Really? I thought TISL fell out of the Top 10 in its second week too.
Honestly, this is less of a drop than I feared. And she's doing that "Dancing" show this week - that should help this week's/next week's sales.
This, If they release the right single and they get it out there SOON! (IMO either Moonlight or IYD) album sales will get a boost. Also the dvd/movie thing Dave is working on should help garner interest, I think it will be a while before we know the real commercial success of the album.

i wouldnt be that worried. only half the numbers are in so far and hits daily double is always off a bit from billboard so i am sure she will end up in top 20 or so. she needs to do more promotion besides just dancing with the stars if she wants to sell more copies of IYD. its too bad she isnt on the today show concert list for the summer or even gma.

Can anyone guestimate the ratio of how many legit album sales vs. illegal downloads/cd burnings .. ..I know I stopped one cd burning and advised a friend to buy it and support Stevie instead.

I think that would be next to impossible to gauge. However many are illegally downloading copies of IYD has to be pretty small potatoes compared to how many TISL & SYW copies were illegally downloaded back in early part of the 00's during Napster, Limewire and other file sharing sites heyday. But where theres a will theres a way, and people are still doing it.:distress:
Having said that, I cannot imagine any fan wanting to download an inferior sounding copy when the actual CD has a far finer and stunning sound.I heard nice details and all kinds of things when I 1st played the CD, that did not translate on the RS stream or a copy I came across on the net. Go out and buy the CD and play it on a great car or terrific sound system - it makes all the difference:nod:

So I looked it up on BellaIllume... TISL went from #5 in Week 1 to #9 in Week 2, then #20, then #30, then #37, then #52.
So yeah, this will be a bigger Week 2 fall. But she didn't have Mac momentum to build on this time. Also "Planets" was a pretty big club hit and that helped sales. She should release another single... I think people would love "For What It's Worth" on the radio. It's how people like to think of Stevie: warm and acoustic. It's Landslide-esque.

At this rate she'll be lucky to move 150K units by years end.
150k is what I've long forecasted that IYD would sell once you consider Stevie's age, years of inactivity in recording new music, the state of the industry, and consistent bumbling by Warner Bros. It is what it is. At this point, I can't say I see WB releasing another single since sales are so small, and falling off a cliff. I wonder how discouraging this will be to Stevie regarding the possibility of recording again, though? :(

She needs to get Moonlight all up in the arse end of the next Twilight movie if she's gonna push any more CDs.

At this point of her career, I don't think that is a major factor. I hope she still rides the creative surge she felt while recording with Dave Stewart. After all, she was recently quoted as saying that she didn't care if the record sells -- that she was doing it for herself. She's financially solvent, so money/sales isn't the primary issue! She understands what's going on in the industry-- the drastic changes, along with her age. But she's an artist. Do painters stop painting when no one buys their paintings? No! There is only factor for Stevie not to continue making music. The only reason would be because she isn't inspired, and her muse has waned.

I'm not really sure if this counts or is what you're looking for, but I'm a huge Reba fan so I know facts about her. Her latest album came out on Nov 9, 2010. It sold 64,174 copies in its first week of release. And according to a chart dated April 2, 2011, the album has sold 254,490 copies in the US.

Yes, her age does play a factor in the sales. However, the largest reason for such a huge drop is the lack of promotion. The only promotion she has done since the release is Ellen. I still have yet to hear the single on the radio or see WB do any promotion at all. If she is well enough to perform shows, why hasn't her Today show appearance been rescheduled? Why isn't she on the late night shows? Why hasn't a second single been released? If they want sales to increase, they are going to need to get the word out there. I can only hope they are scheduling a big week of promotion near the end of May that will create a bump in sales, but I'm not holding my breath. I think it is time Stevie fire WB and her management and find people who know WTF they are doing.

Reba usually goes platinum. She has a built in audience and gets plenty of time on the radio. However, she might of saturated the market. 3 albums in in 3 years. It got lost.

