View Full Version : Purported Mac/Stevie releases...

I was thinking about the aborted Rumours cd/dvd repackage that was originally due a year ago and it occurred to me that there have been quite a few Mac/Stevie projects mentioned by either the members themselves or people associated with them that have yet to see the light of day (and perhaps never will). Some of us hope for and fantasise about remastered versions of the Mac 1980 Live album, Mirage and Tango In The Night but I don't recall any of the band members mentioning this would eventuate - I think we just assumed it would on the strength of the preceding three albums being reissued in 2004. However, I remember the following projects having been discussed in interviews at one point or another:

DVD Audio versions of:

Fleetwood Mac (White Album)
Tusk
Trouble In Shangri-La

(as mentioned by Ken Caillat in the past)

Remastered/Expanded versions of:

Buckingham Nicks

(as mentioned by just about everyone associated with the band for god's knows how many years)

Bella Donna
The Wild Heart
Rock A Little
The Other Side Of The Mirror

(as mentioned by Stevie herself in at least one interview)

Official Releases:

Rhiannon album
(Stevie is on record as saying that the album was completed - recorded and mastered - in the 1980's and yet conversely has also mentioned that the project continues to be a work in progress - didn't she state that her and the girls were working on this in Hawaii a year ago or so?)

A DVD collection of all the Mac promo videos and some live performances
(as mentioned by Ken Caillat on The Ledge some years ago - wasn't there a petition of some sort to get this off the ground?)

Rumours cd/dvd repackage
(originally due in early 2009 and discussed by various members of the band)

That leaves remastered reissues of certain Mac albums (pre and post Buckingham Nicks) and official dvd releases of the Tusk Documentary and Mirage Concert but I can't recall any direct comment on these by the band themselves. So I wonder what the likelihood is of these actually being released?

So is the Rumours cd/dvd officially scrapped then? Has there been actual word of this or, as ever, is it just that they haven't bothered and shouldn;t have opened their mouths with any announcement until things were actually ready to go?! So annoying!

Last year, it was actually called a "Rumours boxed set" when the tour was first announced. What was going to be on this thing? More remastering?

November of 2006 was to be The Very Best of Stevie Nicks, which got scrapped to make way for Crystal Visions in March 2007. Totally different track listing, and extra bonus tracks for the UK.

I believe the title of this or CV originally was going to be called "Reflections". There even were some press releases with that title before they changed it to Crystal Visions.

There was also Stevie's live album. She had been saying in interviews that she was going to Australia to record a live album with the Melbourne Symphony. She was going on and on about how Waddy was working on the arrangements and that some songs like "Beauty & The Beast" were originally recorded with an orchestra so they were a natural. It kept being talking about because it was going to be her first live album. And then there were apparently problems with the recording (the cameras didn't get the first two songs) so she had to redo them. Finally the whole project was scrapped. A couple of the tracks surfaced on "Crystal Visions" but the rest have yet to see light of day (except of course in bootleg form).

I'd be interested to see what this tracklisting was because the one we got on Crystal Visions is so weird!! Some of the choices are just inexplicable...

Interesting that "Long Way To Go" was on the US release also, since it was not a US single.

Very true, like how she dropped her solo ballads only to replace them with FM's. Yet she includes Rhiannon, but gives a live version only. I also don't understand why she would put Rock & Roll instead of I Need To Know since that seems to be a more likely choice considering it is her signature rock cover. And then POTU instead of Every Day? Which wasn't a mistake but I do believe Every Day was intended to be a mainstream hit

Right before the band decided to compile a "Fleetwood Mac Live" with cuts from various venues & tours, the plan -- announced frequently in the L.A. Times -- was to record the then-upcoming Hollywood Bowl shows & release a Hollywood Bowl live album. Would have been really cool, even cooler than the scattershot FM Live (even though that has some photos from the Bowl shows).

I don't believe it was ever considered, but I'd have loved a Stevie Nicks live album from the 1983 tour. Tracks from the late September & October gigs alone would have been so wonderful to me that I'd still be listening to them to this day.

The fact that Live in Boston didn't exactly light up the night sky may have been the reason that the Unleashed tour wasn't recorded for anything: DVD, CD, or even radio simulcast.

You and me both, David! I still listen to my audience recordings from that era. NO "Gypsy" will ever match that Fall 1983 era!!!!!

If this is the reason then that's really sad - and just a bit stupid! Live In Boston maybe didn't sell loads because it was an expensive, 2 dvd 1cd package that would have cost quite a bit to produce and was from a tour supporting a new album so would not be bought by everyone's parents as an essential dvd. Generalising here but you know what I mean.

Like it or not, The Dance works because it is a hits collection, which is what a lot of casual fans want.

If they just released a basic dvd of Unleashed it could sell really well! Look how well the Very Best of sold, and has always sold, in comparison to newer material.

Has there been any word at all of the remastered Stevie Nicks solo albums, have been holding off buying them when read she was going to re-release them?

That part I hadn't heard before, I'd only heard that there were technical problems. That could fall under the headline of technical problems though. Another problem with it was Stevie kept her eyes closed during much of the show. From a video standpoint that wasn't a great thing, but from an audio standpoint, that wouldn't be a problem. Same deal with the MSO being drowned out, the mixing process could fix that. Either way it's too bad, it could have made for a great album. Just as Meat Loaf and KISS did before her with the MSO.

ppfffttt! You'll be lucky! I don't see Stevie doing this at all, sorry. I think it's one of those frustrating things of hers that she just mentions and never actually bothers about. I know she cares about her fans but doing things like this makes it seem like she doesn't. She knows that fans want this to happen and yet she doesn't bother. Both Bella Donna and The Wild Heart desperately need remastered (and I think that even if she did bother to do it it would only be for these two albums) but if she was going to do it she'd have probably done it by now...sorry.

I really hope it does happen just don't want to get a copy of the old versions (which are quite difficult to find here) and then wham the new remastered version appears, perfect time would be when she and Mr Dave Stewart release their project will hang on to hope until then.

Its sad cause I think there is a market out there for this too. Same for Fmac. Yes, since this person mentioned it ......I will mention that its great or would be great (since I get 'talked' about Stevie doing this all of the time.....) but I'm sure everyone here would 'love' to have them remastered with extras too but she could do all of her solo lp's or just another 'full' box set....all done at once.........others that mention that I say this alot (which I don't every time--at least I don't think I do only when it deserves to be mentioned that is.....) I'm sure all would purchase it here....right???? so whats there to complain about ??? Of course , it doesn't appear it'll be happing & thats sad.......even if it was only in limited editions or something....same with DVD's and a picture book......ok so I've mentioned it 'again'..........thank you.........:wavey::)

But this show was not professionally video-taped. There is a fan-shot video circulating, but this show was only planned for an audio release.
I know for a fact there was no video release planned for this show. If you tend not to believe that, then tell me why, when Stevie had to redo OTR and Dreams at the end of the show, she stayed in her BAB costume and didn't change to redo those songs.

But it's a business.

Stevie doesn't own the decisions about what gets remastered and released. She may be part of the decision, but it involves many more people, who are involved with other things, too.

Whatever happened to Ken C.'s petition to get all that old stuff released?

He was also working on the DVD-A of TUSK at one point, but gave that up, too, I guess because DVD-A products waned in demand.

Yes, I remember that the TUSK DVD-A was finished, and waiting for release, when the industry decided to kill the format. It's too bad. That was the closest thing to vinyl, sound-quality wise. That, and the SA-CD format.

The world decided mp3s are good enough. Yuck.
