Okay. So I have been wondering about a couple of things in the Stevie/FM universe and I'm hoping that maybe you guys can help me....
First of all, there is this footage of Lindsey and Stevie I have seen in several documentaries and interviews. They are sitting around a table I think...very casual. Stevie almost has brownish hair and is wearing either a tank top or a bikini, I'm not sure which. It seems to be a home movie or something and I have seen it mentioned whenever they mention Buckingham Nicks first joining the band. That's also the era it seems to be from. Does anyone know the name of the footage where it was originally from and is it available anywhere?? Also in relation to that, I have seen footage where they are on a boat or something and Stevie is wearing a fur coat...this also looks to be from the early years as well! All I have seen of these is the movie while someone talks in the background and I'm wondering what they are from. Does anyone know??
OK second of all...what about Lindsey and Stevie. I know about their "official" relationship. But did they ever get back together after that and are there any "rumours" (pun intended :p) about them hooking up later on in Fleetwood Mac. I have always wondered about this because their chemistry onstage is incredible and I personally want them to be together . If anyone has any info I would be glad to know as much as possible. Thanks :D

The first one sounds like a clip from Mick Fleetwood's DVD either called "Two Stick And A Drum" or "The Mick Fleetwood Story", it's from right after the "Fleetwood Mac" album was released in 1975. The DVD has a lot of cool FM footage, I think it's still available. The second one is a clip from when FM was in Holland mid-april 1977 on the Rumours tour, the footage was used in a BBC documentary on FM from 2009, it was called "Don't Stop", I believe the whole thing is on Youtube.

I seriously doubt it. There are people who are convinced that they had an affair during The Dance tour, and still others believe that they're still in love and will get back together one day. Which I think is ridiculous. They broke up 35 years ago, and have gone for long stretches of that time without seeing or speaking to each other. Honestly, I think they're relationship is completely professional and all the lovey dovey stuff they do on stage is totally playing to the crowd. I'd be surprised if they socialize much at all when they're not working together.
I have similar thoughts about Stevie's relationship with Christine. I think they were probably close from about 1975-1978, but didn't have much of anything to do with one another after that outside of FM. I'm sure they're genuinely friendly when they see each other, but I'm betting the only times Stevie has seen Christine since 1998 were the two times CM came to see the band in England.

Thank you Sanne!! I'll have to get those! I love seeing "candid" footage of the Fleetwood Mac members :)!
And ok, I guess I can see where your coming from. I'm just wondering if maybe they may have hooked up or something on a tour in the late 70s early 80s...when neither of them were really "seriously" attached. I guess I am just a romantic at heart who longs for some kind of happy ending between those two. Even if it is just a friendship. I mean they have to have some kind of good friendship going because Stevie did ask Lindsey to sing "Soldier's Angel" with her on the album. Ok way too much speculation going on right now! lol

Oh, you're not alone in wondering. Like Markolas, I do NOT believe they are still in love and/or in any sort of romantic or sexual relationship. I'm not sure about The Dance - I think there may have been something re-starting. But I'm quite sure they probably banged here & there in the late 70's/early 80's. :p

They weren't in love anymore back then and kept banging away, so why not now?

Because he's now married with three children? Because when no one involved is abusing drugs, those mistakes are far less likely? Because sexagenarians generally have more control over their sex drives than coked out 30-year-old rock stars?:sorry:
Eh, I fully expect they had occasional hook-ups through the early 80's and there's little doubt in my mind that love (or something like it) was in the air in '97. Now, though? I tend to doubt it.
They are, by all accounts, in a good place right now, but I don't think there's been anything nefarious in a long while.
Side note: few phrases squick me out the way "making love" does. I'm all for sticking to "banging."

Married with children rarely changes the sexual habits of male rock stars. :sorry: and having sex with married men never stopped Stevie before. :D

^No, but maturity might. I don't think you can compare behaviors of someone when they're 20something vs. 60something & assume they're the same.

