Mick Fleetwood Opens Up About His Rock Photography, Fleetwood Mac's Tour & Lindsey Buckingham's Departure
8/5/2018 by Nicole Pajer
When he’s not out drumming alongside Stevie Nicks and John McVie, Mick Fleetwood is paying homage to his favorite hobby: photography.
The 71-year-old rock drummer, who has been taking his own cameras out on the road with him since the early days of Fleetwood Mac, has always had an affinity for a great rock and roll shot. In order to share that with the public, he teamed up with the Morrison Hotel Gallery in 2016 to open a gallery space inside his Maui-based restaurant, Fleetwood’s General Store, which features a rotating array of fine art music photography.
On Saturday night (Aug. 4) in Los Angeles, Fleetwood -- who is in town rehearsing for the upcoming Fleetwood Mac tour -- popped by the Sunset Marquis Hotel in conjunction with the Morrison Hotel Gallery to showcase a selection of his favorite music shots, which included candid photos of the likes of Keith Richards, John Lee Hooker and bandmate Stevie Nicks.
Billboard caught up with Fleetwood on site to discuss his love of rock photography, his secret mission to infiltrate the stash of early Fleetwood Mac shots that McVie has been holding hostage and what he’s most looking forward to about his band’s upcoming tour
What inspired your partnership with the Morrison Hotel Gallery?
We’re celebrating our sixth year with my Fleetwood’s, and in a restaurant that’s a lot. That’s another way to lose your hair but we’re part of the fabric there now, which is great. We opened up with the Morrison Hotel Gallery about two years ago and it’s been a huge success. Pattie Boyd, who was married to George Harrison and Eric [Clapton], did a little tour with Peter Blachley, one of the owners of the gallery. I met them in Australia years ago when Pattie was doing a show and I went to support. We were on the road and Christine, myself and John went to a gallery opening to support Stevie who was showing a Polaroid shot. She doesn’t really do that but Peter approached her and she said, “Okay. I’ll do it.” I met Peter again. We talked about one day doing something and then he came on holiday to our gallery. We had a regular gallery with open art at Fleetwood’s and I decided to go into partnership with Morrison Hotel Gallery. I said, “This is it.” For me, it’s a perfect fit. It makes a lot of sense because this is my world. We have a lot of fun. Whenever I’m at the restaurant, I pop down into the gallery and talk about some of the pieces that I know and introduce some of the people in the photographs that I was inspired by.
What is it about rock photography that speaks to you?
Photography-wise, I do bits and pieces on landscapes and stuff, which is what we used to have in the gallery. Am I a serious dude? No. I just have fun doing it. And then a guy who owned a gallery in Maui was like, “You should put some of these up. People would love to see them.” So that’s how it started, showing photos, and I have fun doing that. I have a reverence for great photography. But I don’t consider myself in that league.
John McVie, who is the bass player in Fleetwood Mac, is a really good photographer and he never did anything with it. It’s just like, “John, why don’t you show somewhere?” I don’t think he can be bartered. But I actually referenced him in terms of buying good cameras back in the day and learning a little bit about stuff. I was the annoying guy with the camera way back in the day when I first started touring with John. Everyone used to go “Ah! Here is the busy body with the camera. This joker. Get out of here.” But now they appreciate them. It’s like being in a family where you’re like, “Thank God dad forced us to take all those pictures.”
I have a lot of respect for these rock photographers. You realize that some of them were really led into the inner circles of some of these artists and bands. And you see how those photographs really capture the artist, the moment. You really have to give these people kudos. There is something about them as people that allowed this type of thing to happen and that doesn’t seemingly ever really get referenced.
Are the walls in your home covered with rock photography?
I have a very sweet and lovely home but my place hasn’t got much wall space -- but I keep buying art. I go to my own gallery and I said, “Oh I want one of those.” I’ve got this whole load of photographs in storage. During this tour, I’m building a barn that is going to be a drum room and I have great aspirations for my overload of rock photography to be up on the wall there. And I will probably insist that John McVie gives me some of the s--t he’s got on Fleetwood Mac.
What are you most looking forward to about the upcoming Fleetwood Mac tour?
We’re very excited. Obviously this is a huge change with the advent of Lindsey Buckingham not being a part of Fleetwood Mac. We all wish him well and all the rest of it. In truthful language, we just weren’t happy. And I’ll leave it at that in terms of the dynamic. And he’s going out on the road more or less the same time I think -- not in the same places, I hope (laughs). So we’re with Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and Neil Finn from Crowded House -- both really credible gentleman and really talented. We are a week into rehearsals and it’s going really well and we’re looking forward, in true Fleetwood Mac style. If you know anything about the history of this band, it’s sort of peppered with this type of dramatic stuff. It’s a strange band really. It’s ironic that we have a 50-year package coming out with all the old blues stuff with Peter Green, all the incarnations of Fleetwood Mac, which was not of course planned. But that’s what we’re feeling, especially myself and John, having been in Fleetwood Mac for 55 years. So it’s exciting, totally challenging in the whole creative part of it, and we’re really loving it. We’re just looking at a whole 18 months on-and-off of trekking around the world like we normally do and having it be fun.

It's like they never knew Lindsey. Or if he were now a stranger.
This is so awful and disheartening! :(
I only hope he's right about Lindsey's solo tour. That's all I care about. ;)

What an A$$, I cannot stand him anymore. How flippant and cruel. And a different story, because the original one was lies.
I'm willing to bet a decent sum of money, that between him and $tevie, at some point they are going to babble and spill all the cruel beans.
I can't wait.

They are going to have to do something----particularly if ticket sales persist at these levels. I have no doubt they will pick up to some degree---but FM is used to selling out arenas....we aren't there yet and with no international leg announced yet....if things don't turnaround, I foresee a lot of backpedaling and revising of the tale. There is no way FM wants to go out like this.

All that Lindsey has done for your wallet and career Mick and you say that 'we' were unhappy.....seriously what had or has Lindsey ever done to him to say such nasty and ungrateful things about him in the media.

Surely they don't want to go out like this....but when your colleague (Mick) has said the band is unhappy with you (for no obvious or apparent reason) and has previously slept with your ex, who you were still in love with that happens to be in the same band as you AND then trashes you in his autobiography with intimate details of a fight that occurred when you left the band in 1987.....then surely you realise your ex band member is a true mug and enoughs enough and you choose NEVER TO GO BACK AGAIN......ever, right?!
Also the whole 'we' are unhappy...are you speaking for Christine too Mick......where is she, why is she not speaking up?!!!!

