BlueCrystal was posting about unheard demos and the "Rhiannon" film project. "Lady" isn't one of the "Rhiannon" songs.

It looks like they think it was Knockin' On Doors. Note that they also mention Carousels in there, and also reference that it was on NicksFix. Guess I wasn't imagining things. :D

By my reckoning, "Lady" could be any of the following:

"Knocking On Doors"
"Rich Old Lady"
"China Doll"
"Lady From The Mountain"

My preference would be for "China Doll" to be resurrected, but I would also love a contemporary version of "Rich Old Lady".
I realise it's likely that "Lady" will turn out to be "Knocking On Doors", but I wouldn't have thought it would be considered single-worthy.
Imagine if it turned out to be "Lady From The Mountain" with the intense "so go with her" passage? Wow, that would be quite something...

StreetAngel86
08-14-2014, 04:15 AM
i would LOVE "Lady" to be Lady from the Mountain ... ala the RAL demo/outtake
Moonlight is good ... but it's not the same
i kind of secretly hope that she dusted off the original demo and redid it without all the additional "Twilight" influenced caca

"...you know that you loooooooooooooooooooooooooooove her..."

i have chills.

:woohoo:

With the single release of "Lady" looming (8/25), I was just wondering how the pre-order single digital downloads will work? Upon purchase of the 24KG bundle, the download of "The Dealer" was made immediately available, but it had already been released on ITunes. With regard to the three follow-up singles, does anyone know if those who pre-ordered 24KG will receive email notifications that the downloads are available? I'm assuming these will be issued concurrently with the ITunes release dates, but is there confirmation of what will actually occur?

So, we're allegedly getting the Lady single on Monday. Something that occurred to me is that, since there are three singles, and 6 tracks with running times available in iTunes (other than The Dealer), what if...

1. The Dealer was just the promo single for the record? and
2. Lady is the first official single, and will be complete with music video and b-side? and
3. The other two singles also come with b-sides, and possibly music videos as well?

That would at least explain the bizarre presence of some, but not all, running times in iTunes. Maybe we'll actually get two songs on Monday. I'm sure that's way too much to ask. :o I managed to get my hopes up anyway, lol.

But also, Warner Bros. says the singles are TBD. So what if the three songs we think are singles are actually the b-sides, and Blue Water, I Don't Care, and If You Were My Love are actually the singles? Could you imagine if we got Blue Water and Lady on Monday?

Ok, I'm going to stop hyperventilating over something that's extremely unlikely and go to bed. :D

Now that the snippet of "Lady" is up and we all know the song is a new version of "Knocking On Doors" we can start speculating :]. WOW!!! What a nice surprise to wake up to first thing on a Sunday morning! :blob2:

I love that they kept it simple ~ just Stevie and a piano. It forces us to listen to her voice as the main focal point. She's singing in a lower key, obviously, but it's not THAT MUCH lower, and she's still singing it exactly like the demo ~ hitting the higher notes.

Can't wait to hear this song in it's entirety. I have the day off today, but if I could wish it away as quickly as possible, I would! I wanna download "Lady" and listen to it NOW!!!

Especially during the "And I'm unsure and I can't see my way".

The song reminds me of old tunes from the 40's and her 'southern accent' that she conjures up works perfectly in this!
I figured Lady was going to be Knockin On Doors. The lyrics have always made me think that she's talking about being a cleaning Lady and Knocking On Doors for work while she waits for that big break (light). Like she wishes she could see into the future and find out how or when it will happen.
But Lindsey assures her; "Lady, you don't need to see" ...... It will happen!

And now Stevie gets to tell us the story many years later. After she obtained 'the light'. It's rather touching.

This surprised the hell out of me. Her vocals are AMAZING!!! This is her best vocal performance in a long time. It's so lovely to hear her range for once because for the last few years she hasn't properly shown what she can really do. This album is going to be bloody brilliant. :]

Oh and love the snippet. I don't think I've ever heard the demo before either. Her wonderful vibrato seems back. I hate to say this, but I always thought she sang differently after Steve Real came into the picture and Stevie proclaimed she never took lessons until then. I like her voice better untrained and wild.

I think the acclaim for IYD was about as good as any artist could ever expect. I read a lot of reviews; many called it great, and I don't remember any that didn't say it was at least good. I never thought I would see that kind of consensus about a Stevie album (and it's rare for anybody).

When I first listened to the iTunes snippet I wasn't blown away but after listening to the full song I've got to say it's quite IMPRESSIVE!

