View Full Version : security shoving hot young girls in front of Lindsey?
this is from the report by MadnessFades, from Dublin yesterday:
I had standing tickets and was in first but had to move back a little bit because the crew were literally handpicking heaps of sexy girls from the crows and putting them right in front of lindsey. There must of been 30 of them. Not a single line of any song did the know. One didn't even know who was who in the Stevie lindsey name thing..
some people were reporting stuff like this at the end of the US leg too.
seems weird. so fans like Madness can come and stand in line really early for GA entrance but don't get to stand at the stage?
someone else noticed this? (sounds kinda like something that would be done for some metal band with groupies or something ) if it's happening, whose idea is it? Lindsey's? band security's?

I would hope Lindsey is not that lecherous. If it was him, I suggest people petition Kristen to put a stop to it.

well, he definitely likes to flirt and i'm sure he doesn't mind pretty young girls fawning over him, that's only natural. that said, i would be surprised if it was his idea, tbh. he seems really happy to see familiar faces, male or female, young or old, hot or not so much, and interacts with all. you normally don't see him paying more attention to hot young girls than other people at the stage, everybody gets equal share of interactions - and loads of it!
but who knows?

I don't think it's his idea. If it was, Stevie would have already put a stop to it before it even happened.

Yes, while he might appreciate the pulchritude, I don't think he would like the idea that veteran, familiar fans were being pushed back to make room for people who are casual fans at best. They may know Looking Out for Love, vaguely.

why would she put a stop to it if it was his idea but not if it was FM's crew or security or somebody like that?

I'm not sure who among the band is privy to that part of the show, but I see her as the most likely candidate to observe that. Maybe if she knew who exactly among the crew who is responsible for that, but surely they couldn't be blind to it, IDK.

Maybe she's doing it to keep him occupied and out of her hair. Maybe she sends Karen out to lasso up young gals.

I'm sure both Lindsey and Mick are happy to see young, pretty faces up front, to break up the geritol crowd a bit, but, I agree with what you both said. I really can't see Lindsey making such a request. I think the security guy just may be a little gung-ho in trying to please the boys in the band.

Or maybe the security guy is flirting with these girls himself. He gets them up front and they pay more attention to him.

There was something similar last night. We were told they were VIPs but they did appear to know the sings and the band as well as many of the other people up the front (except for the Ledgies!).

Yeah, they definitely were doing this toward the latter half of the US leg as well. At first people thought it might have been because they were filming the show and wanted younger faces up front for the cameras... But that clearly wasn't the reason as they did it more and more.
In past threads people were speculating that if they got the young kids up front, they might have an overall more awesome experience and go home and tell their friends about it. But that seems like kind of a stretch and rather complicated. As much as I hate to admit it, it would make more sense if it were done so Lindsey could look at some hot girls for a few hours, or so the security guy might find a desperate one willing to pay him some extra attention.
Does anyone here go to many other mainstream boy-rock concerts? I don't, but I wouldn't be surprised if such practices were pretty standard in the genre. I imagine it might be viewed as a standard part of the job for a road crew. It probably wasn't Lindsey's idea, as it's just too difficult to picture him approaching a road crew and explicitly asking for such a thing. But I wouldn't rule out that possibility either, really, and either way, he obviously hasn't asked them to stop. Men enjoy what they're programmed to enjoy, and powerful men have the means to enjoy more of it. I have a hard time being too surprised or bothered by it.

I have definitely noticed LB giving more attention to the young hot chicks, not saying it was his idea, although I don't think it would surprise me. I was at a show where he practically ignored most of us in front of him in favor of flirting with a pretty blonde 20 year old all night, including putting his guitar right in front of her to strum, high fiving only her and giving her a pick. It was annoying to the rest of us, and I felt insulting to true fans. She may have been a real fan but I have seen plenty of others at the stage who didn't know one word and really didn't even know anything about the band.

I'm wondering that as well. If I were a hot young thing who didn't know who Fleetwood Mac was, I'm sure I'd be spending my time and money elsewhere.
Perhaps they are offered free tickets on the basis of their hotness? But even then, giving up an evening to a band you're not very interested in seems like a weird choice to me.

Perhaps our hypothetical hot-young-women selves have a lot of unresolved daddy issues? Hmmm...
Someone going to the London concerts should find one of these women and ask her some questions about her relationship with her father. I smell a thesis, people!

On a date with a guy who is into guitars? Some may be there to see Stevie or attending with older friends or family who are fans. And maybe they are groupies too who have met the band / crew and have been given free tickets anyway.

I suppose. But these people then willingly separate from their parties to go up and get close to an old guy on an ego trip (not to belittle LB, but if I were a non-fan that's likely how he might come off at the time)? I'm not saying that's an unlikely scenario. Just trying to get the situation clear in my head.

I have no idea - the girl I saw was already at the front with her boyfriend, I assume.
I have seen groups of girls go up front together. I was speculating on the reasons these non fans may be there not that all of them aren't familiar with the music to a degree. But say they met the band or crew in a bar and have kept in touch then they are just there for the gawk factor anyway and to say they went. I'm not sure the offer would be made as in separate from your party - surely people would say they are with a group and the offer would be extended to everyone.

Hm fair enough. I clearly need to go to more gigs. These behaviours are still quite mysterious to me. But I'm sure Lindsey enjoys himself. And in a way, it's a nice cozy reminder that he's a normal human guy, and not a "serious artist" 24/7.

It may not be his idea, but I think he would have to be dead not to enjoy it. I'm just saying, share the love . Lol.
Who knows - maybe it makes FM feel less old to have younger beautiful people in the sea of faces at their feet every night. It must be a heck of a wake up call when the folks your age are sitting down yawning because it's past their bedtime and you're left with some middle aged fans who are reliving their youth. I'm sure it's an encouragement to see young people there at all or kids and to think you have made a mark musically that will continue to touch people - maybe it motivates them to want to make new fans and put on a better show.
And it probably is a big stroke to the egos. I mean I am amazed at the young fans on twitter after every show making it know they would still like to sleep with Stevie or Lindsey despite their ages. I wonder if they are aware of that.

They are aware. One of my favorite stories comes from a young Ledgie who told Stevie how hot she was at one of those Barnes & Noble things and Stevie's response was, "you know I'm old enough to be your Grandmother, right?"

I think they do it to make the stage area look younger, hipper, and more exciting. They don't want FM to look like a boring old nostalgia act. They want the stage to be surrounded by excited youthful 20 something's dancing and having fun, so it looks like a hipper crowd. I don't know if it's fair or wrong or whatever but I see the reasoning.
3 of my bestfriends were pulled up before (the infamous "we're legal" girls). Luckily in their case they are indeed real die hard fans (one having even flown cross country for the show!) and know everything and have histories following the band and Stevie solo, which actually everyone in my close group of friends has. We're lucky to have had so many opportunities for such young women. (:

At the show in San Jose Lindsey flirted with the young 18 year girl standing next to me all night long. It was really weird. We were right up at the front and all through the night he'd walk over and give a her this lecherous stare and smile that were just creepy. It was distracting and uncomfortable to watch. For the girl too. She said she liked that he noticed her at first but after a while it all became too much and wanted to go back to her seat a few rows back. I wondered how many other girls he was doing this with.
We were in Lindsey's hometown so I also wondered why he was behaving this way with his wife, family, and friends probably in attandance. Turns out they were all at the LA show a few days later. Hopefully he was better behaved there.

Look younger and hipper to who, though? The band themselves? Is there any point in trying to skew the representation of a band's true fanbase to the band themselves in that way? I'm not saying it's wrong, I just don't know if I see the reasoning there. If they were filming a DVD, perhaps it would make sense, but otherwise? I think I'm more inclined to think the reasoning is of a more... erm... base nature. ;)

blahhh I literally felt myself getting mad at this information (or the thought of Lindsey requesting girls being placed in front of him)...but then I kind of thought it through...
I think (and I hope) that people are just reading too much into things...it does not surprise me that groups of girls are being treated like VIPs. Also, a lot of times concert venues will have extra tickets that are up front and offer them to lucky fans...it seems natural that if the security guy (or a male worker) has them he'd offer them to good looking girls first, or if cute blonde 20 year olds are begging for a better seat, I'm sure they'd do it in an effort to flirt with the girls themselves.
It also seems like LB picks a few people to flirt with over others....but I also have seen him give sweat towels and sign stuff for people at shows that aren't 20 and blonde. I think I've read stories on here about him flirting and kissing women who were older and brunette too! I guess I just had to tell myself all these things to make it better lol

It's interesting. In the case of Lindsey's career with FM, being treated/acting as a sex icon, so to speak, has probably been so intertwined with his work in the band for so long that it is probably difficult to separate, even after his age has begun to betray him a little in that regard. I'm not going to reduce all his behaviour to just being "part of the job" but I do think that has to be a part of the thinking behind it, in his mind.