Maybe it hurt a little but I honestly don't think its promotion. I think she needs to get a single on the radio. There is something wrong when Glee seems to really only helped Fleetwood Mac. (maybe it helped her sales a little but doesn't seem so becuase her album down a lot faster then Rumours)
I think a lot of people didn't like her last album, and she has got to find a way of getting people to hear the new material. This album has a lot of singles and yet, no one is picking them up. Secret Love is not going to do for her at all.
I cannot believe that country radio is not embracing some of these songs yet. I remember in the 90s hearing After the Glitter Fades on a country radio station and hearing the announcer say it's his absolute favorite Stevie Nicks song. Hell, Stevie is more country then 40% of country artists. At least she has written some really good country songs. It's time for her to have a hit on country. They play Bon Jovie but not Stevie. Huh?
This woman does not a radio format anymore. Classic rock is basically dead. So is 80s rock. It seems like she has no where to turn and the A/C stuff is blah. People will listen to it but not buy it.

The reason Glee helped Fleetwood Mac and not Stevie was because it was centered on Fleetwood Mac, specifically Rumours. I wonder how many people who went out and bought Rumours went out and bought any other FM albums? Probably very few. Had WB put a commercial for Stevie's album on there tho, it would have definitely increased the sales. People aren't not buying Stevie's new album because they didn't like TISL, they aren't buying it because they don't even know about it. Singles are promotion, and WB lack of releasing anymore is clear evidence that Stevie needs to give them the boot.

I wonder that too, until I realized that buying airtime for a commercial for Glee would of a cost a small fortune. Still, they should of found some way of tie it in. Fleetwood Mac's greatest hits also sold a lot of copies.
Not all singles are positive promotions. A lot of people hear the first single and assume its the best song on the album. If they don't like it, they blow off the album. I just think Secret Love is more for her fans and the rest of the world is not loving it.
Alot of people do know about the album and are not buying it by the way. I've been on twitter and typed in keywords and have been on facebook. The moonlight thing really has not taken off. I remember being in a club when TISL was just out and there were people talking about the album and the overwhelming consensus was MISSED OPPORTUNITY. People were expecting her to pull a Tina Turner and that album had no REAL hits. Had she put this album out then, I'm sure it would of done a lot better than TISL and maybe gotten a lot more knew fans eagerly awaiting her next album.
People don't really know what they are going to get with her. At the Las Vegas show Stevie told the audience "Please give my new CD a chance. I think you will like it.". I wish people would.

I am looking forward to tonight's DWTS appearance with great anticipation. Not only because, hullo, it's Stevie frickin' Nicks! More than anything, it's because this is the make-or-break point for Stevie and this new album. There isn't a larger public platform in the entire country, perhaps the world, for presenting one's music. This is it. This appearance will either resonate strongly with the world and IYD will surge in popularity, or it will do absolutely nothing to stanch the loss of sales over time. And if it really does nothing, then it's game over for this album. And perhaps it may be game over for Stevie's mainstream popularity as well. It is important for people who have not seen/heard from Stevie in many years to be reminded that she is still making terrific music and that she is still an engaging, charismatic vocalist. Given her recent health issues and her erratic live television performance as of late, as much as I hate to admit this, I wish there was a way her performance could be pre-taped or lip synched. There is absolutely too much to lose and everything to gain with this performance. I honestly believe that "Secret Love" does have mainstream hit potential and that if she can sound at least as good as she does on the CD, then it will go over very, very well. I am hoping that Dave Stewart is being called in to help tweak the live arrangement; I have always thought it sounded a little dissonant and flat to me.

Secret Love was a disastrous choice of lead single.
Also, Stevie cares... a lot. Desperation was palpable as she thanked Ellen for the opportunity to push her album and how important it was for her that the album sells. And, by the way, I agree with Stevie (though perhaps for different reasons). I believe that the the popularity of this album is essential for any hope of civilization cotinuing.

