Wait what?
http://twitpic.com/159ut6
wrote a great song with Stevie Nicks on Monday called "Everybody Loves You", being filmed for TV today with Colbie Caillait playing a song we wrote called "Bullet Proof Vest"
For Stevie? For Colbie?
After extensive studying of this tweet I think he might be saying 2 different things here:
1. He wrote a song with Stevie this past monday, the song is called : "Everybody Loves You"
2. He appears together with Colbie Calliet in a tv show today where they perform a song they wrote together called "Bullet Proof Vest"
In this case: OMGOMGOMG STEVIE IS WRITING NEW STUFF!!!!

And he must have been writing with Stevie for a reason. I'm sure they weren't just swinging on the porch and throwing tunes back and forth. They must have been writing songs for either a project of his or . . . a project of hers.

Wonderful news!
This is reminding me of that cool/weird era 1995-2000, when Stevie was doing a lot of projects, both high-profile and many we didn't know about, writing like madly, coming up with some of her best material!
Like Dave Stewart's twwets SPELL OUT EXACTLY where this song will appear, when, how long it it, etc. This is fantastic news!

Just imagine those painful "long" waits we had to endure for new Stevie material between Bella Donna and Mirage and The Wild Heart!
And then, even during the "endless" wait for Rock A Little, we still got "Violet and Blue" and "Sorcerer" in 1984 as well as "I Pretend", "Cat Dancers" and "Get My Way" for fresh new Stevie material!!!
I once did a timeline detailing all official releases with NEW Stevie content, and 1974 and 2000 were the only years (since 1973) without some NEW Stevie content released to her fans. Pretty good for us fans!!!
*** Stevie performed "Silent Night" on TV in December 2000, but it wasn't released on CD until the next year. So, 2000 may count...... ;)

So, are we sure that the song wasn't written for a project of Dave Stewart's? Only because lately Stevie's been helping out other artists instead of herself. Although, i kinda doubt Dave Stewart seeked out Stevie to write a song, it has to be the other way around!
Christopher
03-01-2010, 01:08 PM
This is great news....:blob2:
I would guess Stevie probably seeked out Dave, who is also a great songwriter. Jimmy Iovine suggested to Stevie that they collaborate in 1984, but that turned and "Don't Come Around Here No More" ended up in Tom Petty's hands.
I think it is a fantastic idea for her to co-write with new writers (instead of the usual, R. Nowels, M. Campbell etc.) to reinvigorate her chops. I see this as all positive and a strong indicator that she is writing new material for either a new solo  or FM recording!!
Wouldn't it be great if Stevie (who coincidentally attended the Interscope Grammy party) is working with Jimmy Iovine again in some capacity, as in an executive producer role. Perhaps she is doing a spec record for Interscope (I believe her recording contract was completed with Reprise/Warner after the Soundstage CD release.) and is seeking out Jimmy's advice for collaborative idea's for writers and producers for a solo comeback!! This would bring her solo career full circle if Jimmy is at the helm of this.
Fingers crossed!!!!

hmm. There is an earlier post where he says he's working on a new album, so maybe its a collaboration for that? This early in the process, who knows. I'm curious to see how it plays out.

I took him posting about "working on an album" as meaning he was making a solo record.. so maybe he's collaborating w Stevie on a few songs, she's writing lyrics, melodies & will appear on it. But that doesn't really make sense, so it's most likely for another project  ..of Stevie's? Or maybe she want's help writing for an upcomming Fleetwood Mac project?
Regardless, reading about this collaboration just makes me realize how much I want Stevie & Lindsey to work on something from the ground up. That Fleetwood Mac minus Christine McVie would actually write & record as a band. Not an arranging-splicing-editing comitee that seemed to make Say You Will sound so uneven & unnatural, which is a shame because the best material on that album is perfect in my opinion & is disjointed by the fluff. And watching Destiny Rules is a little disheartening to me, seeing how they work these days. It just seemed like polotics. Not a spritited, collaborative determination to create new music, art together. And if they can still make great music in that enviornment just imagine the possibilities of a Mac project with them working together, hands on, everything, even writing together. Many of the Lindsey/Christine collaborations are genius. And his musical history w Stevie runs even deeper, surely they can find some of their original spark & rediscover the reasons they were drawn to create music together in the first place, build off that & make a strong, organic FM album :D

