No one is arguing that Stevie doesn't have lyrics/poems/journal entries, we're saying she doesn't have the melodies to go with them. Unless the songs in the vault are demos, I don't think she has songs with music/melodies.
I see no reason to assume this. Just because Dave co-wrote with her on her last album doesn't mean she is incapable of plodding about on the keyboàrd until she finds another way to use an F G progression. She wrote with Dave because it was exciting and opened new doors for her, and yes, it was probably easier than writing the music herself. And if she can't think of mußic, then she has Mike and whoever else to send her tracks.
but yes, many of the songs in the vault are demos.... I wasn't even thinking of her journAals. I was thinking about all of the songs she has that we know of that have never been properly recorded, and how many more there likely are that we have never heard.

Ah, warring factions. What every fandom needs.
Oh yes...unfortunately  Reading through the posts it feels like some are taking on all the years of animosity between Stevie and Lindsey for them both. Maybe in some karmic way that will free up the actual musical pair to create
Can't we all just get along! :o

We're not talking about LB; we're talking about Fleetwood Mac. Have they ever had a year like that?

wow wow wow... everybody here is playing nice. why can't you?
Play nice when we're talking about Lindsey.
The woman is holding out because she doesn't enjoy spending extended lengths of time in the studio with Lindsey. She's said as much in the past. It's really no great mystery.
except if that studio would be on the deserted island in Ireland, working on some BN songs. ;)

thought he was in FM?
and has HE ever had a year like this last one (or 2 really) before?
so if he can change, why not FM too?

I mean, Lindsey has a beautiful house. Keep inviting her over for family dinners and sneak in a few songs every now and then and eventually there will be enough for an album.

Lindsey will be the first to tell you that the big machine and the small machine just don't work the same way, due to factors both internal and external.

I've never heard the Ireland comment -- do you have a link so I can check out the interview?
Either way, this sounds like one off-hand comment as opposed to dozens of other instances of her making "not going to happen" comments. She seems fine with doing a track here & there with Lindsey, but doesn't seem to want that to snowball into any serious amount of time in the studio with him. But, hey, folks will speculate as they wish. Discussion is why we're all here. :)
Ah, warring factions. What every fandom needs.
yes, let's get back to the actual RS and msn interviews... don't you just love this honest and off-the-cuff Lindsey?
twitterverse has just loved his part of the interview, people are talking about "drinking the truth tea", or how they don't really know his songs other than with FM but how great he sounds and that they'll have to look his stuff up etc.
or would you rather he goes back to cycles and karma? b/c i love the guy, but i was not even reading his interviews anymore, i'd just skim through to see whether there's something i haven't heard before and that would be it.
these new interviews are so refreshing, yet informed and logical at the same time.

sounds like a good plan to me.
anybody has that Ireland BN comment for the guy asking about it somewhere above? CAD, i know you can pull it out?

I'm relieved to hear that it wasn't your attempt to be compassionate when suggesting Stevie use her "junk" about her mom's death because you sound like an fool at best and a rude fool at worst.
Luckily, you don't have to be subjected to such foolishness.
I'm not sure why you're conflating the inspiration for a song with its quality. Everything sparked by grief, mourning and death does not rise to the level of high prose. The basis for HAEWAFY does not make it a better song.
Lindsey has written about his family and death before. Sometimes it works for me (Turn it On), sometimes it doesn't (Flying Down Juniper).
I like Soldier's Angel. I don't like Desert Angel. My opinion on neither song is related to my feelings about dying and injured troops or the ravages of war. I can love or hate either song, without loving or hating war.
I've seen pages from Stevie's diary and they contain a lot of junk. When she was left alone with a dying uncle and she didn't know where her parents or aunt were, it caused her to write a line that has sent many of us running up the stairs and down the hall without finding an answer ever since. As much as I love those words, I am 100% sure that she pulled that line from diary pages containing other mediocre sentences which would not have made such moving song lyrics. Beauty is often culled from mental debris and emotional pain. But the outpouring of emotion itself is not art and I'm not going to treat everything Stevie may have written about pain, every rambling word, with tender concern.
In threads actually discussing her mother's death, I have posted with empathy. Someone said in the Stevie forum that this would be a hard Christmas for her, the first without her mother. I said that for the year after a loss like that, there will be many firsts, many sad anniversaries, because that's how I felt when my own father died. In 2006, I was marking every milestone: A year ago he got sick. A year ago he had his surgery. A year ago he died. I mused that that would be how it was for Stevie and wondered if it was better that Barbara died unexpectedly and had been healthy almost until the end or if it it would have been better if Stevie had known it was coming, as she did when Jess died.
When they ail for a long time, then you mourn for a long time, a little each day. Every day a bit of death -- from A Little Night Music. Love it, but that doesn't mean the play does not contain other songs that are full of JUNK.
A journal is for catharsis. It's supposed to contain stream of consciousness. It's not supposed to be poetry. And Stevie's aren't. But she takes lines from her journal entries and sometimes she makes magic out of them. My point was that she has had a lot of reasons to write since IYD was released. Many monumental things have happened in her life. I'm sure her diaries are spilling over with her experiences. Furthermore, she hardly needs a reason to enter her thoughts there. She will write about great events like her mother's passing and she will write about sordid ones like Monica Lewinsky.
My suspecting that she has written lots of junk in the last year or so has nothing to do with a loved one's dying. It was related to the fact that she's prolific and melodramatic and probably has written about lots of stuff from her mother to the end of the Twilight saga. I'm sure that she has material for many good songs swirling around in the mass of J-U-N-K she has put to paper. You separate the wheat from the chaff to get a good song. But that doesn't mean I'm going to pretend its all golden wheat, just because it's sentimental. Indeed, even if it's good, I'm not a big fan of maudlin.
I think of Temporary One. I was disappointed in both that song and Sweet Girl. But when my father died in 2005, I used the lyrics from Temporary One at his funeral, because I liked the sentiment of a bridge bringing us back together someday. Good words, but not a good song -- not to me.
Jane Goodall does good work, but Stevie's admiration for her did not make good song lyrics. All the journal entries about forgotten chimpanzees: JUNK. The fact that a child fell out of the window to his death does not mean I have to talk about Tears in Heaven with reverence.
And as to your comment that what I said wasn't nice, who said you had to be nice when talking about anyone's songs here? Who said you had to be nice when talking about any of the Macsters? You don't. It's more important to be nice to people who are actually here posting with you than it it is to be nice to the celebrities who are not.
Michele

i've heard that argument before but you know, they are big boys and girls, they can fend for themselves.

you're a wise man...
Stevie deciding to tour for a second year supporting IYD and also spending time writing "junk" about the loss of her mother..gave Lindsey time to tour local bars and taco stands...
Elle, I don't care how many shows Lindsey grunted through ....calling Stevie's writings "junk" about her mother who passed earlier this year is "not playing nice"...God forbid, if Lindsey has a child killed and he later writes a song pertaining to that tragedy...lets call it what it is "lots of junk about a dead child "
there it is again.
i won't even address the other part of your comment. i hope you delete it when you take some time to think about what you wrote. that's just horrible.
there's a circle of life. two things you compared are on the opposite ends of that circle and non-comparable.
mikephxaz, we get that you don't like the "junk" comment ( though you seem unable to stop using the term yourself  ), but to then to make such a sick comment about Lindsey's kids because of it? That's disgusting. And to try to justify it by saying that Elle doesn't "play nice" when you talk about Lindsey? Waaa. Perhaps Michele could have phrased her original comment differently, but do you really think one comment is reason to question her sense of compassion?? Why so hostile?
Go ahead. It's your turn now. Take your best shot. Be sure to make it personal.

I agree with johnnystew...Stevie is reluctant to tie herself down the The Mac. There is still a lot she wants to do solo wise. I think that she wants to have a great tour where they get along and don't end up at odds, making her miserable, therefore wasting valuable time. Bottomline...their getting along, but she doesn't trust him.
I think she has plenty of songs with melodies, but she is somewhat fearful of how they would turn out (SYW). If she didn't like them .....bam ....trouble in their new found paradise.
I am perplexed by Lindsey's new songs written about Stevie and how sad he thinks she is ....is he a shrink now? Loo..

The music to those songs may be really great, but I'm not even sure the song lyrics would be something you want to have written about yourself. I mean, with Under the Skin he was kind of just nodding when people asked if it was about her, he wasn't sitting there in her face and saying, "This is about you having trouble getting from point 'A' to point 'B.'" I don't think that would have gone over too well.
But he probably got away with feeding her Sad Angel because of her mother. So, she thought he was writing about her being sad over that and not just sad because . . . he thinks she's been a miserable wench ever since he's known her.

What was it he said when Bella Donna came out?
"Stevie has never been very happy , and I don't think the succes of her album has made her any happier. In fact, it may have made her less happy ."
Something like that, at least.
Also, the comment Stevie made was about Wales, I think. Going to rent a house in Wales.

thank you! yes, not Ireland, Wales (quote from April 2011):

"Or maybe Lindsey and I will go off and rent a house in Wales and do a Buckingham Nicks album. I have no idea, but I do know the music will continue."

Yeah...I just think this may all go up in flames....She is going to get tired of him maybe implicating that she's sad and her life is just an empty fantasy. He just strikes me as being so condescending towards her in these recent interviews. Killing her with kindness. If they had so much fun together? Why the backhanded criticism?
I always sense that he thinks he is so much smarter, deeper, and righteous than her. It may be silly to him but he knows how serious her life is to her. Who's obcessing over who??
Which is a nice luxury for him after so many hours at the shrink.
I'm glad he has gotten to have it all (family). I not intending to bash Lindsey per se.... just an observation...thinking out loud.
Stevie has been so upbeat and energetic the past few years. I'd hate to see her miserable with the Mac.
Stevie has always been Stevie her life and choices have been her own, her emotions rule her life and I think shes happy and in a good place.

I have to say, I don't think Lindsey's doing much good in the long run with these kind of statements. But then, I'm not Stevie, so maybe she won't care. I mean, I'm glad that he's being honest about what has been going on from his perspective, because I want him to be happy and of course, as a fan, I like to know what the deal is rather than just a bunch of empty promises... but like you said, it kind of feels like he's just complaining about her to the press and then putting "but she does everything from her heart" at the end of it to make it seem less cold. I love Lindsey, and I appreciate that he is frustrated with regards to the mindset Stevie went into the FM game with, and as someone who wants new FM music, it upsets me too... but I just get bad vibes from this all around. Especially since she's been rambling on about how wonderful their lives are (sorry - their life is) and how if it weren't for their ~journey together then they wouldn't be living the way they do now, etc. So although he's being honest and truthful, it comes off a bit negatively and I'm just worried that it's going to cause tension, basically.
So in short: Lindsey, couldn't you just lie and pretend that Stevie was awesome and that all of her ideas make sense so that she would be happy with you and you could coerce her into recording/ the rest of the tour would be joyous and wonderful for everyone?

