"In late February 2010, David A. Stewart (musician and record producer, best known for his work with Eurythmics) revealed, using his Twitter account, that he was working with Nicks on at least four new songs, including one called "Everybody Loves You".[45] [46] A 38-second snippet of the song was posted on Stewart's Twitter account. He confirmed that he and Stevie are working on an album, and said that it is being done "in a very new way". [47] On March 16, 2010, Dave reported on his Twitter that he and Stevie are now recording songs together.

NO! No world tour. That's all she seems to do is tour. Make more music and then more music. Don't spend a year touring. She's at the end of her career for god's sake.

I have yet to totally understand what he means by (the album being) done 'in a very new way'. Any opinions??

Me either... but at least it's something different from Stevie. We've all been bitching and moaning about how she never breaks the mould and tries new things... and here it's looking like she might be doing just that! I like the idea of there being a violinist present, I know that much!

I like the idea of this and here's why. If this album is purely Stevie, and only Stevie, once it's finished she will leave Dave and go off on her own and revert back to 20th century promotion for it. With Dave onboard, the whole way, right next to her, he will push her into the 21st century with diverse internet promotion ideas (as we know, he EMBRACES Twitter!), cool music videos, and he will provide an additional name that, along with her own, will create more interest, buzz and recognition, ala Robert Plant and Alison Krauss' "Raising Sand". And also, isn't it kind of like a Fleetwood Mac album anyways, since with them Stevie is also not solo and is collaborating, and i am sure all of the songs will not be duets.

Fantastic points, all of them. Though I'd prefer a solely Stevie album, I *really* like the idea of Stevie breaking from her norm, and working with wholly different people in a wholly new way. As conservative musically and career wise as Stevie's become this past decade, I've gotta give the girl props for stepping outta her comfort zone.

Although I liked the thought of a Stevie & Dave album at first, the more I think about it, the less enthusiastic I get about it. If this was a conventional Stevie solo album (produced by Dave), I don't think we should automatically assume that Stevie's going to just go out and do radio shows and TV shows. I think Dave's involvement, especially since it seems likely that this album will be released on his label, would automatically guarantee that it will be promoted using the latest media innovations regardless of whether it is a Stevie or Stevie & Dave album. Another thing that concerns me is the fact that Dave is not really very much of a draw. Don't get me wrong- I loves me some Eurythmics. But admittedly the main draw, in fact, the ONLY draw for me is Annie. Dave is an okay guitarist. Dave is an okay producer. Dave is an okay songwriter, although I have to admit that I didn't like the last Eurythmics album or the newer songs written for the Best Of collection a few years ago. Dave is a terrible singer, and his vocal contributions on Eurythmics albums have been thankfully minimal. Dave just doesn't have a built-in fanbase like Stevie. It can be safely assumed that any excitement over this project would be due entirely to Stevie's involvement, not vice-versa.

Stevie Nicks New Music: Clues on Stevie and Dave Stewart CD - Ever since Dave Stewart released the itty bitty snip of the new song "Everybody Loves You" recorded with Stevie Nicks, there has been a lot of speculation... 15 hours ago ...

If they're putting out a CD together, it's a good bet that they'll probably tour together. Dave might not be exciting, but neither was Don. We still got that exhilarating Hotel California moment when Stevie emerged. It will be great to have Stevie come out on one of Dave's songs like that -- not to mention to have her do new material in concert. Even if the CD doesn't turn out good, a fresh concert experience is worth the price of admission, all by itself.
Plus, the new promotion, interviews, photos that RockaLittle mentioned. With all that, it really doesn't matter if the album is mediocre. There's still a lot to celebrate and anticipate.

I'm pretty certain that Dave only is producing some of Stevie's solo album, not all of it, and feel more certain that it is not a 'Stevie and Dave' album.
It's Stevie sessions that Dave is producing. Whoever twitted, tweated. (twatted?) myspaced or (what was it!?!) was the only source to say it was a 'Stevie and Dave' album. It doesn't make sense, imo. I dun't believe it!
Why did Ricky Ricardo say 'DUNT' for don't?? How would he pronounce 'Can't?'
Oh, never mind.
It still wun't be a Stevie and Dave joint album. Nyet, nyet, nyet.
To my ears, the little we've heard of 'Everybody Loves You' is no duet, it's solo Stevie with a nice male harmony. nice, but generic. Dave's a great producer, but if she were recording a duet album, it would be with a 'star'- like Henley, Petty, Bono, but not the Annie Lennox guy. I know he's more than that. But it still ain't gonna be no duet album. He ain't on her level. It ain't happening that way. Ain't true.
I have now used the word 'ain't' more in one message than I have ever spoken it in my life!

Like I keep saying... at least Stevie is doing something different. Her pulling out the Dave Stewart card was pretty unexpected to me. Doing a duo album with someone like Petty or Henley, as much as I like both of them, would be treading water in my book. Even though they've boinked before, I'd still say Stevie is stepping out of her comfort zone to do this... so kudos to her! I can't say I like the sound of Stevie and Dave's voices together, but all we've heard is a snippet of what in my opinion is a very rough demo. I'm very open to this whole new chapter... and am looking forward to seeing how it develops!

Yes... I think twice after an all night coke binge in '86? Apparently his encounter with the fairy princess wasn't welcomed by her entourage, and inspired the Tom Petty song "Don't Come Around Here No More," which was co-written with Dave.

Very good point indeed! I don't mind the idea of Dave being the man behind the curtain, but like many Stevie fans, I can say I'd honestly prefer he stay there vs out front. I keep wondering if this whole thing is just a decoy anyway. On the snippet of the song Dave posted, his voice appears layered on TOP of Stevie's... like something an amateur would do. They aren't singing together at all. And people keep calling this "a nearly finished song..." but to my trained ears, this is clearly a rough demo we're listening to. I guess we'll just have to see what the next chapter holds.
I think it's also really important for Stevie fans to realize we have no confirmation from Stevie herself she's working on a record. Everybody is so aflutter, making predictions she'll be done before summer, etc... but I think those are highly uniformed opinions. Anyone who has followed this woman for nearly two decades (or more) like I have knows Stevie is flakey, and never ever works quickly. I just don't want to see a bunch of heartbroken fans if this whole thing turns out to be nothing more than Stevie recording and stockpiling demos, like she's always done.

I think a lot of Eurythmics fans feel the same way about Stevie. Many will probably complain that Dave is working with Stevie instead of working with Annie on another Eurythmics album, so on all sides, not everyone call be pleased with whatever Stevie or Dave does.
I disagree with you about what Stevie's motives might be. You might be right about her just stockpiling demos, but i just don't think that's the case here. Dave is a very busy and still in demand songwriter and producer, and i think if they were just working together for Stevie to put more reels into her closet, he won't waste his time. He's the kinda guy you call when you want to do something and put it out there. And the people she's also been hanging out with (like Glen Ballard and various photographers and producers) make me think that she must be working on something, because when she's not working on a project of some kind, then Stevie is usually a homebody. I do agree with you tho that we shouldn't expect this project, whatever it is, to be released by around the summer, because if we expect that then we will all probably be disappointed when it's not.

