The plot thickens.., suspense is building!

Seems like the recording & collaborating must be going well. Dave's been recording and writing with Stevie for almost a month now!!

His 1st tweet about Stevie http://twitpic.com/159ut6 - wrote a great song with Stevie Nicks on Monday called "Everybody Loves You" 8:49 AM Feb 25th. confirmed they have been writing together at least since Monday,Feb 22nd. Dave also tweeted that they were working on 4 songs March 4th & again on March 5th, AND now they were recording all day yesterday! http://twitpic.com/18ykbs - recorded all day yesterday with Stevie Nicks and never once took off my favorite Alexander McQueen Hat! Everyone check out these 2 pics, this must be Stevie's rock n' roll penthouse!! Both pics show what looks like Stevie's white Bosendorfer piano, and the room is all aglow in white with huge windows...very cool!!! When Dave Stewart said "yeah we are making "album" in a very new way", perhaps he's alluding that Stevie decided to record the "album" in her penthouse studio, which is very possible with all the technology out now, esp. Mac's Logic Studio software, and much cheaper then logging studio time.

This is becoming very interesting. Just when we were all but giving up hope that Stevie would want to record again. I'm going to remain optimistic that this is going to come to fruition as a solo project. So excited...It's been too long.

Stevie likes to record quickly, she does not like to labor in the studio for months on end.
As I was looking back at an old TISL interview (Mix 96.9 in Phoenix - Interview May 2001) posted on NicksFix, Stevie mentioned that the actual recording of TISL was only about 4 months of logged studio time between January through December 2000. And TISL took so long because Stevie began recording w/ Sheryl Crow as producer in late 1998, recording Sorcerer & Candlebright over 4 days, and when Sheryl had to drop out of the project to promote her just released CD "The Globe Sessions", that left Stevie in a tailspin for all of 1999. She worked w/ a couple other people during this time (one of which we know was Dallas Austin) but it didn't work out.

So alas, my long drawn out point is if Stevie and Dave are getting along and liking what they are producing, and it does seems like they are really on a roll, we may see a new solo cd completed very quicky. All that would be left to decide is when "they" want to release it. Will they decide to release it in the fall/holiday time period. Or more likely, Stevie seems to like to release most of her records in the spring/summer time to coincide with a summer shed tour. So realistic expectations/calculations would put it's release in the spring/summer 2011, exactly 10yrs since TISL!!!

Thanks for sharing that picture! Dave Stewart hasn't changed a bit since the '80s! You just have to wonder (or, at least *I* do) if he and Stevie are boinking. Yes, I know he's married... but when has that ever stopped any red blooded male?? :p

I never put it together that the white piano we've seen Stevie in pictures with was her Bosendorfer! I can't say I've ever seen a white one! I was in an antiques shop just the other day where they had a Bosendorfer baby grand (not in the best of condition, either) for $25,000. If only I had the pocket change!

YES, And the married part has never stopped Stevie either LOL! ;) So Yea, this totally entered my mind, but I refrained until now to speculate on it. It's not outside the realm of possibilities, I mean they did hook up in 1984 (marching powder galore). But I also considered the PLUS sides to it. Not only was I pleased to hear that Stevie was working specifically w/ Dave Stewart, I also loved the fact that she was working with a male collaborator. Because I believe Stevie thrives creatively when there is sexual tension/drama (no disrespect intended).

This has proved to play out again and again throughout her career. In FM there was Lindsey, Mick, & Don H. for starters. With Bella Donna you had the Jimmy Iovine love affair drama, On RAL the Joe Walsh dysfunction, OSOTM had the Rupert Hine mystery (who was also married). Look at the time when there was no creative trysts.....She hated Glyn Johns, and hence we got Street Angel, (which I enjoy) but Stevie hated , and it arguably does lack the passion of her previous releases.

I thought about that as well, and it makes perfect sense. After all, I'm sure Stevie would be rather pissed if the snippet was leaked without her permission (given her past regarding her demos being stolen and sold)... and would probably end here recording relationship with Dave. I'm just trying to stay realistically hopeful here regarding another album. :woohoo:

I thought she had changed her tune re: leaked demos. I know she was pissed off at first (where was it I saw a handwritten note from her that said "I am very, very upset that someone has come into my life and STOLEN my songs~"?), and was not too happy about being asked about Goldfish and the Ladybug on Storytellers (can't blame her - I mean, that song. Srsly?). But then she said something like, "It's okay, I know you guys have them, I'm not mad!" at one of the Enchanted shows.

