After sleeping on it and a couple more listens this morning, I've gotten over the fact "In My World" is not what I hoped for, accepted it for what it is and can appreciate it on that level a little more. I don't think the song is so much directed at Stevie. They have sung at and about each other before, this is something different. This is Lindsey getting inside her head concerning her ambivalence toward Fleetwood Mac versus her solo career.

The verses represent FM - the solid foundation from Mick and John with Lindsey's irritating and dissonant guitar on top that does not change or resolve melodically. The chorus is obviously representative of her solo career - in my world everything is hunky dory - but Lindsey can't help but give his opinion by locking her thoughts in an echo chamber.

Lindsey believes friction is vital to FM's creativity and Stevie does not. The "love grunts" are actually giving voice to the push/pull tug of war between them.

I bet this is one of the songs that Lindsey wrote for Stevie to sing around the time of the EP. I could also see her - understandably - refusing to sing it and give him the perverse thrill of him hearing her sing what he thinks is going on in her head. It reinforces her resolve to not work creatively with Lindsey. His response is to release the song as a single, duet album be damned.

Or I could be reading way to much into it...

Beautiful reading.

Come Out to Play by Christine McVie?

Is this a song I missed somehow? Is this a new song? Anyone know?

So disappointed. It took three years to release this? What kind of alternate universe are we in, and how do we get out? It's as bad as the songs from the 'This is 40' soundtrack. I don't understand this at all.

Brother and Sister from the This is 40 soundtrack is PURE GENIUS!

I think that's the part I dislike the most. It does sound very current. Maybe I'm in the minority but I love when a song sounds "dated". That's why I primarily listen to classic rock. I can appreciate Lindsey going for an updated sound, it's just not really my cup of tea.

Makes sense.
I love the old classic sound of Fleetwood Mac from 75 to 77, but with Tusk I think I started to always expected something new and innovative after that.
Had they stayed the same, I'm not sure they would still be a productive band today.
So anytime Lindsey brings something new to an album, I'm all for it. He's the only one in the band who has never gotten stale.

Let's remember that "Do You Miss Me" was probably the lamest song on GOS and it was chosen as the single. Even Lindsey made comments on tour about being slightly stumped by the decision for that song to be a single.

I doubt this is officially the single, more like a teaser until the real promotion kicks in. I like it, anyone can spot that rhythm section a mile away. Classic drum fills.

Absolutely. Nobody hit the panic button just yet. "Did You Miss Me" wasn't indicative of the overall quality of GOS (in my opinion). Even Christine released "You Are" for In the Meantime first, and the superior "Friend" was second.

I don't think this is great or terrible. It seems pretty average. The choices made re vocals when it comes to Lindsey tend to irritate me more than please...so...there's that. I would love to hear some more Christine and I think it's fair to say that a lot of people feel that way. Bring on the Chris! This would've been a very obvious add to 'EP' had it become an album. I'll wait for the next single.

And about 'You Are,' some of the lyrics were a little twee, but it was better than 'In My World.'

I actually like the song, but the chorus is messed up. He might as well just have Siri "sing" on it, if that is the result he favors.

And what are the lyrics? Bless my soul, left without a pearl???

But I actually will be singing this thing to myself all day and night. I like it, but I would rather hear both of them on a song, if we have to have a single.

I'm not quite sure of what to make of the use of the Big Love carnal grunts.

Either;

a) He's paying a homage to Tango In The Night since it's 30 years since that album was released. Much has been made of this Lindsey/Chris collaboration being like an extension of their Tango In The Night work together. Perhaps he's just playing on that and using those sounds is a tool for tying the albums together.

b) Its some sort of dig at Stevie- I'm not sure exactly how or what though. At the time people assumed the oh ah oh sounds were Lindsey and Stevie. Possibly the intention is to deliberately get people to now question whether the sounds are Christine.

c) It's not so much intended as a dig at Stevie, more a tribute. People have said the lyrics are definitely about her. Overall, I personally find the tone of the song to be quite sad and mournful. Maybe he thinks by adding the grunts it's an extra nod to Stevie to let her know he's singing about her.

d) He just really likes those sounds and he's running out of ideas. Perhaps he just thinks by adding them it gives a bit of a talking point.

e) None of the above.

Overall I'm worried its a retrospective step. Using sounds from 30 year old music almost turns it into some sort of self parody. I do hope we don't hear too many familiar old sounds/riffs/motifs throughout the album.

This is NEW music. Unlike Stevie, who has been imitating herself and rehashing herself for 30 years, Lindsey and Chris created something different

I have a feeling the new album is going to be as Off-putting as Tusk. Christine described it as unexpected and that is what the 1st single is.

P.S. Christine didn't have any great radio singles from Tusk but she did have a lot of great atmospheric songs.

