**Last edit: 03.07.11

I thought I'd start a thread that could be updated with the songs we've heard Stevie mention as being on the new album, IN YOUR DREAMS. It had previously been reported that there are 14 tracks on the album, but the Rolling Stone interview with Stevie and Rod Stewart posted 02.03.11 says there are 13, of which 7 were co-written with Dave Stewart. It was previously reported that Stevie wrote 5 of the tracks on her own, which totals 12. Perhaps the 13th song was cowritten with Mike Campbell. Or, perhaps one or more of Stevie's solo-written songs has been cut and there are two or more songs written with Campbell. Complicated math. ;)

Thus far, we have 12 specific song titles (the first 12 listed below). The only missing title is the exact one for the so-called New Orleans song.

1. Italian Summer (Nicks-Stewart)
2. Annabel Lee (Nicks-Stewart-Ballard)
3. The Ghosts Are Gone (Nicks-Campbell? or Nicks-Stewart)
4. Everybody Loves You (Nicks-Stewart)
5. The Soldier's Angel (Nicks)
6. For What It's Worth (Nicks-Campbell)
7. Cheaper Than Free (Nicks-Stewart)
8. In Your Dreams (Nicks-Stewart?)
9. Secret Love (Nicks) - First single
10. Moonlight - A Vampire's Dream (Nicks) - based on the "Lady from the Mountain" demo
11. Wide Sargasso Sea (Nicks-Stewart)
12. You May Be the One (Nicks-Stewart)
13. Title not yet known - New Orleans song (Nicks)

Remember that Stevie has been quoted as saying 9 songs were written with Dave, and 5 songs were hers. I'm not sure if the Mike Campbell songs are included in the 9 with Dave or in the 5 that Stevie wrote...but we know 3 songs that she wrote by herself
1.Twilight Song
2. New Orleans Song
3.Soldiers Angel

as well as a song from the vault circa 1976. Could the fifth song be one of Mike Campbell's or could it be Annabelle Lee (even if Dave wrote a minuet for it, she still might consider it to be solely hers since it's been around for awhile)?

Curiouser and curiouser...

:)

Does anyone else think she's going to bring out Cecelia, could be one of the vault songs?

Do we know for sure that the "New Orleans song" and the "Twilight" song are separate songs? Both make references to vampires...

5. Everybody Loves You (Nicks-Stewart)
6. The Soldier's Angel (Nicks)
7. New Orleans song (Nicks)
8. "Twilight song"
9. Mike Campbell Song #1
10. Mike Campbell Song #2 or unspecified Stewart collaboration
11. 1976 song (vault)
12. 1976 song (vault)
13. unspecified era vault song and/or Stewart collaboration
14 .unspecified era vault song and/or Stewart collaboration

If Annabel Lee doesn't deviate from Stevie's demo it really should be (lyrics Poe, music Stewart-Ballard. Additional lyrics Nicks).

Possible Mike Campbell song: "My Heart"

Well, since it was completely recorded, mixed and mastered and actually on (very rare) copies of the 16-track CD of Trouble in Shangri-la, "My Heart" is pretty much an unofficial official release. It's not like it's some old piano demo; it's already completed. Plus, it's also all over the Internet, YouTube, everywhere. However, I could be wrong, of course.

However, a Stevie version of "You Like Me" isn't in circulation. We've never heard her version. That would be a nice surprise!

Wait a second. WAIT just a second. WHAT? There was a 16 track version of TISL?

Yes. When Stevie did the Arizona benefit in September 2000, at the party the 16 track CD of Trouble in Shangri-la was playing, including the songs "My Heart", "Thrown Down" and "Touched By An Angel", plus a completely different version of "Bombay Sapphires". Various people got official copies of that CD, and, of course, some of them made copies. And that's where "Thrown Down" and "My Heart" came from.

A few of the songs had slightly different mixes as well. Here is the track listing for the extended CD that several people got in 2000:

01. Trouble in Shangri-La
02. Candlebright
03. That Made Me Stronger
04. Sorcerer
05. Planets of the Universe
06. It's Only Love
07. Everyday (missing a few overdubs)
08. Bombay Sapphires (alternate version)
09. Love Changes
10. Too Far From Texas
11. I Miss You (different mix)
12. Fall From Grace
13. Thrown Down
14. My Heart
15. Touched By An Angel
16. Love Is

Which makes me think it's quite possible we won't get all 14 songs. I'm pretty sure some will be cut.

Well, the official Trouble in Shangri-la is thirteen tracks, as was Street Angel. Thirteen or fourteen sound about right for a Stevie album.

Plus, for Crystal Visions and The Soundstage Sessions (and even Live In Boston 2003), different bonus tracks were available from WB/Reprise, iTunes and Amazon. So, it's very possible for this new album that we will get all of Stevie's new recordings! :)

I sure hope the old Campbell track Stevie recently recorded is not "My Heart" for all the reasons mike b. discusses, plus I would prefer a brand new track we've never heard before. However I've always been fond of "You Like Me", but I somehow think it would have been more potent if Stevie recorded and released when it was written right around the RAL era.

I was thinking the same thing, and agree we will probably have the option to buy extra bonus tracks through iTunes, Amazon & WB! The only downside for some is having to buy multiple copies of Stevie's new album, which I don't mind....It has been so long, and the bonus songs will be worth every $ in my opinion. :D

14 .unspecified era vault song and/or Stewart collaboration

Dave or Mike said that Stevie pulled out an old Campbell track that she wanted to record, they brought in Mike and made it even better. So I believe that makes the Campbell/Stevie song fall under the category of unspecified era vault song. The other Campbell song they recorded was a newly composed track that Mike gave to Stevie, which he said she wrote a great song to that he was very proud of.

With the exception of TOSOTM, Stevie has always named her albums after a song title. Of the "official" titles that she has leaked thus far, I'm praying that NONE of them (while pretty titles for songs) are NOT the actual title of the record.

Italian Summer or Everybody Loves You just do not have the "Stevie feel" like Bella Donna, Wild Heart or TISL. Then again, neither did Street Angel.