This just gets more sickening by the day..I understand that Mick is hopelessly greedy and that Stevie has become a bitter old diva who wants her way so it is the McVies that are starting to seem just as complicit to me .They should have just called it a day and Fleetwood Mac would have ended there ..when it should have.

Hardly an "opening up" on what happened, is it. But thanks for posting this new tidbit.
In truthful language, we just weren’t happy.
Sounds like he's using the Royal We here--speaking on behalf of the "Stevie Micks" symbiot.
Unless John had some reason to be unhappy with Lindsey too--but that seems to be clutching at straws.

You folks must live in an alternate reality or something. In what world do 3 other people who have been in a band together for 40 years just immediately go against one of its band mates just because of something ONE person supposedly suggested? All of these people have plenty of money to live out their days and are not shy or mute.
Christine or John would have spoken up by now and refused to participate in this tour if Lindsey DIDN'T DO SOMETHING TO DESERVE THIS! Get a grip!
What's next? Stevie is responsible for global warming? Oh I am sorry. You probably don't believe that is real either.

Hate to break it to you, but there is no loyalty in this band ESPECIALLY when large chunks of money are at risk. There is no alternate reality.
There are quotes about threatening to replace Lindsey with (I think) Pete Townsend of The Who dating back to 1981.
Nothing, absolutely NOTHING stops a big money making cash grab tour for Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks.

That's the reality. She's become about pleasing her mgmt, agents, and the big corporate machine. There's not room for Lindsey and the creative process.
His desire to keep Fleetwood Mac a creative force has been extinguished. $he and Mick are all about $$$. And that's the bottom line. Pun intended.
It's their Fleetwood Mac now. Cash Cow.

Aka they could of cashed in on a boatload of money by replacing Christine with Sheryl Crow and who was the only one who spoke up and said maybe this isn't the best idea both musically and artistically? - Lindsey.
Now they can release all the greatest hits/50th anniversary crap they want and spend their last active years being a parody of themselves.

I don't blame John for anything. I think he has always just gone along with whatever Mick says. He's not going to change that pattern at this point, even if he does think sacking Lindsey is a stupid move. He just wants to play his bass and stay out of the drama.
Christine's role in this is more complicated. After the creative and emotional success of BuckVie last year (the album was great, the tour was fun), she must be feeling that she's lost her real musical partner. The one who made everything work, both in the studio and on the road. So why didn't she take his side, put her foot down, leave the band? We'll never know for sure, but I'm sure it has something to do with her longstanding friendships and lifelong shared histories with Mick and John. She is good friends with John, and Mick was the one who stayed in touch with her during her retirement and helped her get on that first airplane flight. Despite his obvious greed and the undeniable fact that he puts money ahead of creativity, he's not all bad as a human being. I'm sure she both gets along with him on a personal level and feels that she owes him a debt of gratitude for his help during the time she rejoined the band. (Plus, who knows if there are "contractual obligations.")
I realize that this reads as if I'm trying to defend Christine. I'm really not; I wish she'd done something to defend Lindsey, other than looking really uncomfortable in interviews. But I can see the complexity of the situation, from her viewpoint.

I know...its time ONE of the Buckinghams spoke.
I don't care for exact details of their fight, but simply something along the lines of...S and L had a non repairable argument (if it was that simple) and she then made the call that she couldn't tour with him and the rest of the band sided with her.
At least then there is no chance of any person saying that it was Lindsey's fault.
Where is the intrepid reporter who is going to ask/aknowledge: “you all recorded an album together last year. Stevie didn’t participate. Chris and Linda went on tour together. Were you all unhappy then?”

Yes, we'd like to know exactly what it was that made "we" so unhappy all of a sudden, especially after all the unhappiness this band has been through in the last 40+ years. So unhappy, that now they couldn't continue and finish with their greatest lineup. He glossed over the fact that he wasn't going to go into the dynamics of that. MICK, WHERE ARE YOUR BALLS NOW?! seems they were hollow after all.

After reviewing the various quotes by band members etc. when compiling the "Record" thread, I reached the following conclusion:
(1) LINDSEY was the one who was visibly unhappy (with all their Greatest Hits touring)
(2) When Tom died suddenly on tour, Stevie bona fide freaked out about her own imminent mortality and she drew a voodoo line of happiness around her that necessarily excluded brooding Lindsey's whinging about the band's direction
(3) Something brought things to a head around MusicCares--it might have simply been that the deadline for Lindsey to sign off on the tour plans was around that same date (it makes logistic sense that they'd schedule such a meeting around the same time as a gig)--and it was likely NOT some unconscionable or violent words or behavior by Lindsey against Stevie or her side, because in the interviews Stevie is confabulating merrily about the timing in a way that suggests she is trying to obfuscate something SHE did wrong and not in a way that suggests she is being forced to recall some traumatic moment in her life

This is essentially what I think, too, although I think the "unhappiness" Stevie was trying to remove from her life by removing Lindsey wasn't so much about his Greatest Hits touring dissatisfaction, but rather about the fact that he was the one man in her life who didn't always say "Yes, Stevie." She has surrounded herself with employees and people she can control and he was the only one who refused to back down.
Was he always in the right when they argued? No, I'm sure he wasn't. I'm sure he could be a pain at times. However, instead of dealing with conflict and even drawing strength from it like she used to, instead of maturely recognizing that occasionally she is the one in the wrong and everything isn't always Lindsey's fault, Stevie removed him in order to live in a soft word of sycophancy. Now she can "dance around the apartment" surrounded by those who will tell her only what she wants to hear. If that meant devastating Lindsey, then so be it. Only her happiness matters.
Another reason I think that this was all triggered by Tom's death is that as recently as the Classic Concerts in July 2017, Stevie was talking about how proud she was that Fleetwood Mac still had all 5 members from the Rumours era in it. Why explicitly say that is a point of pride if she were plotting to destroy it? Tom's death messed with her head.
But there's no question that she had Mike Campbell in the back pocket, so whatever happened at MusiCares that brought this to a head, whatever Lindsey said or did (such as arguing for a concurrent tour)... Stevie was ready for it. Thus, by that point, she must have been thinking about breaking up the Rumours 5.
Speculation: Since Tom's death, she had been thinking about how stressful this tour would be with Lindsey, thinking about how nice it would be if he simply weren't a part of it and someone like her friend Mike Campbell was... and thinking about scenarios where she could make that happen.