Stevie and Lindsey have always written separately all the way back to the beginning. Stevie has pointed this out in several interviews, so I don't expect that dynamic to change now after all these years. And I believe that the reason SYW sounded so disjointed as you point out, is because most die -hard fans had all the Gift of Screws recordings that ended up on SYW years before the release, as well as all of Stevie old demos that ended up on SYW. Stevie wrote 4 new songs to make the the recordings current and fresh alongside all that old material in the vault. "What's the world coming to" was the only contribution from Lindsey that I had not heard before SYW's release. So I'm infering a little here, but I believe that making a FM recording from the ground up, is also code for writing all new freash material, not relying on songs in the vault that didn't work for whatever reason the 1st time or 2nd time around.
So I think Stevie writing material w. Dave Stewart, who not unlike Lindsey, was the musical genius behind the Eurythmics (while Annie was the voice & sometime lyricist & songwriter) is a brilliant pairing....much better than her w/ John Shanks, Rick Nowles or even Mike Campbell. This is an exciting prospect, and though I'd rather have a new solo recording from Stevie, Having a new FM cd would be great too....esp. if Lindsey brings some of the greatness that shined on his last 2 solo cd's & Stevie brings some killer songs co-written or not to the table. But her writing w/ Dave suggests a more solo situation, since he is a brilliant producer as well, unless he is testing the waters to possibly co-produce the next FM cd.....the possibilities are endless.......but good news for new material one way or another.

Hmm. A new FM cd, with LB and SN songs, produced by Dave Stewart. Maybe.... but only if they bring in someone with a little bit more "Classic Rock" sound to temper the weirdness of LB and the flitteryflaotingfairyness of SN. Like Christine, only NOT Christine. Sheryl Crow was a good idea, even if she is annoying.

So, if I didn't like the Eurythmics, should I be scared of this new collaboration with Stevie?
Do you think she'll eventually have to throw Dave out of the studio for hanging around too much like Tom Petty did?

Here are some Dave/Stevie connections:
He co-wrote and played on Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers Don't Come Around Here No More as well as appeared in the video for the song.
John Shanks who produced Trouble in Shangri-La also produced Dave's album in 2006.

So, if I didn't like the Eurythmics, should I be scared of this new collaboration with Stevie?
In one word...NO. Dave Stewart is a great instrumentalist. Even though the 80's Eurythmics material was very synth...and 80's, Dave also incorporated an acoustic/electric guitar rock edge in some of their productions, esp towards the mid to late 80's. Check out "Thorn In My Side", or even better the last Eurythmics CD "Peace" released 1999, is gorgeous and atmospheric with some beautiful acoustic guitar arrangements throughout. Stewart has also recently co-written and collaborated with artists ranging from Bono, Gwen Stefani, Ringo Starr, Mick Jagger all the way to current pop star Katy Perry on her 1998 release.

Agreed! I want new Stevie stuff, so I mean I'd be somewhat okay if it was a Nicks/Stewart album. But I am hoping it kinda turns into what TISL was with Sheryl Crow. Her and Stevie did a lot of work together, but Stevie had songs that did not involve Sheryl and it was a standalone Stevie Nicks solo album. And I'd actually be fine if they did the whole album together just as long as it comes out as a a Stevie Nicks album with her doing vocals and him just playing guitar and doing some producing. But if it came out as a half and half album, I'd be a little let down. If I am going to be forced to sacrifice Stevie songs, it better be for a Fleetwood Mac record!

I wonder if the song will be a kind of Dont Come Around Here No More Sequel. That is the image I have in my head when I heard about the collaboration to honest. Only kidding, and I know many don't want to hear this, but any music we get from Stevie or the Mac is a gift, or " gravy " as I like to say. Whatever they decide to do is their right, and when they feel like putting it out is totally up to them as well. We are the avid fans that want everything all the time, but I speak for myself, and I am a little more laid back as far as when or how things should or will be done. It does seem that we do have many things to look forward too. So I take it lite, it only makes it that much sweater when the time comes, for me anyway.:) Otherwise I would drive myself crazy.

