Wow, holy crap. So the first time since 1988 that Stand Back isn't part of the set. Seven Wonders and Little Lies are present. No Brown Eyes even though that had been brought up, in fact, No Christine Tusk track at all (seems a bit bizarre given the Tusk section is still present). Chain and Dreams apart in the set for the first time in ages. Sara dropped but Gypsy remains. No Hold Me. Over My Head returns despite being dropped in time for The Dance tour.
Definitely an interesting set.

Very interesting. Wonder if this was taken today as it indicates on the photo that it was the setlist as of September 15th.
Too bad that it seems that 'Brown Eyes' was taken off...there should be a Christine song thrown in the 'Tusk' section.
And, of course, let's hope 'Hold Me' is still in there...Good to see 'Gypsy'.

So it looks pretty evenly distributed. 8 songs a piece (World Turning counting as the 8th track for McVie/Buckingham).

I am THRILLED that "Stand Back" is OUT of the set. It has no place in a MAC set.
On the other hand, WHAT HAPPENENED TO "Hold Me" and "Brown Eyes".....WHAT A BUMMER !!!!!! These were two of the set list RARITIES that I was SO looking forward to.

Besides the addition of Christine's songs and Seven Wonders really not much difference between last 2 tours. Hold Me and Brown Eyes would have been welcomed by long time fans.

Maybe, just maybe...since they had these backups in their back pocket...maybe they will rotate Hold Me and Brown Eyes in and out of the set from night to night?
I think playing a corporate gig as a soft opener for a tour is a tough spot to be in. If they played Brown Eyes in Chicago, I bet half the place went to the bathroom and they got cold feet as a result.

Wishful thinking. But when has this band ever done anything like that? The set list is usually set in stone, except for when they drop a song. I'm so happy Stand Back is gone for now. It's alright, it alright!

Over My Head is a beautiful studio track...one of my fav. Christine songs. But live...never worked great. It might be interesting if they 'rock' it up like they did on the Live 1980 album.
Gypsy is okay live however, like Dreams, it lacks the studio magic that makes it so special on the album.

Gypsy is okay live however, like Dreams, it lacks the studio magic that makes it so special on the album.
Playing Over My Head the way they did back in the 70's (as represented on the Live album) is the only way that the song will be an interesting/good choice. The Dance DVD version (which, if this is correct, is likely what we will get), was a complete snoozefest.
Gypsy could have (and should have IMO) stayed off for this tour. Stevie is unable or unwilling to hit so many of the high notes that make the song tolerable live. I completely agree that like Dreams, this one just never translates very well to the stage. The Mirage video version is interesting and includes some incredible playing by Buckingham at the end, and I really liked the version on the Dance DVD....but other than that, blah!
Hold Me was a major hit...Like #4 or something. Leaving it out is a big mistake.
I agree...I can't believe they dropped (maybe, nothings confirmed yet) this one yet again. It is a great song with a memorable video and while people will complain that it was ragged or not so polished on the Mirage Tour, with the "Mini-Mac" army that they have up on stage ever since The Dance, there's no reason they haven't resurrected this one.

Hold Me and Brown Eyes would have been much better than Over My Head. They would have been great surprises for the diehard fans, especially Hold Me.

Dreams did translate very well in the 70s. The live videos of Stevie at the peak of her vocal ability were fabulous. I think it's one of the band's very best songs...maybe, just maybe, Christine's voice will improve what many here feel has become very stale.
Bummed about Hold Me and Brown Eyes. Over My Head is not one I wanted to see in this list. Not when she could also be doing Oh Daddy, Why, or Isn't It Midnight. It's going to sound very Adult Contemporary like Say You Love Me and won't rock at all. Disappointed...especially after the most recent leaked setlist of 26 songs really looked the most promising. Blue Letter is so much fun as well. Well, let's see how they sound. I guess Little Lies and Seven Wonders are the ones to look out for, since they haven't been done in eons...oh, and also Christine's current voice.

Honey, you got that RIGHT! I've been "needing to be standin' in" THAT LINE at Stevie/FM concerts for over 30 years now". Let's give that tired broken down horse a REST!! Thanks for giving us a little sympathy and cutting it. I guess somebody in the band talked some sense into the High Priestess. "Stand Back" is the most overrated Stevie Nicks song ever recorded. It was fun for a few years in the 80's, but it sounds VERY dated now. Moreover, it CERTAINLY DOES NOT belong in a Fleetwood Mac set.

It's pretty weird that Brown Eyes was dropped. It was confirmed months ago and basically guaranteed to be performed on this tour. If they did play it at that ridiculous billionaire birthday party last week, I hope a clip emerges.
Also, Hold Me was cited in recent articles like USA Today as part of the set.

I am shocked that nothing is really out yet...heck, when the Stones toured over the last few years, those songs were showing up in full versions on YouTube within a song or two of finishing.
I could never tape it with my phone (other than a few seconds here and there)....I'd be bouncing around too much and singing in a not so good manner!

There's a video of the full "Seven Wonders" on Facebook. Arrangement is basically the same as the 1987 live version. Stevie sounded great. Her current voice works well with the song. Great to hear Lindsey and Christine on it. So glad it's in the set, and I hope they don't drop it!

I'd really like to hear a longer clip of the song and more of her on other songs to be able to judge better.
Ditto. I am crossing my fingers! There's no doubt she can still sing in the studio. I'm just hoping she can handle the rigors of the tour.

Her singing voice sounded fine to my untrained ears. Her speaking voice was hoarse however when she addressed the audience.