Agreed. I think it was a different story when they were young & hot & high & it was all so glamorous & life was a party; plus their breakup was still fresh/recent at that time. I also think he probably comforted her (in more ways than one wink wink) when Robin was ill.
'97 - it never occured to me that they were together, but then I heard Thrown Down was written about that era. I've also convinced myself that You May Be the ONe is also about that time (I interpret the angry words/birds flying across the ocean as LB telling Stevie he was married or getting married, or her hearing about the marriage, or her hearing that K was pregnant.) I'm still not totally convinced that SN & LB were an item in '97, and perhaps it was more wishful thinking on her part. But I think it's def. possible.
Now? No. I just don't get that impression. At all. I think they are good friends, but the sexual passion is long gone. I agree that their stage act is just an act now. I mean, I'm sure there's always some emotion & feeling there, but do they get hot & horny for eachother? Sorry, I just don't see it.

I think that it would be impossible, though, with all of their history and baggage, for them to happily carry on a bandmates-with-benefits relationship.
To romanticize it all a bit (keep the excitement alive for GoldDustWoman22?;)) shall we look at some lyrics? I'm open to the idea that they're still drawn to certain aspects of each other--they have, after all, shared a lot of life. I just think any feelings have gone unfulfilled for a decade or so. Anyway...
I have no way of knowing, of course, but I get a very Stevie vibe from "Stars"--
"I wake up in the middle of the night
With you in my heart
With you in my heart
I can't touch you anymore
It causes you harm"
And then there's Everybody Loves You (which we know is about Lindsey)--
"We cause each other such pain
Everywhere we go now
At home or on stage"
"Don’t come here again
Unless fear of fire leaves you cold"
If "Stars" is about Stevie, they sound to me like two people who know each other and themselves well enough to realize that a relationship couldn't work, given their current situations.
I really don't think they could be in a good place right now if they were in any way involved. Love and hate often went hand-in-hand for them (just ask Ken C.), and know they've found some peace. They may still write and think about each other occasionally, but the on stage flirtation is just for show and I don't think it crosses into their off-stage lives.

mezzoforte - thank you for keeping the romanticism alive...it is greatly appreciated. ;)
Ok. So here's a bit of what I think. I do believe that they may have succumbed to each other occasionally back in the day. There was some definite chemistry going on onstage and they were never really able to live without each other after their breakup. This must have made it seemingly impossible for them to move on. And I do believe all the reports that when they were dating they were pretty much "married" so I don't think their relationship was just another relationship to either of them. And it must have been difficult having to see each other day after day! So the feelings between them built up and either escalated in serious fights or "making love" ;). To me that makes sense. It never really ended between them for awhile. Now I don't really know that much about the dance tour but I did see one interview with them on youtube where Lindsey kept on spontaneously kissing Stevie's head. So I'm guessing that with the almost 10 year break between "Tango" and "The Dance" the old feelings could have resurfaced. Whether it was just a mutual "respect" courtship type thing or an actual physical relationship I honestly can't say. But I think there was a rekindling of something. Whether it was friendship or romantic. Especially since she wrote a song about Lindsey for the SYW album that was about "The Dance" tour. So SOMETHING must have gone down.
Ok one more thing. I know many of you say that their interaction on stage is staged and just for performance value. But why would they keep writing songs about the other one even to this day. They obviously consider each other important not only to their musical careers but their personal ones as well. I'm not trying to say that what I'm saying is right. I just think that they do have genuine, intense feelings for each other. Whether they are still romantic or not I have no clue. But I think they do care about each other still?
Btw. here is the youtube video in case you want to watch it
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGBji-8-3jo
The interview is really great anyways. But Stevie acting all coquettish is adorable to watch. Lindsey is also really cute when he's affectionate;). Ok I'll stop gushing

^ Oh I think there will always be feeings there. But more of a wistful "what could have been" or "if only..." than a "I'm still passionately in love with you" or "I'm hot for you!" I don't think their affection for eachother is faked, but the stage show? Is a show. It's the same sh*t every show (I realized this & my mild shipping came to an end after seeing 5 shows on the SYW tour.)