This sounds exactly like Did You Miss Me with a much better rhythm section! very much rehashing. AND he re used the big love grunts.

It's a good song. Like others I'm extremely disappointed there's no christine prescience. They just should of went with one of the songs first. She's who I wanted to hear a new song from. I was anticipating something world Turing like and got did you miss me instead

Now I'm not passing any judgement on the album yet. Did you miss me was one of only 3 songs on gift of screws that I didn't love so I'm not at all deterred by a mildly disappointing teaser.

The verse lyrics are a juvenile string of hackneyed phrases strung together quite incoherently.

Apologies ahead of time to JBrownsJr and to David, but do you know who dances, spins, dreams and sings in his world? No, seriously do you? This is not a stretch my friends.

I agree, Hawkeye. I was also expecting something like 'World Turning' / 'You Make Loving Fun' / 'Don't Stop' / 'Hold Me'. Even 'Sad Angel' had Stevie in the background, but no Chris here. Where is the classic harmony? Where is the classic guitar work? Christine has said her music on this new album sounds like stuff from the '70's. Still trying to be open-minded, and still listening to 'In My World'. Sounds like a Lindsey solo song; not Fleetwood Mac, not Buckingham McVie, and not anything new and creative. I love this band, just not sure what to make of this. Sigh.

The song is very Lindsey.

I don't hear Christine at all, but as a whole the repetitive da da da guitar part during the verses is reminiscent of Straight Back to me, the percussion reminds me of Dreams, and the production is soo Say You Will to me. I'm not sure if I like it.

Lindsey's overproduced voice annoys me. For all his talk of organic this and organic that, I wish Lindsey's songs sounded a little more organic!

Overall, the chorus is catchy, but I'm not a huge Lindsey fan so this release is disappointing to me. Would love some semblance of a duet with Christine and I reeeeally miss the whole band including Stevie.

Argh about varispeed, I really really hoped he'd grow out of that. Hate that he didn't and that Christine didn't make him stop with that. Also dislike possible similarity to DYMM, that song sounded like cheap pop formula to me... I really hope the parts of it reminds you of are not the parts I strongly dislike- such as DYMM chorus. This is not promising I was hoping for something more like sad angel or that's the way love goes, musically.
Thanks so much for all the early reviews guys!

4) My car apparently thinks this is a Lindsey solo song. Typically my car pulls an album cover and song information when I'm listening to HD radio, satellite radio, or streaming through Spotify like I was in this instance. Not only did my car get the artist wrong, it also pulled this random picture of Lindsey up instead of the album cover. Bizarre.

this is 40 songs are ok, just half finished. this is just boring and blah. and - blasphemy! Sad Angel and Miss Fantasy are so gorgeous compared to this. so LB recorded 8 songs with Mick and John in 2012. this is the 4th we heard now, and by far the worst. let's hope the other 4 are more like the first 3. and let's hope that 5 he worked on with Christine, while poppy, are still interesting and not like this one.

but you are right - while i might not enjoy this live if they do it, i'm still incredibly excited to see the 2 of them live together and hear whatever songs they decide to play, as long as it clocks on about 2 hrs +. i'll complain once i see the setlist, i'm sure! :p:angel:

I don't know why people keep alluding to Stevie declining due to music quality. That's almost certainly not one of the reasons she declined. Music is subjective and Lindsey and Christine seem fine with the song, they put it on their album after all and allowed it to be the first single. I doubt Stevie would have objected.

Oh, I was just teasing. I don't expect it to sound like Trouble. In fact, because Christine is there to give his edgier songs balance with her own contributions, I do not want him to be too poppy at all.

My favourite Lindsey stuff is the less poppy things, sure. DYMM is very good but still my least favourite from GOS (tied with Treason). But I do love the poppy stuff (LRD, Underground,TRPTF) as well. IMW fits right in them with them in terms of quality, though it has a new mood that wasn't on there.

If we are lucky we'll get 1 song like that. I would put money on there being no Murrows or Red Rovers here. My expectation has always been that this will be Lindsey doing his best to be Pop-Lindsey while retaining his sense of doing something new sonically. In My World succeeds on those terms.

First Single From Pair’s Upcoming Duets Album

So we’re still a little bummed about the very real possibility that Fleetwood Mac are finished making albums, but on the bright side we’ve got Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham, who sucker punched us this morning with their brand new song, “In My World”. The debut single from the pair’s upcoming album, “In My World” marks the first time Lindsey and Christine have worked together since Fleetwood Mac’s 1987 album Tango In The Night, currently celebrating its 30th anniversary with a deluxe reissue, and finds the pair exploring the sonic soundscape we’ve come to know and love from Fleetwood Mac but with one glaring difference: it’s on their terms.

“We were exploring a creative process, and the identity of the project took on a life organically,” Buckingham says in a press release.

