Not really. Lindsey likes Christine.
It was released in 1973. 44 years is a lot of dislike. IMO

On one hand, I don't want to record new albums because of money. On the other hand, I'm happy my bandmates are doing it.

Her excuses are SO lame and don't hold any water. LAME! Christine and Lindsey aren't 40 anymore and they ARE in the freaking STUDIO making a record. You just don't want to do it. Say that! You would only have to be there for your 3 songs and put a couple of backing vocals and that's it. The answer to this whole thing is SHE HAS LOST HER WRITING ABILITY. End of story and she basically says it. She knows just handing over old demos would make her look lazy. ARGHHH!:mad::mad::mad:

and in all the time she has been bitching the records almost complete she can tour but to play arenas she needs a to be with someone who can sell out
half the arena for her .... how long before she realizes that ( or someone has the balls to tell her )

Soooooo hoping this is a 'hit'.
Doesn't have to sell loads, just get a lot of attention, critical acclaim and a decent chart placing (come on, its got to be at least top 10).
Then, she'll be changing her mind... 'I think it fitting for Fleetwood Mac to do one last album with all 5 of us'

She's such a liar. Saying in the same article that there won't be a new album because it would take a year to record and then saying she's happy for the others on their new album . . .
Does she not realize how full of crap she is?

I know!! That interview was so wonderful to read. Like old friends from years back. Just bringing their powers together, to give themselves and their fans a gift.
No mention of money, or 20 year olds, or cashgrab tours, or having to work for a year.. she's such an ingrate.

I was also pretty surprised by that interview, I just now read it. I've always considered myself pretty level-headed and not biased in any direction when it comes to how I view these people, but she really rubbed me the wrong way a few times there.
She sounds so....bitter? I don't know what the word is. I wonder if there's something going on with her that's making her so grumpy.

My dream is for this album to actually sell way more than anticipated so Stevie can choke on her words. I also just love how she insinuates this is a band decision to only tour and not record new material. And when has she ever spent a year in the studio with anyone? She also gushes over Christine being inspired and how it will be wonderful but not a peep about Lindsey. If she has that much contempt for him, she needs to leave and stay gone. Let her go play Vegas with Elton and Cher. I have lost a lot of respect for Stevie since Christine's return. She comes off so disingenuous. RIP, Fleetwood Mac.

Stevie Nicks says she does not think Fleetwood Mac will make another album together — because they are “not 40” any more.
The singer, 68, believes the band are more likely to focus on touring and doubts they will ever record a follow-up to 2003’s Say You Will.
She said: “If the five of us were to get together to make a record it would take a year, which is what it always takes us.
"It would be a whole year of recording, then press, then rehearsal, and by the time we got back onto the road, it would be heading towards the second year, and I don’t know whether at this time it’s better for us just to do a big tour.”
Nicks said: “It’s every single penny we make divided by five, so the expense of making a record, which is huge, and then to get back on tour ... we are not 40.
"We have to take that into consideration — how long can we do tours that are three-hour shows? Would you rather spend a year in the studio or get back on the road? I think that the band would choose to tour.”
Nicks, who is focusing on her solo career, is also reluctant to make new music.
She said: “I don’t write as many songs any more because with the internet, the way that kids listen to music, all the streaming, and the fact that if they’re very savvy, if they want to get it and not pay for it, they can.
"It goes against the grain of our whole belief in, ‘You write a song, you record it, and you put it out there and people should buy it’.
"We realise it’s not our world any more and the younger kids don’t look at it like they’re taking from us... we don’t have the impetus to write 20 songs because we know that unless you’re under 20 you’re not going to sell many records.”
She is not involved with the new album by McVie and Buckingham, which is not a Fleetwood Mac record.
She said: “I’m sure it’s going to be great, because Christine is super-inspired. I’m really happy for them.”
On July 9, Nicks will support her old friend Tom Petty with his band The Heartbreakers at Barclaycard Presents British Summer Time in Hyde Park.
She said: “I’m the girl who always wanted to be in his band and he’s always the one who said, ‘No, no girls allowed.’ There’s just no one else I’d rather be on stage with than Tom.”
Where to even begin with this....
First, everything she talks about has to do with money. Remember the good old days when she used to talk about being such a prolific songwriter, how she wrote because she had all these stories to tell, blah blah blah. Now she flat out says her impetus for writing is knowing she can put the song (s) out on the market and sell them. If no one wants to pay for them, screw it. Think of how many of her demos are cult classics and have inspired new generations of artists? Nope. Not the point.
Second, the reason for not making an album? Oh, our old friend, money. Or in this case (again), not enough. You have to split things 5 ways in a band, people. And giving money to those other 4 cuts her share. And she ain't having it any more. Besides, it won't sell anyway (see #1 above).
Third, I love how the new album will be great because CHRISTINE is so inspired. Can't manage to cough up a hairball for Lindsey.
Fourth, there's no one she'd rather be onstage with than Tom. Yet she thinks the best thing for FM to do is go on tour....why, if you'd rather be onstage with Tom? Refer back to #1 and our old pal, MONEY.

Yeah, that is a full-blown mess of a response. She sounds so mercenary it's embarrassing. Streaming is NOT the reason she isn't making new music. She DOESN'T HAVE A SONG LEFT IN HER!
Oh, and there's no one she'd rather be onstage with than Tom Petty? That's a pretty petty dig at her own band.

OK, so it's not a Fleetwood Mac album and it's called BuckinghamMcVie. But isn't every member but Stevie on the upcoming album? I have always been a diehard Stevie fan, but this has really upset me. Who cares if you're not 40 anymore, Doesn't it take less energy to record than to be on stage for 2 hours?
And yes, I have every demo she probably has done, but I also have spent my hard earned money buying everything she has put out and going to every tour she has done. I don't like her basically blaming us for why she doesn't want to do new music. If you don't want to record with Fleetwood Mac, then don't be in Fleetwood Mac. If you just want to tour, like an oldie act, then leave Fleetwood Mac and just tour on your own. I'm surprised the other group members don't force her out, but I believe it is about the money. Stevie brings in fans. It's a disservice to long time fans. Very disappointing.
After giving this some more thought and reading all the posts from the "newer" Fleetwood Mac fans to folks like me that have been following them for years, I believe this album should be a Fleetwood Mac album. 4/5 of the band is on it and Stevie decided to sit this one out period. Put aside all the solo side to this story and the obnoxious bashing aside. When asked why Stevie isn't on it in interviews respond and move on to discuss the music and why this album is being released. This band has 50 years of history with a diverse past. If Mick and John are on it.......its FLEETWOOD MAC!

I think there's been a dynamic shift between Stevie and Lindsey. I think Lindsey has really decided to not engage in any kind of conflict with her. She might not be aware of it, but I wonder if she actually needs that conflict with Lindsey. As she said about the '09 tour, it's not that they didn't get along, they just were not close. I think that friction is a huge part of their closeness, the tug of war.
Based on Lindsey's lack of comment on anything regarding this album and it's delays, I think he's done with the drama. Not worth the trouble, hassle, or causing issues across the rest of the band. He's joked for years about being labeled the troublemaker, I think this time he's not taking the bait and refusing to stir the pot.

