One thing I noticed about the set list is that both Lindsey and Stevie each get their "Deep track cut" but Chris does not. Chris does her hits only. That is unfortunate since I was hoping for at least one Chris deep track.
But just hearing her is the best thing ever. So still excited as ever!!!!

It was probably her decision to stick to familiar songs and not risk making too many mistakes. Maybe that's why "Brown Eyes" was dropped. Did you all notice her vocal flub in the middle of "Everywhere"? It was kind of cute, actually.

Love the video shots taken by this person on opening night. They are close up and EXTREMELY CLEAR. His youtube page has several of these close up videos. He had amazing seats AND an amazing camera. You get to see exactly what THE MAC look like. I love these people SO MUCH.....they are tried and true, road tested, still producing great melodies nearly 40 years later! They are TRUE SURVIVORS....seen it all !!!

Check out this clip of "Over My Head" for the GREAT CLOSE UP SHOTS ABOUT 1:25. Everyone looks GREAT !! Chris' hair is beautiful! Is she rocking some hair extensions/clip ins? The black outfits are gorgeous!

Completely Agree. Amazing quality. Christine looks fantastic as does Stevie. Timeless.

I just listened to that clip of Over My Head, with the close-ups. It makes me so happy...it's hard to describe, hearing that song, the warmth of Christine's voice, Stevie's harmony, Lindsey's guitar work. Christine looks like she's having a blast---look at her smiling at the end as she finishes the song!! Just fantastic!!

This could have been for fire safety reasons for ONLY this venue, because there was only about 4 feet between the stage and the first row. In most places, there's a lot more room. At the Target Center, it was limited. I heard the security guard telling someone that they could clear the whole building in 20 minutes if they had to.

Anyway, he told us at the beginning that only the front row could go up and that if anyone tried to move around the sides and get to the front that it should be reported to him or the guys at each end. I wondered if/hoped that that would be enforced and it was.

I would not say that ONLY people in the front row were at the stage, but I think there were only 5-10 extra people there. Only one layer of humans there. No pushing and the other people in rows further back could see the stage if they stood or even if they sat. I thought it worked out nicely.

Now, it may not as been as motivating for the band. They feed off the energy of people at the stage, perhaps. But I don't care about those band members:lol:!

Michele

I know I may be in the minority here but I was thinking about that last night. The show was good but I felt it was a bit flat. It didn't have the same energy as the two shows I saw last year and one factor might possibly have been the stage situation.

And the first night is always a little stiff. I know they will be emotionally up for New York. I'm sorry I can't go to that one.

That may not just be empty talk – the group has reportedly been writing and recording new material since McVie's return.

An album, they apparently can't talk about while on stage. In the past, when they had no true album plans, Lindsey would hint that there would be one. Now, when they have actually worked on a few songs, he says nothing. Tell me Lindsey, do they let you say "Voldemort"?

Some of the visuals—notably an animation of Buckingham’s head that resembled both the Wizard of Oz and Max Headroom—were wincingly bad,

No way. Every home should have a giant, floating Lindsey head, chanting Dah, dah, dah, da, dah dah.

Yeah, well, I'm only doing one show and I got stuck with the stiff/flat show. At least it makes me happy I'm only going to one since I didn't think it was that great.

NO! It was not a pleasing visual; when it wasn't just distracting, it was disturbing. Who was responsible for that? Bad decision.

Those philistines who trotted out during McVie’s pounding Don’t Stop solo may have escaped the parking ramps a half hour before the rest of us; but their lives are exponentially poorer for it.

Awwww. Shucks. You know what? It's hard to explain. I don't personally like Songbird that much, but if they hadn't played it last night, I would have been devastated.

He did single out McVie twice during the performance, but strangely never mentioned her by name, referring to her instead as "this lady," and "this new element."

I don't know. He might not know her name. Maybe he always refers to her as "Doll."

Over My Head was a huge snoozer. SOTM was the same as last year, just with Chris added in. They need to bring back the rocking guitar solo and do it more like the Mirage tour. They could make that song so much more powerful. They should have shook up the setlist a bit more, it sounded basically like last tour but with Chris's songs added in.

Stand Back has no place in this tour though, I think it was a great decision to drop it. It's a solo song, not FM. If we're adding in solo songs, I vote for Gift of Screws.