“The body of work felt like it was meant to be a duet album. We acknowledged that to each other on many occasions, and said to ourselves, ‘What took us so long?!'”

What NPR calls equal parts ‘whimsy and wistful,’ “In My World” showcases the best that Buckingham-McVie have to offer; rock solid lyrics telling a story about love and loss mixed with a little wishful thinking as Buckingham breathes his way through lines like “In my world, everybody stays/Nobody wishin’ for words they couldn’t say,” highlighted by McVie’s crystalline harmonies and the sweeping guitars and twinkling piano we’ve come to know and love from these two over the years.

The album, simply titled Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie, is due out on June 9th through Atlantic Records, but since that’s just a little too long to wait for fans who have been itching for anything new from the Fleetwood Mac camp, check out “In My World” in the audio below. Enjoy!
Where are Christine's "crystalline harmonies"?

My favourite Lindsey stuff is the less poppy things, sure. DYMM is very good but still my least favourite from GOS (tied with Treason). But I do love the poppy stuff (LRD, Underground,TRPTF) as well. IMW fits right in them with them in terms of quality, though it has a new mood that wasn't on there.
.
i so love it Peestie that we can get your balanced opinions and music expertise thrown into this whole mix when we are discussing all this! see, to my ears even LRD is at least somewhat i guess *weighted* even if i dislike it....but it probably fits with my dislike of this one. but Underground and The Right Place To Fade are exact kind of poppy stuff that i LOVE from Lindsey. i would be jumping through the moon if that was the kind of poppy stuff we are getting on this album.

If we are lucky we'll get 1 song like that. I would put money on there being no Murrows or Red Rovers here. My expectation has always been that this will be Lindsey doing his best to be Pop-Lindsey while retaining his sense of doing something new sonically. In My World succeeds on those terms.
oh i agree. i just want my best pop-Lindsey though, if that's what we can reasonably expect from Fleetwood Macy album. my Sad Angel/Right Place To Fade/Underground/Second Hand News Lindsey. even Miss Fantasy really really grew on me. but that's just my taste in music.

Not exactly duets, as on the first single there is no Christine...

Strange thing about SYW....I bought it from a charity shop and played it in the car on most journeys..
In the end it has become one of my favourite Albums.
But I know what you mean about it, it's your song,my song, etcetc and never any meeting in the middle.

I don't often post very much, but read these threads often. I can't understand how you guys can't love this track! Very Buckingham, once again showing his ability to push things in a new direction. A really cool chorus with a melody unlike anything I've heard from him. Awesome Mcvie Fuzz bass in the intro, great swell guitar parts, and once again the most underrated part of his work, the lyrics. This is track 3 on the album right? In my opinion this was not meant to be a slam dunk single, but a response to Stevie Nicks and her unwillingness to participate in the album.

Lindsey is an artist who pushes, and isn't going to record music to sound like things he has done before, but it will have always have his stamp on it, if it is "his" track. To do this at his age is amazing, and I for one feel lucky to hear new stuff from living legend musicians like him; I think we all should feel this way.

thanks!

Keeping in mind that they co-write 3 of the songs. And Christine's songs are inherently going to feature Lindsey quite a bit because he's the guitarist and producer.

I'm thinking its totally possible that they released this Christine lacking track first to tease, keep interest/anticipation up until they release another single, closer to the release date. I also find it very plausible that the lyrical content is a subtle jab at Stevie, as others have expressed. Really dig this sound, and if this is the weakest of the batch as some are suspecting and hoping is the case, I think we're in for an incredible album.

Yes, yes, yes! I don't mean to label Lindsey as an old person, but many bands the same age as FM release a "new album" that sounds exactly as their previous works. It's a blessing IMO to have this kind of material. I'm gonna wait to see how the rest of the album evolves to say something negative. I'm sure we'll have plenty of Christine in the rest of the songs.

I agree. Given how it falls in the middle of an album side to me it sounds like it...and in context with the rest I believe will make more sense.
Not really a single per se, more just a taste of what's to come, and I really believe the next track is going to be very Christine.

I've been listening more and I'm liking it a little better, but I'm still not loving it. As catchy as the chorus is, I'm not into it. The verses really aren't so bad; I just don't like the over-produced sound on the chorus. I do like the music though just not the vocals so much.

Lindsey's voice sounds very processed on the chorus...much higher than it actually is. It has an Alvin and The Chipmunks vibe going on. Otherwise, I think it's a great song.

OH, I think a lot of us have genuine love the for the track. Most of use are feeling frustrated, however, because Christine is not audibly singing on it, and quite possibly not even playing the keyboards.

