And Neil Finn is widely considered to be one of the best songwriters on the planet having been inducted into the Australian Music Hall of Fame.
Sorry, but LOL!
Moreover, Campbell and Finn have a long history of being great "team players" elevating their bands to very high levels.
According to his own words, the "teamplayer" Mike Campbell managed to stand next to the dying Tom Petty each night without even realizing his failing health! I wouldn't want someone so unheeding and detached in any team.

Sorry, but LOL
I am unsure if you were laughing at the fact he was an inductee into the Australian hall of fame or the part about him being one of the better current songwriters?
Surely, not the first one? Laughing about an artists accomplishments is really pretty harsh and unkind, especially when I am sure you are aware of how difficult it is to get into the American based Hall of Fame. I believe AC/DC is the only Australian band/artist to get inducted and there is incredible music that comes out of Australia so it's understandable that you would establish your own to recognise homebred talent.........and for the record I am not Australian.

AFAIK Germany has none and I'm thankful for that. But I find it quite amusing that everything is tried here to make Neil Finn more than he is, that may be a good musician, but nothing more (or less). There is a reason that it is difficult to get into the Hall, it's exclusive and there are alot musicians in western culture that are not in there.

Wow. This is a really sad (and unnecessarily nasty) comment. How is that nasty? I mean, people point out that Micke Campbell is a good teamplayer. He isn't - due to his own words and - well, Tom Petty IS dead, died from an overdose of pain medication because he toured with a broken hip, while his good friend Mike saw him every day did nothing and shrugged it off in interviews.
Wishful thinking versus facts. I merely point that out.

It's not that I'm making this stuff up.
Here is the article that I quote:
https://wror.com/2017/10/19/heartbreakers-mike-campbell-benmont-tench-open-tom-petty/
Here we go:
Not only did Mike Campbell fail to intervene to help Tom Petty out of his selfdestructive behaviour, he did not even backup the manager:
...And though Dimitriades broached the idea of canceling the tour, telling Tom "You can't tour like that." he says Petty told him, "Why not? I'll do it in a chair if I have do."
Also Mike Campbell:
"He had very severe hip pain and he could hardly walk. I just admired how he just persevered. He didn't want to move the tour; He was gonna address it after the tour, from what I know, and so just seeing him struggling to get on stage, nobody knew once he got on stage. Once he put the guitar on and he kicked in and he did his show, and I don't think anybody had any idea how much pain he was in."
So he knew, saw Tom Petty suffer and did nothing to stop it. I don't even think it was about the money, it's just that Mike consciously put his own interests before Tom Pettys wellbeing.
He just wanted to play, that was the all important thing. And he is open about it:
Guitarist Mike Campbell tells Rolling Stone that, "I'm just so sad to think that I'm not going to play those songs again."
It's not about the friendship, the personal loss of a friend, it is all about playing.
And still some people here try to sell Mike Campbell as more than a guitar player to rent for FM. He just wants to play guitar, obviously without any regard of the circumstances. Nothing wrong with being a bona fide Stage Hog, but let's stop pretending that he has ever been a responsible person or a good, caring friend for Tom Petty. Or that he even wasted one thought on the situation he got himself into, the fans or his predecessor before he jumped into the FM boat.

Also Mike Campbell:
So he knew, saw Tom Petty suffer and still put going on stage every night and get his own kick out of it before PUTTING A STOP on Tom Petty.
And why he is sad:
So it's not about the friend, it is about playing. Best friends - sure
And still some people here try to sell Mike Campbell as more than a guitar player to rent for FM. He just wants to play guitar, responsibility isn't his thing.
You really should stop now.
He may well have been aware of Tom's hip problem- but he'd never in a million years have envisaged the outcome (as an aside- the hip problem probably should have been manageable and only indirectly led onto his death). Just because your bands 'leader' chooses to continue through a tour despite being in pain doesn't mean you aren't a 'team player'. The likelihood is even Campbell himself probably didn't fully know what Petty was going through or what he was taking for it.
You are twisting words to suit your own (strangely twisted) narrative. He's also quoted as saying (at a Dirty Knobs gig);
'And just a moment of reverence for a very spiritual, beautiful person. He was my partner for almost 50 years, we wrote songs we loved each other we played a ****ing million hits together and I’ll never get over losing him. But I’m real happy to be here playing music again, thank you for helping me heal.'
I don't know what your rationale is but I'm forming a picture of what sort of person you are.

Maybe Germany should have their own Hall of Fame. The first inductees could be;
Ammon Duul
Kraftwerk
Boney M
Nena
Milli Vanilli
The Scorpions
Culture Beat

c) You've taken quotes from a short, second hand article that's culled snippets from a larger article. That larger article has itself cut down interviews with 5 or 6 different people and merged them into one larger article. Thus the quotes you've taken are far watered down from the original interview and intended sentiment.
He's a good, honest, talented pro who recently lost a top friend. We might not want him as Fleetwood Mac's guitarist but there's no need to make him out to be a bad person.

