I wonder if there will be meet and greet packages for this tour. I know you could only meet Mick in the Mac packages and Joe in the others.

I remember hearing one time that The Eagles were working on ILAA packages that allowed you to pick the member that you wanted to meet. Interesting.

DavidMN: I've never heard that Glenn is a germ freak. From what I understand he's very nice. His Palm Springs house isn't all white. You can see an article about it here: http://www.eaglesfans.com/info/articles/california_cool.htm

Homer explained the band structure very well. It is a corporation and Don and Glenn are the sole owners these days. Timothy and Joe are basically contract players.

Is it true that Glen is a MAJOR germ freak and wont shake peoples hands

I have met Glenn Frey on several occasions and not only does he shake people's hands, he sometimes hugs 'em and kisses 'em on the cheek. This rumor probably has as much veracity as the rumor that Stevie had roadies blow cocaine up her butt.

As some of you guys may remember, I got to meet all the current members of Fleetwood Mac and talk to Lindsey "off-duty" at a hotel bar in Chicago. None have been as kind to me as Glenn was (although I can't fault them, as they were indeed friendly - just not AS friendly). Lindsey does the hugging and occasional kissing of cheeks too, but Glenn has gone beyond even that.

Until Don H and Glenn put their foot down(which resulted in the firing of Felder, since he wouldn't agree to the "new deal"), touring revenues were split EVENLY among all 5 members. Don and Glenn realized that they could force the others to agree to make less(they now make 40/40/10/10%, since Felder's out of the picture). Before, it was 5 even 20%'s.
And yes, it's true that after Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner left, that the Eagles "corporation", only consisted of Henley, Frey, and Felder. So even though touring revenues were split evenly, merch and the like, weren't options for Joe and Tim.
Sooo, on one hand, you can't blame Felder, for wanting to go from 20%, to 10. BUT, he never realized that they were gonna can him, if he didn't agree to the deal. He tried to beg his way back in, but what was done, was done(there had been bad blood between Felder and Frey, for years).

According to Felder's book, revenues weren't split evenly from the outset of the Hell Freezes Over reunion. Glenn and Don told Felder "We can do this without you, so either you accept 1/7 instead of 1/5, or we'll exclude you from the reunion." (the breakdown: Henley - 2/7, Frey - 2/7, Felder - 1/7, Schmit 1/7, Walsh 1/7.) Felder did the math, realized the amount of money he'd still be making, and said yes... thinking to use his leverage once he was in the band to go back to 1/5. He was kidding himself - that didn't happen. He complained, but sucked it up. When they tried to cut him out of some other business deals in 1999 before the release of a new box set and a new tour with the possibility of a new studio album, he made a bigger stink... and they fired him. He did indeed try to beg his way back in but when that didn't work, he sued. They reached a settlement in 2006 for an undisclosed amount.

Since I got most of this from Felder's book, he may be fudging details - who knows.

It's been quite some time, since I read Don's book.
And although Felder is my favorite Eagle, I can't help but think, that he MUST HAVE been some sort of pain in the ass, for it to have come to his firing. Surely it was about more than just money. It almost bothers me, reading his book, that I can't help but think of what he's NOT saying about himself.......if he were the (almost) saint that he portrays himself, how could Glenn have not liked him?

That's a good one.

Generally speaking, its about 40/30/15/15... SN/LB/MF/JM. At least that's how the SYW tour revenues were split. Stevie continues to require her $175-200K per gig for her services.

What we heard from people "in the know" at the time was that because Felder was unhappy with the money situation he started causing other problems, like threatening to not show up at the Millennium shows (in his book he says he was ill....I was 4 feet from him during one of the Vegas shows....he was not ill at all), not wanting to participate in recording sessions......and just generally dragging his feet about everything and being a complete pain in the ass. That's why he was fired.......not because of the money. There was a clause in the contract they all signed that said they wouldn't do things to hurt the band. So that's how they got him.

I agree, Felder went out of his way to make himself look good in his book.....really makes you wonder about the guy.........

