The little guy (with the big brow) who hated the drugs

Forgive my ignorance on the subject of Jimmy Iovine.
I know he walked out of the RAL sessions.
I know he's interviewed on Behind the Music.
Is he still producing albums these days?
Are he and Stevie in contact these days?
Is there ANY chance he would produce her next album now that she's not falling off stages on drugs or wearing half-moon charms?
Fill me in, please.

- Jake

GardenStateGirlie 08-29-2003 01:46 AM

As far as I know, he still has a unibrow, is still producing and in fact, I believe he was thanked at the VMA's tonight by Eminem. I have a feeling he and Stevie must keep some sort of contact. Didn't she have all of her friends listen to her music and help her decide what should be put on the Enchanted box set? Jimmy is thanked by her on that album so I would think they still speak on occassion.

Johnny Stew 08-29-2003 02:15 AM

One thing about Stevie, is that she still seems to be on good terms with the men she's dated.
Gotta give the woman a lot of credit!

Nowadays, Jimmy Iovine is the head of Interscope Records, and I don't think he does any production work anymore... so I doubt he'd ever come out of "retirement" to produce another album for Stevie.

Too bad... he shouldn't be wasting his time on the likes of "in the right place at the right time" guys like Eminem.

But that's just my opinion. :)

LilyRose 08-29-2003 02:58 AM

I know that Jimmy has done some production work on Eminem records.

He also produced one song for the band Rooney on their debut album. They're an awesome (and HOT!) new rock band. Check them out!

Susie

darklinensuit 08-29-2003 08:18 AM

I know that Rooney is named for the Ferris Buehller character, but I haven't heard them.

I know that Stevie thanked Jimmy, but that doesn't mean that they're in contact. She thanked her producers in the TimeSpace days, too, and I doubt they were in contact then.

Eminem. Yuck. Maybe Jimmy will help him re-do the Bella Donna and Wild Heart albums?

- Jake

DrummerDeanna 08-29-2003 09:11 AM

I still haven't heard Rooney, but a couple of my friends met them up in Albuquerque...I'm curious...especially since the guy from Princess Diaries is in it :D

Anyway....yeah, I remember seeing Jimmy Iovine on Ultimate Albums or something...featuring Eminem..I was like WTF? So I watched....muy interesante!

chiliD 08-29-2003 10:29 AM

Rooney was just on David Letterman's show last night.

Ahh...Jimmy Iovine. John Lennon taught him how to mic a grand piano. (Jimmy worked as assistant recording engineer on Lennon's Walls & Bridges)

DeeGeMe 08-29-2003 10:34 AM

Little Jimmy Iovine has gone on to be a Big Name in the Music Industry, heading up Interscope. His wife, Vicki Iovine has written a series of books called "The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy" "Toddlers", "Motherhood", etc. I think she's a former model. They have several kids.

gypsysara 08-29-2003 11:53 AM

Reminds me I have a great photo of the two of them together... if I could get access to a scanner Ill remember to get this one in the lot.

Ever heard the demo "Jimmy Come On Back"? I have yet to hear a good copy of this.

I hear models love men with unibrows. The unibrows take attention away from the models' lack of body weight. ;)

That demo Jimmy Come Back is awful. Not just in quality, but the song itself.

I always thought that Jimmy came off as possessive towards Stevie. Didn't seem like the easiest guy to be around.

gldstwmn 08-29-2003 06:21 PM

Jimmy Iovine owns Interscope Records along with a few other people. It is my understanding that he is more on the development side of things than producing now. He produced one of my favorite records back in the day, Patti Smith's Easter. He produced Bruce Springsteen. He contributes a lot of time and money to charity. I think one of his pet charities is the Special Olympics. He was also a driving force behind the Very Special Christmas records/cd's that Stevie is on.

Mad4stevie 08-29-2003 11:45 PM

I never understood why Stevie found him so attractive - that unibrow still reminds me of Gonzo from the muppets. Just wax that sucker!!

During interviews for 'Trouble In Shangri-La,' Stevie said that the first couple lines in the title track were written about Lindsey ("I remember him, he was very young... no one spoke like him, he was someone"), but then the rest of the lyrics were about other people and situations.

I've often thought that the lines, "And you, you got in my way... stood between me, and my friends," were about Jimmy, as I've heard that he was indeed very possessive of Stevie, and a bit controling.

I'm sure that behaviour was probably reassuring to Stevie right at first, because, as excited as she was about beginning her solo career, she was also scared to be without the safety net of Lindsey and Fleetwood Mac.
So Jimmy's dominance was probably comforting to her in the beginning.

But Stevie doesn't strike me as someone who can remain under someone's thumb for very long (witness the push/pull nature of her and Lindsey's relationship), so it's no surprise that she eventually started clashing with him.
It probably became a battle of wills (and egos), and I'll bet they fought over things even when one or the other was clearly right.