Why are they only flirting for show now? They are an established supergroup. Why bother now? Why not before when they had to battle constant rumors of the group's demise after these two were already broken up, going solo, yet were still banging? :sorry: I don't get it.
If Lindsey and Stevie wrote those lyrics in the last ten years I could agree with your speculation. I seriously doubt any are more recent than the early 1990s. But if their words do refer to recent events and reflect their current mindset, can somebody explain this:
And then there's Everybody Loves You (which we know is about Lindsey)--

Yes "Everybody Loves You" was definitely on my mind when I was thinking about recent songs that have been written about their relationship . All of what has been said makes total sense. And I can agree with the fact that there is love there. It seems to be foolish to say that there is absolutely NOTHING there. But as for the passion thing...could there be a different sort of passion then "I wanna jump your bones right now" kinda thing (weird expression I know :o) But maybe they do get into the moment when they are performing. Like I am sure that there are parts (maybe even a lot of them) are rehearsed and done night after night. But regardless, they do have a musical chemistry that can't be denied! So I'm sure there are moments onstage when they feel that and there is a magical moment that the audience feels too. I don't know, I guess it's because I've never seen them live before and a part is hoping that when I do, there's going to be some spontaneity in the performance.

ITA, but I do really think that Stevie & Lindsey were ever so close to getting back @ the time of The Dance. Stevie's song My Heart is about this I'm sure. I swear everytime I listen to it, it reminds me of this time. Now though, that ship has sailed. It is all a stage act. She has said so herself in various interviews.

The thing that bothers me most about the whole "it's just an act" theory is it is based on the thought of "oh, they do that every night" so there can't be any emotion behind whatever they do onstage. What? Don't you hug or kiss your loved ones in an offhanded way? Doesn't it become routine? Does that mean you've "lost that loving feeling"? No. And, I agree with Mr. Stevie - there was no reason for SnL to play up a love affair or lost love affair in 1997 forward. In fact, it seems like they would want to downplay it. Partners in crime, indeed. Know what they're doing, for sure. No emotion or love or even a kind of passion - no way.

Ha, but that's an old lyric. Many of Stevie's SYW songs had to do with The Dance. So, I wouldn't say that line supports a current relationship.

What I think happens on stage is that there are spontaneous moments and they work so well between Lindsey and Stevie and are received so well by the audience that they then repeat the moments that were once spontaneous. That's why their interaction develops a lot from the first show (and for the Unleashed premier they weren't connecting much in that first show at all) to the last.
That's also why I like to see the "same" show over and over again, because I enjoy watching the evolution. For the SYW tour, they started doing this thing where they go back to back at the end of Don't Stop. They weren't doing this at the beginning of the tour when I saw them in Illinois. When I saw it in Reno, I was really surprised. There must have been one night when he unexpectedly buried his face in her hair and that felt right to both of them, so they tried to recreate that moment in future shows.
Just because it becomes staged doesn't mean it didn't have origins in real feeling.
Of course, there were some things that started fake (the staring in Say Goodbye) which I think took on more true emotion as the tour wound down to its end.
I don't know what to say about the stupid Tusk fight. Phony in the beginning (and possibly dangerous) and phony until the bitter end.

As far as the stage thing, that's one of the things that made me flip out over the Show You How lyrics. But it was even more explicit than I thought.
Before I got the lyrics I thought he said: "and the shadows, they will stand and linger."
But then I saw that he said: "and the shadow singer will stand and linger in places no one ever goes."
Very much about a woman who performs on the stage.

Sorry, we are sort of getting off topic here, but nah, I don't think they'd want to downplay it; it sells tickets I think, don't you? And it's just like working with your co-workers. I can't speak for everybody here, but some of my co-workers I like & I think I have a certain chemistry with & some I just don't like & have 0 chemistry with. Now with Fleetwood Mac, they are all that chemistry & all get along. Maybe Stevie gets along even better with men that she's had a relationship with. I'm just speculating here.