Yeah, I always figured he HAD to be difficult, or it couldn't have ended like it did. But, I've read so much about Henley being a big pain in the ass, too. Although he's usually nice to fans.
"No one can suck the fun out of a room, quicker than Don Henley" - Glenn Frey

But for me, the reason I was so upset at Felder's firing, was his guitar playing. For me, he just SMOKES Joe Walsh! Joe plays licks like I play. Nothing really special, that really stands out. Don came up with some BRILLIANT solos. BRILLIANT! That's why I hated to see him go. :(

Felder was a reason the Eagles got big, he plays a mean guitar, but I always thought he contributed to his own demise. Frey/Henley is what people go to see primarily, same with B/N with FM. in the end they're gonna have the pull/influence.

I wouldn't. I'd rather hang out with John McVie and talk about Arsenal. Mick would be great to hang out with, too, although I've already done that once. John's history is significantly more impressive to me than Stevie's or Lindsey's. Think about it, he was on the "breakout" releases for Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Mick Taylor, Mick Fleetwood, Jeremy Spencer, Danny Kirwan, Bob Welch, Stevie Nicks, and Lindsey Buckingham. (Yeah, some of them had prior releases, but McVie was on the ones that put them firmly in the spotlight.)

The whole Stevie superstar thing or Lindsey genius thing really does nothing for me. Their rock star status does not impress me. If you don't think of them as rock stars, but just as regular people, Stevie and Lindsey seem to be two of the most narcissistic individuals out there. That bores me to tears. I know a rock star that if I didn't know he was a rock star, I would never guess he was a rock star. He's too busy writing and releasing new music to get all hung up on being a rock star. When he goes out, it's to hang out with friends he's known for years or people who've more recently come into the picture who have earned some level of trust. Does he sell a lot of records? No, but then again, he told Warner Bros. to f**k off.

I have to defend Henley here a little. :) Yes, he can be "difficult", but having been a fan for over 20 years now I feel I can say he has definitely mellowed. We have a few contacts with people who work directly for him so we tend to get the Don side of things, but it really seems like Don bends over backwards to appease Frey on a lot of issues. Of course I'm sure if we heard from people who work for Glenn, they'd say just the opposite. :)

I really can't say I miss Felder all that much in the band. Yes, he's a great guitar player, but I really prefer Joe's playing. It's more organic and not as pristine sounding as Felder's playing....if that makes sense. I'm not a musician. :)

I just wanted to say I've really been enjoying your contributions to this thread. It's interesting to learn the inner workings of another band which in many ways, is very equivalent to my beloved Fleetwood Mac. I love the Eagles too, so I've definitely enjoyed seeing an Eagles fan's point of view on this whole double bill tour thing.

I hope you don't find Fleetwood Mac fans have been too hostile. We're all really great folks when it comes down to it. I think we are all just greatly annoyed at the path (or lack thereof) the band has taken since '97. That frustration seems to come out in all sorts of ways. I suspect there are probably a lot of annoyed people in the Eagles world too for that matter. Truthfully, I wish both bands had been more prolific since their big '90s reunions.

I wonder how in the hell Lindsey swallows that, seeing as he not only writes and sings just like Stevie, but he also plays instruments and produces. I realize Stevie is supposed to be the "star" in the touring venue... but that payment arrangement still doesn't seem fair. For some reason I assumed Mick had more of a controlling interest in the band too. I guess all of that went out the window after the Tusk tour.

I totally agree... and I'm absolutely a Stevie Boy. For some reason, I'd have to go with Lindsey if ever given the choice (like that's gonna happen!). He seems like the only one you could sit down and really talk music with, or have any sort of varied conversation about most anything with. He seems like he'd actually have insightful things to say about the world. Mick is too meandering, Stevie is too self absorbed, and John just wants to be left the hell alone .

Unless he grew two extra arms, I doubt that's possible. I DO know, that he came up with the bass part(which is SIGNIFICANT to that song). I don't remember if Randy Meisner couldn't be there(it's in Don's book, but I'm too lazy to go find it), or what, but I know Don had to teach him the bass part.

