I can't get to eBay at work. Does the auction list the contents of the tape? I know that the lengthy songwriting sessions for the song "Rock a Little" are in circulation (high quality too). I would be intrigued if there are work tapes from other songs too. Heck, I'd even chip in!

This is the description that's listed:
ROCK A LITTLE:
This appears to be the work tapes that were used to produce "Rock A Little" released Nov. 1985
There is at least one work tape of every song on the "Rock A Little" album
One work tape of Talk To Me - says: "In My Living Room (chas)" ???
Plus 2 work tapes of "Tied Up"
One says: Jimmy, Come On Back - orig track / Tied Up (w/obj)
Two says: Tied Up - She Loves Him Still
Two tapes dated after the album release:
One: 2-4-86 tape of I Can't Wait
Two: 2-6-86 tape of Nightmare #6
Three (3) SPECIAL sealed tapes of "Rock A Little" -
Says: "LENT FOR PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY"
TIMESPACE:
The finished MASTER of "TimeSpace" dated 6-4-91 released Sept. 1991
Photo #8 is the front and photo #9 is the back of this tape
Note that the songs are in the exact order of the released tape
PLUS:
A tape marked Demo's, (photo #10)
a tape marked "Battle of the Dragon's" (photo #11)
and a tape marked "Belladonna" (photo #12)
HISTORY:
These tapes were found in a cassette case marked Mark Paladino assumed to be in the photo
There is little doubt that these are the "REAL THING" - I am cleaning up the warehouse
of a seller that purchases storage lockers that are up for auction. I have been told that they
previously sold a lot of Stevie Nicks memorabilia - these must have been overlooked <OR>
they did not see the value in them - I have spent about 6 hours just researching these tapes.
The little yellow tag's on the #3 photo are mine. You get it all - including my notes.
If you would like to know more or see more photos - Please contact me.
I am very anxious to see this extraordinary collection of Stevie Nicks memorabilia
fall into the hands of someone that will really appreciate them.

^^These look interesting! Shall we take up a collection plate? Does anyone recognize the id of the high bidder? We really can't allow these tapes to end up in the wrong hands, i.e., someone who will try to make money off of them or hoard them away from the rest of the world. Buddah knows there are plenty of greedy/evil Stevie fans out there who don't share.

Could we have finally stumbled upon great copies of "She Loves Him Still", "Jimmy, Come On Back" & "Tied Up In Promises" and an actual demo of TTM. This would be incredible! :blob2: count me in as one of the RAL obsessives.:)

Pictures of individual cassettes reveals a few titles unknown to me:
You Change Sides
Strange Misgiving
Why Are We Doing This Again
Not a Matter of the Heart
There are multiples of demos we've heard such as Tied Up, Chanel, She Loves Him, etc.
Some tapes are "Bernie Grundman Mastering studio"
I'm bidding and setting a snipper thing, since I lost the Heart & Soul tour itinerary book yesterday by one buck. Auction has one bid and it ends in few hours. Seller has great rating and welcomes contact.
If I win the auction, I'll go a step further and have one my producer/dj friends "help" with the transfer.

I saw the photo of this and it said w/ ONJ - I think w/ Olivia Newton-John...which would be wild.

Thanks for doing this. If you need anyone to chip in, let me know. For some reason I have a feeling that some very, very shady character out there is going to try to "snipe" it for him-/herself.

I have obtained so much rare material here, that I'm happy to get this into circulation on the Ledge.

There is one other bidder for the auction which ends in 3 & 1/2 hours. That person is using a sniper program that will automatically outbid me, so I'm waiting until the final 10 minutes of the auction as not to drive the price way up and then one of my friends will bid and I will bid, using snipers, so our chances improve.

Yes Yes Yes.....If these end up being great copies of these outtakes, this would really be a treasure trove. Chanel Chanel & She Loves Him Still are in my all time top 10 demo/outtake favorites! And I love all the others too. A killer copy of Stevie's vocal on JCOB would be sensational. Oh, Please....let this be the real deal.

Let this be a call to arms for every Stevie fan on the Ledge- we need to stand up to this shady character who insists on depriving the community from winning these auctions. If we can get every Stevie fan here to contribute, we can outgun any interloper who tries to outbid us. We will succeed in getting every last one of this seller's tapes if we stand united.

