This according to Mick at a meet and greet. So Stevie only wanted Christine back to tour? She hates Lindsey that much? Well count me as someone seriously disappointed in her.

Whatever her reasons are, time is beginning to run short for these folks and their ability to work together.
And without a gimmick to promote (like Christine back for the first time in 17 years, or a new album), I don't see this band being able to keep doing the greatest hits tour circuit and selling out arenas.

Would love to get more info on this…
Cannot believe she would be that obtuse at this point in their careers. Might this be a negotiating strategy by Stevie or her team??

This honestly does not come as a surprise to me. I wonder what her reservations are?
Is she being denied her choice of producers for her own songs? Or is she demanding the entire album be produced by her choice of producer? The latter could be tricky, given how Lindsey & Christine's songs are apparently finished.
Or is Stevie not liking what she's heard from Lindsey & Christine's sessions? Maybe she's demanding a reboot?
Perhaps she's pulling a Lindsey- demanding time for her solo career after these consecutive Mac tours?

As much as I love Stevie, I agree. Tango is one of my favorite Mac albums and I always see it as more of a Christine/Lindsey album anyway. It would be disappointing if she wasn't involved, but it can be done without her total involvement.

for sure.
but the timing would be most suspicious and lead to all sorts of rumors about why she's not recording.. I mean she's all excited to have Chris back and they do a big tour and it's a new chapter in the ongoing Mac saga and then…poof! Stevie bails.
How does that not in the press look like she refused to record with Chris? Even if she says no it's about Lindsey, come on, you did an album and umpteen tours with him after Chris left. You cried about missing Chris. Chris comes back and THEN you bail??
I don't see how she gets out of this without it backfiring on her PR-wise. I reallllly think she's holding out in order to get whatever it is that she wants, be that an outside producer or the exact producer she wants or whatever.
I'm willing to bet she's threatening not to record to get her way on something--- like how after SYW she held out the threat that she would not tour more than the original 40 dates (LB needed them to do more dates to make more money to make up for the money he would lose on the album from putting on more songs). She had whatever issues with the songs/running order/length of the album and said if you do things your way then I won't tour. They capitulated and she stayed on tour.
That's why I'd love to hear exactly what Mick said, how he phrased his comments.

Very likely. She's not getting something she's demanding, so she's withholding her participation until her requests are fulfilled. But the big question is, what are those requests? Is she worried about the oversaturation of the Mac with these back to back oldies tours? Does she want to break and promote her new solo album? Does she want time to go write some new material to bring to the band after hearing what Chris & Lindsey have come up with? Is the issue of producers looming large again?

Be disappointed with Fleetwood Mac and not Stevie...If Stevie chooses to not be involved in recording with FM that's her choice it's also the band's choice to allow her non participation with a new record to continue...If FM really wanted to put new music out then they would issue Stevie an ultimatum "We are recording a new record and if you don't want to be a part of that then you are no longer in the band" (it's not like it would be the first time FM had a personnel change ) and they would also be in the studio right now and not out on another cash cow oldies tour. It's clear that FM would rather rake in the cash instead of taking a stand and dealing with the problem (Stevie not recording) than being productive (albeit a different incarnation) and moving the band forwards with new product.

I don't think this is it either. Didn't Stevie say in a recent interview that she hasn't heard their material yet?

I can certainly see her wanting to get in a tour for 24KG, perhaps in the second half of 2015, but that wouldn't have to stop her from participating in a Mac album next year too, not after the way she pulled 24KG together in a flash.
These old farts are so dramatic and over the top about everything. I could see ANY of the reasons already listed being reasons that she would be holding out.
Or maybe she's still pissed about "Stand Back" getting banned from the setlist this year. I say that half in jest, but I could totally see that having been a huge fight during rehearsals.

I would hope Lindsey and Mick stand up to Stevie and tell her under no circumstances would they allow Dave Stewart to co produce a fleetwood mac cd. It would be horrible to have his crappy bubble gum sound on their cd. His sound is way too different than the Mac's sound and would take it in a direction I pray Lindsey would never accept.
The Mac members have all made enough money off this tour to last them the rest of their lives, they should not have to bend over for Stevie and Dave. Kick them both to the curb.
Hopefully she is just holding out for more money.

This is why there will never be another personnel change in FM. No other line up will be accepted enough by the public to earn the kind of money this one does (sad but true, unless they change their mind about priorities but they won't).

I doubt that Stevie has even heard Lindsey and Christine's sessions yet. It's been clear that she hadn't agreed to a new album all along, so it's not a surprise.
When those new 2015 dates came out, I couldn't see how a new album could be fit in. No matter what they hope and dream, I don't see them working on an album after this tour. The only thing I wished was that they could do an album between tour segments, but now that 2015 will start so soon, that hope was dashed too.
The only way there will be an album is if Lindsey and Christine record without Stevie. Since they will already have made lots of tour money in 2014-2015, I don't see what they could lose by recording without her at this point. They won't lose money and I doubt they will lose critical acclaim. They will lose some album sales without Stevie, but this wasn't going to be a block buster album anyway. If they care anything about expressing themselves creatively, they'd just put an album out without her. They disappoint me by not doing so.

If that is true (and my sneaking suspicion tells me it is), count me as very disappointed too. At this point, as much as it pains me, I'd rather them just do the album without her. It would be a shame if we never got to hear the new stuff that Chris and Lindsey wrote due to Stevie being ridiculously bullheaded.

Stevie may have a point. I agree with her when she had qualms with Lindsey's production on Say You Will. He killed some of the songs on that album with overproduction: Bleed to Love Her, Say Goodbye, even Red Rover. Sometimes another producer/sound engineer, whoever that may be, is a good thing and gets a discussion going. Get Pharrell from The Voice, Stevie, I hear he's a huge fan...he'll get you on the radio again and modernize your sound...lol. Also what is their objective? Do they want to sound adult contemporary/easy listening? Do they want a concept for the album and songs that support that...or will this just be accumulated songs? Even as the industry has moved away from albums, a single concept works better and gets everyone in the band in the same mindset, if that is even possible with FM. Stevie in the studio has made great contributions, adding her vocals, lyric suggestions, The Chain.
Also Stevie might be holding up because she's scared the album sales will reflect poorly on the band. How did the EP do last year? I think this is weighing on her mind, as she has commented publicly on her sales for In Your Dreams and not being too thrilled about it. She may also honestly not have songs ready that are good enough. When was the last time she wrote something of a high caliber that wasn't from the vault and Lindsey won't roll his eyes when he hears (e.g. Moonlight or Annabel Lee)?

Would WB even be interested in a "Stevie-less" FM? But then that might be in the band's best interest as any number of smaller labels would be thrilled to sign them even without Stevie and a smaller label would probably give them better promotion.

And this is exactly why I didn't buy 24 Karat Gold. I got into the Mac in 1997 as a young boy after seeing the special on MTV and immediately went and bought all the albums past 1975 up to that point (yes, even Time). I've been waiting for a full-on Fleetwood Mac album for well over 15 years at this point. Say You Will was a good album but let's face it, it was a Buckingham Nicks joint with some excellent rhythm sections.
We deserve a final album and until then, I'm not buying Stevie's scraps (even though I bought In Your Dreams). She either needs to put up or shut up. I got tired of reading of her "boys club" Mac stories and now she has no excuse not to participate. It's (more than likely) one final album. Just get it the hell over with so you can retire peacefully into the sunset with the rest of the band.
Does she really want to be known as the reason there was never another Mac record? That can't exactly look good for her, especially after the (what can only be called a) miracle of Christine's return.

the thought does occur that if Mick indeed reiterated to a fan(s) that Stevie is still a holdout for a new album, that that might be part of HIS strategy for forcing her hand. Not unlike in the not so distant past when he gave interviews saying well, Stevie doesn't want to do a new tour and so maybe FM will never tour again… (dramatic flourish of hand to brow)
He might be doing his Mick thing of airing some of the goings on to try and produce the pressure on her to pony up. Though later he sort of apologized for doing that--- after of course he got the result he wanted.
As has been noted, anything at all is possible with this bunch of drama queens. Chris may be sorry if she thought the soap opera was over…..

a blurb i just found about what Mick said at that m&g:
"He was asked about the new album and his response was that they do plan on finishing it once they get a gap in between touring... and mentioned a second leg had been added (later announced on The Today Show). So there's is not timetable it seems for the album, just that it will happen."

