I cannot believe Todd Rundgren did not get in. Very happy for Janet even though she isn't really rock.
This is the pinnacle of Stevie's career. The cherry on the sundae.

Stevie talks about being inducted -
“I have a lot to say about this,” Nicks says in a statement, “but I will save those words for later. For now I will just say, I have been in a band since 1968. To be recognized for my solo work makes me take a deep breath and smile. It’s a glorious feeling.” - Stevie Nicks to Rolling Stone Magazine

I'm very happy for Stevie but disappointed that Todd Rundgren didn't make it - hopefully next year for Todd.
I'm also glad to see The Cure get inducted - their album "Disintregation" played in my head for months when it came out. I may have to pull it out and listen to it.
But for now, it's Stevie Nicks solo on my playlist this morning!
Congratulations Ms. Nicks!

Rock Hall makes Stevie Nicks first woman to be inducted twice
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Tina Turner. Diana Ross. Janis Joplin. Grace Slick. Joan Jett.
Stevie Nicks has accomplished something none of those other female music icons have done. That’s earn Induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice.
Nicks joins the Rock Hall’s Class of 2019, which also includes Radiohead, Janet Jackson, Def Leppard, The Cure, The Zombies and Roxy Music. In doing so, Nicks becomes the first woman to be honored separately with her band (Fleetwood Mac) and as a solo artist.
Perhaps surprisingly, 22 men have been inducted twice, 14 of them with their respective bands and as a solo acts. Eric Clapton has been inducted three times (solo, Cream and The Yardbirds).
Nicks’ induction has been the fan’s choice all along. She dominated the museum’s new computerized voting system throughout the year and finished second in the annual Fan Vote to Def Leppard.
Yet, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation president Joel Peresman insisted the new voting system, accessible on the museum’s Hall of Fame floor, had nothing to do with Nicks earning a nomination in October.
“The new in-museum voting system does not factor into the nomination process as the members of the nominating committee aren’t made aware of that,” Peresman told cleveland.com. “And we rely on their independent thinking, which in this case happened to match up.”

Maybe if she goes on to long, Mick and Christine will be summoned to enter the stage doing their mockery waltz.
(Instructions for stage managers: leave a dollar bill at the opposite side of the stage for Mick. No need for enticements for Christine; she will follow him helplessly.)
But, "congratulations" are in order. So, here it is:
Congratulations, Irving.

Give her some real props for being extremely smart. She crafted her career. It takes more than talent to make a career and Stevie is brilliant. She has networked, and got in good with the youth and even the alternative crowd. Hence, she is in the Hall of Fame twice and Lindsey is crafting his songs in obscurity.

I agree; she deserves this. She was a knockout beauty and fame is her middle name.
She can't play an instrument, but so be it.
(New thread idea for cbBen: Have there ever been any other solo RHOOF inductees who can't play an instrument?)
I just hope that for all the people that got her there (the ones who play her instruments, write her songs, sing with her, produce her albums), she spends her 50 minute commencement speech talking about them and not herself. #unlikely

I hear ya. In addition to witnessing the 2018 FM nonsense, I also saw Stevie's solo show in early 2017 for the first time ever... and, sorry to say, she was a colossal bore. I've never seen a singer talk as much as she did between songs. And, unlike some chatty artists, her stories just weren't that interesting. So that was kinda the beginning of my falling off the Stevie bandwagon. I'm still happy she got in, though, mostly cuz I'll always love the work of the Rumours Five. This may be strictly for her solo work, but any light shone on Stevie also shines on The Mac, so...

Stevie Nicks will be first woman to be inducted twice to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
By Glenn Gamboa
[email protected]
Stand back! Stevie Nicks will become the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, as the Fleetwood Mac frontwoman leads a distinctly ‘80s-dominated class of inductees this year, the museum announced Thursday morning.
Nicks, who launched her solo career in 1981 with her album “Bella Donna” and hits such as “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” enters the Rock Hall after her first time on the ballot, along with ‘80s rockers Def Leppard and New Romantic inspirations Roxy Music. Hitmaker Janet Jackson, who ruled the ‘80s charts with a string of hits, and new wave pioneers The Cure are also on the list, along with ‘90s alt-rockers Radiohead and The Zombies, who arrived in the British Invasion.
Manhasset’s LL Cool J, who was nominated for Rock Hall induction for a fifth time this year, did not make the final cut. Neither did Todd Rundgren, who finished third in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Fan Vote behind Def Leppard and Nicks, or singer-songwriter John Prine, currently enjoying a critically acclaimed comeback.
Artists are eligible 25 years after their first significant recording. Fifteen artists were nominated for induction this year and submitted to a group of more than 1,000 inductees and music industry experts, with the top seven vote-getters being chosen for induction.
The induction ceremony will take place on March 29 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. Ticketing information will be released in January. HBO will air an edited version of the ceremony in the spring and SiriusXM Radio will broadcast the event.
Nicks joins the Rock Hall’s most elite group, as the 23rd artist who has been inducted more than once. Freeport native Lou Reed, as well as Michael Jackson and all four members of The Beatles are also in that group. Only Eric Clapton, inducted as part of The Yardbirds, Cream and as a solo artist, has been inducted three times.
“I just want you to know that we all do appreciate this,” Nicks said when Fleetwood Mac was inducted in 1998. “This is an incredible honor and we are all just as nervous as we were 25 years ago.”

So happy for her, and for her fans. This is vindication for those long years in the late 1980s/early 1990s when she was considered a kind of silly has-been (at least by the male rock establishment).

Stevie Nicks Finally Made It to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Her Own
Fleetwood Mac is back on tour, with four of the original members united again after their reunion tour in 2015. But today, the news belongs to Stevie Nicks alone. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame announced Thursday morning that Nicks will be a 2019 inductee, along with Janet Jackson, Def Leppard, The Cure, Radiohead, Roxy Music, and the Zombies.
Nicks, 70, has been in the music business for more than 50 years, and Fleetwood Mac, the band that was basically one big breakup, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1998. 1977’s Rumours is arguably their biggest album, but that was also the year that they imploded. During the recording process, every single band member had broken up with their significant others—all members of Fleetwood Mac.
Moving on from the band’s topsy-turvy history, Nicks forged a solo career on the strength of her album Bella Donna and hits like “Edge of Seventeen” and “Leather and Lace,” with plenty of Grammy nods along the way. She has also made witchy, dark looks with shawls galore a status symbol of their own. The Hall of Fame noted her fashion influence in its write-up, calling her “rock and roll’s mystic poet.” They continued, “The unmistakable vocal timbre of Stevie Nicks’s voice has dominated rock. Nicks brought velvet and chiffon into the leather-and-denim world of rock, infusing sounds she admired from the acid rockers and Laurel Canyon singer-songwriters with a hint of black magic.”