Regardless of the motivation or whose idea it was to put them there, isn't the bigger issue that someone who had their place at the stage fair and square got pushed back in order to accommodate people much less interested in the show? I would be seething.

I think just in general. They often have cameras taping the shows just in case, and usually in those cases they tape multiple shows for the best takes. Also keep in mind they probably want the stage to look younger and more exciting to the actual crowds there and also in the bootlegs and YouTube videos and all that. They want people to leave feeling like they were just at an exciting hip show rather than a boring sit-down nostalgia act. I see the reasoning. I've been to Stevie shows with all executive type people in the front rows sitting down silently and sipping their drinks and looking like they just don't care, and without a doubt the shows I've been to with more excited, fun fans up front (regardless of age or sex) who were jumping, singing, dancing, and having fun, were much better shows and experiences in my opinion.

This whole post was uncomfortable to read because I am only 14 years younger than Lindsey. He is not creepy by any means but I'm sure if I was 18 it could feel that way from a younger perspective.
i'm reading through some of the comments in this thread and one thing that jumped on me is that some people seem to put the blame on these girls being offered to come close to the stage. i don't understand that reasoning. if you were at the rock concert, seeing some legendary band, and you have a good but not a great ticket, wouldn't you be THRILLED to be offered to move close to the stage?
people go to plenty of concerts of bands they are not a huge fans of, but know a few songs they heard on the radio and want to check them out. or want to see a legendary band before they die off . young girls who are not huge fans wouldn't have that much opportunity to hear FM songs on the radio, unless it's classic rock. why would you question them for going to the show in the first place?
so they are at the show, they are offered this amazing opportunity to take it in from close to the stage, and wow, they discover not only this rock star is not dead yet but he's very much alive, hot and interactive. and they become enamored and huge fans. and they take it to twitter and rave about it for days after (there's several of them doing exactly that on twitter as we speak, after the Dublin show :) ), and maybe even look up band's music ;).
so, if placing the blame on anybody, it certainly should be on these girls.

You may have a point. I've always sort of judged the audience by the people sitting in my immediate vicinity. The idea that people are paying attention to those in the front row hadn't really occurred to me. And with bootleg footage etc, that does make some amount of sense.
This whole post was uncomfortable to read because I am only 14 years younger than Lindsey. He is not creepy by any means but I'm sure if I was 18 it could feel that way from a younger perspective.
"Only" doesn't seem like a fair word to use here, viv. But I agree with your sentiment. I resent the often-perpetuated idea that being attracted to attractive people suddenly becomes "creepy" once you hit a certain age. I certainly don't plan on stopping myself from looking as I get older. However, I think continually pursuing someone who isn't expressing any interest whatsoever means "creepy" could be a fair word to use. Or at least "uncomfortable". But as I said, I do think, when you've had the life of Lindsey Buckingham, it may be more difficult to gauge things like that.

That certainly wasn't how I meant to come off, elle, if you were talking about me. I wouldn't even use the word "blame" at all in this situation. I don't consider it a "bad" situation in the first place. It's all more or less fair play. I just find it all interesting/curious and am trying to make sense of all the angles, as someone who really doesn't go to concerts very much at all.
I have to say though, to answer your question, I probably would stay put in a situation like that. Getting up so close to a rock star that I may or may not be very familiar with at the behest of a crew member sounds like a recipe for extreme discomfort to me. I can certainly understand people reacting differently though. And am getting more insight into different perspectives from your post and others in this thread. I'm enjoying the discussion.

see - so happens that big fans get pulled upfront too! although "we are legal" girls do not need any security guy to show them the way to the stage . they made their way there even without being asked in Jones Beach, the same as my little group. they were great and certainly contributed to the show being interactive and getting slightly of its regular course, which is always fun! :)
lindsey interacted with them because they were engaging him, the interaction didn't start from him. he interacted with bunch of other people too, at that show, young and old, male and female. of course he was flattered and slightly frazzled when propositioned by 18-year olds, what man wouldn't be?
and just if anybody's wondering, these girls are not blonde, so that's not a prerequisite. :p

 he interacts with the audience and that's great and thrilling for everybody. not every performer does. my 10yo loved it, said "Lindsey makes faces at people" during the show. i thought that's actually a perfect description of what he does.
he also remembers at least some of the people who he's seen at several of his shows, solo or FM, and obviously appreciates that and gives these people little extra attention, regardless of their age, look, or gender. at meet and greets when talking to people, i've never seen him giving more attention to people based on their looks, he seems surprisingly honest, and respectful with everybody.
btw WildHearted, i've seen you in some of those vids, you are gorgeous!
My first guess would be that they were perhaps filming, and that was the reason for not having the geriatrics up front.
Nobody wants to see grandma's cleavage!

Stevie bathes in La Mer. But surgery isn't out of the question either. Chris probably has had some work done too. Probably before she went off to Maui.

but don't think they hand-picked at Saban. they did fill in a row that was empty (like 4th row in the middle). maybe it's different if they're filming for solo vs Mac shows though.

I've read the previous post and the one thing that seems to be left out is the fact that Lindsey is just a guy. I mean guys are pretty simple (no offense intended) and they like to look a hot girls period. There's nothing usual about it, and if you have the power to make that wish come true, then what guy would not use it. That doesn't mean that Lindsey is messing around with any groupies after the show, but what guy (rock star or not) wouldn't want some hot, cute girl in front of them, dancing around, clapping and screaming their name?
(IMO) Lindsey doesn't feel comfortable with his age, or getting older (I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way) and he's got a pretty big ego, so the man likes cute woman up front . OK, I'm not going to be mad at him for that, but what I am mad about is the fact that many fans that have paid a lot of money for front row seats are being pushed back several rows so (again IMO) Lindsey can feel like he's living back in 1977.
And I don't for a second think that Lindsey doesn't know it's happening, or that it was done without Lindsey requesting it. I'm not sure if the guy's picking the girls are from the band's private security or from the security that is provided by each venue, but it seems to me that it would have to be the security provided at each venue doing the picking as Lindsey doesn't seem to use/have have any security around him.
I could see some security guy's provided by some of the the venues along the way thinking they would do Lindsey a favor and put hot girls up front, or maybe just using it as a way to get to know some girls, but if it's become a common occurrence at every show (and the band doesn't tape every show) and the number of girls getting put up front are really large (one Ledgie said 30 girls?) then it's being done by request and not just some guys trying to get a girls number or a hook up.
(IMO) I also don't see Kristen or Stevie being able to stop it either. Lindsey does what Lindsey wants to do, and he will fight you tooth and nail if you try to take his freedom away.

If it's being done by the band's own security then I think it's definitely being done by request. When you are touring with a group of people it's hard to keep a secret for very long. Also, I don't think the security guys would try to keep it a secret anyway, most likely they would tell Lindsey he could thank them for the hot girls standing in front of him the next day.
If Lindsey did not like it, he could tell them to stop and you know they would, but it seem like he likes it. Again, guys are guys and (IMO) Lindsey likes to feel young and look at young women. Nothing abnormal about it, it just sucks for some of the fans.

This is not a phenomenon that I've noticed going on at shows I've seen. Yes, there are women at the front of the stage, but I haven't seen them escorted there by security. The ones I see usually elbow their way up there, past the people who had upfront tickets. No one brings them there.
I don't know enough about the people security guards bring up to the front to have a strong opinion about why it happens. But I don't conclude that Lindsey requested it, especially since it doesn't happen at his own solo shows.
I find the conjecture about who did it, who can stop it and why they don't all very amusing, but highly unfounded.

I haven't noticed a widespread move either. In Columbus there were a few escorted up to rows 3-6ish but this seemed mainly to fill empties (I think we were in row 6 centre) For example, 2 aisle seats were empty for a good half an hr and the security guy moved up two young ladies, but this was row 4 or so. I wouldn't have noticed but they were a bit tipsy and dancing around etc.

Yes, they do seem very concerned with having people standing at the stage (to my chagrin). I have seen security telling those sitting in the front rows to come up, reminding them that they can and should. But it wasn't being done on a discriminate basis, just whoever was sitting in the front before the show started.