When the loving starts and the lights go down ...
I came to Minneapolis and tossed my hat in the air, like Mary Tyler Moore. After that, I suddenly found myself with lots of free time on my hands, so I went to see Fleetwood Mac.
You guys will be listening to the Youtube clips. They never capture the sound of a real concert, but their existence makes it unnecessary to describe the songs, which I could not adequately do anyway. So, I won't concentrate on that.
I like looking at the stand besides Christine's keyboard. It holds maracas, a bottle of water and two cups with lemon on the rim.
The show started before 8:30. John and Mick were out first. John was wearing a red silk vest that looks like it was cut from one of Lindsey's old kimonos. He was very thin, but not in an unhealthy way. I think it's good for him to be this size. He was his same old self and stood the entire night.
Lindsey emerged from his side of the stage. Stevie and Christine came out from the other side. They clasped hands and Stevie nods and smiles at Christine, as she takes her place behind the keyboards.
THE CHAIN. It sounded good. I can't say that it sounded better than it has without Christine there. Her voice didn't stand out on it, the way it did in the old days.
As YMLF starts, the audience erupts in rousing applause and Christine smiles. Christine and Stevie sing together (which they did on OMH too, so all you Straight Back fans who wanted to hear them alone together, you get your wish). Lindsey concentrates on his guitar. The song sounds delicious. It's not even one of my favorites, but I've missed hearing it so much these last 17 years.
Stevie addresses the crowd. Welcome Minneapolis. She says that it's the first of 40 shows that they're going to do -- 40 so far, she indicates. She says this is opening night and opening night is always crazy, even when you're not welcoming someone that you love back into the fold. Anything can happens, She says there's never going to be another show like this first night. So, hold onto your horses and let's get this party started.
DREAMS. Stevie is wearing her short black boots and her rarely seen, shapely calves are on display. Christine and Lindsey play and nod at each other throughout. Lindsey smiles broadly at her, grins of encouragement and delight.
SHN. Then Stevie leaves the stage briefly and returns with her RHIANNON shawl, as the familiar bass kicks in. Her mic pac is not on the side of her dress. It's on the back, now. So, she can't constantly fiddle with the audio any longer.
There is nothing, however, impeding Lindsey from continuing to beat his crotch with his guitar as he stands by Mick's drumkit, so he goes at it like a yeoman.
When she's only singing back up and not lead, I see Christine chew gum and then remove it. Maybe it's Nicorette.
For the next song, stage hands hurriedly set up a third mic on the stage. Chris comes onto the floor and says Good Evening. She wants to thank John, Mick, Stevie and Lindsey for making her dream come true and letting her come back. [Yeah, you better thank them! They could've just said no. They could've said, well you just can't] It's a chance you don't get often in life, she says. Her speaking voice is raspy, but I didn't notice that in her singing voice. Lindsey and Stevie beam at her, as she speaks. Christine says, "That's enough. Mick?" Mick begins the song: EVERYWHERE.
It sounds lovely. It's not a snoozefest, as some had said, at all. I can't wait until they hear it in England. They will be moonwalking like the pony.
It's here that the canned vocals become most notable to me. Stevie and Lindsey are singing "ahhh" but the recorded voices are saying "oooh."
Lindsey's been quiet so far.
Either those women have cowed him or his leggings are tighter than ever and they're cutting off his speech-making ability. At any rate, he finally breaks free and speaks to the audience for the first time. "We are indeed very pleased to be back with you tonight." He says that this band continues to evolve through good times and bad [hmmm, I wonder if they've had some bad times recently] and they are in their latest, beautiful, profound and poetic chapter "now that this lady is back with us." He said this chapter will go on for awhile and will yield new fruit. "I know I'm not wrong." Clever intro. We get a beautiful, spirited rendition of IKINR.
The back screen shows a black and white image of Lindsey's head. He's got facial stubble in the film clip. He's mouthing the "dah dah dah dah dah" on the screen. His expression is robotic, mechanical. His eyes a little glassy. As the real life Lindsey bounds about the stage, full of energy, this recorded Lindsey sings too, in a manner that is eerie and fun.
After the song, I see the accordion being strapped onto Christine and I'm excited simply by the gesture. Christine is back on the floor. TUSK She, John and Lindsey don't huddle in a trio like they've done in the past, but instead Christine and Lindsey face off coming towards each other excitedly, as they play. The USC marching band stomps across the screen behind them, trumpets raised.
SOTM is next and I enjoy it much more than the last tour. Stevie is intense at the end. Shouting, so we make our choices, when there is no choice. We listen to their voices and we ignore our own voice. She lets loose and then brings it back with "sistahhhhh." The word "sister" is quieter than her fiery verses were and I think it highlights the emotion. I'm not saying that this is the rocker it used to be, but it's still a song that brings the heat. Very pleased with it.
Christine counts off, 1, 2, 3, 4 and we get SYLM. It's the old version, not the Dance version. It's simply beautiful. I tend to focus on the three singers, but really it's the five of them. There's this electric feeling during the song. They not only sound good, but they KNOW they do. There's a shared recognition as they sing and play and glance at their bandmates. They sound good together and each one realizing and reveling in that fact individually, makes them even more united falling, falling, falling. I find it so powerful. It's the rapture I've sought.
SEVEN WONDERS sounds great. Stevie is smiling and peppy. You guys, she is definitely saying Aaron or Era. There's that vowel sound. She is not saying Sara or Terra. There's no consonant in front. Stevie ends the song happily. Says, "Thank you, American Horror Story."
Everyone leaves the stage and Lindsey is all alone. He introduces the first song from TITN, which was an album that came out "quite awhile ago, now." He reflects back on what his life was then and it wasn't so great. But now that's all changed, especially NOW with this new chapter in the band's life. With the beauty and evolution that's taking place now that Christine has rejoined the song is more than ever a meditation on the power and importance of change. [Ok Linds, does that mean your wife and three children aren't beautiful anymore?]