Maybe she wouldn't mind too much.

She's simply mad at the person who stole her demos... not mad at the people who listen to them after the fact. That's my point about Dave Stewart... if he leaked this without her ok, she'd be PISSED at him... but not us for listening to it.

I believe Rooms on Fire is about her and Rupert, isn't it?

I also heard that that there was a debacle near the end of making TOSOTM album, when someone brought cocaine into the studio.

Here's Stevie, Rupert and Rick Nowles in '89. Note the bag of dope on the table.

But then she said something happened that made it impossible for them to ever, ever be together, which was really Jane Eyre kind of mysterious and dramatic.

I think Rupert had a crazy wife in the attic and Stevie found out during a fire, hence Rooms on Fire.

Well, we know she's highly against that. But if she tells people she's not mad at them for hearing her stolen demos, I have to believe it. It's not like a majority of them were ever recorded and commercially released... so she didn't really lose anything by them being out there in the world. I'm sure she'd prefer her songs to be heard in a finished fashion... but since this past decade she has released demos and early takes on CD remasters and such, I doubt it's that big of a deal to her anymore. I'd have to think she realizes her fans having access to those demos just heightens her allure.

Love seeing the bag of pot on table! I don't know much about Rupert. I wonder what the reason was for Stevie saying she can never see him again. Could it be drugs? Cocaine perhaps? At this point in time Stevie had just kicked her cocaine habit. Maybe Rupert (and his habits?) were too much of a "great tempation." Just a speculation.

Ah... the picture is starting to come together...

Take a look at the "splash" page at Glen's site. Does that room look familiar?

http://www.glenballard.com/

From the looks of things (in the gallery), he and Dave Stewart are, like, BFF's, so it's no coincidence that he is hanging out at Glen's house. So what could the three of them be up to? Could it be that Glen asked them to come over his house to write songs for some other artists that he is currently producing? Could they be working on a Stevie project? Could they be forming a supergroup? Who else is working at Glen's house?

Since Glen is unquestionably a big time hitmaker, whatever they are working on has to be BIG.

I sincerely hope Glen Ballard is not involved in the Dave/Stevie studio sessions. He is a monstrous producer - just about ****s up everything he has a hand in (look no further than Annie Lennox's last studio album, "Songs Of Mass Destruction", for evidence). His production work is dense and overly-busy, often resulting in a tedious, exhausting listen.

If I remember correctly, Dave and Glen co-own a recording studio so perhaps this is why Glen is present? Let's hope he's done nothing more than make Stevie a coffee and stroke her ego.

That may be true, but you cannot deny that anything he touches turns to gold, literally. His name alone can sell an album, and if Stevie is looking for some radio friendly and commercial material to add on to this album, then he is the one to use.

I'm listening to some tracks from Songs Of Mass Destruction at the moment, and honestly, I think this production style would work perfectly for Stevie. In fact, it doesn't sound anywhere as "dense" to me as Trouble In Shangri La. All of Stevie's solo albums are busy and overproduced. Most notably Rock a Little, Other Side Of The Mirror, and Trouble In Shangri La. Personally, I like the idea of Stevie working with people other than the usual suspects. :D

Phil
03-19-2010, 09:48 PM
Louie, I do concede your point to a degree. Some of the tracks on Songs Of Mass Destruction - "Dark Road", "Smithereens" and "Big Sky" - are goregous and feature sparse, inventive arrangements but this has more to do with Annie and less with Glen Ballard (refer to Annie's previous album Bare as confirmation). I honestly believe he stamped the life out of most tracks on the album and ensured a sense of melody was almost eradicated throughout. Glen's production style is about as subtle as dropping a grand piano on a mouse.

Whilst I am fond of Trouble In Shangri-La as an album, I do concede that some of the production is a little on the dense side and I want this dispensed with next time around. I welcome Dave Stewart's lush style (synths, strings etc) but he intuitively knows when to pull back and ultimately, prefers a simple approach. Let's hope Annie wanders into proceedings at some stage. :)

This is so exciting with all the real time social networking tweets and updates like mentioned before. Stevie may not connect like this but is so refreshing to see other artists do this to create buzz. Plus, you can't really stop anyone from saying they worked with Stevie unless she has legal gag orders, but why would you want to do that? So, these little updates are so refreshing since we never seem to get updates like this via her official web site. Plus it is fantastic that other people still are blown away by Stevie's talent. Yay!