It seems that Felder had one guitar attached to something on each side of him and was playing one with each hand simultaneously. I dont know if thtas even possible but thats what my friend told me. If this is really going to happen, is it at all possible that by the two groups going out on tour together, there might be somewhat of a resurgence in interest in their particular kind of music??? I mean, more so than a tour by either group alone? Kind of a "gathering the forces" kind of thing. If FM do what we all want and get together for a new album, could this kind of exposure perhaps help them in the long run...perhaps open them up to a bigger audience???

That's a nice silver lining to contemplate. I guess the double bill could help them if they showed something that concertgoers don't know about them. If they surprised them somehow, if they played some songs that people don't necessarily associate with them and show that they have a harder or fresher edge than Little Lies radio play might suggest.

On the other hand, since the other set of fans will be the Eagles' audience, I don't know if they would necessarily appreciate the rest of FM's spectrum.

Of course, having access to fans that are not their own would be the perfect way to expose some new music. I keep hoping that will happen, but fear it's a pipe dream.

If they stayed with a Rumours songs setlist, they won't surprise non-fans, who've heard that stuff even if they've never seen FM before, but maybe people will be impressed by their live showmanship and they'll gain new followers that way.

Can Don Henley and Stevie Nicks Work Together on an Eagles and Fleetwood Mac Tour?
December 27, 2009 by Ron Hart

As the Classic Rock Supergroups Plan a Summer Tour, Will the Former Lovers Get Along?
Will Don Henley and Stevie Nicks share the stage, and the limelight, as the rumored Eagles and Fleetwood Mac co-headlining classic rock tour seems to be close to official? As Henley and Nicks are the most recognizable names and faces in their respective 1970's rock
Can Don Henley and Stevie Nicks Work Together on an Eagles and Fleetwood Mac Tour? super-groups, the two share a history that somehow manages to be both shrouded in mystery and well publicized.

Probably the most difficult aspect to putting together a concert tour like this one is not logistical in nature. Though logistics can be a challenge, the biggest obstacle can be the egos involved. Who exactly is the bigger group, the Eagles or Fleetwood Mac? Who will close the show? Are more Eagles fans or more Fleetwood Mac fans coming? How will this affect the dynamic between the principals in the two groups?

Now, throw in the fact that Don Henley and Stevie Nicks had an on again and off again love affair during the late 1970's and into the early 1980's, and you have an even more complicated situation. While both are quite a bit older now, romances from the past often are hardwired in people's psyche. To further complicate matters, Nicks was involved in no less than three of the other participants in this mega concert tour: Lindsay Buckingham and Mick Fleetwood from Fleetwood Mac, and Joe Walsh from the Eagles.

If this all seems to add up to a potentially tenuous situation, here is one more thing to consider. Don Henley, in an GQ article from the early 1990's, told the world that he believed Nicks became pregnant by him, aborted the baby and named the unborn fetus Sara. Henley shared that he believed Nicks then wrote one of her most famous songs, Sara, and dedicated it to the Henley sired love child that would never be.

In subsequent years, Stevie Nicks made it clear that she was not at all happy with Henley's statement to the world. While she did not deny being pregnant with Henley's child, she apparently was very unhappy with Henley for sharing it in an interview with a national magazine.

Certainly, it appears that through the years Henley and Nicks have patched things up. In recent years, they have performed on stage together, most notably during a mini-tour without the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac in which both performed alone and together.

While both Henley and Nicks became solo stars in their own right, neither became nearly as big as they were with the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac respectively. So while a small solo tour with the King and Queen of 1970's Southern California rock seemingly went well, an Eagles and Fleetwood
Can Don Henley and Stevie Nicks Work Together on an Eagles and Fleetwood Mac Tour? Mac pairing will have a lot more attention and will represent a lot more at stake.

Both groups have had more than their share of internal drama, but as they bring them together to sell out football and baseball stadiums across the country, it will be very interesting to observe their on stage dynamic (if they perform together), and any offstage drama that may leak out to the world at large.

While both Henley and Nicks are total professionals, and as each are nearing the point of senior citizenship, it is unlikely that any real 'dirty laundry' will be exposed. And for his part, Henley is now a married man. But if the interpersonal relationships again get emotional or complicated, it will be interesting to see how it might effect the tour and the product on the stage.