I think it's become an expectation -- almost a cliche -- that older rock/country acts reinvent themselves as roots acts to receive widespread attention. It's like the public and rock critics expect musicians, once they reach 60, to strip away all pretense, use minimal instrumentation and sing in a gravelly voice about redemption. Think Marianne Faithfull, Johnny Cash in the Rick Rubin years (and to some extent Neil Diamond, also working with Rubin), Dolly Parton's latest stuff or Loretta Lynn's album with Jack White. Remember that one reviewer that said Stevie should have sung about hard-learned lessons from her past or whatever? That's what I'm talking about.
Stevie is flouting that expectation by releasing a glossy, very produced album (and lead single) that's clearly looking for pop relevance. It's certainly her right to do so, but I think most people don't buy it. I'm not saying whether that's right or wrong. Just the way it seems to be. And that's part of why I think she should release "For What It's Worth" as her next single - it's the most real song on the album.

I think the reason why she doesn't sell so well, is because WB's seem to release mostly the wrong opening singles, i remember hearing Everyday on video hits back in 2001, that song was so bland, dull & boring.. What were they thinking??? so i didn't bother buying that Album TISL, until i discovered the Ledge in 2009, after hearing so many positive comments, i then purchased TISL which is a great album. If only they released perhaps TISL as the first single then POTU after that would of been a much better choice.. Now speaking of IYDs, Secret Love is a good song & i love it, but casual fans or potential new fans obviously have not been blown away with it, so the earlier they release Moonlight or whatever, the better chance the Album will stay highish on the charts a lot longer.

I will say that I agree....Single choices have been appalling. Secret Love is rather bland and never grabbed me. And CTF...it was like holy sh*tballs, not again. Luckily Those 2 were the weakest tracks on a wonderful album. unfortunately those tracks won't do any favors for public interest....if they want to move units

Absolutely.
The two weakest tracks are the two singles.
Why didn't they release a new single a week or two before the album release?
The following all have obvs single potential (even some could use a radio edit ;) ):
in your dreams
moonlight
annabel lee
everybody loves you
ghosts are gone
Plus any of the above lend themselves to remixing or guest spots (yes, even by a rapper) that are typical of single releases these days.
Also, a real REAL music video director might have done something interesting with these songs (each of which lend themselves to evocative visuals--these songs have sweep).
Also, when I make my ten fav singles lists of the year, I always find I list uptempo songs and then maybe a ballad or two if they make me cry. If any of the above were released as a single, they'd be my favorite single of the year (currently it's either "Alphaville" by Bryan Ferry or "Together" by the Pet Shop Boys). "Secret Love," meanwhile, doesn't make my current Top 10 of the year--as much as I truly do love that song.
Secret Love has zero potential. The proof is in the pudding.
I'll admit my recommendations are all conjecture coloured by my tastes.

Releasing Secret Love as the first single followed by Cheaper Than Free was absolutely the stupidest thing to do especially for an artist like Stevie. Why would you put out the weakest songs when you're trying to sell records, I think she should've put out In Your Dreams first followed by Moonlight and then Annabel Lee all within a 3 month period leading up to her album's release. Her continuously singing Secret Love or any of her old hits on TV is going to do absolutely Jack S*** for sales.

Eh, I knew she would debut well...she's got a lot of fans! I think her drop is probably in about the right area. DWTS will boost this. I think more of her sales come from physical media (CD) rather than digital as she is still doing well on amazon.com (CD).
Paul Simon's new release is now creeping up the charts after an initial slow start and he's hardly had much marketing (that I've seen).

I think it would be perfect if WB did the same for stevies album now over pieces of the filmed songs and snippets of Soundstage.

I really, really do not understand the people who say that "Secret Love" was a horrible single and that In Your Dreams could have done better had a different song been selected as the lead single. On what could anybody be basing that? Nothing but pure speculation.
She debuted at #6, which is quite respectable. They certainly did something right to get her to that point. It's entirely plausible that lots of people bought the CD *because* "Secret Love" was the lead single.

Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but IYD debuted at #24 on the Australian ARIA Albums Chart this week, and at #18 on the Digital Albums Chart.

But seriously, given that I've seen virtually no promotion of this album anywhere (where's Molly when you need him?), I think it is a pretty decent effort.