When someone dies, they will all be remorseful about not collaborating more. Unfortunately they are getting to a point in their lives where time isn't on their side. It's pathetic at their age that this even goes on. If you don't like being in the band, quit. If that means the days of mega tours are done, then so be it.

I totally agree. Christine is 71 and just because she's just come back doesn't mean they'll be around for another 20 years. They'll be active for another 3/4 years tops. They can't be fussy now as it would be great to go out with a bang.
A new Fleetwood Mac record would be fantastic. I think 'Say You Will' is an absolute masterpiece and it's hard to believe its 11 years old but an album with all 5 members would be great and I'm sure it'll come out some time next year. I don't think Stevie would be stupid enough to miss out on this.

It's all really just a moot point right now. They only have a month off between now and April, and they still haven't announced any non-North American dates. ugh. I know you're just making a joke, but seriously, that move was a total disaster for KISS. They over shipped a boatload of albums to make headlines, and none of them sold all that well, not even Ace Frehley's,and he was the only one with a hit. They remaindered those albums for YEARS. In fact the industry changed rules for certifying albums gold/platinum after that to wait a longer time and only certify based on albums SOLD not albums shipped.
That said, it didn't solve any of the personnel problems in the band. It just pits members even more against each other in a very public way.

Great point! At their ages, they don't have the luxury of time; all of their futures have a limit point. If Stevie's massive ego stalls the project, there will be a lot of resentment directed at her. I can't imagine what the **** her issue is. She certainly takes no umbrage touring with the band.
This is very perplexing. Lindsey and Christine seem very invigorated by the studio work their doing. Stevie seem invigorated by Christine's return to the band. It's reasonable to think she would want to collaborate and contribute on album that could potentially be the band's last stand.
Should attendees of Fleetwood Mac's concerts hold up banners and signs to persuade her to pull her big head out of her old ass, reminding her to play nice with the people who are responsible for her career, her fame and her wealth?

I really don't think they (or Stevie specifically) care about a record. they're all about the tour. that's where there $$ comes from.

In talking about her new album, Stevie has mentioned, in some fashion, that making good music is more of a priority than sales numbers. So why would that be an issue for her in context of Fleetwood Mac?

I definitely think Lindsey and Christine want a new album made, we know they've been in the studio and they sounded quite enthusiastic about the new songs. Also Lindsey has mentioned a few times at the concerts about there being more to come from them.
I may be wrong but I also don't think Christine re-joined just to tour again, I do think she expected them to record some new music, but who knows:shrug:

Sorry, just saw this after my last post!
I'm only going by what she's said in recent years about how the music industry has changed and how it is difficult to sell albums compared to the past. Wasn't she meant to be disappointed with the sales for her last album too? It did seem to bother her. If FM sold poorly maybe she'd feel it was a double blow.
I couldn't care less how it sells personally, just give us new music!

Maybe I'm giving this band too much credit, but why in the world would Christine and Lindsey go into the studio and work on a new album if Stevie were that reluctant? Wouldn't it be a political mindfield to go into the studio to start a new album knowing that not all members are on board? I have a hard time believing that they would do that if Stevie said she was reluctant...at all. Stevie would be furious! I also don't think Lindsey would make the speech every night about this reunion bringing "many fruits" if it didn't involve something other than a cash grab tour.
It sounds like there were various conference calls with the band as Christine has mentioned - you would think (and I hope) that a long term plan was discussed and it wasn't just "welcome back Chris, now how many times can we tour the states now that you're back"
It would be a really crappy thing to welcome somebody back into the band who obviously wants to not only perform live again, but make new music...to welcome them back with the understanding there would not only be touring, but new music as well and then backpeddle on the album.
Personally, if they truely can't get on the same page regarding a new album and Christine's presence won't help the situation...I feel bad for Christine because that has to be momentously discouraging. If relationships are that strained in the band, why bring Christine back into that kind of environment?
I'm remembering why I loved the Stevie Nicks of 1996-1998. She was humble and had some humility as she was just coming out of a rough patch. She was humble and gracious. Now I feel like her ego is WAY out of control. She's only gracious when it benefits her.

That probably came across the wrong way. Gracious to the fans, yes. We've been really luck with all of the new music that has come out in just the past couple of years.
I meant more in terms of politically within the band itself. Christine comes back after 16 years and you still want to be cold about a new album (IF that is even true) I don't know, I would be overjoyed to have Chris back and I would realize what an amazing opportunity this is for the entire band, instead of just being hung up about myself and the issues I have about making the album.
The whole thing is confusing so we can't make any assumptions, it could all be BS. Predicting this band is like the weather, good luck.

but the timing would be most suspicious and lead to all sorts of rumors about why she's not recording..
Let's remember that in 2012 Mick was saying that he thought Fleetwood Mac would never, ever tour again. Then Stevie rushed out to Loose Women in June or July 2012 to reveal that the band would be touring again, 6 months before they officially announced the dates.
Mick should do an interview with Rolling Stone and say that Stevie Nicks is preventing them from releasing new material. Putting public pressure on her seems to work.

So why would that be an issue for her in context of Fleetwood Mac? Any album released is a crap shoot. She had no reluctance to release her new album not long after her disappointment in the commercial performance of her of previous album. Authentic artists' motivation to create shouldn't be predicated solely on commercial projections.
Given the amount of vault songs she has, I'm surprised that she hasn't passed them over to Lindsey to at least work on some arrangements. All our speculation is based on nothing but hearsay. Who the hell knows what Stevie's thinking. I wish some interviewer would indirectly ask her "So, what kind of songs are you planning on bringing to the new Fleetwood Mac album? Songs from your vault? New songs? What is it like working in the studio with Christine again? For Fleetwood Mac fans this is the dream we've been waiting for. Can't wait to hear it!"

What would Stevie do when it comes time to perform the new material in concert? Is she supposed to leave the stage for all 6 new songs, or would she be expected just to wander around aimlessly, shaking her tambourine but not really contributing anything to the performance?

OR, they can release it without Stevie and play new songs on tour. She doesn't have to be up on stage for every song.
But what tour would they play it on? I don't think they can work new songs into this tour starting in January. That boat looks like it has passed. There's not enough time off between the end of this leg and the start of the 28 dates they just announced. Once this tour ends, no way will they be able to do another tour in 2016.
I can only hope the four Macsters will complete the album after this tour, without hopes of touring on it at all. Of course, they can promote it in interviews though.

Stevie said last year that there were two planned tours for 2015, so if that's still the case, and she tours for 24KG after the Mac tour ends (whenever that might be), how could she commit to a record? Because it would seem Christine and Lindsey began recording around the same time as Stevie, and if Stevie had already committed to her solo tour, and the recording of her album, can she really be expected to participate in the recording of the new Mac album? This all sounds like Tango to me. That being said, I highly doubt FM would do a "farewell album" without Stevie.

Seeing as how the other 2 were in a major recording studio laying down tracks, I don't think it would be premature of Stevie to say she is willing to do another album now, even if she doesn't get around to it for 9 months. "I was there at the very beginning," she says, "but you plan an album on a cycle kind of thing. What happened is everything took a little longer, so I ended up being on the second single from my album and getting ready to go on the road when Fleetwood Mac really got started on it.
"Lindsey was doing another solo album, too. If he hadn’t been Lindsey - if he’d have been me - then he could’ve gone ahead and done his at the same time Fleetwood Mac was doing theirs. But Lindsey, having to be the boss - and pretty much the head of this particular tribe at this particular moment - he couldn’t do both. I could, because there wasn’t all that much for me to do, in the technical sense, at the beginning of the record. I didn’t feel weird about it because I didn’t have any choice."

Interesting plan but I don't see it happening... By the end of the tour in 2015 Stevie will have toured with FM 3 years in a row so they are on borrowed time and I certainly don't see Stevie extending it to 4 or 5 years in a row with FM.