A couple stray thoughts after listening a few times:
1) how did this not go on a previous album? Although I'm glad it didn't because I'm not sure we'd have it in this understated piano only cut.
2) why isn't this the album closer? Its the type of ballad that normally would end an album but definitely leaves you wanting more.

All in all I have to say is "Great job!"

After repeated listenings I will say it is a tad too long. There's a point where it kind of quiets down and you think it's ended and it would be perfect to end right there….and then there's a pause and unexpectedly she starts up again, but alas only to repeat the same words a few times too many. But love her passion!

Reminds me of Dave's production on Italian Summer how he likes to start her out quietly and then have her build up to a real powerhouse ending.

Wow! What a powerful song! This is one of those universal songs. It can touch anyone in a state of despair, who's feeling alone, standing at the precipice thinking: What am I ever going to do? What's to become of me. What of the future?

Maybe you don't need to see the future. Just do today.

Very well said! I couldn't agree more.

If the BBC do not play this song.......I'm not paying my license fee next year.

Its a heart wrenching sound, wonderful lyrics (reminds me of Landslide a bit)
And with the rawness of her voice it sounds very emotional, But you can still hear and imagine the young woman that wrote the song in the first place.

It's a nice song, but I'm not over the moon about it the way everyone else seems to be. I'm a little surprised they didn't do more with it. I think there will be other songs on the album that I like better.

Also, I think IYD is a very good album, and not overproduced in the least.

I'm becoming pretty convinced this album might be a lock for Stevie's only truly critically acclaimed solo album. The not-clunky lyrics, the mature voice, the relatively stark production. I think they'll eat this up.

Agreed.

this doesn't even sound like regular!Stevie in some parts
i am impressed
coz I never liked the demo of this either
love that the piano is so prominent

the bit from 1:36 onwards aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah chills man.

still love The Dealer more
but this is REALLY REALLY good too :nod::nod:
and it does sound a lil Elton John-y :D which i dont mind

I like the way her voice sounds on the Instagram clip. She's straining badly on the first part of that iTunes clip. Meh. This is probably going to be one of those depressing songs I don't listen to much, like Has Anyone Ever Written...?

i like the strained bits
it suits the lyrics imo

I think the acclaim for IYD was about as good as any artist could ever expect. I read a lot of reviews; many called it great, and I don't remember any that didn't say it was at least good. I never thought I would see that kind of consensus about a Stevie album (and it's rare for anybody).

it's rare on THIS board for a handful of people to agree
let alone the majority :laugh::laugh::laugh:

What a rocker, huh!? Hope you're ok...you're at the epicenter! Rode it out myself with my dog and haven't been able to return to sleep. Best to you.

Thanks I'm fine just a few broken wine glasses and a lamp and so far no fatalities here yet but there are six people in critical condition at our big hospital here The Queen of the Valley .I just hope it was not a precursor of an even bigger one.Was a bit shell shocked this morning from getting rocked twice :laugh:One from the quake and again when I head the incredible performance of Lady.:blob2:

That's exactly what I was thinking, Kenny Rogers! Knocking on Doors is the key emphasis, and the obvious title, so leave it to Stevie for throwing the odd curve ball and entitling it the tepid 'Lady." Yuck.

Warner Brothers and I are not on good terms right now > : (

Pre-ordered the Lithograph bundle the day it was available. Then last night I get an email saying they canceled my pre-order because they tried to put an authorization hold on my bank account again (even though they did it already) and the money was not in there at that moment as I had bills to pay and get paid this tuesday. So I lost my lithograph and I am both angry as a hornet and sad because I wanted one sooooo bad.

However, just having been able to hear this song today I am contented for the moment.

I just got home from being out with friends and away from the world of the "internets" most of the day. Around 8pm, I got on my phone and checked this forum, as me and my friend Samantha were leaving a restaurant. Found the link to the entire song. We plugged my phone into Sam's car aux output so we could hear it.

...it was a punch in the gut. Damn. We sat in silence as it played through. Over halfway through, I look at Sam, who is in tears (definitely feeling the "lyrics" and thinking about some of the heavy things going on in her personal life.) and that set off my tears. We were just silent the rest of the way home. We listened to it two more times.

I just downloaded it now from iTunes and listened a few more times with my headphones on. It's still a punch in the gut! I don't give a damn if her vocals are "strained" at parts (it's not like that's a bad thing) but this woman is singing with more passion and feeling than I've heard come out of her in A LONG TIME! She is feeling this! She is feeling this memory, these old emotions come and gone from years ago. This is the passion we all knew she still had, but has been holding back for some strange reason for so long.