Well I guess I did forget to put (IMO) on the last post, so my bad. Also (and this is all conjecture) in his solo shows, since the setting is smaller and the seating is tighter, I would not think anything like this would happen as security would literally have to ask people to move out of their seats so the "hotter" women could sit down. The way I understood the last few post (and maybe I'm misunderstanding them) the" hotter" women are not taking anyone's seat they are just standing in front of Lindsey microphone. However, the fans that have paid for front row seats are being pushed back because of the crowd.
Also, you know most of what happens in and around this band is unfounded and almost all conjecture, so that's nothing new.

I don't think "IMO" is necessary. It's always a given.
Yes, conjecture always runs rife. I understand that guards are bringing women up at some shows, but wouldn't know why they do it.
No, Lindsey's solo shows aren't too small to have people up front. There's always plenty of room in front of the stage and people do stand there more often than not. Lindsey seems to be fueled by their enthusiasm at his solo shows and if there is no one standing there, he seems disappointed. There'd be every opportunity to pull "hot" people up to the stage if that's what he wanted to do. Apparently, he doesn't.
At FM shows, people stand in front of the people in the front row no matter what, hot or not. The people in the front row have the opportunity to go to the stage if they feel like it. If they don't go, their view will be obstructed by those who do. I would prefer to sit in my front row seat comfortably without having anyone stand in front of me, but that is not the case. They encourage the stage standers.
The people in the first 3 rows always have the first choice to stand in front.
What people have been talking about here is people who don't have front tickets and who normally would not get past arena ushers, since their tickets aren't front tickets, being invited to come and stand near the stage.

Definitely it's not something he always does, but he has. And, I don't blame him, he's human - but it was discouraging / disappointing to me because that was the first time I had ever been at the stage for any show and for it to be FM and be in front of him was thrilling. But I agree with your sentiment. I resent the often-perpetuated idea that being attracted to attractive people suddenly becomes "creepy" once you hit a certain age. I certainly don't plan on stopping myself from looking as I get older.
Not to hijack this thread but as a young woman in her twenties (and not too far removed from her teens), I feel that it's one thing to catch an older man taking a quick look, but anything more than that, I really start to feel threatened and/or creeped out (well, in fairness, I feel uncomfortable if men of any age gawk or ogle, but there is admittedly less of a creep factor with younger men than compared to older men). In hindsight, as a well-endowed young teenager, I really, REALLY felt uncomfortable with older men checking me out. Like, my fight or flight would kick in. I think whether you resent it or not, some girls and women are going to be creeped out by you checking them out because you've reached a certain age. That might not stop you from staring, but you can't stop them from feeling creeped out, because like for me, I can't help when my feeling of fight or flight kicks in with certain men (and men of a certain age).
I think it's one thing to admire someone being attractive and taking a quick peak and another thing to feel entitled to gaze upon them just because you find them attractive. That's ignoring them as a person with feelings, and essentially, objectifying them.

Well, that's true whether you're objectifying an older or a younger person. If you're just ogling them, it's impolite and perverted. It's like Stevie saying that movie stars just stared at her, like they were undressing her and she felt violated. She said that made her feel uncomfortable. She didn't think that rock stars were that forward.
Of course, I do think it's even worse when there is a large age difference between the pervert and his or her prey. It reminds me of the Seinfeld when George and Jerry lost the NBC job for staring at the executive's daughter. Jerry admonished him that 17-year old cleavage was off limits.

That's so interesting and surprising. Although perhaps because she was a colleague, they saw her more as a peer/whole person, compared to movie stars who may have seen her in a more distant/disconnected way? In general, I can't help but wonder though if rock stars objectify the general woman more, considering the relationship between rock/music and groupies/prostitutes? The security guy was really nice, and just made it clear that we should all (in the first 2 or 3 rows, whatever it was) feel free to come on up. It was actually appreciated, as it overrode the venue security when they weren't being so generous. I'm just an average middle-aged type, myself, and the security was as nice to me as they were to the hot, young girls. I never was asked to move over, or give up my spot. I realize it might be somewhat different with GA, but even so, it just wasn't an issue.

Not on stage, and not in random meetings off stage. Having said that, I'm sure he probably enjoys the attention from the young ladies. Why not? But I can't see him requesting it. And frankly, there are always a fair number of hot, young people up near the front anyways, who paid for the seats, so it's not really even necessary to bring up more.

No, actually it's not. It might seem odd to many, but they'd both be adults.
At any rate, there are teenagers and twenty somethings at every concert who are clearly crazy about Lindsey (or Stevie), and make no effort to hide how they feel, so it goes both ways. And that's not unique to FM. It happens with most older rockers.

This is what Stevie said, but you know how she likes to generalize.
"I wouldn't like to be in movies. Movie people are strange. They live a different life than musicians do. They get up early and work in the day. And I really think they're much wilder than we are. One time, four movie guys walked up to me at a party after a show. I was looking good. And they took me apart with their eyes. I was so completely insulted that I never forgot it. They were so slick and smooth and suited up; it looked like they all had had face lifts with perfectly tanned faces. I'm just a hippie. I wouldn't fit very well into that world. True, that is quite hard to tell. But if one of the parties involved sends body language that tells the other he or she feels uncomfortable with the situation, it's either one needs to back off, or the other needs to walk away.

This happened a few years ago when Stevie's Soundstage was being filmed, iirc. I could be wrong on the event, but it was for a recorded show. Several Ledgies were invited to the front row because they were young and pretty. Men and women. Remember when she did the Today Show in '05 and all anyone could talk about after was Model Girl, whom they kept showing during Landslide?
If this wasn't for a taping, maybe it was just for the photogs so it wouldn't look like rich, old ticket-holders were the only ones in the first few rows. Just to prove that FM is still popular with the coveted 18-25 demographic.

are standing in front of him at the concerts feel like
they're being ogled - they need to move along. That
is, if they don't like it.
of course he can't. that was the whole point of yelling "we are legal" by those girls in Jones Beach.
also, i'm not sure how people get the impression that audience members are being ogled by the band?! band is kinda busy up there, if anybody's ogled it's the band members. ;)
what Lindsey does is making eye contact with people, he smiles and makes faces. he doesn't "ogle" anybody in the audience. he may make more eye contact with someone who is trying to engage him, or someone who may be very pretty to look at. people may interpret this eye contact as "eye sex" or however they like or want, but basically he is just making faces. if you want to avoid any eye contact, don't look in his eyes, look at his guitar since you are there for the music anyway.

I was at the front last night and he kept looking at a pretty young woman right in front of him. She seemed that she was flirting right back, her boyfriend was with her, but you could tell she was such a massive fan.
Lindsey weren't bothered about me: middle age woman standing there. I think even at one point he gave me a dirty look.

I was the 'pretty, young woman' (thank-you!) last night.
Lindsey was super engaged and very friendly. I came away with a warm heart, a setlist and a plectrum. I moved to the front from my seats on the third row. Lindsey interacted with my boyfriend as well as me, he and I both strummed LB's guitar and I grasped his hand; LB also exchanged a sentence or two with me and chuckled at my reply. It felt like Lindsey was playing dreamcatcher too. I put out a lot of love and energy and he was welcoming especially when I was clearly overcome and adoringly gazing. It's just the role they take, Stevie said it best in her dreamcatcher speech.

I've been to quite a few shows this tour (both early on, and more recently), and that's been my experience as well
The security guy was really nice, and just made it clear that we should all (in the first 2 or 3 rows, whatever it was) feel free to come on up. It was actually appreciated, as it overrode the venue security when they weren't being so generous. I'm just an average middle-aged type, myself, and the security was as nice to me as they were to the hot, young girls. I never was asked to move over, or give up my spot. I realize it might be somewhat different with GA, but even so, it just wasn't an issu
He definitely feeds off the audience, no matter their age, gender, or physical appearance. He just never comes across as being concerned with stuff like that.
Well, I went to two shows and saw the same security guy (short, bald, goatee, yet very buff) escort groups of young chicks up in front of Lindseys mic right after the lights go out and the show is about to start. In fact, the second show I went to I actually saw that security guy scoping out chicks before the show - I ALMOST said something to him about it but Kim and I were busy enjoying our engagement and calling relatives.
I don't see anything wrong with it. I mean, good for them that get picked. I just think it's kinda funny though.

when i watch Lindsey's Soundstage, sometimes i do wish they handpicked some people and put them in the front - either because of looks, or reactions / dancing.
however, i do LOVE seeing our own WelshWitchPMD all over that Soundstage (plus she is hot, anyway!).
LOL. Well thank you! For LB's Soundstage we lined up at 7:30am.
I do know that when we got in there were quite a few "reserved" seats. The people I was with argued with the woman in charge and she let us sit in the front row.
As for certain types of people being let up to the front before the fans is wrong. However, I do believe it is the slimey security man who is doing it to try to get phone numbers or whatever and not the band.
I do believe the band wants people upfront. In 2009 there was a nice man named Dean who was telling fans to go up to the stage before the show started. That is a better way to do it.