If not for Christine's return and John's cancer scare, I'd agree. But the equation changed, and Stevie's attitude about the band's future has also likely changed.

a blurb i just found about what Mick said at that m&g:
"He was asked about the new album and his response was that they do plan on finishing it once they get a gap in between touring... and mentioned a second leg had been added (later announced on The Today Show). So wasn't sure when... but it will happen. Also said they needed to persuade Stevie to take part. Said they had a lot of recorded material to choose from... So there's is not timetable it seems for the album, just that it will happen."

Thank you, Elle.
Whether the band decides to release a new album or not, they won't be able to do another tour after this without new music. since big money has always been a factor in the decisions these musicians make, new music has to be forthcoming. And it better be. We've all waited decades.
If it has to be sans Stevie, so be it. I love her and all, but the musical chemistry between the remaining four is powerful enough to satisfy my ears.

Is she worried about the oversaturation of the Mac with these back to back oldies tours?
 Oversaturation? No such thing exists in the Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks camp!
I would hate for what could possibly be Fleetwood Mac's last album to be Stevie free. She could pull a Tango move and make some cursory contributions to the album, then complain about it later. It's rather startling that she isn't inspired at all to work again with Christine in the studio.
Speculation has run rampant. I wish Stevie would address the issue and reassure fans that she is excited to make a new album now that Christine is on board. There will be a some vilification towards her if she doesn't step up and bows out. I'm sure a Lindsey/Christine album is feasible, but it's just not right at this stage in the game for Stevie to disrespect the people and institution who plucked her out of looming obscurity. Three songs and some harmony parts isn't much to ask for. After all, she is not a musician, so she has it much easier than the rest of them. They are carrying most of the weight. "She did her work, but Mac fans were quietly crying. Does she ever feel guilty about not even trying. Sad pampered Stevie."
Take some hard advice Stevie. Go write some real songs!

I think we need to stop speculating so much and just wait and see. In all honesty, if we know anything about the Mac it is that they work in a "last minute decision" style. There could very well be a new album with all five involved as I find it highly unlikely that they would tour again with just the hits...there would not be much justification.
I think, to be honest, that Christine coming back to the band changed everything. Had she not, I do believe that sometime after the 2013 tour there would have been a new album (or at least a more cohesive EP) that the band would at some point tour behind. With Christine coming back, I think the band and their managers saw this as a great way to capitalize. They are essentially doing what they have done in 2009 and 2013, only this time Christine is here. From a marketing standpoint, a greatest hits tour with the whole lineup is big money. I am as glad as anyone to have Christine back and I do think the format of this tour is justified, however I believe it has taken place of working on new Fleetwood Mac music to be released in the near future.
Most likely what will happen is that this tour will last until June 2015. I am sure that Stevie will do some performing for the 24 Karat gold release. To her credit, she has given a lot towards the band this time around as she is not even mentioning her new album at the shows. Stevie is a dedicated Fleetwood Mac member and I am sure that if the band does go on to make a new album, which I hope they do, she will be a part of it.
As a personal side note, I would hate to think that all Stevie would do is "throw the band some other tunes from the vault," to paraphrase another poster. If the band do in fact make a new album it should be heartfelt and creatively invigorating for them (like the work with Buckingham and McVie seems to have been). When I listen to an album by a band I don't want to hear forced music...it needs to be real.

This according to Mick at a meet and greet. So Stevie only wanted Christine back to tour? She hates Lindsey that much? Well count me as someone seriously disappointed in her.
Meh, unless I see a direct quote from Mick I'm taking this with a large grain of salt.

I think we need to stop speculating so much and just wait and see.
This ^^^
Most likely what will happen is that this tour will last until June 2015.
This^^^
Of course, now that Stevie's record is out, here all you go again with the b*tching about Stevie "holding back Fleetwood Mac". Let's not take such an innocuous comment Mick said about "persuading Stevie to take part in recording a new album" as her "not being on board". These cats really don't hang out with each other on a regular basis anymore, except to go on tour, promote themselves on interviews and talk shows, make business decisions and record albums. All 5 of these band members have their own "entourages" and "posse" when they tour. It's been like this since Tusk. It is highly possible that Mick and the band really haven't had the opportunity to discuss a new album project with her because this tour is the main focus at the moment.
I'm sure that Stevie is well aware that Lindsey and Chris have been writing new material...and I'm sure, whenever asked, that Stevie will totally be on board with recording a new Fleetwood Mac record.

Having read all the hysteria and jumping to conclusions here, here's my take on it:
More than likely Mick was making a past tense comment, that they had to persuade Stevie to do another FM album but this convincing was not recent, it was likely in tandem with Christine rejoining.
We know they did an EP in 2013 because Nicks felt that "albums just don't sell anymore" and wasn't interested in a full-blown album. We also know she has complained about how Lindsey produced SYW.
But now here she is, still saying that albums don't sell but it doesn't matter. As she said about 24KG "I wanted to do a great record, not a hit record."
I'm guessing that Chris's rejoining the band is probably what convinced Stevie to do another album. That's why Chris and Lindsey have been working out songs while Stevie finished her 24KG album. That's why Christine has said that Stevie will definitely be on the album. That's why Lindsey talks in concert about a new chapter that will bear much fruit.
So when Mick makes an offhand remark about "we had to persuade Stevie to join in" I'm sure that discussion was settled well prior to the current tour.

By the same token, the four other band members have earned the right to do as they please without involving Stevie. If it's a choice between an album by Mick, John, Christine and Lindsey or no Fleetwood Mac album at all, which seems to be the case, I think most fans would choose the Stevie-less album over nothing.
And that's all fine. I doubt anyone referred to Christine as an egocentric old cow when she chose not to tour or record with FM for 16 years. Just saying there is a double standard here.

Right. Well, Stevie is definitely the star (in terms of media attention and solo album sales) so there's inevitable backlash for that, unfair as it may be.
I think a Stevie-less album will sell but not as well. Without Lindsey BTM only went gold. Without Christine SYW also only went gold.
Plus, since Nicks is actually touring with FM I really really really doubt that she isn't already on board to record with them. That just wouldn't make sense; supposedly Christine floated the idea a few years ago of recording with FM but not touring and that was nixed by the rest of the band. I'd be surprised if they let Stevie get away with "touring but no recording".

I read it in another thread on this board, by someone who was at the meet and greet. It was from the "On With the Show Tour" thread. Here is the quote.
[QUOTE=elle;1148962]interesting.
at the m&g in NYC, Mick reportedly said in response to question about their album that they have 27 (i think?) pieces recorded already (would that be 27 whole songs? can't remember?). after follow-up question on why did they not put that out already and what/who is holding the album, he was apparently pretty specific saying something like they need to get Stevie on board and she's not there yet.

I still think Stevie hasn't fully committed in any formalized way to an album and I think she is holding out as a negotiating tactic. That's just how albums seem to go with her/them anymore. (SYW and the EP). So whatever is in her heart about a new album, I think (my opinion only) that she's not yet made a firm commitment ("signed the contract" so to speak). Maybe she's waiting to see how the tour plays out vis-a-vis Lindsey; maybe she's still insistent on getting the producer SHE wants; whatever it is, she's hesitating.

Honestly, you know, any album they put out is unlikely to sell well, because of their age and because they have been around so long as a band, a lot of people see them as being past it. Stevie or no Stevie, I would be incredibly surprised if a new Fleetwood Mac album went platinum in the US.

A lot of speculation. Just like when she was not in the studio for the beginning. Then word came out that she had a commitment to Warner Brothers so she had to go do a record.
Stevie has a back log of material. And no doubt she is writing now. If there is a new FM record, Stevie will be on it. It would be senseless to do without her. She is the reason the band has stayed relevant without Christine. She is the one promoting her and the music.
She said she never wanted to be the reason the band split up. Not sure why she would change that tone now as they are nearing the end of their touring life.
They need to get through the tour.