Josh2003: I sort of feel the same way. I think "Secret Love" is a great song. I can see why they went with it as a single. I think "Secret Love"'s slow climb up the AC chart is partially what makes people think that another song might have made a bigger splash.
I think where other people are coming from is that they see a lot of other songs on IYD which are as amazing or perhaps more so (depends on one's point of view of course). I can see some of this point of view:
"In Your Dreams" might have been a better first single because it's uptempo and very catchy.
"Moonlight" might have been a better first single because it's widely cited as one of the best (by many people THE best) song on the album. And it's very "Mystical Nicks" in style.
Those two songs get cited most often by people as either "shoulda been first single" or "should be released NOW". Lots of other songs on the album get cited as well but not in terms of mass appeal like those two.
For me, "Secret Love" was a good first single and now that the video is out and Stevie has been performing it (on Ellen, in concert and soon on Dancing With The Stars), the song has been slowly moving upwards on the AC chart. I don't think Stevie or the record company are going to release a new single while "Secret Love" is still climbing. I also believe that they are going for a long sustained 'slow burn' in sales. Hopefully Nicks will tour to support this album, WB will release at least two more singles off of it, and the eventual release of the Stewart-produced movie will goose sales as well.

I can hear Mick now telling Stevie to tour in true Mac form/fashion. Mick always believed in touring to promote albums. Back in the day poor Stevie & Chris had to tour the country riding in rented station wagons and sleeping on top of what they could find to support the White Album. And it was that tour back then that rose FM up entered into stardom and Rumours that sealed it!
Stevie isn't a spring chicken anymore so touring may be rough for her if she pushes herself too much. In my humble SN opinion it seems to me she may not because she said she doesn't care if it sell or not....etc. She did it for herself and what she believes in, not the record companies. I hope she will decide to tour. I've yet to see her in concert. With TIS I missed it because I had summer classes that yr working on my Masters when she came to Virginia Beach. Then FM didn't come near when we lived in Arkansas. Then I missed Unleashed last yr because they cancelled Greensboro and never rescheduled. And with Rockin Rod they didn't come near NC/VA. So it would be great to see her in concert or FM for that matter.

Secret Love is a nice song, but after hearing the album its not even one of the best cuts. Everyone here who has followed Stevie's career knows the way she works. Secret Love is one of the easiest songs for Stevie Sing, it gave her some talking points and that is why it was probably chosen.
Both Dave's didn't seem enthused that it was chosen. In the end, it was Stevie's call and she is good at making decisions for the wrong reasons. In Your Dreams, Moonlight, Italian Summer might be a little hard for her to do night after night. Honestly, at this stage of the game who cares if she has to do the songs live. She has basically cancelled her tour. She didn't perform any of other songs her last concert. She needs to put her best foot forward.
There has to be some surprise with this album. In Your Dreams or Cheaper than Free have to be picked up by country stations. The A/C thing isn't going to sale albums. Country plays videos. Moonlight is going to have to catch on with Twilight fans and Italian Summer is going to have to catch on with romantics or maybe the housewives of New Jersey.
If this were the 80s or early 90s I would say You May Be One and Everybody Loves You would be definite hits. Infact, You May Be One is the song I keep coming back too. No one however seems to be jumping on Stevie's bandwagon.
I really think the only way she has a chance for a TOP 40 hit is through sales from iTunes singles chart. Radio does not like her anymore.

Has there been any confirmation about who/what/when/why " Secret Love" was selected as IYD's first single? If not, I don't think its worthwhile to base criticisms on the assumption that Stevie chose "Secret Love" as the lead single, never mind chose it because it's easy to sing. Warner Music Group's methodology is to employ focus groups, polling (i.e. ratethemusic surveys, etc.), and programmer feedback to identify the track with the most widespread listener appeal. "Secret Love" benefits from its length (3:15) because AC/Triple A/Top 40 formats are not receptive to songs that run past the 4 minute mark. (Eight tracks are over 5 minutes long, two are 4+ min; Secret, title track and Cheaper Than Free, under 4 mins.

I don't think Secret Love was by any means a bad single. I just think it is definitely time for a new single to be released. Even artists who are current and have huge followings release at least two singles by the end of the week the album debuts. Stevie doesn't have the massive audience to ride out a single for months.

