Hey,
does anyone have an mp3 of this performance? The version that Stevie performed on Saturday Night Live in 1983 is my favourite Stand Back and I'm desperate to have it on my Stevie playlist :p
Any one have it?
Thanks!

Does anyone else happen to have it - or maybe explain how to upload mp3s onto the board. I have no idea how to do things like that. :o

The easiest way is to use mediafire. Or send it me in an email (PM me and I'll give it you) and I'll put it on my account. Mediafire links don't time out either.

Damn, that was AWESOME! That's how the song should be performed! Like night and day comparing it to how Stevie sung it on Ellen.

Sensational!!! Whoever said it was so much better than the way it's been done in the last few years is correct, and it's not just because of her age!

It's called PASSION! She has SO MUCH of it in this performance!

Hi, there! welcome back!
I'm surprised to hear you say this because I thought you preferred the more mature, softer, "wiser" performer to the old quivery emotionalism.
"Stand Back" went from synth rock in 1983 (& maybe 1986) to techno rock with Fleetwood Mac. The switch never felt right to me. The latter rendition always felt too manic or rushed or something. The song does have a straightaway 4/4 grandeur that gets lost in its techno incarnation, where it just tumbles out all at a single dynamic. In 1983, the rendition grew in intensity, storylike, to the final shouts, which were the climaxes after the rising action.

Hi David!
I'd rather have a controlled and decent vocal delivery than screaming and screeching. But ultimatley, I love a vocal performance that is dynamic and rock and roll all the way. She does that here, spot on.
I TOTALLY agree with your assessment of "Stand Back" as it has progressed over the years. I miss that slower delivery of the song as opposed to the "rushed" delivery of late. Maybe Stevie could handle the song better vocally if it was done that way again.

I LOVE this!! It is the ULTIMATE performance of this song! She's so sexy here -- though coked out of her mind. I love where she sings "it was more than I could .. more than I could do .. one man, well he could not fall but he asked me for my love and that was all..."

Great post and I agree. I really don't like the way Stand Back's been done since RAL.
Oh and I'd paid top dollar to see Stevie do that on the stage today lol :p.

:]I'm so glad you all enjoyed this, it used to be on YouTube but they kept pulling it. Definetely my fave SB ever... especially where she drops the word "room" from "in the middle of my-" in the last chorus.

My favorite ever is Los Angeles Oct. 2, 1983. But the audio is pretty bad. Still, it's so good that I'd pay $5,000 for a soundboard or radio recording of it.

Slightly off topic, but...I remember being in my college dorm common TV room to watch this. Everyone knew I was a big Stevie fan. So I got so excited when she came on (remember kids, in those days, no Youtube, no computers, so it wasn't so easy to see singers that you liked on TV) and was into it and then.....that guy from the video, the dancer, came on in the middle of it and did those godawful Solid Gold dancers moves around Stevie. She was great but man, whoever thought of that was also coked out of their minds. I also remember staying up until the end, and most everyone else had left, and getting to see Nightbird live, which was amazing.
Can someone please digitally edit that guy out of the performance, then post it on Youtube so I can have a different memory of that song? :)

Are there any good versions of 'Stand Back' from the mid-late 90s when she did the 'Time of your life' ending? Just curious.

Thanks for sharing. I didn't have the mp3 of that and really enjoyed listening to it Saturday night, LOUDLY! :woohoo: I actually sent that out to a few friends. One friend responded today and told me thanks, it brightened the crappy Monday he was having.