Stevie returns and she and Lindsey do LANDSLIDE. She dedicates the song to us, to our being there, for the first night of their tour. She changes one lyric from "I don't know" to "We don't know." She and Lindsey smile as she pauses on the snow covered hill. She points her finger at him. He cocks his head. They end the song and hold hands, before he pulls away to get his NGBA guitar.
Stevie strikes a pose and stands frozen with her arms outstretched to the side, as Lindsey sings the chorus. He does a hot breath closing, "never going down again, oooooh yeah," sounding rather like an obscene phone caller.
Christine returns and says tha she wrote the next song when she and John shared a funky little place in Malibu, "Remember that John" John gestures vaguely with his hands as if to suggest he might not remember, but I know better. Christine says she wrote the song when Stevie and Lindsey first joined the group [and ruined their lives] and it was the first single off of their album. OVER MY HEAD sounds wonderful. Christine and Stevie lock eyes. Lindsey gazes on, playing away from his mic.
I don't know why they have a problem starting the next song. There doesn't seem to be an audio problem. Stevie is looking at Mick and he's not doing much of anything. Did they forget what the next song is? I don't know what the hold up is. Mick taps his sticks together, bidding the audience to clap in rhythm. Finally, they perform GYPSY. The screen on back shows a brunette film noir lady and a man in a hat. It's raining, recreating Stevie and Lindsey from the video. They are stationary figures, but yet they move farther and farther apart from each other on the screen. In the end, they are close again. Hopefully, it's a metaphor for SnL. This woman was also in images that played behind Rhiannon. What is her deal? I suppose she's a stand in for Stevie, but why is her hair dark?
After the song, Stevie is laughing and talking into the mic. She says she forgot to say that this song is dedicated to her one and only husband, Kim. Yes, he's here, she says and Gypsy is for him. Was the beginning of the song stalled, because they were waiting for Stevie to give her intro and she forgot? I don't know.
Next they do LITTLE LIES. I guess the audience likes it. I like it, but it's not a high point for me. Again, the voice maneuvering is obvious. They give Stevie's voice an echo reverberation. Lindsey sounds nice on the chorus coming in with a deep "tell me lies."
GDW. Lindsey and Stevie still spark and spur each other, with Lindsey stamping his heel, "did she make you break down, shatter your illusions of love. Is it over now ..." part. Stevie always tells another little story with the ending. In the past, she sounded like a lost soul. She said, "you can't save me now" but she sounded like she wanted to be saved, needed the salvation. This time, more than anything else she is telling the person that they no longer have control over her. It's almost like the message in POTU. She says, "you can't take me now. You can't break me now. You can't take me. You wish you could take me, but you can't do it. You just can't do it." This time the message seems to be that she's out of this person's grasp. She has escaped.
ISA is explosive. I thought Christine would sing on it, but she doesn't. Stevie still does. Christine mouths the words, but not in her mic. Stevie leaves and Lindsey moves over to the other side (MY side) of the stage. The speaker goes up several volumes as he crosses over. Christine hasn't seem him do ISA from this vantage point in a long time. Does she know how exhilarating it is? How the crowd erupts, goes from sitting to standing and shouting? He stops at her piano briefly, before going into his extended solo and bringing down the house.
GYOW. Lindsey doesn't hug or bump John or kiss Stevie during the song, like he has in the past, but he does stop at Christine's piano a bit. Then, in the end, he and Stevie circle round the drum kit like in their past tours, before he jumps and brings the song to its end.
So, then Christine and Stevie come together, laughing and holding hands. I think they are remarking on the fact that Lindsey has just walked off the stage. He forgot they were supposed to pretend it was the end of the show. He comes back and Stevie says words to him and is laughing. He goes to the mic and says "you're the greatest. Thank you for coming. Good night" and then he walks off stage again. Christine and Stevie are laughing as if to say, "what is wrong with him?"
They return for WORLD TURNING. I thought Christine would be on the floor for this one, but she's not. She's behind her keyboards and also playing maracas and tambo. They leave. Mick has a drum solo, but it is not as long as it has been in the past. I'm on the other side of the stage and I can't see if Lindsey is sitting down over there or not. I think he left the stage. He comes back first and Christine and Stevie take awhile to return. He looks like he is wondering where they are. They finish the song.
Lindsey introduces the one and only "and there is only one" Mick Fleetwood. Mick introduces Lori, Sharon, Neale and Brett. I'm glad Brett still has multiple roles to play, even with Christine back.
He says that Stevie is their eternal romantic poet. Yes, that's what she is, he assures her, "live with it." He says Lindsey is a great mentor for the band and has a vision for their future. Are you saying he's a visionary, Mick? Because I've had enough of that ....
He says that the others have mentioned Christine's return before, but their Songbird is back and she has made them complete. They all blow kisses at each other.
He introduces John as always on his right. The backbone of FM and his partner in crime. No allusion to any illness or anything.
They do DON'T STOP [hey, why is Christine singing different words than Stevie used to sing??] and SILVER SPRINGS. They leave the stage.
I am thrilled when the stage crew pushes the baby grand piano onto the floor. Christine comes out and I'm surprised when Lindsey comes and takes a stool on the other side of the piano. Is John going to play with them, too? No, he doesn't.
They close the show after that. Mick doesn't collect Christine from the piano as in the past. Instead, they assemble to take their group bows. The piano blocks my view of them. Darn it! The others leave the stage and Stevie says, "it's just me. It's just me, now."
She says for their last tour, they did 66 shows and she said we were the dreamcatchers. She said that was true then, but now she thinks they are all dream catchers, because their dream girl is back. She said she would have bet every dollar that she had that Christine would never return, but now she has and Stevie is glad for us that it happened, glad for the band and glad for Minneapolis, the music city [I don't know about that]. She says goodnight.
Mick comes out and says he will keep it short and sweet. It's been an amazing night and he's glad we've shared its loveliness with FM. He says take care of ourselves, be kind to one another and now, "for sure THE MAC IS BACK."
I'll post my pictures when I can get them up.