We got asked by a African-American guy with a red cap at the entrance of the venue whether we spoke English. So he was gathering them up at the gates already. We thought he was just trying to sell us something so we replied 'no, sorry' and made our way to our seats. Only later, when we spotted him again collecting all the pretty ladies and making them wait at the sound board island, did I realize that that is what he was going to ask us, if we wanted to stand up front. Luckily he spotted us again and escorted us to 'the group'. My sister had to run back and get her coat, so we were late in arriving at the front of the stage. But clearly the band's security guards outrank the venue security, as the latter were being a bitch about us being late and didn't want to let us through, but when the guy with the red cap arrived and told him to let us pass he quickly shut up.
There weren't a lot of girls actually, the Antwerpen crowd were pretty much all middle-aged men and women. I did notice that some girls didn't seem to know the band or the music all that much and I asked them why they came to the show. Turned out that one of their friends was a huge fan and they came along to see what all the fuss was about. There were two girls who were clearly on a mission, they were skankily dressed and danced like their life depended on it, trying so very hard to get Lindsey's attention. Which he gave them, so mission accomplished. It creeped me out also, and made me very uncomfortable, the way he interacted with those girls. Of course he threw his sweaty towel at them as well.
If you want my opinion they do it because Lindsey especially likes to interact with the crowd. He feeds off of it, and of course a bunch of pretty ladies are more fun and easy to interact with than a bunch of senior citizens... For example, during Stand Back, as he was mouthing the worlds along, he tried to get everybody up front to sing it with him.

True. Checking out with a quick glance is one thing. I do that from time to time. It's staring regardless of person (age, gender, etc.) that's another. If there's a large age difference, even more so.
and Seinfeld, if we're talking of Fleetwood Mac connections, always brings me to Chris.
If you were in a bar, a restaurant, the grocery store, just passing on a sidewalk, etc, yeah, I agree with you. But, everything changes when there's a stage & a guitar involved. I know from 1st hand experience. BEFORE a show, I could go up & talk to some hot younger woman, who would MAYBE talk to me for a couple of minutes, IF she doesn't give me the brush-off immediately. Put, me on stage playing guitar with my band and that same person would come up to ME on band break and dominate my entire breaktime and pretty much "throw herself" at me. It's the whole "man with a guitar" thing which makes AGE irrelevant (provided both meet the "consenting adult" criteria)

I was at one of the US shows and ended up right next to the stage. I am 37, though, people have different definitions of young. I am not 18 by any means, but have been told I look younger. At one point, Lindsey blew a kiss my way and was engaging with me throughout the show. Let me just say, I have been a huge fan since I was 12 years old, so this was an amazing experience. I think part of the reason he noticed me was because I couldn't take my eyes off of him. I normally catch one show per tour and I was in awe of his talent. I was also singing and dancing the whole night. All and all, it was a great night and amazing show. Not sure why he noticed me, but glad he did. :)

Although I feel like he probably would like to see people having fun, singing the songs and giving him attention...or maybe if you held up a sign that says "real savage like"...something that shows you are a huge Linds fan....anyway congrats on that interaction :) Did you get a sweat towel?

This is so interesting. That guy was at our show as well and guiding people around. At the time, I didn't think much of it, but now - thinking about it - I can totally see he was putting all hotties in the front. I dug my heels in, though, and in the end he gave up and let me stand at the stage. Just couldn't see the fairness in some being allowed, while others weren't. It didn't even occur to me what was going on..
As a guy, if they are doing this, I find it totally discriminating.
This isn't some bar having a Ladies' Night, this is a concert where we've all paid good money to be there..

Funny to read this thread. Last time I saw FM (2009), I was in the 2nd row with my then girlfriend. We were both younger in our early 20's and she is an attractive lady. There were several times that he was playing right for us (her). At one point, he kind of pointed out to us asking if we were together. I gave a thumbs up, and he gave a thumbs up too. It was a pretty funny scene.
At the end of the night he gave us one of his of course unused picks, which I thought was nice.
Great night.

i'm surprised nobody mentioned something about this happening at MGM show on dec 30th. we are talking about a whole brigade marching towards the front of the stage right before lights went down. we looked towards the aisle going to lindsey's mic, and they were standing there, maybe 20 rows of 4-5 girls, somewhere at the level of the 3rd row. it was almost ridiculous to see, like they were getting ready to go to the war or something.

I agree. I have no problem with wanting fresh faces up there, but within reason, and not at others' expense. I have no idea if Lindsey is aware of it, though my guess is that he knows. I doubt he requested it, though. Seems more like SOP for security guys (band's security...not venue's). At MGM there were some stiffs up front, so if a few youngsters weren't brought up, it might not have been as much fun. Again, it's the numbers, and the pushing in front of real fans who paid good money to be up there, that isn't cool.

I'm very riddled about all of this. I can't see any of the band members requesting such things for personally satisfaction. I'm guessing it has something to do with publicity or the band's well being. With all do respect; I think us fans are just really digging too far into this. Or maybe theres been some misunderstanding or misinformation. I'm not a man myself, but I really couldn't see Lindsey going through all of that just to see a few young woman in front of him for 3 hours. Idk, that's just from my point of view. Not to mention, you'd think if this was happening or at least frequently happening, there would be at least one complaint?

bald guy with tattoos? he is with the band. venue security is his job description with the band, in FM live 2013 tourbook. sounds like you were towards the back of that large group that was marched down the middle through Lindsey's aisle.
frankly, i think it's great when fans figure out the way to get upfront, with whatever means they have and are willing to use - whether it's money, boobies, or whatever.
but when tons of young girls are brought upfront in GA venues, like Dublin and Amsterdam, and put in front of the people who were waiting all day, that really irks me. in that case money was not the issue, i think those GA floor tickets were the cheapest.
also, 9 girls to have some young energetic people in front of the stage, especially if they are big fans - why not? but not 50+. that's like the whole length of the stage, several times. it seems to have gotten completely out of control.

If you get there, you can keep your place. I mean, the people in the first rows have a chance to get up there first and then they bring other people up later. They don't make the people who were there first move. But I see your point, because just the fact that they are bringing up people crowds the stage area and leads to pushing, drunken encounters, etc. If they just limited the stage area to the people who had tickets in the front rows that would be fair and great.

see, a really good friend of mine who was at Dublin show said that is what actually happened. he and two girls where among the first to make it inside the venue, after being first in GA line, and took the place at Lindsey's mic. then someone from security came and said they have some VIPs they need to bring there and asked them to move a bit.

if this originates from LB himself, as it is looking more and more, it would paint him as a poor insecure sod in a severe need of both eye candy and ego stroking while on stage, while also wanting energetic audience to feed off of, which all may be human but some of it kinda sad at his career stage . on the other hand everybody on his side of the stage is always very happy with his audience interactions. it is thrilling to have a performer at that level of the arena show interact with the audience and give people personal attention. many of the girls brought up end up being lifelong fans posting in the process on various social media that he's nicest and hottest man that ever walked the earth. ;)
but you can draw your own conclusions.

see, a really good friend of mine who was at Dublin show said that is what actually happened. he and two girls where among the first to make it inside the venue, after being first in GA line, and took the place at Lindsey's mic. then someone from security came and said they have some VIPs they need to bring there and asked them to move a bit.
The only time I thought that was going to happen was in London, when Christine was about to come out. The guard was making people move, but he wasn't replacing them with anyone (of course, it was pretty late into the show by that time anyway). He stood there himself. But I was right at the stage and he didn't move me. He did move people in back of me, so he could be closer to the stage. Not sure why he just came down to the floor to guard Christine though. I don't know why they'd think anyone was going to rush the stage.
But anyway, I was on the other side of the stage from what you guys are talking about.

must be. we all know LB (or his people in charge of that) is a social media and PR wizzard. ;)
even with FM, in Vegas, nobody knew they were in town. banner lights on MGM were mostly showcasing David Copperfield and Cher . my husband was in a casino across the street while i was at FM show and started talking to some people who were shocked to hear that FM is in town and said they loved LB and would definitely be at the show if they knew.
all "now happening in vegas" magazines barely had some miniature add for their show that even i could barely see, when really searching for it, while everybody else had half page displays. guess they didn't wanna pay for those? so yeah, definitely extremely good with PR.

