What does everyone think Stevie first sales are going to be?
My guess would be a 90,000-115,000 debuting at number 4.
I could be wrong. Maybe she will get the number one spot!!!!

ummm I would love for it to hit those numbers, but I don't think it will. She is not coming off something like the Dance. TISL sold like 104,000. This album won't sell as well initially. Hopefully around 60. Her live album bombed.
Keep in mind that Sheryl Crows, Heart, Jewel, Alanis, Melissa Ethridge, Hole's last albums have not even went gold! Women aren't doing too well unless they are Country.

Those numbers sound a bit aggressive to me. My guess is she'll crack the top 20 for sure. With Soundscan being the way album sales are now calculated, I'm betting her sales figures will be far more conservative this time around. My guess is 35,000-50,000 at most. I dearly hope I'm wrong and Stevie ropes in another top 5 spot and sells hundreds of thousands of copies... but I'm guessing that won't be the case.

I have no clue what her first weeks sales will be, but I think she could easily take #1. The only other band releasing an album that day that I've ever even heard of is Fleet Foxes, and I doubt they will be massive competition.

Didn't Christina Aguilera (at least, I THINK it was her) debut at number 1 with 45K sales?
I'm predicting a top 5/3 debut for this album, followed be a rapid decline. I think it'll go Gold within... five years.
Don't think it'll do anything outside of the US.

This is what I'm hoping. I'm hoping that this album actually has good word of mouth and stays on the charts for awhile. She really hasn't had that happen since the Wild Heart.
That has changed. Adele sold over 300,000 to get the number #1 spot. It's back up again.

But she was bumped down for a while and regained the #1 spot two days ago with only 98,000. The number 2 album was Rise Against's new album which sold 85,000and the number 3 album only pulled in 47,000.If Stevie can pull in 100,000 the first week and there are no super albums out there topping the charts (Britney Spears maybe??) then she should easily sail into #1. If not, she should have no problem getting within the top 5.

Adele's 300k sales aren't really typical though, plus she's been super-promoted and hyped up as the next big thing (and Rolling in the Deep is a kick-ass song) so that explains why she's done so well.
I'd just love for Stevie to get a #1 album, simply for the whole pageantry of the whole affair! Ten years since her last studio album, thirty years since her first solo album also hit #1... etc. It's like a musical fairytale

I'm really interested to see what Stevie does overseas, especially since she is with Dave Stewart. I'm sure there will be some animosity about Dave not being Annie. It's going to be neat to watch what happens.

Fleetwood Mac's bigger everywhere, but if somehow this album ever sold a million in the U.S. it would surpass the sales of Say You Will. That would be something.

As of right now, the Top 10 on Billboard consists of acts like Adele, Glee, Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne and Lupe Fiasco. Between now and then, Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, Foo Fighters and Jessie J have album releases.
The week Stevie releases "In Your Dreams," she has competition from Musiq Soulchild and Colbie Caillat. I think it's very realistic she'll be in the Top 20, hopefully the Top 10 depending on if Britney, Bieber, Glee and others shift down the chart in a months time. Also, if she is definately on Oprah and is prominately featured on iTunes main page and in mags like Rolling Stone, she should be fine.
However, if I had to guess, I'd estimate sales of anywhere between 75-120 for the first week. But I wouldn't at all be surprised if she drops off soon after and sales decline only due to the fact that in the few weeks after her release, she faces Lil Wayne's Carter IV (if it's even released then) and Lady GaGa.

I thought Colbie's album got pushed back to July 12. It's Jennifer Lopez album LOVE that is released on May 3 and she has a big hit to back it. She is also facing competition right now from the Beastie Boys.
Stevie is currently kicking the Beastie Boys and Jennifer's butt on amazon. However, they seem to be getting better promotion though itunes and billboard magazine. We shall see.

Taking a line from a Tom Petty song'' I don't hear a single'', If that is the case it will be Stevie's 'base ' that buys this album. How big Stevie's base is another question. Going on this IYD should be in the top 10 the week it is released . Be prepared for it to get only 20,000 or less the first week. Hopefully over time it tops around 300,000. On the other side of coin very few people have heard this music in total. People that have are gushing over it. Is David Wild going to review it for Rolling Stone? How many stars? 3 1/2 or 4 or 4 1/2.? Someone giving IYD 5 stars would be insanity on their part ,but what if it is that good? The Heart and Soul Tour may help more than we think. An Oprah appearance done right could do wonders. Are Warner/Reprise going push the music and if they do will it work? The sizzle reel is wonderful but is anybody going to see it. Could the sizzle reel be cut down to 60 or even 30 seconds to be used on internet or TV spots or whatever. Is there a single for the next Twilight movie. What if the Stevie movie Dave made is epic, will non chiffonheads stomach it? Forget MTV and for the most part VH1, Stevie needs to get all of her stuff on Palladia(they play a lot of concerts old and new).Fleetwood Mac's Live in Boston from the Say You Will tour has been on Palladia recently. Which now comes down to radio airplay. Breaking into Billboards top 100 pop charts and hanging around there all summer would be a dream. I am hoping Stevie's new music breaks into the countless outlets where music is played.Stevie being nominated for a Grammy is probably a given. Getting a nomination for record or song of the year would be fantastic. Maybe the world is inching Stevie's way a little. Harry Potter , Twilight and other fantasy outlets may bring in new listeners. American Idol and Glee have featured Stevie's music. Lastly the lady herself-- THIS STEVIE NICKS!!!

