I think it's just digital, at least that's what they have alluded to.

I hope there is a "hard copy" available. I'm way behind on the technology stuff. Don't own any of the new gadgets. Just want to put some new Mac in my CD player, too much to ask for I guess.
Lately there has been a few artist putting out stuff on Itunes that I'd really like. Fortunetly the stuff usually finds it's way onto youtube so I can have a listen.

Just read that it was going to be 3 songs so Miss Fantasy, Sad Angel and Without You. I think it was on Ultimate Classic Rock. They also said that Mick separated from Lynn. He wants joint custody.

Lindsey said on Monday night the EP would be available "online" so that probably means digitally.

I think they're making a BIG mistake if they just do digital...I don't download, so I will be passing. I think there are a lot of others who may feel the same way.
If they were wise, they would press up a few hundred copies and sell them on their website. If they want a TRUE representation of whether or not the fans really want new music or not, they need to cover all their bases!
SN called it "our mini baby record" in Columbus. i don't think it will be a "record" but i suspect that would mean not just digital. who knows.

well, maybe kids who are not "true fans" but are going to these mac shows alongside their parents will download  ... my teenager loved Sad Angel and said we should dl it when it becomes available. he never even considered any other type of release.
i'm really puzzled by all this aversion to downloading tbh. were you all against CDs when they first came out too?

No. But downloading compressed files is simply loss of quality. And that stinks. 320 kb mp3 is nowhere near cd quality.

For me, it's not an aversion to the technology but I want to have highest quality available. If there were giving me the option to download 24bit/192kHz (higher than CD quality) versions then I would. Since they're giving me the option of downloading an mp3 I'm not interested.

I'm hoping for a CD release of the EP. If nothing else it'll look nice tucked in beside all my other Mac CDs :D

Also, I just don't bother with i-pods or putting music on my computer....I like the sound of a record or CD playing on the stereo, be it at home or in the car. I also love the whole presentation of artwork, lyrics, liner notes, etc.
Let the younger crowd download, but don't forget the older fans who have stuck with the band close to 40 years. Chances are (most of) the kids will move on to someone/something else...we oldsters will continue to stick around!

Hard copy please .No cheap file from ICRAP.I wont buy it.Sorry guys .I'll love to support FM but not with crappy Icrap files or any other crappy digital files.I just wait to it shows up on Youtube .Sorry Stevie.
I will buy it if its a .WAV of Flac but not crappy mp3's.
It probably cost them almost nothing to print it in China so it would no loss if it does not sell good.

iTunes does not sell MP3s. They sell AAC files, which are a proprietary Apple file type. You know those YouTube uploads are usually far worse quality than what you'd get from iTunes. Just saying.
Either way, I'd prefer a physical release as well, but only because I'd want it in my collection. I buy music in many formats, but for some artists I prefer hard copies.

really? i thought apple ones are actually more compressed / worse sounding... considering we are dissecting in details here :p
i can never claim that i can hear subtle differences that someone like Peestie could, for example. i can hear differences between different formats sometimes, but not always... maybe b/c the best sound system i have for listening this stuff is in my car
i don't have a record player (or it's somewhere in the shed), and i have crappy CD player. CDs sound much better in my car. if i want CDs for my car (as opposed to listening through my phone over car speakers), i make them. over computer speakers of course everything will sound horrible, even i can hear that. :p

Oh yes, lower bitrate AAC was better, But 320 mp3 is better than AAC. But still, all shqt.
But I'll buy anything where Lindsey, Mick and John are playing on together, in whatevah format.
It should be a whole farking album, not this cheap three song bone to the fans. Where's the artistic integrity?? It's been what, ten years since the last original album release? And they couldn't have stockpiled 12 songs that would make good FM songs??

I don't think they'll be negatively effected very much by releasing it digital only. Most are willing to download. Personally, I prefer buying a hard copy, but am not opposed to download if I have to. Even though I buy cds I don't actually listen to cds anymore. I rip them to my computer and listen there or on my ipod. I stopped listening to cds a few years ago when my car cd player stopped working.

Same here. I can't stand the thought of a digital-release-only EP. I want a traditional CD with some beautiful artwork.
I don't think that we will get the latter, though. There were just too many things that obviously lead to this conclusion: the new merchandise which is really not pretty, the sloppy annoncement of this EP plus the still unknown release date, the absence of a proper title for the tour...
Sometimes I get the feeling that they just don't care about anything anymore as long as the tickets are sold. :(
Nevertheless I love them more than I can say...
I'm not so sure that there will be a physical release, either. I just hope it. And what about Stevie? She hates the internet, wouldn't she hate the thought of an internet-only release, too? Again, I'm hoping...

I have a great stereo system at home, and there really is no difference unless you put headphones on. Granted, you'll need to raise the volume on a digital file and the bass might need some tinkering, but without the software to show you the loss of high and low spectrum, you'd never be able to tell the difference, without knowing in advance.
Audiophiles can argue all they want over this issue, but you'd never know without the software.
That said, I know some despise digital music (Skip). All I can say is 'sorry'. it *is* the future and someday will be the only choice. You can fight it, and miss out on stuff you might enjoy. Your choice. Personally, I think CDs sound like high-tech sh*t and I prefer vinyl. That doesn't stop me from enjoying my favorite bands, regardless of format.

I'm proud of them for finally embracing the possibilities of technology. Another of my favorites, Ben Folds, has been doing this for years... a few songs on digital EP and then an album later. It's pretty great.
And while I understand the quality issue, especially with older releases, most artists today (and especially their mixing engineers) know that they're mastering for compression... new releases are worlds better than older ones. Digital is the native format, for better or worse...

I listen to both digital files and CDs on a regular basis. There is a clear difference in sound quality, as most of you know. When you compare both formats, CD sound is just "fuller." But it took years to get to that point. When CDs first came out, the sound quality was crap, hence all the subsequent digital remasters. Digital audio technology has evolved, but lossy data compression been such a disservice to sound quality. We're basically going backwards.

Well, I'm not going to discuss this. When you don't hear it, you don't hear it. I can't imagine that. I'm lightyears away from being an audiophile, but I hear big difference. Without headphones.

I agree. I"m all for the instant satisfaction of digital, but I do miss the visual and tactile sense. Hard copies also gave the music context, more like a full story, and something to kinda look at while you first listened to the CD. The artists could say stuff and thank people. You got lyrics, for heaven's sake! Even opening your new album or CD was like a ritual - you couldn't wait to get to the good stuff inside. It's not a huge deal, but I do miss it -

I beg to differ. I don't buy anything from iTunes because I don't like Apple's restrictive policies, but AAC is still better than any MP3 format out there.
Whatever. You want quality, you gotta have a CD.