I believe Lindsay himself is responsible for all of this.2 reasons-I feel he is very egotistical and he thinks he is God when he walks onstage and also just to rub his popularity in Stevie's face. This is typical behavior from someone who is as passive-aggrssive as he is IMO.A great guitarist yes.A TRULY nice guy no(IMO).

How can he rub that in her face? She's more popular than he is any way you slice it.

excerpt from Billy Joel's recent interview discussing ticket scalping:
These guys are all road dogs, all veterans, they've been doing it for years and years, they've worked for everybody. There' a good spirit on this tour, and good morale is really important. We never sell front rows, we hold those tickets at just about every concert. For years, the scalpers got the tickets and would scalp the front row for ridiculous amounts of money. Our tickets are cheap, under $100, some in the $80s, the highest is about $150. I'd look down and see rich people sitting there, I call 'em "gold chainers." Sitting there puffing on a cigar, "entertain me, piano man." They don't stand up, make noise, sit there with their bouffant haired girlfriend lookin' like a big shot. I kinda got sick of that, who the hell are these people, where are the real fans? It turns out the real fans were always in the back of the room in the worst seats. We now hold those tickets, and I send my road crew out to the back of the room when the audience comes in and they get people from the worst seats and bring 'em in to the front rows. This way you've got people in the front row that are really happy to be there, real fans. We've tried to figure out how to beat the scalpers for years and years, hold off selling until the last minute, the wristband thing, limiting the amount of tickets people can get. You can't fight that secondary market. There used to be anti-scalping laws and they let them lapse from the books. My theory is there's a lot of tax revenue in those secondary ticket markets, these guys selling tickets for $500 to $1,000 gotta pay tax on it, and a lot more goes to government than there would be based on my ticket prices. So why should they enforce the scalping laws. We don't want to play to big shots, I want to play to younger people, people who can only afford a low ticket price. They make the best audience, they make the most noise, they're the most enthusiastic. It's just hard to get to them any more. I tell the audience every night, "I hope you didn't pay more than face value on that ticket, because we ain't worth more than that, and you ain't gonna get any more than that."

Love it. I almost posted about this sort of thing in the Fan Confessions thread. It's true too, most of the people I've seen up front are the sugar daddy type trying to impress their younger girl (and impress everyone else  [look at how much money I have! Look! It's great what Billy Joel does and had to say, but I don't think it's exactly the same case here. I've personally seen this go down at 2 different shows last tour, and all of the fans that were brought up were young females. Not to say they weren't "real fans", but there definitely seems to be a type and gender they select.

For those of us that are standing right by the stage at most of these shows - and we all know who we are - it would be incorrect to say that we are not enthusiastic and huge fans!
I have been to many shows of other artists where the people in front are not true fans of the artist and I would not want them up there if I was playing - but being that that is not the case here - it is truly annoying when females whose only qualifications seem to be age and appearance are put in front of fans.
Oh, I love Billy Joel. That is awesome that he does that. I've seen him once, good show. That is a shame that FM doesn't do this.

I agree. But I have seen it happen at Vegas shows and it's super annoying. People in the front are high stakes gamblers that are given comped tickets from the casino. Most of them just sit there with their arms crossed.

I saw this happening last night. That same security guard brought up a group of young women from who knows where and plopped them down right in front of Lindsey. They wouldn't allow anyone else up that close, even people in rows 3-10, but I guess that doesn't matter if you're a young and conventionally attractive woman.

With Billy Joel, it's nearly impossible to get to the front unless you're a young attractive female, or the boyfriend of 1. I've seen Billy 4 times, flying over the New York to see him again next month. and you can't get to the stage unless you are in the first few rows, so unless the real fans are all young attractive females, then i'm not sure it works! Still, at least he's honest about it. He states that it "doesn't hurt the show!" Fleetwood Mac has a fairly dynamic front of the stage at least!

I know what you mean , and if I am reading the Billy Joel quote correctly , he is stating that 'his people' HOLD the front seats and then GIVE them to fans they feel deserving. I saw the same sort of thing at a Dave Mathews concert at Jones Beach; one of 'his people' walked up to my daughter, asked her how many people were in her group, and handed her 4 front row tickets, stating ENJOY !
My gripe with FM handling the same sort of situation is that Mick is out selling tickets in rows 1-10... in Philadelphia I managed second row center seats and was told by security that ONLY first row could go to the stage.. and in Hartford third row center, and once again security allowed ONLY first row to the stage.. This policy to me is fine if enforced equally; but when two songs into the show Fleetwood Mac security begin to bring their selected people to the stage I become a bit annoyed.

agree with what you are saying, and it is very possible that FM situation probably has a lot of similarity to what you describe. just my speculation, but looking at some of the venues and seeming security rules on the current tour, i think the problem with FM may be that the whole band is not on the same page, and they don''t agree whether they want people at the stage and that extra energy, or not.

I think you're right. It seems that there are different situations at different venues (which still seems odd - you'd think FM's security would have the same talk with the venue security before each show about how they want to do it.)

Yep, quite a few people on Instagram report being brought up to the front by Mick's assistant. So people who bought a VIP in the third row can't get to the stage but certain types of people can pay for a nosebleed seat and get ushered up to the stage? I don't get it.

At the show on October 25th? Yes I saw that. Makes no difference to me as I had front row. However, I do know of people who had second row VIP who were being told to go back from front row, so now how is that fair?
These are fans who not only paid $$$$$ for their ticket but also traveled very long distances to see the band.
It's just not fair to the people who paid hundreds of dollars for their ticket to be treated poorly either by venue security or the band's.
Well, if I had front row seats, & some young girls stood in front of me in front of Lindsey, I would be mad. :sorry: I mean I'm short anyway & mostly everyone is taller than me. Yep, the 25th. I was in third row and I didn't even bother to go up. Sometimes standing right at the stage stinks. There are monitors that block your view of the whole stage. Now if they started shaking hands with fans, I would rush up just for that, even if I had a monitor in my face the whole night.

That was actually a smart move. There were already a bunch of men around Lindsey's mic that night. I was standing at the stage and was given the ok from Fleetwood Mac's security because I had a legitimate front row seat.
The couple next to me wanted to sit so they gave me a hard time for standing. They raised a ruckus and the guys who were in front of Lindsey started to give me attitude. I gave it right back to them and told them I had front row and was already given the green light to stand there. Then the man next to me pushed me down so I would be in front of Stevie's monitor and said "make room for my wife." I pushed right back. He said he paid a ton of money for his tickets and I said well so did we.
I've never encountered such rude people in my life. What is shameful is that it seems to be older people who just want to show how much money they spent on tickets and not enjoy the show.

Yeah, seriously a bunch of crankpots. I had 3rd row, dead center. It might have been the best view I have ever had at a Mac show. What a great time that was. So excited for Providence and Mohegan. Really nervous abot Mohegan. It's always a nightmare to get tickets for that venue. Any suggestions? Brokers? We did stubhub for both Boston shows. I can't NOT be up front. We sat on the loge next to Lindsey last time the mac was in CT and it just isnt the same what so ever.

The entire band could probably see YOU better because you stayed where you were. Yeah, Lindsey does bend down a lot and converse with the people that are right down by his feet on the far right, and if that's important to you, then try to get to the stage. Otherwise, staying back in the 2nd-5th rows gives you a better view of the band and they have a better view of you. (That's what I prefer)

from what i heard it's been a problem at some of the GA standing floor shows too, especially 2nd Amsterdam last year. when people who stood in line outside all day came in the venue, there were already a number of girls at the stage; someone who was actually there can correct me. i think in Dublin people who stood in line and came in first were being asked to move a bit and let "VIPs" in front of them.
i don't have a problem with energetic and highly appreciative people being brought up to the stage after first few rows were let up, but i see a huge problem with it if it happens in large numbers at GA shows. 2nd Amsterdam there were apparently several rows of peeps upfront being brought up, in front of people who have been waiting outside in the cold all day. that's wrong, and i hope it doesn't happen again.