Yes, at one point when the lights were down, the crowd used their telephones as their "lighters" and you saw all of these beams flickering. I turned around and saw it the way the band must see it from the stage. The crowd, the cheers. It was thrilling.

The full Fleetwood Mac is back with McVie
Article by: Jon Bream, Star Tribune
Gallery: http://www.startribune.com/galleries/277698231.html?type=overlay
You look for those little moments at a Fleetwood Mac concert.
Like when Christine McVie, back in the fold after a 16-year retirement, cracks a smile as the sellout crowd gives her a huge ovation after she sings her first line of the night. Or when Stevie Nicks and her ex, Lindsey Buckingham, exchange a glance, grasp one another’s hand and even share a hug. Or when McVie slaps her ex, John McVie, on the shoulder in a fond way.
Because Fleetwood Mac is rock’s famously fractured fivesome, you looked for those little signs Tuesday at Target Center, where the Rock Hall of Fame band launched its reunion tour with McVie.
Nicks hasn’t sounded this good since the early ’90s. Buckingham didn’t hog the spotlight as he did last year in St. Paul. McVie held her own, though her voice clearly doesn’t have arena oomph. And the band sounded terrific, as always. What a rhythm machine and what an articulate and emotional guitarist Buckingham is.
But, ultimately, this heyday incarnation — reassembled after some rocky years — came across as a democratic, respectful, polite and mostly sparks-free Fleetwood Mac. There weren’t any opening-night glitches. And the performance was never really tentative. But it was never really lived in. You’d love to see this band at least 10 shows into this 40-concert On With the Show Tour, especially because Tuesday’s opener was so encouraging.
The key thing that seemed to be missing was palpable camaraderie. Each lead singer stayed in his or her own space each time they sang. There were no sparks or even darts between Buckingham and Nicks, whose romantic tension has fueled Fleetwood Mac to superstardom since they joined the long-lived British/American band in 1975. To be sure, there were a couple of times on Tuesday when they turned toward one another — though they stood a good 20 feet apart — and sang pivotal lyrics as if they meant them. She was shooting lasers at him during “Silver Springs” as she proclaimed, “I know I could have loved you but you would not let me.”
Maybe a more telling moment about their relationship and this night came during “Landslide,” which is essentially a duet for them. Buckingham crept closer to Nicks than usual and when she hit the high note on “snow,” she rolled her eyes in disbelief that she could actually reach that note. He broke into a smile and suddenly there was an exchange of genuine emotion between them — even if their grasping of hands at the end seemed as much about showbiz as deep fondness.
The principal emotion during the nearly 2 ½-hour performance was the joy of having keyboardist McVie back in this group of graying veterans (who range in age from 65 to 71). She brought high harmonies and several songs, including “Little Lies,” “You Make Loving Fun” and the closing “Songbird,” back into the repertoire.
When drummer Mick Fleetwood introduced the band members, McVie received the night’s loudest and longest ovation. And Nicks, Buckingham and Fleetwood told the 17,000 fans how elated they were to have her back.
Nicks, who looked encouragingly at McVie all night, admitted she would have bet all her money that McVie would never return. Buckingham talked about this being the beginning of a new chapter with much new material to be written. Fleetwood declared: “Fer sure, the Mac is back.”
But only time will tell if this On with The Show Tour is a full-blown reunion, merely a victory lap or just a sense of closure for a oft-broken band before it retires.

Thanks for everyone posting videos, photos and stories. So exciting. The only disappointment is no Hold Me. But you know Fleetwood Mac is famous for always dropping or changing a few tunes from opening night.
Someone posted about Chris chewing gum and thought it was nicotine gum. She quit smoking in 1997 so that is unlikely. I am sure it was gum that had something in it to help her voice and throat so her voice could get through the night.
Mick was right...no solo stuff like stand back.

Anyone else notice Stevie sang the second verse of Seven Wonders first. Glad to see she still does this after all these years. In 1991 during Timespace tour she sang the 3rd verse to Outside the Rain 3 times over and over.

Michelle, you are so right in your review.... Say You Love Me is totally gorgeous! Christine's voice....wow.... and the harmonies...wow.....
Many people were so freaked out that this was going to be the acoustic Dance version. I thought it was pretty clear that version was just for that show/tour. But I did notice they kept the ending vocal arrangement.Typically it would end instrumentally.

I like the song better because it's more listenable. I'm not a big fan of the crazy shrill vocals of the original version. But she doesn't she doesn't that way anymore, thanfully. But she seems so serious singing it, as if under duress. Is she thinking "I have to sing this damn song when I should be singing Stand Back!"?

It would be a double-stroke of genius if they replaced the unfortunately dull "Over My Head" with "Hold Me" - and ditch "Gypsy" for "Sara." Ms. Nicks just cannot do justice to that song anymore -- she cannot hit any of the notes that made it so memorable, but she does a good job on "Sara."
And, for the life of me, I cannot understand why they refuse to play "Hold Me" -- it was one of their biggest hits ever, but I think everyone forgets about it because it comes from the forgettable Mirage album. Maybe they don't want to pay the co-writer on the song? Who knows...
Also - is it not stunning how much McVie's harmonies add to the songs? Don't get me wrong, I love Stevie Nicks, but her voice is not what it used to be, and the presence of McVie's silky-smooth vocals really helps a lot.

Seven Wonders in, Stand Back out. There is a god!
Right? :]
It's amazing how different the band sounds to me this year vs last. It's like Christine's presence has taken them from auto pilot to fighter pilot. Stevie seems to be singing way, way better. Lindsey's playing seems more fierce. It might just be me, but I hear way more of Fleetwood Mac itself & far less of the backing musicians. This hasn't been the case since 1982.
Of the "new" material, Seven Wonders & Little Lies were highlights for me. Seven Wonders transferred far better to Stevie's modern voice than I could have imagined. Finally hearing the full Rumours band perform Little Lies live actually brought tears to my eyes, and this was just from watching a youtube video. They even seemed to iron out the kinks in Sisters Of The Moon from last year's renditions.
Now if only we could get Tango In The Night, Hold Me, and Straight Back added, I'd be a truly happy man. :p

I think with less songs to sing this go around, I definitely hear in videos of Dreams and Sisters that Stevie is taking little liberties in the notes she hits, making changes here and there I guess because of the pitch change. That's great! I hope she keeps it up. She sounds WAY more confidence in the choices she makes while singing thus far.
Honestly, this is the best I've heard of Stevie since when I saw them in 2004 and her solo in 2005.