*No New Album
*No OFFICIAL NAME for the "Tour"
*A stage show and set list that (with the exception of the remarkable "Sisters" and two new songs) has been REHASHED for the past 20 years)
Call me crazy, but I'm a bit UNDERWHELMED by the whole "effort" (or lack thereof). I have WORSHIPPED Fleetwood Mac since 1977. I have bought EVERYTHING they've ever done and attended EVERY TOUR (and ALL solo member tours, including Chris McVie's only solo tour in 1984). But, I'm on the verge of losing interest.
Artists like Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty have made some of the best music of their careers after the age of 50 or 60. NOTE TO FLEETWOOD MAC: You can still saving this sinking vessel. Get Christine McVie to give up gardening and come back ONE MORE TIME. Hire an amazing producer like Rick Rubin, Ethan Johns, Mitchell Fromme or T-Bone Burnett and get back into the studio to make the greatest ART of your life (like you once did with "RUMOURS" and "TUSK, two of the greatest masterpieces in music history). Who gives a crap about TOP 40 hits or record sales? It's not going to happen anyway. Do you think Dylan and Springsteen are sitting around worrying about getting a TOP 40 RADIO HIT in 2013's market? Then, go out on the road with a revamped show (including the new music) and become ARTISTS again. You might even get critical acclaim and win a GRAMMY.......(RESPECT???)
BUT, I guess you're too busy trying to fill corporate rock arenas with the same tired casual fans and the same set list you've been playing for years. I did enjoy "SAY YOU WILL". While not perfect, it was a FINE EFFORT and you at least tried something different. Keep moving in that direction and I'll be the first to jump on board. For the first time in 35 years, I am considering NOT attending a Fleetwood Mac Tour. Why would I shell out 300 dollars plus parking and 15 dollar drinks to see the same show that I've been watching for years just to keep Mick from going broke for the 10th time. It seems to me that you're not really concerned with exploring the artistic future of this band, but rather just biding time to fill your retirement accounts. If not with the band, let Stevie and Lindsey go back to solo projects where THEY DO try to make some new and interesting art (SEEDS WE SOW & IN YOUR DREAMS). case closed

Amazing observation, I'd just like to add Paul Simon to your list of musicians who've remained productive in the dawn of their careers. I think if the band all volunteered to record close to where Christine lives, she might do it. She probably is done touring but I think she might enjoy being around her old bandmates once again.
I've been jokingly referring to this tour as "The 1% Tour" because only the top one percent can afford tix.

Plus downloading hampers the mobility of songs. There are some songs I can't hear in my car because of Digital Rights Management issues. I don't like to "stream" music due to the sound vagaries, especially when you're in a moving vehicle. So, I often will copy digital music to a cd and play the cd in my car, but there are restrictions on my freedom to do that.
It's not about not embracing new technology. It's about not wanting to deal with the inefficiencies and artificial reins that the technology imposes.

Totally agree. Unfortunately, this kind of reasoning falls on deaf ears unless the tour were a flop. And if it were, well, they would just take it as FM is over, and give up. Let's face it, FM for all intents and purposes IS OVER. I'd rather get solo music at this point, anyway.
It's so strange -- I've spent many years listening to music hours a day. I worked for years as a professional music critic. Music is the biggest passion in my life. I also have perfect pitch and can easily pick out the notes in various instrumental lines in a song. Yet, I can't tell the difference between MP3s and a CD. I've even tested myself by having someone play each randomly and having me guess whether it's the CD or an MP3. I don't see how this can be the case when there are audiophiles who can't pick the notes out that are being played, but say they hear a "big difference" between the two formats. I don't doubt them; I just don't understand. And, yes, I'm old enough that I first listened to vinyl, then cassettes, then CDs, then digital.
Ears are weird, I guess.

Agreed. This is why I don't download anything off of iTunes.I usually go to amazon or somewhere else if I want to buy an mp3.I don't like it when DRM goes too far.If I buy a copy of something, I should be able to take it with me on whatever piece of technology or transferable medium I want.Of course I understand that it stops piracy...even though hackers can still rewrite the codes.
Believe it or not, there are alot of people who still don't have a computer. So if they want new FM songs, well, they're screwed. And FM loses money. That is why I think it's a poor choice to have those 3 songs available only on iTunes because it limits accessibility.
I can sometimes hear the difference between CD and mp3 quality.Usually when I burn an mp3 to a disc, I choose the slower burn speed. This keeps the quality of the mp3 intact.Although if I had to choose between mediums, I would pick CD's and vinyl. Cassettes would always wear out too quickly and 8 tracks were horrible!
No name for the tour? Not good, man.Not good.
I've never been to their shows (sad, I know) but from what I'm seeing in vids and reading, it seems they're phoning it in these days?
True, alot of fans like the classics(myself included), but there are so many other good songs from their albums that they can put in the setlists.

I wouldn't say a lot of people. And I doubt they would lose money from those people because it would cost them money to manufacture a cd. I'd say the loss of sales due to people who won't use itunes or amazon or whatever else is minimal. Plus, I bet EPs aren't very strong sellers on cd. Just like cd singles aren't which, at 3 songs, is essentially what this is. And I would like to have a cd myself, but not in any way because I think it's more beneficial to them to do so. Just for personal reasons.

Congratulations on that. You are among a rare breed, and I envy you for that. No irony here, believe me.
However, perfect pitch and the ability to discern CD sound from MP3s are really unrelated qualities. I know for most people it doesn't make a difference, but it does for some. I can honestly walk into a retail store, hear a song and know immediately it's being piped in through an iPod or some such device. I can hear clipping on certain notes and I hear compression that, especially with songs that I am familiar with, changes the sound.
There is a difference. I actually used to laugh at people who were so insistent on the difference between vinyl and digital, and I'll be damned if I can't hear it now. It's, I suppose, a function of three and a half decades of listening to a lot of music.
But that's wht I'm saying: I've been listening to music for 30 years, many hours a day. And I listen closely, not as background music. Yet I can take a song I've heard 200 times on CD - say, "Never Going Back Again" - and play it as MP3, and I can't tell the difference. I'd just like to understand why. Is it just that we're all different in the way our ears work? Or is it a function of the fact that I've never had high-end audio equipment? I actually envy the people who can hear the difference; it makes me feel like I'm missing out on something!

Right, Sad Angel now has over 30,000 hits on Youtube. Rolling Stone have announced the band are planning to drop a new EP, Perez Hilton has linked people to the Sad Angel vid. It's about time they drop a date for this EP release or else all the hype will have come and gone before anything happens..... This isn't the late 70's guys. The world won't wait. Please hurry up.

It could be the equipment, and I suspect different people hear things differently.
I remember about a year ago a friend I hadn't seen in a long time was telling me about his frustration with MP3s. We were sitting in my living room, running an iPod to a pretty decent Onkyo system, but certainly not what you'd call audiophile quality, and he was playing song after song in which you could hear the compression abuse and the peaking in some parts of the song.
After a while of venting our frustrations, we turned to something we could actually do something about -- quench our thirst with another beer.

iTunes does not sell MP3s.
Yes AAC files are lossless like MP3's .
I got tons of them.
I'm shocked that an older band will do something like digiital download deals especially they dont like the medium .
Its really a disconnect with their older fan that dont have a computer or a player that plays digital files.
Anyway whatever what the new tunes are release on .I hope they will sell good for them.

I dont understand how come they could not sneak the new tunes on the Rumours release.
It would get the tunes without doing a separate release.

Indeed. Even my technology-hating 80 year old Grandmother has a PC and a Facebook account. If there's a Fleetwood Mac fan out there who doesn't use a computer, they likely have no idea the band is even touring right now, so FM has no use for them anyway. :p

Do you remember that mosquito test that everyone was doing a few years ago? Where they played a high-pitched tone to see who could hear it? Most people couldn't hear it. Kids could, but most older adults couldn't. That test had to do with hearing sharpness, but I am sure there other other tests that differentiate tone and sound layers.
We all taste things differently. Yes, we all hear differently too.

And as someone who grew up listening to music on scratchy AM stations, it's not like my ears only appreciate high quality audio. It's just that when I'm PURCHASING music, I don't want the sound to be noticeably inferior right out of the box. Forget all those vinyl albums I scratched in my youth. At least they sounded good when I opened the package.