Wow that rolling stone interview with lindsey was the best interview ever by either him or Stevie.
What I can't understand about Stevie is why we don't have any material about what's on her mind these days. I loved IYD. It's a ten out of ten but I was expecting song titles and subject matter like:
Music Theives
Put Your phone down
You make the studio fun (about Dave Stewart)
you don't make the studio fun (about LB)
Australian Winter
Trouble in social media la
And of course the album closer
has anyone ever written anything for you that you didn't hear because no one listens to new music nowadays anyway so what's the point

RE: Stevie's songs (or poems) - she and Lindsey both have said she already has a melody, she doesn't need him to write the music.
So, maybe she hasn't taken the time to sit down and do that - put music to her poems. We don't really know and arguing over Lindsey and Stevie's prolificness is useless.
I took the BN quote more seriously because it was the beginning of Stevie moving towards working with Lindsey as a duo again and talking about re-releasing BN. She still is promoting SA as "the most BN we have been since 1973."
But, maybe Stevie sees now that they don't need to rent a house in Wales since she loves Lindsey's house so much. :D

I'm excited to see them in NYC this year, but these interviews are so childish and self absorbed. It really turns me off. :sorry:
The drama may have still been cute in 1997, but in 2013, when you are all in your mid-sixties, it really seems very immature.

I remember watching videos of the Q&A's after the 3.5 IYD screenings and I recalled two interesting things:
1. When asked if she was going to continue to promote IYD with more screenings and DVD signings she said she really hoped to because Fleetwood Mac wont start up until January, giving her Nov and Dec to continue to promote IYD. Then, a couple weeks later at the Breaking Dawn premiere, she said the time with IYD was done. What happened in those couple weeks? Did her management get a hold of her and convince her that IYD was indeed done after a mere 3.5 screenings?
2. I remember another question was asked about her getting back together with FM and she said she was, but her body language definitely showed a sort of reluctance and she seemed less than thrilled about that. I wish I remembered what video it was so I can show you guys, but I'm betting some of you know what I'm talking about. Anyway, it kind of made me feel like if Stevie isn't even excited about going back to the Mac why should I be? I mean, I do plan on going to a show, if only because I missed out on seeing her in 2012. I kind of just have a bad taste in my mouth about this FM thing. :(

I think this is a perfect and on point observation. I just think it is hard on both of them still, or maybe not hard but I think they still have a little bit of animosity towards each other because of the past relationship, Lindsey because of Stevie's solo success, and Stevie because Lindsey did not support or want to have anything to do with her solo success at the beginning. She even mentioned that she left him a copy of Bella Donna at his door, and he just left it there.
Just because they are famous, doesn't mean they are not going to have the same emotions that all of us have, and the same dramas. BUT, without that drama from both of the drama queens (L & S) we wouldn't have a great catalog of music from the both of them. Their feelings towards each other have really been the fuel to write to great songs.
So........I guess what I am trying to see is that I don't want them to be too much in harmony...because of that happens, we won't get those amazing glares on stage, or the backhanded comments. We fans love all of their drama...and THEY KNOW IT!!! lol.

I get what you're saying. But, she always knew FM was coming so I don't think her reluctance or whatever that was we picked up on in the video you're referring to was because of that part. It must be the other things - the album talk, label issues, or even her newfound desire to acknowledge BN - because Stevie always says "you NEVER break up your band." And even in the video after she was like "Yeah, yeah FM. Whatever." She immediately followed it up with "but that's good - that's always good."
I know you're disappointed about IYD - and with good reason. But, hang on. I think we're going to get it all. (Fingers crossed).

Welp, I guess Rolling Stone is still doing their job stirring conversation! :D It's funny because I just don't take any of their interviews all that srsly. Depending on when they're being interviewed, where, how much sleep they got lol, etc. you're going to read different tones into their answers. I do see a change in Stevie since some of the IYD interviews a month or so ago; she seems much more positive about the tour etc. I think that's good; and I think that might have to do with these amazing, fun dinners at Lindsey's :p On the other side, I can't see how Lindsey is being so horrible. They both say outrageous things sometimes, sometimes very flippant. I don't think either of them, at least these days, are trying to be purposefully vindictive or condescending. This certainly is a fascinating band, lots of drama from the players and the fans :xoxo: Ultimately, I think we're all going to be very pleased with what will be coming in the future from our band  However that takes form - solo, duo, band - things are happening and that's cool

Stevie Nicks dishes on new and old work with Lindsey Buckingham
By Randall Roberts, Los Angeles Times Pop Music Critic

Some of the most exciting news to come out of a conversation with Stevie Nicks on Monday was when she discussed a recent studio session with fellow Fleetwood Mac member and longtime collaborator Lindsey Buckingham. The two will join Mick Fleetwood and John McVie to resurrect Fleetwood Mac for a 2013 tour, but they have a history that extends long before they joined Mac in 1975.
The pair recorded one gorgeous, self-titled record in 1973 as Buckingham Nicks, and it was this work that prompted Fleetwood, McVie and then-keyboardist Christine McVie to ask them to join Fleetwood Mac. The rest is (a tangled, romantically complicated) history.
Jump to early 2012, when -- as Nicks calls them -- "the boys" in Fleetwood Mac got together to work on new material. Nicks had just lost her mother to pneumonia, then contracted the virus herself, and was unable to join them. The three soldiered on, with Buckingham writing two songs specifically for Nicks. A few weeks ago she heard those rough tracks for the first time.
“I went up to Lindsey’s house, he played me all of the songs, and we chose two," Nicks said on Monday. "He said, ‘I really tried hard to be you, to really see through your eyes when we were doing these songs, and make these songs that you would really like, and that you would really relate to.’"
She says the process was quite different than the last time they collaborated in 2002 for “Say You Will” because Buckingham and Nicks weren’t in a professional studio this time. “We were in his house where his wife and children are,” she said. “We had dinner with his family every night, and it was a whole other deal. We spent half the time working on these two songs, and the other half of the time we spent talking about our life, going all the way back to the beginning, to 1966 when we first met in high school, when he was a junior and I was a senior.
“We laughed and laughed and laughed about all the crazy things that have happened to us,” she said, describing the interactions as “a very cathartic time, and a very healing time, I think. And the songs came out great."
Nicks said the two songs are called "Sad Angels" and "Miss Fantasy," and will be available in the months leading up to the tour. "The words are very interesting, and the melodies are great, and it’s like they did go back to a time long ago. I think the world will be very taken with these songs."
As far as another full-length album, Nicks was more tentative. "We’ll just see," she said. "If the world loves them, then we have something to gauge what’s going on as far as Fleetwood Mac goes. And then at that point we record two more songs. So we don’t have to record a 14-song album, but are putting out some consistent product.'
Die-hard fans will be excited to know that the pair also dug further into their past by recording an unreleased song by their pre-Mac duo Buckingham Nicks that Nicks discovered in her archives. "Neither of the two of us can figure out why the heck it didn’t go on the 'Buckingham Nicks' record," she said. "Maybe it was the last song and there wasn’t room. We don’t know, but we recorded it, and it came out great."
Nicks' hope is that it will see release as part of a CD reissue in conjunction with the 40th anniversary of "Buckingham Nicks." The album has never been reissued either on CD or digitally.
Alas, that milestone will likely be overshadowed by a bigger one -- and one reason for the reunion: the 35th anniversary of "Rumours," which will be marked with a new deluxe reissue featuring outtakes that will arrive in 2013.

Fleetwood Mac To Release New Songs on That Crazy Internet

Venerable rock stalwarts Fleetwood Mac will hit the road again in 2012 for a 34-city trek that will be the 45-year-old band’s 16th major tour.
Vocalist and white-winged dove Stevie Nicks said in an interview with Billboard that in anticipation of the tour the band has recorded three new songs, which apparently “sound extremely young." The current band is the 1975-era lineup of Nicks, guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, bassist John McVie, and drummer Mick Fleetwood.
Despite claiming not to own a computer or use the Internet, Nicks had some pretty au courant comments about getting the new tunes out there in advance of the tour: “Since nobody really cares about albums anymore," she said, "you can come up with two or three great songs and just put them out there."

I just came across this, as well:
"These songs sound like they're 30," Stevie Nicks tells Billboard. "It blows my mind. Because we've never stopped, our voices and everything"
So she must think that these songs sounds like early-Fleetwood Mac stuff.

Lindsey knows why that song wasn't on the Buckingham Nicks album. He said that Stevie wrote it shortly AFTER they recorded BN, because they thought there may be a second album for them.

I love this. I had no idea songs could sound like they were "30". I mean that is some specific gauge she's got there to know they sound 30 and not 25 or 19...

So am I right in concluding that it is a BN song that we haven't heard yet?
Does Lindsey just sit around not saying anything to her most of the time? Like does she muse, "I wonder where that breeze is coming from?" And he says nothing even though he sees a whopping bird flying right above her head?
So, ultimately she is telling people, "neither Lindsey or I could figure out what caused that mysterious wind."

And isn't that something you say about a vocal rather than a song. Like your voice might sound like it did when you were 30. That's a good thing. On the other hand, you don't necessarily want a song sounding 30. You want it to sound 2012.
I mean, that might have been the criticism of EFO. It sounded 30, like when they were 30. It sounded disco.

 sounds like it from these most recent interviews, doesn't it? she concludes stuff and then says we as she and LB, or she and the rest of the Mac, have concluded that. she says stuff like we don't want to record a new album and people say - see, FM the band doesn't wanna make a new album. and the rest of FM mostly let her say whatever she wants it seems without much reaction.
actually, looking at those videos of Q&A with Stevie and Dave after their movie screenings, that's how the relationship between her and Dave seems to work - she kept talking over him and answering every single question left and right and just kept going on and on regardless of whether her answers had anything to do with the original question;). and he would just sit there and laugh and say something like "yeah i just have to let her yak on, have no other choice." so maybe she keeps going on like that when alone with these people too, and they just tune her out, and even if they do say something back she just talks over them, ignores them, or says "no, i'm right, you don't know"? i found those interactions between her and Dave at q&as really funny, and guess he just takes her as she is. i remember discussing that with one huge SN fan and she said how most SN fans just found all that highly endearing.
however that's why these most recent Lindsey interviews were so informative and refreshing (well other than the relief of not containing the usual big machine/small machine/cycles talk). we actually got to hear what he thinks (and seems that what Stevie presents as we think, is actually just what she thinks ).

this worries me. do we want them to sound like when they were 30? or like they are 30 now? i don't. i don't want 60 year olds singing about problems of 20 or 30 year olds..... that doesn't make any sense and would make them look pathetic.