I am not so sure about that anymore. It looks like her glitter is starting to fade. Most of the media attention is on Christine and Lindsey on this tour.....even the fans comments on twitter have mostly focused on those two.
It is interesting to read the comments here where people are saying the band could survive without Stevie....I believe whatever magic she had around her for a long time has faded and the cracks are starting to show and this generation of fans are much less forgiving. Yes, she is a legend, but the glitter does fade and it seems to be fading.
In my opinion Dave Stewart brought the darkness and decline to her career because he over exposed her....there was something enchanting and mystical about her being secluded and untouchable...

??? Darkness and decline? Stevie just released one of her best solo albums in 30 years. It was Dave Stewart who gave her the confidence and ability to reach out to a whole new generation of fans. Far from being overexposed, she's finally making an effort (albeit halting at times), to embrace social media and really market herself in a smart and focused way. Are you living in a parallel universe? Darkness and decline? Where have YOU been these past 4 years? Dave is responsible for the woman getting stuff done...new albums, documentaries, DVD's, gallery exhibits, need I go on? Overexposed??? Hardly.
If we're going to talk about "darkness and decline" then let's discuss the decade in between TISL and IYD where all she did was tour the "oldies", repackage a "greatest hits" and release a live "greatest hits". Now that's DEFINITELY a period where she seemed "secluded" but there was nothing enchanting or mystical about that at all! :sorry:

It's comforting to note that Stevie did ultimately participate in the EP, and she'll likely contribute to a new album once it's close to completion.
They'll pick a few of her songs (likely both old and new), work out the arrangements, then invite her in to sing them.
That's how it's worked since Mirage. She spent only a couple of weeks with them working on Tango in the Night.
Maybe they'll add her backing vocals to a song or two.
Of course, I'd love it if she were more involved. But spending too much time around Lindsey the Studio Boss may be too much for her, and they don't need her there as a musician.
One of the things I really liked about Say You Will is how they added her voice to Lindsey's songs (something that hadn't happened since Rumours, to my recollection). Otherwise, it would have sounded like Tusk (with a disconnected Lindsey solo album built in).
Stevie loves to sing harmony, but she's been criminally underused in that capacity since joining the Mac in 1975 (Rumours outtakes like Oh Daddy, YMLF, and NGBA indicate how much more she could have contributed).
At this point, she's probably thinking, "Why bother getting involved too early? Lindsey's just going to dominate the album anyway."
So when Mick makes an offhand remark about "we had to persuade Stevie to join in" I'm sure that discussion was settled well prior to the current tour.
Nope. Not even close.

Lindsey, Christine, Mick and John laid down 7 or 8 tracks...or however many they said it was.....in only 2 months of work. That's mostly Christine's new songs. Lindsey has already recording the bulk of his material from before.

I do think there's a gag order of sorts. I think that's why Lindsey doesn't mention plans for a new album on stage. Whereas last tour he talked about the EP and his hopes that the other songs they had recorded would find an outlet.
This time, even though he and Chris have recorded songs, he doesn't mention them and I think there's a reason.
However, I don't think Stevie has committed to an album yet. So, I don't think they know there will be one and just aren't talking about it. I think Mick hopes he'll be able to convince her to do one.

Exactly. Anyone doubting that can read the reviews for 24k and you'll see she's definitely not in decline. If anything, it's the opposite.
As far as her recording with Fleetwood Mac goes, I hope she doesn't. That way maybe she could do a 24k tour and pound out another solo album before she's 70. I don't think Fleetwood Mac needs her to be successful at all, especially since Christine's back. Fleetwood Mac has been through variations of itself many times and survived. Maybe there can be a new version without Stevie. I'm all for it.

Getting Stevie "on board" with recording is as easy as letting LB know that the rest of the band has decided to let Stevie have creative control of her FM songs...It's that simple...Step aside Lindsey and let Mama bring the greatness of her last two albums into the FM sound...Lindsey has ruled the band long enough time let Stevie do her thing...Who knows the songs might actually be good...

If the argument comes down to who gets creative control, then why not let Christine make some of the decisions? She's the one who came back with some material and has also provided the band with the most Top 40 records.
Honestly speaking, if all of this even has a sparkle of truth in it, Stevie's doing nothing but hurting her own image. She's had two albums in the past 5 years of her own material and the band wants another album (possible a final one). They're not getting any younger, who knows how long they'll continue touring for and on top of that, Stevie doesn't even seem really bothered to write any new material seeing as she rushed out an album of oldies.
The problem with this is, I don't think the rest of the band has any problem with Lindsey's creative vision for the band. Some of his ideas don't end up making it (Double album in 2003, anyone?) but who can ever honestly say they have a 100% track record?
Stevie's out of excuses. Apparently, she was hesitant about giving new material to the Mac for an album because of sales worries (is that correct?) yet turned around and rushed out a new solo album. I'm sorry, what? If she's over that now, then it's time to put up or shut up. I was having a discussion with a customer just this morning at my CD store I manage and he bought The Dance CD because he and his wife said they are going to try to see them in Greensboro. He asked if there was any word on a new album and I said no, rumor has it there are complications and Stevie possible may not be on board for it. His response? "Seriously? After McVie came back and everything? Well **** her then, miss high and mighty."

Ugh. I sure hope that's not what it takes. My copy of 24 Karat Gold finally arrived today and I listened to it excitedly... and was pretty unimpressed (except for maybe "Lady" and a couple others). I know it's getting some good reviews, but man, it sure sounds stuck in the '80s to me. And I LIKED In Your Dreams decently enough. Such a shame. I hope FM doesn't feel the need to kowtow to the whims of Stevie -- or ANY one of its members, for that matter. Almost all of them have acted like divas at one point or another, but the age of the big-ego diva is behind us, thankfully. I hope Stevie can put the self-centeredness aside and think about the great music that could be made TOGETHER.

Again, still don't know why you're saying that her "glitter is fading," and that she's "going down in flames" - or what either of those phrases means in this context. People can and do differ as to the quality of her most recent album (many like me think it's a career standout), but objectively speaking, I truly do not understand how she is somehow at a career lowpoint. It's simply not true.

People can and do differ as to the quality of her most recent album (many like me think it's a career standout), but objectively speaking, I truly do not understand how she is somehow at a career lowpoint. It's simply not true.
Again, exactly.
MOST reviews and fan reviews of 24k have been very positive, and that's just the truth. This does not equate "going down in flames" by any means.
In case there's any question, I am not one of the "Spin Doctors". In fact, I doubt she has any. Her management team isn't smart enough to think of something like that.

Do they still have a deal with Warners/Reprise/other?
I really think they would need all five involved to have any chance of success. They're never going to shift huge numbers anymore, but that said you see the likes of Rod Stewart and others in their age bracket doing pretty well.
Sales aren't the be all and end all for them now, and as long as it's a good album that's all that really matters - but with decent promotion they could still do ok (hence people being annoyed at the Glastonbury news!).

A lot of speculation, accusations, and finger-pointing in this thread, despite the fact that this is all based on something Mick allegedly said. And, even if he did say something regarding the new album and Stevie's participation, without knowledge of his exact wording, we have no idea if this "Stevie's not on board" comment being attributed to him is even accurate.
For what it's worth, either Christine or Lindsey (I'm blanking on which) said just a couple of months ago, that Stevie has "assured" the band that she will be ready and available to participate in the album once they're ready to resume recording after the tour.
That quote was directly attributed. So I'm much more inclined to believe it than this latest rumored B.S.

I don't know if WB would give them a deal without Stevie being involved..."24 Karat Gold" just landed at #8 on the Billboard chart so FM should be able to do the same as long as Stevie participates.

Am not really a fan of her solo career (have a couple of her albums only) but that's great news that the album is doing so well:thumbsup:
I do wish her well with her solo stuff but do hope she can find time to record with FM. I reckon she will in the end;)

Baseless conjecture (well... if by baseless you mean, the band's history over the last 34 years). Some of these Christine/Lindsey songs will show up on a Lindsey solo album. Some will show up on a FM ep or greatest hits re-release to bolster another tour. In the meantime (HAHAHAHAHAHAH) Lindsey and Stevie will tour said solo projects. There will never be another FM album again. EDIT: Lindsey solo album should be titled "High & Mighty"

#8 isn't all that good in terms of sales. I don't think they will release it without her. That would not make sense on so many levels.
If marketed correctly, FMac could really have some stellar album sales. They certainly sold tickets very well.