Good question. I did not ask as I didn't want to seem too terribly nosy (even though I am). I'm not sure though that being under contract always means putting out x number of albums. There could be other things involved i.e. distribution, merchandising, touring, etc. ?

This is not what i expected...AT ALL!! It looks like the muse hit Stevie and Dave, and they are writing (and recording) like mad. This is why some artists can do an album in a month, because everything all happens at once. It's looking to me that this is a project for Stevie only! She's hitting while the iron is still hot after her Grammy performance. Mama is going to make a comeback in a big way!

I don't want to get my hopes up... but my goodness... a combination of FM, Tom Petty, the Beatles and Eurythmics? I just can't get my head around that. This is being hyped up to be, like, the best batch of songs ever written in the history of music!

Now the tweetage is getting interesting, although it's all kind of cryptic since he is having so many different conversations at once, and it's hard to tell which tweet is relevant to Stevie:
Gawd... to be a fly on the wall up in some Spanish-style casa on the bluffs in Malibu... I just can't stands it!
What's the altitude like up there? Stevie's voice hasn't soared since 1986.

Ha ha that's great. According to the article:
"When he first met Stevie Nicks (who just split up with Joe Walsh as he found out later) in 1984, she invited him to a private party consisting of not much more than "marching powder" and three more women. The song emerged when she asked Dave the next morning to better leave her house quickly after she just had sex with him (twice according to her) which was followed by some explosive situations involving Jimmy Iovine and Tom Petty."
That's my girl! Hit it then split! We all know she was quite the player back in the day. The hottest piece of rock n' roll ass in the biz .

...It's a demo. How many of Stevie's rock songs literally began as a rock song?
But with regards to this song, I don't think she will turn it into anything heavy anyway. It strikes me as something that would fit on TISL. It has that soft, contemporary style.

Ok, I guess I'm in the minority here, but I like it. First off, I think their voices sound really good together. I never thought two deep voices would accent each other that well, but they really do in the song. Second, I like the lyrics. There is nothing weird about it and they are sad lyrics. Third, this sounds like a REAL worked out song. We only heard the chorus, but it seems like she is really trying. Lastly, I like the music. It's got some ambiance to it. Sorry, folks but I think it's actually pretty good.

It's great she's working in a studio right now, I'm really happy to see that. However, there are some combos of voices that meld together beautifully (Stevie/Chris, Stevie/Lindsey, Stevie/lots of other people ---- ) but unfortunately I don't hear Stevie/Dave's voices melding all that well. :( But hey it's an early version still....

I also think their voices blend well together. And everyone needs to keep in mind that this is the two of them sitting in her living room recording this. It is a demo...unfinished. I am sure that if we get the final product, it will be awesome. I just hate it that you come here and see all this excitement for new material being written and then all these naysayer killjoys have to chime in.
I suspect that the verses will be a lot "deeper" than what is in the chorus. And according to Dave on Twitter, they have written 4 songs now, so this is just the tip of the iceberg. Woo hoo!!

I actually don't mind the strings! I thought ever since Stevie's Practical Magic songs back in '98 that she should do a stripped down acoustic and strings album... kinda like what Sheryl Crow ended up releasing herself with Wildflower back in '05. Of course, these strings will no doubt be erased in time... this is after all a very early demo.

In my opinion "Everybody Loves You" is a great beginning, The lyrics in the chorus are great & evoke a sadness/loneliness that are universal, yet we know they apply to Stevie (makes me want to give her a BIG HUG) directly & I'm sure if she records a new CD there will be a few uptempo rock tracks, This song is not meant to rock. This sort of reminds me of "I Miss You" in a good way. Her voice sounds delectably wicked!! Stevies' voice has always been a treasure no matter what era, and is dripping with even more wisdom as it ages.......