So that's all of Rumours bar IDWTK (of course) and Oh Daddy (THE most underrated gem of the album IMO). Same White Album tracks as were on The Dance DVD but with World Turning replacing Rhiannon. Other than that few surprises though I'm really not sure what Lindsey sees in IKINW after all these years. I'd give my eye teeth for them to drop Gypsy and do Eyes of the World instead but I bet Stevie would take it personally if Mick dared suggest it.
Tango's title track and When I See You Again really should be done live while the Fab Five still have breath in their bodies but somehow doubt they'll make it in through the crush of White, Rumours and 2015 stuff (when it comes).

Songs that I'd like to see done live (again) before the band retires:
Pre-1975: *Why, Black Magic Woman, Albatross

Rumours: *Oh Daddy, *I Don't Want to Know
Tusk: *Beautiful Child (criminally underperformed), *Angel, *Think About Me, Brown Eyes, Honey Hi (wouldn't this be fun?), Over & Over, What Makes You Think You're the One, The Ledge, Walk a Thin Line
Live: *Fireflies
Mirage: *Hold Me, Love In Store
Tango: *Isn't It Midnight, I know many want big band Big Love, Tango in the Night guitar solo

Michele

Fleetwood Mac Reunite With Christine McVie at Golden Minneapolis Show (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/live-reviews/fleetwood-mac-reunite-with-christine-mcvie-at-golden-minneapolis-show-20141001)
Sixteen years of domestic life in the English countryside, playing with her dogs and baking cookies – that was apparently quite enough for Christine McVie. The singer and keyboardist rejoined Fleetwood Mac earlier this year, and, at 71, she's touring with her old band – singer-guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, singer Stevie Nicks, drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie – for the first time since 1997.
Fleetwood Mac have been on the road plenty in the past few years. But fans have craved a reunion of the lineup that first cohered in 1974 and went on to record that best-selling classic of tuneful romantic turmoil, Rumours. McVie's bandmates, apparently, felt the same way: Nicks in particular had lobbied for McVie's return, making onstage pleas and sending emails.
Last night, those wishes came true, as the band opened a 33-city North American tour at the Target Center in Minneapolis. Over the course of a generous two-and-a-half-hour set, the band ripped through 24 songs from the past four decades of their career. Here are five things we learned.
Fleetwood Mac don't stop thinkin' about tomorrow.
If the evening had an overarching theme – and trust us, it did – it was that Fleetwood Mac remain creatively active. "This is a band that continues to evolve through good times and adversity," Buckingham announced at one point, as though delivering a mission statement. His long introduction to "Big Love" highlighted "the power and importance of change." And when the time came for Mick Fleetwood to introduce the members of the group, the drummer commended Buckingham's "vision for the future of the band." That may not just be empty talk – the group has reportedly been writing and recording new material since McVie's return.
Lindsey Buckingham is still a talented weirdo.
Buckingham certainly did command the stage with the authority of a band leader. His wiry intensity makes him both charismatic and uncool – a winning combination – and with his shock of gray hair and his T-shirt and sports jacket outfit, his look is "chic English Lit professor." After bringing home a performance of "Tusk," he stomped on the stage as though he'd just completed a successful touch football play. His playing, meanwhile, remains fluid and effortless: Of course he nailed the tricky guitar parts you recognize from the records, but he also cut loose on an extended freak-out during "I'm So Afraid," climaxing in a flurry of intricate hammer-ons and crowd-pleasing heroics.
Stevie Nicks is the earnest and effusive heart of the band.
Look, a 66-year-old just can't whirl about the stage in a transported frenzy, no matter how close a contact she maintains with the spirits of the netherworld – it's an inner-ear thing. So Stevie's witchy gesticulations are subtler now, maybe a little hesitant, definitely more deliberate, yet still plenty captivating once she donned an appropriately-colored shawl for "Gold Dust Woman." Most importantly, she's not ashamed to gush, praising both the crowd and Christine: "We are all the dreamcatchers, and we got our dream girl back!"
There's a reason they're named for the rhythm section.
From the kick on "The Chain" to the cowbell on "Gold Dust Woman," so many of these hits are instant recognizable because of their drum parts, and Fleetwood and McVie remain the engine that keeps Fleetwood Mac on track. John McVie is as quietly spotlight-avoidant as ever, the kind of guy who stays in the living room reading the paper when company comes over. But age has only heightened Mick Fleetwood's air of good-humored Dickensian menace – "For sure," he shouted to the crowd, "the Mac is back!" For the encore, he even hauled off on a good old-fashioned drum solo, just like you used to hear on side three of double-live LP back in the Seventies.
Christine McVie is so necessary.
Without her, of course, there's no "You Make Loving Fun," no "Say You Love Me," no "Over My Head." But those aren't just great songs – they're expressions of a homey yet sexy sensibility that balances off Nicks' supernatural romanticism and Buckingham's passionate exasperation. McVie struck a confident presence behind her keyboards, reminiscing about the "fugly little flat in Malibu" she and John once shared and expressing her happiness to be back with the band. "Our songbird has returned," Fleetwood announced grandly when introducing her – and, appropriately, McVie closed the night with the simple, lovely "Songbird."

One thing I noticed about the set list is that both Lindsey and Stevie each get their "Deep track cut" but Chris does not. Chris does her hits only. That is unfortunate since I was hoping for at least one Chris deep track.
But just hearing her is the best thing ever. So still excited as ever!!!!