This is wonderful, I can't wait to know who's gonna perform and which songs are being performed at the ceremony. I think that probably if he hadn't passed away Tom would have been the one to present her induction or at least would have given a performance for the occasion, but unfortunately that's not possible anymore.

And if she hadn’t worked crap jobs so he could stay home, smoke weed, and hone his lead skills, he wouldn’t have gotten good enough to get Mick’s attention. Furthermore, she had to convince him to join.
No, Lindsey didn’t have a hand in her solo success. Again, while he tinkered with his studio toys, she was on the road doing the heavy lifting.

I don't know about every inductee either, but I just got the feeling that even most of the artists who "just singed" would usually also have a competency in a musical instrument (of more complexity than a tambo).

I am genuinely surprised that Stevie is the first woman in twice, TBH. It’s well earned, but I thought it would have been Tina Turner, who’s in as part of Ike & Tina Turner, but not as a solo artist.
Should Tina Turner really be inducted as a solo artist? She doesn't play an instrument... :]
Congratulations Stevie! You deseve this!
This is going to be a really good HOF show. I'm excited to see all the inductees next year.

Great! It's "simply the best", isn't it?
PS.. From what I gather (and I'm hardly a mega fan or anything), Tina these days has divorced the USA and is pretty much entirely devoted to the Japanese cult Soka (think Japan's version of Scientology, but appropriating Buddhism instead of science fiction). Her "Ommm" tracks on YouTube are good background music for studying/work.

Yeah, Soka has an international base in Switzerland, so around those parts.
Anyway, I'll give credit to Stevie for being consistent throughout her life to one country (the US of A) and one cult--that of her own fame!*

I just heard it on the radio a lot at work and credited it to seger. Have you guys ever heard the story that Rundgren's We Gotta Get You a Woman was written about Paul Fishkin (https://www.songfacts.com/facts/todd-rundgren/we-gotta-get-you-a-woman)?
The inspiration for this song's lyric is a music executive named Paul Fishkin, who managed Rundgren's pre-Nazz group Woody's Truck Stop and worked at the Bearsville label with him. He and Rundgren became good friends, and they spent much of the summer of 1969 enjoying everything Manhattan had to offer. Fishkin didn't have much luck with the ladies, which is what Rundgren wrote the song about.
And now both Stevie and Todd are Hall of Fame inductees!
Since Stevie hooked up with Fishkin in 1978, I think Fishkin is the one who asked her to sing at Rundgren's May 23, 1978, show at the Roxy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ae-PQ6uSkbE).
Stevie has won its award by himself and they deserves it!

Unless they extend it over three days this time to accommodate Stevie's acceptance speech.
"CRYSTAL CONFABULATIONS -- The Stevie Nicks Induction Ceremony Gala Mutual Appreciation Talkathon -- Join us until the Edge of Seven A.M. -- Please don't set the Rooms on Fire because all exits will be locked and barred to prevent people escaping during the speech -- Intermission performance of classic waltz by Mick Fleetwood and Christine McVie -- Don't miss it or smirk, or you'll get a verbally abusive call from Irv Azoff!"

So, although this year has been bitter with all that has been happening on the Fleetwooc Mac front I must say:
Very happy for Stevie. This IS sweet across the bitter side. I feel it is well deserved because every time I watch Stevie Nicks on a stage I feel spellbound. Stumbled across 'Don't dream it's over' on YouTube and I can't wait to see it live. Especially the moment when Stevie joins the stage on the song.

The bitterness doesn't extend much past the ledge and some niche internet platforms.
I'm ignoring it from now on, as it's pointless.
Even though I don't support the current incarnation of FM, they are selling out arenas, as usual, and 90% of media articles don't seem to be picking sides either.
So many Ledge members have always accused Nicks fans of being so obsessed. But as the past few years has shown on these posts, Buckingham fans are equally obsessed.
Some great info can still be found on these boards, but the hatred and mean spirited posts that keep being recycled at each other here is like grade school level, and not worth to feed into.
I look forward to watching the ceremonies when they are televised.

I've been thinking about Stevie's performance for the RRHOF. She is going to have to bring her "A" game. The show is known for it's great performances.
She should probably do Stop Draggin my heart around, but she needs to go back to those great performances in the 80's. The vocals need punched up and the song speeded up a bit. It's lost it's punch along with Rhiannon over the years.
I'd like to see her perform it with Waddy and Chrissy Hynde since girl power has been front and center this past year. Unfortunately most of her hits were from Bella Donna, but I think Stand Back should also be done, it's a big crowd pleaser. Fall From Grace with Sheryl Crow would be great too and showcase her later work. This is a standout rocker that shows why she should be in the HOF. Again, go back to that wonderful performance she and Sheryl did at an awards show whose name I forget at the moment, but it was on fire! If she want to get dramatic, Beauty and Beast would be great also. Or Love Is. Hopefully she lets her vocals fly. I know they are still in there.

I think she definitely should do Landslide. I’ve been watching the videos from the current FM tour and she consistently sings it beautifully. I know it’s a Fleetwood Mac song and her award is for her solo work but it is on Crystal Visions and she did write it before joining the band. Stand Back and Fall from Grace would both be great songs for her to rock on along with Ghosts are Gone! I saw her do it at The Beacon in NYC and it rocked!

There is a big difference between the fan groups, though. I do not see Stevie fans piling hideous accusations and personal insults at the other members of FM. She is made to be a total monster by some Lindsey fans and no aspect of her life or persona is off limits for some of the most slanderous and shocking accusations and suggestions. I do not see her fans doing that about Lindsey or Chris or Mick or whoever.