I'm a huge fan of Oh Daddy, but the live version doesn't quite capture the complex studio recording. As I said about Over My Head, I'm glad they did it and that we have that video. I loved listening to it and how delightful Christine looked at the end. But I wasn't there, so I'm not sure I would have liked the change in pace. Something tells me Mick was an advocate for it and Gypsy---he just loves his little set and coming to front and center. Maybe it's both Over My Head and Gypsy that doesn't work?

Agreed on what was said for Sisters of the Moon. This is just ridiculous. Where is the management? They need to see how they used to play that song...I don't know who to blame. Singing over the instrumental refrain = cringeworthy. Just ending. Not rocking it and going for a more intense guitar sound. Dear band, watch Mirage, watch Tusk tour, watch Tusk Tour rehearsals...all on YouTube...or listen to recordings from the tours, I don't care. I just feel the effort wasn't put into the arrangement. Why the heck bring it out then? At least they did Beautiful Child right--that was a huge success, in my opinion. Why it hasn't reappeared beats me, it's an extraordinary song.

[Here Jon Bream summarizes his review, which has already been posted in this thread]

Star Tribune, October 1, 2014

http://www.startribune.com/entertainment/blogs/277709231.html

Lindsey Buckingham wasn’t as manic as usual. Stevie Nicks sang better than usual (clearer, less croaky and able to reach more high notes). The rhythmic section was as terrific as usual. And Christine McVie was back to her old steady, radiant self on keyboards and vocals. All of that was explained in my review of Fleetwood Mac’s tour-opening concert Tuesday at Target Center.

Nicks didn’t do her dervish dancing much, just as couple of spins on “Rhiannon” and on seven or eight spins in sloooo-moooootion during “Gypsy.” Even if she wasn’t very witchy, she seemed in good spirits. Buckingham was wired but less physically all over the stage, though at the end of his vocal numbers he either blurted out a satisfying “arrrrrggggh” or stomped animatedly in place.

Yes, as Mick Fleetwood said: “Fer sure, the Mac is back.”

Here is Fleetwood Mac’s set list from Tuesday:

Chain/You Make Lovin Fun/ Dreams/ Second Hand News/ Rhiannon/ Everywhere/ I Know I’m Not Wrong/ Tusk/ Sisters of the Moon/ Say You Love Me/ Seven Wonders/ acoustic set: Big Love/ Landslide/ Never Going Back/ full band: Over My Head/ Gypsy/ Little Lies/ Gold Dust/ I’m So Afraid/ Go Your Own Way ENCORE: World Turning/ Don’t Stop/ Silver Springs/ Songbird

Is there going to be a new thread for the show tonight?

I still can't get over how awesome it would be if they took out Over My Head and Silver Springs and put in Hold Me, Sara, and Blue Letter. Brown Eyes would be good too to give Christine a song for the Tusk section. It would make the show pop so much more. Blue Letter would be awesome in the encore section. They're doing almost the same set as The Dance. I hope the band realized they need to bump up the set after opening night. The only surprises are Little Lies and Seven Wonders.

I so agree with you regarding SOTM. It's a watered down mess. BC would be awesome to hear again live. As I recall, it went over very well with the audiences. It's funny, fans clamored for years to hear SOTM live and now it's like ok, you can put it away again. Strictly my opinion, of course.

I'm so glad to see that this is the consensus re: SOTM. I can't stand it, and, to me, it's the highlight of the Mirage show. This version--and the one from last year is like a horrible muzak version. I love Stevie so much, but she didn't seem very energized in Minneapolis. YMMV.

Not everyone! Although it is a pale shadow of 1982 and the album version, SOTM is still realistically miles better thsn today's versions of rhiannon or dreams. So I don't mind it being in the set at all. SOTM is a great song but I hope the screaming guitar part somehow comes back. Of course, it won't cause LB is tired of hearing he's hogging SN spotlight.

bethelblues

Or, to play devil's advocate, Lindsey's tired of Stevie getting all the attention and acclaim and doesn't want the song to reach its full potential.

Stevie could also be the one who wants to keep it mellow, for whatever reason.

I agree Sisters was nice in that it was something different in the set. But in no way does it sound close to Rhiannon. The video clip of Rhiannon was fantastic....Stevie sounded great, the song sounded great, Christine sounded great on the harmonies. The arrangement is way more complete than Sisters of the Moon, even when that song too pales next to Stevie's 70s live performances. Also, you may not agree, but the band sounds damn good on Dreams. It's irritating that Sisters has become just another slow song for Stevie when it used to be a real rocker, something really special. Now that all her other songs are must-dos except for probably Gypsy (not counting Seven Wonders since it's new), it's the odd one out.