Yeah, I'll never understand people like this. It's one thing (yes, annoying and immoral as it may be) to make money off of hoarding these things then selling them in dribs and drabs... but to just sit on it, keeping it to oneself.. to feel special perhaps? Where is the joy in that?

Jeff, she had "If You Were My Love" and "I Call You Missing" from Street Angel in 1995, and would taunt me with them. This is BEFORE we all got the Street Angel "If You Were My Love" in 1997. I finally ignored her, but in Late 1999, she contacted me again, and she DEFINITELY had ACTUAL 1996~1999 recordings that Stevie done. She quoted from them, played snippets for me, PROMISED them to me, and then never came through. One song from 1999 Stevie wrote after JFK, Jr. died. I forget the other titles. "What Would You Do?" was one (not that recent song some guys wrote on YouTube "inspired" by Stevie; this is an actual Stevie song), and one with a butterfly in the title, I think.

Yeah, wasn't there a song title floating around called Desert skies, or Butterflies, or something that rhymes with that:lol: And BTW, I would KILL to hear "I Call You Missing" SA version or better yet RAL master version! But definitely would be really curious to see what they did with this during the SA sessions.
Sometimes knowing all this stuff is out there is torture. Thats why next time, we have to be more vigilant. I would have gladly paid more $ for the RAL work tapes, and been even more happy to share them with everyone. I'm kicking myself that I didn't get involved in bidding....:(
Hell, I cant count the amount of $$ I spent in the late 90's on ML crappy compilations on Ebay. I'm sure it was well over a thousand.

From the sound of her voice, it does sound mid- to late-90s.

Don't talk to me (no pun intended). I'm in mourning for Chanel Chanel RAL...
So close, yet so far away she cried. :(
P.S. I believe the one we have is earlier than TISL i.e. early-mid 90's. Don't think she's referring to Crow.

Stevie mentions Sheryl Crow on the "Chanel, Chanel" we all have, so it's from 1998~2000.
That's right. "The Shrill sisters." What year did they do the song for Boys On The Side?

Sheryl Louis didn't start repping Stevie until 1996. That's when the demos of "Planets Of The Universe", "It's Only Love", and "Annabel Lee" were done. Still the TISL era, even if it's not Crow.

Stevie recorded "Somebody Stand By Me" in December 1994 with producer Don Was. Writer Sheryl Crow was not part of that recording session. Stevie & Sheryl first worked together in February 1998, recording "If You Ever Did Believe" and "Crystal". That session was the very night after Sheryl's Storytellers on VH~1, where Stevie sang "Strong Enough" with her.

I really would have loved to hear this version of Tied up with Olivia Newton-John, but I really doubt that they recorded this together. I really think that this is just Stevie singing along to Olivia's version. I know that they have met several times over the years and have been searching for pictures, but I am sure that Olivia would have mentioned that to me if she ever did record with Stevie. Hell, both Olivia and her daughter both went thru there personal pictures to look for a picture of them with Stevie for me, but never found one.

You never know with labeled tapes. In 2004, when we bought the Street Angel Masters of February 1993 and had them transfered, "I Call You Missing" was on the tape's track listing (yes, so was "Love Is Like A River" ~ they're not the same song), but it was not on the tape. Also, several Master Reels were labeled "Christian" yet never were they recordings of "Christian", but instead were always mislabeled tapes of "Gypsy", "Sanctuary", etc. In fact, one tape said "Christian (fast tempo)". Or "Upbeat".
So, I'm wondering if "Why Are We Doing This Again?" is really the alternate title of "Long Way To Go". That would certainly fit better than "Not A Matter Of The Heart", which definitely seems like "Love Don't Fail Me Now". Stevie's very first copyright for "Long Way To Go" in 1984 is under the title "Have Fun, Tell The World". And tape labels have proven to not always be correct.
Just speculating... in my sickness...

Going off track here but I just wanted to throw this out: Does anyone else think that Long Way to Go is a response to Joe Walsh's "I'll Tell The World About You"? This song was released in '85 so it could have been written in '84 and Stevie was aware of it and so she retaliated with "Have fun, tell the world" when he pissed her off?