This really does seem to have a more solo Stevie vibe to it with the people she is working with. I am just so happy Stevie is working and being creative again and working with people that embrace social media and the new recording technologies that are out there.

I am so excited to see what comes out of all of this.

Yeah, I've said that for the past couple of years too. Which is why her working on an apparent solo album is a bit surprising for me. Seems she was supremely happy with TISL... but very discontent with SYW. If I were in her shoes I'd probably try to do one last Mac album and leave that career on a high note. But perhaps she's given up on that happening, given all of the modern day politics when it comes to Fleetwood Mac. Who knows though, she could just be recording demos right now in preparation for a Mac project. She may not be working on a solo project at all. Either way, as long as we get some sort of new material from Ms Nicks, I'll be supremely happy!

This is so exciting but its still a bit foggy to me. Could someone ask him to clarify what exactly the end goal is for these songs. Is it a Stevie Nicks album, with Dave Stewart as the main producer. Is it some sort of combo album.

Yeah, that would be great if he'd tell us. I get the feeling he wants to keep it a little mysterious though. Likes our interest whetted, but not satisfied.

I'm speculating a bit here, as we all are, But the fact that Dave just tweeted yesterday that he & Stevie have "recorded" 4 songs, leaves me to believe that these are more than demo's. And since Mick has announced recently that FM is taking @ 18 months off, It makes reasonable sense that these newly recorded songs are for a Stevie Nicks solo project:). Dave is probably being elusive regarding direct answers, because things can always change or be scrapped, or perhaps these two are just co-writing and he is arranging, but the sessions are being produced by someone else like Glen Ballard (The white room Stevie & Dave have been working in looks to be his studio! check out his website http://www.glenballard.com/).

Dave leaked a snippet of "Everybody Loves You" on March 5th, they had been working together at least since Feb. 23rd (when they wrote ELY) plus another 4 more songs before the leak. So gathering from the amount of time that they have spent since the leak, they probably have polished off and recorded 4 songs w a rough mix.

Stevie likes to work quickly, she doesn't like to labor away in the studio for months on end, which makes her & Dave perfect partners. Stevie probably has a backlog of new material she has written esp. during the 2009 tour that she wants to get out, and obviously it isn't going to be with Fleetwood Mac.

Remember when Mick said in an interview last December as the tour was winding down, that they were going to have a group meeting in January to decide what was next for FM as far as new recording's & touring (also note the Eagles double bill tour fell through). Well, based on Mick's assertion recently that they are taking a break for 18 months if not longer, things did not turn out well for FM in that january meeting, probably esp. between Stevie & Lindsey.

I thought the whole point of FM touring before doing an alleged album was to get the creative juices flowing and "get to know each other again" so going into studio would be an easier and more natural affair. So, I would think that if they were indeed going to make an album, they would have started it right after the tour, when their creativity and inner band relationships were at their strongest. If they wait a year or more, that defeats the whole purpose of the tour-before-the-album mentality.

I've been think a lot lately about Stevie's signing at Barnes and Noble and how that event may have played a role in herrecent writing and recording. I wasn't there, but judging from the pics, she seemed really, really happy to be there. I think maybe that signing and the other promo events for Soundstage may have made her realize the power of her solo fan base and how much we want her to do another solo album. I could be totally wrong here, but I just get the feeling that being "one on one" with her fans for those few hours at B&N may have given her a much needed kick to get back in the studio.

I think Stevie is a workaholic, and when the boys in the band want to take a break, it's a signal for her to make a solo record. She's a driving and very prolific when it comes to working. If you think about all the tours and records, her life is music.

She definitely toured her ass off this decade, I give her that. She's had very little idle time it seems. I'm sure there aren't a whole lot of 60 something women out there in any profession who put as much of their life into their work as Stevie does. But she has always made it a point to drive home what a prolific songwriter and recording artist she is... and this decade she's fallen way, way short of anything close to that definition.

There is no doubt in my mind that Stevie is indeed recording in their studio. I mean, Dave provided us with the evidence here, http://twitpic.com/18ykbs, and of course we have other proof (from the Twitterverse) that Stevie was with both Glen and Dave together.

There is also news that Carissa Couch will be doing a photoshoot with Stevie in Marina del Ray, CA on April 11th, which might be an album cover photoshoot, and if that's the case, that means she could be almost done with an album by the end of next month, so hopefully Dave keeps teasing us with his Twitter updates!

