Stevie looks great, but I'm not feeling the horse.
Her face is round, a little pouty. Nice mood to it.

Is she inside a bubble???
It's perfectly fitting for Stevie, in her own little world.
But I absolutely love it, much less artsy than the TISL cover and more traditional! It's kind of dark and light at the same time, I like the whole "blinded by the light of the day" allusion.

I'm wondering where Perez got this? There's no link and it's not up at Amazon yet. Perez does have his connections tho and if Reprise leaked it to him first it's very smart, because his site gets more traffic than the Nicks Fix!
I like he cover but I don't think that's Stevie in the picture.

I think they did the bubble in photoshop. Ok, I love this cover. Not as much TISL but it's in my top three, along with the Wild Heart. It probably goes with the album. The album is supposed to be real, yet dreamy.
Does anyone else think this album cover is very Anne Rice. That's what first struck me about it. It's a little vampiric and anyone remember Dracula from 1979. There was a white horse in it that would stand on graves and let people know who was the vampire.

I love it but I honestly didn't think it was her. I thought it was a young girl that was suppose to be young Stevie, like the ones in the video. Obviously though now I know it is her, my beautiful, lovely, heavenly, fragile, Goddess gypsy that remains. I'll stop now :p.

This is absolutely gorgeous, and it surpassed my expectations as well. While I love the cover of the Secret Love single, it wouldn't have been right for an album cover. This is just incredibly majestic. A really strong and justifiable cover after a ten year lapse.
And the thing that immediately came to my mind when I saw it was, "Rhiannon." She looks like a frickin' goddess...

I don't like the giant bubble / lens flare thing at all. It looks quite... amateurish. Which is a shame because I adore the rest of it so so so much. The dress is gorgeous, love the incorporation of the horse, the typography is fab, and I love the earthy colours.

That's what came to mind as soon as I saw the Glenda bubble. What's with that?? I never associated her with everyone elses visions of airy-fairy-ness. But more dark gypsy/witchy to me. And a horse on the cover? I'm hoping this cover will grow on me.

Eh, I would've preferred a more simple looking cover than this. Her standing up in fabulous clothing, maybe a tambourine again over in the corner or a cool crystal ball. (ok so not total recreations of past covers, just not this..) Simple yet showcasing her mystique and gypsy-witchiness. This looks too fairytale to me. She looks great though on it. I would've just went with a different theme.

The stylizing is very Stevie, yet has a classic 60s feels to it too. I think the bubble is symbolic that everything seems "prettier and younger" but a bit distorted when you look through the magic. I'm guessing the cover is also very representational of the music.
While some of the type treatments on past covers has been sketchy, this one is right one the mark!

Ha, knew it! I'm glad they are embracing the internet this time around! I think even Stevie has begrudgingly agreed it's fundamental for getting the word out and selling the album.

It really looks like they totally transplanted her face into the picture. There is just something very unnatural about the shadows around her jaw line and decolletage. And yes, the neck is abnormally long; her head seems to float above her shoulders. For some reason I had this suspicion that they were going to do something extreme to her cover photograph. There was no way they were going to let a 62-year-old woman look like a 62-year-old woman. Heaven forbid there was just even a hint of age on her face, or perhaps a pronounced labial fold. But nope. They're going to try to trick the youngers into thinking they're buying a CD by a 22-year-old girl.

Anyone who is on a cover gets smoothed out. Meaning they get rid of blemishes and stuff using various photoshop methods, lots of blurring. Would you rather have her with pimples on her face and a big goober running down her nose? Her face does look angular because it's at an angle. It doesn't matter to me anyway. Vampires are plastic looking and eerie and they achieved what they were going for.

She looks more realistic on this cover than she did with that inside shot on TISL. Her face doesn't look THAT young, and she allowed her body to closely resemble her self, no shrunken waist.

I don't like this cover at all. Stevie Nicks and a horse? Like I said on twitter, it didn't work in 1983; it doesn't work now.
And the orb is just annoying. I can understand the whole "mystical" feel they are trying to achieve but it seems a little over-done in this cover.
I love the the forest background though, but I just can't see myself getting into this photo due to the fact that it doesn't even look like Stevie's face. It's too photoshopped. If they had to do all that, just take a photo of the back of her again.