Slightly irrelevant but the girls in the top picture you previously posted, Nicole, were with this woman. One of the girls ended up puking and having to sit down (it happened right next to me) and it was clear the older woman was with the younger two. Not that that really means anything, I just thought it was interesting.
It seems this tour they're not letting people from the second row and behind come up front. Just the front row and the people who get brought up front. Front row people hopefully stand up and mark their territory before the rest of us get shoved in behind them. I do feel bad for those that pay good money for those seats, though. I don't necessarily think it's a terrible thing though, because the people up in the first few rows, from what I've noticed, rarely dance/interact/get into the show. They're there as spectators. Whereas the people up in the pit area is a generally younger crowd (I definitely do see some older people in there though) and it gives the band more to feed off of. Lindsey interacts (flirts) so much with the girls at his feet. I would think seeing a bunch of screaming, dancing fans at their feet would pump them up for the show. I'm not saying that makes it right, but it's just a different perspective.

Slightly irrelevant but the girls in the top picture you previously posted, Nicole, were with this woman. One of the girls ended up puking and having to sit down (it happened right next to me) and it was clear the older woman was with the younger two. Not that that really means anything, I just thought it was interesting.

It's ridiculous people should have to "mark their territory". They're basically throwing their "old fans", who have supported them for 35 years, under the bus.

At a show last week, two crew guys randomly stopped in front of me to discuss the "hot girls" they were scanning for and I overheard them pointing and talking about one they both liked and I quote, "that had such a cute face...let's go get her". :roll eyes:
Two old dudes cruising it hard seemed far too into it. Definitely a game they enjoy.

We were front row for 2 out of 3 shows @ The Forum. 1st night we were on Christines side and it was a blast! Very chill and mellow. 2nd night was Lindseys side. And all I have to say is oh my god please shut those GIRLS (not women) up! The whole night they were screaming in my ear and jumping around like they had ants in their pants. Trust me I can appreciate an enthusiastic fan but come on...we paid to be up here and to have our space to dance and be able to hear the music....not screaming. My dad and I call it "the bimbo squad." As to why Lindsey feels he needs attention from girls who look like they could be going out with his son is beyond me.
I actually talked to the guys that bring the girls up. They are very nice. I didn't have the guts to ask why though lol. And also I'm 28 years old...too old to get asked to go to the front anyways hahaha! :P
If you are front row on Lindseys side...as soon as you hear the crickets you better claim your spot on the stage. They bring the girls up as soon as the lights go down....one group down the center and the other on the right hand side of the stage.
Anyways just my observations and thoughts....Don't agree with it since it has been so difficult for all of us to obtain tickets on this tour.

I'm no prude but I think it's gross. I understand wanting to have enthusiastic fans in front of you but why do they have to be hot young girls? How would LB like his daughter being picked out of a crowd to be flirted with by someone old enough to be her grandfather? How does Stevie let him get away with this?

This happened at the San Diego show, too. I had a second row center seat and we weren't allowed to go to the stage but they brought lots of people down from all over the arena to fill the empty front row seats (I know a few people from here benefited from that). I bought my ticket the minute they went on sale, waited almost six months for the only show I'm able to see, and then we weren't allowed to move up to the stage when people who bought $200+ tickets at the last minute and had seats way in the back were allowed in front of us. Then these awful screaming bimbos were obnoxious--even for the people standing in front of the stage. To top it off, the drunk people around me spilled beer all over the floor so had to stand in that (gross-I hate beer; why couldn't it have at least been wine?) and then some moron spilled beer all over my coat (Would have been too much to expect a warning or apology before I sat in it). This was the worst experience I've ever had at a Fleetwood Mac show--after almost 40 year. I'm done.

Next thing I know not only did she grab it but she started pulling it towards her. I'm going WTF are you doing while trying to alert someone.
I am sure the idiot is all like hey Stevie and Lindsey talked to ME!

Maybe she thought getting to meet Mick or Lindsey was an added bonus.

At the 2013 Ottawa show I had front row Lindsey's Side and we were told that if we went to the stage we were forfeiting our seats and that people could move up and sit in our seats. I don't recall any women or anyone for that matter being ushered into front of the stage area.
This year I had 3rd row on Christine's side and all I was told by security is that only 1st two rows could go to the stage. I never saw anyone escorted up to the stage.
My gripe aside from the whole "Letting hot girls go up front" is that if there is ample room why can't people in say Rows 3-5 go up front near the stage. This year in Ottawa there was more then enough room to accommodate others so why couldn't we go up? It feels like unless you are willing to buy vip prices then you are not considered a real fan so you get treated as a lesser fan.

Last night in Providence, the situation was out of control. There were at least 20 girls let up. Only the front row was let up and right before the show about 6 girls were initially let up. When I looked a few minutes later that whole area was inundated with the girls.
Now, I'm not against people having a good time but this is slap in the face to fans who paid good money for their seats.
What was even worse was Lindsey's behavior. I swear he turned around and was shaking his butt at one point.
I still had a good time but some of these girls acted so obnoxious. Not all of them, however. Lindsey needs a slap or better a kick in the butt. He might enjoy it so maybe that's not such a great idea.

I am a die-hard Stevie fan but have been sitting in Lindsey's section for the last few years because I love how interactive he is with the crowd. It's now become so overly-crowded with these girls, that it's taking away from the experience. I think I may be slowly making my way back to the center for future shows.

Exactly Michele. I know die hard fans who paid good money for VIP and weren't let up to the front. It's disgusting and a slap in the face to all of us who work very hard for tickets.
If Lindsey is that insecure maybe he needs to reevaluate his life and make some changes. Sorry but I think his Big Love speeches are a bunch of BS

I was at the DC show last night - awesome rock and better than the first DC show - and I could see everyone in front of the stage from where I was standing. It sure did look like a lot of young woman right in front of Lindsey. However, it seems like Lindsey played to the center of the stage a lot more. He was incredible and, once again, received an amazing applause from the crowd when he finished "I'm So Afraid." Now that was rock and roll - my favorite from the concert.
Big thanks to the great DC crowd - I also like how the band said a couple of times they were glad to be back in Washington and seemed very appreciative of the support. Going out to watch some college basketball and will proudly be wearing my newly purchased FM World Tour Varsity Jacket. I can't wait to see my favorite band again!!

To be fair, I was asked to move up to the front at their Grand Rapids show. I didn't seek anyone out, security came up to me. I find it a little insulting that some people believe that because we're 'hot, young blondes' that we don't have a deep love for Fleetwood Mac. I've seen them twice before with my mom and we had nosebleeds but had the time of our lives. I went by myself this last time and spent $200 on a floor seat and had a stroke of luck that night. I bought tickets to 2 more of their shows that are still coming up. Please don't assume that because of our appearance, we can't appreciate the band's history, chemistry, etc. I may be only 23 but my love for FM runs down to my bones and I would only hope that maybe those of you might be happy for such strong fans to have an experience like that. I know I am, even for other girls. :)
But what if you were a 23 year old man who had a deep love for Fleetwood Mac too? If they too were able to have the experience it would be fair game. But they are not and that is one of the reasons people are upset.

From what I've heard and seen its before the show starts so they are at the front for the entire show but its only on Lindsey's side. If you're in front of Stevie or Christine nobody gets moved up front and only front row is allowed to go up. Its totally different from 2009 and 2013 where they let up the first 3-5 rows in all the front sections.

My friend went to Buffalo on Saturday and said a steady stream of young girls were being let up. She said it was both Ian and Justin who were bringing them up. She had 3rd row and didn't manage to get up until later in the show.
She also said that the girls were being placed all the way down the stage not just near Lindsey.
Not sure why the policy about getting up front has changed but 2009 was the best. The band had the nicest staff working for them.

Wow. Unacceptable. I didnt want to chime in earlier until i got all the facts. I agree with Patti, it is completely unacceptable and out of control. Fleetwood Mac is very lucky the fans in the front row in each city havent gotten together and filed a class action lawsuit. Someone said in a earlier post they were told if they were not sitting in their seat they forfeited their seat. Legally, when you purchase a ticket that seat belongs to you for the entirety of the show. You can get up and get a drink, go to the bathroom, etc and be able to come back to your seat. Also, when you purchase a front row ticket you have an expectation of an unobstructed view. This is where (from a legal standpoint) fleetwood mac could lose a lawsuit.
If they brought the girls up with only one song left, i would be more flexible and say well the same thing happens at a stevie nicks show with the edge walk....but it is completely unacceptable to do it with more than one or two songs left. They need to be careful allowing this to happen, because if the fans get together they will sue the mac for damages. Its not like the can say they didnt know their staff was doing this. One time, yes. City after city, no.