3. Buckingham/McVie - because that's their names.

no we probably agree. i don't think he's above passive aggressive throws across the interwebs (think Dancin'!) when something frustrates him.
but i think he would not engage in any yelling or screaming matches in person anymore, and he would try to understand others' motivation for what they are - or are not - doing. if he sees situation is getting heated, he'll remove himself from it.

He has really changed in the way he approaches things. I saw some of it during SYW. He was trying to stand his ground and be polite at the same time. He's the producer and he had a lot of responsibility.

Especially since touring is the main source of income for Mick and John John may have invested enough to live comfortably, but Mick has a well known history of bad business decisions and bankruptcies. Mick and John are best buds, so,I would be shocked if they don't tour with Lindsey and Christine.

You know Anything is Possible... but, I really hope you're wrong. I would love to see them tour without Stevie and create an intimate setting not about $$ or fame. Just artistry and their wonderful bond that they share. I'd actually pay a lot of money to see that in a small hall.

Oh I hope you are very very wrong. Bloviated boring arena tour with all 5 and greatest hits same as before, or a completely new lineup doing 6 brand new songs in intimate setting ? There's no competition there - like John said, I'd be willing to pay tons more for new over tired old.

The consensus on these pages seems to be that Christine and Lindsey are happy to be creating new music, and that making big money is not their only motive. There are also many references on these pages to Mick's supposed greed and/or bad financial management, with the inference being that he would be hesitant to tour with Buckingham/McVie (the four piece) since it would be less remunerative than touring as Fleetwood Mac (the five piece). But he happily tours with his blues band, and they don't play mega-venues, and I'm sure his paycheck from those gigs is much smaller than when Fleetwood Mac tours.
My point is that Mick, too, is motivated by love of playing the music, and not just by the money involved. Touring with his blues band stokes his love for the blues. Touring Buckingham/McVie will stoke his love for the NEW music created by his Fleetwood Mac bandmates. He's a working musician. Working musicians WORK -- they record, or they perform, or hopefully they do both. It's not as if an album and tour with Lindsey and Christine would go unnoticed. The album has already garnered a pretty darn sizable amount of attention.

The only thing I want to clarify here, and please don't hate me for saying this because I LOVE MICK but ...
Mick needs a backing drummer these days for heavier, more rocking songs. Also, don't look to Lindsey when you're frustrated with the slow tempo of songs such as "Bleed to Love Her" and "Seven Wonders" - that's Mick that needs the slow down and starts the songs (probably all from his pre-recorded click-track playing in his earpiece) on a much slower tempo. Even "Rhiannon" and other songs have been dragging on recent tours. I love these guys to bits and when I'm talking to casual fans or non-fans, I talk about them still playing like they were in their 20s ... but the truth is, they are not and apart from Lindsey who's a real bomb of energy, they all get tired as the night and the tour it self progresses.
My point being - if you're going to hire a drummer for a tour that is not under the FLEETWOOD Mac moniker, you are not going to hire Mick. You're going to hire a young and technically FLAWLESS drummer that follows orders.
Did you guys know that everything down to the drum solo on "World Turning" is "composed" by Lindsey before the tour starts? That's right, Walfredo wasn't doing his own improvised drum solo on "World Turning", no. He'd received a recording from Lindsey who'd recorded a "composed and written out" solo on electronic pads and said to Walfredo: Here, THIS is your solo. Play it ACCORDINGLY.
You can bet your bottom dollar he can't quite do that with Mick.

I think you are partially correct. Mick needs backup for one sole reason: lindsey uses backingtracks during liveshows. That's the reason why a gut-drummer like Mick needs help, not because he is not able to do it alone. Listen to his awesome drumming on his bluesband recordings. I love Lindsey, but he needs to let go of those backingtracks an let them 'float' again. They always did in the past. Rock and roll.

I've never been to a Lindsey solo show, and I had no idea he uses backing tracks in his live shows. Why does Lindsey feel the need to use backing tracks live? I think that's really unfortunate. Concert goers don't want to hear absolute perfection as if they were listening to the record. We want to hear spontaneous, real music, warts and all.
I hope that a Buckingham/McVie tour would be low key enough that the backing tracks would be dispensed with. I'd much rather see them add one or two musicians/backing vocalists (Brett? Neale?) to round out the sound than use backing tracks.

Because you can't really do GYOW, or I'm So Afraid, or songs like that.
Holiday Road -the chorus was all canned(because of course he can no longer hit those notes).
He should just add a drummer and bass player, and do it 3 piece. With NO tracks!

I don't mean the obvious backingtracks on One Man Show. That was no problem for me. He was alone and needed some extra fill / guidance. I mean backingtracks on Fleetwood Mac songs during big arena tours. Vocal backing mainly and some instrumental parts. When those tracks are on, you don't have much space for mistakes/improvisation. Everything has to be perfect. Mick NEVER was such a drummer so he uses clicktrack or extra drummer for the right perfect beat. Since the Dance.
The only reason I can think of is that Lindsey wanted to let the livesound match more with the audial expectations of the big Public. They want everything to resemble those good old layered studiorecordings.
Somehow, Lindsey seems to believe in that addition of technology, because he does it during small machine too. Also in bandform. I don't like it.
My lap top had to be put to sleep.....so I haven't been keeping up.
But, I am sad at this news, kind of, I mean I'm glad for the two musician/writers that they can at last put some new music out.
But I am sad that Stevie ( and I am not a great Stevie fan) is not on board and this is not a FMC album.
All they had to do was take 3 of her bloody "vault" songs and massage them into wonder. She is not capable of writing new stuff, it's crap about not writing for stuff to be downloaded for free.
I can imagine 3 of her old songs alongside some newer stuff.....Oh well!

I've never seen a Mick Fleetwood Blues Band show, either. For those more informed: does Mick use backing tracks and/or a second drummer in those blues shows?

yeah for One Man Show it made sense and he made it very obvious. i've seen the same with several other performers who also do completely solo shows. also, he did it on just 4 songs during One Man Show, not for all songs.
also agree that it's different with full band shows where backing tracks are more hidden, like it was with Mac. oh well.

^this. Here is an old interview in which Steve Rinkov talks about moving from drum tech to supporting drummer.

