I agree 110 percent what Stevie said.Yes nobody in the last 20 years will never fill the shoes of these artists.
This reminds me of the old classic country tune from George Jones.
"Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes"

Just listen to the words. This tune could be for all music types .This song makes me tear.

Barry Gibb put a video up on his website with footage showcasing Robin, but really of all of them. Background music was "Heart Like Mine". Yeah, I didn't shed a few pretty tears, it was more the blotchy face, nose full of mucus, type sobbing.

I would have been cool if she posted it at her website.
Not only about Robin but Donna also.

I'm guessing she must be referring to the earlier passing of Etta James when mentioning "the soundtrack to my wonder years".Both Robin and Donna were younger than Stevie.

The Bee Gees had hit songs in the late 1960's(I think?).

That they did but I always thought of the wonder years as pre-puberty.Stevie was 18 in 1966.

It does seem like its the end of an ERA. I was a kid in the 70s, but the Bee Gees and Donna Summer were soo hot. Sometimes I forget how long ago that actually was and I don't think of these people as being old.

I don't believe either of them died of old age.The Gibb brothers in particular seem to have had some really bad luck healthwise. It is the oldest brother who is the only survivor and even their mom is still alive.

Yes indeed. They started in the early 60's then in the 1970's turn to disco with 1975 hit "Jive Talkin'" and a big killing with Saturday Night Fever and the rest is history.

Not sure about Robin but Maurice had a serious drinking problem several years. For that reason, as Barry and Robin told in an interview, he couldn't even join his brothers to collaborate on Barbra's Guilty album. So I wouldn't blame on luck.
Fortunately it seems the excesses from the past has no paying its toll to Stevie now, in that way as to the Gibbs. Or so I hope.

I laugh when I think of Guilty because Barry was all over that album. It was like a total duet. It was a spectacular record, but oh my goodness. If Dave had done that much bogarting with Stevie, I would have been disgusted. I still don't know what that horse thought it was doing on the cover. If Dave had been as presumptuous . . .
I know the Gibb brothers wrote for a lot of people, but I didn't know that Islands in the Stream was theirs too. Hard to think of them dead. I get chills because you build up all these memories with your siblings and it must hurt so much to be the last one standing. One Gee. If there's no one there who shared it with you, did it really happen?

I'm sure it was. Streisand being Streisand, no one is going to tell her what to do.
Similarly, I'm sure the horse didn't put his hoof down and give Stevie an ultimatum about being on the album cover. She probably readily agreed when he asked her.

Although, equine have tried to kill Stevie in the past, so she might have felt pressured and intimidated.

I was also referring to the youngest Gibb brother's death Andy at only 30 and yes I know he did enormous amounts of blow..As for Stevie she just has better genetics I guess. I doubt Andy outdid her and she also smoked around 3 packs a day for about 14 years and drank quite a bit too.Keith Richards,Eric Clapton and Mick Fleetwood are still alive and kicking as well so go figure.

I know this won't happen, but it would be nice if Lindsey mentioned Jive Talkin' before or after SHN.
As for Robin, I just don't understand the cancer. Was he not getting colonoscopies? I'm not sure there's a correlation, but based on my own family history, I think if colon problems (like diverticulitis, IBS or obstructions) run in your family, you seem more likely to develop colon cancer. After Mo died, I'd think Robin would have been having his colon checked so regularly that polyps would be removed while still precancerous and any cancer would be detected at its earliest stage, not after it had mestastized to the liver.
Like his twin, Robin could have died from the intestinal problems alone, but the cancer treatment on top of it really ripped away any strength or resistance his body might otherwise have had.

Oh yes it was the period they try to "hide" for a while until the SNF effect was over. People were so oversaturated about Bee Gees and the fever that they were hated a lot (!).
When I learne Islands was a Gibb song, I was so surprised, like when I learned Nothing compares to you was written by Prince.

Andy Gibb had severe mental/emotional issues along with his drug habit; Stevie's emotional issues were not that dire. She is very strong-willed, and had strong support among friends and family. Andy was more fragile, and clearly took his habit to a different level. I don't believe that Stevie ever smoked three packs a day. any day, especially for 14 years. (more likely perhaps three cigs a day, sporadically over a span of several years) Where did that "fact" come from? It wouldn't surprise me if it came from Stevie herself. But take in to account that Stevie is prone to hyperbole - exaggeration for dramatic effect. "Sometimes she was just an actress..."

Andy was talented like his brothers. The breakup with Victoria Principal did not help him.He was a great tv host for Solid Gold.

They were prolific. With those high voices, you might get tired of them after awhile, but the fact that other people could sing their songs to just as great an effect tells the story of their talent.
The video Barry has up of his brother shows him at his last public appearance givng the thumbs up sign and the camera pulls back so you just see Robin's thumb pointing up in the crowd. I thought it so beautiful. And Barry ends it by saying "Bodding 1949-2012," which is what Maurice used to call his twin.
Of course, our stupid guys would never even pay someone to update their website if one of them passed away. I mean one of the 5. Two of the 16 already have.

Did you ever think you'd be talking about Robin Gibb's colon? Sorry, I digress...

Sorry, but every single person in the band was a very heavy smoker for years. It was "part of the culture." I doubt there were too many people in their circle who weren't chain-smokers. We're talking a rock band in the 1970s and 1980s in California here, I wouldn't be surprised if they all had a cigarette going more often than not.
Yeah, I loved the Bee Gees. I still have the original Saturday Night Fever album (played the you know what out of it) & loved the movie. It's just sad about Robin's passing & Maurice's passing for the matter. I also loved Andy Gibb, had a few of his albums. I remember being really shocked about his death. I thought though that they had a sister, Lesley. Isn't she still alive?

Yes, the press said she's still alive and their mother is too. I don't know how healthy their mom is, but she was able to travel from Australia to be closer to him. It makes me sad.
Glad Chris Nicks pulled through. I mean we all get to a point when our family dies out and we're the last one, but hopefully it happens in our seventies and eighties, not sooner.