I have followed her for over three decades.I think the last 6 or 7 seven years have been different in that save for the Katrina song she has gven no indication that she has even been turning her writings into demos at all.The fact that she is now doing that and apparently in earnest is the reason for the excitement on here.I also agree with the poster who mentioned that it doubtful she would have enlisted Dave Stewart f she were just stockpiling demos. It does appear that she is at last on the move creatively.

I don't think it was a 'demo' that we all heard. Dave isn't working with Stevie on demos. He's producing her. Demos she would have brought with her or given to Dave before they started working together. It was, I believe, an unmastered studio recording, no demo, of 'Everybody Loves You'. A major producer doesn't work on demos, someone else would have 'produced' any demos. That was a rough 4o seconds or so of of what we'll hear.
I'm still surprised some people think it's a Stevie and Dave duet album.
And I never meant that she should record a duet cd with Bono or Petty or anyone else. I only meant that she'd be more likely to work with a 'name' -than not, if she were going to go off and record a duet album. It's a Stevie album.*
*except if it isn't.

no way. I'm almost as hardcore a fan of the Eurythmics as Stevie. No one want Dave's vocals on a record (sorry) :p He did a great job on his first solo album, Spiritual Cowboys, but on the whole 'we' prefer him firmly BEHIND the scenes (where he truly does shine)

I'm very surprised by all of this, and first of all, I'm really happy to hear some new Stevie stuff, and I actually think that the snippet isn't bad at all, for 40 seconds.
I live in France, so I don't have exactly the same point of view. When you say that Dave Stewart isn't a "name", I say that, here, he's famous, or at least, Eurythmics is, while Stevie is NOT. If they do an album together, and, especially if it's a duet album, I know i'll hear about it, and that's a really good thing.
I'm afraid of the co-writing thing (is he writing with her? I mean "Everybody loves you" is Stevie's or not? Nevermind)., I don't know if it'll work. And I don't want Stevie to loose her Rock n' Roll.
But, besides that, I'm really excited about everything, and I'm not against a tour neither :). Let's wait and see.

I am not sure I agree with this. All we know right now is that, per Dave Stewart's tweets, they are writing together and probably recording rough versions of the songs they have written together...4 in total. That is all I have seen at least. I dont think it is safe to say he is producing her at all.

You can't tell me with a straight face that clip we've heard is a fully fleshed out song that's ready to go on an album. It's very, very rough. Awful fake synthesized orchestra in the background, Dave's voice slathered over the top of Stevie's like he used Elmer's glue, etc. It's a very rough early cut, at best. And he's said all along he's: "writing songs with Stevie Nicks."

And he's said all along he's: "writing songs with Stevie Nicks."
You mean like the "awful fake synthesized orchestra" that has appeared on every Stevie album since 1985? Actually in the case of ELY, I think the strings are real. As for Dave's vocal, there are a number of Eurythmics songs that feature Dave mumbling tunelessly under Annie's soaring voice, slightly out of synch, even- that seems to be kind of his trademark.
I tend to believe that there is some serious recording going on in addition to writing. For one thing, they would not be holed up in a real state of the art recording studio if Stevie was just doing this for ****s and giggles. Yes, it is Dave's studio, but there is an opportunity cost involved when the studio is occupied and is unavailable for other (paying) musicians to rent. Secondly, I would tend to think that if things were so low-key and casual, Dave and Stevie would be exchanging ideas via (Karen's) e-mail or that he would continue to just hang out at her house. Even though they are friends, I doubt they are so close that Dave is just doing this for free- they must have all kinds of executed agreements with numbers keeping their lawyers, accountants and publishers busy. This ain't their first times at the rodeo...

Just curious as to where you saw that they were in Dave's recording studio. All I heard was that he was going back and forth to her house helping her write songs and they were probably recording them on some home studio equipment of Stevies.

well i finally put my finger on what his voice layered on Stevie's reminded me of - one of those Kidz Bop songs, or a song they play where some old dud is singing over a chorus of kids....IMO that's what it sounded like. Kinda like Stevie's voice was being tuned out...maybe that's a bit harsh, but it's what i'm hearing.

I'm not discounting the end product: an album of some sort... I'm just disagreeing that this is a finished, or anywhere near finished song. It just sounds like a very, very early cut to me. My whole point with sticking my opinion into this thread repeatedly is I keep seeing people say they think this whole project will be done in a couple of months. That's just not realistic. Stevie seems to almost always have a major personnel shakeup when she records. Just look at TISL for example... how many incarnations did that go through before it came out? Sheryl Crow, Dallas Austin, John Shanks, etc. It's not just TISL either, look at her track record. RAL went through arguably an even bigger shakeup.I just think people who feel this is a locked in and done proposition with results to be expected quickly are in for a nasty disappointment. I'm not saying I believe Stevie's simply stockpiling demos here... but I think it is important to remember she's worked with her "famous friends" stockpiling demos before. Just think of the Tom Petty "Gypsy" and Tom Petty "Battle Of The Dragon" (both atrocious, by the way! ). I think we probably will see an album out of these sessions with Dave, but I think it's entirely too premature to start guessing anything about the end product, what it will be, when it will be released, who it will be with, etc.

Maybe you're right, those several who brought up good points. Maybe it was just a first 'rough', maybe he's not producing her but just writing and recording songs to be redone later with another producer. Maybe she's just trying things out. I hope that it's an album, though. Since he works fast, I hope the Dave Stewart-Stevie collaborations see the light of day, sooner than later.

I'm not disagreeing with you that it *may* be a while before any recordings get released. But you have to admit that this is all uncharted territory for Stevie. Not only does she have a writing collaborator, she has a multi-instrumentalist, arranger, producer, studio-owner and record label owner as well. And not least importantly, he seems like a bit of a taskmaster; Stevie could use the discipline. All of these could help catalyze the normally geologic pace of hunting around for studios, hunting around for producers, meeting with A&R people, hunting down session musicians, getting label approval, etc. If this is indeed a duet project and gets released on Dave's label, all of these become non-issues. Considering Dave's work ethic, the resources at his fingertips and his facility with recording, I think there is reason to believe that we will see something much sooner than we would have in the past. Assuming they are still working diligently every day (Dave's Twitter has been suspiciously quiet lately), they could finish the basic tracks next month and theoretically have everything mixed up and ready for release by July- perfect for a summer shed tour! Yes, this would have been unthinkable even ten years ago, but nowadays I don't think it is completely outside of the realm of possibility.

BTW, those Heartbreakers versions of "Gypsy", "Dealer," etc. seem to be more than merely demos. Yes, they were working out the arrangements in the studio, but they were also seriously recording at the same time. It seems that the entire Bella Donna album was comprised of nothing but snippets of these working/writing studio sessions cobbled together into seamless little masterpieces.