At this stage of the game, what it boils down to is they need to get as many sales as possible to prove that they are still a viable band who ISN'T just phoning it in!
By limiting their avenues and doing one vs. the other ~ instead of EVERY option! ~ they're cutting off their noses to spite their faces!

Yes thats me.Back in the old days when AM was gold with top 40. I always had my am radio play under the pillow on low for my parents cant hear it.
I agree 100 percent about purchasing music with crappy bitrate.

I'm one of the lucky ones that is perfectly satisfied with these formats. I have thousands of songs of these types and have loved what I'm hearing for years. But then again I don't own any fancy schmancy sound systems like I did when I was in my 20's and 30's.

Article that mentions the new songs at the end.
The Mac is back: Fleetwood Mac plays the TD Garden on Thursday and the Comcast Center on June 21. And nobody’s giddier over the band’s return than drummer Mick Fleetwood.
Behind the kit, his happy mania — eyes bulging, sticks and sweat flying — is an asset. But the 65-year-old rock veteran’s enthusiasm didn’t help reassemble rock’s most incestuous band.
“I got a little (ticked) off two years ago that we weren’t working,” Fleetwood said from Los Angeles, where the band had been rehearsing. “I needed to let go and admit that maybe we’d never work again. I’m a Fleetwood Mac nut, this is my whole life since 1967. But I shouldn’t have gotten (ticked) off. I should have realized Stevie* (Nicks) just needed time.”
.Nicks had gone her own way. In 2011, she toured with Rod Stewart. She released her first album in a decade, “In Your Dreams.” Then she toured some more. A solo star, Nicks didn’t need the band she helped make one of the world’s biggest (100 million albums sold and counting).
“I thought, ‘(Expletive), I’ve got to do something,’” Fleetwood said. “So I opened a lovely restaurant in Maui called Fleetwood’s On Front Street, where I’m sort of
the John Cleese character
in ‘Fawlty Towers.’ ”
But once the place was running, he needed something else. He needed rock ’n’ roll.
Without Nicks, Fleetwood gathered singer/guitarist Lindsey Buckingham and bassist John McVie for jam sessions in Hawaii. It was just for fun, just to stay fit behind the kit. But it quickly brought back Fleetwood’s hunger for a reunion.
“We went in the studio and recorded a whole load of stuff, some of the best stuff Lindsey has ever written,” he said. “We knew Stevie was busy, but we wanted to send her a message. These songs were a giant calling card to her.
“Many months later, Stevie spent some time with Lindsey and they started singing together,” Fleetwood said. “These were songs Lindsey had written with her in mind. So, yes, I’m happy to say that we’re going on the road, and we’ll be doing two of these new songs.”
For two decades, every Mac tour and album has felt like a finale — the last tour was in 2009, the last album in 2003. The revelation that the reunion tour will debut new material has been totally unexpected.
“We just made the decision to put a few of these songs on iTunes,” Fleetwood said — the EP is expected to drop any day. “It’s important to us that we’re not just treading water creatively. My dream is to finish these hugely gorgeous songs from Lindsey, get three songs from Stevie, and we’ll have a whole Fleetwood Mac album.”But for now he’ll have to be patient. Just like his fellow fans, he’s learned Fleetwood Mac can’t be rushed.

because they want that album out and she doesn't necessarily want to contribute (or doesn't have?) more songs?
i'm actually happy to hear this is a consideration. if we are waiting for 7-8 songs from Stevie to contribute to FM, there will be no new album.

Well, if they are considering folding "Without You" into this possible record, (which was written by Stevie) she would only need to contribute 4-5 songs to make it a more even FM record. I would be satistfied with 10-12 tracks on a new record. I wouldn't care if Lindsey had 6 tracks to Stevie's 5 tracks. But only three Stevie tracks, I would be very disapointed! That's not enough, and we know she has been writing based upon last falls Q&A's, and also her most recent Q&A's during the "In Your Dreams" movie screening.
Maybe Stevie's been inspired (she is sure acting inspired on stage) and will finish some demos on this 1st leg of the tour. It's possible they could go into Lindsey's studio record & finish up the tracks in a few weeks on their break between the U.S. & UK leg of the tour.
Mick's goading Stevie - he knows full well that she'll never settle for only 4 songs (Without You plus the three extra he mentions) to Lindsey's 8 on an album. He's relying upon her ego to kick in once reality sets in.

Ok, so she has poems/lyrics. I'd bet there would be a lot of fleshing out to do on her "songs" and that will take time that I'm not sure Stevie wants to spend on a Fleetwood Mac album.

i would! i want all 8 lindseysongs (starting to sound like Gerald here ), especially if they are as much fun as Sad Angel. you and i will buy whatever they put out 8:3, 6:6, whatever it is, but the new generations loved Sad Angel and can't wait for it to come out from what i've been hearing... so more songs in that vein should work great for them!
although i do agree with whoever said Mick is goading Stevie, and more power to him!
they have 2 months in between, and with the breakneck speed Lindsey has been working lately (and if Froom is available!) they can certainly finish the album if SN comes in with at least somewhat fleshed out songs. somehow i don't see that happening, but i will give it the benefit of the doubt (the same as i did for the changed setlist, and we know that didn't happen  :p).

ah. good point. i was thinking three in addition to Without You. Which would be fine by me. an album only needs 8 tracks folks ;)
Even if Stevie is feeling possessive of her newly written material, she has a million and one demos dating back to the beginning of time that the band could easily polish up and slap on a new album.
And I agree with the other sentiments here; they don't need 18 tracks when 10-12 will do just fine.

Yeah, and like she said she had to work her butt off without any help from her label. And, that was a solo effort, not under a band with 4 members that need to get paid. It's obvious they are trying to figure out what the best next move is that will actually be profitable and enable them to get songs out as Fleetwood Mac. I don't envy artists these days. I remember when it was so exciting that my favorite artist's new album was coming out. Now, it's barely a blip on a radar. Everything moves so fast, nothing has time to ferment, build anticipation. And, in my opinion, it's also why they may be missing the boat on Sad Angel. You announce it opening night and it's still not available a week later? Epic fail. Those kids that may have been at the show that night for whatever reason - with parents, on a nostalgia kick, heard about FM through Glee or Stevie's Twilight comments - who may have been interested in the new song went home and looked for it on iTunes. They may have been curious enough to search for it the next day. Now, it's a distant memory that equates into lost sales/downloads. Way.to.go.

exactly. stupidest operation/management ever. of course shows are still going on and new kids are hearing it every day so still not too late. but it should be available soon, and there should be some kind of 21st century type of PR bang.

^^ I suspect Mick is referring to the fact that 8 Lindsey songs are already in the can, so they just need three more Stevie songs + "Without You" to make a complete album. Of course, knowing Stevie, she will have Karen raid the vaults/YouTube to come up with the sufficient number of songs to match Lindsey's. That is, IF anything ever happens beyond an EP.

If the things that Stevie said when I saw her last year at the Mill Valley film fesitival hold any weight then it could be that the rest of the band are going to rework a few of her songs and quickly cobble them together with their 8 songs because she feels that at her age she doesn't have time to participate in another Fleetwood Mac album.I'll buy it of course but it is difficult to get exicted about the results of such a process.I also believe that she is hoarding newly written material for another solo album which is great if it happens.

I think so. Mick said it inspired Christine to write -- although he said she was just writing for herself, which is stupid. Then again, Ken said that his book reignited Christine's love of music and this leads me to the conclusion that Christine has gone senile and is now inspired quite easily. Probably watching Louie Anderson dive on Splash has inspired her.
That aside, I honestly think that they are shooting for an album, with Christine's participation for late 2013 or early 2014. But I'm delusional, so don't mind me.