^But Stevie called him the shadow or something like that...why are they ghosts and shadows?? They slay me...
Well, you know Gold Dust Woman runs in the shadows.
As for the absent minded kiss, I love that. The familiarity. You said something about Stevie "letting" Lindsey sweat on her once and I definitely like the intimacy of being so used to being around a person that you touch mindlessly, without even realizing it.
It's kind of funny, but I think I have 11 video boots of The Dance and the guy I purchased them from rated them in terms of quality. I went through and rated them by the kiss Lindsey and Christine shared at the end of the show among other things. I also had a rating based on what Lindsey did during Silver Springs (and how far he "chased" Stevie), but I definitely rated my tapes by how fast Lindsey and Chris walked into each other's arms.

I agree--the only "hot" feelings might be in the form of a flash.
Well played.
I think they love each other deeply and might love each other above everyone else (with the exception of Lindsey loving his children the most, hopefully), but as for passion, come ON! How much passion and heat is there going to be with someone you've known for 45 years?
And not all the viagra in the world could save them.
Michele
Agreed.
And then there's Everybody Loves You (which we know is about Lindsey)--
"We cause each other such pain
Everywhere we go now
At home or on stage"
Except the part about loving his children more than his woman, I can agree with all of this! All the viagra in the world...
1) Cuz people eat it up. They love it. They expect to see it.
2) Just cuz she wrote the song recently doesn't mean it's a recent lyrics, OR that the lyric is talking about her current situation. She could be talking about how she felt 20 or 30 years ago.
3) Wait, you think he loves Stevie more than his kids? Or Kristen more than his kids?
I don't know, I guess it's because I've never seen them live before and a part is hoping that when I do, there's going to be some spontaneity in the performance.
fumi - I think I'm just now starting to embrace my Shipperness. It really is a wonderful thing lol
I agree there's something there & there always will be. I just don't think they are currently in a romantic relationship, and I don't think they have been for at least 14 years (and probably more like 30.) Stevie has said that at times when they are on stage, everything else fades away & they're back in 1975 & it's still magical.
Lee :)
I'm with you. And the "it's all the same" is about the good AND the bad. Like, it just can't ever really work our between them, and she realizes it's not his fault even though she was so bitter towards him for so many years. It's just not meant to be, and I think My Heart mourns that a little bit.
Yes, it does become routine. And if you're not careful, that's ALL it becomes. That's why people grow apart, they become complacent in the day to day & let the passion fade. I'm sure they do have geniune love for eachother - as old friends.
They are playing the part that the audience wants them to play. How do you think the audience would react if they just sang their songs , barely acknowledging eachother, without implied drama? Boooooorrrrriiinnnggggg!
Michele
I agree with the bolded statement. I don't think it's scripted or anything, but it becomes part of the routine if the audience reacts well to it.
As for the absent minded kiss, I love that. The familiarity. You said something about Stevie "letting" Lindsey sweat on her once and I definitely like the intimacy of being so used to being around a person that you touch mindlessly, without even realizing it.
HA! I always said that Stevie was probably totally pissed that he was sweating all over her, but that she didn't want o push him away on stage.

Ok I see what you guys are saying. That some of the momentsWERE real and genuine. But they repeated them for the other shows because they didn't want the audience to miss out. That makes sense. As long as there not totally making up every. single. thing. they are doing, I'm ok with that. I just think it would be a real bummer if they were faking everything. I'd like to believe that there is always going to be a musical connection between them because of all their history...and that looks to be the case :D!! I do think that if Lindsey hadn't been involved with Kristen throughout the dance that maybe they could've given their relationship another shot. That being said, I am happy for Lindsey that he now has a happy and stable home life. However, the Shipper part of me can't help but imagine how cute Lindsey and Stevie's kids would have been :o! I know...it never would've happened but I can dream can't I . That being said I really, really, really want to see them in concert. I'm going to try to make it to Stevie's in New York cause that is right before I move up there to go to college so hopefully that works out ...unfortunately the tickets are not on sale right now :distress:! They are both about the same distance from where you'll be, give or take a few miles. Are you driving?
It's really a crapshoot cause driving down towards the Jersey Shore the day before the long weekend starts might be daunting from where you are coming from, although if you left early in the day, you'd probably be fine.
On the flip side, Jones Beach is not the easiest place in the world to get to if you aren't familiar with traveling out to Long Island. But obviously maps and GPS will help you get to both.
I couldn't decide either, so I'm going to both!!!