I say that I don't believe in astrology, and believe that I don't believe in it :)
...yet, I contradict myself now and then on the subject, it's a Gemini thing. Shoot, it happened again. Well, the Gemini in me knows that a Gemini will have certain goals they shoot for, especially when frustrated. I think maybe Gemini Stevie is trying to give herself a birthday present, thinking "I'll finish a new album just before my birthday and it will be my present to myself and it will be all done when I'm still 61". It would also take away any regret she may (or may not) have for her year on the 'Unleashed' tour, very financially rewarding, but a big chunk of time spent back in the past, when there's really just a handful of years left for her recording career.
So, I think she hopes to finish up this solo album by late MAY while she's still 61. It'll be like gaining a year, to a Gemini, it just would be, I can't explain it. "61. Toured with Fleetwood Mac and earned 10 million dollars and recorded my first full solo album since Trouble In Shangri La. 62 starts with the new cd out, some concerts, and beginning work on a new Fleetwood Mac cd. Chris will come back for it.".......
Someone else ( I think quite a young Ledgie in his 20s) wrote a cpl days ago that these are the last years of her career, and it could be true. I see her performing at 70 easier than I see her getting new albums released...
Again, not that I believe in this stuff, but a lot of Gemini's plans do not get realized. But deadlines, like birthdays, can sometimes make a lot happen, faster. I really think it's a solo album we will see this year.

Excellent points. In our excitement we all may be jumping the gun and stretching reality as far as the time it takes to do an album, especially when Stevie is involved. And Dave himself did not confirm that this is a "Stevie + Dave album", but it was the Eurythmics News Facebook page (which is probably equivalent to nickslive blogspot). So i totally see your point in just going with what we have, and not taking the information we are receiving and imagining up all these scenarios and release dates.
I do think that Stevie and Dave are going to stick this one out together, the whole way through. They are working so quickly that it looks like something really solid is coming together. And according to Carissa Couch's myspace page, she is doing a photoshoot with Stevie on April 11th, so maybe the process is going faster than we all have expected, but until i hear more news about that i'm not going to jump to any conclusions.

That's the key, you like them both. There are Eurythmics fans out there, especially in the UK, who will not be happy about Dave working with Stevie instead of Annie, but i'm glad some Eurythmics fans are excited about this project!

Am I the only one who finds his grammar insanely annoying??? I know in one post he said something about going to "Stevie Nick's house" and then another he said "we are doing "album" in a very new way" instead of a album or the album, and in his response to me he put a space before the exclamation mark. Grr.
Moving on...
I wonder if maybe Stevie told him not to tweet anything else? Or maybe she got pissed that he was tweeting stuff and told him "Don't come around here no more!"

We all know Stevie's feelings about Twitter, the internet, and computers in general. I'd find it hard to believe she'd sanction Dave's pre-marketing... and it'd be easy for me to see her showing him the door if he did all that under her nose. Thats exactly what I'm thinking. And it makes me a little uneasy because I wonder if in 5 years she is going to be giving some interview saying "Well, I was going to make an album five years ago but..." and then lambast Dave Stewart for his tweets and possibly clinginess. Which I wouldn't blame her, but I would be pissed if twitter ends up being the reason Stevie waits longer to put out a new album.

This is true, BUT, we don't know what happened behind the scenes, or what agreements have been made within the band. Mick recently said in an interview that now that his Blues Band tour is finished, Fleetwood Mac will be taking an at least 18 month break before getting back together again, so i for one am thrilled Stevie decided not to sit around on her tuckas until September 2011. I really think once this album is released (which could even be this year, fingers crossed) and the promotion/tour is over, Stevie will take a few months off, and when the rest of the band is ready to go into the studio, she will gladly join them.

Totally. If it was a unanimous decision or if somebody other than Stevie plead for the 18 months, then, yes, I applaud Stevie more than anyone who will not be giving us new material (Lindsey, that's a throw down!). So you're right that I shouldn't assume the 18 months are cuz Stevie wants to do this Dave Stewart thing. I'm convinced-ish. Good for Stevie! :]

Are you kidding? Stevie has devoted a huge part of her musical career to Fleetwood Mac and almost always puts them first. Why do you think she's said all of her songs are available to Fleetwood Mac? She has been beyond loyal to the band and managed to have a sucsessful solo career at the same time. So she wants to do some recording on her own? She has every right to do that and in fact I bet the Mac members support her. Lindsey does his own thing and so does Mick. And maybe the members of FM don't want to do an album right at this very moment. I really don't understand how you could consider this a slap in the face. That's laughable to me.

I think he is referring to all of the mendacity surrounding their motivation to go on a greatest hits tour- supposedly to get their chops in shape for the studio. Over time it seems to have gone from "we're excited about going to the studio" to "hopefully something will happen" to "the band will be on hiatus for 18 months." I'm not sure if it's a slap in the face, but it sure seems like something happened over the course of the tour that made an album less and less likely to happen...

I think people are deluded and just think they are working with Stevie Nicks. Peter Asher said he was working with her back in January for some Buddy Holly tribute album, but we didn't know if she was doing a song for the album or if the song they were doing was something different, yet details of his work with Stevie and about the Buddy Holly tribute album have yet to surface. Michelle Branch had Stevie produce a song for a Fleetwood Mac tribute album, yet no news on that either! And Dave Stewart has been writing and recording with her, but so far he is the only one to mention it! And some woman is doing a photoshoot of Stevie this month. I wouldn't be surprised if the pictures never turn up. Stevie has probably spent all of 2010 in England drinking wine and vodka tonics with Christine while all these people here are having schizophrenic visions of working with her! Oh the elusive ways of Stevie Nicks.
But on a serious note, I think we haven't heard anything from her because she hasn't really had the opportunity to talk about it. She hasn't had an interview or anything and I think the grammys could have been a great segway into getting her on some TV shows where she could say "I'm planning on doing a new album!" but since it turned into how awful Taylor Swift was, she knew an interview would be focused on Taylor Swift's horrible singing rather than what Stevie has been up to.

I don't discount the possibility that it is a Dave solo album. However, it seems odd to me that he and Stevie would be writing so many songs and spending so much time together in the studio. But then again, in one of Dave's recent tweets, he did mention that he was writing songs with Joss Stone as well , which lends credence to the Dave solo album rumor.
Was this the Starbucks in that little shopping center in Malibu with the big Banana Republic store in the middle? Some years ago I saw Robert Downey Jr. (freshly out of rehab) there walking away with four venti something-or-others while yapping on his phone. It must be quite the celebrity haunt!

It all makes perfect sense if you really think about it. No doubt they're working on several songs, and will cherry pick the best one(s) at a later date. For Stevie, this is probably the perfect, no-pressure way to come off the yearlong roller coaster Mac tour: go record a few songs with an old FuBu for his album  . Oh well... at least she's still working, still creating something new. She hasn't pulled a Greta Garbo on us... I guess we should be grateful!