Any number of factors could help or hinder first Stevie's first week sales, but she'll debut in the top 5. Reprise has been pushing advance purchase because all advance order sales are applied to first week sales and Reprise knows her demo isn't the kid that must have an album the week of release.
The label is smart for marketing the CD on its own terms, almost as thought it were a luxury item or lifestyle. It worked last year for Sade Adu's first album in 10 years. She debuted at #1 with half a million in sales and without the benefit of hit single or top 40 airplay.
\
Approximately 75% of Jennifer Lopez's long-delayed, and really awful Love? has already leaked since it was rejected by her last label. Even the few newly recorded songs are leaking. Single "On the Floor"'s brief, five-week run on the Hot 100 might won't help move units. It's debut high based on first week sales, peaked at #5 last week and this week plummeted to 13 -because radio isn't embracing it as expected. Her fanbase is likely to download the CD because they already own most of it and her two prior albums stiffed.
The Beastie Boys project is somewhat non-traditional and it's release trajectory might change.
Fleet Foxes will be competition.
Stevie should just fake a suicide attempt a week before the album arrives, film a reality show 48 hours after the attempt and hit the talk shows in under a week. She'll triple her predicted numbers even without a top 40 hit. Worked for Fantasia.

But radio still needs to start playing her new music.

My guess is first week sales would be in the 10,000-20,000 range. These days those are pretty decent for first week. The album will be at least top ten, but then quickly drop. The only people looking for this album are the die hard core fans. The general music buying/downloading public doesn't know about nor care that there is a new album on the horizon.

Oh please... Live in Chicago sold 19K during its first week with minimal promotion during the middle of a Fleetwood Mac tour, no less. I would venture to guess that first week sales will be in the 50K - 75K range and that she will chart in the Top 5. But this is only assuming that WB has done a halfway decent job of promoting this thing which, as of now, it seems like they are failing miserably so far. If they can turn this ship around quickly enough, the sky is the limit.
You know who would be a prime target audience? The ComicCon contingent. They would eat this stuff up!

I agree that Stevie's album will do better than that. What is interesting though is that Stevie is not coming off a thing like The Dance and there is no big VH1 promotion so far. If this album is actually good and gets good word of mouth like Bella Donna and the Wild Heart and the music just catches on and somehow some of the songs find a home, it might stay around for awhile. That's what I'm hoping. It would be nice if Stevie's album would hit #1 just for the promotion factor. And if retailers see that it has hit #1, maybe they will order more. There is just so much agism and sexism in rock and roll though. She has a lot to fight against.

LMAO :lol: but you may be onto something.
A few months back, before we heard SL and the sizzle reel, I was thinking upwards of 50K 1st week sales, but after hearing and seeing what we are in store for, I can see the possibility of a 1st week take upwards of 75K or more, depending on what the promotion starts to look like 2-3 weeks before 5/3.
Does anyone else find it interesting that SL is the current single, but is not even featured in the IYD trailer? I guess, maybe the thought is, we'll get the SL vid soon, or could be that WBR is planning on releasing another promotional track right before the IYD release date.

Seriously, I think Stevie appearing at ComicCon would be tremendous. Maybe ten years ago it would have been unspeakably tacky, but it's such a huge phenomenon today, and this album fits in nicely with fans of Dungeons and Dragons, the Twilight series and Lord of the Rings. And from what I can tell, the videos for "Moonlight" and/or "Annabel Lee" appear to be rather steampunk. Very au courant, I would say. It would be awesomely surreal to see William Shatner, George Takei and Stevie together in the same room signing autographs.

I hope there's still a system in place to integrate Warner music into Warner TV productions and CW programming, because that exchange is not as fluid as it once was. There's a little show on The CW called "The Vampire Diaries" that employs lots of music. It's a ratings hit with a Stevie-friendly demographic. New episodes begin next week.
Every delivery system available should be used. And the Comic-con crowd is fertile for this, since the trailer is also selling them a visual lifestyle/fantasy world as well.

First of all, I like the song, but my sister who used to be a really huge Stevie Nicks fan heard it and she said it wasn't hit. She said the first part sounded too 80s, and it took too long to get going. She really liked the words though. My brother said the same thing. I think Stevie has to fight against agism too.
The funny thing about Secret Love is David Wilde seemed genuinely suprised that it was released first. No one has mentioned this song as their favorite or even said it was great. I think song is a bone to her fans. A good song, but expendible. But I don't understand their reasoning behind it. She needs to put her best foot forward for this album and somehow, I don't think she did. Secret Love gave her some talking points on radio though. I just hope they didn't release this song because she wrote it alone. You would think she would past the ego thing, because that has killed her in the past. She is not a good decision maker.