On Tuesday, Fleetwood Mac is scheduled to perform the band’s planned tour date in Grand Rapids or wherever. The next stop matters little to Lincoln concertgoers, who saw the show here cut somewhat short on Saturday night. But that wasn’t before the band brought out “Steve” to fill in for an unfortunately ill Mick Fleetwood on “Go Your Own Way.”
Steve performed admirably in Fleetwood’s absence, drawing a “Yay, Steve” from Stevie Nicks at the end of his “big audition,” as she called it. He also got some stray “Steve” chants at the end of the show from fans who perhaps hoped he could lead the band through the rest of the scheduled set. (You can hear concertgoers asking if he could keep playing during a fan recording of “Go Your Own Way” that has over 7,000 views on YouTube already.)
So who’s Steve? Steve is Steve Rinkov, and he’s been a drum tech with Fleetwood Mac for over a decade. He's also worked with Lenny Kravitz and Pearl Jam, to name a few. In 2004, Rinkov did an interview with Cheryl Ferguson on a public radio program about careers, “The Recruiter’s Studio” where he talked about inadvertently landing a drum tech job, and then a performing role with Fleetwood Mac. During Rinkov’s conversation with Ferguson, he also gave some insight into why he might not have been able to cruise through the band’s catalog on command this Saturday.
“You’re not there to play the instruments,” he told her, referring to band rehearsals. “Nobody wants to hear it.”
So the technicians aren’t forming Fleetwood cover bands when Mick, Christine, Lindsey, Stevie and John take tea breaks. But that doesn't mean Steve can't play some Mac. He backed Fleetwood on some songs during the show at the Pinnacle Bank Arena, as he has for years. And Rinkov told Ferguson that he was not nervous, but excited, those first times he joined the band on stage. Here's what Rinkov had to tell her about going from a drum tech to playing with the band years before he sat in for Mick at the head kit during the Lincoln show. (Here's the entire interview.)
“I was minding my business, I swear," Rinkov said. "I was just minding my business. Because you learn early on, you learn early-early on -- and if you don’t already know, someone will not be shy about telling you -- you’re not there to play. You’re not there to play the instruments. Nobody wants to hear it. Nobody wants to hear it.
"Our rehearsal days, the band would show up at, you know, noon to two o’clock in the afternoon and in some cases I’d be working with Mick, and the sound crew would have to be there until one o’clock in the morning. And the last thing anyone wants to hear is someone else banging away on a drum set or wailing away on a guitar when they’re just really not supposed to.
"In rehearsals one day, I swear I was minding my own business and we had done one small show for a group of Best Buy retail executives. And it was just 10 days into rehearsal that we’d done that show. And I think that’s when Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood heard me play drums. Because they walked in when we were soundchecking.
"About a week-and-a-half, two weeks later, they were rehearsing a song from the new album, from the 'Say You Will' album. And on that song, there are two drum parts that were recorded separately. And out of the corner of my ear, I swear I heard, what I had to question -- did I really hear it or not? -- I heard Lindsey say, ‘Well maybe Steve can just play that part.’
"And I’m typing away on my computer and I’m looking up and I’m thinking: ‘No. Back to work.’ And Mick looks over his shoulder and goes, 'Have we got any drums here?' We had every drum that Mick Fleetwood owned there. So I said, 'Yes we do, as a matter of fact.' And (I) probably was just finishing another word by the time I had the drums all set up and ready to go.
"And so that was it. That was one song. Within literally a couple of days, one song became two songs and two songs became three."
Ferguson then asked Rinkov if he was nervous about getting to play with the band as a backing drummer.
"No, no," he said. "Nervous wasn’t part of it. Excited. It’s a weird thing. Being nervous about playing drums is just something that has never happened to me. It’s never happened to me. The first show of the tour, which was Columbus, Ohio, which is where my father’s from. So my aunt is there. I have cousins there, And I’m at an arena that holds I think like 17,000 people and there isn’t an empty seat in the house. And I was excited. I wasn’t nervous at all. I couldn’t wait to do it and keep doing it. It was a blast."

I appreciate everyone hating the use of backing tracks and extra musicians and I strongly agree with that opinion. I think the problem is he approaches his music through the lens of producer rather than as songwriter or musician. In some interviews over the years, he almost seemed embarrassed by how stripped down and raw the songs were live. He's had moments of being able to reinvent a song (Big Love), but that's rare for him. I don't think it's easy for him to remove himself from the overall production of songs as they appeared on the album.
By contrast, Richard Thompson, who by all accounts has as much affinity for being in the studio as John McVie, has a great ability to strip a song to its core, often just him singing and playing acoustic guitar, without regard to the original production, and the essence of the song remains. I think Lindsey could learn a lot from him.

you know, while you are probably right, there's another difference between Lindsey and Richard Thompson. besides being extremely strong guitarist, Richard Thompson also has a very strong voice, is very comfortable in his own skin and is a great storyteller with dry humor and strong opinions that he readily shares. Lindsey's main strength on stage is his incredible guitar skill, which he accompanies by his singing. but his voice is nowhere near level of someone like Chris Cornell, who can rely almost solely on his voice and just accompany himself on a guitar to carry his one man show.

Besides Richard Thompson, there are plenty of singer/songwriters who perform solo shows, just themselves and guitar and/or keyboards, with occasionally a harmonica. Examples include Graham Parker, Steve Forbert, James McMurtry, Marshall Crenshaw, and the late Warren Zevon. And there are also plenty of musicians who are more in the folk realm who regularly perform solo shows, such as David Lindley, Jill Sobule, Vance Gilbert, and many more. These musicians all have one or more great performing strengths: a great singing voice, fantastic musicianship, wonderful songwriting, funny storytelling.
If playing "naked" without backing tracks works for these musicians, I don't see why Lindsey doesn't give it a try. Does he actually lack self-confidence? Or has he bought into the inaccurate belief that the audiences want the songs to sound just like the record?
If he really wants more sound than he can make by himself, he could have one additional musician (guitar and/or keyboard) who can also sing backup. But backing tracks .... [shudder].

he does the same. his One Man Show tour was completely "naked". we were mostly referring to backing track he/Mac use on the FM shows, and i believe also his solo shows with the band. unlike many other solo acoustic shows, he didn't have anybody to accompany him, on any songs (many have cello or keys for some of the songs).
on his completely solo shows, he used backing track on just a few songs - Go Your Own Way, ISA, Stephanie and Come. and he made it very obvious that's what he was doing.
I've seen Chris Cornell the same way several times in the last few years. he does the same thing on some of his songs, with guitar loops.

I think this is a really astute observation. His pride in his production is evident even now, when he expresses joy over working on Christine's songs. It's a shame because his tendency for overproduction can be a bit much sometimes while the raw versions are poignant.

you saw some shows on his One Man Show tour, right? what did you think? not sure why, he'd start it with the click track and i guess had another guitar recording of himself under his playing? it really didn't need it, no idea why he wanted it that way -

Yes. Imho he uses production and guitar gimmicks to cover up that he is not a that good composer, songwriter and singer. He is a wonderful, underrated guitar player, but his 80s style overproduction killed TiTN and especially SYW. Well I think all this discussion of his production/over-production gets to the heart of why Stevie doesn't want to work with him on another album. I know the romantic stuff makes a better story, but that sh*t's been whatever it is forever. They haven't been on the same page about making albums since she went solo. The IYD doc shows her preferred style of working--- very social, lots of laughter, breaks for dinner, as well as working on the music, which she did in a very collaborative way with Dave...and which she doesn't get with Lindsey because he's such a control freak. He tried on SYW, but there's always a palpable tension in the room when they are trying to work something out (you can really get it from that doc). Lindsey's just way more of a solo producer, he makes his music alone in his studio, writing and playing all the parts. When Stevie's writing and recording demos and everything (even before going into the studio) she's got a bunch of her pals/assistants/whoever around her. She totally needs an audience; he doesn't.
The more she's recorded solo, each time, has made it harder to go back and record with FM because she finds the process with Lindsey as tedious as John does. But she's got more at stake than John coz they're her songs LB is working on and she wants them to sound how she wants-- but she's not technically competent enough to just play a part how she wants it herself. And his vision of how her songs should sound these days (and for a while) is just not how she wants them to sound. She's very concerned with commerciality and he's way more about subverting a traditional commercial sound... They have just musically grown in very different directions and I understand why the pieces won't fit anymore. He's got very strong opinions and philosophies about how songs should be done and though he's tempered the manner in which he expresses those opinions, you can't totally change your personality and so he still can be sharp, judgmental, and a bit condescending and dismissive of her ideas when they don't match his. She's become more and more attached to her status as a Legend and thinks, I'm STEVIE NICKS I don't have to take this crap (even when his ideas make her songs better).
So as much as it breaks my heart, I get why it won't work.