Its nice to know possibly some of the song titles but wow....its like we almost know everything....though I guess its no different than back in the old fanzine days (for those of us that recall 'those' days) me included.....we all used to speculate as to what songs from the vault that would show up on the new record. Its fun to know but than yet sometimes I wish I didn't know.....it almost takes the 'fun' out of getting the new cd/LP and reading through it etc......it kinda makes me sad that 'those' I guess simipler days are gone........anyway, its just some thoughts.....and I just wondered if anyone else has felt this way??? If not its all good either way.........I won't stop reading the track listing thats for sure but I go hope for some unknown surprises too......Come on Stevie give us alot of songs on this new cd/(yeah and put out another ltd edition LP too like you did with CV)......have AT least 14-15 songs on the cd or heck add some extras like you did with SA (the Japan version had 16 songs on it--which I like many others here have)....that was 16!! which was way cool......have a beautiful LP/CD cover.....time will tell......make the most of it......:D:shrug:

Starshine, I completely understand what you're saying. When it comes to new albums from Stevie and the Mac, I think everyone has a different threshold for how much they want to know and how much they want to be surprised. For me, finding out song titles is fun and gives me a little taste of what's coming, but the songs themselves remain mostly a mystery. I think that's a nice balance. Also, Stevie herself has chosen to reveal these song titles by talking about them to reporters, so as careful as she's being about preserving the surprise this time, she apparently doesn't think that naming songs is doing much harm.

This time around, if the songs themselves leak, I'm going to do my best not to listen to them. I *did* listen to stuff leaked from TISL and SYW, and I found it took away from the excitement of getting the actual album a bit. It's just soooooooooooo hard to resist. But I'm going to try, and maybe Stevie will make it easier for me by keeping stuff under tighter wraps this time as she promises to do!

All that said, I'm happy to edit this post title to say "SPOILERS" if folks want.

Well, I would take threads like this with a grain of salt. As we all know, some fans can get a little wild with their imagination, to point where they start to believe their speculation is the truth. So there still will be an element of surprise when the album actually comes out - and that surprise will be how inaccurate and unreliable some of this early information turned out to be.

People keep mentioning songs called Cecilia and Lady from the Mountain. I found these on youtube. I have to say to say if Nicks puts these songs on her new album, the album will have a Tusk feel. Both songs are extreme mood pieces. The earliest Demo for Lady is a true gem, but the redone version not so much. Cecilia has a spanish and italian flare to it. It's extremely tusk and I think it would go nicely with her other Italian songs.

If she really using these songs, I'm going to get really excited, because these songs are PURE atmosphere and it shows she is going for a complete album instead of a bunch of singles.

Hi,

I'm just wondering if the song based on the film "Wide Sargosso Sea" has that very title? If you carefully read the interview where Stevie mentions it, she doesn't actually state the title of the song, only what inspired it. I could be wrong though.

Also, has the inclusion of the New Orleans Song actually been confirmed? I think David Wild's comments regarding vampires caused some people to think it must have been recorded but there's no evidence of this to date.

For the record, I have been thrilled with Dave's input as a co-songwriter and producer from the outset and I believe he will be sympathetic to Stevie's songs in every regard. However, I am concerned about the songs they have co-written being based on the "journal poems" and wonder how much thought has gone into ensuring these lyrics actually stand up in terms of quality? I've always admired Stevie's ability to "connect the dots" and merge bits and pieces of her poetry from here and there. Sometimes this makes for a rather cryptic lyric overall but I always prefer that to her more straightforward "stories". I am nervous about getting to hear "the whole story" as she puts it.

I sincerely hope Stevie has revised "The Solider's Angel" because the original poem it seems to be based on is wretched. She may as well be stating "I am a soldier's ipod programmer" or "I go down on soldiers and take their pain away". The cringe factor is unavoidable this time I'm afraid.

I truly think this album is going to hinge on whether Stevie can a) come up with great lyrics and b) if she can hit the spot vocally. She has all the support she needs in the shape of Dave but everything will ultimately rest on her shoulders.

I have been listening a lot to the "Trouble In Shangri-La" album lately and I am astounded at how great a lot of these songs are and how they have also really held up well almost ten years down the track. I think some of it is over-produced and certain songs could have benefited from more subtle arrangements ("That Made Me Stonger" comes to mind) whilst the rougher demo versions were in some cases superior ("Candlebright" and "Sorcerer"). However, it still is a strong set of songs and I think this is because she had a number of years to write and stockpile new songs. I just fear she may have rushed into things this time around but we'll just have to wait and see.

PS I like Shanks' production on the song "Trouble In Shangri-La" despite it's rather frenetic arrangement at times, but I would love to hear a stripped-back, perhaps even orchestral version that might closer resemble the demo version. I always thought the synth refrain in the chorus of the demo was so poignant and beautiful - it would be lovely to gently tease that out with piano and strings. Whatever the case, this remains a truly magnificent song.

You'd be surprised what she can do in the studio versus what she does on stage. She seems a bit more courageous (I guess since she can rerecord if she doesn't like it). The falsetto on "Sorcerer" for example, as well as "Call On Me For Magic"...and for Fleetwood Mac's SYW album, I think some of her best vocals ever were on "Running Through The Garden". And recently, her harmonies on "The One" with V. Carlton were stunning - and really the only good thing about the song.

She's got chutzpah in the studio. I'm not worried about this album at all. Especially since she, herself, is touting it as the best thing she's done since "Bella Donna".

Why would anyone on this website be surprised at what she can do? We've all heard the same things. I guess it's a matter of opinion. My opinion seems to differ quite a lot from yours about some those vocals you say were great, especially Call on Me for Magic and Running Through the Garden. Although, I think she really tried.

It has nothing to do with chutzpah in the studio. Recording songs takes a long time because you go through several recordings of the same song. Many times, you spend hours recording just a few lines from the same song. Stevie probably needed several takes to get those falsettos in "Sorcerer" just right.

And it's not exclusive to Stevie. Think about the "reeeeeaaaach me" that Bono sings in "Beautiful Day." When you're in the studio, you have several takes to get it right. On stage, he doesn't try that falsetto, or at least didn't when I remember hearing him singing "Beautiful Day" live. On stage, if you try a note and you screw up, thousands of people hear it.