Master Reels are those old actual REELS of tape, some very large, some not so big, but they have to be played on reel to reel players of the Old School STUDIO variety. When we bought all those Stevie Masters in 2001~2005, we had to spend $$$$$$$$ getting them transfered in a studio and then copied to CD for the individual members of the group (everything in Daniella's thread is what we had done then). In the studio, songs were mixed and worked with ~ that's how the a capellas came about; we just stripped the music away from Stevie's vocals. Stevie didn't record them as a capella; we created them after the fact.
Some Reels were falling to pieces, crumbling into dust from the years.
So, if these are Master Reels from Rock A Little, it will also cost the winner a lot of money to have them transfered in a studio as well. So, maybe the winner will want contributions???????? I'd pay!!!
Edit: When I say "we", it was really a very hard~working woman who went into the studio and worked with the technicians to do all of this. SHE did ALL of the hard work, while we just supported the project with $$. Sorry I used the term "we", because creating those Stevie a capellas were 100% HER idea and creations. That's how many of the dance remixes of unreleased songs like "Baby Doll", "The Dealer" and more were done, from the a capellas she worked on in the studio.
I had the impression that the ebay auction was for the cassettes, which I assume contain recordings directly from the master reels.
Perhaps whoever bought these is a member of The Ledge and has yet to make contact? Maybe we just need to remain patient for a few days and see what transpires. I'm hopeful that these recordings will be shared. Oh to have quality copies of "She Loves Him Still", "Tied Up" and "Jimmy, Come On Back", not to mention the other unknown demo tracks, would be heaven sent!

Okay... it's time to stop complaining and start figuring out what to do about the rest. First of all, to the more seasoned Stevie demophiles (yes, I just made that word up :p), are the seller's other active auctions worth pursuing, e.g., the HBO broadcast master, the "I Can't Wait" tapes, etc.? If so, who will bid? We should coordinate so that we are not mistakenly bidding against each other. I am at a distinct disadvantage by not having access to eBay at work, but I am willing to help out with the cost...

"I Can't Wait" I would guess to be single edits and stuff like that. Alternate mixes? The bid of yesterday looks like it had the GOLD... But maybe these others are worth it. The seller made copies, obviously, so he should elucidate of what exactly these are. "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You?" would be amazing to have alternate versions, if it's not just remixes.
I've already stated I have money to burn, so contact me if any bidders need help. I can't bid at work, plus I don't want to work against other Ledgies.
BTW, I put out my feelers and NO ONE I know got these tapes, nor who got them.

What I noticed on the cassettes is that there is an 8:50 single edit (one long mofo of a single!) and then a couple of versions of ICW labeled "TK2" and "TK3." Those sound like alternate takes to me, and I'm not aware of any alternate takes in existence. One cassette says "All mixes by Don Smith," which is odd because the official remixes were done by Chris Lord-Alge. I've never heard of Don Smith.
I dunno... but I think there be some gold on them there tapes...
I'm certainly on board in terms of contributing to the cost of acquiring these recordings. Even if the successful bidder of the first auction does make these available on this forum, I still think we should assist with the expense involved. I wouldn't expect to get these rarities for free and think it only fair to help out financially if the person is willing to share any of them.
Don Smith is a renowned engineer/mixer and used to work closely with Eurythmics and Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, amongst others.

Totally! I remember reading an article somewhere where she talked about this. Just tried to find it and all I could find was this quote -
BBC Interview with Nicky Horne ~ August 27, 1991
"What happened at the end was I was getting ready to cut two songs with Waddy Wachtel producing and we only had two nights to rehearse and Joe had been off in New Zealand or something and he came down about one or two in the mornting or something and he was real good friends with everyone in my band. That would have been fine any other night but I was really angry with what Joe had done because he completely screwed up that session. He just had everyone dying laughing because he just tells a hundred jokes and everyone was just rolling in the floor laughing and I was going “this is not fair” because he is not being sensitive at all to this whole situation and “you know I would give up anything for you, even my damned career for you if he was serious enough." I had a limousine and I asked Joe if he wanted to take me home or come home with him and he said, “well, I didn’t tell you this but I’m leaving for Australia like tonight and I have to pack so I’m just going to get a ride home with Waddy” and I said “ok” and started walking towards the door and I turned around and said “Joe I don’t like where this relationship is going cause it’s not going anywhere and I don’t want to do it anymore.” And I started walking towards the door and he said “well you know, if you walk out the door, you basically cease to exist.” And I just din't stop walking."
(That last line, incidentally, sounds like that awesome Love Is Like a River outtake- "walked out that door/just started walking".) Anyway I don't think this is the quote I was looking for exactly, because I remember her saying something about him being in a different city from where she was and he called her and asked if she would drive down to where he was, and she, having the feelings described above, said "That's a real long way to go to say goodbye," then hung up and wrote the song. Anybody know where I could be remembering this is from? :::going to search more:::