That's what I was saying... by working with Dave and his crew, she was working outside of her normal circles. Mike is in her inner circle of musician friends... thus my lamenting it. But deciding after all it's not a bad thing, because he'll bring some much needed rock into the equation!! :blob1:

IMO, I believe someone else is more deserving of that title. This is EXACTLY how I feel about Rick Nowels. He should stick with Madonna and the other superficial dance-music bimbos.

But I love Mike Campbell's songs with Stevie. I love all the songs you mention, except Fire Burning. About "Whole Lotta Trouble", Stevie wrote the riff. All Mike did was to force her not to rewrite the riff and use the original one she came up with, and he wrote the music for the bridge. The rest was Stevie. This was not a song like the others where she wrote the words and melody over one of his instrumental tracks.

I adore Desert Angel and upon hearing Timespace for the first time, welcomed it as a major respite in view of the other new songs on that collection. Sometimes It's A Bitch and Love's A Hard Game To Play were truly terrible, asserting her as some washed-up rock chick but Desert Angel paid homage to the Stevie of old, yet sounded contemporary as well. I also like that the lyric is not overly literal as opposed to say a dog of a song like Jane.
As for the other Mike Campbell collaborations, I like them all except for Whole Lotta Trouble. I'm keen for Stevie to work with any of the Heartbreakers in any capacity.
Also, did I miss something or did Dave's tweet actually state that Stevie and Mike were writing together? I assumed he was just laying down a guitar part during the recording process. They were in the studio weren't they?

Same here... I think it's beautiful musically, and I love the whole message of the song too. Closest Stevie's ever gotten to being political musically... and she did it in a very classy, very Stevie way. It's all fantastic imagery in my opinion... probably the last song she wrote using that kind of imagery and allusion until Illume 10 years later. I love how in both songs she's sort of sending her opinion of beauty and reassurance to those who have been victims of hate. I don't see what's to dislike about either of these songs... they make you think, they're beautiful, and have a transportive quality. All of this is why I started listening to Stevie in the first place!

There's no denying that "Desert Angel" came from a very earnest and sincere place; Mama loves her boys (and girls) in uniform. But good intentions do not necessarily make good songs. Take "Jane," for example. It's a loving ode to a strong, courageous woman... but it's sooo bad. Maybe it's the very pedestrian/perfunctory music. Or maybe it's the cringe-worthy lyrics like "...the forgotten chimpanzee." Well, in my opinion, "Desert Angel" is chock-full of forgotten chimpanzees! "In a place the Indians call... Paradise Valley!" wins the HejiraNYC Hall of Cheese Lifetime Achievement Award. And, yes, I will admit that "Operation Desert Shield" always reminded me of a feminine hygiene product!

A seven-minute trainwreck like "Desert Angel" makes me sad. It's not only because it's about the pain of war. To me it sounds like someone trying to struggle through creative bankruptcy- writers block, if you will. What I loved about Stevie's great songs is that she was able to convey such deeply emotional stories in a decidedly succinct but powerful way; every word, every phrase had a purpose. Less was more. She also wove elaborate conceits around deceptively simple imagery, using little impressionistic snippets of a dialogue she conducts in her head. The result is that the lyrics were somewhat vague but also very accessible in an emotional way. It's kind of magical, actually. Unfortunately, "Desert Angel" has none of that magic for me. The lyrics are just very literal, very straightforward... and it seems almost as if she was trying to just stuff the song full of flowery filler that doesn't mean anything. There's no mystery there either. And to make matters worse, Mike Campbell contributes a cluttered, dense soundtrack full of all kinds of synthetic pinging and clanging sounds- perhaps an attempt to distract the listener from the maudlin lyrics. Where the lyrics at least attempt to be heavy and urgent, the music sounds like the soundbed of a McDonalds commercial. I'm not sure if the horrible music is necessarily a reflection of Mike's technical musical skills as much as it is a reflection of just having very bad taste. There is a reason why it's TOM PETTY and the Heartbreakers- 'cause Mike needs someone with the talent and the musical ear of Tom Petty in order to be any good at all.

Fair enough! Like Lindsey once said of Stevie: she used to write from the inside out. She's been far, far more literal the past 30 years than she was in the '70s. There's nowhere near as much room for personal interpretation with her MTV era -> present recordings as with her early Mac material. My whole long-winded meandering rebuttal to this is you almost bring up a moot point IMO... aren't all the songs she's recorded in at least the past 20 years of a more pedestrian nature than the Stevie we all fell in love with? Or do you still see flecks of gold in the matrix? Personally, when I hear the banal words to this new snippet from Dave Stewart, it's a bit disheartening.