Of course it has to do with chutzpah. If you're feeling it, you're feeling it. If you're not, you're not. Stevie has been quoted many times saying she doesn't like to do more than 3 or 4 takes at one time in the studio. She said that anything afterward loses it's magic, so she'll have to stop and come back to it later. Yes we've seen master reels listing such-and-such song take #12 or #13 and so on...but I bet if take #14 made it on to the record, it was because she had come back to it after awhile, and was "feeling it".

And yes, Jondalar, everything I write on this forum is just my humble opinion. :)

Very true, I just finished the book, "Heart In The Studio" and as most people by now know while recording "These Dreams", Nancy had a cold but she recorded the vocal anyhow. A couple weeks later they back to finish up the track, she redid the lead vocal but the gravelness from her cold was gone. The producer really liked her original vocal better, in particular the line "every second of the night I live another life..." so he edited the two vocal takes together, keeping some bits from the original and some from the retake. The end result is a seamless blend of the two.

I'll be curious to see how many songs remain on the completed album. Early released reports listed "Violet & Blue" to be on "The Wild Heart", "Smile At You" to be on "Mirage", "What Has Rock & Roll Ever Done For You" to be on "Tango" and "Don't Treat Me Like A Stranger" to be on "The Other Side..." and there have been others. None of these ended up on the albums. So a lot can happen between now and what comes out.

@DaveStewart. Where's cheaper than free on the double gatefold?

DaveStewart
@senatorsteved warners wouldn't allow on the gatefold as it was 4 months earlier than Stevie CD and that song is on both our CD albums

senatorsteved
@DaveStewart sure would of been nice as a promo but it must be a great song. Looking forward.

DaveStewart
@senatorsteved I agree but when she heard my version she said she wanted it on her record too and she's on warners !

Hope this doesn't mean we are losing a song off her album to fit this one in!

If "Cheaper than Free" is on Stevie's album then there is a track lost, in a way, IMO. Doesn't she have better things to put on her first album in 10 years? Or is it payback for Dave? She seems to have a habit of getting totally overboard with musical friends and letting them dumb her music down, like with Sheryl C. on TISL.

Same here. I don't want to be a Debbie Downer, and to me Cheaper Than Free was good but not anything amazing. Granted we didn't hear all of it, so who knows. I just don't see how Stevie thinks it is "so great" she wants it on her album. It just doesn't make any sense to me to release the song on both albums. None at all. The only thing I can think that would make sense is that it is going to be on a "deluxe" version of her album. But I think it kinda screws Dave over. Having a duet on his album with Stevie gives chiffonheads somewhat of an incentive to buy his album, but now that it is going to be on her's too, there is much less of an incentive.

I would buy his album based on the music, not because he's producing Stevie's album (and I won't be buying it). If you look at it like that he's just using her for publicity! I mean I'm sure he genuinely wants to produce her album and is doing a fabulous job but he didn't have to do all the extra Twitter, shout-outs, and what not (although I do appreciate it). Hahaha, I am buying his album! And I don't think he is using her for publicity at all, but I do think from it would make sense to keep the song on his and only his album. Even tho he isn't using her simply for publicity, she has definitely helped increase interest in his album and I think including the song only on his album would be another perk of the album. Especially for those people who don't know his solo music or think it is too country. Of course you aren't going to buy his album simply because he is producing her album, but would you buy his album if it had a duet with Stevie on it that you couldn't get elsewhere? Or would you atleast buy that one song off of iTunes? That would go as a sale toward him, but now you will get it on Stevie's album, so there is no need for you to even waste your time with Dave Stewart! It works out good for us, but I think it is kinda shoddy for Dave. It'd be like Tom Petty putting Stop Draggin My Heart Around on "Hard Promises". I think it would have been somewhat wrong of him to tell Stevie that he liked it so much he was going to put it on his album thereby making Stevie conform to his label's demands and telling her when she can and cannot release songs on her solo album.

What if the album is country tinged, like Bella Donna is? Or, you know, people could be setting themselves up for big disappointment, getting their hopes up high and expecting Stevie to deliver an amazing album.. when it might not be.

Either way, I'm not too fussed what the tracks sound like, new Stevie music is new Stevie music. I'm sure there will be songs I love and songs I don't love. Either way, it's all cool. I think at this stage in the game, she should make the music she wants to, and she sounds pretty excited about the whole project, so, I'm quitely confident that it won't disappoint.

Excuse my ignorance: But what were the bonus tracks from the Soundstage Sessions and Live in Boston? Are they still available?

But Bella Donna and Wild Heart were only ten and RAL was 11 and TOSOTM was 12. So 13 or 14 does sound about right, but here is my biggest fear: all of those albums had numerous songs dropped from them! As you said, there was an early version of TISL with 16 tracks, but it was knocked down to 13. 25 songs were recorded for RAL, but we only got 11. Also, several songs were planned for Street Angel, such as If You Were My Love, She Calls You Missing, God's Garden, and Inspiration. I'm afraid that since Stevie was already talking about "14 songs" in August, that possibly they will drop some of those 14. And maybe they dropped 4 or 5 and then she asked to add Cheaper Than Free to be on the album to make it 10 or 11. But you do point out the potential for bonus tracks! Some of my favorite bands other than Stevie and FM are with Reprise, such as The Used, My Chemical Romance, Jack's Mannequin and Taking Back Sunday, and they have been very market savvy and released bonus tracks and b-sides on iTunes or with pre-orders and making CD/DVD packages with behind the scenes footage and documentaries which will work well with Dave's plans!

Keep in mind that when Bella Donna, Wild Heart and Rock A Little were released, Vinyl was still the main format in which an album was purchased, then cassettes. Vinyl can only hold about 25 minutes per side, making your average record about 50 minutes back then. Songs were dropped not because they weren't good, but because there was no room. That's why there were so few songs on those records.

I agree with whoever said Stevie & Warners screwed Dave over if it's true Stevie loved "Cheaper Than Free" so much that she had to have it on her album as well as Dave's. It better be a great track, cause from the 30 seconds I heard, I wasn't overly impressed, esp. with the simplistic lyrical sentiment...though it did cut off as it seemed to be building. I found "Everybody Loves You'" more interesting and that was just a demo snippet we heard.

Also I wouldn't mind Stevie's album being country tinged ala Bella Donna. Especially if by country-tinged it's really just stripped down. Stevie last tried to get down to basics and strip down her music when she did Street Angel, and while I do like parts of that record, overall SA didn't succeed artistically IMO for many reasons.