Well, I don't know how happy he is or could have been, but just talking about looks, the physical attributes, I don't think mating with Stevie would have produced better looking kids than what he's got.
Emotionally, it would have been interesting to see what their combination would have created. Probably a real psycho. But quite talented.

Hi Lee, :wavey:
This isn't a knock on you. I'm only asking because you touched on this again and nobody will explain how the timing of a fake romance since 1997 makes logical sense. If it was so easy to believe their relationship wasn't all a stage act during the Dance era, and others are quite sure and very sure they were still banging long after they broke up, why are you so sure that ship has sailed and it is all a stage act now? The point I'm not making very well is, why do you think Lindsey and Stevie feel the need to play up a fake relationship at this point in time? What is different now besides Lindsey being married with children? That fact should make them less willing to fake a romance, not more. It's the timing I don't get. Didn't they want to sell records and concert tickets before 1997?
1) Cuz people eat it up. They love it. They expect to see it.
They are playing the part that the audience wants them to play. How do you think the audience would react if they just sang their songs , barely acknowledging eachother, without implied drama? Boooooorrrrriiinnnggggg!
Hi there! :wavey: You bring up similar points so I've got the same questions. Why weren't people eating it up and expecting to to see fake romance before 1997? Why weren't Stevie and Lindsey playing parts the audience wanted them to play before Lindsey got married? Why the shift in their stage drama after 97? Or is their behavior much the same and fans just interpret that behavior differently because of the change in Lindsey's marital status? My belief is that with this change in circumstances we should see a change in behavior...but a change in the opposite direction. A married man with children and a happy family doesn't seem the best candidate for selling a fake romance with an old flame unless he is John Barrymore. Wait...didn't Bob Welch say Stevie and Lindsey are the Ethel and John Barrymore of rock? ;)
How would the audience react if they just sang their songs? The same as for every other band that fake romance isn't a part of the act. Meaning every other band in the world besides FM. Why do you think no other bands with male and female members caught onto this fake romance marketing idea?
The thing that bothers me most about the whole "it's just an act" theory is it is based on the thought of "oh, they do that every night" so there can't be any emotion behind whatever they do onstage. What? Don't you hug or kiss your loved ones in an offhanded way? Doesn't it become routine? Does that mean you've "lost that loving feeling"? Partners in crime, indeed. Know what they're doing, for sure. No emotion or love or even a kind of passion - no way.
Hi CA :wavey: The absent minded affection Lindsey gives Stevie so often seems pretty real to me. I see why people are convinced they had something going during the Dance. Those recently released video clips of Dance promo interviews where he twice kisses the top of Stevie's head...like an instinctive reaction he's compelled to do...I'm sure he wasn't consciously aware he was doing it. He seemed unaware they were being filmed. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been doing it and he wouldn't have been absent mindedly picking his nose on camera either.
Back to the timing issue. Good to know you agree. I was begining to wonder if I was the only one who didn't see a logical reason for the fake stage antics now. Seems everyone else thinks Lindsey and Stevie are so insecure about the validity of their music they feel the need to bolster it with fake romantic stage antics, cuz the crowds would disappear if they didn't fake it. That's the only logical reason I can see for them to use fake drama to sell records & tickets now, when they didn't do it before the band reunion in 1997. Maybe they believe they lost their mojo when Christine left? So Stevie and Lindey had to resort to enhanced drama to make up for their lame musical chops in Christine's absence?
3) Wait, you think he loves Stevie more than his kids? Or Kristen more than his kids?
I was trying to say, unlike a lot of women who often place the love of their children above the love of their spouse or partner, I believe Lindsey loves his woman more than anyone... other than himself. Maybe I'm wrong. I notice women are more likely to place children ahead of their man, while a man tends to be selfish to the point of loving his woman more than his kids because she is going to tend to his needs more than his kids are. Men can get jealous of the kids taking too much of their woman's attention away from them. :sorry: I admit I feel that way sometimes. :p
Stevie's not really his woman. I hope he loves his kids more than her. If she were their mother, I'd feel differently.
Michele
I'm curious why you specifically left out their mother when you said you thought he loved Stevie above everyone except his children?
I think they love each other deeply and might love each other above everyone else (with the exception of Lindsey loving his children the most, hopefully)...
Michele
Why does everyone believe Lindsey's so happily married but he loves Stevie more than the mother of his kids? This makes no sense to me on the same level as the fake romance since the Dance theory. :sorry: Don't get it.
Ha, but that's an old lyric. Many of Stevie's SYW songs had to do with The Dance. So, I wouldn't say that line supports a current relationship.
Michele
2) Just cuz she wrote the song recently doesn't mean it's a recent lyrics, OR that the lyric is talking about her current situation. She could be talking about how she felt 20 or 30 years ago.
Ha, but that IS my point. I said I believe almost all their lyrics are old. I'm not just poiting to the ones which blatantly contradicting their current relationship status like this one,
Everywhere we go now
At home or on stage
For all we know that one lyric could be the only one that's current. If you take into consideration that most of their lyrics are old, Lindsey's too, not just Stevie's, we have no idea what the status of their relationship is by listening to their songs.
What I hear in their music is the same trend. Certain lyrics point to them having a drama filled relationship where miscommunication and separation as the centerpiece, while other lyrics point to a solid, stable and loving relationship between two people who have been through so much together, come out the other side together, and still mean everything to each other. I hear it from both of them. Not just from Mr. happily married man, and not only Ms. single and I never wanted a husband or children, queen of rock.