I'm a Fleetwood Mac fan and have never made my disinterest or dislike of any of their solo careers a secret. I love the 1975-87; 1997-2018 version of Fleetwood Mac - that music, that combination of those 5 people, that's what suckered me in 30 years ago at the ripe old age of 8. I've expanded my knowledge and interest to some of the pre 1975 stuff as well as the post-1987 output and some of their solo stuff (of which I always found Stevie's to be the most accessible to be honest). I have never been a "Lindsey fan" as is always the accusation to anyone who dares to express their frustration, anger, or disappointment with what went down with the band this past year. It’s not perfect but it’s FAR better then Timespace. I think including Live Edge and Rock and Roll are way better slot fillers then Sometimes it’s a Bitch, Desert Angel and Loves a Hard Game to Play. Plus I think the running order is amazing.
I’d actually say Crystal Visions is the best single disk introduction to either Stevie or Fleetwood Mac. It represents The best of Stevie Nicks both way better then Timespace or that green greatest hits album for Fleetwood Mac.

Ghosts Are Gone would be a fun rocker, but no one will have heard of it.
This is Stevie--she'll insist on doing the "recognition guaranteed" hits for this occasion.
Also I guess she shouldn't/couldn't do Ghosts Are Gone without Dave Stewart.
The thing is, her live versions of EO17 and Stand Back can drag on so long, how could there be time for any more songs than those two, particularly when you add in her long acceptance speech and the speech to introduce her? There are SIX other acts to induct, after all. The most ever.

alot of us forget that she had a few top 10 hits doing duets pre-"Bella Donna", such as Magnet and steel,"( peaked number 8) with Walter Egan, "Whenever I call You Friend," with Kenny loggins (hit number 5) and "Gold," with John Stewart (charted at number 5). However it's very doubtful she would do any of those. "Talk to me" peaked #4 pop and #1 Rock, "If anyone falls," and "I can't wait," both hit the top 16, both top ten Rock charts, and "Rooms on fire," also charted top 16 and #1 Rock. The latter was also her biggest worldwide solo hit. it would be interesting if she did a medley of some of those, reminding people of those other hits. Although "Stand Back," and "Edge of seventeen," are most likely.

I would substitute Outside the Rain with Leather and Lace, especially if Don Henley is there. And even though she loves Stop Dragging My Heart, I don't think she'll perform 2 duets, so Leather and Lace, Stand Back, and Edge of Seventeen seem like good guesses. Plus she wrote all three.

As I recall, when Fleetwood were inducted, they did Say You Love Me and two acoustic songs, correct? I can't imagine Stevie would be asked to do any more than two songs. It's not even supposed to be a "mini-set." It's just a taste.

Yes, they did SYLM, Big Love, and Landslide. I always thought those were odd choices - I mean, the only 'set' they'd played in 20+ years with no Rumours songs. Only one song with the whole band and then two with Lindsey and Stevie. I was always surprised it wasn't more like the Grammy or Brit Awards set with Rhiannon, Don't Stop, and GYOW.
I predict Leather and Lace (with Henley) and Edge....or Stand Back and Edge.

A well deserved honor, but the distinction of being the first woman inducted twice should have gone to Carole King....the fact that she's only in as a non-performer (with Gerry Goffin) is ridiculous! She should have been inducted as a performer on the strength of "Tapestry" alone years ago! I mean, how many people can say they had the number one selling album for a female artist for almost a quarter of a century??
That said, I'm betting Stevie will do "Edge of Seventeen", "Stand Back" and either "Leather & Lace" or "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around", quite possibly with Chrissie Hynde (who may also induct her!).

Chrissie Hynde hates the Hall of Fame. I agree about Carole King. That woman truely is talented. And this is making Stevie’s head get even bigger.
Girl Bye with Carole King. One album wonder as an artist. I'd say that either Tina Turner or Diana Ross would have been more worthy as the twice inducted female.

Hear hear! The bitter hags on this forum do not get to determine whether or not Stevie gets this honour, and she now goes down in history. We hear that she is a fame whore, that the RRHOF is bogus, that Lindsey Buckingham (who?) would not care for winning such a prize, anything to avoid the FACT that she was elected by a large body of peers, over many other candidates , to be the first woman inducted twice.

Now, take your bitter selves somewhere else.
Yeah, Tina Turner or Diane Ross - two women who never really wrote anything or played an instrument are more worthy than Carole King. You don’t know what you are talking about. Tapestry is one of the most important albums ever and she has had others.
P.S. a writing credit on Nutbush City Limits doesn’t make you a writer.
Being pissed is one thing, ranting and screaming vile insults about a band member all over the internet is another.
I haven’t done that. But thanks for generalizing me in with others who you hate.

Couple of things
1. Tina Turner is amazing - definitely a pioneer for women in the business
2. Carole King - I think a lot of people think of her as just the person who made the Tapestry album and forget all of the other huge hits she wrote for others.
Both of these women are amazing and deserve to be in the hall. Tina is already in as part of Ike & Tina, however it is strange she is not in by herself as Stevie will now be.

I know Carole wrote songs for other artists, but that person implied she deserved to be in over Stevie as an "artist". I strongly disagree.
Diane Warren wrote a lot more songs for many artists if we're basing inclusion on that.

I think you’re a wreck. Nobody has said anything that offensive to warrant your over emotional reactions. I was the one who made a video in favor of getting Stevie in the Hall of Fame. However, it amazes many people who doesn’t even get nominated. In Carole King’s case, the fact that you are even arguing this just goes to show you don’t know what you are talking about.

Where is written that someone has to have talent to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Half of them don’t. Janet Jackson is a great dancer, but mediocre singer and now she is in there. Carole King, who wrote and played on her own songs and created one of the most important records in Rock history is only in their as part of a writing team and NOT in their for ground breaking solo career. It’s BS.

On their website: "demonstrating unquestionable musical excellence and talent" https://www.rockhall.com/inductees/induction-process
That said, I think a Hall Of Fame for rock and roll is stupid because music is subjective. It's like what Woody Allen said about his track trophies vs. his Oscars: The track trophies mean he measurably ran the race faster than the others whereas the Oscars are just some people's opinion.

I've been a Stevie Nicks fan for 43 years....anyone who knows me will attest that the four ladies I've been saying need to be inducted into the Hall are Stevie, Carole, Carly Simon and Pat Benatar!
It doesn't have to be one or the other....they can ALL get in....and DESERVE to!
But to say that Carole King is basically a one hit wonder is ridiculous, and shows a SERIOUS lack of knowledge of rock history. Much like Stevie and Pat (and Tina!) dominated the airwaves and turntables of the 80's, Carole and Carly (along with Joni and Linda) ruled the 70's.