He said that the album wouldn't have gotten made without her, but he's never said any of his songs were about her. Indeed, if you look at the material on The Confessor (http://www.joewalshonline.com/solo/confessor/index.htm), you'd be hard-pressed to associate much of it with Stevie. For instance, he explicitly said "Dear John" was about his former wife.
Joe rarely talks of Stevie, and only does so when asked direct questions about her.
Joe actually said some rude crap about her in the early 90s and made fun of her at his shows when he opened for the Doobie Brothers in 1990, but since he got sober in 1994 he stopped that kind of thing and now, on the few occasions he speaks of her, it's with fondness. I remember him calling her a "good witch" in a 2010 interview with Mark Lane that I'm having trouble finding, or I would link to it.
I'd like to ask him what he thinks about the things Stevie says about him nowadays! Surely he must at least be flattered.
(My apologies for going somewhat off-topic, but this is tangentially related at least)

Yesterday, I was mistakenly thinking they were Master Reel To Reels, thus imagining the enourmous expense involved in transfering them. Just cassettes is different, but still a lot to spend on things that are not described clearly. The Reel To Reels could not be listened to except on a very specific type of player, which not many people generally have, so we had to go with what the lables described, and sometimes they were different contents after the Reels were transfered in the studio.
With these tapes, they seem to be normal cassettes. Even if you no longer have a tape deck, you can buy a dirt cheap boom box at a pawn shop or something, to verify the contents. That could make them even MORE valuable, if you can label them as truly rare and of excellent quality sound quality.
About "TK1" and "TK2" ~ 20-something "takes" of "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" on the Masters is the same damned vocal as on the album. No "takes" are the slightest bit different regarding Stevie's vocals on that song. However, a different mixer listed on "I Can't Wait" surely does increase the probablity of these being actual outtakes, unlike all of those "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around"s.

I could swear I have a master-quality version of SDMHA with a totally different vocal. Remember, back in those days, they would lift a line or two from one take or another take, here and there, and "mash" them together into the final product. So there are likely to be scads of vocal takes of this. I will post this alternate vocal if I can find it when I get home...
I just googled, and Don Smith worked on much, if not all of RAL, so there could be some familiar mixes on these cassettes. But the 8:50 mix is intriguing since the longest remix on the official 12" single is 6:20. And I like that one of the cassettes is labeled with the word "vamp." And we all know how Mama liked to vamp in the halcyon days of RAL. I could just imagine 5 minutes of "Oooooh, we'ell... no, no, no, no, baby, I can't wait, alright! Yeah!"

I was thinking that it would be fun for each of us (on the Ledge, that is) to buy one of these auctions and then (assuming we can resist the urge to listen) we can agree to meet somewhere in the country and have a world premiere listening party of all of these unearthed treasures altogether. It really is like an archaeologist who discovers a new secret chamber in the buried city. We can have it catered and everything. Make it a red carpet event! But I must admit that the loss of the auction yesterday is a MAJOR bummer... now THAT would have been cause for celebration.

I used to be a Rocky Horror fanatic. And I'm not so much a collector of things as I am of music. So I never had to have the actual vinyl or a limited edition CD, I was happy to have a cassette (and now mp3) of whatever the track was. And I was always amazed when someone would play some super rare out of print recording of something but then refuse to make a copy. I mean, I could see if you were the artist and didn't want it circulated. But for a collector to get something and keep it to themselves just so they can feel superior over all the other collectors is really sad. How can it possibly make you happy to know you are making other people sad by withholding something from them?

For me personally, I'm more interested in paying or bidding on outtakes/demos that we are in desperate need of a premium upgrade i.e., She Loves Him Still, Chanel, Chanel, I Call You Missing, Something Exquisite, Tied Up...essentially just all the RAL outtakes and demos songs that have not been released.:xoxo:

Christopher, the point of my post above, is that there is already a contingency here at work to get these tapes for themselves and NOT share them with us or even allow those who have offered to contribute funds.
I offered to help, but, since that was rejected... Let's just watch~

Mike, I can tell you that I am not bidding on the auction. I think it's a great idea to get all of us on the same page here and not to work against one another when we all would like the same outcome. But I also don't think anyone here who has posted about this topic is of the mindset "every fan for himself" and would be intentionally bidding against another Ledgie (although of course I couldn't know one way or another).
I'm out of work right now (meaning zero income at the moment)... so I wouldn't be able to contribute much in terms of securing one of these auctions. However, I would be happy to contribute something if at all possible for an auction that's really worth it...