I agree with your points here.
We all have to think about this logically before we start hitting our heads against the wall in frustration about this being a Dave solo album. Stevie and Dave have been working together since February 22nd and are still working together, as of today, April 2nd. So for 6 solid weeks, they have been writing and recording at breakneck speed. If Stevie was only contributing a few songs to a Dave solo album, why would they still be working together, why would they have written that many songs together (about 6 or 7), and why would she be hanging out with him and Glen Ballard in their studio? Stevie isn't the "hanging out" kind of person when the project isn't about her solo work or Fleetwood Mac, so i just can't see that being a possibility since Stevie has invested so much time and work into this project. Also, Dave is an extreme multi-tasker...remember, included in his very first tweet about Stevie, he said he had written and would be performing a song with Colbie Callait. Dave is able to do different projects at once because he is mainly a songwriter and producer these days. Also, i think the reason Dave hasn't directly answered the question about whether this is his or Stevie's album is because it is a collaboration album with the two of them and he doesn't want to "spoil" the surprise yet.

Wow, there's a whole lot of conjecture and inferences going on in this thread!
I just want to bring up that over the years, Stevie has done lots of work with other artsists, producers, etc. that ended up turning into something else. Even if everyone's thoughts on this are true, it doesn't mean it will ultimately become "product" that resembles what it is now.
Think "Mirror Mirror" album.
Think "Dallas Austin".

Yeah, that's what I've been saying all along on various threads about this purported new project. It has a very high chance of spinning off into something else. Stevie might just like recording these few songs so much that she decides she wants to do the full SOLO record thing instead. Who knows...

Dammit, if this turns out to be a solo album from Dave with just one or two songs with Stevie I'm gonna be SO DISSAPOINTED!
Well, if he uses two songs and the other two songs that they omitted are somehow leaked to us, that will still be great.

Hmmm...it's called Malibu Colony Plaza...there is a Starbucks there also...you're thinking about Malibu Country Mart where there is a playground and Starbucks as well....oh, and Banana Republic. The Colony Plaza is a better choice, imo, for Starbucks, haha. Dave was only getting 1 latte, so I guess he wasn't getting one for his home girl, Steves. haha. She was prolly out looking for TMZ again to take her picture, haha.

Hmmm, I heard that this isn't a Stevie solo project at all, but that it is a Dave project and that he is getting together artists that he'd like to sing with and have them do songs. So....what it sounds like to me is that this is going to be a Dave solo album. So sad.
I realllllly hope this isn't true. If it is, what is she waiting for??? Why is she writing stuff and working on someone else's album?? I mean, we know she's working with Dave and we know she's working with Michelle...how long is she going to keep us waiting for something Stevie?? Doesn't she know how insane the anticipation is for her to put out a new album...can't someone tell her?? If we could just get the woman on twitter or something we could beg her for something new :D
On the other hand, at least we know she's being creative and productive...I guess that's good news in itself.

Why are people freaking out over unconfirmed hearsay? Our greatest source of information right now is Dave, and he's been very reliable, so until he says otherwise, this is a Stevie Nicks and Dave Stewart record.

Nobody has said that, but the other day I was thinking about it and I truly believe Stevie is the one holding out on going into the studio. Remember how about a year before the Unleashed tour Sheryl Crow was saying she was going to join Fleetwood Mac? Yet a year later, they are going on tour with no Sheryl, and when asked about it Lindsey kinda said she had taken it upon herself to announce that, but Stevie made sure she said "I did ask Sheryl to join.." It got me to thinking, maybe, just maybe they asked Stevie to do a new Mac record in 08 and she refused, since Chris wasn't going to do it. So they began bargaining with her, and she probably suggested getting someone like Sheryl to join the band and they probably considered it. The reason I think she wants someone like Sheryl is no because she a woman, because she has other women around her (Lori, Sharon, Karen...), but because can produce too and she is also a song writer. I think Stevie hates the fact that the only songwriters in the band are her and Lindsey, and since Lindsey is Mr. production know it all, he makes his songs sound the way he wants them, yet Stevie is stuck letting him do whatever he wants to her songs. And when she voices her opinion, it becomes a battle between him and her so I think Stevie doesn't just want a female friend there, but she wants someone who is also an integral part of the band to add a perspective and who can also stand up to Lindsey. So in Stevie's mind, she knew she wouldn't do another record with them without another female, so she went ahead and asked Sheryl, but after Sheryl announced it to the world, I'm sure Stevie was talked to about how having Sheryl join would not be the best thing and blah blah blah. Long story short, they convinced Stevie to atleast tour with them and see how she liked it, because a tour would be a lot easier than making an album. She wouldn't have to work with Lindsey everyday, face to face, but rather do a show with him every few nights and rehearse sometimes. And I think they all had hopes that Stevie would enjoy the tour and warm up to Lindsey and learn how to deal with him again, but I think when it was all said and done Stevie decided she still isn't ready to do an album with the Mac. Mick said something in his 18 months off comment about hoping to do more work and more recording but he doesn't know whether that's really gonna happen or not, which seems to me like maybe Stevie said, "You know what? I'm still not ready to go into the studio and do a record. It has been so long since I have done anything new in my solo career and we just toured the world. How about we take a break, say 18 months, so I can do something with my solo career and really give my fans something. And then after all that, the market for Fleetwood Mac will be much better and we can get together and see where we go from there."
All that being said tho, who knows if it is true. It is just my speculation. 18 months off would put them about half way thru 2011, which would put them in a great place for a 2012 release and being that 2012 will be the 35th anniversary of Rumours, it could work out as a good year to market Fleetwood Mac. So there may be some master plan behind the break that isn't focused on Stevie, but rather on the band as a whole and when the market will be best for them. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
Didn't Dave say at some point that the songs they were co-writing would most likely be in respect of a Stevie solo album? Does someone have a record of all his tweets to verify this?

...and tour till she's in granny panties. You know what though - I wouldn't be mad at her for it. She has given us so much for 30+ years. Her career has outlasted 95% of artists. Maybe she wants to keep some things sacred and have a life that doesn't necessarily include promoting a solo release which is a huge thing.

Someone asked him if she had any plans of doing a new solo album and he said something to the effect of "I could definitely see that, she is in top form"
http://ethrill.net/?s=stevie+nicks
He “wrote a great song with Stevie Nicks on Monday called “Everybody Loves You”" – it might end up on a new Stevie Nicks solo album, Stewart definitely sees that possibility.
In addition to this, I'm sure Dave made another comment on twitter about working on a solo album for Stevie. I concur that it's possible that only some (or even none) of the collaboration will eventually surface but I sense they will work together and hope something does indeed become of it.