It would be great if we could do a study. We could ask people who consider themselves "casual" Fleetwood Mac fans if they'd be interested in a release and tour of a Stevie-less Fleetwood Mac. It would be interesting to see what the results of that would be.

someone (a Ledgie?? I doubt the casual fans are going to buy a new FM album anyway. They'll just pick up The Greatest Hits.
Anyway, the argument is not whether people WANT Stevie on the album or not. Everyone would be glad to have her, but if she doesn't want to record, then I don't want them to wait any longer for her to maybe change her mind.
As for touring, there'd be no point in touring without her. They couldn't do it successfully. That's why it's good that they are raking up the money now and next year. I wish securing those proceeds would embolden the four of them to proceed knowing their financial security is not at stake, without Stevie.
As for publicity, just telling the whole story of why she hasn't recorded with them will get them interviews and newspaper articles. The media outlets can do a new spin on the bickering band that way.
Will WB want them without Stevie, probably not, but they could benefit from parting from WB anyway. It's more interested in their back catalog than the aging rockers today.

There's really no reason why we need only have ONE more album anyway. They can do one now and one in a couple of years. If Stevie doesn't want to record right now, I'm sure she'll come around in 2-3 years and that album can be the last hurrah. This one can be the penultimate. Michele

1. Stevie Nicks is still probably the biggest star of Fleetwood Mac. Could the band do it without her? Yeah, probably. The days of the hits are over (more a statement about the industry than the band), so it doesn’t really matter. Don’t think that they don’t all realize that at this point. But, I also think that they need to do at least one, probably two, more albums with that lineup. THAT’S Fleetwood Mac to most people, and to themselves. To NOT have another album with those five when they’re all active in the industry would be absurd. NONE of them want to be the hold-out, including Stevie.
2. I think Stevie WILL to do another Fleetwood Mac album, but she can’t exactly say that when she’s promoting her latest solo album (an album of demos most fans already had that was recorded in a couple of weeks) while also being on tour with Fleetwood Mac (i.e. NOT promoting the album as a solo artist). Management wants to please labels who invest in artists, even in today’s limited music buying market.
3. Mick couldn’t even shut up about Christine coming back. Not that he needed to. We all figured out it was actually going to happen by that point. But, you know they wanted to make the announcement on the Today show, not at a Mick Fleetwood Island Blues Band or whatever show in Hawaii, a couple of months before the official announcement.
4. Given THIS, of course Stevie’s not going to formally, or informally, commit to a Fleetwood Mac record while still promoting a solo album. How effing stupid would that be? Every word she speaks to the press right now has to come back somehow on her album THAT’S ACTUALLY out. That’s a simple management move that is completely understandable.
5. Am I the only one studying the chemistry between them? Stevie is CLEARLY happy being with those people. She probably agreed to do a solo album very early in last year’s tour, not expecting Christine would actually rejoin the band.
6. I’m not the biggest Stevie fan in the world (I wanted a Christine-Billy ONLY album, to be honest, because their voices sound amazing together), but I refuse to see drama where I seriously doubt it exists. Stevie’s being more than a team player in my eyes. Most in her position would at least make the band do a few songs from the new album that’s actually out right now. She hasn’t done that. She’s being a team player. She could have easily prevented this tour from happening, but didn’t, precisely because she wants this, a full “classic” Fleetwood Mac reunion, to happen as much as the rest of us.

I'm not getting why making a commitment to do a FM album has anything to do with her solo album. Her solo album is already done and out. You seem to emphasize this conflict and I just don't see it. Making such a commitment to the band doesn't interfere with her promotional efforts for the solo album in any way (which are minimal anyway) as any recording sessions and especially album release are a long long way off.
Also, Stevie made it clear that she decided to do a solo album when she realized she had a few months off earlier this year before tour rehearsals.
And just because she's gung ho for the tour doesn't mean she's game for doing an album. There hasn't been any indication that that's something she really wants to do. Touring and recording are completely different things.
It doesn't sound like something a team player would do when the other 4 people want an album and are already well underway on one and, whether she wants to or not, the band feels they still need to convince her to do it. Leaving them hanging like that is not team player behavior.

Saying she plans to do an FM album in the next year or two would have no bearing on 24 Karat Gold sales or promotion. First of all, the FM tour is helping her 24K publicity, so she's already talking about FM when she promotes her solo album anyway. It's not like a movie actor who is trying to promote a small indie film, but people keep asking him about the next blockbusters Avengers film he'll be in. Saying yes she plans on doing an FM album in the future, but hasn't recorded any tracks yet will in no way detract from 24K publicity.
And it's not like any fans are going to say, "What? She has an FM album coming out in 2016? Well, then I won't buy this solo album, today. I'll just wait for the FM album."

Because of where the focus needs to be right now. One doesn't talk about an album that might get made, or even HAS been made but not released, while promoting an album that's actually out. That's not fair to the label that has actually invested in the album that is actually out right now.
Also, Stevie made it clear that she decided to do a solo album when she realized she had a few months off earlier this year.
I read that as after John got a cancer diagnosis. I think she expected John to get better and that they'd make up canceled dates, and that she had some time to do a solo album. I think Christine rejoining expedited her solo project (and probably the band's return).

The minute she agrees to do a Fleetwood Mac album, every interview will be about that. Right now, at least she can talk about Christine being back and about her solo album that's actually out now (as opposed to an album that might possibly come out in the next few years).
She owes her label some type of exclusive promotion for that album. She's already not touring the record. Any talk about her album won't happen if she even hints at being ready to be completely on board for a new Fleetwood Mac album. Questions in interviews will immediately go to "So, how's new Fleetwood Mac album going" instead of focusing on her new album.
And it's not like any fans are going to say, "What? She has an FM album coming out in 2016? Well, then I won't buy this solo album, today. I'll just wait for the FM album."
Fans are a strawman. Fans will be there for whatever. They're trying to sell the album to anybody that will buy it. Fans either already have it or are planning on getting it. It's the super casual, not-even-a-Fleetwood-Mac-fan they're marketing to.

It won't be about that when she hasn't worked on the album yet. There's nothing she can tell them about it, because it doesn't exist and won't exist for at least a year. So, it won't dominate the promotion at all. Frankly, the talk about Christine's return is of more interest to the media than a new FM album and so she does answer Christine questions when talking about 24k, but neither Christine or the FM tour discussion eclipses her efforts to promote 24K.
When she was doing the TISL promotion, the FM album was more concrete. She even SAID that she'd given Lindsey all of those demos to work on. No interviewers asked her, "What type of songs did you give him? Fast or slow? When will the album be finished? Did you give him demos from songs that fans may know already?"
I know what kind of conflict you're describing. It's like Robert Downey Jr. trying to promote The Judge, but having the press just keep asking him about Iron Man and Avengers II, so that no one pays attention to The Judge at all. That's the kind of conflict you're saying exists with Stevie and an FM album, but it really doesn't.

Christine brings up the fact that they've worked on stuff already and NO ONE CARES. She seems to bring it up in every interview (unsolicited) with nary a follow up question. That's regarding stuff that's already happened that she could easily talk about. Stevie saying she'll be part of an album at some later date that everyone else already has committed to is a non-issue as far as the media is concerned.

They recorded without Chris.
They certainly "could" record with out Stevie.
That's just not going to happen.
The problem with Lindsey and Stevie is that neither one of them wants to put their pride aside and admit how much the other one has played a role in their early success. Lindsey is a tortured genius who resents that it took an airy fairy spinning spoiled valley girl to make him a rock and roll superstar. Stevie is a great "Rough Draft" songwriter whose early compositions NEEDED Lindsey's arrangements to take them from "rough" to GREAT. Neither one would have become a rock superstar without the other! AND, it drives them nuts!