I imagine this song was completed before she returned. Okay. But what I, as so many have been bitching about, is that she should have been strongly encouraged to provide harmonies on it. That would have made the song fantastic and would have given credibility to the aim of the overall project. Instead, Lindsey is doing here what he often does: a solo album within the context of a greater band effort. There is no reason for this when you have a world class singer simply sitting there beside you. Stevie sang harmonies on his SYW songs, and on his extended play material. Why no Christine here?!

Is this song really a jab at Stevie for refusing to record with Fleetwood Mac? (I certainly can't tell from the meaningless verses.) And was this one of the songs they presented to her in 2012 to sing along to? If so, then why is anybody surprised she refuses to have any more part in this frankly tiresome drama? Why would anyone in her right mind sing harmonies to a song deliberately mocking herself? It now transpires that for once she has shown some sense and discretion. I used to think that she was being selfish for refusing to record with Fleetwood Mac, but after listening to this undercooked (after 5 years of roasting!) song and reading the comments about its intent, it is crystal clear that it is Lindsey who is being childish and petty and needlessly provocative, and who has an inflated sense of his own position in the scheme of things. Not everyone wants to be "In His World." I wonder if his kids roll their eyes every time he breaks into one of his eternal chain of being speeches :p

I feel like being childish and petty myself and buying 24KG instead of BuckVie on June 9 :blob1: I'd definitely rather to listen to All the Beautiful Worlds than this epitome of churlish and musically vapid smallmindedness. Poor John, I could almost feel the desperation as his bassline tries helplessly to counterpoint and to provide even a smidgen of variety to distract the listener from Lindsey's ping-ping-ping motif repeated over and over as if it were a motif from Die Walkure. But not even the greatest rhythm section can propel a song that has almost nothing going for it.

They had better have a Little Lies Part II there somewhere or BuckVie will tank even worse than Time. Thank goodness it is not going out under the Fleetwood Mac label. Tango is now officially the swan song of the Classic Mac.

Now I wish I could change my screen ID, darn.

At least one person doesn't think I'm just rambling!
The chorus of IMW reminds me of Underground in the way the backing vocals are processed. I love what he does with the vocal layers in both of these tracks. But ultimately it is closer to DYMM than Underground.
Miss Fantasy hasn't grown on me. It's fine. I won't skip it but I won't pick to play it.
I really hope this is your least favourite track from the album and that the rest of it is more to your liking :) Hopefully this one grows on you as well. If not, hopefully all your potential favourites are being saved for his solo album ;)

There seems to be many comments about this new single that state it sounds too much like a Lindsey solo song. Excuse me? Many of these same posters claim Tango and Tusk as their favorite Fleetwood Mac albums. I just don't get it. Lindsey's Tango songs were stripped of any Mac identity but yet they love them. Same with Tusk. Why is this single being treated different? This song on Tango or Tusk would sound so much like Fleetwood Mac. At least it has a real bass line that may be John McVie and Mick on drums. Please explain.

Because Say You Will was two solo albums and after hearing how this was such a collaborative effort, we get a solo song. It's basically all Lindsey. After decade of waiting, bring on Christine. Nobody wants two solo albums masquerading as duets album like Say You Will. And the production doesn't even sound as top notch as Say You Will.

Until I hear the whole album, I can't really judge. I like the song but I wish it were produced differently. I might end up loving the album but I'm not as excited for it.

.......ok so after several listens I really like this track. Lindsey's solo/Mac songs have been blurred so much over the years IMO.I also never think of anything being " two solo albums put together as one" it's just how this band seems to work since Mirage. Can't help but realize how much I missed that rhythm section of Mick and John. They are SO GOOD!!! This song is very catchy and makes me want to hear more of the album. It's a great teaser track!

Tusk is my favourite album, and I also love SYW. Which is why I'm not complaining that this is predominantly a Lindsey track. I've listened to it many times now and it is growing on me, it's moved from "it's ok" to "I like it" not quite a "love it" yet but I'm holding off voting in the othet thread just in case. It has made me a lot more interested in the album than I was previously, so that's a very good thing

Oh please. Like she would have anything creatively to offer to the project. She should of just had some songs written for her like Seven Wonders and went into the studio for a week.

What I meant was that she was well within her rights not to sing harmonies or have anything to do with a song that was written specifically to mock her. Or to record any other song for any album that contains such a song. They are all about 70 years old. If she wants to spend the rest of her life without having to deal with this then good for her. If I were in her place I'd walk away too, and whatever they may say most others here would do so too.

Of course, I and many others on this board may be incorrect to assume this song is about her. Those lyrics could be about the political landscape or whirling dervishes for all I can tell. Still doesn't change how musically monotonous it is. I read over and over how Lindsey is always trying to push the envelope etc. What precisely about this particular song is proof that he is capable of doing so? Is there anything earthshattering or musically innovative about this song? The excessively processed vocals in which Lindsey seems to suggest that harmonies in a chorus should be sung before, after, but never on the beat? Or that some of his disembodied voices in the choruses seem to be piped in from another dimension? Is that what makes Lindsey the most underrated musician etc.? I hope not.