IYD is just under 4 minutes, and I can't believe they didn't hear the potential of that song, and yes, it is fair to assume that what is happened, since she refuses to do songs in her sets that are hard for her to sing and she had to promote a single. It's not a bad song all, infact, its interesting, but there are way better singles off this album. She chose the standard, repeat chorus, safe to sing song. I'm sure she pulled the I can't do that live all the time to Warners. Was Secret Love even given to Top 40 formats? Was Cheaper then Free ever given to country stations? It doesn't matter I guess.
They might have to chop a minute off Italian Summer or Moonlight and make them tighter. Italian Summer repeats too much anyway. A lot of the songs can be cut down. I'm just wondering if radio is really receptive.
P.S. Steven Tyler new single is #35 on the Hot 100 this week. He sold 77,000 copies of it digitally and it premiered in the top 40. Now its going back down the charts.

So it does look like she is close to moving 100K copies within the first month. That's pretty good considering that, aside from a couple of disastrous television performances, she really hasn't been out there promoting the album aggressively. On its current trajectory, perhaps it will move 150K by the end of the summer. I'd like to think that one track will catch fire and become a breakout hit, but that's wishful thinking; WB has pretty much sat on its hands yet again.

You know....she is actually doing pretty well. I was looking at Amazon.com today for the top 100 in all music to see where she compared to Jennifer Lopez's new CD....which has been heavily promoted and was released the same day.... and it's all pretty much the same comparison, even on Itunes as well.
Stevie Nicks - In Your Dreams #7

I know I know. I'm just disgusted by what Twilight has become (I actually think they ARE good actors, however, especially her). Part of the beneficent spirit of the first Twilight movie was in the discovery of these new stars. So I'd prefer Stevie's video also be done in that style (besides: Steven Strait LOOKS like Lindsey).

So 1st month sales for In Your Dreams are approximately:
1st week @52,000 -Billboard Album #6
2nd week @22,000 -BillBoard Album #16
3rd week @16,000 -Billboard Album #24
4th week @10,000 -Billboard Album #47
I think IYD sales thus far (Over 100K) are very respectable for a veteran female pop/rock artist. Stevie sold just around where I anticipated she would during her 1st week, though I was hoping for a better 2nd week showing. I would be very curious to know what WBR was projecting for IYD, and if they and Stevie are happy with her sales at this point?
In comparison to her peers around the same age group with new releases, Stevie is doing much better than Emmylou Harris' "Hard Bargain" which debuted at #18 and is barely in the Top 200 albums in it's 5th week & The Cars long anticipated new release back w. Ric Ocasek "Move Like This" debuted at #7 with only@20K+ in 1st week sales and fell to #29 in its 2nd week to #43 in its 3rd week. The only veteran artist to be doing better ever so slightly is Paul Simon's "So Beautiful Or So What" - out 3 weeks longer than Stevie, but he seems to be having more consistent sustainable sales week to week.
At this rate Stevie is on track to sell at a minimum (150K) which is what other female singer songwriter rock/pop peers such as Sheryl Crow & Melissa Etheridge latest 2010 releases sold. But probably not do as well as Sarah McLachlan's "Laws of Illusion" which has sold over 280K in the US (though Sarah is far more entrenched in the adult contemporary world) whereas rock music has seen more of a steep decline in sales. Does anyone know what Hearts "Red Velvet Car" has sold?
If Stevie could get over the 200K hump I think IYD would be considered a big success sales-wise by the Industry. I just hope WBR is planning on a new single with a possible tie-in to dance remixes where Stevie has had crossover successful on the charts beginning with POTU(2001), Dreams (2006) and Stand Back in 2007. Overall I think IYD has performed thus far and would not be considered a commercial failure, but hopefully WBR & Stevie have some tricks up their sleeves so that IYD will continue to sell throughout the year. The biggest recent commercial failure by a female rock act was Holes' "Nobody's Daughter" which only sold 33K in total sales in it's 3rd week (then slipped into the abyss) - and that's with Courtney heavily promoting it, even going on shows like "The View" in doing so.