The thing I've learned with Ebay is to decide that absolute maximum you want to pay. Then, wait until there are about 15-20 seconds left and bid your maximum amount then. The reason is because if you want to spend no more than $500 on the tapes and it is currently at $300... well their maximum bid might be $375. If you bid and bid and bid until you are the highest bidder, say $380, then they are going to turn around and outbid you again. However, if you let them think they are winning with the price at $300 and their max bid at $375 and then you swoop in in the last 15 seconds with a bid of $502, the price will only go up to the next level above their max bid, around $380 or so. Of course if their max bid is more than yours, they win. Thats why I say choose the absolute maximum you want to spend and then add a dollar or two to it just incase they chose that even dollar amount too. That way, if you lose, it is because you simply didn't want to spend that much money on it and not that someone else got you at the end.

I have the money, and I know what I'm doing. I have no illusions of getting the tapes. There was talk of a lot of us getting together, private messages sent, offers of helping out made, and then... ???? What happened to all that? Kinda silent, huh?
By bidding, I was merely trying to illustrate the obvious:
There's already a group together with a huge spending limit, and they're gonna win, no matter what. But if they wanna keep their little Stevie cache all to themselves, I'm gonna help them pay as much as possible for excluding everyone else.
We spent THOUSAND$$$ on the Stevie Masters in 2001~2005 and we GAVE them ALL AWAY. No holding back. NO selling of them. We shared with the Stevie Community. But the snipers in the new crew seem to have their own agenda.
Fine. Pay more. And more. I'll help facilitate that.

Mike, I think that what you're doing is great!
For one what kind of ridiculous people would keep such a treasure trove from others? It's practically despicable. IMO, NO ONE has any right to hoard them and even worse duplicate/sell them. We don't even know what sort of quality these tapes are in, they could be in the same basket as many of the Stevie demos that are already in circulation - you know the ones where it's sounds like someone's eating a sandwich on top of the recording -
I say if they don't want to share, Then make them pay like there's no tomorrow!
Besides I'm sure that many people would be VERY willing to chip in for treasures like these! There are many many fans on this site. Imagine if 100 people chip in $10 or $20 that might not seem like much. But as a collective we could really achieve something!
So Mike if you do win, I would be more than happy to contirbute for such rare and incredible finds!

What I noticed on the cassettes is that there is an 8:50 single edit (one long mofo of a single!)
Was just checking out the auction... and if I'm not mistaken, (unless I'm looking in a different place), it doesn't say "8:50", it says "3:50" which would make more sense for a "single edit".

LOL... yes, a very understandable mis-read. Have any of you ever seen Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo? I was a Herbie fanatic when I was little and there's a scene (if memory serves) near the beginning where Bernard Fox (as a jewel thief) is trying to read a code from a notepad to turn off a detection beam, but he can't tell whether it's a "0" or a "9" and gets all flustered, complaining about how people write sloppily... very funny, and I always think of that scene when I encounter illegibility.

As exciting as these 'gems' are...it's best not to bid until the very last second, especially when there's a sniper in the mix. I've been eBaying since 1997 and learned very quickly that if I wanted something really bad I had to play it cool and wait. This gives the impression that the item(s) in question aren't going to sell and the sniper relaxes. If you're willing to pay a large amount for these treasured tapes...don't place any bids until the very end (you're only outbidding yourself each time you do and it's counter productive) I'd be willing to kick in a fair share as long as the bidder plays it cool and waits till the very last second to place their bid ; )

I tend to agree with that... and after putting out some feelers yesterday, I have determined that most, if not all of the remaining items for sale (not counting the videotapes) are out there but in very limited circulation. I am looking into obtaining these. Another thing I noticed about this seller is that he/she is selling what appears to be a compilation of commercially available recordings from B-sides, soundtracks, duets, etc. This leads me to believe that the source of all of these tapes may be just as crappy as the ones already widely circulated. In a nutshell, I don't think anybody should be wasting their money on this stuff, especially since the seller doesn't seem to have bothered to actually listen to/watch any of it.