Who tells LB he's hogging SN's spotlight? He told her to tone her stage look down for SYW tour so she wore a sweater.
Lindsey gets the spotlight in Mac shows. Stevie definitely has more energy in her shows. I think she lets Lindsey have most of the spotlight. Shes got to have her own spotlight moments in FM shows too cause people want to see her dance and twirl!

That's why the Mirage version kicks ass. Stevie and Lindsey played off each other and it was amazing. If one is letting the other one "have the spotlight" it results in a boring performance. They both need to start hogging the spotlight simultaneously and stop being so polite and respectful. It is a rock show after all. We all know their egos are still intact.

Just going by a few YouTube videos,
the show struck me as being a little low-energy/flat compared
to the last tour.
I'm probably in the minority, but I think Seven Wonders is a throw-away
and is really un-interesting in concert.
I think it should go and the stellar arrangement of Sara from
last year should replace it.

I thought Over My Head was fantastic but Little Lies sounded
phoned in.
Chris needs more muscle behind her songs. She's no longer a
match for the powerhouse that Stevie and Lindsey have become.

I'm happy with Christine's songs with the exception of Over My Head. Hold Me or Brown Eyes would be so much better IMO.

Little Lies and Everywhere will have been added to the set with England/Europe in mind maybe too as they were big hits here.

I think some songs did sound a bit slow paced and like a few others am also not a fan of SOTM in its present form, but they'll improve as they go on - I think, all things considered it was a great first show:thumbsup:

Chris has included almost all of her biggest hits which are up-tempo and strong. Did you see the jam at the end of Little Lies? You cant get more muscle than that. Brown Eyes is my favorite tune from Tusk and I saw in live in 1987. It is not an arena song. It needs a small intimate setting. How can you ask for more musical muscle and then ask for Brown eyes? Christine blows both Stevie and Lindsey away vocally and I think they both would admit that.

I don't know - I just don't think she's sounding as good as she could.
But I thought this in 97 as well.
I think Brown Eyes is a more interesting song, with a lot
more going on musically for John, Mick and Lindsey.
I think I'm just not a huge Little Lies fan.
It's pretty repetitive and poppy, and while I know people love it,
It's not really my thing.
Same for 7 Wonders, which I've always felt is one of the bands weaker
songs.

I agree with you. Little Lies was a huge hit worldwide and Everywhere was a top 20 hit again in the UK last year so she's going to include them both. I would have liked to see Brown Eyes but can see what you mean, perhaps not a great translation live.

I also agree that her vocals are now probably the strongest of the three.

On a side note Stevie really needs to re-read the lyrics to Seven Wonders, she screws up twice!

 yes, very much with you on everything you said!!

i never even cared about Chris' songs much, other than Hold Me and Think About Me, but i almost cried watching and listening to that Songbird, enjoyed that little jam on Little Lies (and thought how that's been soooo missing on almost every song last year, including - and still - on SOTM), and i've been humming OMH...

plus LOVE the giant floating LB head and actually loved watching IKINW, however much i'd rather he uses some other gem of his from Tusk, especially the never played ones. i loved his introduction about new, long (however much i personally hate that!) and fruitful FM chapter and ending that by saying I KNOW i'm not wrong!!

and although Christine is now getting all LB love and attention that audience was normally getting on the last few tours, i love love love watching their interaction. so sweet! hearing the 2 of them and Mick went out for dinner together and had a blast was the icing on the cake - these 3 just look like people who are so fun these days!

i hope all the bitc*ing and moaning from some peeps here (usually same peeps, over and over every 5 sec  ) doesn't get through to band and doesn't sway the lower-willed members, at least not before i get to see the show.

Today's live Sisters of the Moon is never going to match up to yesteryear's Mirage or Tusk live performances. But it's a reputable representation of the song. But would have preferred it without her modifying the ending of the song with "My Sister...of the...Moooon." It's kind of cheesy.

Not complaining or moaning or anything else.
Just an observation based a few YouTube videos with REALLY
bad sound.
Music is so subjective. My reference points are 2 shows on the Tusk tour,
1 on Mirage tour, 2 Tango shows, 1 Behind The Mask, 1 Dance show, and 1 Say You Will tour show. I missed last year all together but some of the videos sounded jaw-droppingly good.
First nights are always a little hit or miss.
They'll get into their groove in about 4 weeks.
I'm a big Tusk era fan. Tango In The Night is my least fave from this line up.
The few times I've seen them do Brown Eyes, it was amazing. Like chills-inducing.
One of the rare times you get to hear Stevie and Chris sing together with very little else playing.