I don't believe that is why he uses "gimmicks to cover up"anything. It is his vision and it's what makes him a unique craftsmen (IMO) It made Tango and SYW great Albums that us Buckingham fans apreciate.

I can kind of agree on SYW for certain songs but I think Tango was great  Yes it had 80s style production but it was the 80s after all, that production style was a thing then and I think the album had a lot of great songs. Everywhere, Little Lies, Isn't it Midnight, Big Love, Tango the song etc. I definitely don't think anything killed Tango because for me, it's a good album. If you don't like 80s production then you probably won't like it or a lot of other albums from that time.
I think his problem isn't that he's trying to cover anything up at least not intentionally but just that he's got too many sounds in his head now. I think he's definitely a good composer/arranger, he's not a super technically amazing guitarist but musically, but in more recent times has been overproducing on some songs, I think Christine might be able to be the yin to his yang for this album. At least I hope.

^^^ I bought TITN the day it came out, literally waited in front of a record store to get it asap. It was so disappointing from the first hearing. I like some of the songs, loved the videos, but the cheesy 80s production reduced it from day one. A song like Everywhere went from a perfect little demo to a diabetis inducing sugar coated mess. Little Lies could have been so much more. I really liked the title track, that was good work, even if the guitar is just another use of the guitar solo from "I'm so afraid". Stevie brought nothing to the album, aside from her background vocals, all her songs were just weak, there was no gimmick that could save them, not that Lindsey didn't try hard. And TiTN had the dopple whopper of "Mystified" and "You and I" the most boring album fillers of the 80s. They gave me the rest. Bad album!
Lindsey went so far to use the whole grunting mess of Big Love again on SYWs "Everybody finds out", as if that had been a good idea in the first place. I lost all hope for future Lindsey productions when I listened to that song.
Christine most definitely is .This album is going to be epic!
i think the talk of Lindsey's production and gimmicks he sometimes likes to use is a very timely one.
i can't comment on Tango since i was not a fan at the time, and from today's perspective i cannot stand that type of production - but that may not be completely fair since again, i didn't hear it when it actually came out.
SYW - i have a hard time with this one. i adore many Lindsey songs on it, i think they are part of one of his strongest song sets ever (GOS1). other than Say Goodbye's horrible gimmicky tricks, i don't mind the production on his other songs there, especially since songs like Come and Murrow or Bleed to Love Her are such strong songs. but you know what? many people say that what SYW was really missing was Christine. SYW was nowhere near at the level of a solo original Gift of Screws. it's a loss for music that Warners stopped the original spectacular Gift and made Lindsey roll some of that amazing work into Say You Will.
Seeds We Sow - while some of the songs are produced extremely lush, such as In Our Own Time or Rack Away Blind, i am worried about all that speeding up LB seemed to have been so enamored with. many of his Seeds songs were the ones we first heard live, at the show he performed 5 months before the album came out. That's The Way Love Goes live was spectacular. all its punkishness and rockiness and rawness is ruined in the actual album version, which took that song's edge and softened it up.
so, i'm hoping LB is over whatever production urges he had that led him to do what he did to songs like That's the Way Love Goes. his songs co-produced with Froom on EP give me some hope.
working collaboratively with a strong musician like Christine, work that they both so obviously found enjoyable, i hope results in getting rid of some of those old production stranglers that i hope will not litter their new album, and some fresh, more raw, and interesting sound.

I guess that's just a matter of different strokes for different folks. I loved Everywhere and Little Lies and wouldn't change much on them. Stevie was hardly present that's true but I do like some of her songs. I agree tho it had filler.
Altho I do also agree on some of the SYW songs but that was a while ago and we'll have to see what influence Christine has because their collaborations in my opinion have always been good.

I think this is fairly accurate description of how difficult the creative process is for them now. Just too difficult, and yes she doesn't have to take that crap, particularly at this stage of her life - there are probably so many other things she would rather do than be in a studio with Lindsey.

Christine says the music they've made is amazing. She's blown away by what Lindsey has done to her songs.
If she says that, then I believe her.
I hope they throw us a bone and give a snippet of music soon.
Yes, yes yes yes yes~!!!! yes to all of it..
I want a snippet so badly!

very true! we didn't have that luxury, of someone who is his equal giving us insight into his solo album before we came out.
I hope they throw us a bone and give a snippet of music soon.

If he really wants more sound than he can make by himself, he could have one additional musician (guitar and/or keyboard) who can also sing backup. But backing tracks .... [shudder].
I think he already has as many musician/singers on the road with him that he can afford to pay.
It's not like the OOTC tour with his "army". Even then he said his accountant told him it was a mistake.

Don't believe the rumours: Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham's duets album is bad news for Fleetwood Mac fans
NEIL MCCORMICK 17 JANUARY 2017 • 1:23PM
Fleetwood Mac are celebrated as one of the great dysfunctional soap operas of rock and roll, a dynastic saga set to music. They are almost as famous for the bed-hopping, powder sniffing, emotional traumas they have inflicted upon one another over the years as for their era-defining monster hits.
So news that two of its most cherished members are making an album together is a cause for intrigue, a sense that there may still be a twist or two ahead in the long running and increasingly convoluted narrative.
It was revealed this week that guitarist, singer and songwriter Lindsey Buckingham has been working on an album of duets with keyboard player, singer and songwriter Christine McVie. It is tentatively scheduled to be released in May, under the name Buckingham McVie. That in itself represents an inescapable reference to Buckingham Nicks, the pre-Fleetwood duo made up of Lindsey and former lover Stevie Nicks.
To add spice to the rumour mill, the rhythm section of drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist (and Christine’s ex-husband) John McVie appear on the album. So the only one of the famous five missing is the elusive Nicks.
There have been 16 members over Fleetwood Mac’s 50 year career, in a constant shuffling of roles that would leave the scriptwriters for Dallas breathless. Most of the bit part players have been forgotten by now but the five leads who united in the mid-70s to create some of the most glorious pop rock ever heard continue to exert fascination.
Legendary albums such as Rumours and Tusk were created in a whirl of narcotic excess, sexual shenanigans and romantic betrayal that lent an undoubted frisson and emotional subtext to songs of love, longing, loss and reconciliation, in which tough emotions were glossed with glorious melodies and sparkling harmonies.
When the classic line up reunited with Christine McVie in 2015, it was intriguing to note that there were three former couples sharing a stage, taking into account that Mick Fleetwood romanced Nicks behind Buckingham’s back during the making of Tusk. Fleetwood has often described the band’s complicated dynamic as a form of ongoing “group therapy”.
The Buckingham McVie album is probably bad news for Fleetwood Mac fans, however. It is 30 years since Tango In The Night, the last Mac album made by the classic line up (although Say You Will in 2003 did feature Christine’s backing vocals on two tracks). Rumours of recording sessions have been floating for the past few years, gaining heat and traction when Christine McVie rejoined.
But it has been known that Nicks, in particular, has been sceptical about whether she was willing to contribute. The appearance of an album featuring all of her band mates suggests they have tired of waiting for her. This is, in all likelihood, Mac without Nicks. And we’ve heard that before, on the dreary 1995 album Time, which I suspect most fans would prefer to forget even existed.
In fact, Fleetwood Mac have released three albums since their 1970s and 1980s hey-day, none of which even came close to recapturing former glories. Indeed, it is hard to think of many (if any) reunited bands who have really added to their canon with work that matches their best, and impacts upon their audience as meaningfully. All such albums are chasing a mirage, a dream of rekindling magical forces dissipated by age and time.
Yet there is something in the soap opera of Fleetwood Mac that almost demands one last musical act of grace. In this era of rock and roll losses, what a treat it would be if rock’s most dysfunctional family could patch it up, one more time with feeling.
The appearance of a Buckingham McVie album, however, may be an indication that the story is not set for a grand finale but a slow fade out.
But we can dream, can’t we? “Now here you go again, you say you want your freedom …”

Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham talk about making their first duet album
Longtime devotees of the rock band Fleetwood Mac might be forgiven for letting out a gleeful yelp when registering the news that singer-keyboardist Christine McVie shared with The Times in December while sitting next to her band mate -- guitarist, singer and producer Lindsey Buckingham.
“I've been sending Lindsey demos in their very raw form,” she says, sitting in the Village Studio’s storied Studio D in West Los Angeles, “and he's been doing his Lindsey magic on them, which I love.”
The product of that magic is tentatively scheduled to come out in May, and the two are at the Village to work on vocals. Working with them are two familiar names: Mick Fleetwood, whose towering drum kit is in the next room, and bassist John McVie.
The album coming out of these sessions, however, won’t bear the Fleetwood Mac imprimatur.
Rather, the release with the working title “Buckingham McVie” will arrive as the first full-length collaboration between the pair.
For hard-core fans, it’s not news that, save band mate Stevie Nicks, Fleetwood Mac’s members have been holed up at the Village. At various intervals over the past few years, the band has acknowledged working on an unspecified project thought to be a new Fleetwood Mac album.
In fact, during a studio visit in 2014, The Times’ Randy Lewis sat down with Christine McVie and Buckingham to discuss her return to touring after 16 years away from the band.
“I thought, I'm really missing out on something — something that's mine, that I’ve just given up,” she said to Lewis. “I'm not paying respect to my own gift."
Nearly three years later, sharing a couch in the same suite where decades earlier Fleetwood Mac recorded its epic album “Tusk,” Buckingham says that after her return, he and McVie generated an entire album’s worth of material during the sessions.
“We got in here, and it made sense to me with what she had given me and what I done with it. But we still didn't know how it was going to play out in the studio,” Buckingham says.
He quickly realized that he’d had a pent-up enthusiasm for this kind of collaboration. “I loved doing it, because it's something that I haven't had a chance to do for Stevie as much as I did in the past,” he says, stressing that he continues to compose for solo projects.
“Those are a little more esoteric and off to the side,” he says, “but that's not the same as doing it for somebody else.”
McVie says she reconnected with Mick Fleetwood prior to joining the 2014 Fleetwood Mac “On With the Show” tour. She’d been living a solitary life in rural England when the drummer traveled to London in order to escort her to Hawaii, the destination she chose to help her overcome her fear of flying.
“I'd been virtually doing nothing in the country in 16 years of being a retired lady. Being busy walking my dogs — actually not doing anything very constructive,” she says. “I made one little solo album in my garage.” (2004’s “In the Meantime.”)
Buckingham remembers Fleetwood calling him soon thereafter. “He said, Christine's been over here and, you know, she would like to maybe rejoin the band." For Buckingham, it was a no-brainer.
McVie lets out a big laugh. “It’s unprecedented!”
“Yeah, but a lot of things about Fleetwood Mac are unprecedented,” says Buckingham. “I left for a long time and you guys got two guitar players and went ahead and did that for a while. Then I came back.”
“Weird times,” McVie says.
“Yeah,” Buckingham agrees. “I mean it's a band like no other.”
McVie, who is best known for writing and singing Mac gems including “Don’t Stop,” “Over My Head” and “Think About Me,” acknowledges that, early on in the Buckingham-McVie project, she doubted her ability to reconnect with her muse.
“I suppose I wondered if I believed in myself,” she says. “But I was like, 'Go for it, Chris. Go for it.' And, you know, a better thing's never happened to me. I've reconnected with the band and found a fantastic person to write with.”
Looking at Buckingham, she adds, “We've always written well together, Lindsey and I, and this has just spiraled into something really amazing that we've done between us.”
For his part, Buckingham’s initial songwriting contributions were the product of sessions with Fleetwood and John McVie, which Buckingham invited Christine McVie to augment.
“It was just pieces with no wording,” she says. “ so I put melody and lyrics on some of his material.”
“That was a first,” says Buckingham. “She would write lyrics and maybe paraphrase the melody — and come up with something far better than what I would have done if I'd taken it down the road myself.”
Those up on the history of Fleetwood Mac might note in the Buckingham McVie moniker the echo of an earlier duet album, “Buckingham Nicks.” Released in 1973 by the two future Fleetwood Mac members when they were a romantic and musical partnership, the Nicks and Buckingham release led Fleetwood a year later to invite the couple to join his band.
Nicks hasn’t contributed to the forthcoming Buckingham McVie project. She’s been on her own trip. In 2016, Nicks embarked on her “Rockin’ 24 Karat Gold Tour” with the Pretenders as openers. That tour will continue with a few dozen more dates across early 2017.
Her schedule, however, had little bearing on what Buckingham and McVie were creating, says Buckingham.
“All these years we've had this rapport, but we'd never really thought about doing a duet album before,” Buckingham says. “There is that album that I did with Stevie back before we joined the band, but other than that, it's all been Fleetwood Mac or solo.”
Interrupting with a tone of bafflement, McVie says, “And why on Earth? It seems absurd after 45 years.”
“Sometimes,” Buckingham says, “it takes, oh, about 40 years of perspective to figure it out.”

I'm sorry, but technically, from a creative output point of view, it seems like they are fading since at least "Tango" which is nearly 30 years old by now.
But!!!! As a fan, I beg to differ.
Who exactly thought in 2013 that Christine would come back and that they would go into the studio again AT ALL? I find this Buckingham McVie project to be a nice, unexpected encore, which may or may not lead into more of this band and I'm fine either way. A tour seems to be in the cards, more encores.
For a longtime fan like me, from 2003 up to now has been a rather active, rewarding time with the band, they made an album, toured regulary, Christine came back, the Rumours 5 toured again, John got ill, but seems to be fine now, like all the other members. They give interviews, share their opinions, give insights. They are active on social mediums. That's the opposite of the "fading" going on ever since Lindsey left the band in 1988(?), when being a fan was difficult, often frustrating, because they gave nothing at all.