It's very true. And I understand you will defend her to no end. But, that doesn't make it untrue.
Well then how do you explain the large number of friends she has in the music industry? How about Marty Callner, Michael Campbell, Sheryl Crow, etc. etc. etc. Also, she has her family. Some people dont need 50 friends around. They prefer to trust in a smaller group of close friends. I am one of those people.
Why do you act like you know about her daily life? Just because you guys think she is Satan doesnt make it true either. You are like sheep. One person has a thought and the next follow right along and builds on it with another made up alternative fact and it just goes on and on. In the meantime you are chasing fans away from this board and you dont even seem to care. It is pretty sad.

I have no words for you JohnL. You got us. We are $heep. We followed the bands lies and accepted the fact that they weren't lying about the tour. And I don't believe for one second that they are now backtracking and were just "unhappy".
In fact, I don't believe for one second that there was any altercation between $tevie and Lindsey. I believe that they just didn't like him and decided to fire him because of his constant nagging in wanting to make new music.
If you look at the history, Lindsey has always been mean to her. When he came to give his resignation back in 1987 at Christine's house, (which she quietly and politely accepted) he attacked her!!
When they broke up, Stevie wanted to stay in the relationship but no. Do you know what he did?? He passed her around to the Eagles and made her sleep with all of them. THEN!! He made her sleep with Mick after that!!
He was constantly in and out of rehab to the point where she was scared and uncomfortable.
I can not in good conscious be a sheep! I $tand with $tevie!!! bahhhhhhhhh

Why explicitly say that is a point of pride if she was plotting to destroy it? Tom's death messed with her head.
But there's no question that she had Mike Campbell in the back pocket, so whatever happened at MusiCares that brought this to a head, whatever Lindsey said or did (such as arguing for a concurrent tour)... Stevie was ready for it. Thus, by that point, she must have been thinking about breaking up the Rumours 5.
Speculation: Since Tom's death, she had been thinking about how stressful this tour would be with Lindsey, thinking about how nice it would par be if he simply weren't a part of it and someone like her friend Mike Campbell was... and thinking about scenarios where she could make that happen.
I don't know if all this awful scenario was triggered by Tom's death. To me that's just a way of justifying what she did. I think she has been planning this for a long time and his death was the perfect excuse. I'm sad so I can't do whatever I want. No, Stevie, you can't.
But I agree with you about removing Lindsey from her life because he was not part of her "yes people" team. Well, if that makes her 100% happy and she's gonna stop talking about a married man as if he was still her 17 year old boyfriend, and she has the power to do it (which she obviously has), who am I to tell her anything? Problem is, I don't think it's gonna make her 100% happy and she's not gonna stop talking about him. And that makes what she did even sadder. :(

Kristen's previous comments debunking the band's story and essentially calling them liars have been shared all over the internet. If the lawyers were going to say something, they would have done so already, I imagine.
Interestingly, Frederico Pol, who was the only member of Lindsey's or Fleetwood Mac's backing bands to make any kind of public statement about Lindsey's treatment, is now backpedaling on social media somewhat and urging everyone to "love all the folks in the Mac" even if we are "disappointed in their choices." When I saw that, I wondered if there were some kind of communication from Lindsey about cooling off any social media negativity now that he's going on tour.
Apparently not.
Still, I can't blame her for venting her frustration. Perhaps doing so with a bit less... color would have been better.

Yet so cavalier about someone who was allegedly a friend, bailed this guys a$$ out of a jam more times than any of us could count.
How exactly did he bail them out? He’d been dropped when they asked him to join and bombed as a solo artist after he quit. He needed them as much as he needed them.

Which has been the norm in this band. Each force has propelled the other. Speaking in terms of the Rumours' incarnation.

I totally agree The Dance was critical to the resurgence of this band, however where I will respectfully disagree is on “bailing” out, and maybe that’s not the best way to phrase, but given how Lindsey put solo efforts on hold for the good of the band (SYW) and how he managed to pull albums together while one or more of his band mates were physically incapable of being there deserves kudos, imo

There would have have been no Tango in the Night had it not been for him making it. Christine wasn't going to do it. And Tango's commercial success bailed out the whole band.
I think this whole fascinating saga of the firing will be revealed officially some day, and it will include just about everything you guys are saying. Many astute points being made in this thread. I think that saga will also include revealing info about the Buckingham McVie album and tour:
Did Mick turn against the project after seeing sales were low for what was aurally a Fleetwood Mac album?
Did Stevie turn against the project out of jealousy?
Did the tour and the press rub some band members the wrong way? Did Christine's positive, joyous response to the project rub some band members the wrong way?
I think that project played a serious part in the firing saga in an emotional and possibly even a logistical sense. Lindsey and Chris may have even been hoping that by touring behind new music and doing it onstage, it may have sparked a sense of "OK, let's do it" in Stevie. And when it didn't, who knows how things turned south emotionally?

but given how Lindsey put solo efforts on hold for the good of the band (SYW)
Nope. Not giving him that one. That album was recorded in a way that gave it durablity as to how it could be released, which he probably felt could be an issue given the changes at Warner Bros. However, the album was largely completed prior to 1997, so how it was released was his call, not theirs. He chose to wait and make it a Fleetwood Mac album.
Way to give up the high ground.
I'd say she's still on a lot higher ground than Mick & Co., by a LANDSLIDE!

Fleetwood Mac is a big money making machine for a lot of people, not just the members in the band. People that wield a lot more power than Mick or Stevie. He was probably contacted and given some "friendly advice".

DING DING DING
We have a winner.
Bingo.
I don't agree with all 3 of your premises but 100% agree with the fact the Buckingham/McVie project indirectly led to Lindsey's firing. The album did ok and probably better than expected so I don't think Mick was upset with the project. However, the project did change the chemistry of the band. I would bet my life if the band waited for Stevie to finish her never ending solo tour without doing any projects, Stevie would have sucked it up and moved on. I don't think the jealousy is directed at Christine but Lindsey. How dare he work with the band without me!!!!!!!
I hate to say "TOLD YA SO" but this time last year there was a debate on this board was it really a Fleetwood Mac record? Many Stevie supporters thought it was a crazy idea to say or think the band went out of their way to not call the project a Fleetwood Mac album (even though they all played on it).
YOU SEE NOW. The band knows and knew her mindset with Lindsey working with the band without her. They walked on egg shells but that was not enough. Soon enough Stevie drew the line....its Lindsey or me. Mick takes the heat and protects Stevie with this decision. I, like you see right through it. The Buckingham/McVie project killed Fleetwood Mac. Not calling it a Fleetwood Mac album was NOT enough. How dare they make an album that I refuse to be part of (as she walked down the long hallway)!

Sure, but would he have had a top five hit or made nearly as much money without the Fleetwood Mac brand? Probably not, using his prior two and one subsequent albums as examples.
The one possibility regarding your list that I’d add: Did Lindsey became insufferable (to them) after the album came out? Because, he seemed to be especially on an ego trip during some of the press (especially re: TITN).