I think she meant musically. The "sound," not the words.
We already know the songs are about Stevie, but they seem to be from a perspective reflecting where they are now in their relationship (and looking back on it).

I think he wanted to attract her with the sentiment of the words too, but except for Ms. Perfect FM has never been a particularly literal band. What the song may be about won't necessarily be obvious in its words or sound. So I am not worried about this music sounding like Taylor Swift's, even if the conflict behind it may seem childish to me. I do not think the musical translation will.
I did think CAD and "it was you" were a little too sing songy (but CAD has taken on gravity live this year) and I don't want the songs to be too surface. Sometimes I worry, but then again, FM fluff even had its intricacies and I do not think Lindsey can have completely lost sight of that. Michele

I don't think there's anything abiguous about her saying the songs sound 30, as in, 30 years old. She means they sound like classic Fleetwood Mac, which is what everyone has been saying.
I can't pretend to understand what Stevie's saying all of the time (how can anyone) but once you omit a lot of 'you know's, 'well's, 'really's, and 'like's, and you've listened to her talk a lot, it's a little bit easier. A little bit. :)

One thing is, I am not sure Stevie and Lindsey know what classic FM sounds like. For me it is not so much the pop as it is the harmonies and how the voices change the meaning of the words. They did achieve this with Soldier's Angel, Miranda, Thrown Down and EFO to me. I hope I can get more along those lines. Actually, they make good darkness together.
Sad Angel scares me because though it is possibly dark, when LB describes it, I just hear the chilling words "what's the matter baby," pop up in my ear.

I think Stevie and Lindsey's candid, unadorned interpretations of each other's feelings might probably be pretty accurate. But the problem is they often offer distorted images of each other for public consumption and ulterior reasons and that tends to make their assessments and stated views questionable.

I'm sure they know/Stevie knows that diehard fans want new music. Diehard fans always want new music. But, as I've said, I truly don't believe that's the reason for her reluctance. It's an easy answer to give the press, without getting into band politics.

It's obvious to me that Stevie wants to do the Buckingham/Nicks thing and finally get that album out there and then go back to her solo career. She doesn't want to do a Fleetwood Mac album. She didn't like the results of Say You Will and Fleetwood Mac is not the same for her with Christine gone. The best results in decades came from working with Dave Stewart and she wants to end her career on a good note. She only has soo much time. She fealt jumped by the boys in the band about doing another album.

I've been thinking about this. Someone needs to give Stevie some updated information. I think there is a higher percentage of people who wouldn't buy their stuff anyway that would be more likely to download illegally -- and even if "fans" do the download, like you say, they probably will buy possible multiple copies, so it washes out. They aren't losing sales, I don't think. But, if she thinks the reason they don't sell Rumours era volume, someone needs to explain it's not due to internet piracy. I don't even know that many people who do that anymore - for anything other than bootlegs - not for new releases. Everyone I know just purchases via iTunes or Amazon.

I mean, I know tons of people who illegally download. But like you said, it's never people they're terribly invested in (unless they're DLing bootlegs). It's the people that they can't be bothered to go to the store and buy the album for, or don't want to spend $10 on, but want to hear it anyway. Usually FANS of stuff will go out and buy it because they want to support the artist. So the issue is, do FM have enough fan's to make an impact? I think even casual fans would probably buy the album. It's usually the people who just don't care either way that illegally DL.
Like you said, Stevie & FM's percieved lack of sales probably in the long run has little to do with internet piracy. I'm sure that affected a select, small portion of how much they could have sold - but probably not enough to even make a blip on the radar. The fact of the matter is that they're not in the limelight. Taylor Swift's new album sold over a million it's first week, I think, and know why? Because she's hugely popular right now. Fleetwood Mac were hugely popular 30 years ago.
That doesn't mean that no one wants to hear new music for them, it just means that their peak of album sales have passed and it largely has nothing to do with the state of the music industry (unless you're talking about the genres that people are buying a lot of or something) and more to do with the fact that, well, it's 2012. Yes, people are buying less albums in general now than they were 30 years ago, but people still buy albums. Lots of people. Millions of people.
You know what's REALLY going to cause them not to sell any albums? Not RELEASING any albums.
The Catdancer

Even if she doesn't, that's easily rectified with the help of someone like Mike Campbell or Dave Stewart, as I noted above.
But that's not the issue here.
I agree. I think she doesn't want to record with FM because she had so much fun recording with Dave Stewart. We all know that she didn't like recording SYW (she pretty much didn't like anything about SYW), than she recorded IYD where she had fun and "it was the best year of my life". I think she doesn't want to spend any time recording with FM because she's afraid of Lindey and her "exploding into timber". Recording IYD was a breeze, SYW.... not so much. I think she doesn't want to go through that again and I can't blame her. I think she has the songs, melody and all, she just doesn't want to record with FM.

^Yes, I'd say the idea that Stevie can't find anyone to put her lyrics to music is ludicrous. She knows the same chords she's known since she was a teenager and she owns a guitar and a piano. She can write music, melodies, just like she's always written them.
Furthermore, whether she's on tour or not, let's face it: she basically pays the salary of a few musicians year round. And she has lots of musician friends. She could get them to do it. She's been making her own demos for over 30 years now.
I've been thinking about this. Someone needs to give Stevie some updated information. And maybe I'm just generalizing. I think FM fans might be less likely to illegally download than a younger artist's fans would be. Maybe that's not true. When Napster was around it might have been interesting to see what their stats were for illegal FM/SN downloads.
Of course, I do agree that Stevie just says this stuff as an excuse for not doing what she doesn't want to do. For whatever reason, she didn't want to record another solo album after TISL and she accused her fans of theft to justify that decision and the people around her encouraged her not to record any longer. Plus, she believes computers have hurt the music industry in general and likes to blame them for the downfall of civilization. But when it comes for not wanting to record, she could at least find a rationalization that isn't accusatory and illogical.

Yes, these interviews are the ones that got my blood boiling initially.....and yes I will take back saying FM as a whole doesn't want new music but when this is said..............
Stevie:
Do you think a new Fleetwood Mac album is possible at some point in the future?
We have two new Fleetwood Mac songs and one Buckingham-Nicks song. We have new product, but I don't know what we're going to do with them. Maybe we'll throw one of them out in January and the second one in February. The music business is very different right now. I don't understand it. I don't have Internet. I don't have a MySpace Face page. I don't have all that and I don't want it. Nobody is really interested in buying albums with 14 songs on them anymore. It breaks my heart, but that's the way it is and I have to accept that.
Lindsey:
How do you envision the set being different from the last tour?Good question. Good question. It's kind of a mystery. You have to understand you do come to a point where people aren't . . . where it isn't a prerequisite to go out and do things people haven't heard before. In a way, they don't want to hear anything new. They are coming to hear a body of work. When you come to terms with that, it's kind of freeing.
And yes, Lindsey is speaking more about playing new "live" music....... but I guess it is just upsetting to hear from these artists that fans don't want to hear/buy anything new........I think that is so far from the truth...........My overall gut reaction (and stated here in previous posts) is that Stevie is done recording with FM and Lindsey just seems to be on this incredible creative roll...............really an absolute shame:(

You know what's REALLY going to cause them not to sell any albums? Not RELEASING any albums.
I think Lindsey has figured that out (thus his multiple studio and live albums over the past decade). I wish Stevie would figure it out too.
Fact is: A Mac album WILL sell better than any Lindsey or Stevie solo albums (put together), so that's where the money is. Imagine if Lindsey had been this prolific under the Mac moniker. I'm not saying gangbuster sales, but surely 10x the sales.

Exactly.
And the thing is, you know that if they don't do a Mac album, Stevie's going to go straight back to Dave and start working on more solo stuff, which is entirely hypocritical. So people don't want to hear new Mac music, but they want to hear new Stevie music? Sorry, I love Stevie with all of my heart, but no. I don't think you'll find many Stevie Nicks fans who wouldn't buy a Mac album, but you'll probably find plenty of the reverse.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for Stevie being happy, and I actually think that's really what this whole issue pivots around - Stevie doesn't want to record a Mac album. But if that's the case, and her mind can't be changed, then she just needs to just come out and say, "Look, being in the studio with Fleetwood Mac is no fun for me. It stresses me out. I'm 64 and not getting any younger and I'd like to focus on solo projects that give me more personal gratification."
She's more or less said that much, if you string a couple of her statements together and fill in the gaps... but still, the album sales BS is a sorry excuse. It's not stopping anyone else from putting out new music. It didn't stop you last year from putting out new music. It's a cop-out. Either you have more to say as an artist, or you don't. Either you want to keep FM a progressing artistic entity, or you're washed up.

This is true in part, but you have to consider the fact that Trouble in Shangri-la and Say You Will have both been certified Gold, but neither has been certified Platinum. Estimates are that TISL has sold a little over 650,000 and SYW has sold about 850,000. More people buy Fleetwood Mac albums than Stevie albums, but Stevie gets less money for each FM album than she does with her solo albums. So financially, solo albums may be more lucrative for Stevie where as touring is her money maker with the Mac.

Just because she shares half of her songwriting credits with Dave doesn't mean he gets half of the royalties tho. Being that it is a Stevie album, she has a much better bargaining angle with her royalty percentage than she does in a Mac album. Plus, she doesn't have other band members getting a royalty per each album. She also split writing credits on Running Through the Garden and Everybody Finds Out on SYW, so not only do those additional writers get royalties, but so do John, Mick, and Lindsey for being the signed artist "Fleetwood Mac" whereas in her solo albums she gets that "Fleetwood Mac" percentage because the only signed artist on the record deal is "Stevie Nicks." Not only that, but there are songs on Fleetwood Mac albums where she gets zero writing credit. Not saying that her solo albums make her a whole lot more money than FM albums, but they probably do make her at least the same if not more than a Mac album would and she has much more control over them and doesn't have to deal with all the band politics. Therefore, I can see why she is much more willing to make a solo album even if she knows it isn't going to really sell a whole lot.