Tom needed a hip replacement and was in serious pain but couldn’t get an effective pain killer given his history of heroin addiction. He ultimately died of an overdose. Mike, like everyone else, could see Tom was suffering, but wasn’t qualified to do anything to help (i.e. he’s not a medical professional).

Neil Finn and Mike Campbell are in a completely different class than the rest of the listed people.
Different class? Higher class? Lower class? Who's talking about class? In fact, my point was that individual class of musician is largely irrelevant in any consideration of the rightness of "fit" within a band. Did that point soar over your head, Steve?
I think it’s too early to tell. And, who said it was going to be another classic lineup? I don’t think anyone, even those of us who are excited about it, believes it could possibly be mentioned in the same breath as the Peter Green or Rumours versions of Fleetwood Mac. But that absence of potential is precisely what's frustrating a bunch of Rumours fans—they lost a classic grouping (even past its heyday) and got stuck with a . . . federation of more-or-less interesting individuals. Dave Walker was interesting (I love "The Derelict"), Burnette was interesting, Vito was interesting, Sheryl Crow would have been interesting. But these individual ingredients didn't (or wouldn't) capture the imaginations of generations; they'd have left no lasting mark on the culture. The effects of the 1990 Fleetwood Mac have long since dissipated, and the 1994 Fleetwood Mac never reverberated at all. My point is that the current lineup does not have the potential to make any sort of lasting artistic statement because it isn't anything more than a collection of interesting musicians and songwriters, and that's a sad end to the band.
Still, it certainly has the potential to be compelling, if not great. You may find it so. Many others of course don't. I find the current lineup potentially no more compelling than Coldplay. These are subjective matters; you can't issue a ruling on them.

Yes, but at this stage of the game, I disagree, at least somewhat. Sure, the primary reasons they were brought in is their talents and name recognition to help make up for Lindsey’s absence. However, these guys potentially bring in something else.
There aren’t albums left for this band, so whoever they bring in has to be able to hit the ground running. Lindsey often talks about how Fleetwood Mac lacked any creative leadership during the time between him and Peter Green. I think the same was true between 87-95. While I’m still 50/50 on whether or not there will be new music, IF there is, Finn has been a/the driving force in bands with multiple singers/songwriters and where he primary singer/songwriter, and both he and Campbell have also been producers. They might be able to pull off a great album, even if it’s effectively a one-off.
But that absence of potential is precisely what's frustrating a bunch of Rumours fans—they lost a classic grouping (even past its heyday) and got stuck with a . . . federation of more-or-less interesting individuals.
Remember, I agree that it’s ridiculous that this happened. However, they could have completely blown the federation.
Bramlett, Burnette, Vito, and Walker were glorified side players. Not just in Fleetwood Mac, but throughout their respective careers. Mason was a creative burnout by 1978. Sheryl Crow is a great pop singer with catchy songs, but her music lacks artistic and human depth.
My point is that the current lineup does not have the potential to make any sort of lasting artistic statement because it isn't anything more than a collection of interesting musicians and songwriters, and that's a sad end to the band.
I agree that the current lineup does not have the potential to make any sort of lasting artistic statement, but not for your reasoning. There just isn’t time to develop it into something. The clock has run out for that.
You may find it so. Many others of course don't. I find the current lineup potentially no more compelling than Coldplay. These are subjective matters; you can't issue a ruling on them.
I DON’T find it compelling, just that it has the potential to be. It hasn’t happened, yet. It’s too soon to pass judgment either way.

I guess there's no accounting for tastes. If they don't think the Heartbreakers had anything special, what can you do? The Heartbreakers are one of the great American bands. Their sound from their heyday with Ron Blair and Stan Lynch was enormously satisfying and influential; they got ripped off by dozens of other American rock bands (John Mellencamp, anyone?). They were tight, sinewy, tough, in-the-pocket musicians. They invented their slinky style and they played that style better than anyone else. Blair, Lynch, Tench, Campbell, Petty . . . what's not to like and admire? Have the naysayers played "Refugee" or "What Are You Doing In My Life?" recently? The Heartbreakers laid down classic tracks like these over and over and over. They're the Mt. Olympus of American rock (with a few other bands).