Before it dropped off the Hot 200 altogether Heart's "Red Velvet Car" had sold somewhere around 55,000. Albums do continue to sell after they drop off the Hot 200 of course, albeit slowly....so I don't really know what it's at now. 60,000 perhaps?
With "Trouble In Shangri-La" Nicks had hit around 180,000 after 2 weeks and that album ended up going Gold at about the 6 week point. I think "In Your Dreams" will definitely top 200,000 eventually since it's at 100,000 after 4 weeks. In order to go Gold it would probably have to sell close to 300,000 - As we've seen with "Street Angel" an album can be certified Gold even if SoundScan sales numbers are less. In the case of "Street Angel" I think the SoundScan sales numbers were 230,000 but we know that the album was certified Gold.
I do think several more promotional singles should be rotated off the album after "Soldier's Angel", particularly "Moonlight".

Keep in mind album sales suck all around these days. In fact the industry is selling HALF of what they sold a decade ago. This explains how Stevie's previous albums sold more but charted lower. This age of being able to download pretty much ANY album for free has taken a HUGE bite out of sales.
Stevie sold 50,000 copies her first week. Not bad for an artist who's peak was thirty years ago and hasn't a new album out in a decade. In contrast the #2 album last week was Brad Paisley's "This Is Country Music" which sold something like 120,000 copies and this is a guy who is riding his wave now.
If you look at the other classic artists on the chart now, The Cars, Paul Simon, Steve Miller etc, Stevie is selling right along with these people, she's actually doing better.

Exactly. Also, Stevie debuted at #6 with very little first week promotion. Jennifer Lopez, also riding her wave right now, debuted at #5 and promoted the hell out of her album and also had one of the biggest platforms in the world to do it...American Idol. So, Stevie is still holding her ground and topping the charts along with the contenders on the current music scene.

yeah, I have noticed that. The music business is doing only around half of what it did 10 years ago. TISL sold 109k the first week, and IYD sales 52k which is just like the music business. I think in a few years IYD may get up to 300k which is half of what TISL did. Unless, she pull a miracle. And it looks like there is no second single and the promotion has stopped, including the tour.

Promotion hasn't stopped. There are new magazine articles landing every week (in the past ten days national glossy mags Nylon, Bazzaar, Jalouse, & More) gay glossy Next has her on the cover, a flood of on-line interviews; the Glamour event & red carpet shots will keep offering dividends;
BBC Radio just A-Listed "Secret Love," which means its going to receive the same amount spins as new singles by Adele and Coldplay on the top radio station in the U.K. B & C list songs receive lesser rotation.
http://www.eurythmics.me.uk/2011/06/10/stevie-nickss-single-secret-love-with-has-been-radio-2-playlisted-on-the-a-list-from-saturday/
Another single is coming. There will be a tour. She's outselling Aretha Franklin's new album - released the same day as IYD - 5 to 1. IYD has already outsold the last two efforts each from Pat Benatar, Heart, Tori Amos, Cyndi Lauper, Deborah Harry, Linda Ronstadt, Joan Jett, etc.
Lead editor on the documentary Shane McLafferty - he actually directed "Cheaper Than Free" and was lead editor on "Secret Love" - is juggling Dave's documentary and Stevie's, which is now being augmented by the Wiltern Show. The cancelled NY show was to be filmed for inclusion. It's cancellation threw off the schedule.
On the remix front, Tracy Young might just have some good news for me when I see her on Sunday. Her remixes of "Planets" and "Stand Back" appeared on the commercially released singles.

I'll buy all of this except for Tori Amos. Her cult is at least as strong as Stevie's .She has not had a really good album since Scarlett's Walk but I think even her outright duds like The Beekeeper had strong debuts on Billboard.Do you have sales firgures to back this up?