Yea, you're totally right, he said that on Feb 28th, when they were still writing songs. This whole thing has been very confusing. It is possible that a Dave solo album could have turned into a Stevie and Dave collaboration album. That guy Adam directly asked him if the demo was for a Stevie solo project, and Dave said "yea", so maybe "his" album has become "their" album. Dave is selectively answering questions, so it seems he's trying not to give too much away.
Dave's responses, though vague (perhaps intentionally so), are in the affirmative when responding to questions about Stevie making an album. I believe when he mentions "we are making (an) album", he is referring to them collaborating in terms of him producing her album. (I understand that he is also tentatively working on his own solo album but I believe this is a separate project.)
It also happens that they are writing together and so when Dave refers to "making (an) album in a very new way", I think from Stevie's perspective, it is unusual for her to be recording songs that have only just been written. We know that she usually enters the studio forearmed with a multitude of songs, sometimes dating back some thirty years so this would be an atypical experience for her (hopefully an engaging and inspiring one though).
You know, the more I think about it, I am certain Stevie is actually making an album of her own. Think back to Lindsey's comments last year regarding the prospect of a new Mac album and the suggestions for an outside producer, of which Dave was one. I remember thinking that his choices would have likely been Daniel Lanois and Rick Rubin whilst I was sure Dave would have been Stevie's preferred option. Considering that the original intention was for the band to get back into the recording studio in January 2010 so that they could strike while the chemistry of touring together was still fresh, I suspect Dave may have already been booked for production duties. Since the band have elected to go on hiatus, I reckon Stevie has decided to take advantage of the stituation and utilise Dave. Let's face it, Dave is still an in-demand producer and wouldn't exactly be sitting around waiting for Stevie to call so this period of time would have been intentionally pre-arranged, especially since they have spent the better part of the last three months working together and seem to be continuing doing so.
The ironic part of course is that Stevie and Dave seem to be "writing from the ground up", the very thing Lindsey had previously spoken of them doing for the next Mac record. I wonder if Lindsey just cracked the ****s when crunch time came in regard to settling on an outside producer because he thought Stevie would back down at the last minute and let him take the reins?

I agree, but I must say that she really hasn't had the chance to say anything about it yet. Of course she could put it out there if she really wanted to, but I think since it is in the early stages she doesn't want to prematurely announce it. Also, she did say she planned to work on a solo album when the whole Fleetwood Mac thing was over. But it is kinda early and if the rumours are true about her contract at WB, she doesn't have a label yet. So maybe she wants to figure some more stuff out before she announces anything. I do agree tho, I would not bet on it until she says something. Actually, I wouldn't even bet on it until the album is in my hands.

You know I've been thinking a bit more into what Dave Stewart tweeted re: " yeah we are making "album" in a very new way"
Because recordings do not move huge units like they did in the old days w/ rare exception. Recording royalties for artists are drying up, and it's no longer cost effective to have big budgets for new recordings, as Stevie was very accustomed to!!
I infer that Dave means by "new way", that Stevie is making "album" w/ a much smaller budget & utilizing someone like Dave who is a multi instrumentalist & his studio equipped with all the latest modern recording technology & roaster of musicians to call upon, to record a new solo cd much more cost effective than what Stevies is use to.
Gone are the days of recording in a mansion for months on end (as w. SYW & OSOTM), And booking multiple studio's with multiple producers & musicians over the course of a couple of years (as w. RAL & TISL). She is reigning in and succumbing to technology because she has no choice in the current music landscape. There are very few record stores anymore, and limited shelf space in big box stores...So to release a new CD/ recording she must embrace the web!! Stevie no dummy. never has been. She is very practical and knows the reality of the music industry, even if she still hates tech.

And in Destiny Rules, we see Lindsey cutting tape on the reel that Stevie just recorded to! When i first watched it i thought to myself, "it's 2003, why is Lindsey cutting tape?" That album was pretty much produced using an analog method. If Lindsey did the production using digital equipment, it may not have taken almost 2 years.

Yeah, that always baffled the crap outta me too. Maybe that's one of the reasons why Stevie is insisting on an outside producer for any new Mac project. She KNOWS they can't rent a multimillion dollar mansion for 2 years to lazily record and rerecord tracks while gobbling through huge studio advance$. Those days are long gone... they were damned lucky to get one last taste of it from Warners with SYW. Plus, I can't imagine in her mid 60s that she'd wanna spend that much time with Lindsey, anyway. Also, she did somewhat embrace the internet for TISL. I think she teamed up with VH1 and if you pre-ordered TISL thru vh1.com you got to listen to all the tracks before its release date. So I do believe that she is very knowing when it comes to the music industry today.

While Stevie has appeared to be flakey at times in the past, with pushed back release dates & projects she mentions that have never come to fruition, She now is fighting mother time. As long as she is healthy and able, I believe she wants to record as quickly as possible if the music and inspiration are there. Stevie has mentioned many times over that she does not like to labor in the studio forever on end, & in today's music industry, unless your selling like Beyonce or Lady Gaga, it is not cost effective anymore.
Being a long time fan, the endless delays really began with RAL, then arose again with "Street Angel" & TISL. "Bella Donna" & "The Wild Heart" were recorded within a year and released on time back to back, w. "Mirage" in the middle! OSOTM was also recorded within a year and released on time. So I think that if Stevie sticks w. one producer along with herself, and the relationship & creativity is fruitful, these new recordings will see the light of day....sooner than later. My guess would be late summer/fall, unless she hold it till next spring to do a summer shed tour. But it's not unheard of to release something in the fall/winter...and still tour the following spring/summer, like she did w. RAL
Stevie has toured nearly every year the last decade, whether solo w. FM or Tom Petty, and has rested on her laurels starting really in 2005, when she toured behind nothing during the "Gold Dust" tour until now, basically touring w. greatest hits. I think she must be somewhat tired of the old material by now (as evident with her adding so many covers in her solo set, probably to make it interesting for herself, or digging up an old FM chestnut that has never been preformed before), So whether she was waiting for the music industry to change or just wanted to make some great $$ on the road while she was still healthy & able, I really think Stevie knows this is the time for new recordings/songs. I remain optimistic...we will get new music.:)

Not to stray off-topic, but I just noticed that the Dave Stewart-Joss Stone collaboration has already been released as a single on iTunes- to benefit breast cancer awareness or something like that. It seems like it was only a couple of weeks ago that he was tweeting about writing songs with her. Perhaps this can be viewed as a benchmark of the speed with which he gets things done! I hope some of his work ethic rubbed off on Mama!

All of that is very logical, and I hope that's the exact mantra and path Stevie choses to follow. The only thing that I think works against that is precisely your core argument: her age and years in the biz. Stevie is entering into her 4th decade in the records and recording biz. I don't know anyone else who's been in the same line of work for 4 decades who is putting in harder, more hurried hours than they were when they started out their careers. I don't know, I guess at this point in the game, Stevie's earned the right to work exactly how, when, where, etc she wants. My logic tells me she still has something to say, and she wouldn't want to toil away on it forever getting it released. At this point, her game should be so sharp that it shouldn't be necessary to even waste any time. But then again, that should be the case even MORE SO for Fleetwood Mac... and we saw what they did last time around!