I just hope they didn't release this song because she wrote it alone. You would think she would past the ego thing, because that has killed her in the past. She is not a good decision maker.
You're really assuming a lot there. First of all, clearly Stevie *doesn't* have an ego thing about first singles being solely written by her: "Stop Dragging My Heart Around", "Talk To Me", "Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind" and "Every Day" were all written by others. Second, how do you even know she made the decision to release "Secret Love" as the first single? Maybe it was a suggestion of her producer Glen Ballard or maybe it was the record company. Maybe they feel like they have such depth with this album that a pre-album release single like "Secret Love" could stoke some fires while the second single (whatever it is) will really light everything up when the album is actually available for purchase.

My guess is going to be 45-55k with a top 5 debut. It will stay top 20 for 3 or 4 weeks then drop off. Album sales are down, but for the most part, they're down for everyone. I believe TISL's chartings were similar.
What's different this time around, is pop is not the power house it used to be. It's all throw away music. Also, itunes wasn't around 10 years ago, so people will only tend to buy those artists' individual tracks on itunes. A lot more people are turning to music that sounds different. And while Stevie's music hasn't changed, it may sound fresh to people that are sick of songs featuring pitbull. These are the [B]albums[B] that I think actually sell (Adele?) And I've heard more negative comments about gaga's new stuff than positive...
So while I made a conservative estimate, what will happen to Stevie in today's music landscape is anyone's guess.

That's what I think too. I'm sure Born This Way will be amazing. But backlash is backlash none-the-less and will hurt her sales.

Hits Daily Double has there sales projections based on one days sales. Looks like Stevie will debut somewhere in the Top 10 with a projected 40-45K in first week sales. Seems on the low side to me, and HDD usually is far from accurate this early on.
http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news08519
"This Adele album is a mother.
The XL/Columbia U.K. pop diva is rolling sevens with 21, which will spend its seventh week at #1 next week, adding what appears to be another 120-150k to its 1.4 million U.S. total, thanks to Mom’s Day Weekend.
That’s based on one-day sales reports from those music retailers who have stopped searching for Osama bin Laden.
Next week, the real battle will be for #2 between a pair of Capitol/EMI entries. The Beastie Boys’ long-awaited Hot Sauce Committee Part Two, the sequel to an album that never officially came out, looks to be in the 100-110k range, the same as the next volume of the Now 38 series on the same label.
Indie stalwart Sub Pop’s indie answer to Crosby, Stills and Nash, Fleet Foxes’ Helplessness is looking at an impressive first-week total of 80-90k, which should be good for Top 4.
American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez’s Island/IDJ bow, Love?, looks to be in the 60-65k range, which might be helped by her performance on Thursday night’s edition of the show.
Reprise’s Fleetwood Mac vet Stevie Nicks, currently on tour with Rod Stewart, comes out with In Your Dreams, her first solo album since 2001’s Trouble in Shangri-La, which should do between 40-45k.
Atlantic R&B crooner Musiq Soulchild is back with his sixth studio album, MusiqInTheMagiq, in the range of 30-35k
Motley Crue’s Nikki Sixx band, Sixx: A.M., is back with the Eleven Seven album, This Is Gonna Hurt, on target for between 25-30k, the same as Epic’s Sade The Ultimate Collection.
The market was down 17% vs. last week, down 2% vs. the same week last year and still, surprisingly, down 2% year to date. Now we can all go back to getting to the roots of Donald Trump’s hair."

It is hard to say what this all means or how accurate HDD ultimately is. I have followed them before for other artists I love (Carrie Underwood) and the numbers can vastly fluctuate as the week goes on. Typically, however, they are in the ballpark. They will issue another "guess" on Friday, and then a final "guess" next Monday, as I recall. Of note, HDD didn't even mention Stevie in the "forthcoming albums" component of their analysis last week, so they may just not be following her at all. I am also not sure where they get the one day sales figures from. All in all, take it with a grain of salt (or "draw a line in the sand, just because"). I wanted to pass it along because I know people have been speculating.
My only concern -- if Stevie needs a "rocket" to get her to actually do a full-scale solo tour again (read: no casinos), she is going to need to sell more copies of IYD. I wonder how much it hurts for her to not be on The Today Show, etc. this week...

This is the 2nd day in a row that she's been at #2 on Amazon (this year's top-selling album, Adele's 21, remains at #1), and she was top 5 on iTunes when I checked last night. HDD has made too many gross miscalculations based on 1-day sales, so I'll wait for at least three days of retail. Stevie has the reviews, tons of press - even her show cancellation was a top item on websites with huge traffic, and with American Idol on the way, she's going to do acceptable numbers.