But... again... it does seem that they're once again on friendly terms (and have been since 1987, when she recorded "Silent Night" for his 'A Very Special Christmas' project), so it seems that they've "let bygones be forgotten."

See, I thought she was talking about her own drug use in those lines, not about a lover.

With the exception of Lindsey I have never understood why Stevie found her men attractive...Joe Walsh?? Well..I guess Don Henley's not horrid...Jimmy is the definite puzzler lol...but we all gotta have different taste I guess :)

Now that is a VERY interesting interpretation... I hadn't thought of it that way, but it's definitely an intriguing possibility! :)

I do not remember reading that she dated Waddy. I thought he was a friend like Tom Petty.

darklinensuit 08-31-2003 01:53 AM

Re: Waddy

If I remember, she wrote in the TimeSpace days that If anyone Falls is about him, he was everything she wanted to be (I guess really thin with a body wave  ), and she had fallen out of one love and into this one.

- Jake

darklinensuit 08-31-2003 01:56 AM

And judging from the signature quote I put in a few days ago, that was probably one interesting relationship.

GardenStateGirlie 08-31-2003 02:09 AM

Perhaps we could make a correlation to the amount of coke snorted and the amount of hideous men dated...lol. I'm sure it was more to do with how they treated her and their personality

darklinensuit 08-31-2003 02:14 AM

She says she hates macho men.
Somebody teach me about "Louis V" handbags.

Yes, but according to VH1, Lindsey Buckingham is Stevie Nicks' MACHO MAN. ;)

Jake, sweetie, you will be taught about Louis V handbags. :D

The Timespace liner notes are vague on whether Stevie had romantic relations with Waddy. They say:

"There was a time when I was falling out of one love and into another, when nothing else seemed to matter except this person. I adored him...he was everything I wanted to be: a real rock and roller ... and a lover of the Stones...small and frail sometimes, but in many ways the strongest person I had ever known. His word was law. I became him ... he became me, and no one dared intrude upon this union. He is no longer with me, but his spirit twin never leaves him. I think sometimes I liked being on stage just to watch him. It was music combined with love, combined with the fact that when Waddy was beside me, I felt completely safe. It is to my great sorrow that we are no longer on stage together, but it is to my great joy that he always seems to be with me, even after all this time."

I guess the love she talks about could be a rmantic one. But I always took it as a fraternal love. But, considering she had affairs with just about every one she ever worked with, it is highly possible she had one with Waddy

This says romantic to me.
And you're right about her being with colleagues. The Stevie Nicks and Friends benefit will eventually be Stevie Nicks and Ex-Lovers if she can get them all on the same stage. (Don & Lindsey playing shoulder-to-shoulder? It could happen.) She seems to have been like an old-time actress, bedding her producers & leading men. (You could be Garbo...)
Of course, now that she is a nun all is forgiven.

No kidding! When I heard Stevie say that life was all about lighting, all I could think was, "I hope she had the lights out when she was with Joe Walsh & Jimmy Iovine & Mick & Waddy (if he was indeed one of her lovers)!

darklinensuit 08-31-2003 11:35 AM

When I posted that Which Ex-Stevie Lover are You poll Waddy was one of the possible results, and I think somebody got it.

- Jake

dissention 08-31-2003 11:38 AM

Ugh. Waddy looks like a night clerk at a roach motel. Ew. But then again, almost all her men fell off the ugly tree and hit *every* branch on the way down. Lindsey was the only looker. Imagine what the kids would look like if she ever hooked up with Prince.

darklinensuit 08-31-2003 11:50 AM

Forget that, imagine how they would sound and dress.

I don't think she meant it like that. I still don't think she was with Waddy.

Maybe in a paralell universe. But then again, maybe our paths are not supposed to cross...

I doubt that book will come out before I die. :(

Survivor 08-31-2003 06:34 PM

Waddy just looks "nasty" to me.

At one time...wasn't there speculation about his involvement with child porn? It may have just been a rumor...and I may be thinking of someone else. If so....my apologies to the WadMan.

gldstwmn 08-31-2003 06:51 PM

Those charges were dismissed.

darklinensuit 08-31-2003 06:58 PM

I never heard anything about that.

And gldstwmn, I think it's best to take Stevie literally at all times to avoid confusion. (Next you'll have us believe she speaks in metaphors!) She said she was falling out of one love and into another, and she means it.
She was on Mick (way up high), fell onto Waddy until they untangled their hair, and in her drug haze, she landed on little Jimmy Icanclimbonavine. (Okay, okay, so I played with the sequencing a little.)

He was arrested after he took his computer in for repair and the technician found child porn on his hard drive. The charges were thrown out because it was revealed that it was hidden in a harmless, legal file that he downloaded. :)