I loved his work on Tango and the original GOS because I can hear him work. Every note on the best songs on those albums is written, or more exactly composed, to perfection. That is craftsmanship. You can't budge one note without ruining the song. But In My World has none of those qualities, just a ping-ping-ping over and over while Mick or somebody makes weird percussion noises and John busily tries to fill in the spaces left by the inadequate musical line. Is that proper musical arrangement? I'd rather listen to disco then!

Madness Fades above said this much better than I can. The most honest review and musical analysis of the song I've read anywhere.

I can totally understand Stevie not wanting to work on an album with Lindsey, given their dynamic. She needs to be doing what makes her happy.

The only solo album I liked from Lindsay was "Out of the cradle." The entire album. I liked "Trouble," from "Law and Order," and "Go Insane," the title track was decent. Loved the two songs from the "Vacation" soundtrack as well. But I didn't like his solo music after "Cradle" at all, including this new song.
I liked his stuff on "SYW" except for "Come."

People seem to be saying the lyrics to this song are a dig at Stevie.
I don't buy it, personally. The overall tone of this song is that of loss and sadness. It might well be about her, but I'd be more inclined to think the message is 'farewell, its sad you are no longer with us'. He also tells the person he's addressing they have a heart of gold. That's hardly a dig, is it?

Also, though they put this song together several years ago, there's very possibility the vocals were re-recorded with new lyrics. That wouldn't have been difficult for Lindsey to do at any time.

That's hardly a dig, is it?

Yes on the last few listens I didn't hear the chorus as a dig at Stevie, and the verses have some very sweet sentiments. I love the "farewell heart of gold" and "farewell liberty" lines

found on the web...

Song Lyrics:
Fare...farewell heart of gold.
Maybe we're lost without the cost
of stories that we told.

(Chorus) In my world everybody stays,
nobody wishes for words they couldn't say
Bless my soul, let the night unfurl
dancing, spinning, dreaming, singing in my world.

Fare...farewell liberty.
Maybe we're lost without the cost
of who we used to be.

Chorus X 2

Lay...lay down, fall about.
Take your time to cross the line,
all without a doubt.

Chorus X 3

Lindsey's voice sounds very processed on the chorus...much higher than it actually is. It has an Alvin and The Chipmunks vibe going on. Otherwise, I think it's a great song.

I think that's Christine and Lindsey.

Yes yes!! and Christine is on it. She's just blended with LB voice. Kind of like.. I believe I believe, I need a little time...

I get your enthusiasm. It's mine, too! But if she is singing on it, and I don't think she is, then her vocal should have been prominent. Even some background oohs and ahs, that thick, choral-like effect you hear on YMLF and Heroes are Hard to Find. Something audible and substantial!

I'm not saying In My World is brilliant or anything, but to suggest Stevie would elevate this project is a stretch at best. There were a couple of good songs on 24K, but the rest of it was drivel. "Starshine, you used to be silver, you used to make me shiver." Really? I could take or leave most of her SYW material. Most of what she's put out recently that was any good was written 30 years ago.

I would put money on there's being no Murrows or Red Rovers here. My expectation has always been that this will be Lindsey doing his best to be Pop-Lindsey while retaining his sense of doing something new sonically. In My World succeeds on those terms.

Yeah, it's not going to bump I'm So Afraid or Red Rover off Christy's Favorite Songs in the Universe list, but it's a light, easy, breezy song. It's pleasant with some nice melodies and rhythm work. I much prefer this to DYMM. I can't stand most of his This is 40 songs either.

This is a one-time venture, it's not solo and it's not FM. Take all of this for what it is.... BuckVie. 😀

Why aren't Behind the Mask, Time and Say You Will Fleetwood Mac albums?
Tango was the last FM album with the classic line-up. I was talking about Stevie so I didn't see the need to clarify.

I'm not going out on a limb to say whether Stevie's vocals would have helped this boring song out or not.
But people slamming "24K" here is really not the subject. I enjoyed the hell out of that album and it got critical raves, for the most part. At Metacritic, the album has received a Metascore of 73 out of 100 based on 11 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews."

But that's besides the point.
We are discussing the new song, and bottom line is, it isn't very good IMO.

I liked his stuff on "SYW" except for "Come."
yeah we all have different tastes. i think Seeds and Screws are his best solo albums by far, better than Cradle. but Screws is uneven because it has a mixture of his 90s and 2000s stuff, it's actually 2 LB solo albums smashed into one. Seeds is perfect. all kinds of styles in a cohesive album.

i am a bit surprised how you can love Lindsey's stuff on Say You Will but not Gift of Screws? it's the same batch of songs! and a lot on Seeds is just a natural progression from GOS/SYW stuff. of course, if you don't like Come... then . it goes seamlessly with his other SYW stuff. (unless you like What's the World? i can't stand that one.)