There has got to be some reason for what is going on. The album was hyped, it came out and then NOTHING. Yes there are print interviews all over the place, but these were most likely all done right around the same time and are being spread out.
Stevie getting sick put the brakes on the whole New York, Today show thing, but that should have been just a bump in the road. At the start of the year Stevie had some doubts about heading out with Rod Stewart because of her own album/tour. I think most of us expected that as soon as the Rod tour ended she would "pack up her ribbons and bows and get back out on the road".
There has to be some reason to explain why the album is just seemingly being forgotten. Stevie has always toured for her albums, ALL of her albums, so I don't understand why this time around there's nothing. Even for "Street Angel" she made more appearences than is being done for IYD. Last August during her run of shows she said she'd be back next summer with a whole new album and new tour. So it seems as if she had every intention of going out. There has to be some major reason why everything is almost being abandoned. And no, it has nothing to do with the chart action of the album, she hated SA and still went thru the motions.

Tori Amos wishes she sold records like Stevie. It's probably why she recorded her own version of Landslide.
Tori does well as a touring act (3-4,000 capacity range), but she doesn't sell records anymore.
Current soundscan numbers, rounded up.
The Beekeeper (2005, 296,000 copies, highest Billboard rank #5)
American Doll Posse (2007, 152,000 copies, highest Billboard rank #5)
Abnormally Attracted to Sin (2009, 92,000 copies, highest Billboard rank #9)
Midwinter Graces (2009, 23,000 copies sold, highest Billboard Rank #66)
(A seasonal album, but it did have six or seven new Amos compositions)
Her next CD arrives in Sept on the Decca label.
From Billboard:
"Little Earthquakes" (1992; 1.9 million)
"Crucify" (EP) (1992; 420,000)
"Under the Pink" (1994; 1.4 million)
"Boys for Pele" (1996; 1 million)
"Hey Jupiter" (EP) (1996; 172,000)
"From the Choirgirl Hotel" (1998; 778,000)
"To Venus and Back" (1999; 458,000)
"Strange Little Girls" (2001; 395,000)

Agreed Tori has nutured her cult much more than Stevie ever has although recently Stevie has shown some signs of being more aware of us.The adorable greeting she taped for Night of !,000 being one.It may be dawning on her as the causual boomer audiences dwindle that we are who she has left.

I don't think Tori needs defending because no one's attacking. She's fantastic, even though the dedicated fans on her boards are so thrilled the quality of the past few albums and her alleged plastic surgery.
h I forgot all about her "Christmas " album that does validate your statement if you include it
I almost left that one out because it's limited sales period, but her two prior studio albums have sold 92,000 and 152,000, respectively.
I"m using the numbers to illustrate a point. I don't think people realize just how bad album sales are and how low the actual numbers are for Stevie's peer group. In the U.S., women over 40 are not played on Top 40 radio. Even Madonna had to have Justin Timberlake on her single to get played. Her last CD only sold 723,000 copies yet the accompanying tour is the highest grossing by a female artist ever.

BBC 2 programmers chose the play Secret Love using the same mechanisms and indicators that tell them what their listeners what to hear. If it wasn't testing well with their listeners they wouldn't have bumped it up from C to B (where it was last week) to A, which is the highest rotation a song can have on BBC 2, the most listened to station in the U.K. It's in the same class with the new Adele and Coldplay singles.

I don't think IYD is being forgotten at all. I think it's being nurtured along, the best it can be in this sales climate, with some really creative marketing moves (such as the Memorial Day push of "Soldier's Angel".....something else getting some attention for the album).

I think you may have misread what I wrote. Radio stations conduct market research to see what listeners either want to hear and/or are already listening to. They test new releases using focus groups or sometimes "call out" groups in Auditorium Music Tests (AMTs). AMTs are held in auditoriums with music played to a group that can then ask questions and make comments on the music. A newer version of this type of research involves Web surveys by which listeners can vote and comment on music. An uptick in rotation is determined by audience reaction and feedback. Secret Love was moved from C to B to A. If it wasn't getting great response, they wouldn't increase its weekly spins to the highest rotational level.