This is exactly what's been nagging at me about this newly discovered stuff. The Rock A Little work tapes specifically. They sure sound exciting, but upon further scrutiny & discernment the seller only showed the tapes with the so called handwritten components. And gives no other real tangible descriptives about their contents.:( Anybody can write anything on a cassette sleeve. So seller, please in great detail, describe the songs and confirm the song titles in the tapes along with the sound quality  That seems a total no brainer and pretty basic, specifically if the bidding is well into hundreds of dollars if not thousands.

Also i was thinking of this HBO tape at work today . according to the photos .the paper inserts look legit ,also a note saying return to Modern Records.
I have a feeling the tape is the same as it was aired on HBO because the max recording time these tape are only 60 minutes versus the 55 minutes that was aired on HBO. not much room for any out takes.still I wont quit bidding.I will try.

He said that the album wouldn't have gotten made without her, but he's never said any of his songs were about her. Indeed, if you look at the material on The Confessor (http://www.joewalshonline.com/solo/confessor/index.htm), you'd be hard-pressed to associate much of it with Stevie.
You're right! Sorry, I misremembered the reference I was thinking about. I just dug it up from where I saved it in an old email - according to how I labeled it it's from a transcript of an AOL chat from 1985. (?! I didn't know AOL existed in 1985...?) But anyway it says:
"Question: Hi Walshy... Theodora here... with regard to The Confessor... what was the actual inspiration for it and will you be collaborating with Stevie Nicks again soon?
"JoeW Live: Well, Stevie was pretty much responsible for that whole album-at the time I was insecure, divorced and she convinced me I wasn't finished. I hope we write more in the future."
So, I don't know what that means, but anyway - sorry for going OT but I wanted to clear up my mis-statement!

The reels that are un-numbered, as in, the one's that did not come from BT.
These for example are from the list of numbered reels:
23) Stevie Nicks “Think About It” Reel #24 #8
24) Stevie Nicks & Kenny G “Dial The Number” Trks. 1-7 4-16-88 & 1-10-89
25) Stevie Nicks “Belladonna” 3-7-81 Trks. 1-3 Acapella version trk. 4
BT numbered each of the reels he had transferred, in the order they were done. I believe they were done by the same lady at the same studio (you've mentioned her name before), but they are distinguished from the original batch by the number preceding them. BT was selling them for $10 to $20 per title, depending on how many you purchased at a time.
The very first reels to hit the community were not numbered. The Julia reel with 13 versions is a good example of that batch, or the reel with Cecelia.

I bid about $100+ on each batch, but all four sold for about $230 each.

Awesome news, Mike! I was watching the end of the auction on the 87/89 demo tape and wondered if you got it.
I'm betting that the track listed as T.P. and T.P. (2) is probably Battle of the Dragons. What interests me the most is the RTTG demo on there.

Do you like my Pointed Post from Seven Wonders?~
"Sometimes The Good Guys Finish First"
No, not the 1987 Pat Benatar song from that Michael J. Fox movie, The Secret Of My Success, but the real world, here in Stevie Land...
Sometimes the Evil HOARDERS, like those who won some auctions last week, and HOARDERS elsewhere ~ ALL AROUND ~ in our midst! Sometimes, well, sometimes they just don't win...
Sometimes, trying to KEEP your Stevie Rarities to yourself, denying others these Stevie Treasures~ well, sometimes it doesn't work out.
Sometimes you don't get to HOARD everything and KEEP IT ALL TO YOURSELF.
In the coming weeks, keep your eyes open ~ Angel Aware! ~ for Stevie Rarites to show up for everyone to enjoy and share. Rejoice that the HOARDERS failed ~ well, this time!
Sometimes it's a bitch...
Sometimes it's a breeze........

Hey, in all this craziness, have there been any new versions of Castaway unearthed. The one from the Uncirculated Rumors is the one I'm thinking of, with the organ and drum machine and Stevie doing the mulitracked vocals? That's my ultimate favorite version of that song and the recording sounds like a cassette tape that had been left underwater for a few days and then run over by a car. Just wonderin'.