I'm curious why you specifically left out their mother when you said you thought he loved Stevie above everyone except his children?
Why do you think I left her out? I don't necessarily think he loves her more than Stevie. I think he's never gotten over wondering what might have happened if she hadn't gotten pregnant. I think he prizes the family life they've made together over whatever he could have had with Stevie. Comparing them one on one, I don't know if he loves Kristen more than Stevie. But they aren't one on one. They are one on five, because Kristen brings the whole family she and Lindsey have created into the equation with her.
It's like Fleetwood Mac. I do not love Christine more than I love Lindsey. But I love Fleetwood Mac (the 5 of them) more than I love Lindsey, more than I love Stevie, more than I love Christine and more than I love BN. I do not admire Lindsey, Christine and Stevie equally. But Fleetwood Mac outweighs my love for any of the individual players and the 3 songwriters mean more to me than any 2 do. I loved the SYW and the Unleashed tours. I must have seen more than 50 shows. But I'd give those up to have Christine back.
Similarly, I can imagine that Lindsey loves his 3 kids more than he loves Stevie and he loves his family (Kristen and the 3 kids) more than he loves Stevie. Does he love Kristen by herself more than he loves Stevie? I doubt it. Not judging from his lyrics.

u know what absolutely kills me? what makes ppl think that because he has a "wife" that that label means it all? "no one falls into a simple set of labels". i'm not trying to throw hate/shade on the marriage because all that know me knows full well that i believe in marriage to the upmost. however, i do know a man that has a wife and she is not his WOMAN! she is JUST his wife. the "wife is the "official side piece", if you will. some would look at the other woman that way, but my answer to that is, HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS. he married her cause she had his kid. he thought it was the right thing to do. the wife knows her position. it's a sad situation in my eyes.
all i'm saying is, for some ppl LABELS don't mean anything. it's the actions behind it. who here doesn't know a couple that's been together for YEARS and have never gotten married? the license doesn't make him less of her man, or her less of his woman.

