lindsey's best lyric.
just a thought... what is your opinion on his best ever line, or phrase in a song.
for me its memories like shadows scorched in the sand I'm alone, a lonely man. easily the most, thought provoking line and emotive line he has ever written. whats it for you. |
Just a time within a time...
Just a scheme within a scheme... A little world within a world... It's a dream, just a dream. From the first time i heard them, those words affected me. Seems such a sweet, melancholy way for him to remember the whole 'life in a Fleetwood Mac bubble' experience. -Lis |
I don't think I could pick a best but I really, really love "Melodies awaken sorrows from their sleep."
|
All alone, we suffer....Oh, to steal your heart away.
|
"Time recedes with a fatal drop / Dusty fury on the mountaintop" - so evocative!
|
Whisper murder in your ear/you just keep it so well hid
or I keep the dream in my pocket/never let it fade away And all of "Peacekeeper." |
All of Peacekeeper and Say Goodbye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also think Miranda is awefully clever!!!!! |

Dang, there are TOOOOO many
"when the darkness comes, you've got to fly into the light...."
"I never change, I never will, I'm so afraid, the way I feel..." "You don't belong here, I guess you never did..." Arg...if I had to go with one....it would be.... "when the darkness comes, you've got to fly into the light..." - I adore that song and use those lyrics in my signature at other boards quite a bit. |

Oh I like his songs and stuff, just not as much as the other periods. Even my least fav. LB period is better than any non FM member's prime  |
It's so hard to find your way
When the liars come around Still it happens everyday So don't let it get you down |

My heart was broken
My part was spoken Now the ground has opened All around me The whole song, really. Nice words. |
"silence of stone...a memory of shame...fly away home....surrender the rain"
|
Tarantula passes by your window
No one takes it as a sign No one cares which way the wind blows Someone’s got to change your mind Every bone has been broken Rumours of awful scenes Every word, every language has been spoken Someone’s got to set you free and this bridge: Is it just a separate voice? Did you hear what they said? Is it only that you’re lonely? Did you save him everyday? Is your lie justified? Kick your holes through your door Did you die with him right on the floor, floor, floor OFCOURSE including the folowing KILLER-riff.....that's part of the lyric for me... |

That's my favorite line from my favorite Lindsey solo song ever. Ooooooo- goosebumps!!!! |

Too many. "Peacekeeper" was a new high for him, though.
You know all of our friends are gods And they all tell us how to paint our face But there's only one brush we need It's the one that never leaves a trace When the candles burn down, worlds turn to stone That's why you've got to fly, fly away home We never took quite enough chances We never had quite enough time I did about a thousand dances But nothing would change your mind Saw you face yesterday, thinking on the days of old And the price that we paid, for a love we couldn't hold Don't know why I have to go Don't know why I can't stay Guess I want to be alone And I guess I need to be amazed Save me a place I'll come running if you love me today And my favorite: My heart was broken My part was spoken Now the ground has opened All around me |

The dreams of a lifetime
Told me wrong Everything is all right And now it's gone Guess I want to be alone And I guess I need to be amazed Everything you do has been done And this won't last forever They told me that I never would recover Still some say they knew me well You can hurt, you can heal, you can reach for the light You could trust in yourself if you’d give it a try Turn it on Slightly episodic Always on the run Ever so neurotic Still we have our fun Do you ever wonder Do you ever hate Six feet under Someone who can wait If that's all that there is Oh steal your heart away Here comes the nightime looking for a little more Waiting on the right time somebody outside the door. Well, the curtain falls too early, so they say Some will go, others just stay and stay So have a round on me, my friends Buttercup days are through You know I'll always love 'em But I think it's time that we flew And the lips you were kissing Night after night All were bathed in blue All bathed in white Half-closed eyes and unconscious death Do you feel the ooze as your brain drains out From the pneumatic drills and sharpened knives? Blood in the sky, are you dead or alive? The lights shine down the marina All across her safety zone But loneliness follows Miranda And Miranda is always alone Make me a mask So I can last 'Til the right time comes A tear in my eye To light I fly An end is beginning It's so hard to find your way When the liars come around Still it happens everyday So don't let it get you down Now I best be on my way Before the night turns blue Once you said goodbye to me, yeah And now I say goodbye to you It doesn't matter who we thought we were We ain't got time for it now I swear, I swear, I swear It's not too late Wait for the light that might light our way Wait for the right twist of fate Or at any rate these are the ones that mean the most to me (other than what's been said) Funny, but so many of these seem so simple just typed out on the screen, but I guess it's his delivery, they still convey so much to me... |
After the music ended
There was nowhere to go but down Faces of glass all stuck in the past They only came here to drown Don't blame me Please be strong I know I'm not wrong You don't know what it means to win All the restless people and the bitter green Well it takes the gold, makes the spirit mean |
I really, really love the entire lyric to Red Rover. I think the words are amazing. Quite like the song, actually.