Frankly, this is all sad. Stevie didn't want Lindsey in the band anymore and Mick went along with it. Business decision, simple as that. I am sure the band and its management have disappointment in the negative response and the less than anticipated ticket sales volume, but it is still significantly more than a Stevieless band would have garnered.
My sadness is ultimately this is our final snapshot of a band that was truly a sophisticated combination of poetry and symphony for all generations.

As for the speculation about what role Tom’s death had on Lindsey getting canned, your guess is as good as mine. My guess is that it was minimal.
This time last year, I was thinking Lindsey was on a bit of an ego trip. “In My World” seemed especially about Stevie, he seemed dismissive towards Christine re: the making of TITN, he admitted he was only doing the Fleetwood Mac shows for the money, and put on sub-par (per reviews) shows. I thought he was in trouble before Tom’s death.

Look everyone can continue to make arguments towards who contributed what, and who has the bigger ego etc... The fact remains, that what the rest of the band did to the guy who contributed the lions share of the work producing the albums that they all got rich from, keeping the band touring when Mcvie left around 2000, (which included a brutal live show that couldn't have been easy for guy pushing 70) is embarrassing.
Does everyone here enjoy all the people they work with all the time? I don't think so. They had to have known that this would hurt the legacy of the band, and Lindsey's legacy and they did it anyway. Why?
I really think there is some deep-seated jealousy that exists on the part of Stevie. She may bring in more financially, but she will never achieve the status that Lindsey quietly has among his peers. How many people have really changed music? Very few. She seems like an unhappy person to me, who unfortunately like many stars is left with no one to tell her no. The last person who did that is gone. Look at the cost.

Oh, come on, Hopkins, you've been around the block long enough. Out of all the people in Fleetwood Mac over the years, Buck is just about the last guy anyone with any sense could accuse of lackluster stage work. "Reviews"? Who, fans? Critics? Weirdos? My hunch is that what you saw was somebody saying that Buck didn't measure up to his own standards. That's a different matter. You talk about that as if he was deliberately doing a drunken Danny Kirwan circa 1972, trying to destroy a show. His performances are not at the root of his firing.
As for what he says to the media—he's been periodically calling Fleetwood Mac a musical prostitute since about 1978. I doubt a few offhand remarks about a couple of big, bland festivals created much of a stir (especially since they were so innocuous—and so accurate).

He could have been more open to doing the pre-75 stuff, too.The fact that we'd love to hear it doesn't mean that these bands are under some sort of existential obligation to revisit their old catalogues onstage. There were songs that Stevie and Lindsey wrote that they didn't want to perform. How can you blame him for not wanting to do Hypnotized tour after tour? Set lists are a personal thing. My attitude as audience is "You play what you want, just play it well and entertain me."
The major reason I'm unenthusiastic about this newest incarnation is because I know that it'll be a replay of 1987–1990: new guys told to play a bunch of songs that a previous version of the band made famous, and play them in a traditional coverish way. Don't reinvent, don't get quirky, don't let too much of your own personality cloud the "personality" of the old song.
My favorite thing of the 1987 tour — Rick's mournful I Loved Another Woman — was Rick channeling Peter Green.
The 1975 group could have spent the next ten years playing Green and Kirwan and Welch, but I'm not sure anyone was really up to that. Zzzzzz. . . .

We’ll have to agree to disagree. I doubt she considered him an option for Fleetwood Mac until the fallout with Lindsey. Tom was heavily on her mind at that point, she was headed to Hawaii after MusiCares, and she was probably planning a visit with Mike on that trip. Mike may have been in her thoughts, but that doesn’t equate to giving Lindsey the boot.

He was approached before Musicares, and even if that's a lie, it all happened too fast. Even though they have all known Mike for a long time, you'd think he would need time to think about it, and yet Lindsey was fired a couple of days later.

They're a dysfunctional family, but that only includes Mick, John, Christine, Lindsey and Stevie. So there's a good chance that after that MF, he would be invited to rejoin the band and he will say 'yes'... and KB will look like a fool.

We agree again! Definitely not classy. She just had to keep repeating that this is all lies and being supportive to Lindsey without stooping to using MF....I mean not nice for her kids to read, right?
Also if Lindsey chose to ever go back to the band, KB is going to look like a bit of a fool
Definitely low brow, but given she likely knows more of the truth than any of us--seeing the lies slowly trickle out, is likely tough to take. Mick all but confirmed they lied in the CBS and Sirius interviews. KB dropping an "F-bomb" is no worse than the blatant lies Mick, John, Christine and Stevie are spinning. Or spun, since Mick's most recent comments all but confirm they lied. Dropping an "F-bomb"=poor judgement. Lying=Shotty integrity. Tougher to recover from shotty integrity. If LB were to ever go back to the band, KB would look no worse than the rest of them.

KB will look like a fool.
I think Mick and Stevie have the monopoly (oligopoly..) in that department.
Interviewer
Right. And prior to that, you thought the tour was going to be with Lindsey?
Stevie Nicks
Well, we didn't...
Christine McVie
Yes.
Mick Fleetwood
...know we had a tour. That was, is, part of the problem in terms of where it became a total impasse. The four of us had to come to a decision where we planned to be doing a large, huge, lovely Fleetwood Mac tour, and Lindsey, for sure, had very different opinions about when that should start. And the whole thing, without belaboring it, was percolating in a way that was not OK for the majority of the band in terms of knowing that we were going to go on tour. And he had, for whatever reasons... and Lindsey would, I'm sure, address it in terms of a project he was working on... but it's not about oh, what do you mean, why couldn't you wait, and all that stuff. We'd planned on doing what we were doing for a long, long time and the majority rules in terms of what we needed to do as a band and go forward. And it literally hit a brick wall after the show and Fleetwood Mac is no... you're sitting there, you're very conversant with the strange animal known as Fleetwood Mac.... and really, a lot of other sensibilities came into play where it just wasn't a happy situation. And we made that decision that we were going to part company.
Mick:
If I could turn the page
In Rolling Stone, then I'd rearrange
Just a lie or two
Stevie (brooding about Tom):
'Spose I, 'spose I, 'spose I die?
Mick:
But we forgot our scripts today
So let's just gaslight and pray
They'll believe it's true
Stevie:
Bag of, bag of, bag of lies
Mick: Sellin lies, sellin sweet little lies
Neil: Love u guys--phonecall was surprise!
Christine: I know, I'll just avert my eyes
Mick: Pays my wives. Mike: I was hypnotized!