So my hunch is that I suspect Stevie's new album will be more diverse musically than Dave's Blackbird Diaries, though it may include a few songs in that vein, as well as bigger production songs as well. But my burning question is, why is her album not titled yet?? All the songs have been recorded, and it's in the final mixing phase. Where's the title Stevie? Has anyone asked Dave>via twitter?

I just "tweeted" him and asked if there's a title. We'll see if I get an answer. I also told him I was excited about his Belcourt gig and new record. I didn't want him to think I was only interested in what Stevie's doing.

About ten years ago, I rang up Walter Egan at Barnes & Noble, and just a few years ago, I helped Billy Burnette find a CD at Tower Records. The first thing that came out of my mouth both times was "WHAT WAS IT LIKE WORKING WITH STEVIE NICKS?!!!" instead of talking about their own music, or just leavining them alone. Didn't wanna make the same mistake with Dave.

smart move. I met Bruce Hornsby about 5 years ago and the first thing I asked him was about his work with Stevie on TOSOTM. We talked about Two Kinds of Love but he forgot the name of the other song he was involved in. I quickly reminded him that the title was Juliet. He seemed astounded I knew the name of it. I pressed him about her deal with Rupert...he said they seemed pretty "cozy" when the three of them had dinner. I never really asked anything about his own music which didn't sit very well. In order to "redeem" myself and pretend to take an interest, I asked Bruce if he still played the keyboards. Well, that the absolute wrong thing to ask the man who was already irritated about my lack of interest or knowledge in his music. He told me I didn't know the first thing about him or his music. He was visible angry. I wouldn't make that mistake again. It wasn't pretty.

Has anyone heard I Saved the World Today, by the Eurythimics. It's produced like the 60s The Look of Love. It's totally atmospheric, yet demure. I'm thinking he's the perfect producer for Stevie Nicks becuase she is known for atmosphere. There is also lots of real horns on that song. I wonder if he brought any of that in to Stevie's music.

Anyway, Stevie already said that Annabelle Lee sounded very English and she loved it. Cheaper than Free is definitely couontry, but I really like what I heard. The lyrics make sense and their vocals are terrific. (She ruined Too Far Texas with a throwaway vocal.) Ummm, Everybody Loves You is AC, but very introspective AC. What she is saying in the song is that she knows people feel sorry for her because they think she is all alone and has no real home or kids. The Mike Campbell songs are rockers. If Lady from the Mountain is on the album I'm sure its a moody atmospheric piece.

We are getting an albums where each song is it's own thing. There is going to be plenty of mood changes on this album and that is definitely a good thing. Sorta like Lindsey's Out of the Cradle.

Anyway, I don't know how people can criticize Dave's production without first listeining to it. He's always done a good job and guess what. HE TAKES STEVIE SERIOUSLY. He believes in her. And judging from the fliming and stuff, he's ready to help market this album because he believes in it. I honestly don't think she's had a devoted producer since the Wild Heart. Dave likes her strangness, and I'm sure we are going to get something we will all like.

No one has mentioned 'Love Is' showing up on the new album.....It was Stevie's closing song in all 5 performances of the Tour That Never Was. and at MGM she went on after it mentioning that it was truly the 'third and final great ballad' , how it was written in 1995 and appeared on TISL, but that she was not happy with that version, and had come back to it when putting together the new album, and how we ( at MGM) were one of only 5 audiences (so far) to hear it in its new version
..... she seemed very pleased with it and i predict it will be on the new album

I hope it's not on the new album, as much as I love that song, I really love the TISL version. there would be less room for other new songs if she put it on her new record :( In my opinion she should have a deluxe version of her album and maybe add her new version of 'Love Is' to that, as well as put 'Cheaper Than Free' with Dave on there. And judging from the fliming and stuff, he's ready to help market this album because he believes in it. I honestly don't think she's had a devoted producer since the Wild Heart. Dave likes her strangness, and I'm sure we are going to get something we will all like.

I completely agree with everything you said, especially the last part. People seem very quick in their judgement and criticism. I will reserve comment until I hear the finished product. Making vast assumptions and critical opinions based on hearsay and snippets of works-in-progress is very unfair.

Is anyone here old enough to remember when the internet didn't exist? We had very little information about what was to come, except for little items written in magazines.

The fact that Dave is utilizing today's modes of direct communication is something we should respect. This is the new form of marketing and he's doing it for the benefit of Stevie. She, herself (0r her management) would probably would never even think of interfacing with fans in this direct manner.

Dave is Stevie's champion -- he respects her talent, has shown her a different way to work, and has inspired her. Really, what more can we ask for? Until I have the CD in my hands and on my stereo, I have nothing else to say about it.

Crystal, Crystal, and Crystal

Yeah, but luckily they didn't all come out at the same time and compete with each other.

But thinking of songs that came out at the same time (like Heard it Through the Grapevine), wouldn't it be great if Dave and Stevie did two different versions of the song, for their respective albums? That would keep things fresh and interesting.

Thats funny:laugh: at this point you'd hope she would have a few possible ones.

Really makes me believe that the photography and artwork have not been initiated if she hasn't settled on a title or concept.

I'm really interested to see what album title she settles on. I hope its a good one! An epic title in the same vein of her earlier albums specifically Bella Donna & The Wild Heart, and something that is symbolic of where she is today.

I agree with those well-thought and well-stated points, but I wonder if he really has 'shown her a different way to work'- I know that he said it, I know that she said it. I think the cd is going to be brilliant, it's been my gut feeling since hearing how quickly they'd recorded it, that was different. But this delay 'til March (?) 2o11 is unconscionable. A single could have been ready by late summer and the full cd could have been released by October. SN chose to wait, wanted to wait. Her call, absolutely. But now they've been tinkering with it for months, with months more to go before the release. A successful completion of 'an entirely new way to record an album' would have been for the cd to have been released quickly and not toil in post-production. It's about the songs, which are said to be great.
All the time that will have passed since their initial burst of creative energy until the cd finally drops dilutes the spontaneous synergy they achieved.
Having the music go through many months of mixing, post production and rethinking before it's released is exactly the same way she's worked for many years.
I would have liked to have seen confidence and a little boldness in just getting the cd out as quickly as it was recorded. Elton & Leon did it.