I'm so glad that it's just her and a piano. Thank God it wasn't overproduced. It never needed to be. The sentiment just called for a simple melody - a fitting tune simply there to accentuate the vocal, and the conviction within.

That's all I can really say at this moment. There are so many layers to digest inside this number.

The Single cover is incredible! :)

I just have a very positive vibe about this record. Like it might just become my all time favorite album of hers, surpassing others that have been in my top 5 for many decades. I have sincerely been happy with every sample, every song (with maybe a little less enthusiasm for "The Dealer", which is still very enjoyable to listen to) and every picture, and every bit of merch offered thus far. It might be presumptuous of me to say this, as I still haven't heard half of the other songs, but there hasn't been anything offered up yet to indicate, at the very least, that this is a subpar effort from her. I'm more excited about this than IYD.

I'll shut the hell up now.

So beautiful and so different from what she had done. I was so thrilled for IYD and so happy for all the good reviews she had gotten but I agree with everyone who says that 24K is probably going to give her much critical acclaim. I am glad she is pushing the envelope for herself and doing something different at this time in her life. Thank God for Stevie Nicks. Still giving all that she has. Still feels she has something to prove.

IYD and TISL got great reviews. In hindsight BD and TWH have increased in critical acclaim (Rolling Stone initially gave BD only 3 stars, now it's rated at 5 stars). Lately RAL and OSOTM have been called by some critics "under-rated".....I think ultimately only SA will remain as the Nicks album that isn't well received critically.

Listening to the singles "The Dealer" and "Lady", and the clips of the others, it's amazing that these songs kept being left off albums.

Come lately, I just keep waiting
I see nothing out there
The sun keeps throwin' out the light from the clouds
But there's no light in here
I know that things have to change
But how to change them isn't clear
I'm tired of knockin' on doors
When there's nobody there
You know I'm tired of knockin' on doors
When there's nobody there

And the time keeps going on by
And I wonder what is to become of me
And I'm unsure; I can't see my way
And he says, "Lady, you don't have to see"

And the time keeps going on by
And I wonder what is to become of me
And I'm unsure; I can't see my way
And he says, "Lady, you don't need to see"
And he says, "Lady, you don't need to see"

This is the passion we all knew she still had, but has been holding back for some strange reason for so long.

Great post. I think we are all feeling the same way, verging on unanimously. Which virtually never happens! But why?? Well, when was the last time Stevie really gave us chills like this?! That yearning, vulnerable desperation in her voice. And yet still leave us with that silver lining, that glimmer of hope, or faith - "Maybe you don't have to see"

These are the moments fans like us live for, and stick around hoping to catch a glimpse here & there. It's been since the 70s (live Rhiannon performances, "Silver Springs", her Tusk songs, & ALL her backing vocals, esp. with W.Egan, J.Stewart & T. Snow) - and then came The Wild Heart - where her ragged, vibrato belt was on display in full splendor, and to some degree (but more scarred) on RAL.

This is why I listen. Nobody moves me like Stevie Nicks. Sometimes it's her lyrics. Sometimes it's a vocal. But, when it's both, It's pure Stevie magic! Make no mistake about it, scarred voice and all, this is a rare moment in a 21st century Stevie Nicks recording. Dare I say *masterpiece*. Not only is this song universal. This is true artistry, like inexpressible colors, the image of a painting, that you can't explain with simple words: It simply touches your soul. And ultimatley, this is the basis of why Stevie transcended above the rest of FM. While "they" were perfecting their studio craft, Stevie was stirring the listeners soul. Yeah, they needed each other, but, I don't think "they" will ever admit just how much they needed Stevie.

Possibly, the only element that may have elevated this recording is *maybe* some very subtle strings on the final chorus through the ending. Nontheless, this song is pretty perfect. I'm so proud of Stevie. I'm so proud to be a Stevie fan right now.

iTunes has been a bit of a pain for me. It had disabled the purchase link for Lady (it just said "pre-ordered" where you would normally buy it), and there was no download option. I had to buy it from the standard (non-deluxe) version to actually get the song.

So evocative of the early 70's.
Like an old Leon Russell, Billy Joel, or Elton John classic.
She's on a roll. And sounding exactly like she deserves
to sound: pure and raw.

The vocal sounds like a live one-taker.
Happy she's abandoned the crap over-produced
sound of Rock a Little or OSOTM.