I agree about Pat Benatar and perhaps Carly Simon. I just don't see it with Carole King as a performer. She's in as a Non-Performer, and that's good enough. I know "Tapestry" was a huge album, but so what? She didn't have other noteworthy studio albums. I love Tracy Chapman's first album (1988) which was also huge. Should she also get in based on the strength of ONE album? I don't know. Just because I don't agree with you, it doesn't make me clueless.

Nick, she's had one diamond album, two platinum and six gold....those are pretty "noteworthy" numbers!
To say that having her in as just a non-performer and that's good enough is no different than all those folks who said "Oh, Stevie is in as part of Fleetwood Mac, and that's good enough! Aside from "Bella Donna" and one or two other singles, her solo career was spotty at best!" (Something which I TOTALLY disagree with!).
There's more to being inducted than just sales....Carole had a HUGE influence on
both her generation and numerous ones after her.
As far as comparing her to Tracy....there is no comparison. Tracy had one great album and two great singles, but almost zero influence. In fact, if we want to go down that road, it's pretty safe to say Joan Armatrading should get in before Tracy!

Carole King had a bunch of hits and deserves to be in the RHOF for CERTAIN. I mean there's NO argument. https://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/7685241/carole-king-biggest-billboard-hot-100-hits
She had 5 big hits! Please.
1, "It's Too Late"/"I Feel the Earth Move" (No. 1, five weeks, 1971)
2, "Jazzman" (No. 2, 1974)
3, "Nightingale" (No. 9, 1975)
4, "Sweet Seasons" (No. 9, 1972)
5, "One Fine Day" (No. 12, 1980)
AND she's sold 75 MILLION freaking albums. Most successful female songwriter in HISTORY. 118 pop hits.
Also at LEAST 3 albums in the top ten.

The president deservedly awarded Carole the Gershwin in 2013, an award that surely outstrips the increasingly cringeable RARHOF.
That's an award that Stevie would never get for her solo career, even if a Clinton was president.
Edit: And of course Christine was bestowed with the Ivor Novello lifetime achievement award, which is just as awesome and befitting as Carole's Gershwin.

There is no way to lend logic to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Its the reason people cant stand it. IMHO of course someone as talented and commercially successful as Carole King deserve to be included over acts like Janet Jackson or Madonna. IMHO Janet Jackson cant really sing and all of her music is written and directed by other people. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis have always created clever riffs and pop hits. Having said all of that, I believe the album "Janet" from 1993 was one of the best albums of the entire 90's decade.
I hated the hall when the stopped including only rock acts. The name should be changed to the Pop hall of fame. There are so many great rock acts that still have not been inducted. Pat Benatar, Def Leppard, Styx - the list could go on forever. Any of these acts are far more deserving than Janet Jackson who became a pop star because of her brother's fame and a duo who is famous for creating 31 top 20 hits of pop stars.
How Pat Benatar has not been inducted really shows how bogus the entire process is. She is rock, she has multiple platinum albums, huge hits, and was a pioneer in rock history.

So I posted the above after coming home with a little too much holiday cheer from a party I was at. Eggnog with Baileys... yum last night, but not so much this morning. Black coffee, please. I am really happy Stevie was inducted as a solo artist - but it doesn't really matter to me that she's the first female to be inducted twice. I mean..
Tina Turner and Carole King! I had no idea that they weren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for their solo careers - I guess I just assumed they were. I mean the "Private Dancer" and especially "Tapestry" albums alone should have sealed the deal with these ladies. Two of my favorites records of all time. I've seen Tina in concert six times (once when Lindsey opened for her which was cool) and she danced longer and harder than her much younger dancers up on that stage. And I only saw Carole King once with James Taylor and she was so very good. I've seen the musical "Beautiful" twice and it is a remarkable tribute to all the beautiful music she created.
I also can't believe Warren Zevon, the Doobie Brothers, Joe Cocker and Todd Rundgren aren't in the hall. At least Todd was in the discussion this year.

You are showing your age :) Pat Benatar was anything but ordinary. She was dubbed the Queen of Rock in the early 80's. She won multiple Grammy Awards and American Music Awards. While she was huge on rock radio, she had 15 Top 40 hits.
Her song "You better run" was the second video ever played on MTV. MTV made a statement with "Video killed the radio star" but when it was down to business, Pat Benatar got the nod to lead off the channel.
One of the biggest cult classics movies of the 80's was Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Remember the scene in the cafeteria " Oh my god, that girl looks just like Pat Benatar" Response: "There are 4 other girls here who also look just like Pat Benatar"
She was a trail blazer. Unreal, her 1980 Crimes of Passion album hit #2 right behind John Lennon. Unheard of from a solo female rock artist at that time. John Lennon was just killed and no one was going to replace Double Vision at the #1 spot.
Ironically that album was produced by Keith Olsen. As a Stevie fan in the 80s it was very frustrating watching music awards shows seeing Pat beat out Stevie year after year. IMHO, Pat should have been inducted first round, first year
Big difference here. Madonna's image is what made her a star. Pat's music is what made her a star. Unlike Madonna, they copied her style because of her artistry. Madonna was simple shock value, rolling around on stage in a wedding dress, etc. No comparison at all. Madonna does not perform a majority of her music from her early years (she is not proud of it and its cheezy, those are her take, not mine). Pat could perform every song she has written and sung and they are not dated, or silly. Many of Madonna's biggest hits, she would never do in concert. That tells you something about the music.
I have always loved Pat Benatar and agree 100% that she should have been in there already. Growing up I felt that Pat and Stevie were the most popular female rockers, at least on the rock radio stations we listened to in New York.
With Joan Jett, Chrissie Hynde, Heart and now Stevie being in, I hope Pat gets in there eventually. The only annoying thing about her now is that she’s putting Neil Geraldo’s name out there. You are not Hall & Oates! She will always be a solo artist to me. Neil must be starving for attention.