I really think they can't stand to be in the studio long enough together to record a new full album. I remember hearing when recording the Say You Will album Stevie was not happy about it for some reason,I think Say You Will album was and is an amazing album that is up there with Tusk and Rumours and Fleetwood Mac White album. My guess too that the fighting still goes on thru today. It would be great if they can get in there and do another master piece.I am alright with them touring I think they should throw out the same set list except adding a few gems here and there to the set.It would be interesting if they did a survey for each show and the fans pick the 24 song set list for each show so each show might have a different set list or fans send into a song set list poll and use the top 24 songs in there set list.Any song goes on all the Fleetwood Mac even includes Buckingham/Nicks album. That would be a great set list I think.

Probably watching Louie Anderson dive on Splash has inspired her.
That aside, I honestly think that they are shooting for an album, with Christine's participation for late 2013 or early 2014. But I'm delusional, so don't mind me.
Michele
I certainly hope so. One thing that always stuck out to me was that Christine was willing to record, to make albums with Fleetwood Mac back when Say You Will was recorded, but just did not want to tour. Maybe it's finally happening!

If it's that big of a damn deal to Stevie about recording with the band then get Dave to produce 2 or 3 songs and slap Lindsey's vocals and guitars on it. Jesus. It's not that complicated.

I agree. They wouldn't even have to be together in the studio but then there's the risk that Stevie doesn't like the vocals and/or guitar. Look at TITN, she was hardly there and when she would complain that her vocals weren't on Everywhere, Lindsey would say:"Well, you weren't here". She doesn't want to go through that again. I get the feeling she doesn't want to record with Fleetwood Mac at all.

Then why bother to have a Fleetwood Mac? It's never going to happen that way, and we both know it.
FM is finished, as far as I can tell. This tour is the swan song. I seriously doubt Stevie can be talked into doing an album, and that's just as well. I'm cool with the solo projects. Both she and Lindsey seem to do way better on their own anyway. Why force something that isn't meant to be?

Kind of a dismal way to go out .I will always love them though.. if only for the three brilliant albums in the last half of the 1970s.Hopefully Stevie and Linds can use the profits from this jaunt to make a couple more great albums before the final curtain falls.

My dream for the Mac would be to do what The Cure did for their Trilogy dvd.... Play a few shows in the same venue where they play 2 or 3 albums in order, and then throw it out on dvd. Imagine it, The White Album, Rumours and Tusk, with Christine. It will never happen. But I just thought I'd mention it anyway.

Ha! And, you mean to tell me that someone in their clique didn't have the foresight to think maybe they should get all that taken care of say, oh I don't know - before they start the tour???
Just seems like far, far too many cooks in the kitchen... all the band members, all the different managers, all the different advisors and entourage-members all giving a zillion opinions-- it's amazing ANYTHING can get done at all.
I found it interesting that Stevie thanked all the managers who, according to her, were the ones who really, really wanted the tour to happen and apparently went through major negotiations to make it happen. Maybe everyone on here is right-- the managers convinced them this is one last money grab and they should go out with coffers full.
Mick's been saying lately that he doesn't see the Mac being active beyond the next 5-7 years.. and that he was always the one trying to keep the band going on and finally, about 3 years ago, came to terms with the fact that it won't.

It was a former member of the rhythm section who conveyed those sentiments, and I think she was being playful but was also stating what we all know. Sure, Mick and John (especially John) are important to the sound in the studio, but the artistic direction and the thrust of the band is so much Lindsey now, even more than in the past. He's untempered by Christine's caution now, for better or worse. It may as well be BN.

Amen. Fleetwood Mac is Fleetwood Mac when Fleetwood and McVie are there and gave their name to it. Stevie wasn't there, what else is new. One can complain about that, But you can't blame the three guys for that. The fact that there are not longer three songwriters, But two, and one sits out, you can still record Fleetwood Mac albums. I still think there's more to it than all this so called Stevie pouting-heel digging. I mean the woman has said for decades she doesn't believe in breaking up this band, she thinks it makes great business sense to keep that "Big Machine" running, she enjoys the perks, and playing the big arenas with them, and she is very grateful for the success being in Fleetwood Mac brought to her (and Lindsey) and doesn't take that for granted.
Keeping that in mind, being in a band means you play music, you create music, you develop music, you record music, and you sell music.
If Stevie has consistently stood by her commitment to being in Fleetwood Mac (with the exception of The Time era), and it is one of the few things she speaks that consistently about, then it stands to reason she is not stupid enough to think she will never record another Fleetwood Mac album with Lindsey again. Nor would she want to keep that from happening, realistically, even if it means negotiating peace treaties that make everybody happy.
There must be other conversations that are keeping things .... delayed.

I don't think Christine ever cautioned Lindsey that much in the first place. She didn't restrain him. She brought another dimension that had to be incorporated into what he was otherwise doing. It's not like she said, "don't do that." It's more like they also had to find a way to fit what she was doing in. She may have limited his quantity, because there were 3 songwriters, but not so much his content.
During the Dance interview (for Best Buy) Christine said that she, John and Mick form a bed on which Lindsey can roll around and do whatever he wants.
In saying that, I don't think she exactly meant that the rest of the band is subservient to Lindsey. I think that she meant that he set the direction and they all followed, not mindlessly though. Each bringing their own unique talents, strength, and creativity as they marked the path together, but taking independent strides. When Lindsey works alone, he is responsible for the sound of everything. When he works with FM, he knows that even though he can tell Mick and John where he wants the drum and bass, he can't really micro-manage what they're going to do there.
I know it may have looked like Stevie was directing Mick in IYD, but Lindsey has often talked about Mick not being able to do what Lindsey wanted on a particular song or Mick not being able to do the same thing twice, even. Mick does his own thing and that's even more true of John, who probably doesn't try to cooperate with Lindsey half as much as Mick does. So, FM is never going to be just a backing band for Lindsey or anyone else. They're always going to provide a sound that's different from what Lindsey envisioned in his head and, hopefully, better.

From the moment they pulled him in, it was clear that they not only had a guitarist, but also a musical director, arranger, songwriter and producer. A pain in the ass that brought them wealth and fame, not because he was an individualist, But because he could adapt three very distinct songwriterstyles in one sound, the man has listeningskills that are often overlooked. And he has always had the skills to let all individuals shine. Christine always was very cooperative, so he took her feedback serious. Miss Nicks has basicly not participated in the recording/soundbuilding process since 1982.