Yes indeed. And note that those moments are on emotionally compelling ballads. We get to hear the voice and the emotion.

Stevie Nicks previews new single 'Lady'

Robert Rheubottom

August 24, 2014

Stevie Nicks fans can check out a new clip of her upcoming single "Lady." The track is the Fleetwood Mac star's latest preview offering from her upcoming solo album titled, 24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault.

The two-time Grammy winner posted the teaser audio clip on Aug. 24 at her official Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=843434268999995&set=vb.190450387631723&type=2&theater) page. The 15 second clip unveils a verse of the soul searching ballad and features the singer-songwriter's sultry vocals accompanied by a simple piano arrangement.

The song, also know by the title "Knocking on Doors," evolved from a 5:30 minute demo, which was written and recorded during sessions for Buckingham Nicks in the early 1970s, which never made the album. "Lady" will be the follow up to the album's debut single "The Dealer" and will be released on Aug. 25 and available in digital format. Click here (http://rockalittle.com/24k/index.html) for more details.

The enduring pop diva rearranged and re-recorded the demo in the studio and has included it among 14 songs on "24 Karat Gold." The album is a collection of self-penned songs, which the pop diva recorded over the years, but never released on an album. Co-produced by Nicks along with ex-Eurythmics co-frontman Dave Stewart and longtime Nick's bandmember and session guitarist Waddy Wachtel, the tracks were newly recorded in Nashville and mixed in Los Angeles.

Nicks previously previewed five other tracks from the album earlier this month, including "The Dealer," "If You were My Love," "Mabel Normand," "Belle Fleur" and "All the Beautiful Worlds." "24 Karat Gold" is available for pre-order and will be released Oct. 7 on the Reprise label. Click here for more information.

The diminutive songstress will hit the road this fall with the reunited Fleetwood Mac classic line-up, which will include the newly rejoined Christine McVie. The tour kicks off the tour in on Sept. 20 in Minneapolis, Minneapolis, at Target Centre and wrap up in on Dec. 14 in Dallas, Texas, at American Airlines Centre. For more information, click here (http://www.axs.com/).

Did you know? 24 Karat Gold: Songs from the Vault is Stevie Nicks 10th solo album and a follow up to her highly successful 2011 studio album In Your Dreams.

iTunes has been a bit of a pain for me. It had disabled the purchase link for Lady (it just said "pre-ordered" where you would normally buy it), and there was no download option. I had to buy it from the standard (non-deluxe) version to actually get the song.

Next time just click on the "complete my album" link and it will let you purchase the song. I had the same problem at first.

Still not a fan of lyric videos, but I must say that this one is a VAST IMPROVEMENT over "The Dealer" lyric vid. I love the room, the window and the tree outside. Obvi they had more time to spend making this one. Guess this means we'll get lyric vids for "Starshine" and "24 Karat Gold" as well.

Although, I'm really chomping at the bit for a REAL video!

The pending charge disappearing is a function of the credit card company, not WB. They only let a charge stay pending for a limited period of time.

I wonder what happened with Stevie during the last 5 years. She seems so confident and self-assured today.

Considering how reluctant she was to make a new record at all before IYD and now she’s throwing out something like that, raw and unpolished, just her voice and the piano. I guess she wouldn't have the guts to do something like this ten years ago.

I keep my fingers crossed, that the critics will like it. She deserves it, ‘Lady’ deserves it.

Phew. My email finally came at 5:31 a.m. Tuesday EST.... only one came, though. When The Dealer email was sent, I got two since I ordered the litho bundle separately from the vinyl. I was going to send the second one to my mom, since she's the one buying the bundle for me!

I also realized I could check my order status in the store and, sigh of relief, it's all still there.

But wow... this version is much higher quality than the YouTube / Spotify one I listened to all day yesterday.

I'm in love with it. It already affects me like Landslide... there's a certain frustration, fear, and uncertainty about the future that really strikes you when you're in your early 20s, and the lyrics just really hit a chord with me. And the raw, emotional vocals only enhance it. Plus, it's a bit of a reassurance knowing that you are not alone. Even Stevie Nicks felt that way when she wrote the song. I rarely, rarely hear a song written these days that speaks to that feeling.

^^^Love this post.....

Its similar to how I felt when I heard the first notes of the whole song - this is something really special. It felt like a wonderful gift and a privilege to be listening to it for the first time. This song is so perfectly suited to 66 year old Stevie.

