THANK YOU. I'm a huge Vanessa fan, and hearing a brand new song with an introduction by and featuring Stevie was absolutely amazing. I really can't thank you enough.

It's likely a nephew of her mother or father's is what I'm thinking. But yes, who is this guy ;)

The only person that I could think of to whom Stevie might refer to as her nephew would be Matthew... ?
Edit: After watching the video, that doesn't really make sense though. Who knows lol.

I'm sure it's probably some cousin several times removed...and Stevie just said "nephew."

Could really be any younger family member. It's easier to say "my nephew" than "my second cousin once removed." My mother often refers to her first cousin as her niece because they're so far in age, Mum feels like her aunt. Not uncommon, I think, to be flexible with these things.

Maybe her parents had lots of illegitimate kids we don't know about!

This happens in my family.. My father has a cousin who calls me her Aunt.. I guess that's just how she sees me. I don't mind it at all, I love being her 'Aunt.' haha.

For having heard the album "thousands" of times she sure doesn't seem to know the words to the song very well...
On another note - I've said it before and I'm going to say it again. I really don't see what the big deal is with Vanessa. Stevie seems to think she's the end all be all and given I don't know her personally she could very well be an amazing person but as far as her abilities as a musician I think her voice is mediocre at best and her stage presence does not blow me away. I also am resentful because I think Circle Dance was far superior without her on it. She kind of killed it for me. I will however admit that she's a great song-writer and that goes a long way for me these days. It's also possible I'm a bit jealous of her relationship with Stevie, ha! At least I admit it.
During the Sound Sessions thing on Saturday Vanessa snuck in at one point and went over and whispered something in Stevie's ear when one of the songs was playing and she was sitting next to Sharon and Lori. I wonder what she said??

Great point. After the paternity test, the kids are all free to stake their claims on the Stevie Nicks merchandising inheritance.

Stevie's eyesight must be incredibly impaired- those glasses are thick! She was very sweet and I loved how she said that Vanessa has opened for her for many many many years-lol.
Imagine how Vanessa sees her; what a lovely supportive friend.

I didn't notice it but then the woman next to me said "there's Vanessa Carlton" and I turned around and saw a girl walk in and right up to Stevie that looked like Vanessa so I'm assuming it was her.
Also, Jamie I was wondering if you got to see Stevie when she was lip-synching and rocking out during the new tunes. Your view may have been obstructed by the big poster she was kind of hiding behind but I could not take my eyes off of her the whole time she was rockin' out. I had a perfect view. Did you see any of that?

Yes I occasionally saw her becaus she'd step forward sometimes. Once she bent her head around and sung a line to Lori and Sharon.

When she says nephew, pretty sure she is referring to her cousin's son. He's a friend of mine, and indeed, he enjoyed Vanessa being there, haha. Who wouldn't? She's awesome.

CARLSBAD — Radio industry insiders packed the 14th annual Sunset Sessions conference in Carlsbad on Feb. 17, kicking off a three-day conference that featured discussion panels, live performances and listening parties.
Professionals flew in from around the country for the annual music-filled event, which was held at Carlsbad’s La Costa Resort and Spa, 2100 Costa del Mar Road. More than 800 people attended the event that included performances by 45 musical acts.
“The purpose of Sunset Sessions is to expose new artists by giving them a place to be heard by radio stations and music supervisors,” event founder Michele Clark said. “Everyone invited is committed to hear out these bands and at least give them a chance.”
Many unsigned artists performed at this year’s event, including Jason Spooner; Parker Ainsworth; the Alternate Routes; and Chris Amodeo.
“It’s all about the new artists, but I always like to bring in a couple of favorites and known artists,” Clark said. “We actually got Stevie Nicks to play with Vanessa Carlton Saturday night; that was quite a surprise.”
Record labels like Warner Bros. Records and Ninth Street Opus also sponsored Late Night Lounge events, highlighting established and upcoming talent on their rosters.
Warner Bros.’ Ximena Sariñana impressed the audience with tracks off her first English language album, while Iron & Wine received crowd requests to perform his older work.
“I remember what it was like the first time I heard Iron & Wine’s ‘Lion’s Mane’ and I love having a job where I can share that same feeling with other people,” Tim Johnston of Boise, Idaho’s KRVB station said before Iron & Wine’s performance.
Other events included a screening of movie “May I Be Frank”; an album preview and interview session with Stevie Nicks; a panel to review up-and-coming radio singles; and an interactive discussion exploring how music supervisors select songs for film and television.
Clark first launched Sunset Sessions based on her experience with independent radio promotions. “I thought if I can get these bands to play in front of these radio stations and music supervisors, it will help them understand what these bands are all about,” she said.
Sunset Sessions has significantly grown since Clark’s first event, which featured nine bands and was attended by 90 people. For the first time, she is also hosting a summer installment that will feature alternative rock this June, also at La Costa Resort and Spa.
“Literally, we’re working right up until the last minute and it makes me crazy,” she said. “It’s a lot of work but ultimately, it’s extremely gratifying.”

Boy, those two voices just don't blend well at all, in my opinion. Their vocal clashing is vaguely reminiscent of Stevie's duetting Strong Enough with Sheryl Crow during her VH1 Storytellers. Stevie used to be such a divine harmonizer... but she doesn't seem to play well with others these days :(.

Stevie does should not be doing the low harmony on songs, period, since it's not an appealing part of her range. That's why she has never sounded good harmonizing with women- Vanessa, Taylor Swift, Sheryl Crow, etc. It's much better when her voice can float high above a male voice!

Seriously. I wonder how long she's known Vanessa? Her uncle, Larry Carlton, a renowned session player, was part of the Les Paul Award tribute thing for Lindsey last month.

Interesting. So, when Lindsey played on Vanessa's record, he probably did it because he knew her uncle.

This reminds me of Destiny Rules when Stevie tells Lindsey he has the high harmony and she points, just in case he can't grasp that.
I thought Too Far From Texas was pretty good, maybe because there wasn't that great deal of a contrast between Natalie and Stevie's ranges.

Probably. That's what I was thinking too. May have known him a long, long time. I read that Larry was doing session work in the early '70's. Interesting. Of course, it's funny to me that neither one of them have done anything to help out Colbie Caillat....