I'm also one of those weird fans who's not a big "hits" person.
I've never liked Don't Stop and would pick Oh Daddy over it any day.

The floating Lindsey head was the highlight of the show for me. I need the Lindsey head singing along for the whole show.

I guess it, for you, it should be said: Lindsey gives good head.

Not complaining or moaning or anything else.

no, not you. sorry if these comments kinda piled up after your post.

as you said - music is so subjective. my comment and some others were about 1 or 2 peeps in particular spamming all over 4-5 threads, like every other post, calling for dropping of certain songs they don't like and putting in others they like and presenting it as "ALL fans want this".

and yes, yes, i know i am always complaining about no WATL, but i've never ever said that everybody wants that song.

Some of it may be aimed at me, although it's only a couple of songs I don't like and have generally been positive and have posted mainly in the Glastonbury/UK Europe threads.

I'm super excited about this tour, and did say that for a first night I thought they did great - but not everyone is going to like every song.

Tango has a special place in my heart so seeing so many songs from that album makes me happy:] In fact would have loved Isn't It Midnight there too. I get that others prefer other eras so it's natural for them to maybe not be as keen on those songs.

All in all I think it's a decent set list really. I do think we'll see changes though. I have been ill in recent years but am hoping I can make a UK show all being well:nod:

Isn't It Midnight is one of my favs. Like Sisters of the Moon, it's a great rocker. And it works perfectly with Christine's voice. I especially liked the added section at the end they would do when it was live, with Stevie leading: "Welllllllllll, isn't it midnight?"

Yes Christine was on such good form on Tango, love all her songs on that album but this is a little gem:thumbsup:

I wonder whether they thought about adding it? Maybe with so many Tango songs they thought it might be overkill!

Anyone that actually thought 2013 (and now 2014) Sisters of the Moon was going to be like the versions from 1978-82 (whether the musical arrangement or Stevie's voice...or Lindsey singing the one verse, or whatever), was and continues to be delusional. There was no way, no how, it was ever going to sound like that Mirage video ever again. Hell, there are other shows from the MIRAGE TOUR that don't sound as raw or as good as the one captured on the video!

I think the current version is a fair representation of the original song and certainly is not the worst thing they could have done. Obviously the band and Stevie are okay with it or it would have been dropped by now. It doesn't rock as hard and the arrangement cuts out some solo work by Lindsey...but just like what Rhiannon has morphed into, this is what we are going to get today.

Everywhere and Little Lies were bigger hits than Isn't It Midnight.

They only have one song on the set from Mirage, and they have done Gypsy a lot on recent tours right? Hold Me would be so awesome. I would love to see one of Lindsey's Mirage songs too. His songs are so good on Mirage.

Who tells LB he's hogging SN's spotlight?

go watch youtube vids from 2009 tour and read the comments below them (especially Gold Dust Woman from London and other european stops, which was actually jazzed up and marvelous guitar-wise!!).

or read reviews from 2009 tour. tons of them were saying SN was lifeless and phoning it in while LB stole the show. SN fans complained about him stealing the show from her by actually jamming on her songs.

so in 2012, before 2013 tour started, LB said she was feeling sad reading her bad reviews and he was gonna do everything in his power that those don't happen again. he was still gonna be himself on stage but change some things. listening to 2013 GDW or SOTM, i think i see what he meant. now everybody's complaining that he's holding back on her songs. for chiffs, the man can do nothing right. but at least she seems happy.

Okay, but wasn't he "toned down" on her songs long before that? I mean, the classic example is Rhiannon. The whole arrangement changed around 1990 with Fleetwood Mac (I believe the handful of times it was played in '87 still included a solo from Rick I guess after the traditional part of the song ends and before "dreams unwind...") and when they played it for The Dance it was half the song that it was in the old days. A lot had to do with Stevie's inability to do what she did in 1976 any longer, but, the vocals aside, the whole arrangement was shrunk down and mellowed out considerably. I wish someone would ask something about that in an interview - "when the hell did you think it was a good idea to take out the rocking solos in half of the damn songs?" It would be a lot better than "so what is it like after all these years to sing these songs to each other every night bla bla bla"

Well, "I Know I'm Not Wrong" and "Eyes of the World" are kind of the same song. Lindsey plays pretty much the same guitar solo at the end of both. That's why they always get swapped out for each other in the set list. It's an easy transition.