Also, though they put this song together several years ago, there's very possibility the vocals were re-recorded with new lyrics. That wouldn't have been difficult for Lindsey to do at any time.
yeah, actually, i was wondering about that too. whether they rerecorded some of the lyrics to suit current band situation. especially since people who know much better than me are very sure that both LB and Christine sing blended in the chorus.

I think the song IS about Stevie and I don't think it's a dig. In fact, I think it is more charitable and wistful than I would expect about her, considering. There is affection and loss in the dancing, spinning, dreaming , singing.

As for having the time to re-record lyrics, considering Twist of Fate and Right Place to Fade, I don't think that would be a priority. Michele

If this song is about Stevie (and if it isn't, then Lindsey is teasing us by using lyrics he very well knows point to her), then I'm with those who find it wistful, not mocking.

I'm also with those who doubt Stevie ever listened to this song, much less let it deter her from working on a Fleetwood Mac project. However, even she did listen to the song, why would she be affronted? She loves it when Lindsey sings about her. It means she still means something to him and that he still thinks about her. After all, he's not still writing about Carol Ann...

As for my opinion of the song... I also am dismayed that it is not more "organic." I feared this would be the case - Lindsey is so enamored of his little gadgets and voice manipulators - he can't leave them alone. He has a woman working with him with a lovely voice, but he'd rather speed up his own and harmonize with himself (if Christine is there, she's buried). Plus, just as I couldn't stand the fake female "love grunts" in "Big Love", I can't stand them here. Happily, there are far fewer of them.

Please Lindsey, just give me a strong melody, your natural voice with Christine harmonizing, and some of your magnificent guitar playing... that's all I ask.

Still, I don't hate "In My World". The chorus is catchy and I like the sprightly guitar. Perhaps my expectations were unreasonably high after all the hype.

We know at least one song on the album isn't like this: "Sleeping Around the Corner." I love that one and if the rest of the songs are more like that, then I know I will really enjoy the album.

Some reviewers have expressed surprise also that the first single off 'Buckingham McVie' is a Lindsey track rather than a co-write/co-sung.

That being said, I like the song. I don't think it's likely the strongest track on the album. Maybe this is something of a "soft rollout" as they say....saving the bigger singles for releases #2 and #3?

I've said this before but I basically think this has been the case for a lot of his stuff since OOTC. He loves his studio tricks so much it's all jumbled in his head and he has all these sounds going on. He still has a strong sense of melody and way with arrangement but he needs someone/something/someway to tone that production down.

Heard this on Graham Norton (Radio 2) today, cut off from the internet.

God I love this song. The descending chords in the chorus with the major sevenths at the end - beautiful, and so nostalgic - and that's the message of the song to me, Lindsey's looking back on what's happened and trying to create a new world where the wrong's turn to rights. The lyrics are very attacking of Stevie I think, saying "farewell" to her, and "in my world, everybody stays", that they don't need her (too right!). I love the percussion as well. With that and the acoustic guitar it's very "Say You Will" esque. It's so Fleetwood Mac with Mick and John APART from

Where are the harmonies? A lead single on a "duet" album and it's essentially a Lindsey solo track. Eh? Makes me thing his dominating personality hasn't completely gone away if he managed to get this out as the lead single. Why can't the verse harmonies be Christine, and not Lindsey?

But I don't care about that too much! It's new music, and it's beautiful. Can't wait for the album.

Elle, can you tell me where I can find the solo version of Sleeping Around the Corner? I punched it into YouTube but it didn't come up.

Now, I was disappointed on my first listen to In My World, mainly because this is a duet album and the first song they release is clearly not a duet and doesn't have any contribution from Christine whatsoever, apart from maybe some not at all prominent keys.

However, after several listens it has grown on me. I now find it really catchy. Beats the **** out of ...I was going to say Miss Fantasy...but on second thought, In My World is about on par with Sad Angel and Miss Fantasy - both of which I enjoy.

Listen: Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie release "In My World"
The legendary rockers give the world a taste of what's next for Fleetwood Mac

With the announcement of Fleetwood Mac's headlining slot in the upcoming Classic East and Classic West festival, it comes as no surprise that two of the legendary band's members have new material.

Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham released "In My World" a few days ago. The breathy, wistful new tune serves as the first single off their upcoming LP Lindsey Buckingham/Christine McVie. The last time McVie and Buckingham worked together on a full-length release was back in 1987 for Tango in the Night, but whispers of Buckingham/McVie have been going around since 2014, when Fleetwood Mac began recording what was to be a new Fleetwood Mac Record. After Stevie Nicks opted to tour for her own solo effort, 24-Karat Gold: Songs From The Vault24-Karat Gold: Songs From The Vault, recording continued without her.