Listen, for a 62 year-old female competing in the American music market it's better than it could be. And considering the tepid promotion WB has done for this record, I think a top 10 placement would be respectable and probably would get another week's worth of press.
JLo has the advantage of having a song at radio that is on a number of formats and is selling on iTunes, plus she is on a tv show that, in case you hadn't noticed, everybody but Jesus seems to watch. I would rather listen to cats fight in an alley, but that's just me.
And it's unfortunate that there isn't more support, but it is what it is. I'm just happy to have IYD playing in my car, in my apartment and in my ear buds. She made it for us, and that's good enough for me.

I wonder. Did Lopez have a big presale or something. I don't understand. I'm a chart whore. She only started beating Stevie on iTunes late last night. And one has to wonder if she is really. beating Stevie on iTunes. Both of Stevie's versions have done well on iTunes. She's not beating her at Amazon. Stevie is kicking butt. Lopez was doing horrible on Amazon, in the 100s, until last night.
Something funny though, Fleet Foxes may sale a lot records, but they are going to make much. They have been dirt cheap for a couple of months.

snippet from billboard today - i dont think they are counting all the presale cd's that were sold. i will be interested to see the numbers when they start coming in on monday.
Also aiming for likely top 10 entries are Stevie Nicks' "In Your Dreams" and Musiq Soulchild's "Musiqinthemagiq."
One notable re-entry next week might be Fleetwood Mac's "Rumours" album, which is profiting from the power of Fox's "Glee." The TV series dedicated its entire May 3 episode to the 1977 No. 1 album -- which spent 31 weeks atop the chart. Six of the set's 11 songs were performed by the cast, while another was heard in its original form as background music

yeah that was 109K but the music business is doing bad
Stevie's album is starting to move down the charts on iTunes, it's peak for the deluxe edition was #5 and now it's down to #10, The peak for the regular edition was #18, now it's down to #50. However, she does have two editions that both did well. JLo deluxe is at #6 still, but Stevie's reg version was thumping hers early on. I don't know. Stevie is going to be in big trouble beginning next week. Hope they got something planned. TISL went gold in one month and then fell sorta flat not long after, but I can't see retailers ordering more of In Your Dreams without something happening.
On the plus side, Stevie is still doing really well on Amazon at #2 and is one of the most gifted CDs on there.

Can you imagine if they were releasing their post-Unleashed album now? It would have been huge.
The sustained ranking on iTunes of Rumours suggests an obvious Glee bump but then word-of-mouth/twitter.
Once again, I fear they lost their chance to bring a new generation into the fold. Hopefully some of those who are enthusiastic now will remain when the new album comes out in 6 years (using The Dance-to-Say You Will timeline)

I don't know but its only Friday and already Stevie's reg version is down to #74 on iTunes and her deluxe is #10 now. Can't help but wonder if this album might end up selling less than 250k. She is going to perform on the American Idole Finale, but it doesn't seem like the Glee thing helped her at all, although it was a major boost to Rumours and Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits. Seems like her new album and maybe, Glee helped Crystal Visions too, which will definitely go gold.

She's been consistently at the top or near the top for B&N and Amazon which has to bode well. On iTunes her deluxe version hit #6 I think and the regular version hit #18 or something (those sales will add together).
We don't have any idea about floor sales at stores yet.
The question is how much of the market are B&N, Amazon, iTunes, etc. Let's remove floor sales for the sake of argument: If B&N, Amazon and iTunes were all roughly 1/3 of the market in sales then I would say Nicks would have a really good shot at hitting in the top 3. But if iTunes is 50% of the market and B&N/Amazon the other 50%, then her debut would be more like #5 or so.

Indeed. Looks like she's going to hopefully make #6, which for a 62 year old woman who hasn't recorded any new material in a decade, isn't anything to sneeze at! Trouble In Shangri La debuted at #5, so the fact In Your Dreams will debut at #6 shows she's hasn't diminished. Just think of it this way, besides Trouble In Shangri La, she hasn't had an album peak in the single digits since 1983. Rock A Little peaked at #12, Other Side Of The Mirror at #10, Street Angel at #45. We all think of Rock A Little and Other Side Of The Mirror as classics... yet In Your Dreams is set to chart twice as high as either of those albums. We should all be proud Stevie still has this much presence after all these years!

I feel like her first week sales will be much less then TISL, but I think it will drop off slower. Especially considering that any TV promotion will be done long after the first week. Really if she were to put her eggs heavily in any one basket, I would maybe make sure I was in PERFECT health for American Idol and give a REALLY good performance of a song from In Your Dreams. She will never play a song to a bigger audience the rest of the year. I really hope that she is actually on the show and she better not sing F***ing Landslie or anything not on IYD for that matter. She'll be back in the top 10 in 2-3 weeks.

I agree, I think she'd be WAY better off doing a song that's actually on In Your Dreams. I'm just saying that its possible that its the show's call, and in that case, I suppose her management would have to say that at least she's getting some visibility.