While it's very clear that Dave is her primary collaborator on this CD, everyone seems to be forgetting that he's not the only producer on-board, he just the only one using social networking tools to connect with fans, etc. Glen Ballard is the co-producer. Impressive resume of hit after hit as producer/co-writer of Morrissette's Jagged Little Pill, Dave Matthews, Aerosmith, Annie Lennox, and he was responsible for the first Wilson Phillips CD and Paula Abdul's debut, but those were two of the biggest selling CDs of the 80s with five top 10 hits to each one's credit.

You're right. I forgot that. I forget if I even knew about Ballard. I think maybe I didn't know, I don't remember. It always seemed to be about Stevie and Dave. I probably forgot.
I do know SN said in August interviews that they (she and Dave) were finished with recording and that she 'didn't want to' have the cd be released before Christmas- it was an option on the table that she declined.
I think it's fine it comes out when she wants for it to.
I just feel certain that an opportunity was missed for the songs to have an immediacy and fresh intensity that was a given at the time; due to unusually positive comments by Rolling Stone, other writers, and the thrilled music executive SN played tracks from the cd for.
I'm sure it will still be a very good cd, and I think Dave Stewart may wind up as being her best producer and collaborator in a long, long time.

Oh, that could have been spun, it's nearly 10 years, actual dates get fudged all the time.
I think SN wanted to be extra cautious, take her time, and possibly get herself rejuvenated in one way or another before the cd comes out, to look and feel her best when promoting it. That's fine, too. She'll turn 63 during the tour and deserves to pace herself and be comfortable. I still think the cd could have come out this year before the tour, ya know, so people may have 'known' the songs enough for her to do a bunch of new material at concerts and have it go over really well. I give her credit for how much of 'TISL' she put into her set back '10 years ago' when people had not had time to get very familiar with the cd. She went for it, though. Admirable.

From an interview (http://nickslive.blogspot.com/2010/07/new-stevie-nicks-interviewlots-of-info.html) Stevie did this past summer:

So the songwriting process was easier this time around?

Totally easier and way more fun. I have really never felt as in control of a situation, because Dave respects me totally as a writer and as a lyricist and as a poet. We have a song I wrote when I was 17 that is the words to an Edgar Allan Poem called “Annabel Lee.” It’s just lived in my head since I was 17. I didn’t record it about until 10 years ago. We found the demo and I’m not sure why I didn’t put it in “Trouble in Shangri-la,” but I guess things got misplaced.

Dave and Glen loved it, so we recorded it. It’s all my song except they wrote this 30-second English minuet thing that goes in the middle that is very Annabel Lee-esque. It’s fantastic. That was a good song without Dave, but with Dave and my musical director and lead guitarist Waddy Wachtel, between all of them they wrote this amazingly beautiful little piece of music. It just enhanced the song. I only know four chords so I could never write that. I took a month of guitar lessons when I was 15. I play with one note. I play well enough to write, but I don’t play enough to really play

Last night I had this dream that I heard on the radio The Ghosts Are Gone. Luckily for us, in this dream, the song was played two different times. I remember thinking I needed to memorize some of the words so I could tell them to my Ledgie peeps.

The radio DJ, which was a woman, announced after the song was played the first time, that this was a new song by Stevie Nicks that was originally scheduled to be on her new album but was removed in favor of another track. This song, she stated was from an upcoming un-named soundtrack.

The second time this song came on I was able to share the soundtrack info with the two people in the room with me who were hearing it for their first time.

There was already a lead single from the album that radio was playing already but I hadn't heard that yet. This song was released at the same time as the lead song.

These are the lyrics I memorized:
And the President says
How long must we be at war?
Well the ghosts are gone
Yeah the ghosts are gone
They've haunted me
But now they're gone

When I awoke and was excited to write these words so I wouldn't forget them, I was singing it to myself over and over and then I realized something. Remember when Peacekeeper was released as a single and you realized you could sing Paul Simon's Kodachrome right along with it? Well I realized I could sing REM's Losing My Religion right along to The Ghosts are Gone. It is very similar only in the part I just related to you. The verses in the song sounded very Stevie Nicks and it was a catchy rock and roll song.

Boo. Really? Could this be the old vault song that she described as "having a child's voice" on the demo? I was never a fan of that one. Maybe the rerecorded "older, wiser" Stevie will make it good (along with Dave Stewart's production) but I don't know. Just have to wait and see.

So if these new press release's are true, Stevie recorded her old demo "Secret Love"?

This is a bit of a shock. I have to admit, of all Stevie's old demos, she has so many great/beautiful ones to choose from, this one never stood out. I thought this demo was always a cute little ditty with a sing-songy melody. But I never ever thought she would pull this one out over Forsaken Love, China Doll, Forest Of The Black Roses, Lady From The Mountain, She Still Loves Him, All The Beautiful Worlds and on and on.

By comparison when we heard Stevie was pulling out "Planets Of The Universe" ,"Sorcerer", & "Candlebright" from the vault for TISL. I think everyone was THRILLED beyond belief. "Secret Love" does not even rank up with those songs on the excitement meter.

Did Stevie say she only recorded one "vault song" for the album, or did she mention two? I didn't remember the Secret Love demo at all, but I found it and listened to it. It was one that definitely had potential (an awful lot of her demos are not good and it's obvious why they were never properly recorded), tho I didn't think it was anything special. From the snippet we heard on the website, it sounds pretty good, tho.

In her interview with the VCStar, she says...

"I also dug out a lot of songs from the song vault. I pulled songs from 1976 that I don’t know why in the world did not go in the first Fleetwood Mac album. I must’ve misplaced the cassette. I had one of my backup singers, my sister-in-law Laurie, go to Phoenix and the storage vault where all of our old cassettes are. She found the cassette and I played it for Glen Ballard and Dave Stewart at the studio just a few days ago. It’s kind of been lost for 30 years."

This is a song you penned yourself?

"Yes, it was just me and a little piano. I think I wrote it in 1976, maybe even ’75. It sounds like I’m 5. Glen Ballard said, “So where has this little gem been hiding?”

I was able to pull four or five songs out of my song vault, and then a song I wrote about the “Twilight” movies and a song about Hurricane Katrina and New Orleans. So I came into this record with only two new songs. I had no idea I was going to write songs with Dave."