I work in media, and every image gets photoshopped nowadays that is going to be in print. The rule requires us to even out skin tones and soften blemishes or wrinkles now matter if it's a popular star, or jane-on-the-street.
In this case, the "bubble" acts as a magic window to slightly distort imagery. It would actually be unrealistic to see her as she really is thru the bubble (which is the POV of the cover).

with the low res Ithought maybe her right hand
was holding a cane. but now I see its reigns. (?)
why couldn't the horse be small and golden. yes mike?
again, the synchronicities with the bella donna cover.
it is definitely askew. touch up seems very tasteful.
notice her right arm again though. looks like her hand is there too.
sort of floating in and out or something.
this is like a moving shot. she's init more than once.
this looks like how I believe it will sound.
totally understand those not liking it though.
at first glance, it would seem like the other new photo ofher where she looks like meryl streep in death becomes her would have been better suited for s cover. hell I was kind of hoping for a beach shot.
this one looks like it could have been shot in a oregon forest though, which I love.

I think it's a beautiful shot... But they may have done a little too much shading around her jaw line.. Her face is a little more elongated then heart shaped. But I like it... It's kind of like she's walking out of a dream world into reality... Plus it's got a bit of an antique look to it..

I Love It!!
However my 1st thought too, Stevie? A very young Stevie?
Still I Love It!!
I guess I was first put off by what I thought was them trying to make Stevie look younger just for the sake of making her look better or more appealing to the record buying public. And that still may be some of the reason they "altered" her appearance. What I can totally accept and appreciate is that this surrealistic looking Stevie supports the whole "In Your Dreams" concept of the album. Along with the white horse, the filtered light, and "the bubble". It's a clever marketing strategy.

Now that I've seen the photo in high quality I don't know what to think. The photo itself is so gorgeous but the editing of it just totally ruins it. From the nose down it isn't her face at all, whoever retouched it completely changed her face shape, mouth etc. :( A face like that doesn't need all that editing done.

Her face is definitely preternaturally round, but her eyes look so much like her when she's in her sulky mood, so I'm not really thrown off at all. And we're at a distance from her. If it was a close up shot and she looked like that, then I would complain about the photoshopping, but from far away, I guess anyone can look 30 years younger.
Heaven forbid there was just even a hint of age on her face, or perhaps a pronounced labial fold.
What:eek:! I guess you refer to the mouth. On her face. But . . . Not even the BN album cover photographers asked her to go that far.

Obviously this picture is decades old, but I still think it's a good comparison shot to show the difference in the structure of her face.

To me she looks like herself and age in this, just lighting effect and the way her makeup's done. I also thought she looked herself on The Dance album, just differently styled hair (a welcomed blessing) and heavier dramatic makeup. During the taped show she didn't look as dramatic and made up as the cover. I thought she looked good on the album. You could tell it was kind of hot inside that studio during the show. Sometimes I don't see how she survives in layers and velvet for 2 hours a night. Still, I'm not quite feeling this new album cover and hoping it grows on me. I keep thinking of some fairytale Princess Bride movie or something, when I look at it. Maybe it's the horse.

Her face is still very Stevie to me, but it does look somewhat off. That being said, I love it. It is supposed to be a dreamlike vision of sorts. She looks real, yet somewhat cartoonish at the same time. It makes me feel like I am in a lucid dream, where you see this and you KNOW it is Stevie Nicks, but something is off so you must be dreaming. I think that is what this cover is trying to convey, the sense that even tho it is very real, it is also very dreamlike and it leaves you in a confused, disoriented state of mind. Does anyone get what I'm saying?

If you think about it in the context of the Rhiannion legend when she rides the white horse out of the side of a mountain that magically opens and then closes it's kind of cool. This album cover really confirms that they are going to try to market her to a very young demographic IMHO..good luck with that one though.

I'm pulling these three comments from Perez... someones comment on the photo, or in defense of the editing of the photo.. Pretty much sums it up:
carrie from la
"Since when does art have the responsibility of representing reality? Art's role in society is to convey an idea. A theme, a perspective, a key in which to write, think, and sing, and a frame on which to hang the more intricate details of what the artist wishes to create. In this instance, she's portraying an archetype, not some kind of boring pigeonholed literalism."
dreamboat
"Whoever had the airbrushing chore for that CD cover must be exhausted. She hasn't looked that good in 30 years. I'm not trying to be mean, but that cover is a blatant misrepresentation."
carrie from la
"A misrepresentation of what? Clearly, an artist can't misrepresent their own idea. It would be a VERY boring industry if everyone had to portray themselves as-is. Study the history of album covers– it's tradition to utilize a character, glorified vision, painting, drawing, or altered personality to lend vision to the music."