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers are one of the greatest American rock bands to emerge in the last 50 years no question. Tom Petty is easily the only band that I can say truly got better with age. Many bands say that about themselves and a lot of fans of certain bands (including this band) and while many are/or have made great music in their later years, All of my favorite stuff by atom Petty is primarily 1993 to his death. And of courses there’s some amazing stuff in the first 20 years. And the live versions of old songs just kept getting better. Tom Petty’s Sirius station is the thing I’ve listened to most in the past 3 years (equal amounts befor and after his death) it’s never ending perfection. It’s also only 75 percent his stuff. The other 25 percent is like the Fleetwood Mac station’s in every way except Tom Petty’s introduces you to incredible unknown new artists and forgotten songs that inspired him, and they’re always very good. Tom Petty was not only great himself, he had an incredible ear for other music. So the exact opposite of the “influences” the FM station played.

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers were an incredible band with literally dozens of incredible songs especially if you also include TP's solo albums. I find that a ton of folks only know the "hits" and don't know how many phenomenal "deep cut" songs there are. I still remember doing my first Tom Petty deep dive and being astounded by how many great songs I kept finding. "Walls" is just one example I can think of of a world class song by a world class songwriter. What a masterful song. And, of course, there's the Wildflowers album which stands as one of the greatest albums of all-time; a true masterpiece. And, of course, there is their live version of "Oh Well" which has got to be the best version of the song ever recorded ... TP and The Heartbreakers were a world-class band led by a world-class songwriter.

Wow. What a NASTY thing to say.

David, that was perfectly said!
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers ARE one of the best American bands.
Their longevity was amazing.
And their music went far beyond the hit singles(of which they had many).
In concert, they took the music to another level.
A terrific and iconic band.

Ironically Walls is a song that Lindsey worked on with Tom.
The vocal arrangement on Walls is killer. I love that song.

Maybe, but still not untrue.
Kindness is still overrated here.

Still not untrue........
My roommate died from oxycodone.
So did my brother.
Nobody knew the extent of the abuse until it was too late.
Nobody stood by and let it happen.
You cannot blame people for another person's OD.
It's cruel and each situation is unique as to how it unfolds.
It's ugly, horrible and sad.
Horribly sad.

Sorry for your loss. And everybody here understands what you're saying about the pointlessness of blaming others. The poster in question is apparently so upset that a millionaire was fired from a band that he's determined to try and make everyone else as miserable as he is, that's all.

Interesting that some of the people posting THE most negative comments here about the band are MIA on the Lindsey forum…
I guess being an artificially pissed off troll is more important than actually supporting an artist. Yeah, I’m excited about the new lineup, but I’m also excited about Lindsey’s tour, and have tickets for both.

And the band isn’t dead (the Jimi Hendrix Experience is dead).
The book on Fleetwood Mac has been written. This isn’t a new chapter, just the postscript, the length of which is still to be determined.

Not all of us need to advertise all the Lindsey’s shows we are attending.

It would be more interesting than CONSTANTLY reading about what show you’re not going to, if not show a little ACTUAL solidarity with Lindsey.

Oxycodone is one hell of a drug. Prince died of it, too, like countless other people with prescriptions. I don't blame MC for TPs overdose. I blame him for being a bystander in a situation that got worse and worse. He could have staged an intervention, not because of the prescription drugs, but because of the broken hip, the fact that TP was unable to walk, in great pain and obviously irrational about it. I don't think that he (or anyone else) knew exactly what was going on with the painkillers. But still, he saw TP suffering every day and did nothing to put a stop on it.

I take it that you still want to sell that he is eligible for sainthood, even if HE is available for rent, seemingly still not having enough money.

That's a pretty cold response. "One hell of a drug."
Prince didn't die of Oxycodone, btw. He died of a Fentanyl OD, which is a synthetic opioid up to 50 times more powerful than heroin.

Nobody could put a stop to it.
At the time of the tour, Tom thought he had a fractured hip.
Doctors said after the tour, the hip had become a broken hip.
Everybody from his family, friends, and co-workers knew he had a fracture, but were not aware the extent of how it was progressing.
If doctors, his family and co-workers couldn't convince Tom to stop the tour, either could Mike.
You will continue to say "Still not untrue," because your interpretation of articles you copied and pasted are the only ways to interpret those articles.
The lengths you are going to disprove of Mike's joining Fleetwood Mac is disturbing, and indeed a fixation.
And you don't care how callous or cruel your words are to others, or how nasty it sounds.
Because, as you stated, "Kindness is still overrated here," right?
Well, good for you.

I've just had it with the "clutching the pearls" fake consternation on this board. You say the most outrageous things here all the time, much as anyone else. So gmafb with this political correctness when it suits your agenda.
And honestly, what difference would me writing "Sorry for your loss" have made for you? You see...

I don't have an agenda.
I don't want Mike Campbell to join Fleetwood Mac.
They should disband.
But it isn't the end of the world.
Certainly not a reason to blame a death on somebody.
You are a nasty, jaded and mean person.