Could not disagree more about Mystified. It's absolutely gorgeous.

TITN is fantastic and brought me back to FM after a long period of not caring. The album is bursting with remarkable stuff with the exception of most of Lindsey's "songs." The production is lush and full of surprises. The Buckingham McVie album will, I hope, be like that, but I fear about 50% of the content will be skipovers, as was the case with Say You Will. The full 5 FM team needs to be on board so you-know-who gets less than half the playtime.

All this rings true, but I do wish they could give it a shot now that Christine's back. Hasn't Lindsey agreed to let Stevie do her own thing, even have her choice of producers?
At any rate, on this album, I'm hoping Christine has reigned in Lindsey's tendency to over-produce a song. I think one of the reasons people respond to the stripped-down "Go Insane" was because the original had a lot of production gimmicks that actually diminished the emotional power of the song. There is a raw vulnerability that shows through in the acoustic version that was obscured by the unnatural touches deliberately added in production.
On the other side, I hope Lindsey has been able to keep Christine's song from sounding so samey-samey. I love her, but In the Meantime's songs all kind of blend into one another for me, with the exception of "Bad Journey".
PS I hope that Buckingham McVie is just a working title. I really don't like the way it invites comparisons to Buckingham Nicks and even if that weren't the case, it's not very creative. It's like when they named the EP "Extended Play." C'mon, guys. Try a little harder.

i understand what you are saying but it's been 3 full years since Christine has been back, and the band has been giving it a shot - and asking Stevie to join them - majority of that time. album is done now and i would hate it if all of the sudden now Stevie changes her mind and decides to join since that would delay the album further. at this point if she decides to join they should release this one and then do another album with her.
or after that 2018 FM 5 moneygrabbing tour she needs to leave the band and let them be creative. she has been clear that she's happier without them, and they can finally move forward fast and be creative and relevant without her.

I'm disappointed in Stevie's non-participation for many reasons, but another that comes to mind is that I thought, with everyone on board, "Sad Angel" and "It Takes Time" may have been included on an eventual album. I would have been keen to hear Christine's contributions to these two tracks and even held out hope that Stevie would be persuaded to add a harmony vocal to "It Takes Time" - that, along with Christine's playing, would have made an already great song exceptional. I don't expect either of these to be included on the Buckingham McVie album, but you never know...

Well, while we don't want them to open up old songs and lay a new track down too often, because that would make the album stale, but just maybe they could do it on one song and put Christine's vocal on something Stevie and Lindsey did in the past.
In the interview Christine said the album would have no Stevie OR very little Stevie. Maybe they could use one old track.

I'm thrilled and excited about the project. Can't wait. It's already been far too long a wait. But things are moving towards completion and for the first time in two years I'm allowing myself to get excited.
I was reading a comment about how if she put a 24Kgold2 out. IT WOULD CERTAINLY OUTSELL THE BuckVie album. Even her fans are worried about sales.:lol:
Which is a shame because her demos were fantastic back then. Now they sound horrible with her voice.

I feel the same way. I can't believe how disappointed I am in her lack of faith in the band to create new music. I don't mind an album without her at all, it's what Mick originally wanted in '74:)

How interesting that you twisted that whole conversation around from the Stevie board. All that was said was that if both were released at the same time the poster believed that Stevie would outsell the other. No one expressed any concern about her album not selling. And absolutely no one expressed any concern about her voice. That is you putting your bad attitude on what was said. And no...I didn't post those threads either. Just stop with the negativity about her. She will always be an integral part of what made up Fleetwood Mac. I don't get why you people cant just let it go. She doesn't want to be in the studio with them anymore...and she has that right. Just like Christine had the right to leave when she did...just like Lindsey had the right to leave when he did. I truly wish she would just leave the band myself if only to stop this back and forth on here.

In my opinion, Lindsey, Christine, and Stevie were all wrong to leave. But this is my opinion as a fan (who believes they are best/most interesting with that dynamic) and as a person who participates in social situations and thinks it is wrong to just bail. They all have their reasons (very valid ones--just not ones I could entertain), and I would not dispute their right to leave.
In response to others about Stevie leaving the band as a recording entity, to those who think it's a good thing, what makes it particularly heartbreaking is that, in my opinion, Say You Will, In Your Dreams, and 24K Gold are the best albums she has done since Tusk and the best songs since Gypsy. I wish she could gird herself to enter the Mac recording sessions with the confidence she deserves and with the songs I deserve to hear.

Didn't twist anything. I'm the one that feels her voice is ruining the demos for me they were once gems. She is just so nasal to my ears. I had problems with Christine's pitch issues during the last tour. And Lindsey sounded great but got a bit scratchy at times. Plus, his range has been a lot smaller. I'd rather Stevie focus on creating a new album and write for her voice today.
As for the sales, it was interesting for me to read someone "guarantee" that 24KGold2 (which really isn't an album or a forthcoming album) would outsell Buckingham/McVie's forthcoming album. It just seemed a bit bitter and made me think her fans, like her, about sales as a means to success. It's about creating, not competing. Where's has her will gone to create new music? Certainly today, no 20 year old is waiting for her to release something to steal it. Plus, I feel you're lucky if someone wants to steal your music, it means you are in demand.
And where did I say that she doesn't have the right to do what she wants? I know she will WANT to do the cash grab tour in 2018. And since she's stated that it's about sales and income, and 20 year olds stealing her music from her, I predict she'll be there for the $1500 tickets and the $2500 premiums they had a the Forum when they sold out 6 shows in Los Angeles.
I won't apologize for having my opinion. Not everyone wants to listen to her current voice on old songs.

BUT CM and LB LEFT the band! When Chris wanted to record only, and not tour, they didn't accept that. But Stevie wants to tour only, and not record, and that's okay? It's bullsh*t.

wow, it's sad that someone would even think of that kind of competition. everything seems to go back to commercial for some people. you'd think fans would care about the music, not the sales.
that said, it almost looks like that's why some people were so adamant that FM 4 not be called Fleetwood Mac - because if you mainly care about sales numbers, the name Fleetwood Mac will always outsell individual members.

God yes... I want to hear something... Hopefully in the next month or so.
I haven't posted here much, and not for a long while.
However, I'm very excited by the Buckingham McVie record. I really really like Lindsay's recent solo albums and Say You Will. More of the same except with Christine instead of Stevie would be great, IMHO.
BTW: Someone asked above why it was OK for Nicks to not record but tour, but not OK previously for McVie to record but not tour. If I remember correctly, Buckingham was concerned that Christine's songs to be the singles, but then they would not be able to play them live. If Nicks doesn't record but does tour, then that problem does not occur. Particularly since the album will not be labelled Fleetwood Mac.

I was under the impression that Christine left the band for the opposite reason. She didn't want to tour anymore. Given she wasn't going to be on the road it was mutually agreed that having her part of the album as a full fledged member didn't fit.

