@DaveStewart Have you and Stevie hit the studio yet this month?

DaveStewart
@APerfectLie226 yep Stevie and I are about to lay down the album in two weeks time (special people playing on it too )

I wonder who these "special people" are? Could it be the rest of our five fireflies? Doubtful, but I guess we shall hide and watch.

Wow!!! Now THAT'S an answer!! Well, if the album is finished by this month, then Dave is right, it could very well be out by this year.

I don' know whether i'm happy or pissed that Stevie is capable of laying out an album in 2 weeks time and holding out on us for 10 years. Screw it, I'm happy.

I don't understand what he means. They have been writing and recording for a couple of months, so what does lay down mean? Explain please.

Laying down tracks means just that... Laying down the tracks... Recording the vocal track, recording the guitar tracks, the drum tracks etc. All the stuff leading up to the recording or laying down tracks is writing and demoing, working it all out before you go in and lay down the tracks. If you are well rehearsed you'll spend less time in the studio. That's how I view it.

not sure how her voice will hold up, laying down all those tracks in a two week period

It'll be fine...she's never had a problem with her voice holding up during studio sessions. Plus, that's what Pro Tools is for.

Is Dave saying that the album will be layed down in two weeks? I just assumed from his comment that he and Stevie will begin laying down tracks in two weeks, as in start (again) from mid June. He had mentioned previously that six tracks had been recorded earlier this year but they may have just been demo recordings or perhaps they are simply picking up where they left off a month or so ago?

Also of interest, Dave has just announced that he will be recording and releasing a solo album this year. It surprising that he has chosen to record in Nashville - I wonder if Stevie will contribute to the album?

I disagree. Lots of vocals from her seem like she is just going through the motions.

Thanks for asking him! This sounds promising. I remember one of the "special people" was Mike Campbell. Dave tweeted about him being in the studio at one point.

Maybe because she takes so long to record them she's bored out of her mind.

Stevie has had "special people" or feature guest artists on all her solo records except "Rock A Little" unless you count "Heartbreakers" Mike Campbell as well as the usual session player for hire.

Bella Donna; Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Don Henley & some E Street Band players.
Wild Heart: Prince, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, E Street Band players, & Don Felder
OSOTM: Bruce Hornsby, Kenny G, The Fixx guitar player Jamie West-Oram,
Street Angel: David Crosby, Bob Dylan, Mike Campbell and other notable players.
TISL: Sheryl Crow, Natalie Maines, Sarah Mclauglin, Macy Gray & Mike Campbell

And so far on this new release we know by Dave's tweets we can expect Mike Campbell & rock violinist Ann-Marie Calhoun. It will be interesting if she does any unexpected collaborations or duets with a current artist. I always thought Stevie and Chris Issak would be a fresh and new duet partner for her to officially record with. All and all this is getting really exciting! sounds like it's coming together and will be finished up and very possibly be in post production by summers end. I just hope she doesn't hold it for 8 -9 months to release next spring/summer. Release it this fall/winter!!!!!

Yeah... that's not gonna happen. Post production with anything Stevie's involved with seems to take absurd amounts of time. I bet she'll still be twiddling and recording throughout the summer and probably into fall anyway, if I know Stevie well! :D

Maybe she'll do these few summer casino shows, release the album, then do an arena or smaller theater tour in the fall?

I just can't wait for this album!!! :)

The NicksLive blog made a great rundown of all of Dave's tweets since the very first one in February:

And Dave Stewart saw it and responded on Twitter:

@Nickslive "good work spot on , you won't be disappointed :)"

I'm thinking a Christmas release!!:D

 I always thought they should release an album around that time. Has Stevie or FM ever? I just think that they'd sell more because in addition to the fans, others might buy it as gifts for people who may not have bought it for themselves.

not sure on the date history for FM and Stevie releases but I would think an album strategically released before Christmas would fair better than one released at some other time of the year.

Stevie released Rock A Little in November 1985. Of course, I bought it the day it was released, but I also got 4 copies of it on cassette for X-Mas 1985 since everyone knew I was a Stevie Fan.

The reason Stevie didn't release Trouble in Shangri-la until May 2001, even though it was mixed, mastered and finished at the end of Summer 2000, was because she felt that albums released before Christmas get "lost" after the Holidays. They sell well as gifts but get forgotten after X-Mas, she said in an interview.

That's not to say she wouldn't release a Fall or Winter 2010 album ~ this all seems to be NEW for Stevie, so maybe her reasoning on release dates has changed! :)

BTW, FM w/Stevie released several albums in November:
Greatest Hits 1988
The Chain 1992
Very Best Of 2002

Wow that amkes me think very highly of her. That shes more concearned with people listening to her albums over and over then the actualy seeing the tangibly measured sales nummbers.

Maybe, even though I'm not sure her statement is actually true. Do winter albums magically come off the shelf after Christmas? Even though it does make sense to release especially greatest hits albums (as shown above) near the holidays.

not sure if this is news yet and it is from wikipedia where anyone can write anything BUT it would be cool

"In late February 2010, David A. Stewart (musician and record producer, best known for his work with Eurythmics) revealed, using his Twitter account, that he was working with Nicks on at least four new songs, including one called "Everybody Loves You".[45] [46] A 38-second snippet of the song was posted on Stewart's Twitter account. He confirmed that he and Stevie are working on an album, and said that it is being done "in a very new way". [47] On March 16, 2010, Dave reported on his Twitter that he and Stevie are now recording songs together.

It's all true and it's great news!!

Wow, that's really interesting. She definitely sat on that record for awhile.

I remember in one interview Stevie gave after 9/11 where she talked about how any music released during the summer of 2001 was lost due to the attacks, so it's sad that her plan to avoid being lost after the Christmas rush was overshadowed by a national tragedy.

Yeah, that was her 2005 interview with Jim Ladd talking about her then-upcoming Las Vegas shows. She said she had a much longer tour planned (world?), but that 9/11 pretty much killed that idea, and her "masterpiece" (TISL) was understandably eclipsed by the nation's tragedy.

Stevie couldn't have planned for 9/11, of course. She released the album when she felt was the right timing, and it certainly was a hit. But it appears she may have had more long-reaching plans for the album/tour.

Spring/early summer always seems to be a really good time to release music, and TISL was very much a "summer" album to me. Even now, it has a summer feel to it even tho I didn't buy it in the summer. However, I would love a Sept/Oct release from Stevie. Thats a very "Stevie Nicks" time of year, being fall and so close to Halloween so I would much rather her release it in Aug/Sept/Oct instead of Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb/Mar. The idea of her releasing an album in those winter months just irks me, and I would almost rather her wait until April or May if she can't get it out by Oct, but it has been so long already that I don't want to wait any longer!
