Love

Here's a topic for y'all...

How soon is too soon for someone to say "I love you" in a relationship?

If I heard that in the first month or two of a relationship, I'd go running for the hills. But that's just me. :)

Absolutely.

Gimme 8 months to a year before the LOVE word.

skcin 02-08-2005 08:52 PM

After 4 or 5 months is OK, but better after 6. Hubby thinks a year.

I used to know this guy in HS that used to tell a girl "I love you" right after she agreed to date him. Hope he got out of that habit.

wondergirl9847 02-08-2005 08:54 PM

What is WITH you people!?

You say, I heart you, on the first date, after dinner. After the main course, but before dessert. HELLO!? I watch Blind Date. ;)

strandinthewind 02-08-2005 08:55 PM

I think it varies. I have known I felt that way within about five minutes. Others, it took much much much longer

I do think it is possible to love someone without knowing them, which is what happens with love at first sight, which IMO is diff than a crush or mere infatuation which I have had as well. Then, once you get to know them, the bad can outweigh the good.

GypsySorcerer 02-08-2005 08:56 PM

Personally, I'd say six months minimum. Even if I felt it before then, I wouldn't say it so early in the relationship.

Yep - I say in my 38 years on this planet - that is some VERY good advice!!!!!!!

markolas 02-08-2005 09:07 PM

Hmm...

Well, the context might help (or maybe it doesn't matter). We've been dating for a little over a month, and this was more like a quick "love ya" at the end of a conversation, not a lingering, romantic "I love you." Although, there was a bit of a pause before he said it. It made me wince a little bit, because I know this guy has been developing strong feelings (from his perspective) for me, but has been biting his tongue.

I don't know...he hasn't been clingy, or anything like that. I still feel like I'm getting to know they guy, and deciding how I feel about him (although, I do like him a lot), and he loves me already?

Well, first and foremost - what's not to love about you :xoxo: :xoxo: :xoxo: :xoxo:

Secondly - some people just fall fast - some take more time  I think the important thing is to after say three months or so - make a list of the things you like and the things you do not and go from there. It is actually frightening sometimes when you look at that list

Best of luck to you!!!!!!

If it works out - let me know where to send the blender

BTFLCHLD 02-08-2005 10:52 PM

the only advice i can offer is to NEVER say it too soon and only when you mean it

way too destructive to give so easily only to take it away

amber 02-08-2005 11:06 PM

I think it's okay whenever you want, but my rule is: NOT UNTIL THEY SAY THEY LOVE YOU FIRST!
It's nice that guy loves you, though. And I don't think it's too serious that he said it. And if you don't love him yet, you just don't.

In my opinion, there's no rule on how long to wait until you say "I love you"... it depends on how the relationship is going, and how connected the two of you are (or aren't).

I've heard it from a couple of guys in record time, and I found myself scrambling to figure out a nice way to let them know I wasn't feeling it yet.

However, recently someone said it to me when other people would consider it "way too soon," but from him it was VERY welcome. :xoxo:

So, I think the answer is... it's never too soon when it FEELS right. And you will know when it's right. :)

Doesn't sound like anything to worry about, to be honest. Sounds like it was more of an expression than an exchange of deep feelings. ;) Now, if the person I've currently been seeing for the past two weeks said anything like that, I'd barricade myself in my bedroom and never leave.

Yeah, it's not going to turn into anything past what it is now, they're just a really nice person. With a very dry sense of humor that gets me every time; I love it. Lives upstairs from me, too.

Ooo, lives upstairs, that's nice that "they" do, how convenient! I lived upstairs from by bf before, and I went out with my roomate, too. Definitely convenient. I'm glad your new person is funny. I hope "they" know you don't really like them that much...

He does, it's just good company, nothing more. And if he didn't have a sense of humor, I'd be incredibly uninterested. I've dated serious types before and it felt like I was dying a slow death. Making me laugh is a prerequisite for even conversing with me.

That would be the one. ;) New neighbor, too, just moved in fairly recently. How anyone can move in the middle of winter is a mystery to me, but...

I totally agree with that. For some 2 weeks is right, for some 2 years isn't enough time. Love is sneaky..it's a frame of mind ..it just happens...there is no time frame.

I think if you are in love, you would want to scream it out..there would be no control or time frame. When it happens...it grabs you.
