White Sox/Astros, the official world series thread

Ryan, I'm not trying to steal your thread here but I figured it kinda got buried on a back page so I'd do this one for the series. My pick: White Sox in 7. Both Teams have outstanding pitching, but I whink the Sox have just a bit of an edge. The closer is no contest, Brad Lidge all the way. And I'm not sure why all these sports geniuses are making light of the Astros lineup. HELLO, Lance Berkman anyone? he's just as good a power hitter as Konerko as far as I'm concerned. I'm just sooooo excited about these pitching matchups. Gimme a good tight 2-1 pitching duel anyday. I'm so damn tired of all these roid freaks and their home runs and 10-9 games.

estranged4life 10-20-2005 08:55 PM

I've noticed...

that national sports news outlets are giving the Astros no chance of winning this series...Interesting, I remember 2 of the best series in recent memory were ones won by teams that entered as the complete underdogs:

1991-Twins (Choking the Braves)
1996-Yankees (Again, Choking the Braves)

I want to see 15-2 & 13-0 type scores with 4 straight wins by the Astros.

xxxmx 10-20-2005 08:59 PM

i am a sox fan of the RED persuasion. good luck to whoever blah. my season is over... can't wait for spring training :wavey:

GO ASTROS!!!!!!!:] :blob2:

The White Sox to win in five. I loathe the Astros.

Me too. I love great pitching, which has been sorely missed for the last decade or so because of the steroid situation. Both of these teams have fantastic pitching. I'll go with the White Sox to win. I really don't want Houston to win because they just barely edged out the Phillies to get the wild card. I also think it's great to see a World Series without the Yankess or the Red Sox for once.

GODDESS6 10-21-2005 06:07 AM

go stros, since they have roger clemens & i met him when he played for the red sox (my team by the way)~ i can't route for the so called "good guys", i loathe the white sox~

Dont forget the '87 Twins too. They were only 85-77, and they beat the Cardinals that year. Dont get me started on Whitey Herzog either. All he did during that entire series is disrespect the Twins and how they didnt belong there with that record and our ballpark was a joke, we wouldve won if we had Jack Clark BLAH BLAH BLAH. You know WHitey, there's a line from A Few Good Men that Jack Nicholson said called "YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!" I find it to be very appropriate in your case. Either get the job done and prove your better or SHUT UP!!

Cardinal ass kicking I enjoyed more, The 87 Twins or the 85 Royals...Whitey got shut up twice within 2 years.

I would just like to post pictures of dreamy Astros catcher Brad Ausmus.

White Sox in 6. I just don't think the stros will pull if off this year. I'm truthfully amazed they even made the playoffs. After last year, I thought they would lose so much of the team they would have a chance. They'll make 6 games, but the Monster offense that is Chicago will push them over the edge.

Yeah, but Don Denkinger stole it from the Cardinals in the 9th inning of game 6 though. Still dont feel sorry for him, but he had a gripe there.

It's cool David, the WS needs its own thread.

I'm rooting for the Astros. Mainly because of Andy & The Rocket. Gotta root for my Yankees somehow. ;)

Yeah, there should be some good ones. I predict a Gm 1 Astros win. Roger seems pretty amped. Plus, I'm not a fan of Contreras at all. Never have been, never will be. I like Garland a lot tho. That's why Game 3 will determine this series. Garland vs. Pettitte. Should be a GREAT series. :D

GypsySorcerer 10-22-2005 04:17 PM

It's awful. I think I despise both teams equally. And I'm not much of Roger "Headhunter" Clemens fan, to be honest.

Hey Ryan, I'd be curious as to what Piazza did in the series in 2000 after Clemens went after him. I'm betting it wasnt too good.

Actually, good ole Mike went 1 for 4 that night. :p The one was a moon shot off of Jeff Nelson in the 9th.

You know, the series looks like the Yankees pretty much kicked ass, but I think that series was closer thatn people think, especially the first 2 games. I was in hell that year as a Boston fan, who do I root for?!?!?!

Plz. The Mets were overmatched in that series. Just because they won one game, doesn't mean they did any better than the poor Braves in 99 or Padres in 98. ;) :p

GypsySorcerer 10-22-2005 04:39 PM

Where's Kimberly and Becky? This talk of the Yankees, Mets, and Bo Sox is ruining my appetite. ;)

Well, youre right, but they were more competetive thatn the Padres were for sure. BTW, nice picture of u on the other thread. Are you italian? just curious.

Plz. The Padres were a joke. We shouldn't have even had to play a WS that year. They could've said, "Well, this is the best baseball team ever assembled, so here's your trophy and rings" and left it at that. Spared us the time. ;)

Annnnnnnnd....No, I'm not italian. Why does everyone think that?

irishgrl 10-25-2005 10:05 PM

Well, I may be the only one, but Im GLAD they're winning.

DavidMn 10-26-2005 04:54 PM

What a game last night. It's really going to be a shame if the White Sox win tonight in the sense that a sweep wouldnt do justice to how competetive this series has been.

wondergirl9847 10-26-2005 05:03 PM

Sheebus, baseball is boring!

Watching a little last night, I was reminded why I love football...it's over within a reasonable amount of time, AND.....it's exciting! I've even lost my voice screaming at the TV!! LOL Go Cowboys!!!!!!!

If the Astros (and I'm from Texas) are gonna be p*ssies about the roof...they deserve to lose. Go White Sox.

StevieNicksEO17 10-26-2005 05:50 PM

Alright, so I'm from Chicago so I pretty much have to love the White Sox. People here are going nuts... It's been a few days since I've gotten anything back from my teachers because they've always been watching the game. I swear, it's like the world stops!

I was never a baseball fan, but it's so nice my team is doing well!

Watch, I just jinxed them... :o