You have a point there about labels! What you mentioned brings back the entire way life was in the 70's when it came to relationships.........seemed like everyone (no, not really everyone) was out exploring, it was the, "Thing" to have open marriages, relationships, threesomes, orgies, and whatever else tripped one! It was the time carried over from the 60's (which is when all of FM was in their prime both). And Stevie & Lindsey were right there in the heart of where Hippiedom was, the summer of love.........soooooo.....getting back to your point Mimi.......there were influences in their lives then that shaped them and although it sounds strange for Stevie to have done Mick, Lindsey, Don, & Joe, oh, forgot JD too, well......it was the, "thing" to do back then and as normal as ever. So although it sounds strange and sad for Lindsey's wife...well.....to them it's all normal.

he married her cause she had his kid. he thought it was the right thing to do. the wife knows her position. it's a sad situation in my eyes.
But it was 1997, I don't think he felt any need to marry someone or stay with them just because they were pregnant in that day and age. Seeing as how he and Stevie were "shackin' up" like free spirits way back in the seventies, before society totally accepted it, I really don't see him as that old fashioned that he'd feel compelled to "do the right thing." Well, of course he would, but in his mind I think the "right thing" would be supporting the child. Making sure Kristen was financially comfortable, but not necessarily marrying her.
And anyway, he didn't marry her then. He waited a couple of years until their family was cemented. The first baby may have been a mistake (on his part, anyway) but the next one was a plan.
I don't think Lindsey's SYW songs talk about Stevie, but his UTS songs certainly seem to and his songs and her TISL and SYW songs all seem to say the same thing. So, I do think they were romantically involved in 1997, but I also think that the romance and drama of being star-crossed was actually stronger than any real-life or practical need to be together was or else they would have been. An unwanted pregnancy wouldn't have been enough to stop them, if they really wanted it.
I think what was true in the eighties is probably true now. Lindsey gets out more than he ever did, but Stevie says he didn't play enough and he thought she played too much. He is still not that social and he probably savors a quiet and unvarying domestic routine. His outlet is his music and that's as "social" as he gets.
He's still the guy who could be locked up in a studio with Richard or Ray and, as much as she reminds him of her, she's not really the girl who sewed stars on his jean pockets. Stevie doesn't seem sedentary at all. She gets restless. Wants to be doing something. I don't think they'd be very compatible living together anymore and they must know this at heart.
They might be lovers, but I don't think Lindsey's married out of obligation. I think he wants to be where he is. That's why I don't consider Stevie his woman.
I do recall a Dance moment that made me think of the possessiveness that term "his woman" connotes though. So, there's this 1975 photo where Lindsey has both Lindsey and Christine around the neck, holding them in the crook of his elbows. I do remember Lindsey doing that to Stevie at the end of The Dance. I don't know if it's on the dvd or if it was another Dance show, but they all take their group bow and then he just grabs Stevie and and walks off the stage with her and I do remember being taken by the familiar and proprietary nature of the act.

people still do practice this and many to please others.
ha! so glad you said this.
this i disagree with. that's a lot of baggage!!! maybe she couldn't handle it. maybe he wouldn't be able to handle juggling his "woman" and his "baby's mama". I PERSONALLY don't like to be in relationships with guys w/ kids because I WANT TO BE THE PRIORITY! (selfish? maybe...lemme finish lol!) i don't have kids right now because i want to focus on me! i don't want to take on, or take part, in anyone else's responsibilities. maybe Stevie felt the same way
all n all, i understand where you're coming from but it doesn't make me think any different about my "labels" theory.

I agree with you on everything, Michelle, :wavey: except Will being a mistake. I give Lindsey enough credit for knowing how to remain childless until his late 40s that he would not be making that kind of mistake at that point in time.
I don't think Lindsey's SYW songs talk about Stevie, but his UTS songs certainly seem to
I agree his UTS songs have Stevie all over them. Then he dedicated the cd to his wife and kids.

His familiarity with her body, along with the proprietary nature of his touch and the look in his eyes & sound of his voice when interacting with her all add up to Stevie=his woman.