I'm So Afraid
Days when the rain and the sun are gone Black as night Agony's torn at my heart too long So afraid Slip and I fall and I die Say Goodbye I let you slip away There was nothing I could do That was so long ago Still I often think of you Both so sad. I'm a sucker for the heart-wrenchers. |
I love the lyrics to Loving Cup. So absolutely dirty.
I Know I'm Not Wrong. The lyrics on that are so about Stevie and I love them. Street of Dreams is my favorite because I can totally identify with what he is saying. |
"Spread your broken wings and learn how to fly. Take the diamonds from the son, wipe the tears from your eyes."
and "Now someone is dead and gone. The hurt that you feel makes you strong. Time is allowed. Make him proud. Just go out and turn it on." |
Quote:
Blackbird singing in the dead of night Take these broken wings and learn to fly... |
I love Lindsey primarily for his music, but I often find some of his lyrics lack a certain delivery. There are only a few that really affect me and the chief among them is this:
Quote:
|
"If I had known this was only a dream I would have waken from this sleep"
"I used to be somebody but that was so long ago, look around but you won't see me, just a picture of what I used to be" "One thing I think you should know I ain't gonna miss you when you go" "Buy another fixture tell another lie paint another picture see who's surprised" "They told me that I never would recover, still some say they knew me well" "Once upon a time I was strong and proud everything that the law would allow but more and more I feel less and less" "Melodies awaken sorrows from their sleep" "I'm a bundle of joy a pocketful of tears, got enough of both to last all the years" "You are the object of my desire, open your mouth put out the fire" "I keep the dream in my pocket, never let it fade away, inside, outside no loneliness in this dream" "A little too erotic, how do we get things done?" "Living in exile ain't the way to go, it's just another way of dying" "I've got to stop this obsesssion of revenge and fear, I've been running from everything that I once held dear, and it feels so cold, it feels like sin, I've got to stop this obsession and start living again" (Hillary :p ) "Everyone pays a price for these dreams so why not dream these dreams together?" "I'm a little lost let me find my way, I'm a little dead let me live, Been living in the past let me rise today, led a selfish life let me give" And every word of "Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind" |

alot of my faves too! But this one is one of my dearest. |
"woven mystery, fills up this womb...no little children"
"come along, lay down and talk to me...tell me all your fear will allow, it doesn't matter who we thought we were, we ain't got time for it now" These lyrics, well the entire song, are some of my most favorite from Lindsey. They really show his growth and maturity as a man, no longer asking only for physical intimacy but yearning for emotional intimacy, as well. HUGE change for Linds. The words and title are clever, as Lindsey's often are, multi layered and complicated. TWIST of Fate equals nod to Twisted...besides that the lyrics just scream Stevie. "you were living under the reign of kings, living under the gun, I know that made you do alot of things you wish you'd never done". (sort of reminds me of her conversation with Petty where he told her that "no one is mad at you anymore..just reinvent yourself as an artist". "Peacekeeper, take your time, wait for the dark of night, soon all of our suns will rise ...don't be afraid to fight, love is the sweet surprise". (another reference to the woman's fears) "I said I was gonna put God away, he's been here awhile, livin in the guest room, I guess he goes in style" and "think of me sweet darling, everytime you don't come". The arrogance is somehow charming to me. I do find the song almost humorous and I think the fact that Ann Heche suddenly decided she was a lesbian after she broke up with Linds gave him the PERFECT excuse for this song. No, I do not think he originally wrote it about Ann, although there are a couple songs that I do think are about her. (Miranda most notably) Oh to be a fly on the wall the first time Stevie heard this track. Can you imagine? I would have paid lots of money to observe her reaction. "Think of me sweet darling, everytime you don't come"!!! I can picture her face clearly. I wonder what she said to him? We know she told him that "everyone will think the song is about me" but I predict a bunch more drama over the track. Bwwaaahhhaa. |

well, I'll have to relisten....the second she is easily misinterpreted the first not. |

Although Kelly mentioned a lyric that I forgot "Come along, lay down and talk to me, tell me all your fear will allow, it doesn't matter who we thought we were, we ain't got time for it now" |