I like all of Lindsey's songs on Mirage, except for "Empire State" and "Oh Diane." ES is just kind of random and gimmicky and OD is conspicuously retro and just doesn't fit well with the rest of the songs. But "Can't Go Back" and "Book of Love" are among his best.

Empire State and Can't Go Back can go hide in a closet for all I care :D but I have always been partial to Book of Love. I always thought that would be an interesting song for him to rearrange and do in lieu of Big Love or maybe as a replacement for the drawn out snooze fest that has become of Never Going Back Again.

Or, to play devil's advocate, Lindsey's tired of Stevie getting all the attention and acclaim and doesn't want the song to reach its full potential.

I hardly think that's the case. Lindsey knows that he gets credit for guitar work on Christine and Stevie's songs. He gets nothing but praise for YMLF and Gypsy, for instance. If his ego needed a boost, he'd be the one advocating hardest for a hot and heavy guitar meltdown at the end of SOTM.

Of course, I'm fine with the way the song is now. I think it's better than it was last tour. I appreciate it's past thrill from the old days, but it still rocksalittle -- or rocks enough -- for my tastes, just as it is.

Same for 7 Wonders, which I've always felt is one of the bands weaker
songs.

Over My Head for me was spot on.
Love Stevie's harmonies on it.
I know a way we can both be happy....adding Isnt it Midnight
Very rocking song, strong vocals, and Lindsey's amazing guitar work. Now that song sounds great live. I like all the songs Chris is doing but I guess I would switch it with dropping Over my head.
One thing that I prefer is the arena rock versions of Say you love me and Over my head. Ever since the Dance 1997 they went more for the studio sounding versions live. I like the organ and drums from Say You Love Me from the Live album. Now THAT is a LIVE cut. And also the live version of Over My Head from the Live album. But they went to studio versions live. I personally like to hear the Mac rock and like the arena rock versions of all their songs.

This!! Could not agree more with you! It's like they decided with all the backing musicians they decided to arrange the songs based upon the studio versions in many cases. Whereas in the old days, they had to figure out how to arrange songs for the stage solely relying on the five of them (and Ray Lindsey on some songs with an added guitar). That resulted in a more rock oriented sound for songs like Rhiannon, Over My Head, Say You Love Me, The Chain, and so many others. Between the added musicians and Stevie's obnoxious "girls" singing and shimmying in the background, it's like they decided to abandon that old approach and try to recreate the album on stage in a lot of cases.

you summed that up nicely and yeah that is the main difference in their sound on stage now compared to then. And I'm with you on Stevie's girls...I don't think they're that necessary in Fleetwood Mac...maybe only in Stevie's eyes.

I have been wanting to add my thoughts, but got sick right after the concert and had to attend a conference the next day... ugh! Since much of what I thought has already been stated, I'll keep it short and sweet:

I had never seen Christine perform with the band before, and I never knew what I had been missing. She adds so much. I realized that what we had before was Buckingham Nicks and the best rhythm section in the world, and now we had FLEETWOOD MAC. While some may be surprised that I don't prefer the former, when I sign up for a Fleetwood Mac show, that's what I want to get.

Christine started out a bit tentative but gained confidence and by Songbird was able to make me weep - and I wasn't the only one. When she came out to the front of the stage during Tusk with her accordion and smiled at audience members, I was delighted. She is amazing! However, maybe it was just my at-the-stage position, but I couldn't hear her as well on harmonies.

Stevie was better vocally than I've seen her in a long time, perhaps ever. She took risks on a couple songs - going high where she typically keeps it flat - and it made the songs much more dynamic.

Stevie's interactions with Lindsey during songs were treats: the fire of Gold Dust Woman and Silver Springs. However, Landslide was much less touchy-feely than it has been and they don't spent as much time talking to/about each other. I guess that's only natural, as doing so would exclude Christine, but I missed it a bit. Stevie also spent a great deal of time smiling encouragingly at Chris, especially during tricky harmonies which could be a bit shaky. Lindsey's few interactions with Chris were cute, although I wish there had been more between these terrific musicians.