Everyones always gotta hate on Jane! I am bound and determined to find one other person on here who likes Jane! I can't be the only one! I agree that songs like Jane and Desert Angel are more literal and straight forward than others, but I think it is nice to have a literal straight forward song sometimes. It is nice to have a deep symbolic emotional connection with a song that is somewhat vague and Stevie gives us that a lot, but being an artist and the poet that she is, she also has a right to make a clear political or personal statement at times. As for Mike Campbell's talent, I really don't know. I will agree that some of his songs with her aren't my favorite. And then there are songs they worked on that I love, like Blue Denim, Imperial Hotel, Desert Angel, Whole Lotta Trouble, and Greta. He also co-wrote Don Henley's Boys of Summer and Heart of the Matter, which I think are two really amazing songs. So I guess this is just one we will have to hide and watch.

I detest Jane, I'm even embarrassed to listen to that one alone! I truly think that's the only of Stevie songs where I feel that way. Mac wise, I'm A Roadrunner and the Derelict from Penguin have that same effect. ;)

That being said, I'll give anything kudos where I feel it's due. I truly do like the first 24 seconds of Jane! It's downright sensuous sounding for those first 24 seconds. Then it just descends into a Hot (Adult Contemporary) monkey-lovin' mess .

Haha--"jane" is a funny one. Sara can't even stand to listen to it and she said nobody else listened to it after it was done either, haha. Although....to be funny sometimes, I put that junk on blast in my car and force Sara to listen to it, lol.

Well--it's not that it's that bad of a song, actually. It's just...trying to take it seriously is hard for me, ha. Yes, it is sad that monkeys and stuff are used for testing and held captive, but....STEVIE singing a song about it??? Our lil poet? It's hard stuff....

dubious gems like "Fire Burning,"

She should just scrap this whole project and put out a greatest hits LP. Its almost been three years since we got a new version of Landslide!!! QUOTE]

[QUOTE=seekerj;880716] This is EXACTLY how I feel about Rick Nowels. He should stick with Madonna and the other superficial dance-music bimbos.

I love all the songs you mention, except Fire Burning.

Fire Burning is undoubtedly playing in my version of Hell right now!

Phew!! I've never done so much multi-quoting before!

Awwwww, people really dislike Fire Burning! I really think I'm the only one who likes it. It's simple but fun but yes, I can understand how it can grate on you all!

3 years since a new version of Landslide - hahahaha!! If I hear one more new verswion of that song I'll get angry, and you wouldn't like me when I'm angry...

I love Rick Nowels!! Then again, I'm a big Belinda Carlisle fan so that explains that one! Belinda rules, she ain't no dance music bimbo!

Jane is truly appalling. It's one of the reasons why Stevie's Behind The Music isn't that great. The one song they keep playing over and over again is Jane!! Why??

I also am fond of Fire Burning - it's a great little, rollicking ditty. A melodic, spirited song, the likes of which we desperately need with the dearth of original compositions from our little girl. Where is our feisty little princess?

I'm fine with Rick Nowels and hope he continues to write with Stevie. Belinda Carlisle is a goddess and her work with Rick, particularly the Live Your Life album, is fantastic pop. Rick's sense of melody can not be disputed and Stevie's often dark, introspective lyrics are a nice counter balance to his pop sensibilities. Keep 'em coming I say.

For one thing, she hasn't released all that much material over the past 20 years- two FM albums, two solo albums and a handful of tracks here and there. And we probably should discount anything she released during the Klonopin Era (1990-1994) since she was not in her right mind at all. So that really leaves us with one Stevie album (TISL), one Fleetwood Mac album (SYW) and a few other tracks. I think songs like "Trouble in Shangri-la," "Bombay Sapphires," "Love Is," and "Planets of the Universe" (the new verses) are classic Stevie lyric-wise- somewhat mysterious, somewhat allegorical, deeply heartfelt and impressionistic. And on SYW, even seemingly straightforward songs like "Thrown Down," "Everybody Finds Out" and "Destiny Rules" have a mysterious quality about them. Who are these songs about? The lyrics hint at secret trysts, unspoken words, moments of regret about specific events and the inevitability of fate, but the true meanings of the songs are never quite revealed. And there are some truly brilliant lines here and there, e.g., "When love starts out in the darkness, it doesn't do well in the light," "It's not being together, it's just following the rules," etc. Compare the TISL and SYW lyrics to "Desert Angel." "This is the first thing that I've written since I wrote about 'freedom,'" in which she boldly namechecks another craptacular ditty co-written with Mike Campbell. And how cringe-inducing is "I was born in the desert... so I know how it feels there." Just inexplicably bad, bad, bad... In hindsight I realize she was under the influence when she wrote this, so I'll cut her some slack. But at the time of it's release, I was seriously wondering WTF???