Fleetwood Mac is back: Christine McVie sings again as the tour starts anew
Though Stevie Nicks and the band are older, they opened their first reunited show in 16 years with the hallmark brilliance for playing off each others’ strengths

The key selling point for Fleetwood Mac’s On With The Show tour, which opened on Tuesday at Minneapolis’s Target Center, is that it’s the first in 16 years to include keyboardist and singer-songwriter Christine McVie, lately relieved of her fear of flying and sprung from her doggy English countryside redoubt.
All of the band’s members except taciturn bassist John McVie, Christine’s ex-husband, paid vocal tribute to her over the course of a spirited two-and-half-hour set. “Our songbird has returned,” said drummer Mick Fleetwood during an extended encore.
McVie’s comeback restores the enduring and protean group’s flagship configuration, whose mid- to late-70s albums entered roughly as many homes as the products of, let’s say, General Electric. The band is currently at work on its first studio album since the 80s, and, you know, it might be pretty good.
They opened with The Chain, a collaboratively composed document of the group’s internecine romantic alliances and disunions that doubles as a unity anthem.
Lindsey Buckingham, wearing heroically tight Levi’s, led the song and established early on that he’d be the evening’s dynamo. As on Side Two of Rumours, You Make Loving Fun followed, with McVie drawing loud applause when she purred the opening lines, “Sweeeet wonderful you.”
Sixteen mostly retired years is a long time to get rusty, but the 71-year-old McVie was in excellent form, her keyboard playing gently rumbling or subtly expressive, her singing graceful. Unlike her two front-of-stage colleagues, McVie isn’t an apparent eccentric or egoist, but rather an understated craftsperson of plaintive easy listening and English soul. The group worked in many of her signature songs, including Over My Head, Little Lies, Say You Love Me and a moving closing number, on which more later.
With McVie’s keyboard resettled next to Stevie Nicks’s scarf-draped mic stand, Fleetwood Mac can once more pass the Bechdel test. The group’s gender parity wasn’t unprecedented, but their music was and is unusually dialogic – women and men trading perspectives on lust and longing, volleying tributes to old Welsh witches and beleaguered Beach Boys. It was great, and crucial, to have her back.
Nicks, the group’s most distinctive vocalist and most famous personality, took a while to reach maybe 85%. Even children get older, Nicks once reminded us, and her sandpaper contralto isn’t as reliable as it once was.
Owing either to first-night caution or diminished range, Nicks – on Gypsy, Dreams, and her traditional showstopper, Rhiannon – backed away from vocal climaxes and generally refashioned her melodies toward compression. Sometimes this led to some interesting jazzy or Dylanesque variations; other times the songs sounded bleary and depleted. She did find her feet, though, giving a sensitive reading of the invincible Landslide, and offering a cool vocal improv and a mystical interpretive dance for Gold Dust Woman.
There’s no reason to doubt that Fleetwood Mac’s sobriety is secure across the board, but Buckingham was certainly hopped up, stomping and whopping and prowling the stage, letting front-row disciples touch the neck of his guitar, breaking into a maniacal laugh to jump-start Tusk, the titular hit from the double album on which his genius act was at its most fastidious and convincing. Tusk was menacing and spot-on, notwithstanding piped-in horns from the USC Trojans (as if the University of Minnesota’s perfectly capable marching band had another commitment!).
Like Nicks, Buckingham’s a pro at shading the lines between idiosyncratic brilliance and loopy kitsch, and certain passages of intensely breathy emoting or orgasmic lead guitar moved definitively into the latter territory. Mostly, though, he was seriously impressive: his dexterous finger-picking, his fine-toned leads, his impassioned singing, his cool Garfunkel hair. And though he never soft-sold his own songs, he was smartly supportive when McVie or Nicks were in charge.
The group was augmented by a shadow quintet composed of a percussionist, two utility player-harmonists, and two 20-feet-from-stardom singers. High harmonies were in place, then, even if the principals couldn’t access them, and the sound was lush throughout. As usual with the band, there were also stripped-down sections with Buckingham working alone or with one other member, and at one point Fleetwood left his main drum kit (about the size of a Buick LeSabre) for a more modestly scaled kit set up in front.
The finest of these quieter interludes was saved for last, when, following a tender run through Nicks’s Silver Springs, the crew wheeled out a baby grand. McVie sat down for an expressive version of Songbird with Buckingham providing a spare solo. Those philistines who trotted out during McVie’s pounding Don’t Stop solo may have escaped the parking ramps a half hour before the rest of us; but their lives are exponentially poorer for it.
There were two closing speeches in tribute to McVie and the band’s new wholeness: one from Nicks, who said she would have bet every cent that McVie would never come back, and a final one from Fleetwood, who urged kindness in a troubled world, then stepped to the mic for one last, bellowed message: “And remember for sure, the Mac is back!”

Many thanks to Michele and Redtulip for the amazing coverage from setlist to photos to video your detailed work and time to share are appreciated, esp your links to Elle who kept Twitter lively and entertaining! Erin, your photos are amazing as always-thank you! Thanks to all who pulled reviews, vids, etc and shared here. I cannot recall who shared what but wanted to offfer my thanks.
For those who were there: did you have any trouble securing your place at stage? The stage area did not look too crowded to me and I'm curious if people hung back or if security restricted access (or if it was biz as usual).