Re: Fleetwood Mac EP "awaiting artwork approval"
To the person who runs this website: I am the person who posted this info and it is all true. As I said, I was backstage at MSG in the room set up for the dinner catering for the band and crew. Lindsey came in to eat with what seemed like his manager or agent and was sitting at the table next to me, not 5 feet away. And I heard a 20 minute conversation between them. And it appeared that this man has been with Lindsey a few years, but was asking him about his previous managers. You can add this following stuff to your listing:
Lindsey also said the EP would be probably black with a white Fleetwood Mac logo and have a small red EP written on it. Lindsey said that he and Stevie were photographed last fall when she came to his house for 4 days to sing on his songs and record "Without You", and John and Mick were photographed later by the same photographer. The band didn't like the photographer, and thought he wasn't very creative. The photos were then photoshopped together for the T Shirts, which the band also doesn't like, since they look too much like the 2003 T Shirt photos, that were then recycled in 2009. And that they would only do a new photo shoot if they in fact do record a full album. And they also think when the EP is released on ITunes it will appear so small on screen that photos won't look good and a simple black cover will appeal to younger fans. The manager told Lindsey that ITunes told them they are going to promote the EP heavily and that there is also a deal to release it with Starbucks. And that Rolling Stone and other media outlets want the EP ahead of its release so they can promote it.
Lindsey also talked about how Stevie was concerned about the band playing NYC because the New York Times gave them a terrible review in 2009. And he also talked to the manager about her not being sure if she wanted to write new songs and give them to Fleetwood Mac. But that she is warming up to the idea because of two reasons: 1: Her contract with Warner Bros. for her solo records ends after one more album. And she is now not in a hurry to put one out because she will then have to renegotiate a new contract and since "In Your Dreams" didn't sell that well, it would put her at a disadvantage. And she is beginning to think a Fleetwood Mac album may do better. And 2: While she is still publicly promoting the "In Your Dreams" documentary with Dave Sterwat and saying what a great time she had making the record with him, that personally she has become less thrilled with working with him again and is more open to having Lindsey produce a Mac album.
They also talked about the set design on the tour. They may loose the 4 large half oval lighting pieces that hang behind the band for part of the shows. They cost $50,000. a week and are not working well, but they don't want to offend the man who designed the entire stage set. That is still being decided by the band.
He also said that Stevie is singing the best she has in a while and that when they are performing the last song alone on stage together (Say Goodbye), he is really getting emotional since he has changed so much over that last 10 years since he wrote it about her.

agree that oval pieces work nicely with the whole presentation which is really great - when they work!
but they malfunctioned several times at the shows i was at, especially in DC when they didn't lift up or go down on time, ruining some of the presentation, and probably getting the band members slightly worried they may at some point fall down on their heads.
so i can see why they'd be frustrated with all the problems and wanting to get rid of them.

Was this person just a vistor? I can't believe a crew person would ever make public a conversation that happened anywhere backstage, the meal room, anywhere. Especially when it concerns some guy's work + all the crew guys in charge of that probably out of work soon getting cancelled by the client ( the lighting thing - FM )
We all tell our war stories to other crew peeps, but very rarely blab it on a message board somewhere.... It's a sure way not to get hired again

This doesn't seem right to me. She's doing an awful lot for this documentary, even with Fleetwood Mac in full swing. To still be doing Q&As, with Dave no less, would imply she hasn't lost her fondness for the whole thing. And what would the reason be if she has? I might take this with a grain of salt, unless more details emerge.

I found the conversation very interesting, a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes. The NYT review from Unleashed, in particular, was something I knew about and had read prior to the 4-8 show at MSG. It was very critical, calling their act stale and it actually had me worried going in that the show would be disappointing, the band only a shell of their former selves. So reading that Stevie was concerned about their New York show was intriguing and I'm glad the Times was much more favorable this time around, and definitely caught onto the energy exuding from the band in the Garden.
Yeah, the little tidbit on what Stevie might really think about Dave Stewart was rather funny. Not sure if I buy that--maybe that's Lindsey's view of Stevie's album, since the person who had backstage access did say they were overhearing Lindsey's conversation. And we all know Lindsey has expressed a little aggravation in Stevie taking so much time promoting In Your Dreams. I do think she should put it behind her soon and focus on new music, written specifically for the concept of a new Mac album (no double albums please).
The oval lighting pieces have been very effective in terms of staging and lighting for some of the songs, especially for I'm So Afraid. I hope they don't ditch them.
And I thought Say Goodbye was a very good closer. I might have preferred hearing Crystal, but Lindsey's great guitar work in a song that features both singers was a great choice--the version being much stronger than the sped-up track on Say You Will. It's definitely the kind of song you want to leave an audience with as they leave the arena.

I don't know. From a few interviews I've read, and from the Rumours reissue notes, I got the impression if musically he did something she didn't like she'd say so. That is what I was referring to.
She didn't like some of his songs on Tusk. She may have said so, but she didn't try to stop him.
I never got the impression that he did anything musically that she felt the need to rein in. Was she afraid to say no to him? No. Did she ever have cause? I've no reason to think she did. She might have changed what he did on her songs or failed to take his suggestions, but I don't think she was reining him in on his or Stevie's. Instead, I remember interviews where she said that she respected them all so much that she supported them and followed their ideas even when they were WRONG and I think she specifically meant Lindsey there.

agree that oval pieces work nicely with the whole presentation which is really great - when they work!
but they malfunctioned several times at the shows i was at, especially in DC when they didn't lift up or go down on time, ruining some of the presentation, and probably getting the band members slightly worried they may at some point fall down on their heads.
so i can see why they'd be frustrated with all the problems and wanting to get rid of them.
For $50,000 a week, I'd let them go, even though I like the effect.

Quote: While she is still publicly promoting the "In Your Dreams" documentary with Dave Sterwat and saying what a great time she had making the record with him, that personally she has become less thrilled with working with him again and is more open to having Lindsey produce a Mac album.
Where did you get this quote? Because this seems all wrong. There will never be another Fleetwood Mac album. She still has Buckingham/Nicks to wrap and up and she already songs finished with Dave.

Even in 2003 Lindsey was introducing Say Goodbye as an "old" tune that had finally found it's time. Now, he thinks it was written in 2003.

And we all know Lindsey has expressed a little aggravation in Stevie taking so much time promoting In Your Dreams.
Lindsey never said that. He has said that they were under the impression the FM tour was going to be last year, but he actually said she was so proud of the album and "deservedly so" she wanted to extend the promotion. And, long before that became part of this FM press, Stevie pointed out that Lindsey specifically told her she should not worry about running back to FM, that he understood her creative desire to extend her promotion of IYD and he was supportive of that. Mick was the one whining about it.
I find it hard to believe. Lindsey may think that, but I don't think it's true of Stevie. And no matter what happened in recent weeks, I don't think she can ever get the memory of the "best time of my life" recording process out of her head.

"we're gonna be dropping an EP, very soon, probably next week, online, and then maybe later as a physical piece of product"

Oh, no, please no IYD- production. It is so middle of the road slick that it sucks all FM-character out of it. No no no.
I wonder how much of the "slick" production rests upon Dave's shoulders as opposed to Stevie's? I haven't seen the IYD documentary as yet, but someone recently made a reference to Stevie resisting Dave's more experimental ideas in the studio. I expect she is the stumbling block when it comes to innovation, not Dave.

I agree. In fact, Dave made some comment in the IYD Q&A's, I believe it was - about disliking demos. I thought that was so ironic given that seems to be the running issue she has with Lindsey - how she doesn't really want her demos messed with and that is his job. He said once he didn't really like it that fans have heard the demos - he said there's a reason they're demos. So, it would seem as producers Lindsey & Dave are more on the same page.

That sounds right...
I seem to recall hearing her say something like that around the time of Say You Will as well. It's a shame that they can't all find a way to get back into the studio and spend the time necessary to come up with a full-fledged album that actually comes across as though it's a collaboration rather than a mashing together of two solo albums, but I guess it is what it is at this point.
I really hope that this EP, if and when it's actually released, proves to be very successful. I'm assuming, since I've read a few places here that they don't have a record deal with anyone, that they're going the route that Lindsey did with Seeds We Sow, which would be to release it independently. I'd actually like to see them approach a full album this way as a band. If they did all of the work themselves and didn't have much in the way of overhead that they'd have to pay out once the album was released, they could pocket pretty much all of the money themselves, which would seemingly make a more compelling case for doing an album together for those in the band that seem to be on the fence about doing so.