Yeah, difference is they're rock stars, so everything is forgiven and forgotten as long as they perform together again.
I guarantee that many fans that are now spending all day calling names to Mick and Stevie on social media will run to buy tickets if Lindsey is ever part of the band again.

Regarding Kristen calling Mick a Mother phucker, I seem to recall Wendy Welch using the exact same term right here on TL when she was upset about Bob not being inducted into the RARHOF.
On another note, calling someone a swear word in today's world of constant insults is really no big deal. The woman is angry and has every right to be. I say let her vent. It's not like I haven't used those words or more colorful ones when I feel angry.

And in a time where conflict resolution skills seem totally out the window and people grab guns to settle differences, calling someone a slur is small potatoes, really.
I personally hope MF's "happiness meter" grinds to subzero with the empty seats and negative press and personnel issues in the forthcoming months. I cannot wait!! :blob1::blob2::thumbsup:

Oh agreed, I can swear like the best of them, but considering her position it wasn't the best strategy in my opinion. LBs reaction to the **** Stevie Nicks call at the political fundraiser shows he's personally choosing to be more dignified in his stance.

I’m cutting Kristin some slack on this one. You should hear me talk after watching a few episodes of “Orange is the New Black!” Whoa!!
It must be infuriating from her perspective, what the band has done. All the lying and spinning of tales. Oh, and firing her hubby.
I have a feeling that there is way more to this than anyone knows, except
them. No one goes on social media and calls someone a MF***er unless they really f****d something up. And in the grand scheme of things, it’s peanuts compared to what the band did.
She has posted 1/2 dozen comments, or less, in the past 5 months, it’s not like she’s daily bashing anyone.
At least I feel confident she’s telling the truth. More than I can say for the rest of the band. Idiots.

I agree with all of this. Christine feels not just love for but an obligation to Mick. He helped her overcome her fear of flying. She promised him she’d never leave again....
Still, I wish she said, “Are you effing kidding me?!” when they fired LB—and just left to do her own album.

"It’s a strange one, really, because we’re not really the best of chums," McVie, 74, said in a separate call a little later. "We don’t really hang out very much together. But we have a really strong musical bond with each other. Once we’re in the studio, we work as a team really well. We inspire ideas with each other. It is quite amazing, really, that I can listen to something he’s playing and tooling around on, and then we link up off each other very well. It’s been like that over the years — we come up with different ideas, and cooperate in a very natural way."

Fair enough, maybe friend or chum is too literal, but Buck & Vie have a strong, respectful healthy musical relationship/connection....when Mick speaks for all and says 'we were unhappy' I don't believe for a second this includes Chris.

I don’t disagree. However—and this is crucial, I think, to Christine’s reaction—it’s not just Sevie but Mick who have acted appallingly. They seem to have approached this very much as a duo. Maybe not? Either way, Christine IS enabling this to happen but I don’t think she feels she has the strength or wherewithal to counter it.

I have to wonder--if in the deep dark recesses of their zillion dollar homes, when all of their yes men aren't lurking in the wings saying how wonderful they all are...there isn't some element of "WTF" did we do. I genuinely think Stevie in her narcissistic ways thought that basically no one would notice and/or care that Lindsey was no longer in the band and I genuinely think that Mick thought that tour popularity/ticket sales and the bottom line profitability of the tour would be pretty unaffected.

I 100% agree with you--which is why I have to wonder what "their people" are telling them. I am willing to bet, if they don't extend this tour beyond the US, they will hide behind other obligations (Stevie now on AHS???) and not the less than stellar/what FM normally expects (i.e. abysmal) ticket sales.

OMG! This is STILL going on?
Ticket sales: Why is anyone surprised by this? They have continually shoveled out the same setlist for over two decades now (outside of the Say You Will tour but even that evolved further and further into the formulaic FM setlist with time) and honestly, yep - even I am tired of "Dreams", "Go Your Own Way" and "Big Love" by this point. Lindsey's motivational speeches and Mick's over long drum solos - those can go too. It's boring and it's predictable and with how much these tickets are now - its becoming harder and harder to justify.
I saw BuckVie opening night in Atlanta - 4th or 5th row. The show was better than expected but I remember walking away thinking ARE MY CHILDHOOD IDOLS PHONING IT IN NOW? They're singing along to guided vocals like a pop star....what's the world coming to indeed.
I also say Stevie on the 24K tour 4th row in Orlando as part of my honeymoon. Admittedly, Stevie & the Mac have been around since before I can remember and husband thought itd be cute to surprise me with these tickets. Was it long and rambling? YES! But I loved the the Storytellers/Behind The Music aspect to it. It was DIFFERENT!
As for Lindsey being the genius of FM - I giggle every single time someone comes up with this. Okay. Maybe back in the day. Have you actually heard Say You Will and BuckVie? I dont know if he gets demoitis and cant fill a song anymore but, it all sounds half baked. The exception is probably "Miranda" but the rest just do not have the Mac magic. The songs aren't full and are just incredibly sparse in arrangement and production. Is it any wonder? Seriously, go listen to the "Wall Of Sound" version of "Thrown Down" (which yes, I know he was involved with) and tell me he didn't completely ruin this song for "Say You Will". I'd have fired him then just for that alone but, thats me. "Thrown Down" is or was the modern Stevie classic and he torched it with production. Then you go to "Mabel Normand" which is beautiful and gorgeous and FULL in production and a fully realized song from the depths of demo Hell (yeah, I still dont know how they pulled this song from THAT demo but....) and its great. Yeah, I wouldn't want Lindsey anywhere near Stevie's songs now.
I still don't know why there still seems to be such a witch hunt for Stevie or excuse me, $tevie, in regards to this whole Lindsey being fired thing comes from. A majority here seem to think they were in the middle of these conversations as they were going down. No one knows anything. Lindsey hasn't said anything yet (he sure does have a thing for women who spill all of his business doesn't he), Stevie has said very little and yet, y'all are ready to burn her down. Makes no sense.

There is a post above about how Christine should never stand for this and should walk away. Did you ever think that maybe she agrees? Maybe Lindsey did or said something really terrible AGAIN and she thinks he deserves to be out?
This seems really unlikely, after the fun Christine had making and touring the BuckVie album with Lindsey. There is a quote above from Chris from last year in which she talks about Lindsey as her musical partner; that quote reflects the attitude Chris has always had. She has also looked really uncomfortable in interviews since the Lindsey firing, and hasn't said anything indicating she is looking forward to this new incarnation of the Mac. In other words, there is no evidence that Chris wanted Lindsey out of the band.