You've mentioned this before so I want to comment. The 1991 war was callled Desert Storm. It was the first time American troops fought a war exclusively in a desert.
I was living in Phoenix when this was a new song, in 1991. I know how it feels there. I'm sure, knowing that you are a world traveler, you have been in a desert at some point. But to actually live in one, for many years, a realateable experience could be felt with the soldiers who are fighting a war in such extreme heat.

Living in the Phoenix area feels like a whole different planet than living in a place with four seasons. In NYC where you reside, if the tempertaure was 104 degrees you might be visiting the hospital from dehydration and extreme humidity. In Phoenix such a tempertaure is no big deal. It may feel like 80 degrees would to you. 115 degrees in Phoenix is hotter than hell, but a normal July day.
115 degrees in NYC and the entire populace would most likely die from the humidity. If not die, multitudes would be extremely close to it.

Also in another thread you or someone mentioned the lyric, "in a place the Indians call Paradise valley."
If you are lucky enough to ever visit the section of this town that Stevie lived in you will learn that Camelback Mountain holds a special grotto where some Tribal Indians from the past had a spiritual place there to pray to their God(s). It was a sacred mountain. And this mountain when viewed from above is shaped like a Camel.
There are many references in this song that perhaps only a Phoenician might truly understand, though I think she does a fine job in describing these, and their similarities to Operation Desert Storm.

Hi Dodfather, yes I do have Real, along with everything else Belinda has released (solo and with the Go-Go's). Real has some fabulous tracks on it (Big Scary Animal, Tell Me, Here Comes My Baby) but I do prefer the Runaway Horses, Live Your Life and A Woman And A Man albums. Her version of Bonnie & Clyde from the Voila album is brilliant - check it out if you haven't heard it. I always thought Stevie should have recorded Valentine but that could be due to Belinda's obvious impersonation of her on the track. Did you realise she thanks Stevie in the credits of at least one of her albums? I think it's Heaven On Earth.

Hey Phil - I tried to pm you with this but it didn't give ne the option to?

I'm listening to Real right now. I have Runaway Horses (vinyl), The Very Best of Belinda (a European hits collection that spans Heaven On Earth - Live Your Life Be Free and was a HUGE hit), A Woman And A Man and Real.

I had her early studio albums on cassette but went through that stupid 15-16yo phase where I didn;t think it was "cool" to listen to her and so got rid of them. Since then it's just been the Best Of and the stuff that came after that. I'm replacing the early stuff on vinyl, and I'll get the CD/DVD release of Heaven On Earth. I don't have Volia but know it well because of good old Spotify.

I really need to get Belinda (1985) but it's hard to track down for a reasonable price, even on ebay (not looked for little while though). I love I Feel The Magic and Mad About You, and the rest of that album is great too! I also just have a good Go-Gos hits collction because, horror!), my copy of Talk Show broke a couple of months ago!

Yep, Belinda loves Stevie! I bet she loved recording Lindsey's song for Belinda...

Again, I'm not criticizing her sentiments. I'm just criticizing the abject dearth of imagination conveyed in her choice of words. This is supposed to be poetry, not someone saying "Grrrl, I know what that feels like!" It's like the difference between saying "I'm in a car and I'm bored" vs. "You just found the hitcher, prisoner of the white lines on the freeway"- Joni Mitchell. Stevie should be painting the picture with words rather than just simply handing us the photograph. That's what poetry is about IMHO.

Whenever I have to suffer through one of those tortuous, endless 98°F 95% humidity days in New York, I always think of one of my favorite lines evah: "The day drags by... like a wounded animal" from Siouxsie & the Banshees "92°". That's so much better than saying "It's hot and I know what hot feels like."

I fall in and out of love with Silver Girl myself. I am a bit odd, and have a different song for anyone of consequence in my life. A song that represents their essence to me, always makes me smile and think of them when I hear it, reminds of me of them lyrically, etc. Silver Girl is my song for my best friend, Scott. So it'll always hold a special place for me... even if my love for it's production style comes and goes. At the moment, I'm enjoyed Silver Girl... but she'll likely 'fall from grace' again in the future :p.