the other day I got a call from Melody Records letting me know the TISL Stevie Nicks poster that they received for the IYD promotion is ready for me to pick up.. I had asked what they did once they remove the posters from the store and the guy working there said he would give me a call once it was taken down from the store.. and he called.. and I have the poster... and I love it.. and melody records.. ended up spending $89 on the new vinyl that had in the store.. ah.. new but old... like Miles Davis' "kind of blue" and "Are you Experienced" by Jimi H. - beautiful booklet inside Hendrix's album.. very very nice.. ah.. only wishing IYD would be released in vinyl with an album size booklet.. "silly dreamer"
So Ms Nicks has sold 100,000 copies thus far.. I think she should be very proud.. I pointed out to the clerk at Melody that he still had Stevie Nicks' TISL posters in the store window and he replied that the album was selling consistently and therefore the posters were still in the window.. I'm like.. wow. a month and Stevie is still being shown on Connecticut avenue in the heart of Washington, DC... we love you Stevie.. please play the wiltern setlist at the 9:30 club....
she's still around and making a bit of noise.. although a little on the quiet side.. but sometimes silence is golden.. this album is doing just fine..

WOW....thats sad
Whats sad is the fact that one can do a simple search and d/l the record for free. Internet piracy has indeed practically gutted the recording industry which is still more prevalent than ever even after shutting down peer to peer sites like Limewire.
You must also put IYD sales numbers in perspective to other pop/rock female peers over 45yrs old. Sheryl Crow's 2010 record "100 Miles to Memphis" has sold only @150K copies to date. Sarah Mclachlan long awaited "Laws of Illusion" 2010 release has sold @280K to date. Melissa Etheridge & Heart's 2010 releases haven't even crossed the 100K threshold thus far, and Hole's 2010 comback album, which Love heavily promoted ( appearing on daytime shows like The View) last year has only moved @40K which was viewed as one of the biggest commercial flops of 2010. Music sales have not been spectacular to the rock genre in general, and even worse for the over 40 set. No one (female/rock/40+) that I can recall in the last 2 years have even gone gold.
Even new releases in 2011 from legends and female peers closer to Stevie's age demographic have paled in comparison to Stevie's IYD sales. Aretha Franklin & Dolly Partons new releases both only sold @10K in their respective 1st week, debuting outside The Top 40 album charts. And Emmylou Harris's "Hard Bargain" racked up only 17k in 1st week sales. Don't forget, Stevie sold 52K+ copies of IYD its 1st week!! Despite being sick, cancelling TV performances & concerts and being an old broad. And she moved a respectable 20k+ 2nd week and a steady amount since. So all considered Stevie and "In Your Dreams" are doing just fine. I never expected her to sell gold in this current climate, I was just hoping that she'd get over the 200K mark sooner than later, but by years end she'll probably slowly but surely get over that hump. Stevie's 70's & 80's female peers could not touch what Stevie has accomplished saleswise with "In Your Dreams" at this point. The only exception would be Madonna, and her last 2008 record only sold over 700K with a hit single courtesy of Justin Timberlake's help. So all considered these sales numbers are promising for a new FM record going at least gold. Lets just hope, all the stars align and Stevie, Lindsey, along with Mick, John and Dave Stewart all are feeling the majick to go back into the studio one more time (fingers and toes crossed:) )

It's not even so much as piracy that's causing album sales to drop, although it's a big factor.. It's also the fact that pretty much everything can be heard on youtube.. You want to check out a tune you've heard about? Head on over to youtube... with the ability to put together setlists etc. why buy? There's also other ways that labels and artists are making their money llike licensing the music to subscription services like Spotify, which is huge in Europe... or likefm or free services like soundcloud... everything is available to listen to. So even though actual album sales are lower, the awareness of the music and I'm sure the numbers of people that are actually hearing the music (legally) are still probably pretty high... It's just a different time with many different options to hear the music.

Good for Stevie for holding steady! Glad to see her make the double digits for weeks on the chart.

IYD dropped 23 places down to number 37 in England this week, that's poor.Oh well,as long as those that have it love it then it's all good
Ordinarilly, I would care. However, considering that she has had albums that I consider bad go platinum, it doesn't matter to me. This album is just good. She did the best she could lyrically. She puts tons of effort into this also vocally. Finally, after all these years I got a really good album.