Agreed, Stevie was going for an album cover that is purely epic for herself and female rock/pop artists in general today. There are album covers that have come about here and there from older female artists (Lucinda Williams and Emmylou Harris come to mind) where they are somewhat creative but definitely safe, and then you have Stevie's album cover, and she has gone all out. It speaks volumes because it's representing her comeback, and it's also representing how impactful she still is on the music scene.

I don't think she looks overly Photoshopped. She's photographed standing back a ways, vs. the up close harsher lighting of tv we've recently seen which can be cruel and make her appear more tired than she really is. That, and I don't think her best makeup artists always get ahold of her these days... sometimes whoever does her up makes her appear kind of drab and faded. She needs to "pop" like she always did, even at 62. And at times, her makeup is spot on and just right.

Right. Part of her head was in the RAL hat, but I still think the remainder of her face was squat, squished, slightly distorted. And based on other pictures of her from the same era, there's no way I think that was her true waistline. I don't dislike that album cover though. I just think this one looks less artificial than that one, which is not a criticism of RAL.
Comparatively speaking, it just strikes me that the IYD picture is no more unusual than past covers. So, I don't think they suddenly got desperate due to Stevie's age.

Yes! You're right on the mark with the classic 1960's style. I am a huge collector of record albums from that era, and this cover treatment screams of some of those classic traits. And, the horse just pushes it over the edge! Not sure if it's silly, ironic, iconic...but it makes me laugh!
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the unprecedented difference in this album cover: it's the first one that features Stevie in a natural setting/background! For that reason alone, it sets a more earthy tone.
The type is just ok. I prefer having album titles cusmtomized graphically, a distinct font, if not a slightly more graphic formation. Here the title is presented in small plain type, absent of any character beyond that of a text message.
If there is ever going to be any comparison between this album and Bella Donna, it can start with the cover. The former has a bird, the latter has a horse.

Michele
I didn't like the RAL cover. To me she just looked spaced-out. I didn't hate it, but it's definitely not one of my favorites. She did express some motion in the photo, that was kinda nice.

Like others here, I noticed her face looked off... when I saw the picture in reduced size, it looked to me like her left eye (to our right) is much lower than it should be... that's what stuck out to me. My theory is the image has been distorted, but I'm not sure it has been mirrored horizontally. I opened it up in Photoshop and tried to play with it, to make it look more natural... here is what I came up with (tilting the image towards us from the top, and then tilting it towards us from the right side of the image).
Here is the result... not perfect, but I think a little closer to reality:
http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/2594/steviefixed01.jpg
And here is the image mirrored, for anyone that thinks it may have been flipped... although this would mean her hair was parted (on the top) opposite of the way it usually is, right?

Surely this is meant to look like you are looking at it through a mirror? It has that slightly distorted look to it which is intentional (look at the dimensions of the horse - it has been stretched out too) rather than the byproduct of an overly zealous Photoshop job.
I love the ethereal, dreamlike imagery. I got a very 'Legend' feel from it too! The earthy tones and tinting to create a yellowy light is gorgeous, very fitting for Stevie. The photo probably doesn't resemble Stevie when she first wakes up in the morning, but since when has Stevie Nicks been about creating stark realities? She has always played up the surreal fantasy of her artistic persona. This is no different.
A classy effort that is worthy of a legend (pardon the pun).

a tiny bit, but all they did is add a layer in photoshop, copied the face, smoothed it out and basically cut holes out of the top layers to show what effects of aging they wanted to show. The wrinkles come from the layer underneath. In her case, they had to show a slight wrinkle or two, It's a close-up pic and they also used lighting to disquise things.

well barbara is not in a bubble or on a surreal cover, she's doing a standard safe cover and stevie is a lot farther away so they aren't going to go into her face and let some wrinkles show through especially when it's in a bubble and supposed to look eerie.