Hello all---
If the report is true, and we can expect "Sad Angel," "Without You," "Miss Fantasy" and one more Lindsey song...I wonder if the mystery tune will end up being one of the ones I posted about in another thread? The following songs are listed at ASCAP's website. As you can see, most of them start with the same ID number [88505****], which means they're presumably newer songs.

The only other songs listed with a work ID starting with 88505 are bonus tracks from the reissues like "Keep Me There," "Strummer" and "Brushes," presumably because they've only recently been registered for publishing purposes.
Getting back to Stevie and her reported reluctance to record with the band, it's been well-documented that she doesn't like Lindsey messing around with her songs, hasn't it?
Some songwriters can hear a full arrangement for a song when they write it---they "hear" all the parts in their head. I suspect Lindsey is like that to a degree. Other songwriters don't hear much beyond the song's basic chords and melody.
And when you write a song---if you have any idea in mind for how you want it to sound---it can be really hard to let go of that original idea and be open to someone else suggesting a different approach.
But sometimes the other person's idea can take the song to a whole new level. I've been on both sides of that situation, so I can relate to feeling like the other person is "wrecking my song" and to the feeling that "I'm just trying to help make your good song GREAT!"
Lindsey wrote songs specifically for the band. I don't understand the downplaying of Mick and John. People saying stuff like it's Buckingham Nicks with a good rhythm section or this comment above. Mick and John are key ingredients that make up Fleetwood Mac. Their presence isn't an afterthought.
None of us has heard the new studio recordings, but based on the last 15 years, I couldn't agree more. I love Lindsey's solo work, but I think he sounds best with Mick and John behind him. On those last few solo records, the songs with Mick and John on them really stand out. They just feel different. Better. A band has a vibe that you can't get with other musicians.

Yes, in the early days they hung out all the time before Rumours and maybe during the Rumours tour. But I think that all changed on the Tusk tour (not sure about that, I wasn't there). I remember an article in the Rolling Stone when the journalist was at the the rehearsals and describes how each member of the band went off to different corners when they weren't playing. And later on Judy Wong said they didn't hang out as friends at all anymore because Stevie had her own entourage.

04-15-2013, 04:55 PM
I find the whole entourage thing sad. I don't think Stevie and Christine stopped interacting all together, but I don't think Christine was quite the diva Stevie is and it must've been kind of disappointing from her perspective to see Stevie lose any sense of real independence and decision-making. I too read the Rolling Stone Tusk article. I hope when Fleetwood Mac finally gets a movie the director depicts how the music business inherently drives a wedge between people, their interactions with each other as they bring together assistants and backup singers and secretaries and managers. Then, before you know it someone like Stevie hasn't done something for herself in 30 years. I know that's what happens when you become a big star, but I find that part of fame rather sad. And it was really nice to see photos of Lindsey just chilling by himself in Washington D.C. at the Lincoln Memorial, something Stevie can't really do.

[Just read this story on Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. I think they may be Stevie and Lindsey in disguise. Anyone ever see the four of them together??]
Jagger, Richards Disagree Over Likelihood of New Stones Album
The two leaders of The Rolling Stones seem to have differing opinions about when the band will start working on the follow-up to its last studio album, 2005’s A Bigger Bang.
In a recent interview with USA Today, Jagger said Stones fans just aren’t interested in hearing new material. "It would be nice to have a new album, but people don't like the new album when you play it onstage," he said. "They glumly look at you. 'OK, it will be over in a minute.' It's not a good excuse, but it's the truth and has to be said."
Guitarist Keith Richards, on the other hand, feels like the band’s upcoming tour would be the ideal time for the band to start banging out some new songs.
"The time to record a band is once they've been on the road a while so they're hot," he said in the same interview. "We'll think about that while we're doing this. The world needs more Stones records. So do I."

I was thinking about this whole subject today while reading and listening to the Toronto comments. It doesn't sound like Stevie has soured on Dave at all.
Of course, the comments to the contrary were so second hand, we've no reason to give them credence. But if Lindsey did say it, it could be his (hopeful) perception. Or Stevie could have suggested that to him, just between the two of them, because maybe she thought he might appreciate a little change up in the, "It was the best experience I've ever had in my entire life," spiel, now and then.
Michele
I tend to concur with Michele. If indeed these overheard comments were true (who can say for certain?), it's more than likely that Stevie might be attempting to placate Lindsey at this point. She may have simply given into the band's demands and decided to embark on an album with them. If this is the case, she knows that a harmonious working environment is ideal so any reassurance directed Lindsey's way would be a sensible move. I'm not suggesting she would be disingenuous - she probably is feeling closer to him these days than she has in many years, which could have altered her perception of what the making of another Mac album would be. Trotters crossed...

No, I wouldn't expect her to say it outright, but I'd expect the tone of her comments about Dave to change slightly or the enthusiasm to lessen. I mean during the SYW tour whether she and Lindsey were getting along or not was pretty transparent. The tone of her comments changed drastically. She didn't need to say that her feelings had changed or that they'd had a fight. You could tell it by what she didn't say and the tone of what she did say.

I seriously doubt that anyone is falling over themselves trying to release a EP from Fleetwood Mac in 2013, especially given the abysmal commercial sales of IYD, SWS and OMS. Plus, without any concrete plans for recording new albums in the future, it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense to go through all of that administrative/legal mishigas just for a few songs... and nothing more.
I suspect that the release of the EP is dragging on because, without big label involvement, there really isn't anyone promoting it or pushing for its release. It's probably sitting around waiting for someone to figure out how to release it. Big bands like Fleetwood Mac don't simply throw things out there without any fanfare.

04-17-2013, 11:32 AM
Fleetwood Mac doesn't need a label or contract. No one does. They're just middlemen who take your money. What did Reprise do to promote In Your Dreams? Nothing, really. They made some promo CDs and posters, which probably did absolutely nothing to increase sales. All those TV appearances? That's not Reprise...that's a good publicist. The members of Fleetwood Mac have enough money to press their own CDs and self-release anything they want.
Case in point: Macklemore. A nobody; an unknown from the Seattle hip-hop scene who skipped the label, and self-released his album with DJ Ryan Lewis. Regardless of what you think of the music, he's been very successful. His album has been certified Gold in the U.S. and his concerts (where the real money is) are selling out. That is self promotion at it's best. 40 year old white guys like me are going to hip-hop shows.
In Your Dreams has sold 500K copies worldwide, but only about 120K in the U.S. I believe Stevie could have achieved that on her own, with no label. The fact is, no one gets rich from album sales anymore - that's not how the industry works. You make the big bucks from touring. The record label is only there to help you *feel* like you've made it, and to screw you, and many artists come out of the deal owing money instead of making money, with no way to release further music and a contract that prevents them from working at all until they settle with their label.
If Fleetwood Mac doesn't have a label contract, good for them. If they were smart, they'd keep it that way and release an album or EP themselves. No record label is going to increase Fleetwood Mac music sales in this day and age. A label will only hinder, take, and use.
If I were a label exec, I'd be very scared of what Macklemore has done. They should all be scared, because if a nobody-ginger-haired-white-rapper can self-release an album and become a superstar, then anyone can. There's nothing stopping an established artist with an established fan base from doing the same thing.