Kate Bush (in case you're not being sarcastic and US. centric )..her career predates Pat's and Stevie's solo career though she is younger than both .She has basically just had a cult following in the US. but is an institution in her native Britain where she recently had something like 8 of her albums in the UK top 50. She is very influential .There would likely be no Bjork or Tori Amos if not for Kate. She writes all of her material, plays multiple instruments and has produced many of her own album some of which like 1985's Hounds of Love and the more recent Aerial are masterpieces .If we are going to qualify someone for the Hall of Fame on pure artistry and influence she would be hard to beat not only by most women but also men. She should have gotten in as soon as she was eligible which would have been 2003.

Kate is a true artist and IMO belongs in any gallery of the all time greats. Her creativity and innovativeness are what Stevie could have been despite her lack of technical musical talent. Stevie had the songwriting talent and the voice, if only she had had a producer like Kate or had hung around with her instead of Tom Petty....

For me, Stevie’s live shows are more of an extension of her albums then almost any performer. That’s truly the core to her artistry as far as I’m concerned. In fact I’d say where she takes songs live is way more unique to Stevie then any particular album or songs. Street Angel May be subpar but the House of Blues 94 album is probably my favorite live album of one show by anyone including Fleetwood Mac’s rumours reissues. I’m sure live performances are a consideration of the hall. And who knows, maybe some of the voters on the hall have heard her extensive unlreleased catalog too.
But she does still have 2 multi platinum albums and I feel the Wild Heart is far better then Bella Donna. Where are all the lefties who feel that way? There use to be a bunch, now it’s all “she had 1 great album.” And I happen to think that 1
Great album sucks or at least could’ve been way better. And The Bella Donna Tour was probably her weakest outside of 1989-1991 and 2001-2010.

Actually after re reading what I just wrote, that may explain why Stevie hammered home the point hard on every 24KG that she had 2 hugely successful albums. I used to scoff at the 2 million but im shocked by how many famous albums by other artists sold less then that. Multiplatinum to any degree is impressive.
And Stevie reminded audiences of that every night. She’s been campaigning for this for sure.

TimeSpace was very close to being multi-Platinum. I think Crystal Visions may have ruined that.
Benatar's cover is terrible. Kate is a bit hard to swallow for middle America or she would have been huge here.. Nonetheless by artistic merit alone she deserves to be in.
You need to get schooled. Kate did not deserve to get in before Stevie and guess what? SHE DIDN'T! LOL.
Also, Pat's version of "Wuthering Heights" sh*ts on Kate's. I like some Kate songs but her helium voice can get tiring. I know Stevie has a distinctive voice that some people dislike too, but remember this is her forum and we should show respect here. All of a sudden this place is becoming a showcase for all the forgotten females like Carole and Kate who did NOT get in. Better luck next year ladies.
Stevie is in twice. Love it or hate it, but it's a fact.

I am schooled. Pat has been a 'has been " for decades. She hit the state fair circuit near the dawn of the 90s and it has been downhill since then..Her shrill version of Wuthering Heights is souless and dreadful. Kate is beloved in the UK and Europe and her recent tour there broke records and made millions. Pat could not get a job singing in a kennel there now. She has not even been nominated either. As for Stevie props to her for getting in twice but it a bit difficult to respect someone whose behavior has been so disrespectful of Fleetwood Mac's legacy as of late.

I hear you, but Kate is a “never was” here in the USA. I also don’t care to hear for the hundredth time about poor Lindsey being removed from Fleetwood Mac. He was a b*tch and got his punishment.

Kate Bush is so reclusive she would never turn up for the induction ceremony and it doesn't even sound like the kind of accolade befitting her body of work and persona.
I wouldn't mind seeing a dance-off between Stevie and Kate though. :D

He's no more of a B&tch than Stevie or Mick for that matter. Punishment? Please What happened to him at Mick and Stevie's hands is complete BS. I mean this is the guy that Stevie dragged to rehab with her? So legend tells us anyway. Please. Mick is actually the biggest B*tch of all, and he will figure out a way to make Stevie's induction about him/FM in some way. It will be really tough for him to do without incorporating Lindsey into the narrative. Mick is a charlatan. Truly supreme dirtbag.
The RRHOF is decidedly American. If you are a band/singer that hasn't resonated on US soil, the RRHOF is going to be a tough load to carry over the goal line. I would think Carole and Tina and even Pat see it long before Kate ever will. . I am not saying it's right--it's just the politics of it, IMO.
Stevie 110% deserves this induction, and I sincerely mean it. As far as scruples, these people (all of them) have none! None! I completely disagree and am appalled by how she/Mick handled the LB situation, but I am mature enough to recognize her achievement here.

I am very aware of that. Stevie and all things Fleetwood Mac were in the hopper by the mid 90s .Even a superb album like Out of the Cradle flopped then. Pat did not have a Fleetwood Mac level band to engineer a comeback .She consequently she has been in the state fair/casino/oldies tour package circuit for decades now.

Pat Benatar definitely was a trailblazer. She burst onto the scene with her debut platinum album in 1979 and followed that up with many more platinum albums. She was one of the only artists female or male that could get a top 10 album and pack arenas without even having a top 10 single as she's only had four top 10 singles, her songs were basically played majorly by rock radio. She opened the doors for many many rock and roll females. To say that Pat benatar wasn't groundbreaking, is just naive. She was pure arena Rock! She definitely needs to be inducted. Along with Stevie, Pat was one the biggest female Rock stars of the 80's. As for Kate Bush, she was hugely popular in Europe and critically acclaimed in the United States, but her sales impact here was so minimal I don't think Kate Bush belongs in the Hall of Fame.

I like this optimism. I agree, all have worthy resumes.
Just thoughts... I feel that as an American, Kate Bush is one of the greatest "unknown" behemoths in music.
She's hugely successful around the globe except America... and perhaps equally as importantly, hugely influential and trail blazing for many acts who followed (and still today). What a weirdo risk taker (I mean that 100% positively). I don't love all of her work, but I do love much of it, and respect ALL of it.
She's not for everyone of course, we all have differing tastes, but that doesn't negate the value of her work. Such an important place in the history of alt rock and women in music.