She actively toured to support TISL. It was easy to talk about a future Fleetwood Mac project, even in its abstract state, because she was ACTIVELY PROMOTING HER ALBUM BY DOING A PROMOTIONAL TOUR. That’s NOT the case with 24KG. There's a balancing act where Stevie has to be enthusiastic about the album and her photo exhibit, but also about Christine's return. There's not much time or ink space to talk much about anything else at this point.
That's the kind of conflict you're saying exists with Stevie and an FM album, but it really doesn't.
To us, yes. To the label, not so much, and Stevie owes the label something. Stevie owes the people who are working her album. Management and labels, tour or no tour, have to work albums, and it's always easier for them if the big project people are clamoring for is put on the back-burner until an album's cycle is complete. I know this from personal experience of having worked in the industry. If that means making Mick sweat bullets for a few months, so be it.
Do you honestly believe that there's a remote chance Stevie Nicks won't be on the next Fleetwood Mac album? Do you honestly believe that she did an album of previously leaked demos (most of which she found on YouTube) in less than a month (fastest album she's ever done) for any other reason than she wanted to fulfill a contract so that she could spend the foreseeable future with Fleetwood Mac?

Thank you for being the voice of reason. Fleetwood Mac will NEVER record an album without Stevie. It's simply outside of the realm of possibility. I would like to read the transcript or hear a recording of Mick saying she's "not on board". I suspect this was taken out of context. Mick is probably pissed off the she's releasing a solo record at all, right now. He resented "In Your Dreams" and actually stated in the media that she could be making more money with Fleetwood Mac. Mick is all about the cash grab.
Moreover, it would be SO EASY to get a new 12 track Fleetwood Mac album out. The Chris/Lindsey tracks are practically done. Hell, Stevie could phone in her songs at this point (think "Mirage" or "Tango"). If she wants Dave to produce them, just have him come into the studio for about 3 weeks to record 3 Stevie Nicks songs, and you're done. Have Stevie spend another 2 weeks laying down raspy background vocals on Chris and Lindsey's song, shake a tambourine on selected tracks, and PRESTO: YOU HAVE AN ALBUM. This is not rocket science and we're not curing cancer here. This band is FULL OF DRAMA QUEENS !!!!!!

Sounds to me like she wanted to do something solo following last year's FM tour, but then the Christine thing happened and her time was significantly cut short. So she called up Dave and asked how she could make a quick album. If this was a contractual obligation we'd have heard about it. Like when Weird Al put out his latest album and they mentioned in all the articles and interviews that it completed his recording contract. We've heard no such thing from anybody that suggests she was forced to do this and that she did it for any other reason other than she wanted to do it. Considering she went a whole ten years without making an album on the same contract I doubt her record label is all that demanding on the timing of her releases. And I seriously doubt her record label would be force her to release an album knowing she couldn't promote it. She's still under contract and she's still going to make albums in the future. This was her decision.
Again, she doesn't have to make a huge announcement. It would probably just come out at a meet and greet with Mick and quickly pass until the time comes that they're actually working on the album. You're making up issues that don't exist.

Going by what she said at the time, she felt that Fleetwood Mac needed to tour, and then take three years off. I think this album came about when she thought Fleetwood Mac was going to take three years off.
but then the Christine thing happened and her time was significantly cut short. So she called up Dave and asked how she could make a quick album.
Yep. We're on the same page thus far....
If this was a contractual obligation we'd have heard about it.
Like when Lindsey said that reason Stevie wasn't in the studio with the others is because she had other commitments?
Like when Weird Al put out his latest album and they mentioned in all the articles and interviews that it completed his recording contract.
Because Weird Al is part of something bigger than himself, like Stevie is with Fleetwood Mac?
We've heard no such thing from anybody that suggests she was forced to do this and that she did it for any other reason other than she wanted to do it.
Sure. She totally wanted to do an album of songs that had previously been leaked in demo form on YouTube, THAT SHE FOUND ON YOUTUBE, do it faster than ANY album she's ever done in her 41 year recording career, all while the woman she offered $5 million to rejoin Fleetwood Mac to actually rejoined Fleetwood Mac. I guess you're right. Even by Fleetwood Mac's standards more ridiculous things have happened.
Considering she went a whole ten years without making an album on the same contract I doubt her record label is all that demanding on the timing of her releases.
Maybe she did it so that she didn't have to worry about the contract at all? You know, so she could focus the next however many years focusing on Fleetwood Mac and having that behind her.
And I seriously doubt her record label would be force her to release an album knowing she couldn't promote it. She's still under contract and she's still going to make albums in the future. This was her decision.
Maybe, but right now, she has an album she's promoting while also promoting the return of Christine McVie. I commend her for that juggling act, but she still at least owes the label the chance to have this album be her sole focus in terms of immediate releases. Muddying things up with potential future releases right now makes no sense. We might want it, but it makes no sense right now.
Again, she doesn't have to make a huge announcement. It would probably just come out at a meet and greet with Mick and quickly pass until the time comes that they're actually working on the album. You're making up issues that don't exist.
From experience of seeing things like this first hand, even something as innocuous as a roadie mentioning an album can quickly blow up on the internet. I know from having spent the last four years in the business, up close and about as personal as it gets.

Would WB prefer her to be touring with FM and generating increased sales for the FM catalog or touring for a new Stevie album? Either way she's promoting something for WB.

Maybe Stevie is hurt they didn't wait for her. Chris comes back and now Lindsey and Chris are the best of friends. We all know the "Musical Love" of Stevie's life is Lindsey. This may have very well struck a nerve. I think the three songwriters are so confident in their work, they know each are despensable. Ego's are a fragile part of them so it seems.

Indeed.
Seems a bit like PR to me as well as it does fly in the face of earlier comments about them getting the album out early 2015. (When I typed that I mistakenly typed 2105--- how ironic!)
He's walking it back. He may be just parsing his words… maybe they didn't 'expect' it to be out sooner, but they sure as hell 'hoped' it would be, given their earlier comments.

Lindsey isn't one to pull punches (note his little aside that Stevie being "otherwise engaged" has been a "running commentary these days.").

They haven't mentioned "early 2015" for months now, and instead began saying that they hoped to have it out "sometime after this tour."
I think the minute they (and their managers) saw that this tour was selling out, they began to discuss adding dates in early 2015. Shifting their time-table for the album, of course.

At the meet and greet in Boston, Mick said that there had "never been any doubt" that they would go to Europe on this tour.
Plus, I couldn't imagine them getting Christine back and then not going to Europe. So, I don't think the early 2015 date holds... or ever really did when they set out to tour.

It makes the most financial sense for them, (and for the album). To tour the crap out of "Chris is Back", then release and album and tour on it's back. The whole process would likely take 2-3 years. With the group....possibly riding off into the sunset at that point.

You don't think this is his way of strong arming Stevie into recording? It seems he has wanted a new Mac album with all of his being for several years now, and that sentiment has only exponentially magnified since Christine's return. I completely agree that Lindsey firmly steps around making proclamations until they're tested & ready to go- but this could just be his desperation talking this time. For what it's worth, I think you're right- Lindsey doesn't mince words when it comes to these sorts of announcements. Whereas if it had been Mick, we could not take this at face value.

No, I don't think so. Like I mentioned earlier, Lindsey said months ago that Stevie had "assured them" she'd be ready and available to record after the tour. To me, Lindsey's newest statement just seems like further confirmation of that.

I take his comments as meaning he expects Stevie to participate, not that she's committed to doing so yet. They're not unlike his comments about a BN album. It will happen ... some day.
Christine, in the past, has also said that Stevie would put in her parts on the album eventually. Stevie hasn't said that yet.
I eventually thought Stevie would get on board as well myself, just as I thought she would certainly tour when Mick gave that Playboy interview. He knew she was going to do it all along, but was pressing for a commitment. That's what I thought this whole album thing was like. I feel differently now about her being on the album, because the new tour dates have been released. Once this tour ends, I don't see Stevie participating in an album after the tour.
The best bet for her participation would have been between two segments of a tour. Now, when this tour ends in 2015, I don't see them getting her in the studio for another 2 years. Saying they might do an album in 2017 is as good as saying there are no album plans at all, really. So, if they think they will be doing an album in 2015, I wish they would say so. If it's 2016, say that. If there are actually concrete plans out there, I wish they'd say so. They need a deadline and if Stevie isn't willing to commit by that deadline, I hope they are willing to go forward, anyway.