I think people are failing to realize that it is actually a very sad song- it's not supposed to be rocking! It's low-key, but still very hummable and memorable. And it does sound very much like a Eurythmics song- the melody of the chorus is very, very similar to "The Miracle of Love," which is one of my fave Eurythmics songs evah.
For the finished production, I hope he takes out the string sound and gives it more of a "wall of sound" keyboard/guitar treatment a la Coldplay. It would be new and fresh sounding for Stevie.
So between the four Dave Stewart songs and the New Orleans song, we have half of an album already written. If she throws in a half dozen or so old demos into the mix, she's got an instant solo album- just add water!

Very true! But, despite the fact most albums only have 10-12 songs, I am really hoping Stevie pulls one off with 18 like SYW. 10-12 songs just seems sooooo few. But I know 18 is a longshot.

It just occurred to me that if this turns into a full-blown duets album, they will have to tour together, which means Stevie will probably have to cover some Eurythmics songs. I think she could kill "Sweet Dreams," especially the vamping at the end where Annie manages to sound oddly similar to Stevie. And "Missionary Man" is totally in a key that Stevie could sing.
A duets album is not entirely implausible- look what it did for the careers of Robert Plant and Alison Kraus!

Despite my "naysaying" I really am thrilled about the idea of an album. I just want it to be the sort of album that makes me sit up and listen. I have this fear that Stevie's going to end up as the poor man's Christine McVie in an attempt to get airplay instead of sticking to her roots and remembering that she was about the only woman in the world who could make songs like "Rhiannon" and "Sara" hits. She doesn't have Christine's easy pop sensibility, but what she has is intrigue and individuality. I want to hear her work that again and give us something that only Stevie Nicks could do.

I really don't like it. It's mediocre at best, and I think lots of people are just saying it sounds good because it's Stevie. From an objective point of view - Stevie's straining her voice and it's bland, middle of the road music which fits right into that adult contemporary niche that non-fans expect her music to be. The lyrics are shocking, also.

First of all I'm not one of those people who can't be objective and defends every little thing that Stevie Nicks says and does but ouch - that sure is a rush to judgment! Have you considered that it's a snippet of a non-produced, raw demo? The song could completely change if and when it materializes into an album cut. Are you familiar with any of her demo recordings? I could name a number of them who's final product sounds quite different than the demo. I respect your opinion but man, give her a chance. To be honest I'm not that crazy about the music and her voice doesn't sound the best it's ever sounded to me but I'm at least open to the idea that this could turn into something bigger.

I agree! I think the best song on SYW is Thrown Down, but I think if they had released a snippet of it back in 2002 someone would have said they exact same "Stevie's straining her voice and it's bland, middle of the road music which fits right into that adult contemporary niche that non-fans expect her music to be.
It could completely change, and I wouldn't be complaining! I've heard many of her demo recordings; some are self-indulgent messes, granted, but others are beautiful. Two I can think of off the top of my head that I adore are Lady From The Mountain and Have A Heart but what works is their minimalism and beautiful lyrics. I just really don't like this at all. I'm aware how demos work. I just really, really don't think that this is even a good foundation for a song. It's so... blah.

I agree! I think the best song on SYW is Thrown Down, but I think if they had released a snippet of it back in 2002 someone would have said they exact same "Stevie's straining her voice and it's bland, middle of the road music which fits right into that adult contemporary niche that non-fans expect her music to be. The lyrics are shocking, also." Which is def not the case.
The lyrics were what was going for the song though, they told a story. This seems to me like words to carry along a tune, which rarely is a good way to construct what should be an emotional song.

Stevie could do so much better. She's resting on her laurels with this song.
What were you expecting? I was hoping for a song that makes SENSE and goes somewhere. I don't want snippets of songs pieced together. This song seems to make sense and I like her voice with Dave's. Plus, I sorta like the music. It's touching in a better way than Love Is or songs like THAT, which are truely bland. This seems to be a REAL song.
P.S. Stevie's voice sounds better on this then Too Far For Texas or Cry Wolf.