Actually, unless she and Dave Stewart made an agreement about her getting more royalties than he does, then they would have an equal 50/50 share. Given how much she adores him, and the fact that she gave him sole music credit on the songs he worked on, I'd be surprised if they didn't get half-and-half.. And all of Stevie's various studio musicians have to get paid, too. So yeah, she has to split the "recording artist" royalties with FM, but but those recording artist royalties aren't much anyway - that's why Mick and John make most of their money from touring, since they aren't bringing in songwriting royalties like Stevie and Lindsey.
These are all logistics that we could speculate on for days. She could potentially even out and make the same on her solo records, depending on the specifics of her deal & how much it they put into the albums initially. It's possible, but the thing is, you're gonna support an album with a tour, and there's no doubt that she makes MUCH more touring with FM than solo, so in the end, FM = more lucrative. I'm not disagreeing... Of course it's easier to make a solo album, and that was the whole idea - she WANTS to make solo records, not FM records.
The point remains, regardless of whether she's making an FM album or a solo album, either way it's not going to sell a whole lot. Saying that's why she doesn't record new FM music while she goes and records solo stuff is still BS. She could say "I make more money on my solo records nowadays than I do with FM records" and that might be okay. She could definitely say "FM stresses me out and I have a much more enjoyable time working on my own." But saying "No one buys records any more so we aren't going to record a New FM album ~prances off with Dave Stewart~" is hypocritical.
Like I said, I want Stevie to be happy. I get it. But the excuse is ridiculous.

Yes, Dave will get half of the songwriting royalties, but he won't get half of the album royalties. Mick and John make most of their money from tours, but they still make a decent amount from album royalties. All the recording artist royalties for Fleetwood Mac are divided among Stevie, Lindsey, Mick and John according to some negotiated percentage for each member. However, all the recording artist royalties for a Stevie solo album get to Stevie herself. So she not only gets her 50%-100% writing credit for her songs, but she also gets a percentage of album sales just for being "Stevie Nicks", and that percentage is much more than the percentage she gets for being 1/4 of "Fleetwood Mac." Studio musicians get paid for their work in the studio, but unlike the signed artist, they don't continue to get paid for album sales.
I don't disagree with you on the fact that she doesn't want to record with Fleetwood Mac. If she wanted to, she would do it. However, I think if it was guaranteed that the next Mac album would sell 5 million records, she'd be there in a heartbeat regardless of whether or not she really wanted to. She has made it pretty clear she doesn't like recording with Fleetwood Mac anymore and that she doesn't want to tie herself down to them for three years, but I think sales numbers would be a very decisive factor. We all know Tusk, Mirage, and Tango weren't the most lovely of times for them, but the sales were there and so was Stevie. I just don't see how it is hypocritical to make a solo album but not make one with FM because people "don't buy records." From the outside it may seem as so, but the fact of the matter is that not as many people are expected to buy her solo records, so when a FM album only sells 30% more than a solo album but it costs a lot more to make, takes more time, and comes with all the politics, there is no incentive for her to do it. Lastly, I love the idea that she would saunter off to go record a new album with Dave after the Mac tour, but nobody knows if she will. She stopped recording solo albums for a while because "nobody buys records" until she eventually decided to do IYD. Thing about it is, even after IYD she is still saying "nobody buys records" so who knows? Stevie Nicks may never record another album again for that very reason.

It's interesting to me this last week or so as all the newspapers have been running with a story about the tour and snippets from the various interviews surrounding the tour, about 1/3 of them have chosen to go with the headline that Christine won't be returning.
Well, she hasn't been returning for 14 years. I'm not sure why that's news or why anyone thinks that headline will get more readers to look at or click on the story. But obviously someone thinks it will, because that's the headline for dozens of the articles.
Some of them quote the asteroid comment. Some of them quote the "shocked and pleased" comment. Of course, I wish more of them would quote what Mick said: which is that maybe Stevie would write a song and Christine might sing on it. No one makes that their lead. HA! That's the headline I would run with.

I think that was true for the 7 or 8 years she wasn't putting out any new material - that they told her that she needed to tour because she could still sell tickets etc and that that was where the most money was.
But I'm not sure how that all stands today. I mean, I'm sure they would like for her to be bringing in money which she generally does by touring.

She did say that management told her there was no reason to release another solo album after TISL though.

Yes, Stevie finally copped to this is a few interviews during the In Your Dreams era and was even more blunt during her IYD doc Q&A's this fall.
Basically after the SYW tour wrapped in 04', Stevie planned to go back in the studio to record another solo record in 05', going back and forth (between FM project to solo) like she'd always done since Bella Donna. But much to our displeasure we've come to discover that not only her management discouraged her to record, but also music executives & industry people convinced her the recording industry (specifically piracy) was in such a state of disarray and that she'd only be hurt and discouraged by the outcome of recordings diminishing returns. Basically "they" said she should continue touring, because that's where the money is, while she still was a marquee concert selling solo artists. So unfortunately, as we all know, she conceded, and didn't fight back against this advice.
So essentially from 05' through 09' this was Stevie mindset, until she wrote "Moonlight" towards the end of the "Unleashed" tour, which thankfully was the creative catalyst from which Stevie decided it was time to record again. Music Industry politics & piracy be damned! Claiming that she wasn't going to be deterred whether the record sold well or not.

At this moment I am very pissed off at Stevie. I just got the newest issue of Rolling Stone. I was excited to see a small article about Fleetwood Mac, until I read it.
Her comment that "nobody is interested in albums these days" is not entirely true. Where is this bitter and skewed attitude coming from? Is it from her disappointment that sales of her last solo album weren't what she expected? Is it from inept management, who have convinced her the internet is evil, and discouraged her from recording new music?
What really incensed me was reading that the group worked on eight new songs and Stevie declined to sing and record all of them. WTF?
Who could have ever predicted that, at this latter stage in their careers/life, Lindsey would have a resurgence of creativity and progress, and Stevie, who always (used to) proclaimed her devotion to the band, would be the one to stall all efforts to extend Fleetwood Mac's legacy and deny long-time fans something new to look forward to. Thanks Stevie.:distress:

It's coming from the truth? Maybe she's just voicing the way they all feel. As I've pointed out, there are many artists in their generation who are struggling to find out how to manuever in this new digital age. Labels don't want them, don't have the money, can't afford to promote them, won't promote them, drop them...
I think it's a stretch to call the most powerful management gurus in the business "inept"...
Surely they must all know something we don't know!
What really incensed me was reading that the group worked on eight new songs and Stevie declined to sing and record all of them. WTF?
She explained that she was still grieving her mom -- and then went back and put vocals on at least three songs we know of - maybe more.

How do we know that's all her fault and not more about the business - not having a label? Or trying to work through all that? We are going to get new music, it just might not be a full album. And, it's been suggested they might do one after they see how this goes. How do we know that's not what the label has offered them - we'll "throw" this EP out and see how that goes and then maybe an album deal will come from that.
I would think it must be tough blow to the ego for the label not to be knocking down your door any more to get a new album.

How do you know this? I've never heard anything about Stevie ever expressing a yearning motivation to get the Buckingham Nicks album re-released. Both she and Lindsey have always been very ambivalent about it, despite knowing they have legions of fans who are waiting for it. It could potentially garner the most attention and biggest sales figures they've had in years. However, par for course -- timing, opportunity and cooperation are not their strongest suits.

She's been spouting about it in her press -- that they should do it for the 40th anniversary.

I don't think that people are upset about them making a living for themselves, but I think that some fans are disappointed and disillusioned that they're are not more "fan friendly" by assuming that the fans don't want to hear new music, don't want them to change their setlist, don't try and promote themselves with a descent Web site, no official You Tube channel, and not trying to make the tickets available to the fans. I personally don't understand why people on here seem to think that the band members are hurting for money, and constantly need to tour to make money. If they need money then it's their own fault, they've all made millions of dollars over the years. Furthermore, I think that the fans are frustrated that they don't use that money to be more creative and make new music, and change their setlist, instead of repeating themselves for what appears to be for more money. All in all, the Mac is not doing nothing that other artist like the Eagles are doing, but since this site is for Mac fans, a lot of people are venting their frustration that so much more could be done. There are definitely more groups and artist that work to give their fans more of what they want and not just repeating themselves for what appears to be just for the money.
^Um, they are right! You can't make money off recorded music unless you can push multi million units & that will never happen for them again.
And, she does love the road. And, she does love the money & the luxury. I don't know why everyone's upset that they want to make money. This is their job! And it's always been their job. Why do ya'll think they busted their butts in the early days? They wanted to make it big - so they could afford to keep doing it! I'm glad. I would love their lifestyle too. It's nice!

lol. and what did she mean by the songs that are 30?? :D
i don't know what she meant
What she meant was that with her current level of energy and her crispy clear vocals, these days she sounds like and moves like she did, when she was in her 30's. Perhaps she feels the same way about Lindsey also.

Love it elle!!!! This should be the replacement word for chiffonhead! I love you, sooooooooooo much for your creative mind.:xoxo:

I don't think they are hurting for money, but come on - it's gotta take a lot to maintain & remain in that nice lifestyle...
As for the setlist - what do other vet acts do? You mean the Eagles, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Dobbies, Heart don't do their hits? I would be curious how much new music they incorporate into their set list -- and I would LOVE to hear album cuts or new stuff -- but I'm realistic. I know that the diehard fans like me who would love that are not in the majority and they do have to play what the masses want to hear.
The website/youtube/social networking thing -- well, since they're paying people to do that and they're not exactly sitting around checking the status themselves then what are they gonna do? It's a situation again (similar to the label issue) where they are probably WAY down on the priority list of some intern who is busy updating Beiber or Taylor Swift -- not Fleetwood Mac. And, didn't Warner have some war with youtube? I'm not sure where they are with that.

Yes, Stevie finally copped to this is a few interviews during the In Your Dreams era and was even more blunt during her IYD doc Q&A's this fall.
Yes, I remember Stevie saying that her advisors told her there was no reason to make albums. She even repeated this when she went to the Twilight premiere and said that made her change her mind about recording new music, no matter what people were telling her, no matter if the music sold or not.
But I'd like to see the interviews where she said her management was keeping her on the road. I missed that. I think she tours to make money for sure. She also has a lot of people who depend on her financially and I'm sure she feels an obligation to Waddy, Sharon, etc. But I've never heard her say that her management told her just to keep touring. I think she gets bored after awhile at home and probably asks for more tour dates after awhile. Solo dates I'm speaking of here. I mean, even if her management didn't have a short solo tour planned each year, I think she'd want one, just for kicks.

I'm not sure which thread to post this in, since the topic is popping up in so many of them, but regarding the fans not wanting new music:
I'm not trying to defend the band's statements, but they aren't totally off base. When we say "fans," we are talking about ourselves, Ledgies and others just like us. And yes, we want new music. But we are a pretty small group of people. When the band talks about fans, they are talking about the thousands of people filling those arenas each night, and those people are there for the old staples. When I saw the SYW tour, it was shocking how many people went for beer or bathroom breaks when Lindsey was doing "Come," and when I saw the TISL tour, there was plenty of grumbling on the way out about Stevie's omission of "Landslide."

I do remember her saying that when she wanted to tour with Tom Petty in 2006, her management told her to consider that her vacation. Is she still with Howard Kaufman? Lindsey once unfavorably referred to him as "big, bad Howard."