Eh, good point...but then again how would we expect to get the info even if she WAS...
I mean, the NicksFix doesn't do sh*t with updates, and there is no reason for anyone to be interviewing her at the moment so she isnt gonna slip the info in that way, SHE is never going to "tweet" any updates... As much as I am not banking on an "album" at this point, I would not be surprised if something does in fact surface from this in the near future. (I hope! ha!)

I'm not holding my breath. Soundstage was coming out in 2008, but didn't make it out until 2009. And her book "The Wild Heart" was supposed to come out in the 80's (1985 I believe) and had an ISBN and everything, but never surfaced. If there is one thing I've learned when it comes to Stevie Nicks, it's don't get your hopes up on anything until it is in your hands.

Exactly. Stevie will always be working in some form or fashion. But never in a timely sense. She does what she wants to do, when she wants to do it. Everything always gets pushed back, postponed, and canceled. Nature of the beast. She's not done, she never will be. But you can never, ever rely on what she or her management says, either...

Exactly. I think it's sad that her method of working, and allowing announcements to come out that never lead to anything, have led to this feeling among her fans - it doesn;t reward them very well, does it? This is why I'm not hugely excited about the new album (?) until there's an actual official announcement, and even then...

Well to me, it's not that he confirmed a release date, but the fact that he clearly acknowledged that there is actually an album, and that it's Stevie's album, is what's most exciting. I remember last week when someone tweeted him:
@DaveStewart "hi Dave, any news on what Stevie's doing? When will your album be out? Did she record the New Orleans song yet?"
12:08 AM Apr 9th via HTC Peep in reply to DaveStewart
and Dave replied:
@adambradnick "album could be out this year for sure"
5:08 AM Apr 9th via UberTwitter in reply to adambradnick
and everyone thought Dave was referring to his own solo album and coming to all of these conclusions. Well, we now know he was talking about Stevie's album, so Dave essentially confirmed twice that her album could very well be out sometime this year, and most importantly, it's her album.

but the question was regarding Dave's album, not Stevie's. And he said it could be out this year. He never said anywhere that it's NOT his album and indeed Stevie's. No, actually, both questions were pertaining to Stevie's album. Dave is also making an album, but told someone in March that his album is no where near finished, so both responses were about Stevie's album that he is a part of. It would not be possible that he is referring to both his own and Stevie's album coming out this year if he's been so busy working with Stevie for the past two months.

The April 9th tweet you posted asks about his album, not Stevie's. I don't see how one can assume his answer is about Stevie's alleged album when he was asked about his. Maybe his album isn't anywhere near being finished but it's only April and it could possibly be done by the end of the year, couldn't it?

The guy who asked about "his" album meant the one he's been working on with Stevie. If you look back in the guys history, he's only been asking about Stevie. I don't think it really matters either way, it's just refreshing to see Stevie working on a project with someone like Dave.

we all know "the guy" was asking about Stevie's alleged album, but how does Dave Stewart know that he meant a Stevie Nicks album and not a Dave Stewart album? "Your album" could mean either. I'm not trying to be overly argumentative here; I'm just trying to point out the very large grey area that surrounds all of this and that there's a tremendous amount of assuming taking place regarding if and when Stevie will be releasing a solo album. No one has confirmed this yet. The fact that Stevie is writing and recording songs is a wonderful thing, but it doesn't guarantee a release.

God, I hope that's true. This is so very unlike her to not have marketing in the pipeline well before an album release. Is Stevie still under contract at Warner's? I think Soundstage fulfilled her obligation, right? I guess that's what Dave Stewart might have meant with the whole "making an album in a new way" comment. It'd sure explain an awful lot.

My theory is that unless he does that (is ambiguous), Stevie will not allow him to post anything. We all know that Stevie isn't a fan of the internet, but she is probably authorizing his posts about their project on the basis of mystery. I was shocked that he provided us with that snippet a week after they began working together, and if Stevie actually knew and approved him posting that, i'd be flabbergasted!

He is and it really pisses me off. I asked him point blank earlier today if he had any idea as to when we will be able to hear his and Stevie's new songs. He has yet to reply, but I have a feeling if he does it will be something like, "I do have an idea" or "Sometime soon" or "in a few months". I highly doubt he is going to say "Oh we are shooting for around mid-August." Grr...
I'm bemused by some of the reactions regarding Stevie's current project and surprised that anyone really expects her (or a potential record company) to be publicising or promoting whatever it actually is that she's currently working on. I would imagine that she's still in the early stages of creation and that she may possibly work with other producers/writers before the "album" is completed.
I still remember Stevie stating that the Trouble In Shangri-La album had been finished as of Sep 30, 2000 but it wasn't released until May 1, 2001. Promotion geared up a few months prior to the release but any mutterings in the press beforehand were from associated collaborators. As opportunities arose, Stevie commented on the making of the album but that was during promotion for other events such as one-off concerts.
I think we all need to be a tad more patient because I honestly don't see anything being released this year. I hope to God I'm wrong about this though.

I agree...we're getting momentary glimpses of a solo Stevie project like never before. Dave doesn't have to do this. And he's certainly not doing it "at music lovers' expense" -- are you serious with this kind of comment?
Dave is a highly respected producer and a big star in his own right. He is not some press agent gone rogue, releasing tidbits to get us into a frenzy. He has his own fans and is simply doing what he does. And we are benefitting. C'mon! Lighten up! This is fantastic news and we are not owed dates or details, which may not even have been decided yet.

well, i can officially say that i am not excited about this project. I can't stand Dave Stewart, and the idea of a Stevie/Dave album makes me sick. I may listen to the album online, but i won't buy it...i hate to see Stevie use another artist as a crutch.:( She is so much better than Dave and she knows it.

Fine, but don't bring the rest of us down with you. I find it ridiculous how people complain about Stevie not releasing new music in almost a decade, and when she is about to, people complain about her collaborators. I also find it interesting that you have not heard one completed song from this album, yet you have already made the decision not to buy it. Pretty rash, don't you think??

goodness gracious! I most certainly am! I'm different though, because i'm the youngest here. I HAVE NOT been complaining about no new music. I am incredibly thankful she is putting new stuff out. You're absolutely entitled to your opinion about Dave, and about Stevie's collaboration with him, and about anything else, but i think the general opinion or idea about Dave is that he's so below Stevie that them working together is a waste of time, or it's just really confused people. But I, like others who are just as excited about this album feel that he's fostered her creativity like no one else has in the last decade, and whether it's a duets album, or a straight-up solo album, it's all exciting and definitely not the norm for Stevie.

Dave mentioned working with Stevie in his interview this evening. Here's her mention in the write-up:
"Dave also spoke about working with Stevie Nicks, that 6 tracks are recorded so far and they will try and complete the album in the Summer, and that he is hoping to play live with a “bunch of reprobates”"

I agree. When Stevie was working on TISL, she recorded several tracks with Dallas Austin, and then decided that she didn't like the way they sounded, which delayed the album.
And then there was the whole Mirror Mirror debacle, where Jimmy Iovine quit and she had to basically start over.
And the delay of Street Angel so she could have the album reproduced, because she didn't like the way the songs turned out due to Klonopin and Glynn Johns production techniques.
It's easy to be skeptical; Stevie has trained us well.