Also...this must be a powerful song. My 5 year old daughter becomes still, quiet and peaceful when I play it - not many things have that effect on her, I can't think of another song that has had that effect. When I asked her if she liked it - she smiled and nodded. :) It seems to be a song that makes you drop everything, stop in your tracks and just listen.

Wow! I like it. If this truly dates back to the Buckingham Nicks days, I can totally see Stevie having a moment of doubt while they were struggling so hard to make it, and "He" (being Lindsey) giving her that reassurance that it would be ok. Also, the "Lady, you don't need to see" makes me think in a broader way, of faith in the spiritual sense. As in, "I know you are confused and afraid, but trust in me. I can see the bigger picture that you can't and eventually things will work out for your good". Just another way it speaks to me. Hooray! I made my first post! I don't post often but this time I felt like I had to chime in. This song totally got me. I really started to tear up. It is why I fell in love with Stevie back in 1975. It has that intangible thing, that totally raw emotion that is the essence of Stevie. I love the vocal. I'm going through some bad stuff now and the lyrics to this song are where I'm at and it gives me strength. Thank you Stevie for once again making me fall in love again with your music. Well I never stopped but this one is A+ in my book. I can never get enough!!!

SHE HAS GOT TO PLAY THIS ONE LIVE!!!!! It could be the new song she ends her solo concerts with. And even better with Stevie playing it on piano. That not going to happen but I do see it as a show closer.

I wonder what the rest of the members of FM think of her record? I just hope whenever they do record the album that Dave is doing Stevie's songs because it just seems like she is so much more confident again with her writing and singing. Just hoping he's available by the time they get around to recording.

Can't wait to hear what the critics think of this one. If they don't like, they are idiots!!!

I actually wonder if it was someone else. Lindsey has said she um…strayed… a couple of times in their relationship. She herself has admitted she has been unfaithful in different relationships but has always been forgiven and taken back. I can imagine them working on their music and him being the task-master he can be and her getting discouraged after the BN album failed and…turning to someone else for reassurance. But with Stevie we never know!!!

After absorbing the song, I can honestly say that I love it to pieces. It's simply stunning. Just Stevie and the piano, with her voice really soaring. The moments of vocal strain just add to the charm of this song. I'm so glad she never recorded this song earlier in her career, as it's such a fitting song for an older artist.

Agree totally.

But, I also think it's more than that.

Her dad and mom have both died. She's pushing 70. How many more years can she hold onto these songs and worry about them being perfect? How many more years will there be to record new albums? How many years were wasted worrying about image, weight, perception, vocals, sales - things that really don't matter because art is subjective. What *could* her output have been between 1986 and 2011?

I'm sure Stevie feels her own mortality more than ever.

Whatever it is, I'm just glad that it *is*.

I agree 100%. Stevie has recorded this song at the PERFECT moment in her career. The vocal and piano are STUNNING. It's going to be one of my favorites from the new record. I also agree with the earlier poster in that it would make a GREAT closing song to her solo concert. For me, "Lady" has come along at the perfect moment. I must admit, I wasn't really enthused about "The Dealer". It was never one of my favorite demos, and the new version doesn't really improve on the demo. BUT, ""LADY" is AMAZING !!!!!!!!! I can't say enough great things about it!!! What a beautiful insightful little tune.

I'm sure Stevie feels her own mortality more than ever.

I think she truly believes she will live well into her nineties, as she often says the women in her family do.

Of course, that doesn't mean she thinks her voice will be good that long. So, I agree with you she may feel a certain urgency. She knows she can't sing and perform forever, but I don't think she feels her own mortality, other than to estimate she might have 25-30 more years. When it comes to thoughts of death, she probably is sad for all of her friends whom she expects to go before she does.

you know she is going to outlive all of them
which would be kind of sad
but awesome as well
i mean, she has abused her vessel quite substantially
and yet here she still is :xoxo:

well someone badgered Richard Dashut into listening to Lady and giving his opinion.

He thinks it's about a minute too long and under-produced; needs some Lindsey guitars and a bunch of backing vocals.

I must say when I initially heard the snippet I was unimpressed. Certain parts were definitely strained and not on "point", but after having given the total song a few listens I think its definitely grown on me. Its a bit slow to start but the strength each recitation of the chorus gives is haunting and powerful. I think the rawness and not directly on pitch in certain points gives it authenticity and underscores the pain of the song.

I hope this is the case with Star Shine and I don't care which are my least favorite snippets so far.

At first when someone said it seemed like he was posting to try and get back in Lindsey's good graces I thought the notion was absurd......But after his take on Lady I am thinking it is the case lol

I agree that the song is too long.