Yes, she's still with HK. Funny about that vacation. I don't think Stevie lacks for vacation time. She manages to get plenty of time off - several weeks or months each year. She doesn't tour non stop as she likes to claim.

True, a disc jockey, just checked Stevie when she discussed wanting to explore lesser known songs in concert and said she had to perform the classic hits. He was saying, "don't say you HAVE to do it. We want you to want to perform those songs." And he basically cut off her talk about rarer tracks. I would expect a DJ to be a little more open-minded, but he represents those casual fans out there. That's what they want.

Oh yes. I remember that. I don't think they wanted her to do those Petty shows. It seemed like they thought it was diminishing, being an ongoing cameo player, but Stevie said she got treated like a queen on the road, they gave her what she wanted (can't remember what perks those were at the time) and she had the best time.

IMHO it's a bit of both explanations.
Stevie HAS had a re-invigoration with IYD and her creative collab with Dave. I think her and Lindsey have reached an understanding and reminiscing stage of their relationship..for now..that can only add to that positive energy. She's in a relatively good place. Her music has sounded strong vocally, we all know the changes of her tones and fragility i.e. WH> RAL > OSOTM > etc. And I can see how she (and vivfox!) may relate her described current "sound" on these new songs to younger days.
I think that is further restated by Stevie describing the songs as "sounding 30." I don't think WildHearted meant the songs were written 30 years ago..LB has kind of described their origin and meaning via Rolling Stone. But I do think the melody, harmonies, instrumental/backing track could be reminiscent of post Rumours-esue versus more comparable to SYW. Which I think is good all around! :D:D:thumbsup:
I'm really excited about them both revisiting this sound from a mature perspective, as well as their "roots" as a couple, band, etc. Can't wait. It better pay off.. :p

Both she and Lindsey have always been very ambivalent about it, despite knowing they have legions of fans who are waiting for it. It could potentially garner the most attention and biggest sales figures they've had in years. However, par for course -- timing, opportunity and cooperation are not their strongest suits.
There was just an article from Lindsey where he talked about Stevie's desire to get the Buckingham/Nicks album out. She is enthusiastic about it. I think Lindsey is now too.

I am sceptical about her management and others persuading Stevie not to do another album in the early 2000's. I really think it was her own decision. TISL did not sell what she hoped, maybe, and it is interesting that when she did get around to recording again she relied so massively on Dave Stewart to cowrite etc. I have a nagging suspicion that she finds it hard to write anymore, has little patience with the studio, and sees little financial reward in recording - to keep feeling like a star and making money, it is just plain easier to do concerts. With eg. Rod Stewart.
Lindsey is different, he is not recording and touring for the money, and he seems to be on a creative roll. I sometimes wonder if Stevie's IYD venture had something to do with "competing" with Lindsey, who was pumping out the new content.

You don't think her contract has stipulations? I am sure it said she had to give them so many albums within a certain period of time. After that, she would be a free agent and would have to either go indie or try to get them interested again - her management would negotiate that.
But putting all the blame on the artists for not churning out albums is not fair - unless everyone thinks they should just do a garage band project & sell them out of the trunk of their cars.

Aside from the fact that we don't know whether she had some contract or whatever, the fact remains that there are lots of artists who keep producing despite all that. Lindsey Buckingham is one name that comes to mind, but there are very many formerly top-selling artists out there who keep putting out new material and selling realtively few units - yet maintaining their creativity and credibility.
Look, if you will not keep producing, regardless of the reasons, then you are no longer an artist, and you are not productive.

She is or was under a contract - otherwise we wouldn't have IYD. Sure, LB finally went indie. But, not overnight. He shopped for a label. He only decided to go indie when no one was interested.
I'm just saying it's not as cut & dried as you're making it out to be. You can't just snap your fingers & put something out necessarily - if she is a free agent then maybe. But, as FM to go from big label & big advance & all the other perks they were used to - to settle for something less - I can see how that transition would be a difficult thing to negotiate & adjust to.

I think you have a point with Steive having little patience with the studio. It's not just that she is tired of Lindsey in the studio (and he's famous for making it more complicated than it needs to be); she might be tired of the studio as well and the pleasure of working with Dave was that it seemed more like a party than a recording process.
I think Lindsey tried to create that vibe at his house, having Stevie eat with his family and what not for those 4 days. He listened to what she said she liked so much about working with Dave and tried to simulate it a little, it seems.

Ultimately, Yes, it was Stevie's decision to not record solo again in 05'. She said as much during her various Q&A's around the screenings of her In Your Dreams documentary. Stevie admitted she just gave in after getting all this feedback (from management, record executives, etc.), and chose not to fight back, which she said is generally not like her.
As far as TISL sales and your assertion that its commercial outcome was not what her or "they" expected. That is outright speculation. In retrospect that album sold reasonably well, esp. considering it was released at the height of Napster. Verified Napster use peaked with 26.4 million users worldwide in February 2001 (Just a little over 2 months before TISL was released). So even though Napster's demise was right around the corner, shut down by the district courts in late Summer of 2001. Several copycat file sharing sites popped up immediately thereafter.
So if you really believe TISL was a disappointment commercially for Stevie, Then you'd have to ultimately conclude Fleetwood Mac's SYW must have been an even more crushing blow -- having sold only @20% more than TISL did
The real difficulty for both Stevie & FM recording new music ten years after TISL & SYW respectively, is that now unless they're reaching the young music buying demographic on a big scale, or landing a multi-faceted co-branding corporate sponsorship deal, their platinum and even gold selling days are over (which most of us here have accepted).
Stevie Nicks has arguably done more for keeping Fleetwood Mac's name & brand in the mainstream news since the release of her critically and creatively successful "In Your Dreams" solo album. Like it or not Stevie has the most marquee value in this group. That's not to say that one is greater than the sum. That's not what I am debating at all.

Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks: 'We'd love to headline Glastonbury!'
Singer tells NME she hopes to squeeze in the Pyramid Stage on their 2013 reunion tour
Fleetwood Mac's Stevie Nicks has told NME that she'd love to headline Glastonbury in 2013.
Addressing rumours that the band could coincide a forthcoming summer 2013 tour with their debut appearance headlining the Pyramid Stage, Nicks says she watched Beyonce's performance at the festival in 2011 from her hotel room in London after her own slot at Hyde Park Calling that year.
"When we were there [in the UK] in 2011, I watched it. I watched Beyonce and it was pretty amazing! I had just got home from the Hyde Park thing, so I was just home from my own show and I turned on the TV and we had a pretty big screen in the hotel where we were, so I sat and watched like three hours, four hours of it, so would I love to do it? I’d Love to do it!"
Speaking about the band's forthcoming world tour, she added: "We are coming to the UK. It’s on there, the pre-schedule that they start sending out to you. We have basically 50 shows in the United States and then a little break, then It looks like we are coming to England to do, probably like seven or eight shows. I don’t know that for sure, but I think that’s what it will work out to be, and hopefully we will do other shows through Europe. I’m delighted to come over there, I’m thrilled about it."
When asked if one of those shows could be Glastonbury, Nicks replied: "Oh yeah! I hope, you know, I hope I hope!"
Previously, festival boss Emily Eavis admitted to NME that she would love to see Fleetwood Mac headline the Pyramid Stage in 2013. "I think Fleetwood Mac would be amazing to get," she said in October of this year. "I’ll be totally honest we haven’t had any conversations with them yet but, you know, it is still early days. We’re just talking to some headliners now. For us it’s about getting the balance of heritage bands, legends and new bands – just keeping that balance."

Something to consider....these "classic" artists can still move product if they want to! Bonnie Raitt just had her biggest hit in almost 20 years, and that was after no new material in 7 years, 3 albums that did pretty much nothing and a label that had lost interest a LONG time ago!
However, she didn't even BOTHER to shop around for a new label....she knew the interest in a 63 year old woman would be minimal at best! So she took matters into her own hands, started her own label and is having major success!
Has it been easy? Probably not. She's worked her ass off, setting things up months before SLIPSTREAM's release. And it's paid off!
Question is, does the band (and Stevie in particular.....I find it kind of odd that Stevie always said she would be rocking into her 70's..I think she's SERIOUSLY re-thinking that!!!) want to do the extra work at this point? I doubt it.