So, if 5 songs were written without Dave (since there are 14 tracks and she said 9 were co-written with Dave), and discounting Twilight & New Orleans songs, that leaves at least three songs she pulled from the vault. Of course we now know about "Annabelle Lee" and "Secret Love", which means there could be one more vault song that she rerecorded. Here's hoping!

It was actually 2009. Kim Stolz with MTV interviewed Stevie in 2009 and the first part of her interview was released and ended with "We'll have more from my interview in the coming days, including her answer to the most burning question of all: "Is it really over between her and Lindsey?" Yes, I got an answer, but you'll have to wait ..." but nothing more from this interview ever surfaced. However, early last year when word got out about Stevie making a new album, Kim tweeted this to Dave Stewart on March 5:

Space Needle, Watchdevil, Blue Water and...Cathouse Blues :) I know that's not hers, but I just adore her vocal on that demo. Oh, and If You Were My Love, and a studio version of Gold and Braid :)

Does anyone else see the irony in her choosing a ton of old songs for her new CD (as she did for TISL, well, maybe not a ton, but certainly a few) when every time she is interviewed she emphasizes that the most important thing for her is her songwriting? I'm not complaining, because I think her old songs are usually much better than her newer ones. Anyway, I can't wait to see the track listing. How long are we going to have to wait for that? :)

Sort of, but she normally tweaks them a little bit, so it's nice to see her insert a fresh "twist" on an old song.

Personally, I'd just be happy if Lady From The Mountains was recorded, it's my absolute favourite "vault" song (apart from the Angry version of Smile At You).

I generally prefer Stevie's old demos to her albums. There's a purity to the sound that is lost, IMO, on the final tracks. In a way, Secret Love was a perfect choice because it's been largely forgotten. I'm really pleased with the way it came out, and think it works well with her new voice.
But, say, Julia? Possibly my favorite solo song off Stevie's ever. And as much as I would love to see it get attention, I don't think a new version could match to old demo.

Well, in recent times she has actually said she was not writing songs as much. That was the whole breakthrough that lead to TISL...when she asked Tom Petty to help her get back into writing songs.

I think what she really was saying all these years is she is always writing her poetry (which she then turns into songs). And even if she wrote a song a month, it doesn't mean they are all equally worthy, especially for an album.

I see them as raw material and imagine what good production might do for some of them. What you get from them mostly is melody and lyrics in a raw form only.

Agree totally. The majority of them are either "bleh" (i.e., you can tell why they were never recorded for an album) or have potential but need a lot of work (Secret Love being a case in point).

It doesn't sound like we're getting a crapload of old songs on this CD. I'm thinking Secret Love, Annabel Lee, and maybe one more. The rest will be new.

We are getting two more plus Annabelle Lee according to what she said she initially brought to the project. Lots of speculation that Lady from the Mountain is one of those songs. Then she wrote two new songs. So we are getting 6 songs that were not cowritten from her. However, I bet she gives Dave some writing credit for Annabelle Lee because of the bridge he wrote to it, which she loves.

So... it's Secret Love + Annabell Lee + Two more vault songs. And the rest are all totally new? Considering the rumours that the CD has 14 tracks, 4 vault songs and ten new ones sound totally fair.

I'd love to see Cecelia or If You Were My Love along with Lady From The Mountains make the CD. I don't know why, but I really think she could do Lady From The Mountains justice if she released it now.

Wait a minute, something is not right. Maybe I wrong. She wrote Italian Summer, a song about Soldiers and a song about the Twilight Movies. Maybe we are just getting one more vault song. We aleady know that Secret Love and Annabelle Lee are in the can. She only brought 6 songs to the project. Wait! Plus, doesn't she have a song about New Orleans floating around.

Once again, in her interview with the VCStar, she says...

She said she pulled 4 or 5 songs from the vault, but we all know her memory is a bit muddy, especially when it comes to live, on the spot interviews. If 5 songs were written without Dave (since there are 14 tracks and she said 9 were co-written with Dave), and discounting Twilight & New Orleans songs, that leaves at least three songs she pulled from the vault. Of course we now know about "Annabelle Lee" and "Secret Love", which means there could be one more vault song that she rerecorded. Here's hoping!

Also, I do believe "Italian Summer" was a cowritten song with Dave...and now that I'm thinking about it, could "Soldier's Angel" be the third vault song, since it was written about 5 years ago?

Still doesn't make sense. What about the Mike Campbell tracks? Did Dave cowrite those too.
My understanding she wrote lyrics to his music.

She mentioned @4 vault songs: all from the 70's (of which 2 we know: Secret Love & Annabel Lee-though demoed for TISL - was written in the 70's) in her interviews last August.I'm expecting a total of 3 vault songs. Coincidently Stevie also pulled out 3 older demos for TISL and 3 for SYW.

And though the rumor is Stevie recorded 14 songs (which may or may not include Cheaper Than Free). The other persistent rumor is that they are going to cut about 1-2 songs, which allows for a bonus track or two. I myself am anticipating a 12 track CD, which is fine, as long as they end up releasing the bonus tracks through other vehicles, and we end up with an album that is solid and consistent. Of course we'll always debate that the bonus track(s) should have made the final cut in lieu of another track ad-naseam as in "My Heart" and "Not Make Believe".

I'm guessing the "lost" cassette of songs may have been the so-called Fritz Demos...."Anybody Out There:", "See The World Go By", "I Need You", "Amber"....

.....those seem like more of something Stevie could have lost in storage, rather than "Secret Love".....SL seems like something she might have had out for awhile.

I could be totally wrong, per usual.

I liked the song My Heart, but not the way she sang it. It was like listening to someone scrape their fingers on a chalk board. Reminded me of her vocal on Too Far From Fexas. Not Make Believe was a dud. Bad song all the way around.