I don't understand all the dislike for Silver Girl. Whilst it may not be Stevie's greatest moment, it's far from her worst and actually ranks well amongst the other tracks on the Say You Will album. I think her vocal on Silver Girl is definitely one of her best in the last twenty years - it almost harks back to the Bella Donna days in terms of quality.

I guess I'm just put off by the Silver Girl lyrics, which start off badly and then descend from there. Then, the music is not arresting. It doesn't capture me on it's own. I guess I never got far enough past those two things to even appreciate her vocals, as I should.

She was a silver girl, lost in a high tech world
She was a golden girl, immersed in a hard core world

To come home to that, directly after I've spent a long night running through the garden . . . it just seems too much to bear.

The following is from a new Dave Stewart interview courtesy of ethrill.net (http://ethrill.net/2010/05/19/the-business-playground-fan-interview-with-dave-stewart-by-ethrill-net-part-2-of-2/):

If I understood correctly you are also working on two solo albums, one in English, one in French and one album with a bunch of super famous friends…
I’ve been working on a French one for ages but I don’t speak French well enough to write poetic translations of my words so I was doing that with Carla Bruni but she got married to the president of France and got quite busy so I’ve got about three quarters made. I have been doing duets with different artists, that’s why we are going to Greece, we are shooting the video for the Anna Vissi duet and then I’m gonna play it live with her on their version of the sort of „MTV Awards“, the „Balkan Music Awards“ or something like that. And I’ve also just done a duet with Stevie Nicks. But these are all songs I’m just writing or co-writing with other people, and at the same time I’m always recording little sessions of songs myself, building up to having enough for a solo thing, but … it’s all getting a bit busy.

Now before any of you doubters go crazy, Dave is referring specifically to his upcoming solo projects, one of which might feature a duet with Stevie (or perhaps won't as he has mentioned above). I assume Dave's duet album will be quite separate from Stevie's solo album that he is producing. He is already on record stating that they are working on her solo album and that six songs have been recorded (I imagine completed) so perhaps their duet will be on her album as opposed to his solo project which actually seems rather vague and indefinite. Sessions for Stevie's album resume in June so don't anyone lose heart - her solo album will be made.

Sanne2, my understanding of Dave's comments is that he was (and perhaps still is) intending to make an album in collaboration with others ("I have been doing duets with different artists... And I’ve also just done a duet with Stevie Nicks") which the interviewer referred to as being an "album with a bunch of super famous friends".

However, I think what Dave is attempting to say, in his usual vague and round-about way, is that he is working with an array of artists and that whatever comes of these collaborations is not yet certain. For example, the "songs (Dave is) writing or co-writing with other people" could be for other projects and that "at the same time (he is) always recording little sessions of songs myself, building up to having enough for a solo thing", for himself. He seems to be drawing a distinction between at least some of the collaborations and the songs he is writing on his own which would indicate that not all the "duets" will be for his album. We already know that he has stated that he is producing an album for Stevie so we know that this is yet another (separate) project for him. Dave himself seems a little confused about how all these various collaborations/projects will come together when he states "... it’s all getting a bit busy".

With regard to the duet Dave and Stevie have recorded (most likely "Everybody Loves You"), I think this may have started out as a possible inclusion for his solo duets project but now might end up on Stevie's solo album and perhaps was the impetus for them continuing to work together on a whole album (of Stevie's). Regardless of whether he keeps this track for his own album or not, Stevie's solo album is definitely progressing with him at the helm.

Dave's voice was on that song, but it hardly sounded like a duet. I bet it goes on Stevie's album. If you listen to lyrics, it's a song about her life, not his. I take that both artists really like the song, and I agree that it probably caused them to work together more.

I also read around the time Stevie was recording that Joss Stone was recording with Dave. Dave must be recording the duet album with Joss and others (maybe Stevie). I don't think that Lori would record with Dave and Stevie - so she must be coming for a Solo recording with Stevie.

When did she actually write that. Because according to Dave, the thing should be done in June.

Who's she? Nowhere has either Dave or Stevie or anyone else said anything was coming out in June. That bit of information was courtesy of some overactive imaginations on The Ledge.

I seem to recall that it came from a credible "inside" source related to Liz Rosenberg. This is probably the same source that claimed that a new Mac album was already half in the can.

The only thing that Dave said about June is that he and Stevie will continue recording the album, and hopefully finish it by then. Obviously, that does not mean the album will be released in June, but by then it will be able to go into post-production.