Having never met her, I'm still willing to bet that the real-life Stevie Nicks looks good for her age.
There is nothing shameful, halfhearted, euphemistic or rude about saying that someone looks good for their age.
'They' (and she's allowing it) have made her look ridiculous, and ensured that instead of talking about the music and how it's great that she's still a productive artist, we're forced to talk about (im)age.
Depressing.

Oh, it's soooo gorgeous!! :blob1: Better than I could have ever hoped for! Very evocative of the '80s movie Legend
I can see that connection. I loved that movie (except for Tom Cruise being in it, wasn't he awful?).
My first thought was Rhiannon. This is similar to what I was picturing for a cover when she was talking about making a whole Rhiannon cd someday.
The other thing was how it is made to look like a very young and innocent Stevie from the past. Then noticing her moon necklace in the photo - was it reversed imaging, or did they purposely want to have the moon be in the waxing stage, to represent the young, maiden Stevie?? Did she ever wear it like that when she was younger (I don't even remember)?
I like it. Wouldn't it be nice for a gorgeous, picture-filled tour book too this time?

That is exactly the way I fealt last night. When I saw the cover last night, I thought it was great and still do. However, then the complainers got a hold of it and ruined the moment. Doesn't matter what cover Stevie is on, she is going to be airbrushed and her face is at an angle. Of course, it's going to look asymetrical. The photo is supposed to be eerie. She's not even looking at the camera or smiling and she is in a bubble. It's an excellent concept cover. Not your standard, boring face shot. Somehow, some people ignore the brilliance of it all, just to find reason to complain. And I cannot believe people are twittering Dave and telling him that Stevie looks airbrushed. He's probably banging his head through a wall.

It is only when someone says uthey hate something loudly And repeatedly and believe they continue to need to repeat How much they hate it as if we don't know already how they feel because they have posted it every chance they get that it goes beyond voicing your opinion and it is just complaining.

LOL at all the horse hate. I wonder if in 1981 these same people were like WTMFH?! THERE IS A COCKATOO ON IT!!!!!!
That probably would have been me
For casual fans, this will be an amazing cover. It's eye-catching and appealing. But knowing what I know about Stevie and having seen so many pictures of her, I just feel like this cover is over-done to the point of being ridiculous.

I know! It's downright scandalous for Stevie to be baring her shoulders! But it looks sooooo good on her!
Haha! Louie, again you're delivered the Quote Of The Day/Thread/Entire Board! You crack me up! We really need to go out drinking together and say just how scandalous various things are!
Oh and yes, her look is GREAT here.

I actually had to leave this thread last night for that reason! It is what it is guys, let it be! For gods sake, she's dammed if she does & dammed if she doesn't! For someone to instantly blow the friggin picture up and point out all the flaw's
And yes I agree it dosent look like her, too young looking, butt so what! :D

I don't think I could have found a more perfect picture for the occasion...

Are you talking about me? I must remind you Ledgies that I have been a hardcore fan of Stevie's long before many of you were born(except Goddess Jill) and I have a right to express my opinion of distaste without being told by anyone that I am a naysayer on every level.
LOL really now, really?

As a thumbnail it is fantastic.
As a full blown up album cover it is atrocious. They have made Stevie look like a badly made up cover act, the expression on her face is soo blank - does not represent her feelings about the album.

or maybe it's just an honest assessment of how people feel about the cover - which I mainly like, but not the horse. He/she is so HUGE and overwhelms Stevie, who looks beautiful here.... a dragonfly might have been better since that is what highwayman rode..
It looks so pedestrian (not that horseriders need walk), especially since we know that despite her Australian conquests, Stevie is no equestrian.
I mean, just like Stevie regaled us by asking why all those chickens were there in CV, I can actually hear her wondering why there's a doggone horse next to her this time.
Of course, I wondered why they were all hanging around a barn in Little Lies too, but it did work in a strange way.
I guess I accept the horse as a remnant from centuries past and the mood he helps evoke.

I do love the childlike innocence of her expression and form.

Coming from the man who always says this is a discussion board and all opinions, good and bad are welcome, I am suprised you would post a haters gonna hate picture.

Well I like to think of the horse in dream terms. It's white (pure, innocent) and phallic. Animals are usually a symbol for id or super-ego.