Now Lindsey. Unfortunately for me, while I was lucky to get a spot at the stage, it was very high and Stevie's teleprompter blocked me from even seeing Lindsey unless I backed up a great deal, which I was hesitant to do since I didn't actually have a first row seat and there was one security guard in particular who seemed very keen on sending back miscreants such as myself. I had done the VIP thing and paid just as much money as those next to me, so I felt no guilt, but obviously I was unworthy in his eyes. I tried to be invisible and so missed Lindsey. :(

Basing it solely on sound, I can say his guitar is as sharp as ever. However, I was surprised that he changed so little: yes, we knew the speeches would be the same, that's just Lindsey, and I suspected his positioning would be the same as it would probably tax the lighting director if he didn't always stand in the same spot (I was glad of this during ISA and GYOW, the only times I actually saw him, because I knew he would come over to where I was at least twice). However, typically, he will at least have a new or different song, and such was not the case here. For better or for worse, no arrangements were changed. That was disappointing, but again, Lindsey was incredible whenever he played.

HIGHLIGHTS:

Little Lies. I was thrilled to hear this for the first time live with Lindsey and they really sounded tight as a band on that chorus where each vocalist has a distinct part. LOVED it.

Seven Wonders. I never expected them to switch out Stand Back for this, but I'm so glad! It was fun and despite a bit of a flub at the end of one of the verses, I was delighted by it.

Gold Dust Woman. Perhaps the best version I've ever heard. Stevie took vocal risks and while her "crackhead dance" started out a bit sketchy, it quickly became fascinating to watch. The howl was done as it should be. Her defiant ending - "You can't break me down, you can't take me now" etc. was far superior to her more plaintive one of recent times.

I'm So Afraid. This song is always a highlight for me; so intense!

Silver Springs. Stevie changed things up at the end and of course, I love her interaction with Lindsey.

Don't Stop. Lindsey and Christine worked together vocally in the way it should be done (no offense to Stevie) and Christine's keyboard solo was fantastic. Love it.

Songbird. I've already said how much this song moved me.

THINGS THAT COULD BE IMPROVED:

HOLD ME. I was largely unspoiled for the setlist, but someone told me beforehand that Hold Me had been planned and dropped. Very disappointing, as this would play a lot better than Over My Head, IMHO.

Over My Head. Why is Lindsey not singing harmonies on this like in the old days? His voice was missed.

Sisters of the Moon. I want the guitar solo at the end. I know it's apparently a lost cause for Rhiannon, but I was still hoping maybe we'd get it for this one. It would elevate the song so much. Honestly, Lindsey's guitar solo is my favorite part of the song.

Never Going Back Again. Oh, how I loathe the way Lindsey does this now. It is agony to listen to it at this point; his picking sounds like a novice who's not really sure what the next note is, so he has to pay it SUPER SLOWLY; his drawn out vocals make it boring; his holding a note until his breath runs out impresses me not a bit - anybody with sufficient lung capacity can do that - yet he acts as if it were downright operatic as he waits for the applause to commence. BLECH. I hate it so much that I have decided I will not applaud it, even if I'm right there at Lindsey's feet.

World Turning. Why do they have that stupid bit with the sound effects? It's been plaguing us for years now, and it's completely inane. At this point, we've already been forced to suffer through an extended drum solo... get back to the freaking song already!

The floating Lindsey head graphic. It's creepy. WTH?! To be fair, most of the graphics in the back were well-done, but yikes on that one. It reminded me of Max Headroom, a movie I hated.

ADDITIONAL SHALLOW THOUGHTS:
I prefer Lindsey in leather. ;) He still is sex on a stick when he plays those hot electric guitar solos, though.
Stevie made a lot more eye contact with audience members than usual. It was cool.
Stevie needs to bring back the sexy Rhiannon top.
I adored Stevie's boots with the glittery heels. WANT.
Christine looks fantastic.
John's vest looked like something he stole from Mick's trunk, but I liked it.

Hmm, perhaps this wasn't so "short and sweet" after all, eh?

All in all, this show was terrific. Again, it was the first time I felt like I was really at a Fleetwood Mac concert. It was worth the trip and getting sick. No Fleetwood Mac fan should miss this tour. Sit in the cheap seats if the ones up front are too pricey, but go. It's epic, and I don't use that term lightly.

THE MAC IS BACK!!!!

I hate the new-ish version of Never Going Back Again too! It's sooooo over-the-top and angsty.