Christine McVie rejoins, re-energizes Fleetwood Mac at emotional Minneapolis show
by Jay Gabler · October 1, 2014 FLEETWOOD MAC REVIEW 1
Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac. Photos by Nate Ryan/MPR.
Every night is a little emotional when you’re the mystical gods and goddesses of pop rock, but Tuesday evening at Target Center in Minneapolis, the members of Fleetwood Mac were feeling particularly soft and fuzzy—towards their fans, and especially towards Christine McVie, the songwriter/vocalist/keyboardist who rejoined the band for the first time on stage since 1998.
It was the first show of what feels like a reunion tour. Though the other four core band members—Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks—have toured together and even released an album since McVie’s departure, on Tuesday night they clearly felt whole again. The night was peppered with references to McVie’s return, from Buckingham’s awkward reference to the return of a “presence”; to Fleetwood’s happy declaration that “we have our songbird back”; to Nicks’s cheer of “Welcome back, Chris!” Only McVie—Christine’s ex-husband—kept stolidly silent, as is generally his wont.
The set list strongly spotlighted Christine McVie’s songs: after an opening rendition of “The Chain,” the house roared for McVie’s “You Make Loving Fun.” 1975′s “Say You Love Me” also found its way into the setlist, as well as the Christine-McVie-led 80s hits “Everywhere” and “Little Lies.” McVie was even given the honor of closing the night, taking a grand piano to sing her signature “Songbird.”
Though Buckingham seemed as glad as anyone to have Christine McVie back, there was no danger that his ego wouldn’t be given room to roam. A solo acoustic “Big Love” was a shout-y showpiece for the man Fleetwood referred to as having “the mentorship of the musical side of this band well in hand,” and an extended solo on “I’m So Afraid” demonstrated why Buckingham is a revered axeman. “Never Going Back,” unfortunately, expanded from its concise original version to a bloated extended take that had Nicks repeatedly leaving her mike and probably going to play Skyrim, or take a shot, or anything else many of the rest of us wished we could be doing too.
Buckingham and Nicks—who joined Fleetwood Mac together in 1974, as musical and romantic partners—seemed downright cozy, once strolling on stage arm in arm as Buckingham planted a kiss on his former lover’s forehead. Nicks brought plenty of her trademark gold-dust-woman touches (yes, of course the band played that song), including scarves, a top hat, a tambourine with streamers, and some twirling dance moves. Her songs, including “Landslide” and “Silver Springs,” were among the most straightforward of the evening, but she seemed comfortable and confident throughout. After the fact, she dedicated “Gypsy” to “my one and only husband” (Kim Anderson, to whom she was married for eight months in the early 80s), who she said was at the show.
Fleetwood, per usual, just looked ecstatic. Why wouldn’t he be? The band bearing his name—the “Mac” comes from John McVie, another early member—has lived at least nine lives since its advent in the late British Invasion, and it’s still going strong. Fleetwood Mac still play with unimpeachable musicality and the galloping force that’s always distinguished them from the bands played alongside them on soft-rock radio. Their instrumental chops are fully intact, and their voices—which were always more about expression than explosion—have weathered well.
Accompanied by two backup vocalists and two supporting multi-instrumentalists, the quintet stood on a large stage (none of the fancy lifts and second stages you find in younger acts’ arena shows, I guess because this show is “about the music” or something) with new-agey visuals projected on a screen behind them. Some of the visuals—notably an animation of Buckingham’s head that resembled both the Wizard of Oz and Max Headroom—were wincingly bad, but for the crowd featuring at least one man wearing a Canadian tuxedo embroidered with an Eagles logo, visual aesthetics clearly weren’t a priority.
There was much talk of the band’s future, which was nice to hear, whatever it means. Fortunately for fans of the band’s seminal discography, neither future hopes nor past regrets are keeping Fleetwood Mac from celebrating their long-awaited reunion right here in the present, embracing that musical chain that’s brought them together again.

Security wasn't really letting people up. I didn't look real closely, but it seemed like even the second row stayed in their spots and the security guard standing in the middle aisle wasn't letting people up. I'm not positive, but I think he was a venue guard and not with FM. There was a lot of room at the stage which was nice for those of us who were standing there, but it was kind of weird at the same time.

Nostalgia played a tremendous part in Fleetwood Mac's sell-out U.S. tour kickoff show at Target Center on Tuesday night. With the addition of Christine McVie -- joining the band for the first time since 1998 -- the Rumours-era lineup stood together reformed.
Clearly, this was personal, both for audience and for band. Redemption, forgiveness, and perseverance were on display throughout the night -- and that was just from the five original band members on stage. The emotional memories these hits triggered for an audience of 17,000-plus could span many chapters.

After Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks took the lead on "The Chain," the band ceded the spotlight to McVie, who received a rousing ovation as soon as she started to sing "You Make Loving Fun." The 71-year-old's golden voice showed no sign of rust. "Hello again, Minneapolis," Nicks announced, before quickly adding, "We should say at the same time, welcome back, Chris!"
Fleetwood Mac have such a stellar back catalog that their opening string of songs would be saved for encores by most other bands. "Dreams," "Second Hand News," and "Rhiannon" got the show started strongly, and the quintet never looked back. The latter featured a triptych of curved screens filled with expansive natural vistas as well as images of Ophelia sinking in her doomed water.

As with any tour kickoff show, there were imperfections and slight blunders along the way. But the band leaned on the strength of their songs and on their familiarity with each other throughout the performance, and effortlessly rose above any bumps they experienced along the way. Buckingham's vehement guitar work was on full display throughout the set, as he tore through solos that gave these breezy classic-rock numbers some added teeth. But ultimately, the night belonged to McVie, who added a blissful elegance to every song she sang. "This is a dream come true, and a chance that you don't get often in life," McVie gushed after thanking the band for welcoming her back, before leading them through the buoyant, Caribbean rhythms of "Everywhere."
"This is a band that continues to evolve, through good times and adversity," Buckingham admitted candidly. "And this is a poetic and profound new chapter that we've started now that we have this lady back with us." He did single out McVie twice during the performance, but strangely never mentioned her by name, referring to her instead as "this lady," and "this new element." But the natural camaraderie permeated the songs themselves, as the hard-charging beats of "Tusk," the mystical menace of "Sisters of the Moon," and the rollicking seductiveness of "Say You Love Me" all rang out vibrantly.
With Christine McVie in tow, the band had their entire catalog at their disposal, which also caused them to dust off some other choice nuggets from their past. Nicks sang an impassioned version of "Seven Wonders," a song which the group hasn't played together in ages, a choice inspired, no doubt, by the song featuring prominently on the recent season of the hit TV show American Horror Story (as Nicks herself did). And "Over My Head," the pop gem from their 1975 self-titled album (Christine called it "our White Album"), also found its way back into the setlist after a long absence, with McVie affectionately referring to her writing the song from the Malibu flat she was sharing with John at the time.