I agree its not worth the effort in releasing 3 tunes in any form of media as said in result of not so good sales of their other outings including Stevie's and Lindsey's current solo outings.
Why bother wasting their time on 3 putting out tunes then just keeping them and add 6 or 7 more to make a complete album.
They could just release them just as teasers on ICRAP and add to a complete album later.
Its like me just putting $5 bucks of gas in my car instead of filling the tank for $50 to $60 and drive to Holmdel or Atlantic City New Jersey to a FM /Stevie concert.I have to stop and get gas every 20 miles and be wasting my time getting gas and end up getting to the show late.

What did Reprise do to promote In Your Dreams? Nothing, really. They made some promo CDs and posters, which probably did absolutely nothing to increase sales. All those TV appearances? That's not Reprise...that's a good publicist.
Labels may be "evil," but they are the ones who handle many of the logistics. Distribution of hard media and digital media. Coordination with print/online/social media. Handling the collection/accounting/distribution of royalties and dealing with publishing and other legal matters. Plotting out the release strategies and attempting to get airplay on mainstream outlets. Did WB/Reprise do a good job? No. But they did get the album out to Rolling Stone for immediate streaming, developed a limited edition for Barnes and Noble, ensured its availability on iTunes, Amazon, etc. Without a label, who else in the Fleetwood Mac organization would do all of this legwork? Sure, they could theoretically create their own label, but why bother when they don't even know if they will ever record/release anything ever again? There are economies of scale involved too. Why would FM hire a team of professionals to do all of this logistical work just for three or four measly songs on an EP that will not sell like hotcakes?
Case in point: Macklemore. A nobody; an unknown from the Seattle hip-hop scene who skipped the label, and self-released his album with DJ Ryan Lewis. Regardless of what you think of the music, he's been very successful. His album has been certified Gold in the U.S. and his concerts (where the real money is) are selling out. Oh please. Macklemore has the advantage of being young, musically on-trend and social media savvy. Nobody in Fleetwood Mac is on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, etc. (and I'm not including those "fake" corporate accounts created for them). I mean, look at that dude who did the "Harlem Shake." It's not even a song. It vaguely resembles "music," but it became a big indie hit just because it was of-the-moment and widely accessible. The consumers of pop culture today are not 40-year-old soccer moms/dads surfing the web looking for new music from a band of 65-year-olds.
In Your Dreams has sold 500K copies worldwide, but only about 120K in the U.S. I believe Stevie could have achieved that on her own, with no label. The fact is, no one gets rich from album sales anymore - that's not how the industry works. You make the big bucks from touring. Well, if a tree falls in the forest... Even today there are probably scores of casual FM fans who don't even know Stevie released a new album two years ago, so it's certainly debateable whether Stevie, without any label support, could have done just as well/poorly. I suspect that WB/Reprise, with their distribution channels and access to mainstream outlets like Target, WalMart and Best Buy, exposed the new album to many, many unsuspecting people.
If Fleetwood Mac doesn't have a label contract, good for them. If they were smart, they'd keep it that way and release an album or EP themselves. No record label is going to increase Fleetwood Mac music sales in this day and age. A label will only hinder, take, and use.
So basically you are saying that Fleetwood Mac, for the first time in their entire careers, should just throw out some songs without any fanfare or label support. A quick and dirty release like One Man Show, which probably didn't even sell 10,000 copies. Talk about sullying a brand!
If I were a label exec, I'd be very scared of what Macklemore has done. I agree that the internet and social media is a game changer for mainstream POPULAR music. But Fleetwood Mac is no longer mainstream popular music. Their fanbase is much harder to reach and still requires the attention of dedicated professionals who know how it's done.

i agree they should just throw it out there now and see what happens. sh*t us fans could do better promotion for them at this point. also with it being an ep i am sure they will be selling it for around $4.99 or so which means more people might it. most of the people i know are cheap and while they do like FM they wouldnt pay $9.99 or so for a new cd but they would buy an ep for $4.99 or less. they could even do what amazon did for a few .mp3 albums a few months ago by selling them for $1.99 each. bruno mars went to #1 that week and i even bought it cuz if figured for that price if i only liked 1-2 songs it would be worth it. they just need a younger team of people around them.

But from those 10.000 the big percentage is for the artist himself. It was a very brave and sensible decision to do it this way. And basicly everyone who attended his OMS could grab it for 10 dollars. Enough.
An FM EP could sell some more, just as a teaser, the dollars float in your own pocket, and if it gets attention, maybe a label is interested in an album. Or it works as a thermometer; how's the public brand doing in 2013?
To call OMS a quick and dirty release, and "sullying", means basicly (to me) that you don't understand the State of the recordindustry in 2013. Lindsey brought out SWS solely on his own terms, with a little help from a distributer. I can buy the thing in every city in the Netherlands. ( Well, nobody does, But That's not the point:D )

Working as a manager for the FYE chain, I can tell you this is the truth unfortunately. Some of our stores already have (or are planning on installing) stations in-store where you can hook up your iPod, phone or MP3 device and buy mp3's or m4a files and instantly download them in the store using a credit card. Yeah, and unfortunatley the joke is on us! Both Stevie & Lindsey were spouting off in interviews late last year into early this year that they would "throw out" the newly recorded songs on the internet sometime before the tour began:cool: And Lindsey has been saying for the last 2 weeks that the EP will be released "any day now":distress:!! Approval for artwork my ass, all & any details should have been completed months ago. These 3 or 4 newly recorded songs have been in the can since last November. There is no excuse.

THIS is what Fleetwood Mac SHOULD be doing.
http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/1558294/new-order-debates-series-of-eps-for-future-releases
The New Order frontman explained that, following the reassembly of the band in 2011; they plan to remain active both on the road and in the studio.
"What we want to do, is keep a presence and just go away for a bit -- like for example, when we finish this small West Coast tour and South American tour, we are gonna go back and we've got two months to do some writing. Then we go to Russia, Istanbul, and then we do a bit more writing and then we come back and play in the UK and then we come back and play the East Coast and America."
The idea, according to Sumner, is to keep up the presence of the band, rather than slide off the radar. "We've never tried it before," added.
Sumner says the new recording projects will follow a different direction than past releases. "We're going to focus on a couple of tracks at a time. We're not doing a whole album – not the way we used to," added keyboardist/guitarist Gillian Gilbert, citing the reason for the new direction as a chance to provide the band with an opportunity to balance touring with providing fans with new music. "Instead of going away for two years and writing a record and coming back, we're going to do it this way so we still have time to carry on the tour while putting stuff out. We don't want to give up touring, but we don't want to give up writing."
Sumner and his bandmates are in the process of nailing down how they want to handle the release. "We're thinking about doing about 4 songs at once. We're still debating but I think what we're going to try and do is a series of EPs then we'll probably put them together as an album," he said.

One of my favorite bands, Drivin' n' Cryin', try to put out an EP every three months. They've managed to do that three in a row, the last 10 months with a delay of maybe 4 weeks. And those EP's are gorgeous, everytime they set up a theme in style. Songs From The Laundromat is typical for what they've done for many years (alt. Countryrock), Songs about Cars, Space and The Ramones is all about their punkrockroots, and Songs from the psychedelic timeclock speaks for itself. Wonderful gutsy and short powerhouses. Everyone of them.
They plan to continue this After the fourth, Which at first was planned to be the last.

It was essentially a “greatest hits” styled performance, although the band did drum up a new song that Buckingham revealed would be part of an EP release due out in the week ahead. The song, “Sad Angel,” fit in well when bookended by the mid 70s hits “Rhiannon,” and “Dreams.”