We can only hope that even if this demo doesn't get any better, it will just end up being one of the weaker songs. I was just telling my friend that if Stevie would just break down and do some rock songs, she would no doubt be reigned the Queen of Rock. Which would help the promotion, etc. Also, I'm mixed about her voice on this, it does sound very SA, but I love the SA era so...:o
Anyway, Stevie could do an audio book and I would be on cloud 9, so I'm pleased either way

I do agree that Stevie has a tendency to "borrow" from other sources, but I also want to have to work a bit for the meaning. I don't want there to be so many different ideas strung together in one song that it doesn't make sense, but I like ambiguity, in small doses. I wasn't expecting something perfect from a demo, but I was expecting to see a bit of potential. For me personally, it's not there. I'm aware some people will like it, and great. We're not made to like the same things.

I must admit, I was expecting a rock sound after that first line... but we all know we love Stevie songs that ROCK and those tender ballads we all fall in love with, so I am just happy that she is in the studio actually writing and singing and making demos. That is a huge turn around from what she was saying several years ago.

From the short snippet, I think the song sounds great. Really like Stevie's voice on it, and Dave in the background is good, I've long thought the absence (often) of male backup vocals in her solo work isn't a good thing. Sharon&Lori are great singers, but I think a male voice, or male voices, in the background, are better to highlight Stevie's voice.
Go, Dave! Fast is better when it comes to recording! (especially now, if she spends too long in the studio, we won't get new music til she's 65!)
'Everybody Loves You' seems to be a GOOD SONG! Nicely done, Stevie! :)

I sent him a tweet asking if they'll be the new EurythNicks. Somehow (and I can't see why...), he's not responded. It was impossibly corny, but I couldn't resist. Hopefully, I didn't piss him off.
I'm really pleased with the demo - not so much the content, but that there's something physically new from her. I found it a little lacking, but it's in the early stages and I only listened to it once, so I'm hoping it'll catch on. Still, I'm excited to where this could lead.

For a demo, this recording sounds fantastic! Who knew that a week ago one twitter update from Dave Stewart would lead to us hearing something that they just recorded, and, they are working so well together that they are putting an album together, from scratch, at break-neck speed! I'm glad Stevie is finally embracing a concept that a lot of younger artists have been doing for years...go into the studio with a collaborator, lock the door and don't come out until you're done. That's why this is getting done so quickly, because they are both on a creative journey that's still rolling!
My feeling is that this is indeed for Stevie as a solo effort, but if they do go the way of Robert Plant and Allison Krauss, that would be very good too. They sold millions of albums, won multiple Grammys, and people are still loving the album!

While I certainly share your sentiments, I think it's important to remember we just have a tiny snippet of ONE demo. If all we'd gotten before TISL was a snippet of the demo for "Too Far From Texas," I'm sure we'd all be pretty pissed and frightened too. And look how great that album turned out!
Just think of it this way. You walk into a store and are looking for a shirt. But all the salesperson will show you is one button from the shirt. And you're expected to make your decision from that one button whether you like the whole shirt or not. Of course you have no idea... because you know nothing about the rest of the garment.
Just look at the history of Stevie's demos vs what they turned into in the end, too. Sisters Of The Moon was just a meandering piano ballad... and look how fierce it turned out to be! Gypsy was a total turd as a demo... and boy did it ever blossom! My point with all of this is that there's still hope, kids.

What is impressing far more than the snippet of Everybody Loves You is the amount of information that's being made available to us. Granted, Dave Stewart is at the helm but Stevie must be aware of all the communication going on. It seems our girl is finally beginning to embrace modern technology and all its wonders. I think this is a huge step for someone who once said she thought the internet was "evil" (or something to that effect). I am so thrilled she's back writing and recording but I'm even more excited that we, her fans, are being invited along for the ride this time!!:)

To clear it up, changing tense is when you switch between past, present, and future: I went, I will go, I have gone.
Changing person is when you switch between: I, he, she, they.
Stevie definitely does both, but I don't think changing person is as distracting as when she shifts tense. The worst case of her switching tense, that I can think of, is in the demo "Have No Heart". When she sings "She WAS 14 NOW", it should be either "WAS, THEN" or "IS, NOW". OK, that's my Lindsey grammatical gripe.:p
I'm liking the vibe of this snippet we've heard and what comes to mind is the demo recording of "She Loves Him Still". Someone should tweet Dave and suggest he ask Stevie about this particular song. I'm thinking that he would really dig it and perhaps record it essentially as it is - sparse and acoustic. No harm in asking... (I would but I don't have a twitter account).