The exception is probably "Miranda" but the rest just do not have the Mac magic. The songs aren't full and are just incredibly sparse in arrangement and production. This of course is subjective. If the tracks don't do anything for you, they don't. What can you do? Some of the sparest tracks are some of the most breathtaking to me: Save Me a Place, Angel, Dreams, Honey Hi, Steal Your Heart Away. For my money, there's Mac magic on these and others—a lean, clean rhythm track and a minimal overlay of acoustic guitar or electric piano, very little else. They're all the right production for the song. That's the Mac magic, not necessarily copious amounts of rococo ornamentation (although the Mac can work magic out of that, too). I think most of the tracks on the Buckingham McVie album have some charm, and the songs seem to benefit from the light touch they're given.

Hopkins - you are one of the most longtime, respected posters on The Ledge. I think you actually like this Mac change. Your passive aggressive posts certainly hint a that. It is okay. Let the world know, you had grown tired of a Buckingham led Mac and are looking forward to the rebranded Mac.
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t impressed by or happy with who they brought in. But, I’m not happy about what happened. Still, I try to be objective and see all points of view. I just don’t dig the misrepresentation of the band as having some sort of evil conspiracy against Lindsey. It’s overly simplistic and ignores the history of the band.
Of everything I heard before it was made public, the one thing that has come out since is that there was some type of blowout between Stevie and Lindsey. While I don’t know what was said or what went down, I have every faith that it could have been ugly enough to have caused a permanent fracture between them. A choice apparently had to be made between the two, and they went with the one that made the most financial sense. I don’t agree with that decision, but I can’t fault it. And, as a fan, I’m not surprised by it (LBCM instead of Fleetwood Mac).
Am I tired of Lindsey? I think his production style is a little stale and I hate his stage banter, but at least he’s trying. I want him to study someone like Robert Pollard or Richard Thompson. Throw a little more caution to the wind.
As for Christine, she has always made a point to say she and Lindsey were never chums, that their relationship was mostly professional. Mick is like family to her and has been for 50 years or so, even when she was retired, while John was literally family. Her loyalty will always be with Mick and John, even if she disagrees with them. It’s unrealistic and unreasonable to expect something different from a 75 year old woman just getting back into what she loves, especially all they’ve gone through.

There's not enough information to determine, in my opinion. She might have signed an agreement w/ Fleetwood Mac upon her return. "you can come back, but it's not for a one off" One that Lindsey made clear he wanted. Who knows?
She may have called him after the firing. We just don't know.

Well, regardless. She just came back to the band. This could very well be her last tour. Lindsey can't in good faith expect her to bail on his behalf. Especially, when it hardly involves her.
If she did(bail), I would faint of the goodness of that gesture. But, time is running out for her. That's her biggest priority. TIME (and not the album!)

^ You mean like watching the Christmas bonus flying out the window?
I don't really think money means that much to Lindsey. He and his family are quite comfortable. He has always said the "big machine" makes it possible for him to do the small machine- the stuff he likes to bring out to the boutique fans. But I definitely believe Lindsey will still be creative and may even join up with another band. (the rest of the Heartbreakers are available, along with so many other talented musicians- people that aren't even in the public eye)
This old article from Rolling Stone shows his attitude toward money:
https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/lindsey-buckingham-lonely-guy-77858/
What I remember most about Lindsey in most recent times is when that whole "fan club" debacle rolled out on mickdotcom or whatever it was called. Lindsey and his management were the only ones to speak out against it.

To me, these choices were insult to injury.
My friend Steve sees Fleetwood Mac as a crockpot—any good ingredient should get chucked in, where it'll simmer for several hours and break down and be just delicious. Throw in a little Dave Walker, Rick Vito, Bekka Bramlett, Dave Mason, Neil Finn (maybe throw in Tim Finn while you're at it), Sheryl Crow, Mike Campbell—if they're good musicians, you'll have a tangy gazpacho.
I see Fleetwood Mac as a mathematically precise recipe (the way baking recipes are precise)—you can't just toss in anything and expect it to gel. I love hollandaise sauce, but I don't want it ladled over my gelato.
The best members in Fleetwood Mac over the years weren't just good musicians—they were the inevitably right musicians for that group. That rightness isn't easy to articulate, but most of us know it when we see it and hear it. Peter, Jeremy, Danny, Mick, and John had an inevitable rightness. They were charismatic, musically inventive, wacky, electrifying—the cultural chinks in the wall. The Rumours 5 at least for a time had its own charisma. Even the Welch+McVie+McVie+Weston+Fleetwood group created a memorable whole out of disparate parts. The recipe in each case worked.
I realize that we haven't really seen or heard from this latest group of parts, but we're all familiar enough with the two new guys and the departed guy to know that we're not going to be experiencing another classic lineup. By the way, those guys were memorable elements of their respective bands—Mike Campbell's guitar playing shot the Heartbreakers to worldwide popularity. But he isn't the right ingredient for Fleetwood Mac.

What's even worse is all the sacrifices Lindsey has made over the years by not taking more production credits on albums and co write credits on songs. The royalty money he's already sacrificed for the sake of being politically correct and keeping the peace in the band is outrageous. And then to get kicked in the face and out of the band is beyond comprehension. I think Mick deserves to be called a Mother ****er, on social media or not. Hell, I'd even throw an Old Goat Breath Stevie's way if it was up to me.

A bit off topic but nearly everything she did solo-wise after from Rock A Little on was horrendous. Regardless of how I feel about her personally. Belladonna and The Wild Heart are two truly fantastic albums. People talk about Tango In The Night sounding dated but have they actually listened to Rock A Little and The Other Side Of The Mirror?

Oh god, it is dated. It's overproduced. It doesn't sound like a band playing, but rather a studio creation. I mean, I guess you could say the same thing about someone like...Pink Floyd or some other band. I've always thought that if it was impossible for a band to replicate live, then they probably overdid it during the recording process.
Tango is only marginally better(to me) than BTM or even Time. I actually find Time to be a little more interesting that Tango, when I'm in the mood for it.

It is a classic masterpiece of pop/rock.
Lindsey's production is beyond perfection on it.
Yeah, RAL is dated, but there are quite a few songs that are not, such as the title track(I love the guitar in it)," "Imperial Hotel," "No spoken word," and the ballad "Has anyone ever written anything for you," is timeless.
"TOSOTM," is a bit dated, but "Rooms on Fire,' "Long way to go," "Ooh my love," and "Alice," are great songs.
TISL is a classic Stevie solo album for sure.
I never get tired of it.
In regards to Lindsey solo, I never understood why "Out of the cradle," didn't sell. That album is a masterpiece and should have won a Grammy, IMO.
It really pissed me off that radio didn't embrace that album.

