I'm always having these random thoughts about Stevie that I want to share with you guys so I'm starting a thread for it since none exists. Kind of like the " Just Thought I'd Share" thread in the Chit-Chat forum but this one will be Stevie-related. So if you have something Stevie related you just want to share or ask and there's no thread for it post it here! :)
Here's mine for the day: I'm really pissed at myself! Back in the beginning of 2009 I was in a Stevie/FM lull but of course I was still going to the shows when they announced the dates for Unleashed. I bought tickets to Anaheim and Los Angeles. Well by the time the shows rolled around I was still stuck in a lull but went to the shows anyway. I thought I'd me more excited as the shows grew closer and I did a little but not much. Well to make a long story short I had 3rd row seats in Anaheim and 5th row seats in Los Angeles (and paid a bundle!) but for some stupid reason I decided to leave before Silver Springs (the encore) to avoid the crowds and get the heck out of the arenas. The thing is I knew before-hand SS was the encore yet I still chose to leave BOTH TIMES! How dumb was that? I would die right now to see FM do SS live (although I have seen it before)! I just can't figure out what could have been going through my mind at the tine . I would never do that today . At the time I thought it was worth it to go just for Storms but to this day I still regret my horrible decision to leave before Silver Springs. JTIS.

When I was really young (around 8 or 9) I thought Stevie was pretty but that she'd be so much prettier if she had blue eyes .

I thought the same thing. The older I've gotten, I've really learned to appreciate brown eyes though. You really have to spend time exploring brown eyes since they're so dark... which I think is cool. They tend to be more veiled and intense... which I like.

I think they would wash her out a little if she did. She's more of an earth tone kind of gal, I think. I just wish she'd wear more colours than her traditional black these days. I would love her to resurrect her Maroon outfits with her gorgeous shawls. Maybe throw in some leaf greens and browns. But maybe I'm biased because they're my favourite colours to wear too lol.

Me too! Now I couldn't imagine her with blue eyes. Someone should photoshop a shot though, I'd be curious what she'd look like...

A lot of folks like to scurry out of the arenas before the encores to beat the traffic. I've never been one of them. I let everybody leave and I wander around for a while and I'm usually the last one to leave the arena. I enjoy watching the crew take apart the stage and how fast they can do it.

I know right and that's what I usually do but for some reason I was just a fool! I also enjoy watching the drunk people stagger out of their seats to the parking lot rambling about the show lol.

Sometimes, during random moments of the day, I will catch myself wondering what type of fabulous thing Stevie is doing. This usually happens during my mundane job!

Noooooooo.....Stevie's brown eyes are one of her finest features! I cannot even fathom thinking of her with blue eyes  Her doe eyed brown eyes are so full of expression and mystery. I use to marvel at her beautiful soulful brown eyes when her HBO in concert would air back in the early 80's. I was hypnotized.

I find myself singing along to Stevie songs in my head at the worst moments; such as in class or during a lecture, and then wondering what on earth the teacher is on about.

As much as I love Silver Springs, the band (and Stevie) really haven't done it justice since the Dance tour. On the Unleashed tour here in Nashville, she didn't hit any of the high notes (which we know she can easily hit), and she didn't make the ending memorable at all. In fact, during the "follow you down/never get away" part, she and Lindsey didn't even look at each other. I found myself wishing I actually had left the arena early. Apparently, according to other Stevie fans I correspond with in different cities, Silver Springs was lackluster in other venues as well. You might have done yourself a favor.

I have always wondered this too!!
I always find myself thinking obscure things throughout the day about Stevie. What she's doing, what she did on the tour bus on the Mirage tour, what she ate for dinner on her 40th birthday

Shortly after I moved to LA in 99 Stevie did a series of shows at the House of Blues. I wanted to go but for whatever reason, money, time, whatever, I didn't go. I've seen her and the Mac several times over the years but have never had good seats, I was always way far away from the stage. Now that I've seen several shows at the HOB I'm just kicking myself. If my seat was at the very back of the house I would still have had a better seat then I ever have. Sigh.

Aww that sucks! To think I live 10 minutes from the House of Blues she did those shows at but was just not a big enough fan YET to have any interest and I probably didn't even know she was playing there since I wasn't in the loop then. Oh how I would die to see her there today! Guess I'll have to live vicariously through my live recordings :(.

Well, to give Stevie some credit she did perform 6 new songs from TISL on the 2001 tour.;)
If she performed that many new songs on this next tour from the yet un-named album, do you think it would energize her base of "tired set-list" grumblers to go see her live in 2011?

I've been having lots of random Stevie thoughts ... the one for today is how dynamic the lyrics to Fall From Grace are, even without the rock and roll music. I think it's pretty unique in Stevie's catalogue both musically and lyrically. I had reasons for this which I've now forgotten ... will post them later.

Hope you don't mind if I offer a correction? I've read and heard SN say a few times that she and Robin both loved the movie 'Julia', which is about a friendship between the playwright Lilian Hellman and a woman called Julia (duh).
Anyway, Lilian was the selfish, visionary artist and Julia the one who wanted home and hearth and kids, etc etc. (Can you guess who identified with whom in this scenario??)
So anyway, yeh, Stevie is Lily - and Lily is short for Lilian (Hellman).

Also, more white! She looks lovely whenever she wears white. Want more.

I've been hesitant about posting this but here it goes:
The woman is a witch, I'm convinced. I'm not trying to start rumors or re-hash something that has been re-hashed way too many times but 2 weeks ago I heard from a very reliable/non-biased source that she currently practices wicca. This is not to say she casts spells on people and rides through the night on a broomstick but she does adhere to some of the ancient practices and to be honest I don't see what the big deal is. Is it really that difficult to accept? So many people today consider themselves "spiritual" so to me this just happens to be one of Stevie's many froms of spirituality. Although I don't know to what extent she actually practices I really have no problem with it. I also don't know enough about it to judge but it seems to me wicca in general has such a negative connotation when in reality people don't even know enough about it to judge. So I say to Stevie, "Don't deny it girlfriend, embrace it and educate people. Be a witch and be proud!".

Agreed! She denies is for the same reason "Bella Donna" isn't "Belladonna". Her managers and her people let Stevie be Stevie, but there are parts of Stevie that the press would really eat up and it would not look good for her. Everyone was going ape **** over Christine O'Donnell saying she dabbled in witchcraft. She was dubbed "the crazy witch" and completely discredited because of it. Now I loathed Christine for her political views and some of the ignorant things that have flown out of her mouth, but her dabbling in witchcraft never struck me as odd or discrediting. But that is how the mass population sees it. For Stevie Nicks to admit that she is even wiccan back in the day would make everyone's preconceived notions of her to be true, and therefore they could deem her a loon. You cannot reason with 95% of the population.

I don't think Stevie is Wiccan because she has never been one to be ashamed of who she is/what she's done.. besides the drug addictions perhaps. She has said she isnt wiccan, so that's enough for me to respect that. Plus, she has sang about Jesus and has worn crosses. I don't know anything about wicca, so maybe they do wear crosses, who knows. I just know that she probably wouldn't deny it. She said it came from the song 'Rhiannon' and wearing black. She got so upset that people were calling her a witch that she got scared and wouldn't wear her beautiful black clothes anymore that she had bought. She's probably being truthful about her feelings. and we all must know that story by now.
I believe you, Steve's.

I love Cry Wolf. Wish she had written it :(. At the same time I'll never understand why Stevie puts other people's songs/covers on her albums when she herself is such a truly gifted and prolific songwriter in her own wright with hundreds of original, unreleased tracks . It's one thing if she collaborates on a song or it is a good friend or something (ie Tom Petty) and she wants to honor them but otherwise there is no justification. She must have a good reason but I cannot figure it out.

Maybe she just really loves the song and wants to give her own interpretation / whack at it?
I don't like that Every Day is a song she didn't write, or Talk To Me, but, they're two of my favourite songs from Stevie ever... as is Cry Wolf. (Just Like A Woman... not so much) so, normally, when Stevie does a song she hasn't wrote / cover, it's brillo.

I totally agree, except I Still Miss Someone is one of Stevie's worst covers. I think she really should have put something else on the album, Doing the Best That I Can; in my mind is the album closer, I prefer to think that ISMS doesn't exist :D

Cool. Does your teacher wear Frankenboks and an old lady sweater everyday, move like a robot, and do a silly lasso dance?
Also, isn't it great to be the person your friends and family think of when they hear Stevie or the Mac? People are constantly telling me, "I heard a Stevie song today and thought of you". I love it!

Today I was doing dishes when Mom is like, "Jill - I found a dress that looks like a Stevie nicks dress!" I dropped the plate in the water and ran there as fast as I could and there was a right awesome black dress that looked just like something Stevie would wear. Mom proceeds to ask me where in the world I would wear it. Seriously, she's retarded. Even if I never wore it, I still have to have it. #somepeoplejustdon'tunderstand

I just wanted to share with all of you sweet street angels that you won't be seeing me around here quite as often anymore because I finally got a new job! I am thrilled that I was able to waste so much of my precious time interacting with you all on this board over the last 3 months since I've been out of work and don't regret a single post! However, all good things must come to an end :(. I still <3 Stevie and you all just as much as ever! Any suggestions for Ledge withdrawals would be greatly appreciated. I'm so scared I may be going into a Stevie lull since my focus will now be on my new career but something tells me it's a good thing as I am moving on to a new phase of my life. Please feel free to pm me any time and know that I'll be lurking when you least expect it so don't be talkin' any smack!

I love Stevie.
Had some random Stevie thoughts this morning....except I guess they aren't so random because I've been having them a lot lately.
I was just thinking about how relieved I am that Stevie/FM is not associated with a certain season of my life. I have worn out a many CD during a specific breakup (Untouchable Face anyone?) or after a death of someone close or during a trip I took but Stevie/FM have been by my side through 5 breakups (wow! I just realized it was that many!) and 1 death of a very special person (my silver springs). Through all that there are only a few songs that remind me of very specific times and that cause me to hit the skip button. I know I am still able to count on Stevie to get me through tough times, and NOBODY can take that away from me.
I remember listening to Bleed to Love Her off The Dance album on repeat for hours as I drove back to Charlotte from Richmond, leaving behind a boy I totally adored but was to screwed up to know how to show it. This is one song I can happily listen to because I know I'm not that girl anymore and besides that boy was just a stupid man whore. he he.Gold and Braid takes me back to an evening I got into a fight with this girl I was involved with. She brought out the worst in me but I really really liked her. I miss that girl. The girls name happened to be Sarah and yes, I called her the poet in my heart. I call still listen to Sara daily. Isn't that weird?
Anyways, I'm sure we all have a million stories like this but those are the first that came to mind this morning.
On a lighter night, sometimes I wonder if Stevie poos everyday. I wonder if she eats Activa. This reminds me she's human just like me. Cause everyone poos.

Awh ! Stevie's music is also one of the things no one can ever take away from me, it's like, "I don't care what you think, you can judge me for it, but screw ya. She lights up my life & that's just how it's going to be!"
Stevie must poo. She sneezed during Destiny Rules.
SOMETIMES I wonder if she has ever had to go to the bathroom during a performance really bad. If I had to pee really bad I don't know what I'd do. Maybe those looks she has shot at Lindsey that look like she's about to castrate him are actually looks of discomfort or mercy.
Now see it's stuff like this that I heard that made me not like Stevie & the Mac back in the 70s. And really I don't care if she's a witch just as long as she's like Glenda, the good witch in the Wizard of Oz . I didn't like them at all, thought they were weird, & I wish I had gotten into their music then & seen them in concert back in the day.
On a side note; I also wish Stevie would change up her outfit once in a while. My husband is convinced she wears her black dress 24/7!

Thank you. Now everytime she wants to kill him, I'm gonna think she has to pee really badly. Maybe the castrating look during the Dance version of Silver Springs was that she had an entire Double Gulp (apparently, it's like 2 liters of soda) before performing

With regards to Stevie's toilet habits, my theory is that she's regular as clockwork.. She always has to go at exactly the same time - this is why she pops off stage from time to time.. and also why they can't change the setlist ;)

I don't see her ever writing an autobiography. She's always so evasive about her private life, it's just something she says to put interviewers off, 'Oh, wait till I write my book ...'
Maybe if certain people were to depart this earth soon-ish, she might still have time and find it cathartic to get it all out! :p
I also tend to think that her mother is a huge influence on what she says. For example, I think part of the reason her and LB always give conflicting info on when they started living together is because they were doing it long before their (or certainly SN's) folks actually knew. And the same with revising up when she started doing drugs, etc.
So I couldn't see any book coming out while Mrs N is still around.

I wonder if Stevie is going to bust out with Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You during VH1 Divas this year. I know it is a salute to the troops and presented by the USO which are both dear to Stevie's heart. Plus David Wild has something to do with it and we know he has already interacted with Stevie and a month and a half ago he had "another reason" to meet Stevie... Hmm.. Plus she could use the publicity! Now, I know nothing has been said about her being there, but I mean really... look at who has been announced: a bunch of young/new talent. But it seems like every year they announce the new talent and then couple them with some legend who was not mentioned. I'm not holding my breath, but I think there is a chance she may pop up!

Not sure if this is considered a random thought, but I went into the local record store yesterday and I was going through the Used Vinyl section thinking about how I haven't been able to get my hands on the Rock A Little vinyl (It's probably on ebay, but I just didn't want to wait for it to ship to my house haha). Suddenly, I stumbled upon the LP in all its glory! It had been used, but the cover was in excellent condition and still had a plastic sleeve around it! It totally made my day!

I would imagine it is very hard to go to the restroom in her dripping chiffon skirt and such high boots. I would think she either waits it out the 2 hours or goes in between costume changes which would be more practical. I can't believe we're discussing her bathroom habits though.

Random Stevie thought- For a long time, SN has been one of the best stars at not being photographed, like she'd fallen off the face of the earth, when she's not on tour.
When SN wants to hide out- all violet and blue- casual shots are scarce, usually. I don't think we've seen a new photo in 2 months. Hmm. Getting ready for March, it's coming!

Why don't more people love The Nightmare? From what I gather a lot of people dislike this song in particular and I really don't understand why. Honestly it's a top -10 Stevie song for me and I'm not joking! It has a great catchy melody, awesome lyrics "You cannot know a dream till you've known a nightmare", how true!, and it's a real rocker. It also has incredible energy and it's totally the RAL voice! It should have been released as a follow up to Talk to Me. I mean ICW is just as awesome but The Nightmare had radio hit written all over it. I wonder what Stevie thinks of this song in retrospect? If you know, tell her!

You're right..if we all liked the same things this world would be a pretty boring place! I was just curious what people find so painful about this song.
I don't really take into consideration if a song was popular or not in my judgment of it but there is something special about loving a song that was never popular.

Well i suppose it's not really important but I LOVE The Nightmare It's amazing, i love how she references her old songs, Storms, Sisters, Dust Woman. I think this song is a fabulous statement from a woman that went no. 1 with Dreams! This song is a realisation that the "dreams" of the past are not what they appear to be, "The dream took her prisoner and the dream was over but ... The Nightmare was not over" - It should have garnered more attention.
They could have released it as a single instead of HAEWAFY - especially the special vocal mix fromt the I Can't Wait Maxi-single. Or the other mix where they use "The Nightmare... This is not the world, this is not the world" as the chorus.
So let's hear why you love it, Or why you don't?

probably wasn't thought of as "single" material because it doesn;t have a very "catchy, sing-along" chorus. it does have marvelous imagery and a great vocal!

It's important to me! I love what you said by the way. I never thought about it as a contrast to Dreams. How brilliant!
Another thing about The Nightmare that I love is that it has personal significance to me. I kind of live by the line "You cannot know a dream till' you've known a nightmare. I'm sure many of you have gone through extremely difficult, dark times reminiscent of a nightmare. I know I have but the truth it you can see so much more beauty and light in life once you've seen the dark, nightmare-ish side of it. It makes you appreciate what you have even more.

I've fallen in love with Sweet Girl (demo/Enchanted version, not The Dance version). I did not like this song for the longest time and thought it was a bit too country but I can't stop listening to it. Best part,

HUGE That's Alright fan here  It's one of the best songs on the Mirage album. I could listen to it 10 times in a row and never get bored. The music is so up-beat instead of Stevie's usually dreariness. The girl could be more positive sometimes, ya know? Christine sounds beautiful on the harmonies. Love the demo too, Designs of Love. An all-time favorite for me which is a shocker since I generally dislike country. It is country-ish right? I wish I could say the words "I decided yesterday that I would leave you, I'm alright". I think it's the fact that with every song on there something is off. Aside from the awkward, sometimes horrible, lyrics and production there is something that isn't right. But on the other hand you have some amazing lyrics, and beautiful songs. I really think it can all be summed up in Docklands and Greta because I am obsessed with them lately.
As far as Wild Heart goes, the only song I really don't care for is Gate & Garden. Enchanted can be dull to me at times, but overall it is a good song.

Something I've been musing over while listening to Dreams with Deep Dish... if Stevie can still do Falsettos, why is the rest of her high range totally gone? I mean, I don't have a clue about singing or anything, but if she can get that high, why can't she hit the other high notes that aren't as high as a falsetto?
And, no idea where to put this but... I'll never understand why they didn't put this version of That's Alright on the Mirage album, it rocks! Plus, on the actual album version her voice sounds more like Rumours/Tusk Stevie than Gypsy and Straight Back do, while this one is more similar to those two songs vocals

It's commonly overlooked in her catalogue due to its familiarity I think, but Dreams has some really emotionally evocative lyrics that flow really well: "Now there you go again you say you want your freedom/ well who am I to keep you down?/ It's only right that you should play the way you feel it/ but listen carefully to the sound of your loneliness, like a heartbeat drives you mad/ in the stillness of remembering what you had, and what you lost."
Sends a chill up my spine!

Thanks for agreeing with me! I too believe it is easily dismissed due to it's familiarity and having been overplayed so much over the years but if you are able to set that aside and pay close attention to the lyrics and music you will be able to hear the brilliance. Even if it is simple, it's also true! At least in my life. I especially love it because of all the changed lyrics/ad libs we've heard throughout the years "... was it ever yours, you know what you lost?". Now some people would LOVE to have her take it out of her set list but it would truly break my heart but I don't think I ever have to worry about that.

I just can't stomach a Fleetwood Mac without Lindsey Buckingham in it. Those two goons who replaced him don't measure up in the least. :sorry:

As much as I love Silver Springs, the band (and Stevie) really haven't done it justice since the Dance tour. On the Unleashed tour here in Nashville, she didn't hit any of the high notes (which we know she can easily hit), and she didn't make the ending memorable at all. In fact, during the "follow you down/never get away" part, she and Lindsey didn't even look at each other..
I realized that too. I think that they got tired of the "look at each other" act and didn't want to perform again.

Today, I kept hearing Stevie's voice on the radio in all parts of the warehouse, "Edge of Seventeen" back in freight, "Gypsy" up front at "Will-Call", "Rhiannon" back at "Truck Run" (Where I work).

She can. You know she can.
I think the concert setting is what throws her off - the electric instruments and the energy of the crowd. She gets worked up, out of breath and struggles to keep up with the speed and volume of the band.
Stevie's live shows would be worlds better if she reverted to accoustic performances. They don't have to be small, but they should be unplugged.

So my mom's been staying with me and of course I've been playing Stevie non-stop. I had 3 Birds playing on the computer and she told me to turn it off because she's sick of hearing Stevie. She then proceeded to say that what it boils down to is that she just doesn't like Stevie's voice all that much (in addition to saying she sounds "manly" a few days ago and bitching about me being on The Ledge too much). She only likes Stevie's voice on some of the songs :(. Well that's heartbreaking! The person I love most doesn't like her voice! :distress: Apparently she likes something about her because she wants me to go to San Fran this summer so we can see the tour together.

My mother can't stand Stevie! For years before I became a fan, whenever one of her songs came on the radio, I'd be thinking "I love this song!" I wouldn't even be sure who was singing, until my mother would mutter something about "...wavering voice...fluttery chiffon..."
Since I worship my mother, and have a (probably unhealthy) tendency to adopt her opinions, I was kind of hesitant to like Stevie until a few years ago. I know, it sounds ridiculous.
Fortunately, Mum's a very good sport, and has accepted her daughter's adoption of chiffonhead-ism quite well. Doesn't complain, even when I play Stevie straight for hours.

I work in a record shop, and I had a (friendly) argument with a customer about this. She came in to buy a Chicken Shack CD and a copy of Rumours, and we started talking about Fleetwood Mac and how much she loved Christine. I was listening to her quite happily, until she said "Stevie was always very pretty but...well...she didn't have much else going for her. And I can't STAND her voice!"
She went bright red when I showed her my crescent moon necklace and told her I was chiffonhead

She recently got a new laptop and has none of her music on it. My laptop was sent out to get fixed so when I pre-ordered In Your Dreams I used her laptop to get my download. I often wonder if Stevie is indeed a single lady. I thought about starting a thread about this but since so many people get their panties in a bunch at the slightest mention of speculation about her personal life I decided to just post it here. I hope in my heart of hearts she has someone to grow old with. I know she's loved deeply before and she may not love that deeply again but at least someone to spend quality time with in her later years. That being said, I think it's very possible she has dated in the last 20? years and may currently be with someone but they're either not famous and/or she chooses not to discuss it with anyone and it's just a given to those around her. She can talk all she wants about being married to her music blah blah blah but at the end of the day does anyone really want to grow old alone? Actually yes, I think they do, but not our girl.

I wouldn't worry about her being alone. The woman is famous and has many friends and family to be around. I'm sure she's just always kept her personal relationships private for the most part and always been lucky to escape the tabloid circuses. She's never been a media whore and that is why I love her that much more. But I would never believe she'll grow old "alone". Come on now, she's famous, has money, and too many close friends and family and I'm sure it's always been easy for her to gain a man, if she chooses to.

Ooh, I like a bit of a gossip..... **tops up wine glass**
I'm sure both she and LB said she broke off a relationship with a younger man around the time of the Dance, which was only 13/14 yrs ago, so no, she's not been 'single' for as long as 20 years.
Some things about what might be on the new album make me wonder ....
'Italian Summer' is, she says, a love song but not about anyone -- so that makes me think it's one of her 'having an experience by writing about it' songs, like 'Kind of Woman' was her way of catastrophising how it would be if LB would cheat on her when he was on the road. 'Italian Summer' might be a way to experience falling in love as the woman she is now, but without the pesky complication of there being an actual guy?
'Everybody Loves You' seems to suggest that she DOES feel lonely sometimes, and that as many friends and family and fans as she has, she sometimes does want a partner in the more conventional sense of the word.
'The Ghosts Are Gone' is probably the title that most fascinates me, though. Because I do think she has been haunted for decades by various events and choices she made (although she'd probably claim she had no choice!), and that she needs to lay them to rest so that she can enjoy a serene final decade or so before departing ... *sob*
Whatever the truth is, I too just hope she's happy on balance. My own experience of life is that that is usually the best thing to aim for, as it's actually achievable!

I love this. This is also what I inferred from the title "The Ghosts Are Gone" when Stevie mentioned it last summer. Stevie recently said that this new album is exactly what she wants to say right now. I really feel Stevie is going to be baring her soul on this record in a way we haven't heard before. Being more honest and practical about the present and the past without any apologies because I believe she is finally in a place and age that she doesn't really have anything to lose. I suspect her lyrics on the new record are going to be less coded, less airy fairy and more straight forward but with her unique mystical wisdom. Even "Secret Love" of all her older vault songs that she pulled is one with coherent yet intimate lyrics that are very relatable.

Some Become Strangers is one of my favorite songs ever. I often feel bad though when I like a song that much that she didn't write. It's just not the same as loving a Stevie song that she did write. I will also add that although I am glad this song is on RAL because I love it so much, there were so many of her own orignal songs (especially from the RAL era) that could have taken the place of these ones she didn't write. I mean Talk to Me was a huge hit for her but she didn't write it. I'm not a big fan of the song either and would have preferred an original composition over it but I guess it served it's purpose.

i think most of the songs she records that she didn't write touch a nerve for her. i, too, looooooove SBS! i think the lyrics and vocal are amazing. sometimes other writers capture Stevie's "moment" as well as she does, but a tad more concisely. that is SBS strong point in my opinion.

Not to repeat myself but now that it's actually happening (or starting to at least) I have to bring it up again - I know this sounds crazy and I'm super excited that Stevie is "back" but I keep having all these feelings that I don't want to share my Stevie with those non-chiffonheads lol. I know it sounds ridiculous and of course I want the album to be a chart-topping and critical success but part of me doesn't want to share her with those regular people. Of course I want her to have new fans but she's OUR Stevie and I don't like sharing. Does anyone understand what I mean or am I like totally on the other side of the mirror? You see, I've only been a hard-core fan since 2002 so I don't know what it's like for her to be popular and on the charts as a solo artist. It will just be so weird if people start saying to me, "Hey have you heard that new Stevie Nicks song?" or radio stations saying "Stevie Nicks is back with her new single...". It's like "yeah bitches, I know".

I know exactly how you feel. I've been a fan of My Chemical Romance since before their second album and nobody really knew who they were. They then released their second album and started to gain mass popularity and by the time their third album arrived, EVERYONE knew who they were. It pissed me off so much that I didn't even buy their third album until 2 years after it was released. There is something about just liking really good music and being able to revel in it, but then seeing some ding bat enjoying it too and knowing they don't even get the art behind the album and wondering if they really like the music or do they just like it because it is popular. Then it also makes you feel generic and like you have to explain that you like them because of their art and not because of the hype and it is just so aggravating. But I have learned not to lose all hope. Stevie has already had major success and even if she does manage to pull a Cher out of her ass and she drops a single that ignites the airwaves, all the nonchiffonhead posers will fade away before we know it!

Ooh wow, that was awesome. Her voice sounded so seductively sexy there, she still has it in her!
I've recently discovered how amazingly awesome The Highwayman is. After hating the song with a bit of a passion for a few years (once describing it as the only low point on an otherwise perfect album) I can't get enough of it now. Once it gets going... wow!

Why was this site dropped like a hot potato after TISL? It should be updated for In Your Dreams. Or atleast the nicks fix should be redesigned by whoever designed this.

Over the past few days, I've totally fallen in love... with When I See You Again
The lyrics are awful, and her vocal is terrible; but I think that's what's attracting me to her song. I think it's her worst vocal performance on record, and it says more than the lyrics could ever say. Here's a woman desperately trying to say something, anything, with a tool that no longer does what she wants it to, and that's why it's so powerful. This is Stevie at her very lowest, and it almost feels like I'm intruding on something private when listening to this song.:

So low that she couldn't come up with any lyrics except "Whatsa matta baby". ;)
I think it's just an o.k. song. It's not even the poor vocal that bother me, that never bothers me. Just not a huge fan of the song itself but you're correct in that it does represent a horrible time in her life. Good assessment too! I tend to think that more when I hear songs from Street Angel though because she was so lacking in her usual creativity and you can hear the life being sucked out of her. Hence I don't listen to a lot of SA.

I agree with a lot of this. I actually love the song and her performance because of what you described though. It is Stevie at possibly her most vulnerable - and it's painful and you can hear her pain. She makes it almost tangible. Lindsey's vocal on the end just finalizes it. So.sad.
The only other song I can think of off the top of my head that affects me in the same way is "Storms".

I just got finished watching disc 1 of Peter Bogdanovich's documentary on Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, "Running Down A Dream". WOW!
I love the behind the scenes footage of the recording process of "Stop Draggin'..." and how high pitched her vocals were. More so than what actually made the record. Plus I love the scene where Tom says...
"Stevie said I wanna be a Heartbreaker...and I said there are no girls in the Heartbreakers." and she just wasn't getting it.

Random Stevie thought: I wonder what Stevie thinks of Annie Lennox, and wonder what she'd think of Lindsey Buckingham producing a solo album for Annie! Now that Dave has produced Stevie, would it be fitting, or irony, or sweet revenge for Lindsey to team up with Annie? I think LB&AL might be interesting in the studio together! If they start today, they can release a 'Buckingham Lennox' single on May 2 to co-incide with 'In Your Dreams'- Ooh, the drama for the next Fleetwood Mac album would be all set!
I really do think, believing the advance word, that Dave Stewart may be the best producer SN has worked with in decades. Hurry up, May! Or, release it early, come on- all this foreplay has been such a tease, already. Get it out in March, what the ef's the difference? :)
Sell it next to the t-shirts at the concerts with Rod.
All this buildup... somebody's going to b*tchslap someone before May!

My understanding was that they used to be bffls.
My hunch is that they're not all that close any more. Reasons for that could be (in no particular order):
The whole SC joining / not-joining FM debacle
The way that female friendships change when one of you has kids (I can vouch for that one!)
Their different public positions on Iraq
But maybe simplest of all is SN's tendency to call everyone her best friend for about ten minutes. As she says herself, she has a teenage personality.

My random Stevie thought - or more of an experience I guess - While driving home yesterday afternoon, I was listening to JackFM. The promo came on stating "...and now for more music on JackFM" or something like that. I recognized that another song was about to come on. While the promo was playing, I thought to myself, "Stevie...Edge Of 17". The promo ended, and I'll give you one guess as to what song came on! It was freaky...and it was like I willed it to happen! Have any of you ever had a similar experience?

When did Stevie stop using the Sennheiser microphone? I only just noticed a few days ago that she doesn't use one anymore, and she didn't on The Dance. I'm not a big fan of Stevie Live from after the RAL tour until The Dance (with a few exceptions) so I haven't seen many performances from those 9 years or so, so I have no idea when she stopped using that particular mic.

Yesterday, I talked to someone who said they went to a rehearsal, invited by her friend Lynn and that it was perfect and smooth. It looked polished enough to be the real thing, all that was missing were the costumes. She claimed that Stevie sang "all" of her songs, but only being a casual fan, I'm sure she meant that Stevie just sang a few hit songs that she recognized. She said that Stevie sang her new song too, but when I questioned her as to whether she meant Secret Love, she didn't know for sure.

I've been bed-ridden today so I've been watching a bunch of movies. I rewatched all of the Crystal Visions videos w/ commentary .... Stevie is seriously hilarios. Most of the time I don't think it's intentional - it's just her inflection in her voice when she says stuff that amuses me, I think haha.
Also rewatched Destiny Rules. Couldn't get over how great Stevie sounded when they played clips of her recording or just singing while Lindsey played.. she also looked REALLY good throughout the whole doc, in my opinion.

This poster and their friend are likely teenagers to whom a 30 year old looks "old".

I am starting to wonder if Stevie will ever do another solo album that has no song titles including the word "love".

-Unconditional Love
-Love Is Like A River
-Maybe Love Will Change Your Mind
Trouble in Shangri-la

^ It's like wishing for a song without an "ooh", "baby", "angel" or "dream".
It's annoying on paper, but you still sing the hell out of it when you hear it.

So is it like a known thing that Stevie was performing drunk during this Woodstock show? I'll admit she doesn't sound so great and is just a bit rambunctious but it's one of my favorite shows to watch ever of Stevie's. In fact, I'm slightly obsessed with it for some reason.
Also some trivia...when did Stevie start singing "I know what it sounds like when doves cry" at the end of Edge?

She never totally stopped drinking, she was just off the Klonopin and coke at that point I believe.

I will never, ever, ever understand why they dropped Running Through The Garden or Destiny Rules from their setlist on the Say You Will tour. If those guys kept plugging those two songs, they'd be seen as classics today, in my eyes. Stevie just sounds fantastic;

I just spent 3 days in Las Vegas on business, and didn't see ANY promo for Stevie's upcoming show next month. I drove by Caesar's Palace and Janet Jackson was on the big sign, and the huge video screen showed clips from upcoming acts like Ricky Martin and Kylie Minogue, but no Stevie!
I finally went inside Caesar's because I just had to see if there were any posters of her upcoming show.....and there was not a single one. There were posters for Kylie and Chelsea Handler, who both appear weeks AFTER Stevie, but no Stevie posters. Why wouldn't her record company or management make sure her upcoming show and NEW ALBUM are being promoted at a place where thousands of people walk around?

I would just like to say I am so overwhelmed with emotion right now I can barely breathe! What a magical time to be a Stevie Nicks fan and with all this excitement around us we should all take a moment and thank Stevie in our own way and express our gratitude for the simple fact that she's the happiest she's ever been AND she's still got it! Who would have guessed our beloved gypsy would be back with such a vengeance? THANK YOU STEVIE!
P.S. To all you critics who wrote her off, kiss this!! :p

Very well put and I feel exactly the same, as probably most of us do. A few times this week when reading reviews or watching the Secret Love video I just became completely and totally overwhelmed with love and gratitude for Stevie and this new music she is giving us. Honestly, I never thought it would happen and certaintly not happen on such a grand scale. It's not just the wonderful music but it's the change in Stevie herself that's so very exciting!!!!

What a lovely post! I agree 100% with it. It's incredible, once you stop to think about it, that the same girl who was writing and singing Long Distance Winner (first song that popped into my head from B/N) nearly 40 years ago () is STILL making incredible music to this day.

Completely agree with you all. I've been a fan since 2003, so I've never experienced the release of new material, so this is really just too much for me. Just wish it wasn't the last 2 weeks of the semester!!

I've been in the pub. But I just want to say that I agree. It is worth celebrating that Stevie is not just alive but THRIVING and - perhaps - maybe - ready to embrace new ways of working that will make her produce more new music in a shorter timeframe?? *needs a 'fingers crossed' emoticon*

BUMP!
So remember I was telling you guys I had the opportunity to record something in the studio and I chose Some Become Strangers because I love it and have the instrumental? Well I'm about to get my chance and I've totally lost all my nerve. I mean half the reason I was going to do it was so I could post it here for your entertainment but does anybody really care that much? Is there anything left to say?
No really though, should I do it? I really can't sing but it would be fun right?

I'm completely blown away about how well they delivered that song. And Lindsey's guitar playing was so good! I wonder what circumstances took place for them to decide to drop it from the set. Probably Stevie's choice! The frustrating thing is that it's one the best live songs they performed from the Say You Will album. It was hugely missed opportunity. They performed it, what, twice? It should have been a staple of their set. It should have been on the Live in Boston DVD/CD. Tragic!

I will probably get hit by a rolled up newspaper for saying this, but I'm just not nuts about Stevie's current house (the big white Southern style colonial we see in all these IYD photos & videos). It just seems too traditional, fussy, and blanched of personality & soul for Stevie. It's a gorgeous home, no doubt, but it's just not the type of place I'd envision Stevie living. I guess I just expect her to live in something more whimsical and less formal, if that makes any sense.

This brings back such wonderful memories, thanks for posting it! I was a junior in college when Say You Will came out, and I saw several live shows. I'll never forget exiting one concert, and there was a group of young guys about my age nearby, and one said:
"See? I TOLD YOU they really rocked live, didn't I?"
And one of his friends said:
"I can't believe they rocked so hard, though! I just didn't expect that!"
Hearing that really made me smile. :D People of my generation usually had a pretty low opinion of Fleetwood Mac: geezer soft rockers. But seeing them live on the Say You Will tour would definitely have changed anyone's opinions. They were AWESOME that tour.

Well that comes completely out of left field, but it's an inspired choice. I can see her rendering it in a different, more sparse way, sort of like she did with Love Is. It will never happen until goats fly, and only in our dreams.

I haven't read the entire thread, so I'm not sure what I'm interrupting!
I had a dream a couple years back that Sheryl, Stevie and I went shopping. Afterwords, we sat and admired what we bought and talked like old friends. I felt like the outsider, but they were very gracious. It wasn't like we were friends, it was like I won a contest to shop with them for a day. haha... Random Stevie thought. It was one of those dreams that was very real.

I'm surprised we both agree on that! I'm not nuts about the song being on Say You Will at all. It just always seemed to me like the one puzzle piece that didn't fit. I think it was a song Stevie really should have left in the vault, or at most, recorded solo. But it really was great live.