Stevie Nicks: the return of Fleetwood Mac
Caspar Llewellyn Smith
The Observer, Saturday 12 January 2013 18.48 EST
http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2013/jan/12/stevie-nicks-return-of-fleetwood-mac
Before I meet Stevie Nicks, I hear her. She is downstairs somewhere in the house she's renting on the beach in Malibu – a short drive, traffic allowing, up the Californian coastline from the two homes she owns in LA – and looking for her dark glasses. It's early evening in December and has long since turned dark outside, but if you're the ultimate rock goddess – NME's recent description, testament to an ongoing revaluation of interest in Fleetwood Mac among the younger generation – wearing shades at night goes with the territory.
Scented candles are spaced throughout the room and there's a well-thumbed copy of the first book in The Twilight Saga on a side table – signs that suggest that the 64-year-old singer is comfortably in residence. Plus there's her Yorkshire terrier, getting stuck continuously under my feet. But, as Nicks says, when all five feet one-and-a-half inches of her does emerge at the top of the stairs, she can't seem to settle.
In fact she shouldn't be here at all (and wasn't planning any interviews), but on holiday in the Florida Keys she was getting bitten to death by bugs and, besides, felt bored. Going home to either of her places in the city wasn't an option because right now she's "making a molecular change": parking her solo career, which saw her tour the world with her solo album In Your Dreams for the past two years, and getting ready for the return of the Mac.
Instead she asked to see if this place, which she'd rented previously, was available. "I'm trying to rest and it's really hard to rest because in either one of my own houses I feel like I should be working," she explains. "I've been coming here off and on for nearly 10 years and there's absolutely nothing for me to do except draw or sit and write poetry or bring the electric piano down." Problem is, "I've been here since Tuesday and I haven't managed yet to actually come up here at three in the afternoon and go sit on that miserable couch and draw for a few hours – because that's when I know I've made a change."
Despite the homely touches, the house looks perfectly nondescript from the outside, and it's modestly apportioned by the standards of LA rock aristocracy. But then Nicks doesn't play the diva either – kooky fan of fantasy, yes (her fondness for the oeuvre of Stephenie Meyer and liking for US fantasy TV series Game of Thrones fits right into that), but not the figure who insisted during Fleetwood Mac's Tusk tour that every hotel room she stayed in be painted pink and must house a white piano.
It is now 40 years since her first album, Buckingham Nicks – the fruit of her relationship, both musical and romantic, with Lindsey Buckingham – and life is coming full circle. Later this month, the most classic of all Fleetwood Mac albums, Rumours, gets the full reissue treatment, and the band will hit the road again for a US tour that will also likely come to Europe. (Of the rumours that they'll headline Glastonbury, Nicks is noncommittal, though she does say she'd love to do it.)
There is also the likelihood of the first new Fleetwood Mac record in 10 years – and even the prospect of a second Buckingham-Nicks album. For fans, this news is as exciting as it might sound improbable. Nicks once said herself that "to be in Fleetwood Mac is to live in a soap opera. And it has been pretty scandalous and incestuous…" And of all relationships, it's been that between her and Buckingham that has provided the richest story lines of all.
Born in ARIZONA, Nicks was in her senior year in high school in San Francisco when she first met the budding athlete a year younger than her. She already knew she wanted to be a songwriter – "I told my parents when I was 15 and a half" – and he was in the folk group Fritz that she then joined before they formed a duo. For their debut album sleeve he insisted she pose topless (half hidden behind him), even though she was in tears and told him: "This is not art… this is taking a nude photograph with you, and I don't dig it."
On New Year's Eve 1974, the pair joined Fleetwood Mac at the invitation of Mick Fleetwood, following the departure of late guitarist Bob Welch. The group's history was tortuous already, and the new arrivals introduced a new dynamic, with Nicks dressed in flowing chiffon and channeling the spirit of the "old Welsh witch" (her phrase) in her hit "Rhiannon". But the album on which that song appeared, the eponymous Fleetwood Mac, proved the band's breakthrough, hitting No 1 in the US and selling over 5m copies.
The recording of its follow-up, Rumours, saw the soap opera at its most lurid: Fleetwood had discovered that his wife was having an affair with his best friend; bassist John McVie and keyboard player and singer Christine McVie had split up after eight years of marriage, and Nicks and Buckingham's relationship kept hitting the rocks – all this played out in a blizzard of cocaine. "Christine and I refused to be the second-class citizens," says Nicks of the prosaic business of actually making the record. "But it was different for her, because she was one of the musicians – absolutely as big an influence as Lindsey or John or Mick; the four pieces were equal. I'd sit around and crochet or draw while they were out there working stuff out. And that's fine, because I wanted to be a lead singer – I didn't really want to carry around a 21lb Les Paul."
She is modest about her own songwriting abilities. Nicks contributed "Dreams" to Rumours (an upbeat song about splitting up directed at Buckingham), which became the group's only US No 1 hit single, while Buckingham was responsible for the evergreen "Go Your Own Way" (a venomous kiss-off directed back at her), but she insists that "Christine wrote most of the hits for the group – she was the major pop songwriter, not Lindsey or me."
"It's hard to do that," she continues. "I can't sit down and write a hit single and plan it, and no amount of listening to other people's records or music is going to make you a different songwriter." She's a fan of Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe "– "I walk around singing it all the time" – and would love to emulate it, but "I don't think that's really ever going to happen because I'm more Wuthering Heights, and Heathcliffe and Edward and Bella" – the characters from Twilight – "I'm more serious, dramatic… Shakespearean."
Nicks always thought she was supposed to be the person in the band who "spreads a little fairy dust here and there", and it was a painfully literal interpretation of that role that saw her succumb to addiction in the years that followed the huge success of Rumours and subsequent albums, such as Tusk. In 1986 she was admitted to the Betty Ford Clinic because of her coke habit, but then became hooked on the prescribed tranquilizer Klonopin for a further eight years. She had entered into a relationship with the Eagles' Don Henley and then dated Mick Fleetwood before briefly marrying Kim Anderson in 1983, the widowed husband of her close friend Robin Anderson, who had died of leukemia – an episode she has subsequently described as "insanity".
Now clean and sober, she also insists that she is happily single, but until not so very long ago the flame she carried for Buckingham still burned. There is, for instance, a song on In Your Dreams called "Everybody Loves You", co-written by her collaborator on the album Dave Stewart but based on one of 40 poems in her journals that she concedes is about Buckingham. "No one really knows you," Nicks sings. "I'm the only one." To one interviewer at the time the album was released she said she only admitted that their love affair was over when he had his first child with future wife Kristen Messner in 1998.
In February last year, Buckingham, Fleetwood and John McVie went into the studio to record a handful of new songs, but Nicks was in mourning for her 84-year-old mother Barbara, who died after a battle with pneumonia in late December 2011. "I couldn't do anything – I didn't leave my house, I didn't even talk to my really good friends," she says now. "I just went underground to try to deal with the fact that she wasn't supposed to go… she had emphysema after smoking for 60 years, but we all totally thought she was going to pull through. It was like: 'What? Did that really just happen?'"
In her absence from the studio, Buckingham said he'd try to look at things through her eyes – "and I said: 'Well, you probably can do that, Lindsey, you certainly know me well enough"' – then when she did make it there, there were two new songs waiting for her. "I put vocals on them and they came out great. And they really do sound like I was there." The result is likely to be a new Fleetwood Mac album at some point this year, but perhaps after that also a Buckingham Nicks record, because the pair also recorded an old song that was originally intended for their 1973 debut. "For some reason it just got swept under the carpet. I mean, maybe it was going to be track one on our second album, which we were actually making when we joined Fleetwood Mac."
Nicks isn't sure exactly how all this new material will manifest itself. "I don't know – I don't have a computer, I'm not on the internet, so I don't know how exactly the record company will decide on what to do," she says, slightly bafflingly. "But we do have product."
More important than this, though, was that Buckingham and Nicks were able to relax in each other's company. "We spent 80% of our time talking just like this, telling my assistant Karen all the crazy stories of everything that's happened to us from 1966 until now. We laughed and we laughed – and we probably cried a couple of times. It was very cathartic. And I think that we came a long way during those four days."
The result is that the band promise they won't just be going through the motions when they hit the road this year – unlike last time around. "I'm thinking," Nicks says, "that this is going to be a very different tour. The audience is going to see a very different Fleetwood Mac up there – we talked about how we really need to appreciate what we have and who we are and how far we've come. I said to Lindsey: 'I wish your mom and dad were still alive – they'd be just like: Way to go, Lindsey Buckingham! Boy, damn we're glad you dropped out of swimming – you know, he could have been a famous swimmer – We're so glad you stopped and went for rock'n'roll.'"
For sentimental fans, the highlight of any Fleetwood Mac show is still that point at which Buckingham and Nicks join hands together on stage: it's a very human moment, one that rekindles a sense of what's been and might be yet for all parties involved. Or as Nicks herself puts it: "People love to see people in love. Not that we're in love, but we have been in love and we have that on stage. And if we're getting along and we're happy with each other, that part comes out.
"I think we've got to a place now where we're both: 'Why not? Why can't we be those two people on stage?' It doesn't carry on after you walk down the stairs and go back to your hotels and rooms, it's never going to carry past that. But what it does do is allow you to walk up on stage and be dramatic with each other. And we have walked up on stage and been absolutely the other side of dramatic – we have been like waiting-for-a-bus undramatic. Like, you know: 'Lindsey, what am I going to get for room service later? I think I'm going to get a grilled cheese sandwich and some tomato soup.' Because that's what happens in bands if you're not happy. This is not going to be that tour."
If there is one regret, it's that Chris McVie won't be with the band, after quitting in 1998. "We all did everything we could do to try and talk her out of it," Nicks says, "but you look in someone's eyes and you can tell they're finished. It's like when somebody breaks up with you and says: 'We're done.'" Or, she helpfully points out: "As Taylor Swift would say: 'We are never ever getting back together ever!' That's what Chris was saying… But I'd beg, borrow and scrape together $5m and give it to her in cash if she would come back. That's how much I miss her.
"I miss her," she adds, "like flowers need the rain."
She might be dressed down and not wearing any make-up (the candlelight and shades help, she says), but Nicks is still a compelling presence. In an age of identikit pop stars, it's easy to see why artists such as Florence Welch idolise her. The odds of Nicks surviving might have been stacked against her, but she's where she is now to work, and there's no sign of stopping.
"I don't know how to explain it," she says, smiling in the half-light, "other than to say that you know when you're done."

Hahaha  she cracks me up! She also drives me nuts by listening to such crap music... Seriously, if I were her niece I'd straighten that out. I mean some Top 40 is okay now and then, but these days it's the alternative/indie bands that would have been the Top 40 say 35 years ago...
I hope she means what she says! I want drama too! I'm sooo excited for this tour if they're really going to put the effort into it! :blob2:

How would having a computer help her know what the record company is going to do with her new songs?
Lindsey could have been a famous swimmer, huh? Well, thank you for that. In all the alternate careers she could have had, I don't think she ever gave him one before. Now, I'm proud to know that he could have been Mark Spitz if he chose.
Yes, the idea of her talking to Lindsey about getting grilled cheese from room service (and that's not a dish I'd order from room service. It will congeal before it reaches your door) when they are waiting to go on stage is delightful. And I don't think that's how you talk when the tour is not happy. I just think that's how you talk when you are at work. I can tell you, the first thing I do when I get to work is think about what I'm having for lunch. In fact, I probably spend a good 15 minutes thinking about lunch, rather than doing whatever my task is for that day.
Stevie is hilarious. There's no doubt about that. Michele

I am fascinated still by how she is uncomfortable going home to her own homes sometimes.... does it remind her there is no family of her own there? It's just a very curious thing.
Michele, I thik you may be right-- Lindsey listened to her talk about what was so great for her about working with Dave and tried to recreate that experience.
I love how she says she'd beg borrow or steal the $5 million to get Chris back. As if after all these years she couldn't just write a check? I mean, if she doesn't have $5 million liquid across however many accounts by now, she should string up her management/accountants!!
I recall watching an interview with another of the legendary rock bands.. I *think* it was The Who when asked what they think about -- no, maybe it was Pink Floyd-- when doing the songs they've done over and over and over and over for umpteen decades...and they were honest enough to say they often are thinking about what they are going to have for dinner after the show.... I mean, when u think about it, performing those songs has become so over-learned and automatic it really doesn't require a lot of attention.. I recall Stevie talking about this in the 80s when she was just so burned out from doing too many back to back tours (FMac/solo/FMac/solo) and she said quite honestly, "you could be dead and still stand up there and do those songs"

I definitely think that's what Lindsey was going for, but he may not realize that no matter what he does Stevie might not be able to feel the ease with him and his family that she felt with Dave. I mean, I don't think he was describing John's feelings accurately at the time at all, but he used to keep saying how much freer John felt without Christine there and, similarly, when it comes to Stevie, I just can't imagine that being in your ex's house with his lovely family for four days will make you feel, "Gee, this is so much fun I just want to spend the next six months recording an entire album in the backyard."