BREAKING NEWS: New Fleetwood Mac songs to drop on iTunes April 30
Fleetwood Mac’s new EP featuring the songs “Miss Fantasy,” “Sad Angel,” and “Without You” will be available from iTunes on Tuesday, April 30. A CD release of the songs is expected later, though no official date has been announced.
Fleetwood Mac has been performing two of the new songs, the uptempo “Sad Angel” and Buckingham-Nicks era “Without You,” on the current North American tour. Guitarist Lindsey Buckingham has been informing audiences with news of the forthcoming EP since the start of the tour, stating “it’s the best thing that we’ve done in years.”
The band’s last studio recording was Say You Will in 2003, which spawned the singles “Peacekeeper,” “Say You Will,” and “Steal Your Heart Away.”

Soldier's Angel was BN only, no Mick or John.
other SN's tracks on IYD have Mick on it.
Lindsey and Stevie have done only 3 new songs together as far as we know. i don't know whether Lindsey counts Without you in the new song series.
Mick, Lindsey and John have done 8, at least.
so i guess depends of what's the meaning of "together" for you, and who all you count in together?

Sad Angel sounds great and rocking, but it also sound like formula FM. a bit blander and less punky than TTWLG. since he was going for fleetwood mac-y, i assume most of the people on this board will love these new songs, and i also assume that i will still prefer his GOS1/SYW material.

It's funny that you mention "producing"... I really hope that Lindsey doesn't over-produce these new songs. IMO, The Mac sounds at their best when their more raw. Without You sounds fantastic live, as does SA because they're more in their raw form.
If he gives it cheesy guitar sounds (pretty much all of SYW outside of BTLH and SYHA) and a ton of vocal effects, it's going to sound like crap. I really like what Lindsey did with SWS and his One Man Show efforts - let's hope he keeps it minimalistic. The Buckingham Nicks song at least deserves that!

I myself don't like "blander" songs. Less punky, maybe, but it's not blandness that draws me to songs that I love and that you may not like. And I would say that SYHA and BTLH are the exception. I really don't think that the bulk of Lindsey's FM songs are extremely commercial. I think he realized that FM already had a strong pop presence in Christine and he tried to make his songs quirky in contrast. Some were odd, some were pop, but weirder, because they were retro (Diane, Caroline), but I think they are mostly off center.
I think he deliberately tried to keep Trouble and Did You Miss Me or even my beloved Gone Too Far, songs like that, out of FM for the most part, because he knew FM already would have things like Little Lies.

Couldn't agree more. In fact, I find all the talk of "formulaic" ironic. Lindsey's "production" is formula. Jangly, plucky guitars with tons of high end (geez, who does his mastering? It's awful); homogenous vocal effects that inexplicably disguise an otherwise amazing voice (dude can SING... why does he do that?); multiple songs with metronomes on the rhythm track (I'd think it was a mistake if it didn't seem he was building the track around it). SYW has some incredible songs, and some of them are brilliantly produced. But the above trends began with some of the songs there, and carried over to UTS in particular. OMS and the live tour around it were refreshing vocally, but the backing tracks were still generally poor; some of them sounded like MIDI downloaded from the Interwebz.
Fleetwood Mac desperately needs a producer or engineer or both. Lindsey can arrange and compose, but when it comes to recording... yikes. (This is something Ken Callait has said before, and he is quite right.)

Haha. It is 100 % his Own formula. it's a formula, Or style, Or Whatever you call it, that he concocted, brewed, and made his own. You may not like it, But the formula's that Lindsey talks about are formula's made by others, just to fit in a brand. Now what Ken Caillat says, is very subjective: he was a very gifted craftsman when it comes to recording, and Lindsey threw away all the values Ken stood for after Rumours. Thus, he's been telling stories from a certain point of view. And Lindsey is portrayed by him as a selfish selfindulged and stubborn unkind person, lately. Could all be true, but I constantly keep in mind that he still thinks Lindsey ruined his career after Rumours, without denying LB's brilliance and vision by the way.
I don't like Lindsey's productionstyle either. Somehow, he always wins me over. Because it's so idiosyncratic, sketchy, out of balance and pure in it's cartoonesque reality.

You're starting to sound like him (and that's a compliment btw)

Regarding "Sad Angel", I've only heard the youtube recordings, but I tend to agree. It's pleasant enough, but a bit formulaic. Maybe the production can kick it up a notch. We'll see.
I agree. As much as I like Sad Angel, sometimes during musical parts I feel like I'm listening to Temporary One.

Oh, yes, it's clear that Lindsey has left the left Side of his palette for the recordings of new FM material. He has said that it is all very pop and very Mac. Formula. The Guy has sold his soul. Why? To please the girl, so they can hit the cashmachine again with a long tour and maybe more.

  yup. hit the nail on the head right there. LB was not shy about saying basically the same, either.
hope they get all this new music out for us, but i really don't want them touring beyond start of 2014. i count on SN to put an end to that lol.

I'm willing to bet "the girl" isn't the only one who will be pleased if the new tracks are very "Fleetwood Mac" in style. I know I've certainly missed that sound.

But didn't he say, "it's the best work they've ever done"?
I'm with you, I'll take another solo work from him. But let's not think that it's just Stevie that likes the big machine. Everyone on the planet likes a big ATM machine. :o

nope he keeps saying "in a long time". which is of course factually true either way since they haven't done together anything in a long time, as far as we know.
for SWS he did say that may be the best work HE has ever done. note he didn't say anything like that for his This is 40 songs. ;)
i don't think anybody has any doubt that all macsters like their big cash machine, big adoring arena audiences and all that other jazz that comes with it. (while i like to keep my cash and go with more creative small machine instead :D)

I'm betting with you. I'm certain that the vox populi will be pleased. He's made that point clearly. I'm just saying that I like the idea of a band that transforms the old sound into new era. You need to take a certain risk to do that. And this time, I'm not holding my breath. I expect blandness.
But Hey! I honestly hope I'm wrong.

but, don't you want your favorite musician or band to be enthusiastic about the new stuff he's producing??
If they'd back up the words with actions, then, yes. But, everytime he says "best stuff we've ever done", yet when it comes to the concert set, we're lucky to get at least 3 of those songs. If it really WAS the best they've ever done, wouldn't you think they'd be wanting to push those tunes upon the concert-goers? With radio being so compartmentalized these days, people AREN'T going to hear the new material on the radio, so the only way to get the new songs exposed is to play them. But, they don't for the most part.

This battle has been ongoing since at least Tusk,a masterpiece that never would have happened if he had given in to "the girl" who then was complaining about the length of the album .the sound of his songs and even the name of the album. The chagrined middle of the road reaction was of course Mirage .

They played more than 3 new songs with SYW. This time around, we don't even have 3 new songs in a true sense, so . . .

No, he didn't, although he did say that for SYW. This time around he did say that John and Mick's playing on the new songs was superlative. But I think he meant on the songs they did as a whole and not just the Sad Angel we've heard.

Yeah, I can't complain about their promotion of the SYW album on that tour. They played quite a bit of it.

If they're 8 songs and we ever get to hear all of them, I'm sure many of them will contain a more progressive or experimental sound and that maybe he only had half that were designed to make Stevie want to sing on them. So, my guess would be that he gave her something to choose from and, for balance, the other 4 probably were a bit more Murrowy.

Citation? Or it didn't happen.
Perhaps you've conveniently overlooked the fact that Stevie's songs on Tusk, not Lindsey's, are the songs that essentially made it such an iconic album.