I just think constant complaining about anything is a reflection.
Some posters on The ledge only post negative comments, in a herd mentality sort of way.
I've looked at profiles here, and some members message history show the vast majority of posts as negative.
I've had quite a bit of ups and downs in my life, as everyone has.
And in hindsight, always looking for the negative in stuff is depressing.
It becomes a perpetual cycle of finding fault, feeling negative, and then being unable to face the next situation with an open mind. Eventually, the capacity for feeling joy is compromised, IMO.
Discussion groups online have always tended to be like this.
I have enjoyed FM so much for decades, and nothing can take away the joy this music has given me, and continues to give me.

Those extra lyrics are killer and that version of the song should've been included on the album. Are we off topic now?! Maybe not. Lindsey and Stevie(FM) are definitely going their own way. Planets of the universe....go their way.

Agreed! Her first two albums were really great. BD especially! I played it several times last week.
How dare you post a positive comment about Stevie's career when all we do is trash her all the time? :D
After the glitter fades and Rooms on Fire are my favorite Stevie's songs. Shocking!:lol:
How DARE he go and get a life!!! The thing she never did. I guess you can only life in fairy land for so long, then you wind up old and bitter, because you never ventured out of your safe space.
Even though $tevie got the last laugh in FM, Lindsey got the last laugh in LIFE. Which matters more?
Bitter old hag.
THIS!!!! I mean, in 10 years, how much is it gonna matter that she kicked him out of FM? Was it worth it? To push him away of her life forever after 50 years just to be able to dance happily around her house?

I truly believe that she's so jealous of him and his family. He got the life she always wanted, but was too batsh*t crazy to have, and she just HATES it. "I'll show him!!!!" Hag.

Yup, Stevie and Lindsey are indeed going their own way, again.
I wish they could have held it together for one last, final hurrah...But these 5 people have always been on the verge of fragmenting.

I think it's more complicated than the online assumptions fans are making.
I think it must be, otherwise everyone would be telling their versions of the story. If it was just between Stevie and Lindsey I don’t think the other band members would just follow along with it and I also think Stevie would be more proud of herself in the press. Same if it was between Mick and Lindsey. I actually think if Mick just had a problem with Lindsey, Stevie would be first in line defending Lindsey. So I still feel like Lindsey must have insulted everyone somehow, triggering Mick’s temper, Stevie’s bitterness and John and Christine’s compliance. If it’s just about scheduling everyone’s silence makes no sense. If management got involved you’d think Lindsey would be out there defending himself. Aside from that one video where Lindsey says it wasn’t his choice we still haven’t heard his side (or anyone’s, really, unless you count the super canned initial press video) and that seems odd.

WE is also used by cowards, you know, to hide behind others...
My point is even if he was talking only about himself, we already heard at least HIS side. He wasn't happy. And he's gonna leave it at that. So, good luck trying to get something else from him. Or anyone for that matter.

TITN doesn't sound dated at all to me. I'm listening to it now. It sounds fantastic, especially dialed up real loud. TISL is a classic Stevie solo record. There was life after BD, at least for me, concerning Stevie solo. Yes, and I think Lindsey won, because he found it. If you find "it", you have won the game.
I listened to Tango on Thursday and every single track sounds amazing. I played it really loud on a hi fi system with a nice woofer.

Tango “could’ve” been right up there with Tusk and Rumours but fails miserably from a few song choices. After the reissue from last Year I’m way more angry at whoever was behind the Moranic song choices. Until that reissue I just chalked that all yo to Stevie’s rehab and not being present enough. But now that I know that Julie, ooh my love and Joan of Arc ( what a missed oppurtunity, this could’ve been the gold Dust Woman of tango)
I’m not making any accusations on who’s fault this is. My first instinct is to blame Lindsey since he is the be all end all of Fleetwood Mac’s sound even before he was the band I guess? But who knows, maybe Stevie demanded her rehab song (WTTR Sara) make the cut, I don’t know l. But if Lindsey was behind
These song choices he looses a lot of credibility with me as deserving credits for g ithe bands sound. But again I just don’t know. And While Stevie’s songs are the most phghgzzling to me I also feel Where we Beong is onr of the best songs on the albu. If it had made the cut. Should’ve taken the place of You and I.
As th album stands I think it makes an incredible EP if you take the first 5 songs then it’s useless to me.

If Book Of Miracles/Juliet had been finished and Oh My love had been refined closer to how it ended up a few years later and WTFSara had been dropped as well as one of the weirder LB songs, Tango would have been a mich more approachable album 30+ years later. As is only one Stevie song is listenable. christines songs are all great except Mystified.

Peter Green was a member of FM for LESS then 3 years.
Bob Welch for 4 years.
Lindsey Buckingham was a member of FM for 33 years.

But the statistics are skewed. When Green and Welch were in Fleetwood Mac they were working, recording, touring. For the 30-40 years of the Rumours generation, they were mostly not working for Fleetwood Mac; instead, they were pretty much resting on their laurels.

Ohh I'm not a math guy but you're going to make me do it anyways....
White Album - let's say 6 months recording and another 6 months touring/promoting
Rumours - we all know it took a year to make and they spent about a year touring it
Tusk - Solid year to make and another solid year on the road
So thats 5 years right there....
Mirage....I believe this is slightly less than a year...we'll say 9 months, plus a short tour of 3 months. 1 year total.
Dance Tour - april through january - 9 months.
Say You Will (complain a year after the fact) - a year to record and a year on the road
'09 "Benign" Tour - a year including rehearsals
2013 Stevie and Lindsey Love Boat Tour - 8 months
2014/2015 Christine Shatters The Nicks Ego - A year.
That's 11 years and 5 months of touring and recording. Doesn't even compare to the time put in by Welch or Green, no offense to them.
Edit: I left out the time Lindsey spent recording tango and the EP. So add even more time to the total.

You neglected to mention the couple of years he spent labouring over Tango In The Night. Furthermore, over the past 20 years I'm sure he'd liked to have been much more active with this band, but others put a spanner in the works on several occasions.

There's not one song I dislike on TITN. Even Stevie's small contributions add up to make this album excellent. Probably having less Stevie enabled Lindsey and Chris to forge an even stronger musical presence on the album. It really is the epitome of the great work these two do together. Lindsey's production skills shine much the same way they do on OOTC. It's just a very slick, well put together piece of music.