 Haha yeah, their relationship makes me wish I studied psychology instead. They're a very interesting case. But of course she'd feel more at ease with Dave, like she always says, they don't have that history. I don't think that's a bad thing though. If Stevie and Lindsey started being all chummy and "Hey pal, want to hang out and watch a move?" I'd be very worried.

"The result is that the band promise they won't just be going through the motions when they hit the road this year – unlike last time around. "I'm thinking," Nicks says, "that this is going to be a very different tour. The audience is going to see a very different Fleetwood Mac up there"
Why oh why, every time a new tour happens, does the previous tour - which at the time they claim is fun/fresh/a celebration - get 'outed' as miserable/difficult?

Probably because when they're on tour, they don't want to tell you they're having a horrible time because why would anyone want to go see them if that was the case?
I think moreso the insinuation this time around has been that Unleashed just wasn't very fun or exciting - they did the same easy boring thing every night. She and Lindsey apparently weren't interested enough in each other to portray any tension or drama or affection. I think that's what she's getting at with the grilled cheese statement: that was the extent of their conversations. Nothing terribly emotional was going on either way (good or bad), it was very casual, which led to it being kind of a drag and just "going through the motions."

I don't think they are giving themselves enough time to rehearse a completely different show. It usually takes them 3 months to put together the same ole same ole and now she expects you to believe that in 2 months it'll be something new and exciting? Somewhere down the line I predict she will tell reporters that this and that didn't work well in rehearsals and there wasn't enough time, yadda yadda yadda. Another thing that has ALWAYS annoyed me about Stevie and Lindsey is every time they release a new album they claim it's the best they've ever done.

I think the men of FM and the entire backup band thoroughly enjoyed the Unleashed Tour. Stevie seems to be a hard cookie to please and she is the one complaining how fun it wasn't. Frankly this is something I will never, ever understand. How bad can it be traveling first class on a private plane, limo's to take you to the best hotel's in the world, thousands of people falling at your feet in adoration and singing your favorite songs onstage every night? It's exhausting, because she has found so many things to complain about her entire career.
Sometimes I wish she would be forced to travel with an up and coming band for a year to plant her feet back in reality. I'm sure she might then appreciate how good she's got it. Rant over.

It is frustrating as all get out - I feel just as frustrated about their attitudes on albums. In some recent interview Stevie had said something to the effect that her feelings were hurt by those not wanting to hear Dreams and other hits. Well you know what Stevie, you hurt my feelings by dissing SYW. I happen to like the album quite a lot :p :xoxo:
I'm also quite nervous by what "a very different Fleetwood Mac" means... It could be very good, but that phrasing makes me uneasy for some reason. Don't go a changin (too much) to try to please me! (Stevie has put me in a lyrical mood ;))

They need to get their butts in gear! Hopefully they will begin sometime this month and not wait till February.
I feel the same about how they both think whatever is the latest is the greatest. Especially her comments about IYD being her best record...I love it a lot! But again, I think those comments have more to do with her being happier now (hopefully) than she was when making Bella Donna. She also said Lindsey's SWS was some his best or the best, I can't recall. These drama queens and their hyperbole. ;)

I think it's enough to time to rehearse whatever they decide they want to play. When Stevie did her Wiltern show, she included eight IYD songs, and with the Rod tour, press and publicity for the album's release, and having pneumonia, she couldn't have had that much time to put the show together.

I don't see where she suggests any such thing about Unleashed. She does make it sound like they may be a little more inspired for this tour, which hopefully is going to translate into some new songs in the setlist, but I didn't get the feeling that the last tour was miserable. Even the "going through the motions" comment was the writer's, not hers.

Ugggh this topic of SN being "bored" with Unleashed and going through the motions has me in an upset.
Yes I saw Unleashed, and I agree, Stevie was not all present except for SB and GDW, even Storms was a delight, but a somber misstep.
I've come to expect a FM tour to be all Mc/Vie and LB with Stevie as a back-up/harmony player. That is fine with me if the rest of the band put on a hell of a show. (lowered expectations? I guess). But I knew what I was getting myself into when I bought the tix.
My frustration stems from Stevie (in interviews) always gong-ho and talking the tour up as an amazing "never before seen performance" and then gets on stage to perform just so-so.
If she's going to promise the goods, she better back it up.
She is still capable of delivering the goods (via her last cpl of tours and Soundstage). My advice to SN: put the $ where your mouth is, or just shut up in interviews.
Sorry for my lil rant. Just had to get that out.

Those are the rules..... you hype the hell out of whatever endeavor you are selling-- be it tour, album, etc. it's "fabulous" "the most exciting thing we've ever done" "the best we've ever done" "like nothing we've ever done before" blah blah blah. It doesn't matter who the band or artist is, it's just the expected thing you must say. The trick is to not get suckered into believing it everytime they come out and say it. Who knows what the next tour will be like, but you can count on one thing-- they sure as hell aren't going to tell you upfront!

Another thing that has ALWAYS annoyed me about Stevie and Lindsey is every time they release a new album they claim it's the best they've ever done.
And I hate when artists -- not just FM, but others too -- try to promote an album by likening it to an iconic one. "I never felt this way about an album since Rumours." I got the same chills I did when recording Thriller. Well, good for you. Put on a sweater, this ain't Thriller.
To be fair, I don't think anyone (Stevie, Lindsey or other band members) ever said Mirage, Tango, BTM or Time was the best thing they'd ever done. Also for UTS Lindsey kind of apologized like he knew that people might pick it up and not get what they expected, so he kept emphasizing it was different and something he'd been playing around a lot with lately, rather than that it was the best.

There's a new Stevie interview about the tour. Interesting, but as usual, there is always some mistake from the ignorant reporters. In this case they mention a 1974 picture when it's more than obvious from the Rumours photo sessions.
Stevie Nicks: the return of Fleetwood Mac (http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2013/jan/12/stevie-nicks-return-of-fleetwood-mac?CMP=twt_gu)
Beautiful last words:

This is a shot of them (below) I don't see often. Christine's nose looks bulbous.
Why do you think that Stevie settled on $5 million as the proper payment for Christine? Is that the amount they would have to give up collectively if Christine returned and things were split 5 ways instead of 4?
Where'd Stevie get that figure?

I suspect she probably pulled that out of the air. I'm sure Christine has left multiples of $5 million on the table by staying in retirement. Some years ago I read that ABBA was offered $1 billion to do a reunion tour. I mean... how could you not do it? There are much harder ways to make a living!

http://www.etonline.com/music/129607_Fleetwood_Mac_Interview_Stevie_Nicks_on_the_Influence_of_Her_Mother_s_Passing_on_the_Band/
After over four decades together, Fleetwood Mac is still thriving. The band is re-releasing their album Rumours and will soon be embarking on a newly expanded North American tour. Despite bumps along the way, lead singer Stevie Nicks partially credits the band's recent reconnection to her mother's passing.
Fleetwood Mac has been on many hiatuses throughout the years, which the band says has become an almost necessary cyclical process for them to break off and embark on solo endeavors amid spurts of recording and touring together.
A few years after the band wrapped its Unleashed tour, it is back together for another tour, which Nicks mainly credits to the passing of her mother, Barbara, in late 2011.
"My mom passed away a year and two months ago, so Lindsey (Buckingham, guitarist) and I have talked a lot about that," Nicks said in a sit-down with Buckingham and drummer Mick Fleetwood (bassist John McVie was not present).
"She was the last of the Old Guard, so it's been a little bit shocking for all of us, but I think in a strange sort of way it's kind of really reconnected us in a way because we miss her and we wish she wasn't gone. She loved Lindsey and she loved Mick, and she loved me. ...Losing Barbara has really, I think, brought us back together in a lot of ways."
While they've recently joined back together for the Fleetwood Mac Live 2013 tour--which was recently extended an additional twelve shows due to the high volume of demand for the shows-- Nicks, who has maintained a steady solo career over the years, divulged that it's only natural that the band will be on hiatus once again.
"It is like a marriage and if you're together 24 hours a day every single day, no matter how much you care about somebody, you need a break," she said. "So, we take that three-year break and it seems to work really beautifully for us."
In addition to the band's 2013 tour, it is also re-releasing its 1977 album Rumours, which has become one of the best-selling albums of all time with an astonishing 40 million estimated records sold. The reissued album will feature live recordings and previously unreleased music.
Watch the video to hear the band talk about the re-released edition of Rumours, which will be available January 29.

Exactly. I think he thinks most of the things she says is nonsense. The Without you not being on BuckinghamNicks thing, JUSTIN BIEBER, the three year gap...knowing him i think he even disagrees on the worst tour memory. Lindsey would have played Rumours the night after that.

Also, I cannot tell you how much I love that Stevie admits that younger people appreciate their music! Hello! Me down here! Yes Stevie! My parents did teach me well! And that also means I will buy your records! Full records! With 12, 18, 20 songs! :p
And yeah, I bet Lindsey is sick of Bieber if his daughters like him - best to leave no comment haha. I don't blame Lindsey, I'd grow weary of that kid after the first few listens. He did seem to be in a bit of a funk though. Although, Stevie is always the more talkative one during interviews.

I'm really curious as to how Without You will turn out. I wonder what the arrangement will be like. Will it be completely different? Will it be in the same key? Will they have flip-flopped parts so that Lindsey is singing the high harmony and Stevie's got the low one?
I have a feeling the switching of the low and high parts may occur, but idc! I'm just sooo happy they recorded this officially!

Honestly, John is going to have to take pay deductions if he is not going to do any interviews.
That's hilarious how John kept coming over and giving Mick a tally of how much money he earned during the concert, but really John's head is never on the same level as Mick's during a show. So, what did he do? Shout it over the drum kit?
Lindsey's oldest girl used to love Justin Bieber, I wonder if either of them still do.
Those guys certainly looked tan, compared to Stevie in the middle.
I'll be glad to see Lindsey's leather jacket go for this tour. I don't know what color shirt he's going to wear, but just getting rid of the jacket will be a plus.

Stevie talks about staying active & never stopping being one of the reasons they can still go out and play and not collapse on stage etc. They talk about the setlist. Mick says he's putting them on the spot but he wants a big component of the show to be highlighting Lindsey & Stevie somehow, whether that's an old song they've never played with FM before (WITHOUT YOU?!!?) or a cover (CALIFORNIA DREAMING?!?)..
Lindsey: "One of the things that I have noticed about Stevie and myself - and we've known each other since we were 16 and 17 - is that we are still somehow inventing new dynamics within the two of us. We are still discovering things about each other. Perhaps we are still getting back to things we once had... It makes it very sweet that after all these years we can perhaps now start to address some of the love that has always been there and some of the things that we have shared. Not just Stevie and me, but all of us together.. but certainly Stevie and me have been through things together that no one else has been through. It's nice to be able to acknowledge that and share that."
And then this one mostly talking about the setlist and what they will play.