Kinda like Secret Love and Annabel Lee-didn't really see these 2 coming in a million years. It's probably a good move to release the lesser talked about demos then the beloved demos/outtakes, cause we already have such affection for those and mostly end up disappointed. I am in love with what they have done to "Secret Love". I'm trying not to play it very much, cause the sing songy melody has always been infectious, and now I just cant get it outta my head. I think this bodes well for "Annabel Lee". I would be happy for "Forest Of The Black Roses" & "Lady From The Mountain"at this point - I can see her pulling these off in her current voice. Ulimately I'm most anxious about the new songs we've never heard. Especially the co-written ones with Dave Stewart & Mike Campbell, I think these will produce the most interesting and innovative of all the compositions on the album. I'm hopeful that Dave esp. will stretch Stevie beyond her comfort zone, using more eleborate chord structures that lift up Stevies songs in a whole new thrilling direction.:] So Excited!

Guys, guys, guys.... this is STEVIE NICKS we are talking about. Stevie said her and Dave did nine songs, but Dave said they did seven songs. She also said two were with Mike Campbell. So I think Dave's seven and Mike's two make the nine and Stevie's solo 5. Which are: Twilight song, New Orleans song, Anabell Lee, Secret Love, and one other song. I also assumed this was all talked about before Cheaper Than Free was decided to be put on the album. Yet we are still hearing there will be 14 songs. So which song got cut? And how do we know the Twilight song wasn't something she wrote to a Mike Campbell track? And how did Stevie go into this with only 2 new songs yet have 4 or 5 (she lost count?) old demos yet only have 5 suffering Stevie songs? That means either some songs were cut. Perhaps the Twilight song or the New Orleans song won't make it. Either way, until we get a track list, we are just not going to know. We can't go on Stevie's words alone. Case in point:

"I pulled songs from 1976 that I don’t know why in the world did not go in the first Fleetwood Mac album."

Le sigh...

Also, she goes from finding a tape of lost songs, to "this is a SONG you penned yourself?". Perhaps all the songs on the tape were just her and the piano: Secret Love, China Doll, Christian... and she was referring to the tape, not a specific song.

I will never understand anyone who ever say this. Anyone who says this is "rambling" apparently does not know the story of Mabel. The quality is poor, and perhaps she was coked up, but this song is far from a drunk, coked up babble. Mabel Normand was a real actress with a tragic life. This song speaks directly to the story of Mabel, but also illustrates the parallels to Stevie's life, making Mabel another personality of Stevie, like Lily and Sara. I feel this is a heartbreaking song and one that is severely underrated. I think it could be brilliant if redone today.

Exactly. I don't think we can go by any of these numbers Stevie or Dave have given in interviews. Stevie can't even get simple years right. Dave is no better. 7 songs cowriten with Dave, for all we know Italian Summer is included in that bunch, maybe the Twilight song is The Ghosts Are Gone, maybe its in your Dreams. Maybe a song Stevie wrote with Mike Cambell was also written with Dave. We can't make any assumptions until we see the final tracklist with writing credits next to them.

It doesn't sound like a song. I'm glad she likes Mabel Normand. Why doesn't she write a song about Francis Farmer, while she is at? I mean if she could write a song about Mabel that sounded like Bette Davis Eyes, I would be sold. She's belting anything about Mabel.

The album sounds great. The sound is very hip and "now" but earthy/organic. It is NOT slick. I even thought it sounded kind of alternative. The single sounds a like a different mix than what I heard on the disk a month ago but they often go in and mix singles differently.

This is why I don't post here too often because so many people just want to attack.

I don't know FM77, but like Mikebise, I believe him. If I recall from reading a few of FM77's posts, he said he "heard" the album. He doesn't "have" it. He is also going from memory on what he may have heard only once.

I personally had Shangri La and Lindsey's CD's months before they came out, but the last thing I considered doing was posting anything about it here. If you talk about it and don't share anything you're a troll. There are so many people here that "expect" that the intire album should be uploaded here if you happen to have it or even slip that you do. Is that right?

One one more thing. The advance CD's have watermarks embedded in them. Their purpose is to track down the person who uploaded it. So if Warner/Reprise knew the cd or even tracks from it were uploaded on the ledge or anywhere for that matter, they could find out who leaked it just from the upload information.

Sharing is a personal thing and is solely up to that person. FM77 is being very generous with the information he has provided thus far. People should be thankful for that and not "expect" anything more.

My two cents.

He hasn't provided any information at all. He sorta led us on a wild goose chase. Either put up or shut up. If you've heard the album but don't want to say a thing about fine. But don't lead people on wild lyric hunts and crap like that. He knew exactly what he was doing. Your post is manipulative in its own right. You have the priviledge of gettting music before hand, so you think you can sit back and judge. No. If you heard the album, but aren't going to say anything about it,why tell people you heard the album? This is a fansite. You know exactly what kind of questions you are going to get.

I completely understand your point of view, but nobody here is asking him to upload the tracks or upload anything for that matter. Nobody even asked him to inform us that he heard it, but he chose to do so. And he has continued to fuel the flames by posting replies that flaunt the fact that he has heard the album and knows more than he is willing to share. And he has be very generous with his information? What information? He has given us nothing. I understand if someone hears the album and doesn't want to share info. If so, don't post. Or if you just want to tell everyone you did hear it and it is amazing, then do so, but in one post. Simply say "I had the chance to hear the album because... blah blah blah... and it is amazing. I am not allowed to share any details, but you guys won't be let down... blah blah blah.." and end your post. However, if you continue to egg on the fact that you have heard the album, and you ask people to post lyrics to demos to see if you can help find out which one made it, yet at the end of the day you are unable to provide a single piece of new information, then I call bull****. FM77 needs to **** or get off the pot.

Another example. Case in point.

If you don't believe him or think he's bull****ting, just pass through his posts. Simply saying it is "an amazing album and we are all going to love it" doesn't bother me. He could equally have said it was a disappointment and a drag. Look forward to the release and enjoy what tidbits we have gotten. If we get any cool information in the meantime, that's just gravy.
Take it from someone who used to be obsessive and as thirsty for information as anybody, there are more important things in life to focus on.
Choose to believe him or not. But attacking isn't necessary.

I guess for a while I'll be considered somewhat of a troll because I gave my opinion.

I focus on way more things than The Ledge, but it is my place to get away from life and indulge in my Stevie obsession. Nothing is more irksome than seeing someone lead the whole board on a wild goose chase with no pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Therefore, I have every right to call him out on his shenanigans. I honestly don't give a damn if he has heard the album or what he thinks about it, but I do wish he would stop making post after post with no information. He heard the album and isn't willing to share anything? Great, now let's move on, don't continue to post replies that insinuate that you know and may possibly share more than what you have already told us. If you do so, then yes, you are a troll. You are someone who is deliberately making posts to evoke a massive response. Especially if your posts contradict themselves. If he feels unjustly attacked in any way, he can simply refrain from posting. It wouldn't bother me a bit.