"In My World" gives us perhaps the only taste of what might have been a new Fleetwood Mac record, with namesake drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie contributing to the album's rhythm section. Without Nicks' larger-than-life personality at the helm, the mood is entirely different, but loses none of the sonic poetics that have made Fleetwood Mac the band they are. The two play off each other's strengths as the subdued pillars of the band, and as vocalists in their own right. Buckingham sings "In my world/ Everybody stays/ Nobody wishing for words they didn't say," and the whispery delivery brings back echoes of "Big Love." Even without the aid of Nicks, these two astronomical personalities can more than hold their ground.

The new LP's track list includes "Sleeping Around the Corner," which Buckingham included in his 2011 solo effort Seeds We Sow. If "In My World" is any indication, we can expect a tunes akin to Rumours, albeit without Nicks' gold dust woman at the helm. For fans of pre-Nicks Mac, this is a refresher course; for die-hard Stevie fans, brush up on the old and, stay open to new material from the Mac.

Lindsey Buckingham/ Christine McVie is slated for a June 9th release. Pre-order here.

Track List

1. "Sleeping Around the Corner"

2. "Feel About You"

3. "In My World"

4. "Red Sun"

5. "Love Is Here To Stay"

6. "Too Far Gone"

7. "Lay Down for Free"

8. "Game of Pretend"

9. "On With the Show"

10. "Carnival Begin"

a not so glowing review from Paste magazine of the new single, they call the single awkward

Listen to Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie's New Single, "In My World"
By E.C. Flamming | April 14, 2017 | 4:20pm

For two legendary musicians who boast such talent and natural chemistry, we’re a bit flummoxed as to why this first single sounds so awkward. The melodies are lovely, making for some serious ear-worm material, and the twang-twang-twang of the guitar is vaguely reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac’s signature style, but something is just a bit … off. There’s a weird reverb going on as Buckingham sings, “In my world / Everybody stays / Nobody wishing for words they couldn’t say,” that feels artificial and unnecessary. We looked up the producer, hoping to find someone to blame for this, only to find that the producer is Buckingham himself.

Judging from the YouTube comments section, a lot of people actually really like “In My World,” so perhaps we’re getting ahead of ourselves. After all, it’s only the first single, and there’s no way we’re not giving the forthcoming album the benefit of the doubt. The album, simply titled LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM/CHRISTINE McVIE, will also feature Fleetwood Mac members Mick Fleetwood and John McVie as the rhythm section. The 10-track album is set to drop on June 9 via Atlantic Records. It will be followed by a short summer tour throughout North America, with tickets currently on sale here. You can learn more about the album here, and watch Paste Cloud video of Fleetwood Mac performing in 1975 at Capitol Theatre below, beneath “In My World.”

Hi, I haven't posted in a long time. But, I thought I would share what I thought about In My World.
It has a blend of sounds, some drawn from the past: there is a very cool initial "clanging" sound that to me sounds like a higher pitched version of the drums in Ricky; the whole song has a musicality that to me is reminiscent of the Tango in the Night album. I think the "oh ah oh"s sound like small snippets of the "oh ah uh ah oh ah uh"s in the bridge of the song "Tango in the Night", more so than the love grunts at the end of Big Love.
But, Lindsey's whisper voice he is using of late is ever-present here and I agree with those who have said it also sounds like Did You Miss Me. Do y'all know if he is using the whisper voice because he likes it, or because he is losing his stronger vocal sounds?

Wow, elle, I know how much you wanted new music, so I'm hoping the rest of the album is more pleasing to you!

I actually love the song. It's very catchy. I am just REALLY annoyed that Christine isn't singing or even probably playing on it. (And no, her voice has not been mixed down or altered--she's just not on it.) How much effort would it have taken to layer her vocals into the chorus? And doing so would have made a very good song even more compelling! The fact that she wasn't tells me LB is being his by-now typically isolated, unbendable self. Like I said, the song is very good. But can I believe any of the duo's comments about their magical collaboration when he doesn't invite her to appear on the LEAD SINGLE?!

I'm sure it wasn't written as a "lead single" nor was it necessarily up to him which song was chosen.

That's a good point. Still, whether it was meant to be an album track or lead single, Christine should be on it. And she should be on it in a prominent way. And the fact that this is being touted as a collaboration necessitates this.