Wow thats crazy! At the Pittsburgh show only the first row was let up on Stevie & Christine's side it was insane. My friend and I were 3rd row and they were sending people back the entire time. The security guard stood there until the last note of the last song was played but meanwhile on Lindsey's side it was a free for all.
2013 was so much better they let the first 3 rows up front. I thought it was odd that half the people on Stevie's side where my hubby and I were never went up so I had a good 15 feet of space all by myself. In 2009 I had front row so was already at the front but they let the first 5 rows up and it was packed but everybody was very respectful and didnt try to get in front of me or anything.

They do let the front row up first but not the second or third and this includes Mick's VIP ticket holders. They are all held back while at least 20 or more young girls are let up to the front escorted by Ian and ironically Justin who does the Mick VIP meet and greets.

I find the security people standing in the aisle more disruptive than anything. If you're close the the aisle, you have to deal with a continuous line of people trying to come up for a picture and the security guy screaming in their ear to go back to their seats. For almost three hours straight, it's a continual confrontation between people and security sending them back to their seats. At least, that's what it was in Columbus. The line was backed up the entire length of the front section, one by one they all came up and took a picture and security told them to go back to their seats.

And that's why I pretty much part of the reason I hate seating gigs unless you've got a damn good seat, gives security an excuse to be complete a-hole's to put it politely.

Yeah I think you just have to ask. One of the girls brought up with me brought her boyfriend up too. They didn't ask him to come up or offer, but they were ok with it once she asked. And another time I was brought up, they let us bring up my friend's 40 something year old mom with us as well.
I really don't think it's a dirty thing or a thing based solely on appearance. I've been brought up at multiple shows now. And I'm not "hot or blonde".
They just want young people to make it more exciting and fun up there. And there's a point there. I think of shows I've been to at casinos where everybody at the front was 50+ and had comp seats. No matter how big the act is, it kind of feels like you're just sitting at a piano bar if there's nobody standing up, singing along, screaming, clapping, dancing, etc. It's an entirely different experience when there is a lot of excitement at the stage. So I definitely get why they bring young people up, and I'm glad that to make it somewhat fair, they don't bring any of us up until everybody in the front made it up and got their spot at the stage first. However I also think it would be a lot more ethical if they allowed more than just the first row up there. Like maybe 1-3, or 1-5.

When I went for the one and only concert I can afford for this tour, it was very upsetting that those of us who paid the high prices for VIP seats were not only told that we weren't allowed to go up to the front but then all these people were brought up from way in the back. At least some of the Ledgies benefitted from it but it was so disheartening after loving Fleetwood Mac almost my entire life that we were treated so horribly by the band's management (it was FM's management who has made the decision to restrict access to only the front row--and then they went around the arena looking for all of the young girls and others who are the "right" people to be up there).
I am very enthusiastic and it felt completely discriminatory to be in the second row--my first and only time after going to see this band for 40 years--and to be told that we were not allowed up there when all these other people who paid a fraction of what we did were. It sucked and I'm still upset about it. In fairness, they should have at least let the first 3-5 rows of VIP's go up. But since they didn't value us any more than that, I don't know I will ever go to another FM concert.

I have so many mixed feelings about this practice... I'm 24 and slim and decent looking at the very least, there's a good chance I could be one of the lucky ones picked. However, and this isn't totally the bands fault at all and is more a venue issue and just the screwy reality of the world but thought I would bring this up just for an added perspective- I'm disabled. Been a fan most of my life, can't put into words how much this band means to me or describe the medical horrors the band/their music has helped me through. I think I may have posted almost a year ago early early in this thread hoping even I would have a chance but my health only gets worse, I was very sick at the show I went to and things aren't shaping up so hot for the Feb 14th show Im hoping to attend (I'm close to paying a friend to come with me in case, g-d forbid something happens to me) Im diehard enough that if I was picked, well I would freaking go. But I couldn't last. Not to mention I have a backpack of medical equipment so not sure I want some drunk casual fan snagging my IV tubing and if anyone were to slam into me, yikes...
I use a wheelchair though I can stand short periods and walk if I have to and I'm prone to pushing too hard because the world as a whole is just not particularly (often not at all really) accessible. G-d I would kill to be near the stage, just an honest to G-d life dream. If I even manage to get an accessible seat well there's neve ver wheelchair seating on the floor, in 2013 people who paid more than me for their accessible seats were way further away than I was in the cheaper accessible seats. Venues are required to have at least a few accessible seats in all price ranges but that never includes the floor and I went in 2014 without my chair because there was no accessible seats left and oh boy I had to be physically lifted up the steps... And was on time but ended up late because they ensue does wheelchair transport to seats but the idiot who wheeled me took some crazy long roundabout way and it's a shame there were so many people crowded up by Lindsey because it took even longer to get to our seats because I had be wheeled all the way around the whole floor section and argh, it was a mess.
Again, I realize that's venue issues not the band. But hey if people want to be upset virtually every single one of you has access to better seats and more of a chance of getting up front than me. Wish I could surround myself with true fans and we could all go to the front and when I got tired I'd go sit and I assume if everyone around me was there for the music and not just the booze or whatever, maybe it would work out.
If I ever win the lottery I'm hiring my own Ledgie posse to make this happen. We'll pay off security so we all get up front too, deal?

Thank you TimeCastASpell for the thoughtful post.
You write, "But hey if people want to be upset virtually every single one of you has access to better seats and more of a chance of getting up front than me."
This is an important point and a reminder of how necessary it is to create accessible spaces.
I still find myself thinking that whether one is disabled or older or by some standard unattractive, there is a huge problem in discriminating against some people. To be in the second row and denied access is offensive.
There are some people who may prefer not to go up to the stage. But others, regardless of age, looks, etc, may find this to be a dream come true. Some of the women who were brought up to the stage in Buffalo were clearly not interested in the band. To those second row folks who wanted to go up, I'm sorry.
For me, the biggest issue is that the band denied those who purchased seats up front from going up. I remember when I arrived at my seat at 8:10, security was already blocking the entrance to the row so that people could not get out.
I hope someone from the band reads these posts. This is not the type of behavior that I would expect from Fleetwood Mac.

What do you mean they were blocking so "people could not get out". Are you saying they wouldnt let you leave the row even to go to the bathroom? If so, that is outrageous!
Your last statement "this is not the type of behavior..." Reminds me of stevie saying, " we are not nice, we are rock and rollers"....keep in mind, they have never gone out of their way to embrace their fans...unless of course money or publicity was involved. Classic Mac.

No, I'm sure bathroom breaks were allowed for second row guests, just no access to the stage. Somewhat outrageous even with bathroom access!
When did Stevie say that? This is an interesting quote. Yet this situation seems to go beyond being nice.

I agree. The whole situation is out of control. If it is so important to them to have people standing up front dancing, they should just have a general admission, standing pit for the first ten rows. Charge $400 for the opportunity to be in the pit. Problem solved.
The issue i have is if i paid for a front row ticket, it does matter if i am at the opera, a play or if i have a seat for a hockey game first row on the glass, i have an expectation of an unobstructed view. In those situations if someone started bringing people into my row, it would not be tolerated. If it was a hockey game i would throw by beer on anyone attempting to stand in front of me against the glass.
It seems to me that the fans are tolerating this during the fleetwood mac shows, otherwise it would have negative publicity. I guess a fight will have to break out in order for the band to stop this. Negative publicity gets results....so does the aforementioned class action lawsuit.
The band is laughing all the way to the bank.

Guess what? There were several Ledgies who went to some GA shows in Europe and the same thing happened. I believe it was mentioned earlier in this thread.
It's been an ongoing situation since 2013. I know that some of the girls let up are are actually big fans, that's not the issue.
The band isn't going to care because they already have their money. From what I've heard it's at Lindsey's request. I'm tired of seeing fans spend tons of money on this band to be treated disrespectfully. It's not fair but I'm sure nobody cares.

I agree that the band doesnt care, and i applaud you for standing up and speaking out. Patti, i have known you a very long time and to hear you outraged about this outrages me too. I know that you are geniune and care about this band and i also know that you spent a lot of time and a lot of money sitting up front back in the day. Ahhh the come days!! But back in those days we knew if we paid top dollar we got to be the person up front. Not standing there with people who paid half of what we paid .... what they are doing now sucks... fair is fair. This is just wrong. Shame on the entire band for allowing this.
It takes a lifetime to build a good reputation and 5 minutes of bad press to destroy it. They need to stop this practice before it slaps them in the face.