The slides all went to one or two bidders, who gobbled up everything even though the batches featured many dupes.
I bid about $100+ on each batch, but all four sold for about $230 each.
FYI: I believe this material is from storage at Rumbo Recorders, which was sold in 2009, and not some random storage locker/warehouse.
And in eBay scumbag news: this "Secret Love" promo CD is a fake, but people are falling for it. It's a homemade CDr. The seller has other items that are also fake. He also screams at the reader in every listing: THIS STUFF IS NOT FAKE!!!
http://cgi.ebay.com/Stevie-Nicks-Secret-Love-1-Track-Promo-CD-NEW-/280652006181?pt=UK_CDsDVDs_CDs_CDs_GL&hash=item415829c325
Oh I was wondering how this stuff is popping up on ebay.
This reminds me of the Ebayer with the Stevie Nicks Jim Ladd Innerview cdr's.nevermind he had to send me another copy of one set because of a corrupt burn on cd 1.
anyway I'm glad I received my Stevie Nicks Source radio show lps in mint condition.

I noticed that. What an odd marketing strategy. If they didn't sell for $9.99 the first time then jack the price to $25 and buy them right away?

I can *sort of* see the strategy in this - many people don't like the stressful hit and miss of bidding, and will gladly pay more for a sure thing.
It's too bad there just isn't anything interesting left.

So I got the two tapes I won in the eBay auction yesterday. The first is Imperial Hotel with two alternate vocals with different lyrics, plenty of vibrato in the voice, a bunch of whoa, well, and baby and they're clear as a bell.
The second is three different mixes of HAEWAFY and the original monitor mix which sounds crisper and clearer to me. My favorite of these is what the engineer refers to as the "symphonic mix" where Stevie sings harmony with herself and when she finishes singing the bridge (world) it sounds like there is a chorus singing with her. It's really beautiful. All of the mixes are different with different endings, etc.
I've been awaiting response from the person who was going to transfer these to digital for me. I may have to get it done locally or if there is anyone out there who can do it (and I trust you to do it right) please let me know. I am very anxious for everyone to hear these. You are going to love them, I'm sure.

You know, this is what being a Stevie fan is all about. I was on a Cyndi Lauper message board (my other favorite singer) and the people there were so mean. And if you were new and asked a question you'd either get ignored or have your head bitten off. And as far as trading concert recordings or boots, just forget it. These people were vicious. The only thing I can ever share are remixes that I do because I never have anything that everyone else doesn't already have but I'm happy to share them. And nothing makes me happier then when someone shares them as part of a collection because I know people like them enough to share. So the fact that you're willing to not only buy these with your own money but to have them transferred and share them with us is such a sweet and kind gesture. Thank you so much in advance. To quote Stevie... I Can't Wait. :]

That's a bummer about Cyndi's fans. She is a huge talent. I just got lucky in that I was around when this literal gold rush of Stevie material became available through trading, torrent sites, etc. Without some of the folks on this board I wouldn't have a whole lot of the stuff I have now. Back in 2001 when I won the Rhiannon print she auctioned off for charity she wrote "Thank you for keeping the dream alive." Well to me the dream is the music and if we keep sharing it we are keeping it alive. Okay. That's my sappy speech for the night.

Looks and feels to me that someone spit shined, shrink-wrapped AND re-packaged the Maureen L. demos and outtakes that were highly circulated and auctioned off on Ebay back in the 90's. I would highly doubt and question that these are upgrades, and mostly the quality is iffy.

I know that all of these demos are out and downloadable for free. If it's worth it to have them all in one place on disc then I guess they're collectible. Also, I can't tell if those are labels on those discs but labels almost always mess up playback on the discs eventually.

Thanks guys. I figured given the 29.99 price they were 'fan released' works that were circulated but you never know.
Thanks so much to those in this thread for keeping (or trying their darndest to keep) quality boots out of the hands of 'collectors' who hoard tapes but never share them. You guys are much more important to the legacy of artists like Stevie, than WB, record companies, or even the woman herself (in a historical and archival perspective anyway). Kudos and keep working, it's the only way we'll hear some of this stuff.
Incidentally, I too am happy to pony up money if people need donations for eBay rarities. i really think some sort of mailing list needs to be created for the purposes of people who will contribute in times like the one this thread was started about, so we don't lose auctions over a couple hundred bucks, which is chump change (IMO) contrasted with how many people would want to hear this stuff. And yeah, i'm as broke as everyone else here. :)
But it's unfair for one person to have to pay up. I know we'd all do it if we could, and most probably can. Let's stop the hoarders.
One other thing, I know this has been covered before, but I want to make the point again:
I run a small audio studio in Tulsa here, and am happy to edit tape transfers for hiss, etc, while preserving fidelity, not ruining it. I'm no 'audiophile' but I am good at digital audio work and am happy to help in any way I can in preserving and also cleaning up any demos, let's face it, some are unlistenable, even studio versions, due to hiss and other issues. Call on me if ya need it.