I was thinking about this as I was posting in the Storms thread. I think it's really powerful when she says "we were frail" and also says "save us." It suggests that the weakness and susceptibility that defined and broke them then, resulted in damage that lives on today. In youth, you can commit one trespass that will haunt you well into middle age. Careless steps become permanent. It's only in the fullness of time that you realize what "irrevocable" means.
We were frail then; save us now. Past is present. I absolutely love it.

I'm glad of these comments because the thought of "She Loves Him Still" has been so insistent in my mind since hearing "Everybody Loves You". The original demo, from what I assume was the Rock A Little sessions, almost sounds as if it could have been recorded by Stevie and Dave. It even most likely dates back to around the time they did first work together circa 1984.
There are many unreleased Stevie songs that I would love to see the light of day, but "She Loves Hims Still" more than any seems like a perfect fit for her and Dave if he were to actually sign on for production duties. I'd love to think that Stevie would have already thought of this but it's also possible she doesn't even remember the demo. It's such a delicate song that I would imagine many producers would dismiss it but somehow, I think Dave would recognise the beauty in it and know exactly how to realise this in the studio. Some subtle guitar work and restrained strings would be ideal so as not to interfere with the fragility of Stevie's vocal.
This really needs to happen.

Based on the number of old demos that have been resurrected many years later to appear on albums, I think she is quite familiar with most of the material she has in the vault. As for She Still Loves Him, remember she teased us by including its lyrics (along with Lady From The Mountain and Watch Chain) in the Enchanted booklet.

I think it's quite unfair to be so critical of a song when all we have is a 39 second snippet of a home recorded demo featuring three lines of a work in progress.
For the tiny little bit of the song that we have heard, I think:
She sounds great
It's wonderful to hear her singing with someone different (and their voices do blend so well together)
The lyrics are quite tragic and very telling about the price of fame for her...the fact that as famous as she is (i.e everybody loves her/knows her name) she does seem very lonely and terribly dependent on the people who take care of her every need (i.e. she can't find her way home), and all of these people who "love" her (fans/caretakers/staff), none of them really know her. The song reminds me a little of Doing The Best That I Can in the sense that it is a very open and direct admission that there is "trouble in shangri-la."
So I can not wait to hear the rest of the song because from what we've heard so far I think it is going to be a refreshingly new sound for her as well as a heartbreakingly honest and revealing piece of poetry.
And if it was in fact inspired by Lindsey's "everybody loves Stevie" comment, it will be one more example how she can take a simple statement and craft it into a deep and personal song that so many others can relate to.
So let's cut her some slack and not tear apart this tiny snippet of a demo.

Explain to me how it could be that those who have expressed dislike or apathy to the song are being "unfair" because they have heard only 39 seconds of it, yet your opinion that it is good is valid. That's more than a tad hypocritical. You've heard the same 39 seconds the rest of us have.

I knew as I was writing my post that I was setting myself up for this question. Again, based on the short snippet we've heard, I am encouraged by the quality of her vocal, the harmonizing with DS and the sentiment of the lyric. The three lines we've heard are simply a small indication of what the song as a whole may be like. I am well aware that she still needs to deliver the goods in the form of a finished product. Keep in mind, I didn't say the song is a masterpiece. What I said was I am looking forward to hearing the rest of the song because from what I've heard, I think there is a lot of potential.
For those who said they don't like the instrumentation or DS's vocals or anything specific to the demo, I totally respect that and certainly didn't mean to imply that I had an issue with these critiques. But when you used the words "bland, uninspired, unimpressed and forgettable," I got the impression that you have already dismissed the song as a throwaway. What I was trying to say in my post was I think it is premature to completely write off the song based on the little bit that we've heard.
All I am saying is give ELY a chance. :)

Though I didn't really like what I heard with this demo, you do bring up a good point. I remember hearing a snippet of "Say You Will" before the album of the same name was released, and thought it was a turd to be flushed too. But the song in it's entirety was a bubbly, cute little song. I totally did a 180 with that. Who's to say us naysayers won't like the full version of "Everybody Loves You?" It's definitely important to remember we're hearing a DEMO, too. Most of Stevie's demos are bland, quiet, slow, wandering, and unexciting. But they absolutely blossom with production (some, not all). We'll just have to see. I for one am glad she's messing with new material, period. If she ends up making an album that's not as good as or better than TISL, I might reverse that position though!