But guitars, backing vocals?? Nooooo. He clearly misses the point. The appeal of the demos was the intimacy of the production-- just Stevie and the piano. What he sees as under-produced I see as just right, on this song.

One of Fleetwood Mac's most enduring, beloved songs -- and one from Richard's time with the band, no less -- spotlights Christine's voice and her piano. That alone should be a strong reminder to Richard that sometimes less is more.

How he can think that "Lady" needs guitar, backing vocals and more production is beyond me. It's gorgeous in its simplicity. That piano and Stevie's voice are the be-all and end-all for those 5 minutes.

I have to agree with Richard on one count- the song is definitely about a minute too long. The lyrics are very repetitive and drag on & the song would have a bigger impact (IMO) if it were shorter.

I couldn't disagree more regarding a more elaborate style of production, though. It took some serious guts for Stevie to release something this raw & flawed, and I'm honestly very proud of her for taking that risk. I think if this song were more lushly produced, it might come across as disingenuous. Lady will never be a favorite of mine, and I probably will never listen to it on the album, but I'm grateful to have it. It's a huge statement about who Stevie is right now, it's a clear snapshot of her unfiltered talent.

Exactly... this is Stevie's Songbird. I do wish Lady had a bit of the atmosphere Songbird did, though. The theater Songbird was recorded in provided that fullness of sound Lady is missing. Extra instrumentation or vocals would ruin the song, though.

Well Moonlight, Italian Summer, ghosts are gone, and Annabelle were all too long. She has a real problem with that.

I agree wholeheartedly! Looking at the running times for some of these new songs, both "Lady" and "If You Were My Love" are about 5 mins and "I Don't Care" clocks in at over 6 minutes!

And yet you have songs like "Blue Water" at 4:46 and "24 Karat Gold" at 4:09 which, in demo form, clock in at nearly 6 and a half to 7 mins each. I think it bodes well that the two of those tracks were scaled back.

But back to "Lady"...still adore it even if it does run too long! ;)

If they were going for radio play with "Lady," then I would say that, yes, it does need to be edited down. However, for album tracks, I don't feel that it -- or any of the four songs Jondalar mentioned -- is too long.

Of course, I have to admit that I'm partial to long, epic-length songs. Even if sections are repeated.

well, but it is the single, right? do they think it'll get played on radio this long? I think for radio (if anyone actually got played on radio anymore) it should stop at 3:11 (1:45 shorter!! eeks) Or cut out one of the repetitions at the end and just get to that nice build up and ending sooner.

^^This, completely. Sure, chop it up for radio, but leave the album cut for something closer to the artist's vision. I think Lady could maybe have benefited from a more complex piano piece in the middle, and in that context, it probably isn't long enough. But it's really, really good the way it is, so that's more of a "what I would have done if it were my song" conjecture than a complaint of any kind.

The current radio success "recipe" is that the song is around 3 minutes, and the chorus comes in around 30 seconds.

Well, this and "The Dealer" are digital singles -- but, so far, there have been no promo CDs sent out to radio for either of these two tracks. So there's a distinct possibility that the first officially-released radio single, will be another track altogether. Or, if it does turn out to be one of these two, Warners will most assuredly issue a "radio edit."

I wouldn't mind the length if there was more lyrical content, but singing the same verse/chorus four times over is a little excessive. However, it is still a great song, but would have benefited more from a bit of editing. It reminded me of Italian Summer, where she just belted out the same verse/chorus over and over.

Disagree. The length sometimes makes the song truly epic. Annabel Lee's coda is my favorite part of the song. Moonlight is about perfect. I also love the long versions of Gypsy and Planets Of The Universe.

I think it could be a minute or so shorter, but I don't think it needs to be. For me, the building vocal is more than enough to keep it interesting despite the repetition in the lyrics. But each to their own, of course.

As for the production, I think it showcases the lyrics perfectly, and what beautiful lyrics they are. I think Stevie might have out-poignanted herself here.

Now to more technical matters:

i got mine 13:32 aussie o'clock
but we should have gotten them before they were available from itunes etc
i am impatient. i paid for mine

Did you order yours from the Australian store? I was overseas when the pre-orders started, so I only ordered mine last week. (And to tell you the truth, I'm not really sure what I've ordered but I knew damn well I wanted it!) Initially I didn't think I was getting any digital downloads with mine, and then The Dealer appeared in my inbox this morning, but still no Lady. I also don't seem to have an account with the store, even though I thought I did. So confused.