I've been saying for ages that Tango is one of the best 80s pop albums ever and people always seemed to trash it
Obviously if you don't like the way a lot of pop music sounded in that time you're not going to like it, but I think it's just terrific especially given the circumstances of making it. And if people say it doesn't 'sound like a band', well they weren't really the most 'together' band at the time so it's not too surprising that that shows through.

Well then you don't know much about Stevie-- she absolutely needs 50 people around. All. The. Time. It's amusing how you say she has loads of friends and then say she doesn't need lots of people around her.

Joan of Arc has amazing atmosphere, but is a lazily written song. She sings the same verse two times in a row--- so the song just stagnates. In the re-worked version Lindsey moved pieces around to give it a verse/chorus verse/chorus structure. Where LB can be too analytical with a song, Stevie can be too emotional, and falls in love with her little words (as she said in the SYW doc) but sometimes her words are a mess. You can't build a whole, compelling song with a story that goes nowhere and repeats verbatim the same verses. That's what happens when you think everything you fart out is perfection and don't actual work at it. It's why Lady drones on and on and repeats itself like your dotty grandmother who tells you the same story she just told you five seconds ago. But Dave wasn't gonna give her any constructive criticism. Now, granted, Lindsey often gave her nasty criticism, and he's reaping what he sowed with some of that nasty crap he pulled in the past now. But he also made her songs HITS.
and btw, didn't Richard comment about all of this when it happened something along the lines of this being an ugly moment in the ongoing power struggle between S & L? If anyone has a long view on their true dynamics from day one, it'd be him.

And another thing I want to add about Kristen B. swearing at Mick online, just imagine how pissed off she is on losing out on all that money. Talk about counting your chickens before they're hatched. Imagine all the plans the Buckingham's had made to use their up and coming ten million dollars. And now all those gigantic dreams are just swept away down the river of no return.
Oh absolutely. He no doubt makes millions off royalties but it seems like those millions get spent easily. I believe her store closed and she opened a horse farm/school thing recently.
She started hawking her interior decorating stuff online http://kristenbuckingham.com/kb-textiles/
But her focus has been horses for a while... and she was building a gigantic horse barn outside LA prior to all this.
https://business.facebook.com/qofefarm/
the shop still seems to be open. She's got a slew of people running things for her, and I'm sure they don't work for free, and horse feed is expensive.

Peter Green: 6 albums
Jeremy Spencer: 6 (7) albums
Danny Kirwan: 6 (7) albums
Bob Welch: 5 albums
Lindsey Buckingham: 6 (7) albums
Jeremy Spencer’s first solo album and LBCM are essentially Fleetwood Mac albums, which accounts for the numbers in parentheses.

I’m not much of a math guy, either, but I couldn’t help but notice this stat...
Peter Green: 6 albums
Jeremy Spencer: 6 (7) albums
Danny Kirwan: 6 (7) albums
Bob Welch: 5 albums
Lindsey Buckingham: 6 (7) albums
Jeremy Spencer’s first solo album and LBCM are essentially Fleetwood Mac albums, which accounts for the numbers in parentheses.
So how about Christine? Including SYW, Then Play On, Kiln, and even a few others.

Well, I was just comparing the primary guitarists, but Christine was on all but two albums (PGFM and Blues Jam Session At Chess/In Chicago). She was also not on EP, but my list was just studio albums.

I'd be interested to know what you consider the 6 studio albums are for Peter, Jeremy and Danny. As far as I'm concerned PG only did 3 albums. I'm guessing you are including Blues Jam at Chess and Pious Bird of Good Omen. Cant think what the other one might be.
I don't think they are a fair comparison for Lindsey's contributions; Blues Jam at Chess was recorded 'live' in a weekend and PBOGO was a compilation album. Even PG's Fleetwood Mac was mostly recorded 'live' in a short period of time. This cant be compared to LB's years of studio work.
Also, what's the additional bracketed Danny album?

It would be interesting to add her albums. Official and otherwise. She's been on just about everything studio wise. Including BuckVie..errrrrr the last Fleetwood Mac Album.

My god, finally a post I can cheer. Especially the part about people acting like they were in the room when FM made the decision to fire LB. Totally ridiculous. Thank you for your fair and logical post in the midst of emotional, bordering on paranoid, rants.

I'd like to punch that that Karen right in her piehole. No one in the band should have to listen to her. I hate her far more than $tevie.

I count English Rose and Pious Bird as one album, since there’s an album’s worth of material between the two albums that’s not available on other Fleetwood Mac albums. Given that British and US releases often differed in that era, it’s challenging to come up with definitive lists. I also include Blues Jam Session at Chess and The Original FM. Sure, they were essentially recorded live, but they’re also part of the band’s history and official body of work.
The additional bracket for Danny was Jeremy’s “solo” album, since Mick, John, and Danny were Jeremy’s backing band. Peter was also on the album, but just on one song, which is why I didn’t count it for him.

Neil Finn and Mike Campbell are in a completely different class than the rest of the listed people.
I think it’s too early to tell. And, who said it was going to be another classic lineup? I don’t think anyone, even those of us who are excited about it, believes it could possibly be mentioned in the same breath as the Peter Green or Rumours versions of Fleetwood Mac. There isn’t time for that and the current state of the industry wouldn’t allow for it. Still, it certainly has the potential to be compelling, if not great.

I had to giggle reading this post. With all due respect to Dave Walker, Rick Vito, Bekka Bramlett, and Dave Mason who are fine musicians ... Mike Campbell and Neil Finn are in a whole different musical league than they are.
Mike Campbell is widely considered to be one of the best rock guitarists of all-time. Mike is also a great songwriter having co-written classics such as "Boys of Summer" and many others.
And Neil Finn is widely considered to be one of the best songwriters on the planet having been inducted into the Australian Music Hall of Fame.
Moreover, Campbell and Finn have a long history of being great "team players" elevating their bands to very high levels. They are in a completely different musical stratosphere compared to Walker, Vito, Bramlett, Mason etc.

Neil Young... maybe.
Neil Diamond... maybe.
I think you got your Neils mixed up.

I appreciate you did that for a bit of fun/interest.
I hope you don't think this could be used as a true barometer for comparing the comparative contributions of the different members. The time spent by Lindsey crafting the honed albums can't be compared to the PG era material. Its true the early incarnation had a massive output over a short period of time but much of the material included covers and was recorded extremely quickly. Even a lot of the original material was relatively quickly written standard blues. Its a hard push to sell the Chicago recordings as a full Fleetwood Mac album; they were largely songs written by the other players and (I might be wrong but...) I don't think all of Fleetwood Mac were present for many/any of the tracks. You could also go as far as to count Tusk twice (and perhaps Say You Will too).