You used the correct word "trailblazer." Pat Benatar has achieved things no other rock female has done. During the peak of her career, she recorded a live album during her sold out world "Get Nervous" tour (1982). The live album went platinum and charted #13 on Billboard. I don't believe any female artist, let alone female rock artist ever recorded a live album let alone have that great success with a live album. Also, the tour was so successful that it was recorded for a HBO special and later released on VHS. Just a few months later, she would win a Grammy for best female rock artist.
People get their feelings hurt and bring their personal preferences into who should get into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. I never owned any Benatar music until about 20 years ago, I bought a "best of" CD. In the early/mid 80s, I despised her. I felt her success prevented Stevie from getting recognized at music award shows. As a teen, I had a shrine to Fleetwood Mac and Stevie on my bedroom wall. I would take clippings from Hit Parade magazine that claimed Pat "The Queen of Rock" and post those words over a Stevie Nicks photo. She ruled the female rock/pop charts for half a decade. She is someone who I would think would have gotten in within the first year or two.
There should be a standard to get in. Just because someone is your personal favorite is not enough. They should have to be a trailblazer, successful in touring or music, and even a crossover of different kinds of music. Benatar is every one of those things. Benatar has 4 Grammys for best female rock performance. Over her career, she was nominated 8 times, winning half the time.
Its true that Pat does not have the loyal fan base as Stevie or other artists. But that has no bearing on her achievements. I remember when I lived in West Palm Beach in 1998. Stevie was touring with Enchanted and still in the limelight of The Dance. After dismal showings at Street Angel, Stevie was once again filling arenas and concert halls. Pat was touring too and she was announced at some local club. I was shocked. The show got cancelled too. I was not attending the concert but was so surprised she would play such a small venue.

I saw her there that year, too. I remember reading an article about how/why bigger name acts had been playing state fairs, and it specifically mentioned Stevie Nicks playing at the Ohio State fair. It said that she was paid a huge amount, and one of the reasons she did it was because it was a guaranteed fee, rather than based on attendance, so she would have been paid the same whether there were 2,000 people there or 10,000 people there. The Celeste Center holds just over 10,000, and her concert was a sellout. For that same tour, I think she also played in Ohio at Cincinnati Riverbend amphitheater. I think the Ohio State fair was the only fair she played in, at least that year.

Wow, you must have been really young
There was a leg of that tour that was never officially announced but was on the edge of being announced. New small theater in West Palm Beach was going to be played 2 nights. It was in the paper and on the radio. But after the first leg, Stevie got depressed. The album was not selling, attendance was not great, and people were fat shaming her. probably because she didn't work it as hard as Stevie did. Like it or not, one of Stevie's greatest talents has been networking inside the industry and working her image. She worked to create a visual image so that people who don't know her music well still know her visual image-- the capes, the top hat, the sexy necklines (in the earlier days), the tambourine etc. She herself identifies with this stage image so much it is the logo of her personal stationery. Her tumultuous personal life has made her a regular in the pop culture/gossip columns-- the breakups within FM, drug use, her high profile romances, etc etc etc. Now the 90s saw how much her physical appearance played a role in her career-- when she got heavy a lot of the casual fan base turned on her, and many of the pop pundits. She knew it. And she worked to get back.
Pat went off the radar for a while having a family and all that. She doesn't seem to have the singular or narcissistic drive that Stevie does. Pat seems to pander to her husband's ego by giving him co-billing and that sort of thing, and that has probably hurt her career too.
So there's a hella lot more that goes into success than just talent. One of Stevie's talents has been keeping herself in the news. Important.

I was younger and more innocent
I read a review in one of the local Columbus papers at the time, I think the Guardian, and the critic did nothing but fat shame her. It was not cool, I mean he acknowledged she sounded good and put on a good show, but called her names like 'thunder thighs.' The concert was a sellout, but one of the few sellouts that tour, as you said, neither the album or tour performed to expectations. I 100% agree that if the Dance hadn't happened, Stevie's solo career never would have resurged like it did.
As far as her performance, she did sound really good and her backdrop was pretty cool, too- it looked like they were in an oversized Alice in Wonderland environment. Darden Smith opened for her and the audience was nasty to him, which made me feel badly for him. I don't think the ticket said anything about there being an opening act, so when somebody on stage came out and said something like "Are you ready to see Stevie Nicks?" to roaring applause, he added "Well first, how about a warm welcome to Darden Smith!" And some people literally started booing. At one point he even said "booing me off the stage won't make her come on any earlier." He had one hit, though: Loving Arms. Really good song.

There were a bunch of empty seats. When I was there, we noticed that. If it was a sellout, then a bunch of people didn’t show up. She sang Talk to Me and Rooms and she sounded great. She talked about it being her first fair. I think she sang a little song called At the fair.
The Columbus Dispatch gave her great reviews and they rarely gave out good reviews. But they said she put on a tight rock show and she did. It was the best vocals I heard her do. She was really trying. When she introduced Maybe Love she called it a small song.

I could swear the marquee at the center said the show was sold out... thanks for the correction, if it wasn't. We were very close to the stage, like 5th row, so I couldn't tell exactly how packed it was. In Cincinnati, the newspaper review said Riverbend was only half full, like 6500 or so.
I was pleased she sang Talk to Me, Rooms on Fire, and Has Anyone Ever Written. I was also pleased that she only sang Maybe Love, Blue Denim, and Destiny from Street Angel, as those were some of only a handful of songs from that album I liked.
Jondalar, do you remember Darden Smith, the opening act? If you do, I was curious what you thought of him.

I don’t really remember the opening act that well. Just sort of. What I remember from that concert is her voice sounded great and she sounded so great on Talk to Me, a hard song to sing. I’ve never heard her sing it in concert again. Rooms sounded great to. I was sort of sad because I thought her careers was over.

You can love Pat or hate Pat but false statements about her make no sense. Stevie worked harder than Pat? Oh hell no. While Stevie worked hard, she also played very hard and also was very lucky to get invited into a super group.
Pat did slow down when she had kids but her work ethic was insane. From 1979 to 1985 she released a full studio album EVERY year and toured. Pat also had to deal with things that Stevie never did. Because Pat was a solo artist, good looking, and trained in Opera, no one took her serious.
Stevie had lots of help.