It's kind of disappointing to hear them say that they still don't have a clue what will be in the setlist, besides 2/3 of the same old songs, with the other 1/3 being comprised of "color" that will hopefully make this tour different from SYW and Unleashed.
Logically, I knew they still had to rehearse, play around with song arrangements and have songs thrown out, but listening to interviews I had it in my mind I imagined hints and I started concluding that there were certain things they WERE going to do this time and it had already been decided and to have it confirmed that nothing has been decided gave me a sharp reality check.

Stevie got a muscle spasm from her EAR down to her waist when she carried a guitar? Hmmm. Well, I guess she means her neck area.
I don't know, but if I was a body language expert, the way Stevie looked at Lindsey when Mick said that John's been sailing with his wife, I'd suspect that John wasn't with his wife.

Haha yay! New weird story from Stevie about a neck spasm! I live for this stuff
I think Mick just said John was "too busy sailing or something in Hawaii" - I didn't hear him say wife. I just took her glance as a knowing look, the "that's John for you" smile.
I hope everyone is staying healthy, Stevie seemed to be clearing her throat often. Lindsey is making me nervous with how quiet he's being. What is up? They were really lighthearted during last tour's interviews. But I'm sure there is more to come. Maybe they're having an off day. Everyone's entitled to an off day or two.
Also, I'm dying with this 3 years thing. They have never done a three year gap enough times to make it a pattern lol. I mean after The Dance, that was like what even rounding the tour into 98...they didn't tour again till 2003. 5 years. Then the 09 tour, another 5 years about. Even from the start they never had a 3 year gap haha. It was every 2 years an album, then touring. Then 5 years after Mirage. I love her dearly, but she needs to stop. I guess I can't begrudge her for one of her talking points, like Lindsey's speeches on cycles and looking out for love :p

just fyi in the case you want to see more - these and some other vids from the same session yesterday are in this long long thread in the Rumours forum - starting somewhere around this page http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=51072&page=28
we probably should have made a separate thread for video interviews...
Anyone realized or mention that the background track in that interview is probably Sad Angel?
good call - possible!
Exactly. I think he thinks most of the things she says is nonsense. The Without you not being on BuckinghamNicks thing, JUSTIN BIEBER, the three year gap...knowing him i think he even disagrees on the worst tour memory. Lindsey would have played Rumours the night after that.
:laugh: he definitely looks like he's trying really hard not to say what he really thinks about all that. and i bet he was happy that he didn't have to provide any Bieber opinions. ;)
you are probably right about LB not caring whether audiences didn't want to hear their new songs first time they heard it, he'd play them again next day regardless. he's probably thinking "i wish Mick and Stevie didn't draw that conclusion" :D

lol. even if the question is obvioously not directed to her, she still takes it ;) (remember those IYD movie premieres with DS?)! example - "some of you have families and young kids - how do you balance that with touring?" Stevie responds - yeah these guys have families, i just have a dog, so it just makes sense that i respond to this question and don't let them talk ;)
(although at least her response to that question was somewhat funny, unlike some of her other meandering reponses. sadly, however amusing ultrafans may find these, honestly they all mostly just came accross as a boring ole bunch during this press conference or whatever that was :( )

01/24/2013 by Nichole Hamilton, ON THE RED CARPET
Fleetwood Mac members Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood talked to OTRC.com about their upcoming 2013 tour, and how they've managed to maintain their fan following for so long.
"You can't really stop," Nicks told OTRC.com on January 24. "I have a friend, Doug Morris, who said to me once, 'when you retire, you just get small.' And I think that's really true - I love that. So, you can't just go on a three year vacation, because when you come back, it won't be there. And that's why a lot of the big bands that still try to play, and they don't play for eight or nine years, and then they try to play - they're not good anymore."
"You know, we are athletes, and you have to keep it going," she continued. "But the great thing is, that when you have to keep it going, it helps you stay young, it makes you stay vibrant - we're in a wonderful, mysterious, crazy band, so we get to stay young because of this. This is like a magical mystery carpet that we get to get on, but we don't get off of the carpet very often. And I think that's probably why people really enjoy us on stage, it's because they know this is what we do, we love it, and we do our best to be great."
In December 2012, it was announced that the veteran rock band would be embarking on a worldwide tour following their 3-year hiatus.
The Grammy-award winning group, known for hit songs such as "Dreams" and "Landslide," announced that the tour would start in Columbus, Ohio on April 4th, and wrap in Detroit on June 12. The tour marks the first for the band since 2009.
Nicks went on to say that while rehearsals are slated to start in February, the group is still debating on what the official set list will be.
"We're all just thinking now, and going over in our heads what, you know, which songs," Nicks said. "Because, there are those specific 10 songs, 12 songs, whatever, that you play because you - because the audience really wants to hear them, and because they are the foundation of the band, and because they are the reason we all have really nice houses. So, those are there. But beyond that, we have the other songs to play with, so it's really fun, but we don't really know yet because we haven't started, so it's really mysterious."
In August 2011, Nicks toured the United States in support of her seventh studio album, "In Your Dreams," which was her first solo record in 10 years. Fleetwood Mac's last studio album was the 2003 record, "Say You Will."
Fleetwood Mac guitarist and male lead singer Buckingham has also embarked on his own solo career, having released nine studio albums since 1981. The veteran guitarist, who once shared a romantic relationship with Nicks, explained how the close, songwriting pair are rediscovering their bond.
"We are still somehow inventing new dynamics within the two of us," Buckingham explained of his friendship with Nicks. "We are still discovering things about each other. Perhaps we are still getting back to things we once had ... It just makes it very sweet, that after all these years, we can perhaps now we can really start to address some of the love that's always been there, and some of the things that we have shared."
Check out all of Fleetwood Mac's 2013 tour dates here. Tickets officially went on sale December 14, 2013.
"I think [we're] incredibly blessed ... lucky," Fleetwood Mac member Fleetwood said. "But we've really worked hard too. I think it's fair to say that we've enjoyed for the most part working really hard - thats also in the mix."

I love how Stevie needs no definition by the writer, LB is the male lead singer and Mick is just a "member' of Fleetwood Mac. Bias much?

They were on Extra again. Mostly Stevie and Lindsey holding hands and talking about their breakup. They flashed a pic of Kristen too.
Edit: I just remembered they asked Stevie if she knew how Sheryl Crow was doing with all the Lance stuff and she commented saying she knew he wasn't the right one for her. Or something of that persuasion.

^Stevie knowing Sheryl and Lance weren't going to work out .
Lindsey didn't have to throw SHN in there as a song that they have to sing. Don't get me wrong. It wasn't on the Dance tv special and so when it ended up on the tour I was THRILLED. Love it. Love the energy. But don't flatter yourself, Linds.

I don't think it's exactly a balanced question, because Lindsey might not even like cheese! Alex was leading the witness!
lol. that occurred to me also ;)

i know lol. i was actually pleasantly surprised - and amused! - that unlike usually when he mostly lists SN and some CM songs, he was actually listing some of his own songs after Stevie said GYOW - SHN, NGBA. :D
and SHN has actually been one of the most played FM songs classic rock stations in my area... plus of course there's always Morning Joe. so i'd agree they have to do that one. :D

I love these new videos, but for some reason I can't help feeling a bit voyeuristic watching them.
It's like I'm eavesdropping on a group therapy session or something .

anyone else notice how Lindsey's eyes snapped up to attention as soon as Jerry, the interviewer, said "Lindsey, you told me blah blah about you and Stevie...." Like he was bracing for whatever he might have to defend having said... LOL
Once again, very little of Mick..

They're in so unnatural a setting that I don't feel that way. There were moments during DR that I did feel that way.

I think Tusk is more of a must play than SHN. I think the set needs SHN though. Both SHN and IKINW have great action. They get both the band and the audience bouncing. I just don't think many casual fans would leave the venue saying, "Why didn't they play Second Hand News?"

I saw that, I got a good chuckle from it.
I also noticed that Lindsey seemed a bit more lively in this interview. In a lot of the others he had a very stoic expression on but throughout this even when he wasn't talking, he was smirking to himself and generally emoting. Maybe this one was earlier in the day

I wish these things weren't so heavily edited. You can tell it's sliced and diced because their hand holding is all over the place. And I think that is also what is making these interviews seem so unbalanced.
There must be tons of unseen footage from interviews over the years. DR alone is what 498 hours of never seen stuff, right?

I am loving all of these video interviews we are getting. it seems like there weren't as many in 2009 or at least with them all being interview together. Also Stevie putting her 2 cents in about Sheryls relationship was very revealing.

I know, but she had to say something, right? Sometimes I blame the interviewer more. Why ask about that? Just because Lance is the trending gossip, and the interviewer knows that Stevie and Sheryl are friends? Although, I suppose it's not as silly as asking Stevie to weigh in on the Nicki Minaj/Mariah Carey spat. I mean, really? That's what you want to ask Stevie Nicks?

Yes, and how did Justin Bieber's name ever come up? They could be Justin's grandparents!
It's just that Sheryl and Lance haven't been a couple in years. So, I agree with you that it was particularly stupid for the interviewer to ask how Sheryl is holding up. It's bad enough they're still asking Stevie about HER long ago ex-lovers. Now, they're asking her about Sheryl's. But Stevie claiming clairvoyance about the failure of that relationship so long after the fact strikes me as silly. It's like saying she knew the Titanic would sink. "I said, 'that's a real big ice berg.'" And given the egos involved on both sides, with Lance and Sheryl Crow, no one thought it would last. It's not just keen Stevie intuition. Michele

Gosh that last video was a bit more heavy - I don't feel voyeuristic, but yes a bit uncomfortable. They have a very interesting, sweet relationship.
The way she words things cracks me up though. I understand what she meant by this to an extent, but Stevie said something about how Lindsey has his wife and children - that they are her's too now? "I get them also." Oy she is too much lol. She makes me a bit sad though these days, especially with her mom gone. I'm glad it has brought them closer, but yeah... it's probably more bittersweet than ever right now. I know she has lots of people who love her, but at the end of the day I'm sure it is quite lonely. She said so herself during one of the IYD Q&As.

It's nice that she feels like she has a little bit of family in Lindsey's family. I think that's what she meant anyway
But I agree with you - for some reason I felt slightly uncomfortable. It's all very sweet of course, I guess I'm not used to them talking about this kind of stuff while they are right next to each other.

You know what, I think that might be it. If they had said all that in separate interviews I wouldn't have been thrown at all. I think the fact that they're both right there saying these things while holding hands is what makes it different.

In reality, very little (if any) of what they are saying is new lol. We've heard versions of all of this before. It's just usually said while the other isn't around