Guess what? You are not alone. I'm encouraged by it too. I think it sounds pretty good. The people who don't like probably want weirder stuff. To me, this is pretty straightforward HONEST stuff. Plus, I like the vocal and the backing music.

There are many unreleased Stevie songs that I would love to see the light of day, but "She Loves Hims Still" more than any seems like a perfect fit for her and Dave if he were to actually sign on for production duties.
Well don't quote me on this but I believe "She Loves Him Still" is Stevie adding lyrics and singing to a Mark Knopfler instrumental track. The (unconfirmed) story goes that Knopfler refused to let Stevie use it in any shape or form so I wouldn't expect a release anytime soon. A shame, that.
Sounds like a donated track for the CD of the Organization for Sufferers of Post-Nasal Drip, due out next year.

Some loser.
Stevie is the author of "She Still Loves Him", lyrics and music. The copyright says so. If the music has Knopfler playing and refuses to allow release, Stevie could always re-record without him. Or edit him off. If he's even on it.
I've never heard "the story" about this being MK's track. Again, Stevie Nicks wrote the music & lyrics. She even quotes herself in Enchanted.

Everybody: Dave Stewart shares first bit of song recorded with Stevie Nicks
As reported Stevie Nicks and Dave Stewart are working together on songs for a possible new album (with the help of violinist Ann Marie Calhoun and others) and they are very happy about how it all goes onwards (as Dave told his fans on Twitter). Today Dave shared a first snippet from a song written and performed with Stevie Nicks. Listen now to 38 seconds of a demo of “Everybody” by Dave Stewart and Stevie Nicks:

Dave Stewart writing with Stevie Nicks / Songbook TV Special with Colbie Caillat
What is Dave Stewart up to? Working on a new Eurythmics record? No! Silly question! Working on a new solo album? Yes!!! But according to his recent Twitter posts “veeeerrrry slllloooowlly”. Anything else?
He “wrote a great song with Stevie Nicks on Monday called “Everybody Loves You”" – it might end up on a new Stevie Nicks solo album, Stewart definitely sees that possibility. Anything else?
Dave Stewart is filming a TV special for the UK channel Sky Arts – a one hour (!) acoustic (!!) performance show focussing on his greatest hits and collaborations and the stories behind them.
He shared a photo of the “Songbook” show recording “with Colbie Caillait [website] who sang our song “Bullet Proof Vest”" with him and one with Judith Hill and Ann Marie Calhoun (Judith is amazing singer see her sing duet with Michael Jackson in “This Is It” [video]) performing.

I don't think writing a batch of song with DS is necessarily being done at the exclusion of an FM project. I think Stevie is just doing what she has always done- writing poems, recording demos and stockpiling them for future projects. Some of 'em may end up on a solo album, some of 'em may end up on a FM album. And given the fact that Mick is on tour down under, it's not like Stevie is just going to wait patiently by the telephone (a corded princess phone, no doubt) waiting for it to ring. If the Twitterverse is to be believed, Mama has been busy cooking up a big batch of treats recently.