Well, I was thinking about how the setlist could be improved, since that is fun for me. Maybe a part of me wishes I was part of the band's management and could make suggestions. I think Over My Head is fine, but really should move to much earlier in the set. Toward the end, it takes out a lot of the momentum. It's probably too late now, but they could have spoken before Over My Head and said they wanted to take us through their albums together. Over My Head was the first single--thus, that would mark the beginning of this musical journey, starting with the White Album. This is what I came up with...maybe it would change up the pacing for the better?

I'm tired of the excuses, not that some songs don't work well live compared to their studio versions (that's true), but that the band couldn't find a version or arrangement they were comfortable performing/did justice to the recording. Come on. If they put their minds to it, they can do it. I heard that excuse for why they didn't play Little Lies in 97. Look at it now, it sounds fine.

Neither does: Why, Black Magic Woman, Albatross, Oh Well (and anything else pre-1975), Crystal, Oh Daddy, I Don't Want to Know, Beautiful Child, Angel, Sisters of the Moon, Storms, Think About Me, Fireflies, Love in Store, Isn't It Midnight, etc.

I guess the difference is Hold Me was one of their highest performing singles, and THE LEAD SINGLE for Mirage (not Gypsy, surprisingly).

They were able to make Everywhere sound good live back in 1997 and now. They should be able to do Hold Me.

Do we still think it's true that they did rehearse Hold Me and had planned on it being in the set?

We all know it's very unlikely that they'll play anything pre 1975. But for 1975-1987 stuff Hold Me was a big hit. There's not any Tusk or Mirage songs on the set from Christine.

I think the leaks were absolutely true. The leaked setlist was spot on. They probably rehearsed it.

Sisters of the Moon has been played on the last tour and now this one. I just don't think the arrangement is a deserving homage to the song, that's why I included it. Also, I think they would have so much fun playing a song like Black Magic Woman. Who would play what? It'd be exciting. Then again, Lindsey would probably be against it since he didn't write it. It's definitely one of the band's very best songs.

I really think Hold Me and Blue Letter would make this set so much more exciting, it would add two more great surprise songs. Maybe they assume the audience doesn't want surprise songs.

BMW will likely never occur. I believe Rick suggested it for the Shake the Cage tour and John vetoed it because he felt that by that time the song was far more associated with Santana. And holy crap if they did, these boards would light up about how Lindsey can't play the guitar parts right, nobody can sing it right, etc. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Interesting insight! Always felt the band should reclaim the song as theirs. Christine has just the smooth, silky voice that would sound perfect for the vocals. You're right though, Lindsey would be setting himself up for a guitar-off comparison with Santana (yikes!).

They were able to make Everywhere sound good live back in 1997 and now. They should be able to do Hold Me.

Do we still think it's true that they did rehearse Hold Me and had planned on it being in the set?

Sisters of the Moon has been played a lot on recent tours hasn't it?
We all know it's very unlikely that they'll play anything pre 1975. But for 1975-1987 stuff Hold Me was a big hit. There's not any Tusk or Mirage songs on the set from Christine.

As Elle pointed out yesterday we know the leaked list was faked. For example, we had confirmation that Brown Eyes was never rehearsed and as such was not in the set. Yes, CM mentioned it in early interviews but we know it did not make it to rehearsal and only the band knows why.

Many of us like Hold Me and wish we would see it again but we also accept that will likely never happen. I have read previously, as others have stated, that the band did not like it live. There have been threads here about songs that do not transition to the stage and many Ledgies named Hold Me. This is not my opinion but it is how it is. We are all disappointed at certain elements of the setlist yet with this band it is what it is.
It is unfortunate that someone started the fake leaks but that happens...and I am glad we got some insider info to clarify for us.

Rock 'n' roll reunions: Four ways to make them feel so good

By Ross Raihala

[Excerpts]

Rock 'n' roll reunions remain big business. Just look at the two biggest Twin Cities concerts last month. Hometown heroes the Replacements packed St. Paul's Midway Stadium, while '70s rockers Fleetwood Mac sold out every last seat at Target Center in downtown Minneapolis.

Leave the door open

Last year, Fleetwood Mac was just another tired nostalgia act, churning out the same songs every few years with little enthusiasm. But then Christine McVie decided she was ready to come out of retirement and now the full "Rumours" lineup is on the road for one of the fall's hottest tours. The Pixies have been very careful to say Deal hasn't been replaced and that Paz Lenchantin is merely the band's touring bassist. A few years down the road, Deal could make a surprise return to the Pixies and breathe much-needed life back into the group.