Thanks for the clarification...it puts it in perspective...good for Stevie!!:angel:

Of course it's silly to play What-if games, but I can't help thinking that appearances on the Today show & elsewhere last week could have helped her tie or beat the TISL debut (in term of ranking, not sales, of course) if only her health had held up. Too bad.

Secret Love is not going to get people to buy her album. Something uptempo like In Your Dreams or Ghosts or Gone. She needs to do something else from her solo career and quit promoting Fleetwood Mac. She single handly got Fleetwood Mac Rumours to chart again. Had she championed Leather and Lace or Edge of Seventeen like she has Rhiannon or Landslide, they would of been gold already.

So you say. Some people may really like Secret Love and want to get the album. Just because you might not buy it after only hearing that track, do not presume to speak for others. How can you keep doing this, and what right do you have to do it time and time again?

I think the point about the single is figuring out what would have the widest possible appeal and provide the widest exposure. I see the logic behind "In Your Dreams" as that kind of track moreso than "Secret Love"--which of course does not account for which song is better but does account for what audience might be alienated by choosing IYD over SL.
But also the simple fact is that older artists do not get the promotion nor the buzz that younger artists (have) generate(ed for them). Example: I defy anyone to name a finer work of pop(art) in the 00s than the Pet Shop Boys 2009 Yes album, but that got 0 radio play in ENGLAND much less the US. And they are a national treasure in England. And the album was pure radio-ready bliss from beginning to penultimate track (the final track was a MAGNFICENT but not a radio-type song).
I think I agree with those who have said that almost any track from IYD could play well on the radio (in that sense, this really is Stevie's Rumours)--and many invite innovative music video concepts (though not directed by Dave Stewart, lordhelpusall). However, that won't happen: I'm not sure if it's because the artist doesn't have youth appeal or because of the industry's arbitrary--self-congratulatory--promotional dictates (Plant-and-Krauss is not about art but is about pure commercial calcuation, while Stevie-and-Dave is, ultimately, genuinely, about art).

I'm aware that she was involved, but I think we'd be remiss to not think that there are more contributing factors to this than just Stevie chumming up with Ryan Murphy. As she has even said herself, FM is greater than the sum of its parts. I seriously doubt it was a hard sell to the Glee machine to do songs from an album like "Rumours" for a show about the interpersonal relationships between a bunch of dramatic individuals. Again, I doubt it was a hard sell.

Sorry if this has been posted elsewhere. If I'm reading the StreetPulse charts correctly, on the AC chart she is #2 behind Adele. She is #6 on the independent retail sales report. On the overall sales report she is #7. Not sure if those are final resting spots or not yet.
The chart that everyone cares about in the industry is the sales chart. That will not be finalized until later. Only 30something % of the reports are in now.

It's really a win-win for all when you think about it. Stevie's PR team probably implanted the Fleetwood Mac/Rumours show in the Glee creator's minds to coincide with Stevie's new album. I doubt Stevie herself had much to do with Glee deciding to do a Mac episode. But Jondalar is right... without Stevie promoting her first new album in 10 years, I doubt we'd be getting a Fleetwood Mac episode of Glee. Not that I watched the show or really give a flip. But in the end, Fleetwood Mac wins by getting Rumours back on the charts, Stevie wins by getting her name out there to coincide with her new release, and Glee wins by being able to use the perfect material for their show & get lots of attention while doing it.

I'm just not understanding how JLo is charting above Stevie...Stevie's album charged out of the gate while JLo's had a very slow start and most of the songs on her record have been floating around for close to 2 years.

Interesting point concerning Krauss/Plant album....I still feel Stevie has to make as many television appearances as possible over the next three weeks to even keep the possibilities of a "slow burn".. Adele's album will continue to dominate the charts until Gaga's release in two weeks.
I don't think the marketing of FM will backfire...if stirring up nostalgic memories of Rumors to remind people to give Stevie's new album a listen then I'm all for it!!

It's probably more probable that Howard and her management got her involved with Glee in the first place and now that FM and Stevie are under the same management roof (assuming that Azoff still manages FM), it's not surprising that a collaboration with Stevie led to an entire FM show.

I'm not quite buying that. She mentions Katy Perry's song ET. Look at her playlist on iTunes. They were current hits at the time. She writes a song called Moonlight and gets on Glee. Stevie is no dummy. She pays attention to what is current. And I'm sure she would love to tell those people who said her album wouldn't sale "I told you so."
They may have set a meeting up with Glee, so she could meet with them, but I'm sure it was all her. She is amazing. She fights for herself. She is also fighting for the legacy of Fleetwood Mac and is even plugging Lindsey's new album.

It won't update in an even way, because different retailers report at different times. Those numbers might represent sales at Target and Walmart for example, where perhaps the Fleet Foxes might not sell so well to the demographic that buys CDs there. The next update might add 50,000 copies sold for them whilst only 10,000 for Stevie.
Rember they only have sales info from 36% of retailers so far. Note that this is not representative of an even 36% of the total number of records sold by each artist.

Well now the next question is whether this album might go Gold. TISL did 109,000 or so its first week and it went Gold in about 6 weeks or so I think.