For the record, I think Pat Benatar should be inducted into the HoF. I like her music a lot, although my collection is limited to Wide Awake in Dreamland, one of her 2 CD sets, and her latest live cd/dvd combo. I've owned two of her other albums but found most of the non-singles to be unmemorable and filler. Your point that she released an album every year from 1979-1985 might have hurt her credibility a little bit, possibly. Churning out an album every year is not something I think most people consider as a good reason for someone to be inducted.
I also think you're taking the comment that Stevie worked harder than Pat too literally. Pat has never said seemed to strive for stardom, but Stevie totally has. That quest for stardom is definitely something Stevie has worked harder for than Pat And yes, Stevie totally had an advantage over Pat by being in Fleetwood Mac. Stevie has a high powered manager, too.
Just my 2 cents.

It’s not unfortunate I made this statement. It’s true and has been discussed before. I think the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame isn’t as important to Pat as it is to Stevie. I think she regrets it, but Nicks did sacrifice a family for her career. At least, she really is getting something out of it. Buckingham said that Nicks is on a musical journey and that really does seem to be what about her life’s about. She really did put everything into it.

Actually this is Kristen, Lindsey’s attention starved wife. I’m obsessed with Stevie because I know she was Lindsey’s first and only true love. I won’t let anyone bad mouth her and I know Lindsey was always the troublemaker in the group. Happy Holidays!

You totally missed my point... which was, that Stevie made her career her whole life to the exclusion of most everything else. Pat had a family, Stevie chose not to. Pat had a spouse, whom she promoted, because she didn't want him to feel like he was Mr. Pat Benatar... again, not choices Stevie made. Indeed, Stevie has said many times she did not want to adjust her life for anyone; she wanted to be able to do whatever she wanted whenever she wanted without having to worry about someone else. Stevie made her career her sole focus, and spent hours up nights taking photos of herself and practicing how she wanted to look and on and on and on. That's what I meant by Pat not working at it as hard as Stevie, i.e. she didn't sacrifice her whole life to staying in the news and making sure to be seen with the latest generation of popular singers etc.
(Waiting for the response that this is somehow dissing Pat.)

And also, Pat has a husband and kids. She has had a much more complete life than Stevie, who aborted her baby so it wouldn’t hurt her band.
You know, I admire Stevie for not having children she knew she would not have the time to actually properly raise. The world doesn't need more children of self-absorbed stars who grow up being screwed up and addicted and all that because their awful parents didn't make the choice to raise them right. Would it have been better if she'd been more responsible with birth control if she knew she didn't want kids? In my opinion, yes. But she knew she wouldn't give up her career for them, and end up creating really messed up people. I always recall that scene in the DR doc where they're rehearsing for the tour and LB says he must leave by like 9pm and Stevie says but we could get through the whole set tonight and he says, yeah well I cannot stay past 9, and finally she says then let's get as far as we can by then. It seemed like he had a family commitment or made a promise to his family/wife he'd be home and he was willing to draw the line on FM stuff to get home on time. She would not. So it's likely better for everyone that she didn't have kids that she knew she would not make any sacrifices for. She just could have been more proactive in preventing pregnancies, but there you go.

You are right. I thought about this. She wouldn’t of been a good mother. She is too self centered and career oriented , so I guess she should be applauded for not screwing up another human being. No I did not miss your point. I never said Stevie did not work hard. But your definition of Stevie working hard and examples are almost laughable. Because she stayed up late at night all coked out taking photos of herself in the bathroom? WTF
Each worked really hard. But Stevie definitely had it easier than Pat and that is something even Stevie alludes to her in her RAL interview when the interviewer brings up Pat. Stevie walked right into a successful band. Christine was there and that made it easier for Stevie. Once she became famous, she could pick any successful producer to make her music. Stevie knows she was lucky.
Pat on the other hand had to fight sexism all the way. Record company execs told her that no one was coming to hear her sing. Stevie admitted that no one ever told her that. Stevie was very insulated or as she calls it the "baby sister." Pat had to fight her way. Big difference and no comparison.

I'm only familiar with Benatar's radio and video stuff from the eighties, and none of it appeals to me. It always struck me as emblematic of what everybody used to call "corporate rock." At my high school (1979–1982), Stevie and Benatar were both big, with maybe the popularity edge going to Benatar. By the early eighties, Nicks had a reputation among some kids of being wimpy and bland—a musher. Punk and new wave were popular, after all, and Chrissie Hynde, Benatar, Joan Jett, and Lita Ford probably felt more contemporaneous and real as role models to young women in high school.

Pat was HUGE in my high school years, 78-81, full on rockers that we were!!!! Stevie, not really until a bit later, but Pat was always the "cool rocker chick," and Stevie was the FM solo artist. At that time, if a vote was given, I'm betting that Pat would have won hands down in popularity. We all loved her music, the big stadium rock sound.

You are hung up on a literal interpretation of 'working hard'. And your fixation that I am somehow dissing Pat.
For the last attempt at clarity, I am saying that Stevie has made her career her singular focus, to the point of sacrificing other areas of her life. Pat has chosen to live a more well-rounded life and have a family, etc. Often show business rewards those who take what I would consider the less healthy path of having nothing else in their lives but their careers.

Again, you are misinterpreting things and repeat false statements. This is my last post on this thread. To allege Pat did not make her career a singular focus is so far from reality its silly to even respond to. Yes, well into the mid to late 80's Pat did slow down to have a family. In the mid 90's Stevie disappeared and it had nothing to do with a family. During Pat's early career and to the apex of her career, she put out an album and toured every year.
You are too Stevie obsessed in claiming because Stevie wore capes and took photos of herself that some how puts her ahead in the work ethic department. Nothing could be further from the truth. When Stevie took years off between albums her drug habit took hold and was so far from reality that she could not even finish an album over 2 years time. They had to bring songs to Stevie to sing for the first time in her career. Stevie was more interested in the party than her music. That was never the case for Pat.
You are entitled to your opinion and worship Stevie but to minimalize others and present false statements and your opinions as facts is just wrong. I recognize the work, sacrifice, and contributions Pat made to rock. I never saw her in concert. I never bought any of her music during her mainstream career, and I personally did not like her because she always took the awards I wanted Stevie to get. Having said that, everything I have posted in this thread is not opinion, I stated facts. You just keep stating your opinion which you have every right to do. But when someone presents their opinion as false fact, they need to be corrected. To allege Pat Benatar did not make her career a singular focus is laughable but its also a false statement. Even Stevie slowed down after 1991 and disappeared in the mid 90s. It appears you don't know much about the barriers Pat over came during her early years and into her career. I would suggest maybe watching a Behind the Music or Wikipedia to educate yourself. But I doubt you will do that. Your idol worship wont let you. You keep finding self imposed ways to convince yourself somehow Stevie worked harder. Pat having a family does not diminish her career in the slightest(but you keep repeating that over and over). Stevie's drug addiction did not diminish her career but it sure impacted the quality of music to say the least. Its YOUR OPINION that Pat did not focus fully on her career like Stevie. Thanks for sharing ;) Facts state otherwise.