The three-song acoustic segment toward the end of the main set proved to be a tender highlight of the show, as Buckingham's "Big Love" and "Never Going Back Again" stylishly bookended a plaintive, heartwarming version of "Landslide," which Nicks simply owned, as her seasoned vocals joined with thousands of fans. The main set then ended with a flurry of radio anthems, as "Gypsy," "Little Lies," "Gold Dust Woman," and a triumphant "Go Your Own Way" all soared. Buckingham's plodding "I'm So Afraid" sat awkwardly in the middle of those hits, but his scorching guitar solo on the number made up for its tepid start. Nicks even changed into a stylish black top hat for "Go Your Own Way," so you knew that she and the band meant business on that rousing set closer.
For the encore, John, Christine, and Mick came out together, with Fleetwood dancing a gig, reveling in the ovation from the crowd, while Nicks and Buckingham came out arm in arm. That sense of conviviality carried over into a dynamic run through of "World Turning," which featured dramatic, neon-drenched overhead images of cityscapes on the big screens at the back of the stage. Fleetwood also banged out a wild drum solo during the breakdown of the track (seriously, who but Fleetwood Mac has the audacity to pull off a drum solo during the freaking encore?!). The rest of the band returned to finish off the song, before Mick introduced everyone, calling Buckingham "the visionary behind the band and a brilliant guitar player," while Nicks is "Fleetwood Mac's eternal romantic," and Christine "makes us complete once again -- our songbird has returned," and John is "the backbone of the band and my partner in crime."
The eternally optimistic pulse of "Don't Stop" got the crowd dancing and singing along, with Christine peppering the number with sprightly Ragtime rolls on her keys. The first encore ended with Nicks's somber, wistful ode, "Silver Springs," but Christine had one more gem left. She returned to the keys and sang a fragile, affectionate version of "Songbird," joined by Buckingham's muted, understated guitar. It was a real heartwarming moment in a night full of them, with Christine receiving hugs from the rest of the band after she finished the number. The band took a group bow and soaked in the adoration of the audience. "We are all the dreamcatchers here, and we got our dream girl back," Nicks exclaimed. And indeed, the show was just like a dream come true for so many of us.

Critic's Notebook:
Personal Bias: I became a fan of Fleetwood Mac simply because for many years that was the only thing my three older sisters would listen to.
The Crowd: A dedicated, vocal bunch who were thrilled to have the full band back together again.
Random Notebook Dump: While the band played "Everywhere," I couldn't help but think that Vampire Weekend owes their entire career to that song.

They sound seriously amazing! Christine is so important to the sound of the band and it is great to have her back. I think it's given a huge boost to the other members of the group as well. I LOVE that they are doing Seven Wonders and Little Lies! I really really really hope they decide to record one of their shows for a DVD/Blu-ray/CD.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to post photos/vids and reviews, it really is appreciated:nod:
It is so great to see Christine back, as a massive fan of TITN it was wonderful to see and hear Everywhere and Little Lies - not sure about Seven Wonders but maybe because I've always loved the studio version so much (it was the song that made me discover them as a teenager).
Over My Head and Gypsy I would swap for Hold Me and Sara but otherwise I'm liking the set list. You Make Loving Fun, my favourite Christine song sounded amazing!
Thank you again.

Love, love how they go from "The Chain" directly into "You Make Loving Fun" and how the crowd erupts when Christine starts to sing.. thanks to all who captured the videos.. appreciate it.
When the loving starts and the lights go down ...
Michele
I noticed that too. I kept thinking why is she singing my name? Ha! ;)

There's no way it should be in the setlist now. Stevie performs it beautifully but it's not a FM song and you now have three singers again so it would make its inclusion even more wrong I think.

Fleetwood Mac is back: Christine McVie sings again as the tour starts anew
Though Stevie Nicks and the band are older, they opened their first reunited show in 16 years with the hallmark brilliance for playing off each others’ strengths
This is so good. love the line about his pants.

Stevie sending emails??

The only surprises or rarities were Little Lies and Seven Wonders. Those were the only two.
Hold Me and Blue Letter would have been great surprises or rarities.
Brown Eyes would have been good since they had the Tusk block again or even Over and Over, that song is beautiful live.

it is so wonderful when you go to the show, especially the first one, and we get all these little tidbits that make it feel like we were there too.
Thanks, Elle. Last night was so much fun. I knew you were manning your own network on social media, coordinating info and keeping everyone up to date on twitter and Facebook. I felt you were my link to the outside FM world, when I couldn't be online.

Love the video shots taken by this person on opening night. They are close up and EXTREMELY CLEAR. His youtube page has several of these close up videos. He had amazing seats AND an amazing camera. You get to see exactly what THE MAC look like. I love these people SO MUCH.....they are tried and true, road tested, still producing great melodies nearly 40 years later! They are TRUE SURVIVORS....seen it all !!!
Check out this clip of "Over My Head" for the GREAT CLOSE UP SHOTS ABOUT 1:25. Everyone looks GREAT !! Chris' hair is beautiful! Is she rocking some hair extensions/clip ins? The black outfits are gorgeous!

For those who were there: did you have any trouble securing your place at stage? The stage area did not look too crowded to me and I'm curious if people hung back or if security restricted access (or if it was biz as usual).
This could have been for fire safety reasons for ONLY this venue, because there was only about 4 feet between the stage and the first row. In most places, there's a lot more room. At the Target Center, it was limited. I heard the security guard telling someone that they could clear the whole building in 20 minutes if they had to.
Anyway, he told us at the beginning that only the front row could go up and that if anyone tried to move around the sides and get to the front that it should be reported to him or the guys at each end. I wondered if/hoped that that would be enforced and it was.
I would not say that ONLY people in the front row were at the stage, but I think there were only 5-10 extra people there. Only one layer of humans there. No pushing and the other people in rows further back could see the stage if they stood or even if they sat. I thought it worked out nicely.
Now, it may not have been as motivating for the band. They feed off the energy of people at the stage, perhaps. But I don't care about those band members:lol:!