Thanks for the heads up once again FM77, I'm thrilled to hear there will be more than one rocking song to look forward to..Do you have any info regarding DS & Stevie's Documentary?? Have you seen any footage yet??

I have seen videos/and footage. Most of it was video that Dave shot of the "making of the record" at Stevie's house. I saw a video that is absolutely beautiful of Cheaper than Free.

Wow ..I had never heard that before! It is revelation only a true insider would know!:blob2:

The Ghosts are Gone rocks..if that is the actual song title. There is another one (I think its Wide Sargassa Sea) but for the 200th time, I didn't have the titles--I am only going off lyrics or partial lyrics I remember. I never said I was an insider, la douche. I answered questions posted. Someone asked if I was in the music biz and I said yes. I described the sound of the record, the guitar-heavy sound and how great I thought her voice sounded.

I posted what I honestly remember from hearing the disk 3-4 times in its entirety in Dec. I do not have the disk any longer. I would know the record by heart if that were the case. I do know that songs speculated here were not on the record and commented on it. If I knew the name of the song I heard and loved as my favorite on the disk, I would tell you but I don't. I don't know any of the songs titles except the same ones everyone else knows or Dave mentioned.

Calling everyone "assholes" is just as mature as you coming in here telling us you've heard Stevie's new record and expecting not to get flack for it. That's great that you've heard the record, wonderful. Really, it is. But if you can't offer any information about it, then let's be honest... There's no real reason for you to mention you've heard the album. You just open yourself up for blasting. The proper & professional thing to do would've been not to mention it at all; whether you have heard it or you haven't.

Why would someone telling fans on a message board that they've heard Stevie's new record expect to get flack for it? It's absurd to suggest that someone with inside information should just keep their mouth shut instead of being generous enough to share whatever information they can with other fans. I think the majority on here who continually attack the messenger for offering bits and pieces of info are just being childish and are perhaps a bit jealous that there are some people out there who have heard the new music months before its release. As Pwyll said, if you don't believe him, move on - but there's no need to attack him.

If he works in the music industry then he knows what he can and can't say regarding new releases. It's the same in the film industry. That's what I meant by proper and professional.

And when I said "But if you can't provide information about it" ; that wasn't a question. It's a statement saying if you haven't told us anything that we don't already know (he admitted only knowing what Dave has tweeted)... then that's why there is no reason to tell everyone you've heard the record.

And I have revisited all of FM77's posts before I decided he was a troll. It was then that I realized that everything he said in relation to the album had already been said.

I never once attacked this person. I only chimed in when he/she felt the need to personally insult everyone by calling them assholes.

All I have to say is that it is rather peculiar that the only ones defending FM77 are those who rarely post here.

Really?

I think FM77 has a ring of truth to him. I'm using my Stevie Gemini Intuition here. He's never gone, "I know something you don't know!", not once. He seems laid back, gets a little frustrated when pushed too far, like everyone on the planet except for Gandhi.

The Vault/Mike Campbell songs are not ones he's familiar with. Maybe we don't know all of Stevie's songs in our incessant lyrics postings. Maybe they are truly unknown songs. And, no, I didn't know "Wide Sargasso Sea" was a rocker.

I'm not laying down my life for FM77. I just think his posts have a ring of honesty in them. And people can call him out on it, that's what comes with it. But to say:

"All I have to say is that it is rather peculiar that the only ones defending FM77 are those who rarely post here."

Well, that's not entirely true.

I can understand "intuition," but you can't deny the facts:

-FM77's descriptions have been, by and large, nondescript and/or already known via Twitter and recently published interviews.

-When pushed for specific information, FM77 claims to have no song titles and/or is restricted in his/her ability to provide details. Convenient excuses.

-If you were provided a loaner CD and you were even just a modest FM fan, wouldn't you have made a personal copy? And if asked for specific details, wouldn't you have referred to this copy to provide some clues? He/she should never, ever upload the contents of the CD, but a personal copy would have been perfectly appropriate.

-For someone who is supposedly in the "music business," don't you find FM77's posts to be a bit inarticulate musically speaking? Shouldn't his/her musical vocabulary extend just a little bit beyond "rocking" or "very good?" And don't you find it odd that someone who supposedly makes their living in the music business has no ability recall lyrics or other musical details even after repeated listenings? Here I thought people who did this for a living were actually somehow... musically inclined? On the off-chance that this is a music business insider, all I can say is that it is no wonder that the music industry is in the sh**ter right now- with that kind of limited intellectual capacity. I'm not trying to hate on dumb people necessarily; I just think dumb + delusions of grandeur = TROLL.

Totally with you there! :) I don't think music industry types even have basic musical knowledge these days, especially the performers.

I'm glad "Secret Love" is a breath of fresh air! I hope a LOT of new listeners get to hear that song!!!

Put me in the column of folks that believes him.

FM77, I am sorry that you've been treated the way you have. And that you've been "reported" for language that we've all used around here from time to time.

I believe him, but, at the end of the day, if he is lying... then it's no big deal really. I just see it as all part of the fun of the new Stevie album. Like dangling a carrot just that little bit out of your reach

Please don't resort to vulgarity. You're gonna end up getting booted if you don't watch it.

Dude, I have said over and over there are songs that ARE NOT ON THE RECORD...people kept listing lyrics and titles and I get FLAMED for it because I tell them they aren't on the record. Isn't that information about the record?

When the record gets relseaed, check every song I said WAS NOT on the record (Lady from the Mtn, Blue Water etc...and show me where I was wrong or misleading.

Do you really think people in the music business are provided "loaner" CDs of new unreleased music? How naive are you? This music was played in a room with either her and or her people IN THE ROOM. There is no opportunity to pirate CDs and send them off on the internet or copies to burn for other people. Artists have a hard enough time selling records as it is---they sure aren't giving it away months before its released.

How would a musical genius like yourself answer the following question:

Are there any rockers on the record? (is that is yes/no question????) Did I read it wrong?