Hmmm... That original motherload of tapes has still not had feedback left for it, while other winners have given their POSITIVE, GLORIOUS feedback (and even been rewarded!), so I wonder what's up.
That motherload was pretty amazing. Makes me dizzy thinking about it! Maybe the winner is still going through all that stuff:
ROCK A LITTLE:
This appears to be the work tapes that were used to produce Rock A Little released Nov. 1985
There is at least one work tape of every song on the Rock A Little album, plus:
One work tape of "Talk To Me" - says: "In My Living Room (chas)" ???
Plus 2 work tapes of "Tied Up"
One says: "Jimmy, Come On Back" - orig track / Tied Up (w/obj)
Two says: "Tied Up" - "She Loves Him Still"
Two tapes dated after the album release:
One: 2-4-86 tape of "I Can't Wait"
Two: 2-6-86 tape of "The Nightmare #6"
Three (3) SPECIAL sealed tapes of Rock A Little -
Says: "LENT FOR PROMOTIONAL USE ONLY"
I have been told that they
previously sold a lot of Stevie Nicks memorabilia - these must have been overlooked
they did not see the value in them - I have spent about 6 hours just researching these tapes.
The little yellow tag's on the #3 photo are mine. You get it all - including my notes.
If you would like to know more or see more photos - Please contact me.
I am very anxious to see this extraordinary collection of Stevie Nicks memorabilia
fall into the hands of someone that will really appreciate them.
Pictures of individual cassettes reveals a few titles unknown to me:
You Change Sides ("Mabel Normand"?)
Strange Misgiving ("Something Exquisite")
Why Are We Doing This Again
Not a Matter of the Heart ("Love Don't Fail Me Now"? or "Long Way To Go"?)
There are multiples of demos we've heard such as Tied Up, Chanel, Chanel She Loves Him Still, Mirror, Mirror, etc.
"Ooh My Love"?!?!!!! 1985????
"Stevie Nicks - Rising Fortunes"
Some tapes are "Bernie Grundman Mastering studio"
Every song on ROCK A LITTLE album
"Talk To Me"
"Jimmy, Come On Back" ~ 2
"Tied Up" ~ 2
"She Loves Him Still" ~ 2
"I Can't Wait"
"The Nightmare"
"Battle Of The Dragon"
"You Change Sides" ~ "Mabel Normand" ~ 2
"Strange Misgiving" ~ "Something Exquisite"
"Why Are We Doing This Again?" (is it "Long Way To Go"?)
"Not A Matter Of The Heart" ~ "Long Way To Go" or "Love Don't Fail Me Now"?
"Chanel, Chanel"
"Whole Lotta Trouble"
"Ooh My Love"
"Mirror, Mirror"

I keep losing the bidding on these slides. This was the fourth package of 20 slides. I was second highest bidder on these at around $210 bucks. I think the same person has won all the auction because the winner is a sniper with a sky-high final bid.
If I won, I planned to share with everyone here since I have access to the equipment (pro slide scanner, etc), and the working knowledge to produce the highest quality output the 35mm slides. I don't understand the hoarding. If the buyer attempts to produce prints for commercial sales purposes, they will discover that purchasing slides or negatives does not extend a copyright license to generate prints. Neal Preston protects his copyrights.

I read through pretty much all 13 pages, and I was wondering (and this may be a stupid idea....) but did anyone contact the seller of that first "mother load" auction and just ask him/her for the contact info of the buyer. When I sell stuff on Ebay I always get an email and physical address, sometimes a real name, sometimes not, and sometimes even a phone number. Maybe the seller could be coaxed or bribed ;-) into "sharing" the buyers info and then we can contact them and plead... Is that even reasonable?? I'd do it lol
The same thought occurred to me, but I don't like our chances...

Yes, I've been working on that for weeks. Although I have a good business relationship now with the Seller, he will not give me the Motherload's email, although he did send my request to that Winner. It's been weeks with no response, so I'm doubting it.
I was hoping to work out a TRADE... but since there was no response...