It's unfortunate that Stevie has basically set us up for disappointment due to her past actions. I don't blame anyone for being wary of a new album's release until it's on the shelves...even Soundstage was delayed for about 8 months, although i think that was due to her management's brilliant idea to release it during the Unleashed Tour...it would have performed better if it just came out on its original release date, but you live and learn. And i honestly think this album will be released on Dave's label, WME.

People are different and have different views on everything, that's what makes the world go round. It would be horribly boring if we all agreed on everything (and so would this board). From what I've seen there has been very little hostility but rather differing opinions which I would consider healthy. One thing we all agree on is that we love Stevie (or have loved her in the past, David) and that's what ultimately matters. If people are getting seriously angry and/or their feelings hurt I suggest you put it all into perspective and and keep these things in mind.

If it helps, I will explain my issue with this. She is getting old (I can't believe I just said that ) and there are so many other things she should, or could be doing. A duet album, or whatever this culminates to be, will not extend her legacy or her fame at all. Granted, the last thing she should want at this point is fame. But her legacy is still a good one, and with another full solo album it would be enhanced. Hardly anyone knows who Dave Stewart is. Hell, most people don't even know who The Eurythmics are until you mention Sweet Dreams. I would rather her release an album of b-sides, or a new DVD of something than do a duet album with what is essentially a no-namer.
Basically: I would rather her do something else :D

If so, I'm not sure how I'd feel about that. On one hand, I'd MUCH prefer SOLO STEVIE, but on the other hand, that Robert Plant + Alison Kraus album looked like such a daft idea on paper, yet it went on to win all those Grammies.

That's the thing, the "Everybody Loves You" snippet gives the impression that this is a duet's album, but Dave's tweets indicate it is more of a collaboration album, with him on production. Hopefully Stevie will give an interview about this soon, and shed some light on the project's contents.

I really have to wonder why Dave Stewart elicits such a visceral reaction from some people... based on ________. It is not like he has been a flamboyant showman or some kind of fodder for the tabloids all these years. Rather, he's been a musician's musician who has been content lurking in the shadows of his collaborators and tweaking knobs in the studio. He seems to genuinely love the process of making music moreso than the fame and the money. Who can't respect that? To be honest, I am not at all familiar with his non-Eurythmics career. But from what I can tell, there is a definite crispness and an unmistakable musicality about his approach. He certainly does not shrink away from risks and he seems like he can tackle anything from disco to R&B to folk with ease and aplomb; I would say that he is arguably a better producer than Lindsey in the technical and musical sense. I think he will respect Stevie's boundaries as well as try to push them in ways that no one has dared to try in the past. True, the jury is still out on whether or not he and Stevie will have musical chemistry, but based on his work in the Eurythmics, I think there's reason to be optimistic. I think Eurythmics songs like "Julia" and "Who's That Girl" and "Here Comes the Rain Again" share that torchy, haunting vibe that Stevie has brought to her songs, albeit, in a much more modern way.
In any case, regardless of whether this is a collaboration or a duet or merely a singer/producer thing, I think it's safe to say that Mama's unique musical stamp will be all over this. Remember, she's not just any chick singer- she's got that one-in-a-gazillion voice and her unique persona that will come across even if she was singing The Pirates of Penzance.

I don't think this will end up being a duet album at all. I think if you look at Dave Stuarts collaborations, he hasn't been one for a lot of duets. His work in the Eurythmics did not consist of much vocal work. Also, his collaboration with Kara DioGuardi, Platinum Weird, a few years ago is very similar to him and Stevie. He got with Kara and they were writing songs together (for a Pussycat Dolls album, but they decided these didn't fit the Pussycat Dolls so they decided to make an album of their own) and out of the two album, he got one song on lead vocals, and everything else was just backing vocals, no duets at all. I don't know if they will do this as a collaboration album, or if they will release this as a Stevie album, but I think if they release it together, it is going to be mainly Stevie on vocals. Also, Stevie has twice as many followers than Dave on twitter, and she hasn't tweeted in over a year, which goes to show Stevie is much more popular than Dave (not to mention record sales) so I think it would be somewhat ignorant to release this without Stevie being the main hook. And, another thing is that we don't know if Stevie and Dave are making the album "together". Dave is a producer and song writer with some interesting, new ideas on how to market music. Stevie may have decided she wanted to do a solo album and called him up to get some marketing ideas and that transitioned into some song writing or the other way around. I don't think Stevie just randomly decided to write songs with Dave Stewart, nor do I think she just out of the blue agreed to do a collaboration album with him. I think Stevie contacted Dave for a specific reason, be it his songwriting skills or his production or his marketing, and she wanted him to help her with her solo album. Maybe it morphed into more and they've had a lot of great chemistry and wrote some amazing songs and maybe she will slap a duet with him on there and let him do some backing vocals. But I guess we shall wait and see.

i hate to see Stevie use another artist as a crutch.
That's my whole issue with this collaboration. It's like when Stevie went to Tom Petty and asked him to write her a song. He rightfully chewed her out, and told her to go write her own damn song. Stevie has admitted herself she needed that. It made her better. I feel like Stevie has just fallen down the rabbit hole of low self worth again this past decade. She's done so very little in regards to new music... while in the earlier part of this past decade, she was shouting from the rooftops that she was in her prime. I just hate to see Stevie relegating herself to a sideshow act. Yet again, David has said "yes, doing a whole album with Stevie Nicks." He's not said once he's producing an album for Stevie Nicks. Big, big difference folks.
The thing is, just because some of us are not supportive of Stevie's decisions doesn't mean we don't have valid opinions, and it certainly doesn't make us lesser fans. We have high expectations of Stevie, and won't be thankful when she just hands us crap on a shingle. We of anyone KNOW Stevie's capable of so, so much more. It's people who are detractors of Stevie, such as Tom Petty, who snap Stevie out of it, and rightfully demand the best from a supremely talented artist. Sometimes being a 100% supportive fan doesn't equate to being the best fan, folks! :wavey:

Ok, Stevie did write the majority of her songs for TISL and Say You Will. Guess what? The problem with those albums was definitely not the production or the promotion, the problem was the MATERIAL. She needs a collaborator and someone to stay for an entire album. People keep complaining that Stevie has not put out a lot of material, but if you look back on her career, she has put out a whole lot. There is only so much one writer can do. She needs a new ear and SHE KNOWS THIS. Sheryl Crow colloborates on songs. Lots of her songs are cowritten and she wins grammy after grammy. Her last album didn't even go gold. Melissa Ethridge hasn't had a gold album since 2001 I think. There is nothing exciting there. The only reason people are mad that Stevie is working with Dave Stewart is because he is not a big name. However, Nicks definitely recognizes his talent. Her decision could be genious. Very few songs she's written in the last 20 years have impressed. She needs this.
Hejira, I agree with everything you've stated. You seem to have an understanding of Dave's approach to music and his capabilities. I truly believe this will be an inspired collaboration, much more so than Stevie could muster up with Lindsey these days.
I don't understand where this idea of a duets album originated from - perhaps Dave's harmonising on the "Everybody Loves You" snippet? - but I have never thought that this would be the case. It was obvious from the beginning that Dave was producing Stevie in some form and now we know it appears to be an album. Dave is an accomplished musician and has produced many artists, from Tom Petty to The Ramones, all with aplomb. I think he and Stevie will be a perfect fit for one another.
I am so pleased that Stevie is finally working with the one producer for an entire album - she hasn't done this since "The Other Side Of The Mirror" and that was over twenty years ago! I just hope she doesn't deviate mid-project and jump ship. I want a consistent approach to this album and I believe Dave can achieve this with Stevie.
PS I don't believe the problem with Stevie's tracks on the "Say You Will" album was down to songwriting - the blame rests squarely on Lindsey's shoulders. Some of the production was inspired ("Thrown Down", "Destiny Rules") but some was truly mystifying ("Smile At You", "Running Through The Garden"). Dave will listen to Stevie and assist her in creating whatever her vision may be - ego will not cloud proceedings. I'm interested in the fact that they have recorded some songs that have only recently been written and this should ensure that the original intention is met - something Stevie has had difficulty achieving in the past, particularly when attempting songs written many years prior to the actual recording session.

Thanks very much for posting the interview - just logged on to TheLedge to try and work out how to do it - thank you. I also asked Simon if Stevie would be coming to the UK this year solo - but that wasn't mentioned. It was just good to hear it directly from Daves own mouth!!! I think that's great - at least 6 new songs - I am pleased.:woohoo:

but i think the general opinion or idea about Dave is that he's so below Stevie that them working together is a waste of time, or it's just really confused people. But I, like others who are just as excited about this album feel that he's fostered her creativity like no one else has in the last decade, and whether it's a duets album, or a straight-up solo album, it's all exciting and definitely not the norm for Stevie.
I like the idea! And I too treat every new rarity or demo from many a moon a go as new Stevie stuff as I'm as old as the Timespace GH's
Stewart has written songs with many famous musicians, including Gwen Stefani, Jon Bon Jovi, Mick Jagger, Tom Petty, t.A.T.u., Bono, Ringo Starr, Shakespear's Sister and Katy Perry, and cites as one of his strengths his ability to coax personal stories from his co-writers... If he is good enough for them he's good enough for me
Also "Don't Come Around Here No More" is FANTASTIC and is what could of been a collaboration already.. Whats wrong with doing it years later???

I just can't believe all the conclusions that people on here are jumping to...based on...vague, 140-character tweets.
Wait until we get more info more you cast your judgments on what this project will/will not be.

Oh, I'd agree with you on Smile At You, for sure, but Running Through The Garden? I thought that was one of the standout tracks on Say You Will

I couldn't agree more with this. Lindsey is not the be-all, end-all when it comes to producing recordings, especially when it comes to other people's songs. Yes, the production work on Rumours and Tusk was daring, inspired and wonderful in every way. But other than that... eh. I like the fact that he is willing to take chances, but I find more often than not that his ideas tend to be a bit heavy-handed and not particularly musical, e.g., "Smile at You." And on recent recordings (within the past ten years), it seems as if he has kind of been stuck in a rut; he's re-using the same old studio gimmicks and arrangements, e.g., heavy reverb, vocal effects/squawk box, flanged guitar effects, etc.
I think you point out what is perhaps Dave's biggest asset on this project- his insistence on writing brand new material rather than digging through her old archives. I don't think anyone else has challenged her to do this. As such, I find it much more interesting to see what she is thinking TODAY rather than the lingering drama of a relationship that ended 35 years ago. I know... how could there possibly be a Stevie album without a ton of ancient Lindsey-related drama?

I just asked my 19 yr. old intern if she's heard of Stevie Nicks. Her response "yes". Then I said do you know any of her songs and she said "The one the Dixie Chicks did and the one from School of Rock and that's it." lol

I have to say that the criticism against Smile at You baffles me. I liked the early versions of the song, but the song meandered and seemed to have no place to go. What Lindsey did is make the song work. Stevie's voice on that song sounds terrific. The production is stellar and it fits right in with some of her best work. The song is gothic and haunting.
Apparantly, none of Stevie's failures are her fault. A good producer could turn all of her songs into a hit. That's the mentality around here and it's bull. As far as Lindsey Buckingham is concerned, he is a genious. He turned many of Stevie's small songs into masterpieces. He has looked out for her best interest. If Stevie is sooooo talented, she needs to produce her songs herself. He's definitely saved her butt more than she has his.

Agreed. It's beautiful work.

This is sooo funny. I got sick of all the mystery surrounding the album, so I decided to send an email to Perez Hilton asking him to find out the scoop. I know he likes Stevie. Anyway, he emailed back asking for Dave's twitter information. Basically, Perez did not find out anything. He just printed the information that I told him and I guess verified some of the information by going to Dave's twitter's page. I'm glad he put the stuff up on his site. It only took him like 2.5 hours to get it up there, but I wanted more information.

I've been away for a while, so I may have missed something, but this is sounding more and more like a full-blown solo album, with Dave just producing and/or acting as a band member?

That's what Dave's latest Tweet is leading me to believe, as well. Though a 2 word response is hardly what I'd consider and end-all confirmation. ;) I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high... we'll see what ends up happening. Knowing Stevie, there will be a major personnel shakeup and schedule realignment any day now...

Well, let's not put that energy out there.
To be honest, I really think Stevie is going to go through with this, in its entirety, with Dave. And unlike Dallas Austin, or other short-lived producers in her past, Stevie has a history with Dave, and they have been through a lot of similar things in their careers, so there is a safety and a bond that exists between the two of them.

Dave Stewart is a douchey twerp (just ask Annie Lennox), and until he comes out and says/types/tweets anything resembling "Stevie's recording an album", whatever he says should be taken with a grain of salt.
(unless you're one of the people who still think the album is coming out this month, then, well... god help you)
I have believed from the beginning that Dave was producing solo material for Stevie, hoping that it may eventuate into a whole album and now I'm convinced this will be the case.
I don't consider for a moment that Stevie will fall out with Dave - he is an amiable person and this is his greatest asset as a producer - he is nurturing and encouraging of artists so Stevie will undoubtedly lap this treatment up. She's worked with some bullies in her time (no names mentioned) so I imagine she will respond well to Dave's enthusiasm, not to mention his creativity as an arranger/producer and brilliant musicianship.
As vague as Dave's comments have been, I have faith in this project and if he thinks the album sounds "amazing", I'm definitely on board. I'm as excited as hell about them working together and I actually think they'll wrap proceedings up fairly quickly. However, I'm also realistic enough to know that once things have been completed, it's likely to be (at least) another six months before anything is released. It would be wonderful if a single was issued late this year prior to the full album release but then that is simply wishful thinking.