Well as noted on the Rumours board, Mick was just quoted in an interview saying, knowing this bunch (FM), I think we will take the next 18 months off.
So knowing Stevie, she won't be sitting around doing nothing the next year and a half. It's looking likely that these newly written 4 songs with Dave Stewart are the beginning of Stevie laying down some demos/tracks for a solo project!!!:] I couldn't be more thrilled!!!
I am also happy she is collaborating (esp. with someone new, even though they some history). It's well known that Stevie has suffered from writers block before, which is why Sandy Stewart was brought in on The Wild Heart, The numerous contributors on RAL, & Rupert Hine, Mike Campell, Rick Nowles, etc. on TOSOTM (on which she only had 2 self-penned tracks.) Stevie needs to be re-energized and find a new spark, I suspect that she been looking to Jimmy Iovine & other colleagues for direction (Tom Petty & Heartbreakers enthusiastically just wrapped recordings for a new CD set for release this summer.) Stevie still remains good friends w/ Iovine, and was spotted at the after grammy Interscope party. Jimmy has been wise with his projects at Interscope, pushing artists as diverse as Gwen Sefani, Mary J Blige, Eminem and many others, to lock themselves in a room/studio with great collaborators, songwriters & producers to get the goods.
I am optimistic that Stevie can and will put out a recording that equals or is even better than TISL, but in a totally different way. And I don't mind if it doesn't have a bunch of rockers (as some have expressed their disappointment that "Everybody Loves You" was not rocking a little at all.), the likely hood of her having a huge commercial success is stacked against her, besides the fact that she does not have anything to prove anymore. At this stage in her career & current voice, I feel she has evolved vocally to become the ultimate torch singer...her voice has become a cross between Nina Simone and latter day Marianne Faithful, And I say let her embrace that side. The Soundstage rendition of "Beauty & the Beast" was minimal and beautiful, "Call On Me For Magic" was a side of Stevie we need to see more of.
Stevie just needs to concentrate on putting out a solo project that is worthy of her legend, and forget about trying to please the commercial equivalents of the moment as she did on TISL by tapping Sheryl, Natalie, Macy, Sarah...you get the picture. She needs to produce a solid project that will earn her critical success unparralled. Most fans are behind her & hungry for new material! Stevie is no longer the Rhiannon of years ago, She is older, wiser....and I feel she needs to record something that reflects where she is now. not yesterday.

A few comments:
First of all, I am thrilled that there is something, anything new in the works. It is just refreshing to hear her voice, and speaking of her voice... it sounds really good, but way different than even the Soundstage recordings two years ago. It reminded me of the late 80s, OSOTM Stevie, which is one of my favorite eras, so that is fine by me.
I liked their voices together, and I liked the demo! Didn't love it, but I think it is still haunting and beautiful and sad.
The best part about all of this, is that since Stevie is working with Dave, there is someone else to hold her accountable. Someone else is forcing her to put pen to paper and actually get **** done. I think it is way to easy for Stevie to not do anything concrete or anything that will ever see the light of day. She needs someone to push her. Last time it was a dinner with Tom Petty. This time, it looks like she needs more hand holding, but that is fine.
I can actually see something happening here. It is not just a random comment that we are all getting excited about. We actually have a demo and confirmation that they ARE working on an album, not that they WILL work on an album.
Yayyy!!!!
PS: Regarding Too Far From Texas, I love that song. Cheesy country song, yes. But sometimes, that is just what I need to listen to at full blast driving around town while belting out the lyrics! Love me some TFFT!!!!

It's like raindrops after a long drought to finally hear her do something creative again .I agree with those who think her voice sounds OSOTM era. Also Dave Stewart likely has some similarities to OSOTM producer Rupert Hine in that they both peaked with synth driven Euro-pop production in the 1980s .IMO this song has a vaguely Beatlesque or John Lennon feel to it.It will be great to finally have something to look forward to again if this pans out.It has been too long.

I really do hope this morphs into a solo project... but I have my doubts. My intuition is telling me she's just busy recording and stockpiling demos for the future. I know she's always brimming with creativity when she comes off the road from touring with the Mac. She probably just wants to capture that quickly. Like I said, I truly hope this equates to another solo album... SOON! But my inner realist is prodding me telling me not to get too excited.

I agree and have my doubts as well. However, since 40 seconds of the song has been offically "leaked", I'm thinking that maybe it was leaked for a reason: to build interest and excitment over an upcoming release. It seems, to me, like a somewhat calculated marketing tactic. I'm hoping!!!

I thought about that as well, and it makes perfect sense. After all, I'm sure Stevie would be rather pissed if the snippet was leaked without her permission (given her past regarding her demos being stolen and sold)... and would probably end here recording relationship with Dave.
WOW! From getting a little snippit of a demo the assumption blows up to:
A duet album!
A tour!
And Stevie singing Eurythmic songs!