Yes I honestly believe she had other reasons for doing the album. I think she wanted it out in time for the FM tour. And I think the "foreseeable future" she plans on spending with FM ends when the tour ends. Unless she can be coerced into doing an album -- which hasn't happened yet.
The conflict between the promotion of FM and the promotion of a Stevie solo album really has never existed. If there was ever a tension between what WB wanted Stevie to promote, it might have been back when Bella Donna debuted, but it really has never existed since then. Stevie has always talked about FM projects at the same time she has promoted her solo stuff.

True. Indeed, the fact that she hasn't said she'll be part of an album that everyone else in the band is talking about is what would be the only issue for the media, if they picked up on the omission. That is when they would ask follow up questions about the not-to-be album. Stevie saying, "Yes, when this tour is over, FM is going to release an album," would not even create a blip in any 24K interviews.

No offense meant to anyone, but I think folks are reading way too much into things. Twice now, Lindsey has said that Stevie will be participating/has assured the band of such -- and we're still debating whether or not she's really given a commitment, only because she hasn't confirmed it to the press.
I firmly believe that if Stevie had not given some form of concrete commitment to the band, in regards to this album, Lindsey would be saying, "We still don't know if Stevie's going to participate, but we're not going to allow this music to fall through the cracks."
If Fleetwood Mac is certain she's going to participate, there's really no reason for us to believe otherwise. Whether she's bothered to say as much in her interviews, or not.

I'd be reassured if Lindsey did say that. If it comes out either way, that's great news to my ears.
Lindsey kept saying that the EP songs (and the other recorded ones) would come out in one form or another, because that's what he wanted to happen. But Stevie never concurred and her silence ended up being prophetic then. So, I think it means something now.
But I don't really care if she's in or she's out. I just want there to be an album, even if she's out.

Lindsey kept saying that the EP songs (and the other recorded ones) would come out in one form or another, because that's what he wanted to happen.
As we all know, circumstances changed -- and, in a relatively short amount of time after 'EP' was released, Christine began making overtures about rejoining the band. I'm sure the second her comeback seemed like a very real possibility, the idea of releasing more of the Mitchell Froom tracks, beyond those on 'EP,' got put on the back-burner.
But Stevie never concurred and her silence ended up being prophetic then. So, I think it means something now.
That's not entirely true -- Stevie mentioned in some of the TV interviews prior to the start of the 2013 tour, that she was open to recording and releasing a couple songs here and there, but was still unsure about recording a full album.
Either way, I still don't believe her hesitance then is indicative of her feelings now. Whether she's bothered to publicly state that or not.
Things that are true in any given moment with this band, aren't necessarily true in the next. Twice now, we've been told by one member or another, that this particular line-up was "never getting back together" -- and then it happened. There was a long period of time when Stevie doubted she'd ever record another solo album -- and then she did, twice. A few years ago, Mick didn't believe Fleetwood Mac would ever tour again -- and they've had two massive tours since.
Things change.

Without a confirmation from Stevie or even any of the band members saying they have confirmation from Stevie, comments like Lindsey's could just be like many on this board who assume Stevie will take part because why wouldn't she? Lindsey's comment could be interpreted that way while Mick's, which are contradictory to Lindsey's, can really only mean that they don't yet have an agreement in place. Only they know the truth of it at this point.

Again, no desire to wade into speculation, but just one more fact to throw out there: earlier this year Dave Stewart pretty clearly and unequivocally stated that Stevie was committed to FM, and "will" record with the band once the tour is over. He posted this on Facebook in response to an obnoxious comment about Stevie's noncommittal attitude.

Stevie mentioned that she was willing to throw some songs out there, which is what they did with the EP. She never said she was willing to do an album.
The point is, it's not like Stevie has been keeping a low profile. She's not shy. She's omnipresent and loquacious. She's the one who has been doing the most interviews. She's the one whose participation is in question and she's the one who has not confirmed her participation in the album that all the other band members have talked about.
I am just not ready to say that Lindsey can speak for Stevie on this subject. In fact, the argument, "Well, Lindsey said Stevie would so that means she WILL even if she hasn't said so," is ludicrous to me. I don't think he speaks for her any more than she speaks for him.
But I don't care whether she is on board with them or not. I may have hoped for her participation at one point, I don't any longer, because her reluctance has dampened my hopes for the collaboration. I just hope the album comes out, with or without her. That's the only confirmation I'm interested in hearing.
As for your wide-ranging observation that things change: Yes, they do. That's why I'm afraid, because once this tour is over all bets are off. I hope they commit to something concrete, before the tour ends. Otherwise, it might be years before they reconvene.

Oh, it's just like the Playboy interview. They assumed that Stevie would tour, but she hadn't obligated herself. They felt that they had already waited a year and Mick wanted some commitment, so he gave that interview and then Stevie did commit. They thought she would, but she had not yet. I feel that we're in the same place. The scary part is that back then Stevie just made up a 3 year break from FM. She fully planned to tour, she just said she had a rule about waiting 3 years.
She may plan to participate in an FM album some time, the question is WHEN? We don't have another 3 years to spare.
She plans to animate Goldfish and the Ladybug. She plans a Three Birds of Rhiannon opera. I am also confident that she plans to record with FM again some time in the future. I'm just curious as to WHEN. If she's looking to wait until 2017 or 2018 to commit, then I would like the other 4 to do an album without her in the interim and then later the five can happily coalesce in 3 years.

well, if anyone from her camp follows anything on this site (remember the red cape comment?) then they will certainly become aware rather quickly about the confusion and some of the sentiment surrounding her participation in another Mac album. Maybe this means sooner rather than later we'll get some crumb of direct acknowledgment from her in an interview.
Otherwise, like all things pertaining to FM, until it IS happening in real time, I for one reserve the right to some healthy skepticism. They've mucked us around before. I remain hopeful that the album will come to be, but cautiously skeptical for the moment. As we've all said, there's a lot on their plates right now, a lot between finishing this tour and starting an album, and that leaves a lot of wiggle room and time for things to go sour or whatever. That may be why Stevie is holding her tongue, or it may not be.

April 3, 1990, just days before Fleetwood Mac are set to release their first album without Lindsey Buckingham
Realistic Fleetwood Mac fan: I don't have a good feeling about Behind the Mask. And it's not just because Lindsey Buckingham is gone, either. I mean, who is Billy Burnette? Who is Rick Vito? Why even bother with a new album without such an integral part of what made your band so successful?
Optimistic FM fan #1: Excuse me? I didn't realize you could see into the future and that you were such an expert on music.
Optimistic FM fan #2: Yeah, do I really need to hear this kind of stuff right before their album is released? FM's music has been the soundtrack to my life for nearly two-decades, and Mick Fleetwood wouldn't have added Burnette and Vito to the band if he didn't think they were capable of generating the same success as when Buckingham was involved.
Optimistic FM fan #1: Totally. We should give it time before we write off this album. There are 13 songs to go! I'm excited about Burnette and Vito, and I think they can take FM to a whole new level! I look for this new album to equal or surpass the success of Rumours!
Optimistic FM fan #2: Yeah baby, 20 million copies! That's what we do around here!

Clearly there is since a commercial helped Everywhere back into the charts. Since Glee helped the Rumours album jump into the Top 10 on iTunes. Since Christine McVie re-joining was one of the biggest music news items of the year. Clearly people are interested enough in the band in the last few years to warrant new music.

Here's how I see it. There IS a market for music that appeals to the over 40 crowd; witness recent successes by Leonard Cohen (who never had a hit single), Barbra Streisand, Stevie's own 24 Karat Gold, etc. BUT, even the most successful albums these days sell a fraction of what a hit did in the pre-MP3 days, which translates to that market bringing far less $$ to the artists. So I figure SOMEONE in the band -- Stevie is the obvious best guess -- doesn't want to do it given the pay cut that's a part of being in today's music biz. She can put out a solo album and not have to be content with 1/5 of the money she'd make from a Mac album. I doubt Lindsey cares about making a ton of money from an album. Mick might. Christine, I dunno. But Stevie, absolutely.