It's also basically the same lineup with Lindsey replacing various players that released Future Games, Bare Trees, Penguin, Mystery To Me, Heroes Are Hard To Find, and Behind The Mask. And, it is THE lineup, only minus one key player, that released Fleetwood Mac, Rumours, Tusk, Mirage, and Tango In The Night. And really, we could mention Mr. Wonderful, although Christine was only a session player. I think the thing is that Mick is no longer willing to tell any of the Rumours people they can't be in the band anymore. Also the advantage here is that here is a name which doesn't require anyone other than two particular performers to be involved. Lindsey and Christine have always been a magical combination and it's so cool to have them reunited on record after 30 years.

I am a bit afraid that the first digital release might be a little too poppy and I don't want the album to be judged by that. I know Lindsey indicated that if it had been up to him, Did You Miss Me wouldn't have been the first single off of his solo album. I liked DYMM just fine, but I don't want pop singles, as our first peek into what is to come.
And when you have Christine in the mix, Little Lies is on the forefront of everyone's mind, anyway. I am fond of Little Lies, but I don't want it to shape the early perception of what the album is like.
So, I'd almost rather NOT get an early single and just get the album in one fell swoop, that we can judge in its entirety.
Now, with Under the Skin, we got three singles released at once and if they want to do this with the new album, so we get an array of songs as an exemplar, then I support that.

I really do care about the little details. I really do want to have a couple of single releases. I hope they film specially made videos for them if they do release a single or two. Compared to most big bands/artists their music video output has been really poor. They need to do all they can to support this album so I hope they create something, even if its just film of them in the studio or something. Without having Stevie I'll find it interesting to know how the dynamic of the band in a video would work out.
They have to release this album in a physical form. If they don't then its doomed. I know we say sales don't matter, but it has to sell something. Too many of their fans are too old to be working out how to purchase digital music. I want a CD that I can hold and analyse. I want to read every dedication, thanks and credit (special thanks to Stevie Nicks?). Also, I'm intrigued as to what the cover will look like. I do hope they put some effort into it and put out something in a Fleetwood Mac style (as opposed to the crappy, bad, quickly photoshopped EP cover).
I do hope they tour and if so they get out of the US. I haven't given up hope of a Glastonbury appearance, perhaps not as a headline act, but possibly a low key appearance on one of the minor stages. It'd be now or never as next year the Glastonbury festival will be taking a break. If they tour I wonder who will join them. On the one hand I'd want the band metaphorically stripped naked. On the other hand they really struggle without the musical support. Lindsey cant even sing without the assistance of backup singers these days and Chris's voice also fell apart towards the end of the last tour.

just curious: how many of Lindsey's completely alone One Man Shows have you seen - either in person or on youtube? please point me to the times he was struggling doing these shows completely alone. or when did he have backup singers during OMS shows?
that OMS tour was in 2012, way after FM 2009 tour when his voice sounded as bad and worn out on old FM songs as during 2013-2015 FM tours. i have to speculate because on FM tour they played in the key that worked for other band members. on new songs (Sad Angel for example), or during his solo tours, people are generally shocked how strong his voice is.
PS jbrownsr - yet another thing i'm getting so tired of pointing out over and over and over and over and over again - but nobody's listening.

No, I obviously really haven't seen OMS shows. I'm going on the FM shows I've seen, both live and on YT. In 2015 his voice was completely shot. It wasn't in the same condition when I saw him on the Unleashed tour. OMS he can sing as he wants at his own pace. That was a good few years ago. I really don't know what difference the key will make. Perhaps if its planned differently then Buckingham McVie shows will be okay. The audience will still be expecting something in particular. Sorry, I still worry for them without a bit of help.

obviously we've heard different things in 2009 and 2013-2015. i though LB's voice sounded completely shut in 2009. i was completely shocked when i first saw him live solo in 2011. couldn't believe that's the same person.

When I saw Lindsey solo in Nov of 13?, I was amazed at how strong he sounded. But I was shocked at how weak he was at OWS. He barely sang AT ALL on the choruses, just letting the backup girls sing the choruses.
I say there is NO WAY they could go out as a 4 piece, without someone helping out with vocals. Maybe if they had Brett and someone else playing and singing, they could make it without the girls. That would be my preference!

I watched a lot of videos from the last tour and I think everyone sounded not so great. Stevie, Lindsey, and Christine all were not in their finest form. I think it might have something to do with how long and grueling the tour must've been, in addition to obvious factors like age. At least for Lindsey the way he plays still blows my mind. Stevie in general, I just really don't like the tone of her voice anymore. Christine I still like her tone but she was really, really pitchy in a lot of videos I saw.
haha look at us being all over the place and slowly coming up to some more rounded conclusions!

completely agree with all of this (Homer, i think that's a first!), he always sounds great solo, and then barely sings and just shouts or lets it go with FM when doing most their hits. he does put an effort and sounds good on new songs or songs where he's the only predominant singer (eg Sad Angel, Big Love).

there are many singers their age who still sound fantastic though.
i generally agree with you re Stevie on the last FM tour - she sounded strong and on pitch, just small range.
LB - see above about what i've heard but i haven't see your 3rd show so who knows? Christine imo was the most variable - sometimes sounding great, and then some shows and songs incredibly pitchy. but i think her voice is still n good shape, and if she and LB find the right balance and key to sing their songs in, and i'd suspect that new songs were probably written in the key that suits them both, especially once they didn't have to worry about fitting SN's range anymore.
Christine I still like her tone but she was really, really pitchy in a lot of videos I saw.
i think this make sense, but Lindsey's solo tours are much longer and with many more dates in a row (usually shows on 4 subsequent days, then a day off, then another 4 show dates in a row - and there he has to sing and carry every song. so i don't know that logic really applies to him. i think much lower range and wrong key for his current voice are more to blame in his specific case.
[I say there is NO WAY they could go out as a 4 piece, without someone helping out with vocals. Maybe if they had Brett and someone else playing and singing, they could make it without the girls. That would be my preference!
see i just don't get the logic in expecting that LB and CM would for even a second consider having FM backup girls. LB solo never had those girls as backup singers. let's be realistic, FM backup singers are really SN's backup singers, not FM's (even if they've been with them since just after LB first left in the 80s). but Lindsey solo hasn't had these particular backup singers on any of his tours, and neither did Christine.
on the other hand, besides keyboard and guitars, Brett and Neale did provide backup singing on every LB solo tour in this century except the last one which was completely solo, so to speculate they'd be a part of the CM-LB tour makes much more sense.
aggressive enough for ya Fuzzy? :D :]

Didn't Christine used to not be much of a fan of 'the girls'? I read somewhere on the first FM tour Stevie brought them on she said something about how she doesn't want to see them. Obviously that was a long time ago but I wonder if her attitude has changed.

Of COURSE they were Stevie's backup singers, and it was ridiculous, BACK IN THE DAY. But Fleetwood Mac(as we know it now) was built on 3 part harmony, so a vocal duet just isn't going to cut it. Especially at their ages, with hit and miss performances.
Again, I would much rather hear a couple extra MUSICIANS singing along, adding to their sound, than Stevie's "friends".
Hell, the whole point of this album and tour should be - Thank God we don't have to deal with that loon and her entourage!!!

All singers with age start losing range and breath so they have to develop "adapting solutions" to keep performing the same songs. Changing keys and using backup singers are of help but they aren't the only means and it depends on personal preferences.
For example one of the best "tricks" that I remember now is to perform songs imperceptibly slowlier, so that slow songs since they're already slow don't seem different but also faster songs aren't noticeably different even if they've been slowed down because in comparison to the others they seem much faster anyway. This was the favourite trick of Pavarotti but also some classic soul and r&b singers, and it's particularly adapt for single acts.