After repeated listenings, I've figured out what it is that I don't like about In My World. It's that repetitive triple guitar strum that's at the end of every single line of the verses. As far as I can tell, it's the same chord EVERY SINGLE STRUM, which means you hear it twelve times in each verse. And that ends up overwhelming the rest of the song; it's the only thing you remember after the song's over. And even that wouldn't be so bad -- every pop song needs a hook, after all -- but it's not even a pleasant-sounding chord: it's a group of notes that, strummed together, sound "unfinished." (I'm sure there's a technial term for this, but I'm not a musician.) It seems like a small thing, but for me it turns the song from a decent but unspectacular pop song to an annoying-sounding mess that I'm sorta glad when it ends.

My hope is that the label only chose this as the single because the lyrics might be interpreted as being about Stevie, playing into the drama that some people find appealing. In any case, I've been waiting for this album for years and I hope I like the other songs better.

I agree that the song is highly repetitive, but I seriously doubt that the record label is "playing into the drama".

What you're referring to is dissonance.. or clashing notes. And this too is what irritates me so much about this as well. When done tastefully, it can sound interesting - pretty even. But this gets on my last nerve!

As a 21 year ledgie....Let me say Christ on a Stick people, do you all way over analyze, emote, and complain. 70 year old musicians are creating new music. Be happy your favorite group not only is upright but some of its members are capable of actually making new, well crafted pop songs. It is a catchy, fun melody, with some pointed lyrics. Enjoy. You all are not going to get too much more new music from these folks.

The song to me is typical Lindsey. Tight and creative production, with something new in every listen, really interesting. However, the song itself is a poor wisp of a thing, very simple repetitive melody and ho-hum lyrics. I never like his vocals, but would have given him a break on this if it had Chris and Stevie strongly blended into some lush harmonies. The album looks to me to be a SYW type of deal, with half Lindsey songs (mostly either annoying or dreary) with a scrap of Chris thrown in here and there, and half Chris songs, gorgeously produced by Lindsey. Let's see. The production here makes me curious.

Okay, I'm not a musician, but isn't that lead instrument a keyboard? I hear a keyboard being played, not a guitar being strummed. And definitely at the end of the song some real electric piano comes in. I am ready to be corrected by one of you musicians, but when I first listened to this I thought, hey they are featuring Christine as a musician (not as a vocalist) on the first single.

Except SYW didn't feature any co-writes. So that would make this album more collaborative than that one.

I guess that's entirely possible. One of the things I've always liked about Buckingham's production style is that he seems to enjoy blurring the lines between musical elements: using one instrument to sound like another, or blending voices in a way that's hard to differentiate male from female. (Think of the songs where it takes a couple of listens to know which vocals are Christine's and which are Lindsey's.)

"Brother and Sister" is destined to be the best Lindsey track of the decade.

Maybe I'm the only person who thinks the instrument on "In My World" is a keyboard, and probably I'm wrong about that, but to my ears it is very clear that a piano comes in at 3:44 through the end of the song. Assuming Christine plays the keyboards on this new album, this means she's on the track, even if only a little. She might also be in that echoey vocal mix on the choruses. I agree with those who are wishing she had more of a presence on this first track.

Incidentally, I haven't purchased the track; I have been listening to it on Youtube. I don't suppose the Youtube track and the purchased audio file are any different?

Listen for keyboards during verses stereo right. It's a percussive lick ( a la acoustic 'Friend'). More keys during chorus, again stereo right. Sounds like a synth pad under the guitar-half notes me thinks. Additional piano filigree stereo left on outro. As for vocals I can hear some lower harmony stereo left during verses, or maybe it's the mushrooms!

I'm still in no way convinced Chris is on this. A couple of notes played on a piano here and there doesn't suggest she's playing. In fact, I'd find that to be even worse than her not being on the track at all- the idea that she's on there but barely audible. I'd be downright offended if I was her and that was the case.

I'm a huge Lindsey fan, probably one of those who loves more his solo carrer than his output with the Mac, and well... this song is kinda boring. Lyrics wise nothing to say, but the song itself, well, in my opinion, it's barely an idea. The man is very good at dressing, producing, but when the song it's not there, here we have an empty, well produced, material.
Big Love was the template in terms of cadence and style; chorus is catchy, but it can't save the whole package. Nothing too exciting, at least for me. He could have extended the instrumental passages, or maybe reworked the entire verse structure, but I guess was his choice to go for a -three strums aka sound-

I like the song. I was hoping for something more upbeat and Chris vocals but overall I like it. Not sure I would have picked it for a single. If it was another Think About Me I probably wouldn't be able to sleep. When FM added that song towards the end of their tour I just wanted to die cause they didn't play it in the US. In My World has a sadness that appeals to me. Now that I've been listening to it for almost a week I start doing the "oh, ah, oh" as soon as it starts. Lindsey hooked me again! I'll have to hear it with the rest of the album to see if I still like it or love it. Might like it less compared to their other songs, idk. Either way it's new and we get a tour.