If TISL hasn't gone platinum after a full decade, IYD will not go Gold. Notice her first week sales of IYD are less than half the first week sales of TISL. I suspect IYD will end up selling less than half the amount of copies TISL did total as well. This has nothing to do with Stevie, but everything to do with the state of the music business.

Le sigh... she should have at least hit #5 or sold atleast 71,240. However, I will take #6. I guess the question is where will she go from here? Since her promotion will probably kick up this week and may have a severe boost if she does perform on AI, then it may peak higher than 6! Or it could just continue to fall off the charts... I guess we shall see. Pretty awesome that Rumours is beating Britney Spears.

I think there is something to be said about an artist in her 60s charting with two albums in the Top 15 on the Billboard chart at the same time. It's an astonishing feat if you really think about it. This alone should warrant some notices in the press. Hopefully WB is seizing this opportunity to put some momentum behind this album... Oh, wait... it's WB. Never mind. First week sales for STEVIE NICKS' 'IN YOUR DREAMS' will be roughly 47,115 units sold in the US according to Hits Daily Double...
FLEETWOOD MAC'S 1977 'RUMOURS' album exploded at retail this past week in the US thanks to the GLEE episode featuring a number of it's tracks. The album notched up 27,133 units sold in the US.

Look at the gap between JLo at #5 and Stevie at #6...looks like Stevie didn't really harm herself by missing the first week promotion, since she would have had to move another 33,000 units to overtake her. She really lucked out in that regard.

What are your guesses on how many albums she'll sell in the first week according to SoundScan? iTunes downloads? Just curious what range you think she'll be in...
Whoever guesses the closest will receive a special gift from me! (Stevie related)
I am here to claim my prize.;) I guessed 48k and IYD did a little over 47k.

I would guess 10k in 4 weeks. Sheryl Crows last album only sold 150,00 and Stevie's looking at about the same, unless something WORKS for her.

I don't think it's because it's not that good...but what radio stations are clamoring to play Stevie Nicks? She's a "classic" artist, and unfortunately, "classic" artists aren't the hitmakers.
This.
I predicted No. 12 on the album charts, but I think even that was overly optimistic. I don't even know if it made the top 200.

If Barbra Streisand in 2010(F*&K blahblah streisand, stupid dingbat!) can have a number one album, I sure wish Stevie could.
 Dude, it was in 2009. And that "dingbat" has been around A LOT longer than our Stevie has and she's still working and going strong. She's been the #1 selling female recording artist in the US for almost a decade now, and made over 30 studio albums in a 40 year career span. Dingbats sure do well for themselves.
Anyway...Stevie was in the Top 10 on iTunes for almost a full week, and consistently stayed in the top 10 on Amazon & Barnes & Noble.
My guess is a #5 or #6 debut. She has made an amazing album and it deserves to be heard by everyone else out there. Too bad she got sick when she did....the timing seriously sucked.
And honestly, I highly doubt that releasing a different single would have made ANY difference at all. No one over the age of 35 gets played on Top 40 radio anymore...whether you are Streisand, Stevie Nicks, Cher, Heart, Pat Benatar or WHOEVER...and that's the truth.

Both in their 60s.

Meh. They seem the same demographic to me. Only one is way more talented then the other haha.

I kind of think that artists in their 50s and 60s are only going to sell anything to hardcore fans. Whether they've built up the kind of long-term fanbase that will still buy their albums decades after the peaks of their popularity has less to do with talent than with their appeal to obsessive niche groups.
Barbra has massive Jewish and gay followings (both incredibly lucrative as fanbases). Stevie has a good solid hold on Wiccans and aging hippies, but nothing as significant as Barbra's. But compare her to Pat Benatar, whose career was more highly regarded than Stevie's solo work, but never had a niche appeal--she's still considered a legend, but can't sell an album.

Barbra and Stevie do NOT have the same core audience. Barbra's song selection is far different than Stevie's, and her voice is not suited for Rock music (nor is she identified with the few "rock" songs she's done.)
Barbra's following also includes her fan base for her many movies (almost all were hits), and also for the fact she rarely tours, so she's under-exposed to many.

Why in the hell is anyone talking about Barbara Striesand? She is a singer. Yeah, she's got a great voice and can CHOOSE great songs, but I would hardly say she is an artist.

The album isn't going anywhere. Stevie is not the kind of artists who will sell a lot of digital copies. Her market are those fans who want the physical CD in hand, liner notes and all. She's holding strong on Amazon and B&N and has more promotion coming up. She will be fine.

I agree with those who now believe that Stevie is a 'cult' artist. She will sell to the faithful and it appears there may be enough of us to allow her to keep a record contract and record more albums if she so chooses.Truth be told Stevie has always had the makings of a cult artist IMO.She just happened to fall in serendipitously with the right group of people at just the right time in rock history so she became a very successful mainstream artists for quite awhile.she has shown some recent signs of understanding this and perhaps making some moves to nurture her cult .I'd say this new album is one.The DVD for night of a thousand Stevies is another.