Not to get too deep into the Pat vs. Stevie debate, since Pat isn’t remotely close to Stevie in terms of cultural significance, but Stevie toured in 90, 91, 94, 97, and 98. Five tours in a decade is pretty respectable. I’ll grant you her output of new material was fairly anemic.
When Stevie took years off between albums her drug habit took hold and was so far from reality that she could not even finish an album over 2 years time.
Stevie was either on tour or in the studio pretty consistently from 1975-95. Even when she slowed down after 1991, she was still active, especially compared to the genius,

________
As a die-hard fan of both Pat and Stevie, that is not entirely true.
Both had their commercial peaks at the same time as solo artists. Both women worked really hard.
In Benatar's case, she was over-worked.
In her Biography, she said that her label, Chrysalis Music, had a very stern contract with her.
Her contract was one new album per year, along with a tour.
she makes it clear that she wasn't very happy with the way the label treated her and worked her so hard.
Her debut album, "In the heat of the night," debuted in 1979.
Followed by "Crimes of passion," 1980.
"Precious Time," 1981.
"Get nervous," 1982.
"Live from earth(A live album featuring the new studio song, "Love is a battlefield)" 1983.
"Tropico," 1984.
All 6 albums reached platinum.
2 went multi platinum("crimes of passion," and "Precious Time").
but "Tropico" was her first album to not make the top ten, even though "We Belong," was a top 10 single.
It also was her first album that didn't have multiple hit songs from it.
By this time, she wanted to change her image, stating this publicly, and wanted to do some more mellow sounding pop songs.
"Tropico," was recorded during her first pregnancy, and the first album in shifting her style of music.
By this time in her career, she detested her own hit song, "Hit me with your best shot," and refused to play it in her newer concerts. It didn't come back to her set list until the 1990's.
Her "Seven the hard way," in 1985 stalled at #26 and only went Gold.
Her contract now allowed more space between albums.
"Wide awake in Dreamland," 1988 stalled at #28 and only reached Gold.
After a 3 year hiatus, she released an all blues album in 1991, "True love."
It stalled at #37 and never reached gold status. In 1993, she released "Gravity's Rainbow," which stalled at #85.
her contract with Chrysalis Music ended.
After a long hiatus, she returned in 1997 with "Innamorata," which peaked at #171.
In 2003, she released her final studio album "GO," which never charted.
According to Nielsen SoundScan, the album had sold approximately 30,000 copies, before it went out of print in 2010.
Benatar has not released a new studio album since 2003.
During her peak, Stevie was just as active as Pat, releasing and touring solo albums, as well as a couple FM albums.
Pat's decline began right after she had her first child. Stevie's "Street Angel" flopped in 1994, but she came back with FM and "The Dance."
Her solo albums continued to hit the top ten as well.
I love Pat Benatar, but I've always felt that her music changed too much after 1985.
I lost interest right around the same time her sales declined. Her change in musical style wasn't what I liked about her.
Pat had a hell of a run though. And I still love her first 5 albums very much.

Umm, this is a misleading post.
Seven The Hard Way was Benatar’s 6th studio album. Rock a Little was only Stevie’s 3rd. Seven went Gold and had two top 40 hits (Sex as a Weapon and Invincible) the same as Rock A Little. While Rock went platinum, it was a critical flop. Stevie’s 4th album, TOSOTM only managed to go gold and her 5th, Street Angel didn’t even do that until after The Dance. After the Dance, The Other Side went Platinum and Street Angel went Gold but it was only because of The Dance.
Stevie only had 2 non-patchy, good albums in the 80s, Bella Donna and The Wild Heart and they are the only ones that went multi platinum and that’s because they were the only ones that were actual good albums.

I consider even The Wild Heart to be patchy (but still good overall).
I'm agnostic on Benatar as I don't know her stuff. All I can say is that Stevie's output from 1973-83 is just astonishing.
Writing goes a long way with me. Benatar may have had to churn out an album a year, but she didn't have to write the songs. Stevie wrote a ton of great songs from 1972-82. That should count for a lot.
I know I'm speaking from a place of ignorance, but I can't imagine any album of Benatar's equaling Buckingham Nicks (yes I know Stevie had a duet partner there, but she wrote all the great songs; and in my view that album should have counted in her Hall Of Fame consideration).
As for Stevie's solo albums after 1983, the only good one so far as I am concerned is Trouble In Shangri-La (probably an apt description of Fleetwood Mac behind the scenes vis-a-vis the image they were trying to project).

The Other Side of the Mirror went top ten and eventually platinum. Pat's final top ten album was 1982's Get Nervous. Talk to Me was a top 5 hit and I Can't Wait hit number 16 ..Sex as a Weapon did not even hit the top 20 and Invincible was an old hit from a film soundtrack that was tacked on the album so not really all that misleading to call Seven the Hard Way a flop.

Yeah, TOSOTM hit #10 and never managed to go Platinum until after The Dance, several years later. It spent most of its time in the buy back bins. It was Stevie’s 4th album. It also benefitted from Tangos huge sales.
It’s not fair of you to compare Seven to Rock A Little. Seven was Pat’s 6th album. Rock A Little was only Stevie’s 3rd and Pat never had The Dance like TISL (Stevie’s 6th) to prop it up. Stevie never even had a hit in her 6th.

All this business about "business," about sales? Is that what the RRHOF induction officially recognizes?
Why aren't the Captain and Tennille in the hall of fame? According to Wikipedia, they had five gold and platinum albums plus a bunch of hit songs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_%26_Tennille#Singles).
Surely some other quality is operative in any decision about who gets inducted?

The two albums were released a couple of weeks apart so why not compare them.? I never even mentioned TISL..maybe you shouldn't post from your bed in the small hours of the morning.
TISL is Stevie’s 6th album.

It's not a fair comparison because, by 2001, the kind of music that was popular had changed markedly from when Pat's 6th album came out.