There might not be a huge market but there is a market. I'd bet a new FM album would do better than that Say You Will or Stevie solo albums (at least chart-wise)- there's a lot more interest in the band now- even without Christine's return. With her back it moves things up another level. They aren't going to sell many millions but there's enough interest to push them to number 1.

Really? Where are they now?

Are we "hardcore fans" not a market? Are "casual music listeners" not a market? Are the "aged 40 and above" not a market? Are the "teens who recognize and appreciate older music/artists" (and yes, they DO exist) not a market?
Your bipolar attitude on this forum astounds me.
Hardcore fans, what kind of fans try and sabotage review ratings just because they are upset because certain demos were chosen or the album is getting better reviews then their favorites or because they want her to record with Fleetwood Mac. This great album is getting lower ratings the Other Side Of The Mirror. What a joke. She is not getting support from the industry or many hardcore fans.

I can only speak for myself, but I can honestly say that the only reason I gave 24KG three stars is because there are only 3, maybe 4 songs on it I enjoy enough to listen to more than a couple times. (They are "Lady," "The Dealer," "Watch Chain" which is only available digitally, and maybe "Hard Advice.") I guess I actually do like TOSM quite a bit better than 24KG.

Three stars seems appropriate for this album. When the songs are good, they are great. But they surface rarely, alongside a lot of unspectacular, forgettable music. Many of the songs are overlong, too.
However, all is forgiven with Lady--a song and performance worthy of a Grammy. One of her best.

It's almost bizarre how many people haven't questioned this source.
Well, since it was essentially corroborated in a Toronto newspaper, I don't think it's all that bizarre.

Waiting. Simple as that. Anytime that casual audience hears classic Mac, they buy it.
1) The EP (aside from being announced on tour and having little to no promotion besides appearing for one week on the front page of iTunes) had 4 tracks and not the full classic line-up. It failed to reach a success like SYW because at least that album was marketed properly.
2) The masses who want a full-on, classic Mac album obviously aren't going to go out in droves to get an odd sounding (to the casual listener) Lindsey album or a dated sounded Stevie record of songs 'from the vault'. Those types of albums hardly ever shift great numbers which is why it was mind-boggling to see that tagline as part of the title instead of just '24 Karat Gold'.
3) Because of Glee, Rumours re-entered at the album charts at #12. Astounding feat considering how old that record is. Downloads accounted for 91% of that. In AUS, it went to #2. Then on top of that, take in the actual Glee versions of tracks which were all over the singles chart. If they can market this new project even remotely like they did for SYW (complete with Christine now being involved) this album will be a guaranteed Top 3 hit, I'd bet my life's savings on it.
4) Everywhere got to #15 on the UK singles chart last year because of that commercial with the moon-walking horse.
My point is, the Mac won't have an issue because that audience for the MAC (non-solo) is always there. It's the same reason why they're non-stop trending since the tour begin, why they've been plastered all over the news since Christine's return. It's season of the Mac.
Just because Stevie's album didn't do astonishing numbers doesn't attribute to there not being an audience. It's because it's a "vault" album and on top of that, aside from a generous few, mostly only hardcores are going to really dig and appreciate an album of rarities. That's just the plain, honest truth. Not to mention its marketing (which could've done wonders if they'd actually establish more than several TV dates and an actual online campaign other than twitter clips) sucked complete ass.

Just hope that when the time comes they don't follow U2 and dump their album on every iTunes user in the world. They will need, however, a very carefully planned PR campaign to do good numbers and get industry hype. I think it starts with bringing another producer on board that's not Lindsey.

I agree. What were they thinking?! I had one friend who always buys the latest Mac product tell me that he didn't buy it because he didn't understand this "songs from the vaults" thing. I had to explain to him it really is an album proper in every sense--and then I bought it for him for his birthday.

Agreed. I wonder who would get media attention. As many know, I've always pulled for Rhett Davies (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqgIZCw-lbI), Jon Brion (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0__bU8O7Pw), Richard X (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdSxIuk0hTI), Timbaland (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8ygKnBtKAk), Jam-Lewis (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRm00quEilA), Xenomania (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8mw5i43-uQ), Chris Isaak (https://vimeo.com/7123810), and, I have to now admit, Dave Stewart (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KcnEcGZZIrA). But none of those are going to happen--and maybe only Timba would create buzz--but all would create a more marketable sound.

If they brought in somebody else to produce then I think they should steer away from the obvious (Mitchell Froom, Dave Stewart) and aim for something/someone a bit edgier.
I'd suggest Stephen Street, Mark Ronson, or Danger Mouse. Perhaps even Nile Rodgers, Pharrell or Xenomania. I guess it would be dependent upon who would be available at any one time, though.

We'll like I said before there is no accounting for taste and some people just don't have any. If Fleetwood Mac made Rumours 2, some people would find reason to complain.

Who Who and who.The names did not ring a bell until I Googled them up. If Mac wants a hit. They probably have to go with these young producers.
They need a hit maker.
I know some of us are not a Dave Stewart fan but I would not mind seeing him work with the Mac and get the job done quick.
Or they can call in the past producers that worked with them.

Stevie has a lot of songs on 24k that should be played all over the radio. Not happening. Ageism is alive and well in Rock N Roll.

This topic somehow reminds me of how last year when Lindsey said "she can't just come and go" a lot of folks around here took that as meaning his ego was too big to let Christine rejoin, when that wasn't the case at all.

True. That's usually the basic reaction to his psychobabble. He's easily misunderstood.

apparently Lindsey would not even hold her hand anymore during final bows in Columbus, he just held both his hands behind his back.
i have this mental image of the 4 of them swarming around SN before/after every show and going "say you'll record with us as soon as this tour is finished" and her saying "no no no no no!".

Stevie just needs to hand in 4 piano and voice demo's, let LB play with it, hire a studio for a month, plant Christine in between them, and let them finish it.

Amen! If she's worried about LB highjacking her songs, just give him four decent ones and keep the best for herself--exactly what she's been doing since 1982.
The problem is I suspect she doesn't have a lot of songs left and is afraid to give up any new material, as each new song she would write would likely be precious to her.
I understand her fears: she associates LB and Mac record-making with all kinds of dysfunction and abuse. But it's only a handful of songs! Just write something already. Or go into the studio and say, hey--let's cowrite together.

I don't think it's that simple. If this album is going to be good, they need outside producer(s), not Lindsey Buckingham. His production did not do favors to many good songs on Say You Will. I'm tired of his over produced, distorted vocals. I think they need a fresh sound, yet someone who understands how important Mick and John are to the music. I'm not crazy with how the songs sound on the EP or SYW...I'm having a hard time describing what it is exactly, the synthesizers, the "adult-contemporary-ness," having too much going on, etc.

^^the mixing is wonky and the whisper vocals on the ep. on syw, the problem is only that each song follows the same structure (well, especially stevei's songs)...skeletal then cacophonous. EVERY song.<--and yet it's still my fav american album of the 00s. I think my second fav is David Morales' TWO WORLDS COLLIDE. I'm eclectic like that.

were you there ? or did this come from your best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend who heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl who works at 31 Flavors ?
It's a ridiculous premise; there was no bargaining chip there . Fleetwood Mac just came off last year's tour, and wasn't even thinking of another tour, that is, until Christine entered the picture. Stevie was not holding out for Christine; no one had no idea that Christine was coming back.
Lindsey and Christine have got the ball rolling on the album. Since they are on tour now, the album is on hold for now. As Mick (or was is it Lindsey) stated, that when the tour is over, they'll get back to recording the album, and Stevie will put her touch on it. It's not going to be a SAY YOU WON"T album with just Christine and Lindsey. Stevie has way too much ego to let that happen.
I wish someone would interview Stevie and ask her some pointed, assuming questions like "Are you excited to work in the studio with Christine again? Any chance of a collaboration? The world is waiting for this album. Have you written anything special for the album? We're really looking forward to those classic harmonies between you, Lindsey and Christine." Hopefully all the endless and useless speculation would end and we'd get some clear indication about what's going on in her big convoluted head.

I liked the guy who produced "Love Shines" and "Heart of Stone." Someting contemporary yet organic like that would be great.