I agree with this.
She also seems to be going through a period where everyone's just gushing about her, and she's getting a hell of a lot of well-deserved praise. There's now more articles about "Rock Legend Stevie Nicks" than "That cokehead witch with the goat voice" compared to a few years ago.

Not to argue, but I bought my digital copy the day of release, and it has all the photos and liner notes. I thought it was pretty nice! I'll eventually buy the CD, but I was just too lazy to go get it the day of release. haha!

Oh I did too, and I think a lot of us did. It's just her audience on the whole prefers the physical copy in hand. JLo, on the other had, probably doesn't move too many hard copies vs digital copies.

I'm expecting it to drop next week and I don't think that makes it a flop. I think that's just the reality of today's music sales. With the occasional exception of an Adele or a Lady Gaga, most artists just aren't selling that many albums anymore.
I would consider the album a success already because the vast majority of reviews have been over-whelmingly positive, the album is going to debut in the top 10 on Billboard, and in spite of being 62 and not having an album out for 10 years (*and* the depleted condition of the marketplace), In Your Dreams still managed to sell nearly 48,000 it's first week.

she did a little better than hits daily double had stated on their site yesterday.
Stevie Nicks' "In Your Dreams" -- her first studio album since 2001's No. 5-peaking "Trouble In Shangri-La," enters at No. 6 with 52,000. It's the Fleetwood Mac member's fifth top 10 on her own and seventh solo studio release.
Right outside the top 10 is Fleetwood Mac's 1977 album "Rumours," which re-enters at No. 11 with just under 30,000 (up 1,951%) thanks to exposure gleaned from the May 3 episode of Fox TV's "Glee," which dedicated its entire hour to the album. Of its almost 30,000 haul last week, a full 91% were downloads. The week previous, the set sold just over 1,000 total copies. This is the highest re-entry for an album since the Rolling Stones' "Exile On Main St." was reissued and came back on the list at No. 2 on June 5, 2010.

Paul Simon got a huge boost from some commercials they have been playing with the reviews and the fact starbucks had him as a single of the week and the CD in front of the registered. I think that would be good for sales if WB would get her featured at Starbucks. I have friends who are not Stevie Nicks fans. I saw them last week, and they mentioned that they read a quote from Stevie. She said something about not caring how the album sells -- that she is doing this for herself and her fans.
That quote earned Stevie high respect from my friends!!! They thought it was great because they appreciate artists who work primarily for the integrity of their art, rather than just for the bucks.

I agree. This is no flop. This album could be the best of her solo career. For me it's too soon to call, but I have a strong sense it is. It's a beautiful thing when art crashes this singularly with pop/rock music. I really love every single song, some more than others, but I do not hear one piece of filler. Having said that, It would be nice for IYD to garner some recognition from outside her hardcore fans (I would love to see her sell a minimum of 250-300K by years end) and within the music industry (Grammy's).
They needs to release another single outside the box to get IYD some additional recognition from non-fans. Something along the lines of "You May Be The One" , "For What It's Worth" (I can see these 2 songs do really well on Triple A and AC) or "Moonlight".

I ll say this, Warners or who ever is promoting the IYD album, so far, hell evenim impressed, course doesnt mean crap if the album tanks, which i hope it will
but, ill give credit where its due, i think IYD is getting more promotion than SYW did, which is amzing since that was FM and more promo than all of LB solo records put together which is sad
i dont get how some one as over the hill and already had her time in the sun like SN gets all this and LB needs to find a record label, man that is more mysterious than the Bermuda Triangle, im telling you
but, whatever, I have never understood SN SOLO wise, but looks like im in the ,minority on that one
sad part, if IYD DEBUTS at #1 , i just thought of it, that will be the END of FM forever, if SN already had a big head and huge ego, I can only imagine what now that will do, I mean, 1982 was one thing, but now, if she goes #1, kiss FM good bye, which hoenstly is pretty crap, since shes had her time and LBis mainly the reason FM and SN even have good songs

I wonder what Stevie's record company thinks the album will sell?
They're certainly not helping by trying to market her/it as Adult Contemporary. Stevie is classic rock, not Bette Midler/Celine Dion-ish. I don't know if they think because she's over 60 that all of a sudden she's not rock anymore, or what. They did the same thing with TISL and look how well that turned out. I should be hearing Secret Love on the stations I listen to, not soft rock ones. She needs a new record company.

Exactly, exactly, exactly. They're trying to market it to the wrong people imo.

She actually exceeded my sales expectations... I didn't think she would exceed 50,000; but I was hoping she'd get in the top 5 on Billboard. I just wasn't counting on Adele's 21 having the teeth and staying power it's exhibiting!
I've been accused by another ledgie that I'm somekind of top secret press agent for Adele but her album is beautiful and I can't believe how the public has supported it world wide....The fact that Adele and Stevie and the Fleetfoxes are doing well on the charts bodes well for good music!!:blob1:

Can anyone update Stevie's wikipedia? If so, has anyone been tallying her review scores?