Here is the mention about June in relation to Stevie's album. He mentioned it on a BBC radio show during an interview, and here is the summary of the conversation by someone at a Eurythmics fan site:

"Dave also spoke about working with Stevie Nicks, that 6 tracks are recorded so far and they will try and complete the album in the Summer, and that he is hoping to play live with a “bunch of reprobates”"

http://eurythmics.me.uk/?p=12219

The write-up says in the summer, but in the actual interview, if i remember correctly, he said June would be when they continue with their sessions.

Could this be the same person who loves to attack me whenever I have the temerity to offer a reasoned, factually based alternative perspective that dares to differ from their habitual pattern of plucking BS from thin air? The person who has historically & prolifically proffered so much stupid **** and in such condescending obnoxious fashion (and with rich unintentional comedy implications) that the window of being excusable, understandable, or "eh, lets give them a pass on this one, I feel bad for them" doesn't apply, as they are- how do we say- bat**** crazy?

Yep, that'd be them!

Oh- an album's not coming out in June, folks. And the casino dates aren't kicking off a tour for said mythical album.

There is no way that it could. Even when said rumor was announced in April, there was no possibility that the album could be ready by then. August would be the absolute earliest that we would see anything.

Stevie is being very quiet about all of this; even on her off time she does interviews, so obviously she's keeping quiet for a reason.

I had to do a search to see who Hejira and LukeA were speaking of. Big sigh of relief. "I never said Fleetwood Mac had a new cd half-recorded, LukeA didn't mean me, did he?'--biting a xanax in half :) "I never wrote Stevie would have the cd released in June, did I?" No, maybe I'd hoped, publically, that the recording would be completed in June for an August/September release.
I sort of wondered if Luke using 'prolific' could be a kind way of saying 'Kol sure needs an editor' (agreed) and I saw 'crazy' and thought 'ut-oh' !!
And I have mentioned Liz Rosenberg recently (mainly, to point out that Liz Smith had an exclusive this year on wow.com that Liz R actually had been ousted from Warner Brothers but was allowed to say it was her decision to open her own p.r. firm- Not the case, she was dumped.)
After about 15 minutes, I found the Ledgie author whom Hejira and LukeA were referring to and paranoid me was relieved, or the xanax kicked in. I do try to make my humor intentional, when I use it. I can be funny as hell, damn it.
Completely serious, here, I think LukeA is incredibly brilliant, and okay, I hang on every word when I see he has contributed, because I know 'informed' when I read it. I've never read Luke not to be able to back up what others objected to, by providing balanced information of the concert industry, that he's proven to have first-hand knowledge of, and sources for his information. I disagreed once with Luke about something trivial, in a Stevie Nicks or Fleetwood Mac forum, on the merits of Linda Ronstadt's "rock years", but I saw his points and thought maybe that I'd expressed mine, rationally, if too-wordily. Then, I wondered why I even bothered, on The Ledge!
I've also liked Hejira's writing, and his killer photographs, his travelogue of sorts (wrong word?) during the European 'Unleashed' tour with his stellar photographs were awesome. He and I had a recent 'disagreement' over something minor- a tourbook, and actually, I was wrong to be so persistent. The dude (Hejira) doesn't live in the Netherlands, so really only people in The Netherlands could answer the question I was asking. Hejira had once reported of an 'All Access' a fan-package that included a would-be Unleashed tourbook and was kind enough to share the information he had gotten from All Access, but he didn't buy the package, and doesn't live in Europe, the only place the would-be Unleashed tourbook was being mailed to, not to the United States, which he had specified, and I 'missed'.
So, my apology to Hejira. I was wrong to be so stubborn.

But this time: It wasn't me, it wasn't me.* Go to sleep, self!

*This time!
P.S. I just spilled half of a half-gallon of milk on the floor. I thought I had the top on tight. I thought I reached the top shelf when I put the milk bottle in the fridge. Bright side- still plenty of milk for the morning coffee. Afternoon coffee. Whatever.
'Chit Chat' topic- I remember Westlake Village, signs all over the place. Why is Heather Locklear being prosecuted for hitting a sign and not reporting it? Why can't she just pay to have the sign put back up? "Hello, 911, I hit a sign" sheesh--- it's not like it was a person! This was caught on a security camera of sorts? Here, in CT, security cameras at red lights in New Haven were voted as being an invasion of privacy. She did 'Dynasty' and 'TJ Hooker' at the same time! Let her knock over a sign, b*tches! I don't like 40-something blondes to be arrested...makes me nervous.