Yes, I see your point. In the old days, a woman with children found it hard to get a date. These days, men with children are encountering the same problem. And if it's a man who is financially strapped because he's paying tuition or child support, that makes it a double turn off.
So, if it was anyone but Stevie I might agree with you, but I think she would love to play stepmom to his kids. In fact, I think she'd be more jealous about Kristen being first in the kids' affections than she would about any woman vying for Lindsey.
I think Stevie has always played second fiddle (or second guitar) to Lindsey's music anyway. That's probably why she was so restless in the seventies, because he was hanging out with his musician friends and falling asleep with his guitar and taking her for granted. I think she'd have less objection coming in second to his kids than to his tinkering with I'm So Afraid.
When she divorced Kim, I think if she could have just raised Robin's baby without having to deal with Robin's hubby, she would have jumped at the chance.

Well, I might be giving Ken a little too much credit. He said that Lindsey wasn't really ready, felt a little resentful, but then when the baby was there and Lindsey interacted with it -- felt the little fingers curl around his hand -- then Lindsey was hooked.

Personally - and this is only a theory/opinion. I think that LB had only been dating K a short time in '96/'97. I think they were serious but not totally committed. I think that LB working with Stevie again (while everyone was fit & healthy & sober, and in a better place than they were previously) brought back some of the old romance. I think that they may have given it a go, and then K got pregnant. I don't think she "trapped" LB, and I don't think it was planned. I think LB felt he really needed to try w/K and also that this might be his last shot at a family & being a dad (let's face it, he & Stevie were not going to procreate at her age.) I think he broke it off w/Stevie (broke her heart, broke her heart...) andf stayed w/K. Obviously he was in love w/K if he married her & they had 2 more kids. I do believe that LB truly loves K, and I also believe that he will always love Stevie in some way. I do NOT believe that he pines for Stevie, or wishes he were with her instead of K, or that he fantasizes about Stevie when he's w/K.
Wait...didn't Bob Welch say Stevie and Lindsey are the Ethel and John Barrymore of rock? ;)
2 words - Silver Springs
How would the audience react if they just sang their songs? The same as for every other band that fake romance isn't a part of the act. Meaning every other band in the world besides FM. Why do you think no other bands with male and female members caught onto this fake romance marketing idea?
Apples & oranges. People don't care about it if it was never there.
1) I think there was so much anger & rage at eachother during the Rumours, Tusk & Mirage tours, there was NO SHOT as playing up any sort of romance on stage. If anything, the audience probably wanted to see that tension between them at that time - and I don't think that was faked.
2) The Dance. Silver Springs. Maybe some thoughts of "maybe we could try again..." HELLO?!?!
And I for one never said anything was "faked." I do agree they have genuine affection for eachother. I just don't think they are romantically involved anymore. The show is the same one every.single.night. Just because they hug or hold hands walking offstage does not mean they are still madly in love.
Wow. Does your wife know?
Why does everyone believe Lindsey's so happily married but he loves Stevie more than the mother of his kids?
What? Who believes this?
Ha, but that IS my point. I said I believe almost all their lyrics are old. I'm not just poiting to the ones which blatantly contradicting their current relationship status like this one,
Everywhere we go now
At home or on stage
For all we know that one lyric could be the only one that's current. If you take into consideration that most of their lyrics are old, Lindsey's too, not just Stevie's, we have no idea what the status of their relationship is by listening to their songs.
If we have no idea, why are you so sure they're currently involved?
What I hear in their music is the same trend. Certain lyrics point to them having a drama filled relationship where miscommunication and separation as the centerpiece, while other lyrics point to a solid, stable and loving relationship between two people who have been through so much together, come out the other side together, and still mean everything to each other. I hear it from both of them. Not just from Mr. happily married man, and not only Ms. single and I never wanted a husband or children, queen of rock.
But there's a difference between what you said above & whether they're still banging. I'm sure they do mean a lot to eachother, and I'm sure they always will. Doesn't mean they currently have a romantic/sexual relationship.
It doesn't have to be all or nothing, black or white. It doesn't have to be "well, either they're still a couple & madly in love, or they hate eachother & everything they do is an act." It doesn't have to be "they do that because they have to for the show & it's scripted" vs. "omg, did you see that? they're obviously still together!" It can be somewhere in the middle. :wavey:
