Me too! I work at a ****in Albertsons! I'd die on the spot.
I think it's a treat that Stevie has been showing her actual journal in some filmed footage and interviews. It seems like quite a large size. I wonder where she purchases them from. They look like the kind an office supply store or stationery store would carry. A couple other questions came to mind, like 1) did she find the larger size easier on the eyes, 2) is it always around the house or somewhere visible to anyone !?! I found it interesting how she said the larger size helps in not losing it. Does she lug it around everywhere, or is it just for writing in before bed?
I used to write all the time, but now I feel anxiety to return to it in fear of it being found and read. Even online writing never feels completely private to me.
What do you think? I guess it's her business to be prolific and record, whether in words or song, so that's her mindset and she doesn't stress about it.
Ok, sorry to ramble my random Stevie thoughts!

No I meant the wallpaper. Meaning that she could come out with wallpaper with her drawings, poetry, whatever and we'd all buy it.

Every time I buy a black ink cartridge the lyric "black ink darkness" plays in my mind. Then it is changed to "all around black ink cartridge" which is funny to me.

So to make a long story short I'm on this beautiful little island in the middle of The Bahamas and I can't stop thinking about the song Maker of Birds since Mike I read that poll a few hours ago Mike posted. Well I've had an epiphany of sorts (pls ignore spelling as there is no check on this comp). As most of you probably know in the many interviews Stevie has been doing to promote IYD she's mentioned on several occasions that this was unlike any other album-making experience because she actually had a wonderful, joyful experience doing it and hanging out with everyone at her house having fabulous dinners every night as opposed to sitting alone at her piano drinking wine/brandy and feeling sorry for herself. I'm sure that she recoginizes as we all do that some of her best work was done in this state but that she has evolved and she's not in that heartbroken/tragic place emotionally that she once was and I think that's great. That's how we should all be as we age, especially by 63. I think it's a part of life and the natural flow of maturity.
Finally, my point - I'm still in that dark, brooding place she was when she was my age (WH era) and I think that is part of my dissapointment with IYD - that element is missing.
It's funny, when we all first posted our initial thoughts on IYD I was one of the few to not fall in love with it immediately and one person who shall remain nameless pointed out that Stevie has changed, and perhaps I have not changed and that I need to and for some reason that comment has stuck out in my head. I don't know if the response was to me directly or just to everyone in general and possibly I took it the wrong way but maybe he/she is right and I can't stop stewing over it. Stevie has changed and I need to change, if not for myself, for the world. O.k. enough weeping willow stories (I'm esp. emo today). I hope my ramble wasn't totally pointless although as I re-read this post it seems so. On that note I'm going to lay by the ocean and listen to Beauty and the Beast, HAEWAFY, and Love Is, just kidding!
P.S. I do have a whole new appreciation for IYD after hearing the songs live!!

@sapphire.....I totally understand what you mean. I didn't hold it against u at all when u said you weren't in love with the cd. And now, it all makes sense y.
One of the many reasons y I fell in love with this amazing woman is becuase at the time I was going thru heartache and I felt her words...totally related! I'm not in that place anymore. I've changed for the better and now I feel her joy. I do often place myself back into that space, listen to her, and cry. It's cleansing to me to do so.
Anyhoo luv, no worries! Listen away......you're loved!

I think you might be on to something. Stevie has grown. She has changed. I'm sure she'd say for the better. I find lots of wisdom and enlightenment in IYD and hopefully you can too. I'm closer to her age but I'm not a woman. I still relate to some of her feelings, where she's coming from. Maybe with age comes insight? I bet Stevie would be happy to know you can take from it what you need at this time in your life and change for the better sooner than she did. She always says she tells her stories about herself to teach a lesson, so other young girls/women who admire her won't have to suffer through what she did before she got her act together. Being emotionally tragic and heartbroken all the time might work for art. It's no way to live an amazing and wonderful life.

Kinda OT, but not really.......I hate the new Mary J Blidge. When she got high, was going thru it w/ her ex and had other issues, I think her music was better. I don't hear any pain in her voice anymore. I haven't bought anything since she's in a better place. Do u think that's wrong of me?

Aww and thank you for saying that, you just made my day! Welcome to the Ledge by the way. You wouldn't happen to be the guy at the Wiltern show that was going to ask Stevie to marry him on camera and I butted in to give you my ring (since you forgot that part) and said that I was going to marry her (not you) if only gay marriage was legal in Cali? Just seems to kind of go with "Mr. Stevie".
And yes, back to tragic Stevie and changing, believe it or not I think I have learned some lessons about life through her music and have indeed changed as I am able to see things she's gone through from my perspective of course and truly believe her poetry and stories are kind of the soundtrack to my life thus far. And yes, that is one of the reasons Stevie writes. So we can each have our own stories to relate to her songs even though she's writing them from her own perspective. Ultimately that's what she wants.

Oh girl, that is sooo o.k. with me. I'm still singing "Real Love" if that tells you anything on my perception of the "new" Mary lol.

:wavey:
I thought Stephen King put it so well when he said that 'Art is a support system for life, not the other way round.'
And I also wonder if there's a paradox or double-bind in the fact that Stevie had so much fun making IYD, and it's this: because it was happy time, it reinforces her mantra that it's sensible to not have a life-partner because her work is so fulfilling - and yet, surely there are but a handful of years in which that can possibly remain true? And what then? What if (God forbid) something happened to Mick or Lindsey? What if Dave falls off the face of the earth?
Going into her mid-60s, and on the back of changing her mind about co-writing - and maybe even the Internet - I'd love to see Stevie changing her mind about whether she has to be single, and giving the next guy who comes along a chance! Even if he's young, even if he's poor, even if he - gasp - doesn't look like a f**king troll!
I know I'm a sap, but I just hate to think of her being lonely in her old age.

He was a trip! We met in line and I told him I was already her husband and that he was too young for her. I remembered he was wearing that T-shirt "Mr. Stevie Nicks." I grabbed onto the handle MrStevie since it wasn't already taken. I am her husband anyway, so. :] No, really I was there with my fiance so it would have been a little hard for me to propose to Stevie. Besides, I think she might already be taken. ;)

Random Stevie thoughts:
Sometimes if I see or hear a particularly emotional performance from Stevie (shich is pretty much every song she's ever sung;)) I have the urge to give her a big hug and tell her everything's going to be ok:nod:.
Also, when I see interviews of Stevie when she was younger and now too I can't help but think that she would make an awesome big sister!! She just seems to be able to empathize with people very well and her sense of humor whether intentional or not is killer:lol:!!

you know i have often thought the same thing but more like an aunt than a big sister because although she is technically old enough to be my mother, (she was 17 when i was born) i dont think of her as a mother figure, more like my auntie:nod: and how i wish i had been lucky enough to be her niece *sighs*

So Stevie has been popping up in my dreams (no pun intended) a lot over the last few weeks but last night was different...
Myself, Danni, and Dave Stewart were all at a private, very intimate Stevie show in a dimly lit bar. So small she could look into your eyes...well at the end of the show Dave came up to me, flirted, and asked me if he could borrow $2,000 right then and there. I told him I don't carry that kind of cash and immediately ran to Danni to tell her he was a scam artist.
Now for the serious part - after the show Stevie was sitting in a seat in what appeared to be an old theatre like The Wiltern. When I got my chance to finally talk to her she immediately grabbed me and hugged me and would not let go for nearly 2 whole minutes. While she was holding me I was talking to her softly in her ear saying something to the effect of her giving me hope to someday be happy after going through so much pain and her response was, "What makes you think I'm so happy?", insinuating that she's not.
Now with that being said, I totally think Stevie is happier than she's ever been but maybe she was trying to teach me some kind of lesson like you never really know what's going on in people's heads or behind closed doors and plus, it's all objective anyway. And one person's definition of happy could be a far cry from another's.
I could continue to analyze myself and what I think this means for me personally but I don't want to. Peace.

Lindsay, I had a Stevie dream right after you called me and told me about this! Somehow, I became compadres with Dave so he told me to come help him organize a set for a new Stevie video... it was up in the Hollywood hills outside a big Spanish looking house. I was helping him for a few days and then Stevie came. She loved me.
For some reason, I had to create a huge platform thing for the set of the music video and I made it out of bread, but the set had to be yellow so I painted it with mustard?
My subconscious is so weird.

Honestly, no. I still feel the same - it's a fabulous album technically and production-wise and Stevie sounds phenomenal but I am just not head-over-heals in love with any of the songs and don't want to listen to any of them over and over again . It's o.k. though, it's not like there aren't enough older ones I'm in love with and I'm still happy we have new material and that it's bringing so many people so much joy. Thanks for asking :).

I noticed in the first two seasons of 'Who's The Boss' that Samantha had a few different Stevie pictures on her wall. One was of the 'Rock A Little' album cover. I wonder if Alyssa was into her at the time of 'RAL'? She even mentioned her in the second season 1985/86. Just a Stevie thought! ;)

So I have a Dreams live question:
I love when the song is ending and Stevie adds the ahhh haaa ahhhaaa's at the end as the music fades. Hopefully you all know what I'm talking about. Does anyone know when she started doing this and was there a period she went through when she was always doing that? What is the history of it. I don't believe she's done it recently. Anyway I know I have it on some of my live copies of Dreams but don't want to go through every one now so if someone has a version where she sings the aah aah aahs at the end please post. Thanks.

We have a lot of country music stuff hanging around my work which is the genre that about 99% of our clients are. But as I walked into my office today, I realized I'm the only one who not only looks like I don't work in country music but that Stevie/Mac are my only clients.
And I'm perfectly OK with that. =)

Please don't hurt me, but I don't think Stevie sounded all that great until about half way through her performance with Javier on The Voice. (I just watched it, yes I am slow) but I got really teary eyed & started crying when she was escorted off stage and the lines "I'm getting older too" were still ringing in my mind. And did you see how she glowed at Javier... she is such a sweet, gentle person. UGH, you guys.... :sorry:

I agree, Stevie was shaky in the beginning, but quickly recovered. I also recall she sounded overly nasally. But as soon as the chorus hit....She began using her more subtle, whispery tone & I had goosebumps till the end of the song.

It must be because Stevie is on a mini vacation. She said in an interview after The Voice, that she was going to the beach (read: Hawaii). Unfortunately it's looking like no new promotion for IYD till the tour begins in August. I suspect this is why the Legde has simmered down.
The new album came out... I LOVE it!! (cannot express enough praise of it) But something feels anti-climatic, and I'm feeling the same disconnect.

I know the answer is yes but isn't it weird to think that other artists have as tight-nit of a community as Chiffonheads like us do? I mean do they? What are their forums like? Do they meet-up at concerts? Who do you think does? I know Prince's fans are hard-core and Tom Petty too. Little monsters? It's just weird to imagine ever being like this with another artist besides Stevie. I do think Stevie has a particular "cult" following and that we are especially special :D.

Hanson fans definitely have this type of thing.
I think most artists do, really. But each little group of fans is really unique in how they go about things.

So I posted this thought in another thread, but I thought I'd expand and post here.
I would love for Stevie to do a tour in which she performed in small, intimate venues only. Theaters like the Wiltern. It's truly the perfect setting for an artist like her, a performer who likes to make her audience feel like they're "in her living room".
SapphireSister said an acoustic set with Waddy. Now I adore Waddy so I think that sounds almost perfect, but maybe not a whole set. For a while now I've wanted her to do a broken down, acoustic version of Stand Back. I'm just so over the '80s synthesizer sound. I would love to hear this song sung differently, especially with the way she can sing now. She's evolved Rhiannon and Gold Dust Woman, why not Stand Back?
Anyway, that was random. Just thought I'd share.

I once was often to the forum of an actress, it was a little like here. But we werent that many.
There were threads about anything like here as well and we had fun.
The actress knew about this forum and one day and kind of joined us.
It was totally cool that we get to talk to her but it got a little messed because besides the nice talkings and such , a competetion started about who is her darling and nearly everyone wanted her for him or herself.
So i didnt work that way too long. Still a great forum thoug and the actress stopped talking regular to everyone but makes bigger posts every once in a while, because she couldnt keep up with every fan seperate. What is really understandable.

Stevie would probably never do that, because i bet she doesnt want to have the feeling that some of her fans would feel prefered or missed out, or something of that nature.
The actress didnt expect it to be so many people replying to her that much, i bet it was pretty stressful for her ,... and..

I heard the author Audrey Niffeneggar explain that while she used to sit in on book club discussions of her work, she found that her presence changed and stymied the course of conversation, so that's why she stopped doing that.

So I'm new here at the Ledge, but also only been a fan of Stevie's work for about 5years now. I have never found an answer to this question, but is there an extended studio version of Sisters of the Moon? Where they used all of Stevie's lyrics much like the Mirage Tour? That version was so epic....the song itself is epic! I hope the experts of Stevieland could help me out! Thanks!! :D

I had my first-ever Stevie dream last night!!!
She was the pre-match entertainment at some sort of sports event. There was hardly anyone in the stadium and she came on from the players' tunnel and just started doing that dance people did in the 60s, where they hold their nose and wiggle their hips like they're going underwater? That was it.

I don't know where it came from but I was walking to work today and all of the sudden I said to myself, "mistress of my fate!" so of course I automatically thought of The Dealer and that this was some sort of sign that I need to know what this song is about and that there's something significant about it for me. I've never felt this way before about The Dealer, it never stood out to me although I know it's a fan favorite. I tried analyzing the lyrics and now I'm even more confused. I know it's some metaphor for a card shark or such but what the heck is this song about? Can any of you share your insights and opinions please!!

Now she wasn't a Stevie fan and she had just picked up the lyrics from me playing Stevie all the time, so I spent that day playing her my entire back catalogue of Stevie and she is now on her way to becoming a fully fleged Stevie fan :') :blob1::blob1:

That's talent! I was blown away the other day when listening to Lindsey's Law and Order album. Satisfied Mind started playing and my Mum was in the bathroom next door singing along. Turns out she's loved the song for years but couldn't remember who performed it or anything. I'm slowly but surely turning her into a Lindsey fan, which is made easier because I dragged her to the Unleashed show in Manchester in 2009 and her favourite parts were the Lindsey solos. Love it. She very rarely shows musical taste, haha.

I bought the Christine etsy coasters and I arranged them very lovingly in their bowl (which was actually a copy of Christine's LP shaped into a saucer) and set them on the wetbar. When I actually had company and someone had the audacity to grab a couple of coasters for their drinks I was slightly alarmed. I guess I should let people know that they are just there "for decorative display only."

So I had a really, really intense Stevie dream last night. Must have had something to do with the Emmy's. There seems to be a recurring theme with these lately as they all end somewhat the same. Here it goes:
There is a private, invite only event for a new dress that Stevie designed. Shockingly it is a little summer halter dress (one dress only) that comes in 4 bright colors (orange, hot pink, lime-green, and sky blue). The event is outdoor on a wide, grassy knoll with bleachers set up for journalists/publicists/fashion people who were invited. Somehow some way I sneak my way in and I see Stevie sitting completely alone in one of those high director's chairs wearing a black chiffon dress, shocking lol. I go up to her and we have this really deep conversation and she tells me we are going to be great friends and we connect on a level that one just can't describe. She compliments me, says she can relate to everything I'm saying and that we share something special. Then I have her sign some something just like at Amoeba and say "make sure you spell my name right, Lindsay with an a not an e like you're used to (this is exactly what Karen said to her at the real signing). It was such an amazing feeling! You know when she looks you in the eyes and you feel as though you are the only person in her world? I wish I could remember what we talked about but I only remember the feelings associated with it. That undeniable human connection and I felt so damn special!
Anyway everyone waits in line in rows of those bar things like at airport security and then we all sit in the bleachers and listen to Stevie talk about the new dress. When it's over everybody just kind of leaves but I go over and say to Stevie, "Don't you want my number? You said we were going to keep in touch and that you loved me and we were going to be besties" at which point she laughed and said "You didn't think I was serious did you? I say that to all my fans. You're not special honey, I was totally lying" or something to that effect.
Needless to say, I was devastated. :distress:

Your not crazy at all! It very well could sound similar because "That's Alright" was written in the early 1970s for BN. "Take It Easy" came out in 1972 and Stevie always said that her and Lindsey used to listen to the Eagles when they moved to L.A. Good ear !!

As much as I love Silver Springs, the band (and Stevie) really haven't done it justice since the Dance tour. On the Unleashed tour here in Nashville, she didn't hit any of the high notes (which we know she can easily hit), and she didn't make the ending memorable at all. In fact, during the "follow you down/never get away" part, she and Lindsey didn't even look at each other. I found myself wishing I actually had left the arena early. Apparently, according to other Stevie fans I correspond with in different cities, Silver Springs was lackluster in other venues as well. You might have done yourself a favor.
I saw FM 3 times during the Unleashed tour and thought the two times that they did SS, that it was fabulous. I thought in Philly it was Stevie's best vocal of the night. I also think that the SYW tour in Boston was very awesome. Loved the tempo kicked up ever so slightly. :)
That song casts a spell on me...I can listen to it 10 times in a row and never get tired of it.

Over the past few days, I've totally fallen in love... with When I See You Again
The lyrics are awful, and her vocal is terrible; but I think that's what's attracting me to her song. I think it's her worst vocal performance on record, and it says more than the lyrics could ever say. Here's a woman desperately trying to say something, anything, with a tool that no longer does what she wants it to, and that's why it's so powerful. This is Stevie at her very lowest, and it almost feels like I'm intruding on something private when listening to this song.:
Luv this song...luv the lyrics, luv the baby voice...it's helped me thru some lonely nights...

Hi...bored and found this...maybe one of you guys remember...and think "oh, that's why"
Someone here...about a year ago started a discussion with the title...What's Up With Stevie's creepy hands?"
Im not starting a fight...please, I spent the day in Costco with my mom...2 hours of, "c'mon Jimmy...try the ravioli..." you know, my mom a war baby growing up poor...that part never leaves you...free food! And you sample their new ravioli after waiting in line for 10 minutes surrounded by non English speaking people with screaming babies on a papoose hanging from their parents back. In a tiny thimble sized paper cup you get a 1/30th of the crap...like the size of a corn kernel.
You know her people scout...
Do you think she wears those bejeweled carpal tunnel syndrome arthritis half glove cover ups all the time?
That's sad.

I've always wondered if Stevie has ever been to Disneyland, and if she had what she thought of it.
I loved Disneyland ever since I was a kid, and I've noticed over the years that as far as people's feelings go about Disneyland, they usually fall into one of these 3 catagories:
1. They love it (they "get" the Disney magic)
2. They hate it (too crowded/expensive, think it's stupid)
3. They could take it or leave it (they don't "get" the magic)
I wonder which catagory Stevie would be in.

My gut would say number one, but it mostly depends on her attachment to Disney in general....
She does love having the fairy princess role..... And she likes cartoons.

I just woke up from the weirdest but coolest dream ever. Stevie was my English teacher and we were doing a film review of her biopic, in which she played herself, no Lohan here. I make my own skin and fragrance stuff because I am allergic to everything. There is a small hole in the wall earth crunchy store where I buy most of the organic ingreients for the skin stuff. Right now they carry my face mist which is minty and moisturizing and a face cream with rapeseed oil and tea tree.
So, I wonder what would happen if Stevie tried them for 3 days.
And I wonder what she would think of my own cologne. Girls and guys both like it...its appeal has them saying, dude...what is that name...its awesome. Think lemon meets musk meets patchouli meets pine...too many to list and its a secret.
I wonder if she liked it so much that she would put me in her bed like she did with Micks vest...anyone remember her saying how good he smells? I saw him about a year ago at the airport...patchouli! I really smelled him before seeing him from yards away!

Wth? I immediately thought of Stevie's interviews with him, and how great they are. I'm hoping he gets hired by another L.A. radio station.

Just heard Sara on the radio in the store. My friend Sara is having a really tough week so I think that was for her.
I think Imperial Hotel is actually a very sad song but the music is so happy and energetic the meaning of the song gets lost in it. I think it's about the choices we make and that being at the top can be a very lonely place.

I completely agree- the first verse just kills me every time, and the chorus is really sad too.

Did you know the actual title of this song is A BIT OF GOLD AND BRAID? (The capital letters are just to highlite the title, not to yell at anyone)

One of Stevie's former schools, Arcadia High School was on lockdown today for several hours. If Stevie saw it on the news with the police running around on campus, she probably thought...if you mess with my people, I'm gonna get..... hahahaaa..

So I was having dinner at Cheeseburger in Paradise tonight, and they played Secret Love! Not sure how that song was deemed tropical enough for a Jimmy Buffett theme restaurant, but I was pretty excited. You go, Stevie.

Isn't it weird how whenever you sing a song that Stevie has changed slightly, either in the lyrical sense or just a alternate live version, you automatically switch to singing whatever is different in that version?

The year Stevie released StandBack , Rolling Stone asked other singers what their favorite songs of the year were...Phil Collins said Stand Back...just a few months later he released Take Me Home...if you listen to the way he singis that chorus its obvious he lifted it from Stand Back....just a thought!

Wow. Wow. Wow. Normally I LOATHE remixes of Rhiannon, as no one has ever, ever, ever got it right, and they just make a complete and utter mess of it. However, I found this today and it's just blew me away completely:

I agree. Are you familiar with who did it? They really respected the integrity of the song; the embellishments are done with taste. They gave it club/dance quality to it, but it's not brash or typically disco-like.

Okay, so a bunch of really great stuff happened today!
1: I got appointed editor of the yearbook committee (shallow, I know)
2: My art final piece got finished.
3: my art tutor and I, who is a Stevie fan also, decided to turn the Red Riding hood sculpture into a short film with Moonlight as the backing track.
AND
4: My mum bought me a crescent moon necklace
Loving life.

I have no idea where my mum found it, I just came home and she just gave me it, I was stunned! It's adorable, it's silver, very thin with little circles on it that have flowers inside them, it's like a Stevie/Hippy moon.

I just finished watching the full video for 'The One That Got Away' and as I was watching it I just completely understood what Stevie says when she says it reminds her of the last fight with Lindsey.
That video is just so emotive, it breaks my heart. The director really outdid themselves and the song is lovely as well, I think I may be slightly converted to Katy Perry.

How does Stevie not fall on her ass after twirling?!
I always wondered about that, especially on those platforms....
Then I got a copy of the Live in Boston show and noticed that on Stand Back, she sets it up with Carlos at the start and uses him as her focal point.. He also lets her know when to stop and go back to the microphone....
There are several little tricks she uses on stage.. But then I think sometimes I would just prefer leaving them as Stevie Magic.......
Great thread BTW

Yep! She 'spots' like a dancer does when they turn. I don't think it's necessarily a trick really.... if you've ever taken dance, that's one of the first things they teach you, so you don't get dizzy and it really becomes second nature.
And Stevie's harmony is SO HIGH on the album version of I'm So Afraid!

Some of the live versions have more prominent Stevie vocals. It seems like on some tours she sang on it and some she didn't. The version from The Very Best of, which is a live version from '97 is a version where you can hear her.
Here's a live version of Why from Trod Nossel '75 with some beautiful Stevie backing vocals: http://www.mediafire.com/?dfd33ffgff6ktci

I've been hesitant about posting this but here it goes:
The woman is a witch, I'm convinced. I'm not trying to start rumors or re-hash something that has been re-hashed way too many times but 2 weeks ago I heard from a very reliable/non-biased source that she currently practices wicca. This is not to say she casts spells on people and rides through the night on a broomstick but she does adhere to some of the ancient practices and to be honest I don't see what the big deal is. Is it really that difficult to accept? So many people today consider themselves "spiritual" so to me this just happens to be one of Stevie's many froms of spirituality. Although I don't know to what extent she actually practices I really have no problem with it. I also don't know enough about it to judge but it seems to me wicca in general has such a negative connotation when in reality people don't even know enough about it to judge. So I say to Stevie, "Don't deny it girlfriend, embrace it and educate people. Be a witch and be proud!".
Its because they believe she chants demonic spirits into her music that posess you when you listen. I know it sounds crazy but that's the theory with those accused of witchcraft. And some singers do indeed do that.

I haven't posted around here in a verrry long time. I check here for news once in awhile. Had an intense dream last night that was Stevie-influenced (OSOTM influenced, actually, since that's what I was listening to late last night) and had to come and see what's up.
My favorite Stevie song is still Battle Of The Dragon, and I still believe it's about losing Robin to cancer and learning to live without her.
Yay for old threads seeing new action.

Well, there was that one time when she said that people were talking about her red shawl online.
I don't think she wondered why people wondered. I think she thought they should wonder about her shawls. That's why she puts care into choosing them.