I did update it to include the US Weekly review. I tried to add the People magazine rating, but I can only find a link to People via a blog, and Wikipedia won't accept blog links.

I have to say that I am really thrilled. I mean, I would have loved for her to get higher, but in this day and time with the business being the way it is, #6 is great. Stevie now has 5 solo albums that have been in the top 10, that's really something to be proud of!!

I was thinking it be a trip if both IYDs and Rumours fed on each other in terms of sales, and Rumours went back to number 1 on the charts after all these years. I doubt it would happen, but that would be very cool. :)

Is anyone else a little scared over this Rumours recharting stuff. I mean its kind of cool, but if there was ever any hope for Fleetwood Mac to rely less heavily on that album in future sets I think it went out the window. Now they'll use this logic. "Well we have a bunch of new possible fans who are just hearing the rumors albumm for the first time, so those songs are new songs to them if they come to our concerts.

Yeah I can so see them rebranding that "Unleashed" reissue of Rumours/Greatest Hits they were talking about in 2009 and finally releasing it and doing another greatest hits tour "just this ONE TIME" for the fans. Where is the barf smiley?

Here is the latest sales data going into the weekend from Hits Daily Double. I looks like IYD is gonna drop quite a bit on the charts.
The only way this CD is going to really sell big is if she can get a hit single out there. I have not heard one of her new songs played here in Austin, and I am guessing that's probably the case in many cities.

That's still potentially in the top 20, but I agree that getting some radio play somewhere/somehow is essential. This album is too amazing to just fade away, it certainly doesn't deserve that fate.

It looks like it's gonna sell at least 100k in the first month, that's not tanking. It's a bit silly to be upset about whether it sells or not; it doesn't make it any less brilliant, nor should it make you like it any more or any less if it doesn't sell what it deserves to sell.

We need to reconcile ourselves to the fact that Stevie is now a cult artist..something with which she always had the makings of IMO even though back in the day her popularity in and out of Fleetwood Mac far exceded cultdom. She is now 63 years old and in a time when that style of music no longer rules the charts and airwaves. That her cult is large enough to give her a number 6 album is great.I look at this album as a gift given to the faithful fanbase and I have a feeling even she may view it as that or she would not have made it at all.Particularly in light of what she herself had beeen saying regading the release of new music.I'm not going to allow how much is sells to detract from my enjoyment of it.i waited far too long for this gem for that.

Wow, that quite a slide downwards.:distress: Even TISL stuck around the top 10 for 3 weeks before it's big decline. This does not bode well I'm afraid. At this rate she'll be lucky to move 150K units by years end. WB & Stevie need to bring out the NEXT strategy - release a new song, possibly 2 - one to radio & one to commission to DJ's for a Dance remix.
Oh well, its out of our hands, all we can do is cherish the CD and spread the love. I truly hope Stevie brings out her A game for her DWTS performance, her Ellen performance left little to be desired imo :o and obviously it shows in the units sold. Its also looking like we can kiss off a solo IYD tour. But one would think she'd wanna go out there and promote this CD even if its in smaller venues. Idk but I smell another H&S leg around the corner:cool:

Or she can just accept her final transition to cult status and play smaller halls with a more fluid setlist to an audience made up of apperciative die hard fans.

It's a futile effort to expect that Stevie can compete with today's market. I don't recognize 80 % of the artists on the charts, and of those that I do, I have no interest in.
Look at her album in an entirely different perspective. It's gotten great reviews. Her fans love it. She's happy with it. It is an artistic success in every way. **** sells, and **** this isn't!
Stevie understood the state of the industry/market in which she released the album. She was entirely reasonable in her expectations. A tour is entirely practical, and is not dependent on the sales of her current album; she has done many successful tours, even without an album to promote.
The panic and dissappointment expressed here is really unwarrented. I can see this as significant if she was in her late twenties, and just breaking away from Fleetwood Mac, and trying to establish herself as a solo artist. But that obviously is not the case here. She's an established artist...essentially a brand! Many older established artists don't blaze up the charts anymore, but they still carry on. Carry on my wayward sons!

Completely agree! Can you just imagine the energy of a crowd of die-hards in a 3-5k setting, with her swapping out her set-list! Dream on silly dreamer;) Try hard. Try harder!

Stevie was able to enjoy being in a huge album oriented band when an album meant something and millions of people bought albums in real record stores..this is true of her early solo career as well.So it isn't as if she is an unknown artists undiscovered by the masses.I've been a fan since the 1970s and still remember the massive airplay on radio and domination of the album charts and strings of hit singles. It may be frustrating for some of the younger fans that did not get to see this but I for one plan on being realistic about the here and now and not allow it to color my enjoyment of this fantastic new album and to hope for more new music as well.

Really? I thought TISL fell out of the Top 10 in its second week too.
Honestly, this is less of a drop than I feared. And she's doing that "Dancing" show this week - that should help this week's/next week's sales.