I agree 100% with those who feel this is discriminatory. I am a 51 year old woman and huge FM fan for the past 35+ years. I have paid for the front row tickets/meet and greet with Mick during the last tour. I like to think I'm ok looking for a woman in her 50's as I modeled in my late teens and early 20's, but was I pissed when this pack of 20 nothings came running up at the start of the show and stood in front of my husband and I. Wait, I was more than pissed, I was LIVID. I assumed that paying for front row tickets, meant that I would have FRONT ROW SEATS. So, we gently pushed our way through them, and I parked myself in front of Lindsey with my hands on the stage and didn't move. I'm almost 5'10" so I could see really well, but if I had been shorter, that would have been terrible. I ended up partying with these girls, but God forbid any of them tried to take my spot- When one of them tried to take the set list, I calmly told her there were still 2 encores (how many concerts had she been to??), then my husband took the set list after the last encore. They were nice about it and asked if they could take a picture of it, which they did, and then I took one of all of them in front of the stage for them. So Lindsey was stuck with me parked in front of him for the show- I'd never really thought about that, I wonder if he was pissed?

I finally saw this at the buffalo show on Saturday and while I think it's overall wrong, I don't know if it's necessarily about having hot young girls at the front of the stage as much as young energetic fans at the foot of the stage. Who happens to be the type of fan that will dance and scream and take the energy level up a notch, young f ing girls! Not any other demographic delivers consistently with what Lindsey and I'm sure to a lesser extent the rest of the band wants. I guarantee you that if a 21 year old girl was with her mom or let's say her 300 pound friend (not mocking large people just giving an example) they would not be excluded from this treatment.

First of all, I can’t believe you have the audacity to compare FM VIP ticket buyers to casino comp ticket holders who get their tickets for free. People who have spent $900 to be in those seats are die-hard fans and deserve to be at that stage. If anyone is going to be let up, it should be them PERIOD, not random girls chosen because of their looks and age. And just for the record, VIP buyers know how to have fun, dance, and clap just as much as you do. I’m glad you get to experience the joy and absolute bliss of being at Lindsey’s feet during these shows, but it’s sad that his midlife crisis is happening at the expense of some of his most loyal fans.
And yes, this is a lawsuit waiting to happen. I witnessed it personally at the Dallas show, rows 2 and back were stopped by guards .. And his gaggle of girls at the stage weren’t even paying attention to the band most of the time. They were taking selfies , leaving to get drinks and talking over the band. Sorry but how can you justify that?

Just wondering - how does Stevie react to all this BS?Does she give them/Lindsey dirty looks or is she just oblivious to the whole thing? Also, does she interact with the front row people and if so,what does she do?

I think Stevie is oblivious. She rarely interacts with anybody in the front row but at the Pittsburgh show she did sign what I think was the Buckingham Nicks record. Everybody was shocked because she never does that!
I think FM just needs to have a general admission pit section at the front of the stage that way it will at least be fair. The shows I have been to that have GA at the front, require wristbands so its very easy to tell who belongs there and who doesn't.
I agree with the others who said 2009 was a better time. They let anyone and everyone up, regardless of age or gender.
It seems pretty clear to me that they aren't just bringing up young, enthusiastic fans. They're specifically bringing up conventionally attractive young women. I'm young, enthusiastic, and at the concert I went to, there were other under-30 fans who clearly would've liked to go up to the stage, but we were all stopped by security. The only people who were allowed to the stage were those with front row seats and tall, thin girls in tight dresses who were corralled in front of Lindsey.
So I can't really buy the excuse that security wants enthusiastic people at the stage, unless they're dressed up and attractive and placed in front of Lindsey. If they wanted fun people in the front, they could try expanding their criteria.

I've been a huge Stevie fan since 1984 (and the Mac, more or less). But I've never seen them in concert. I bought a 1987 ticket, but it turned out being in another city the night before my SAT, so I couldn't go.
I saw Stevie in Atlanta in 2001, and it was pretty good. But not amazeballs enough for me to shell out big bucks for a great seat at a Fleetwood Mac show.
I had a chance through an AmEx offer to get great seats on this tour, but it just seemed like too much moolah. And then I remembered the distastefulness of the young "hotties" getting trotted out in front of Lindsey, and I thought "Nah" just before pushing the Ticketmaster trigger.
But then again, I'm not huge on crowds. But if you're too far away, it's almost pointless being there. I remember paying $150 to see Madonna on tour in 2001 and having to watch her through binoculars.
I guess I'll never see the Mac live. But who knows.

Reading the last few day's comments about this situation compels me to also chime in... I have to date been to 7 of the shows for this tour, all tickets purchased were Mick Fleetwood VIP or platinum seating , and all 4th row center or closer... I dont even want to know what I have spent as sometimes there was just myself and my wife, other times we had guests as well... first show was Madison Square Garden first night, we had 4th row, and security were only allowing rows 1-3 which seemed fair and was something I could live with . Second night we had 2nd row, and were allowed to go to the stage.. ditto Prudential Center several days later... We get to Philadelphia and all of a sudden it is first row only to the stage, which was fine for me as I had first row, but my guests in the 2nd row were told to remain in their seats, only to have their view blocked by the 'invited guests'. hand picked by Ian ..ditto Hartford, same deal, and Atlantic City again same deal
What may be my last FM concert was Nassau Coliseium, where we had first row dead center... we were allowed to go to the stage, unfortunately during the middle of the concert nature called.. upon my return to my fully paid for seat i discovered that it was totally impossible to even get back to my seat, much less the spot at the stage i was standing at ...enough is enough and Ian and his henchmen should be protecting the interests of the fans paying good money for their tickets

I've been to just as many shows and paid the price to do the VIP or PLAT for the stage experience making sure was in the first 3-4 rows. The first 4 used to be allowed up. Then it was 3. Very few younger people were farmed up but there were some but not enough where it bothered me. Now it does because my $750 or more seat no longer can get me to the stage. The attractive people can go though. I dreamed all my life to be at the stage and a a long-term fan would expect the first 3 rows could still go up not be nudged out by kids not even born yet during the days we loved them. Lindsey has changed on stage. He used to listen politely and some times chime in during Stevie's stories. Now he is rude to her and actually will talk to the girls at this feet or even sit on a speaker to get closer flirting. One young girl who left her mother to be taken up front, said she felt so bad that her mom was now alone watching the show but she wasn't going to say no, she was a huge fan but she said she became very turned off when Lindsey who was old enough to be their grandfather was making eyes at all of them and flirting. She got into the music though and had a great time but was not impressed. Very sweet girl. So now it's just changed the way I feel about going to these shows, paying all the money to be at the stage. Not that they need me, but I'm done with it. My 3rd row seat at the next one will just have me ticked off that all of these girls just go in front. One time before I knew that they had changed the rules this tour, I headed up during the cricket time and was told by Ian to go back to my seat as we were NOT INVITED as a parade of blondes were put in our place. That did it for me. It makes me sick. It didn't matter that we were a VIP and he said as much, that did not ENTITLE you to a spot at the stage. Really torked me to no end. He could have just let us stay there, we got there as the lights went down but were scanned over and told to go to our seat to make room for the bimbos. Like you said, they drink, move all around, take selfies, talk, talk, talk and are a total distraction. I understand that there are groups that do this and escort people to better seats and save actual seats but the way Fleetwood Mac is doing this is disgusting. I am VERY disappointed in this behavior and this new way of doing things. Lindsey is having fun though. Stevie doesn't interact. She's up there doing a great job and I do believe she is out there seeing all the smiles and waves, she's just not having the young men farmed up there in front of her and making an A$$ out of herself. She's giving her all and enjoying the feedback. Lindsey is doing a great job too but it's changed the way I feel with all this nonsense going on.

I don't think they should be bringing people up out of the crowd. However, I think Lindsey interacting with the people on his side of the stage at this part of the show has has less to do with his desire to flirt than with general restlessness during the Gypsy intro, which is by no means as entertaining as the Without You intro and far more self-indulgent. John and Christine talk to each other during this speech. For Without You, Lindsey might be distracted as it wore on for 9 minutes, but Stevie eventually called on him to participate. No one has any reason to stay on their toes for the Gypsy speech. He bends down by the foot speaker and mouths words to the people near him, so it's not exactly a ruckus. I don't think it is impacting Stevie at all.