Lindsey does sometimes resort to this for backing vocals (and the lead "laughing/screaming" at the end of GOS on his solo tour) but, unless I've forgotten, not for lead vocals. But then Rush do the same, triggering the vocals themselves from onstage, so... It is usually subtle enough, just padding out the sound, but it is one of the things I have always felt Lindsey could do without.

No. Not for leadvocals, only backings. But I could hear his and Stevies vocals apart from their live leadvocals and live backingvocals on several songs during all the tours I've seen since 2003.

Yes, and they've been doing it since at least the mid-80s. I appreciate that they are controlling it themselves and using the sampler as an instrument, I just think it sounds a bit hokey at times (Nobody's Hero from the Counterparts tour being an example of a great song being ruined by obvious samples).
Both Lindsey and Rush are great musicians, I just don't understand why they want to be so close to the studio version that they feel the need for samples.

I think you have it backwards. McVie floated the idea of *recording* with Mac but NOT touring, and that was nixed by the group.
I love the idea but I firmly believe if you are a REAL member of this band you don't sign up for big bucks for a tour but also be a part of the creative process of the band for new material. I know Stevie signed up for the tour but I feel that if she does not contribute to the new album than she should not be allowed to tour. The band (mostly Lindsey) turned down Christine with this same offer. It was reported during the 2013 European tour that Christine floated the idea of joining the band for the tour only. Lindsey pretty much said you are IN OR OUT. You cant have it both ways and come and go as you please (i.e. touring in Europe but not the USA). I think everyone should be treated the same. We all know that Stevie is a huge draw and it will never happen but its just my opinion ;)

On the contrary, I wonder if the Tango deluxe has been pushed back deliberately to put it closer to the new album. From a marketing angle I think it could be very beneficial to have them released quite close together. In terms of the interviews etc they could kill two birds with one stone.

And I do have faith it'll come out. What I hope does NOT happen is that Stevie changes her mind and the rest lay down the project until she's ready in 2019 or something. If that happens, I'm out, over it, disgusted, done.

Honesty, I don't think the four of them, or the thousands of people who want to hear this, worry all that much. The point of their collaboration was to give them an outlet for their artistic and musical energies. That's what we, as long time fans of their music want to hear. Do I hope it's a smash? Of course. Do they hope it's a smash? Of course. But it's the quality of the music that counts. I doubt we'll be disappointed.

I completely agree with you on this. The best thing that has happened with this band in the last two years (since Christine returned) is this duo album by Lindsey and Christine. There is no reason for Stevie to change her mind at this 11th hour and say she'll contribute. It's best for everyone (Stevie included) for her to have nothing to do with this album.

Not only did they have their moment, but they let it slip by. They could have really put to rest this whole romantic bullcrap and made some really cool music based off their lives together. They chose not to because of money, ego etc.
Plus, nothing they do will ever match the original B/N album. That album is perfection. Doesn't matter that it didn't sell, it's such a great album.

I don't think they really would have been able to succeed in making another BN album not only because it wouldn't have been as good but because in the past they had way too much personal problems in additional to a professional battle of the wills and now they still have the power struggle but plus very different musical tastes. With Christine, I really think she will the yin to the yang.
However, I once read a Lindsey interview from right around the time of Tango and it was very casually mentioned that Stevie apparently had asked him to do another BN album? It was just like one comment but I'm very curious about that. Was it a mistake by the writer? Or if it is true, why on earth, especially during the Tango era, would she have been asking to do another BN album?

Well Christine also has pretty different musical tastes than Lindsey and always has, but she still willing to let him work on songs, whereas Stevie doesn't anymore. She basically hated Say You Will and how her songs came out on it and so she's never really given him a song to work on since. Definitely. I sense from interviews that Christine's pop craft, her fluency on the piano, and her persistent commitment to the blues have always fascinated Lindsey. Just as she respects him, he respects her.
Christine's humility is also a good fit because she doesn't apparently mind when Lindsey occasionally condescends her, such as when, in speaking of their collaboration," Lindsey says: "this is something you have always wanted me to do FOR you." As if they weren't collaborating! Or when, in his absence, she built up YMLF by herself and he later said he was "proud of her." Christine is secure enough in her own musical abilities and songwriting skills to not seem to mind--and even complement him further.

He also said, (paraphrasing) "she wrote my melody and lyrics and came up with something better than I came up with..."

I don't think Lindsey said he was proud of her for YMLF. I think that anecdote came from Ken's book. I think it was Ken's perception that Lindsey was proud of what Christine had done, when he heard it. He wrote that about Lindsey in his book and I don't necessarily see it as a condescending thing. You can be proud of what someone has done without patronizing them, just happy that someone you feel you have a connection to is excelling.
Which is not to say that Lindsey doesn't patronize.

I think Lindsey loved having someone to jam and write with. I don't think he really ever had that with Stevie. I give him credit for taking her out of her conservative nature. I think she was a little more daring w/ Welch because the genre was different and she was such a natural. Bad Loser, Morning Rain, Why are all examples of her natural ability to put out a excellent craft. I think Lindsey makes it quirky. Hold Me sounded nothing like anything that came out in 1982. I give him credit for that.

I agree. They completely balance each other. She "pops out" his weirdness, and he quirks up her pop ditties.
And Hold Me is the perfekt example. I wish it translated better live, though.

It feels like they kind of threw it together live. Stevie should not be singing on it.
The verses are amazing live.. but they screwed up the chorus.

I thought I found an actual live video of it(at first), but it's a video montage over the audio.
I remember Lindsey doing different stuff on it, though. I SWEAR he would scream, "WHY DON'T YOU COME ON AND A", in between "Hold Me"s.
It's been a minute or two since the Mirage Tour, hasn't it? But I stand behind my memory!

Apparently they should have taped down more than the jinglebobs on her tambourine!:D
I wish they'd played it on every tour afterwards!

Lindsey did for a bit make it seem like everyone needed him.
I remember reading a post Tusk article.. or maybe during Mirage.. I think it was Circus or Hit parader...

And for the vocals, I remember a Los Angeles review admiring the way she crooned and he demanded like a werewolf. The blend was enticing.

I have to disagree. The whole thing is really good and the harmonies on the chorus are great. They are doing exactly what they do on the record except the overdubbed back and forth of the other harmony vocal.

Not exactly true... they don't sustain.. hold meeeeeee hold meeeeeeeee hold meeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
vs...
hold meeeeeeeee hold meeeeeeee yeahhhh uuuuhhhhhhhhh
to me that is a cheap way out of a real E vowel... E (the vowel, not the note) are harder for a singer to sustain and stay in pitch...
I do like the bridge with the piano, drums and guitar working off each other..
Christine is spot on for the piano...

I wonder if she feels the same way about recording a solo record.
She's comes off as:
1. I only care about sales.
2. Creating isn't fun.
3. I have to be the boss in collaborations.
4. Money
Not sure why she doesn't understand Lindsey and Christine's premise. It's quite simple. They want to create. They are artists.