This was just posted on our news page. We had heard they would play the new NJ stadium and now another source is saying the same thing.

Happy New Year to L&M and heres a New Years present. A very reliable source called me this morning and said there will definitely be an Eagles and Fleetwood Mac concert at the new Meadowlands Stadium this summer and Fleetwood Mac will be opening for the Eagles.

hmmm... would I rather hear new music from the band that has consistently produced mind-blowing new albums over a period of almost 40 years, followed by a tour where they play said songs, along with some classics, and (hopefully) some rarities like Sisters of the Moon, Angel, and Not that Funny, reclaiming their artistic relevance, as well as gaining a new generation of fans

or... would I rather see them tour with another band, playing the same songs the same way they have since the syw tour, in a shortened set, sharing a bill with another band that did that for about ten years (hell freezes over to present) who on their own charge enough to bankrupt me for nosebleeds, and share my first mac concert with a bunch of drunk baby boomers trying to recapture the spirit of '77 and crying foul whenever mac or the eagles play a song that was NOT played to death on the radio?

the choice for me is pretty clear...NO

ME WANT NEW ALBUM!

If they stayed with a Rumours songs setlist, they won't surprise non-fans, who've heard that stuff even if they've never seen FM before, but maybe people will be impressed by their live showmanship and they'll gain new followers that way.

Michele

Are you being serious? I love the Mac, but honestly don't think they will impress anyone with their live show. There's nothing all that impressive about it. :sorry:

However, since it's Eagles fans we're talking about, they just might. I've seen the Eagles live. They are fantastic vocally & musically. But the live show itself is, well, not very lively. They all just kinda stand there & play and sing. I don' treally know what I expect them to do :D and like I said, vocally they're still amazing but I have to admit I was a bit bored.

I know at least one Eagles fan who was blown away by the fact that Lindsey was so interactive with fans at the front - heck, that the band allowed people at the front, period. I think it's very possible that this combo will make many Eagles fans appreciate Fleetwood Mac more. I know the "Two Voices" tour brought the Eagles to my attention and now I'm quite the hardcore in both fandoms.

Maybe the Mac is wanting to do this tour during the summer to amp up their popularity among concert rock goes and will plan on releasing a new album in time for the winter holidays.

I can see it. With members from both bands crossing over and playing in harmony with the other. Remember, HARMONY is one of the components that make these bands great. Perhaps there will be a new single or two, duets vocally and guitar-wise...come on folks, open your hearts and minds. The world needs this kind of energy.

Yeah, I think it's impressive. It's amazing how many people have great music but are quite stultifying live. After I saw Rascal Flatts and Sarah Mclachlan live I actually had to pass through a little transition period to get back into their cds, because they were so uninspiring in concert.

There are some people who shouldn't bother releasing CD/DVDs together, because the DVD will just cancel out whatever drew you to the CD.

I haven't seen the Eagles. I saw Don with Stevie and he just stood there and because it was nippy and damp he was wearing a big overcoat for part of the show, which made him seem even more stagnant.

I think there's a great deal of energy and spirit in an FM show.

I admitted that The Eagles are bigger than Fleetwood Mac but I do think Stevie is a bigger draw than Don, Joe, Glenn, or Tim.

Didn't Don address this in an interview back in 2005? I could swear he said that he and his band went first due to the logistics of setting up the equipment on the stage; to set up the stage for Don's band took less time or something? Anyway, it had nothing to do with who was the "bigger act".

I think too it was Don being a gentleman....letting the lady go 2nd.

As for the idea that Don can only sell out 2,000 to 3,000. I don't recall ever saying that. On Don's latest string of solo dates in November he was playing smaller places of about 5,000, but also a few arenas of 8 to 10,000. He's still a fairly big draw. :)

Ok, I found the article on a site called eaglesfans.typepad.com :

June 07, 2005
Eagle Flies with Nightbird (Mansfield Preview)
Link: BostonHerald.com - the Edge: Eagle flies with nightbird.

Don Henley is nothing if not a gentleman.

When asked in what order he and ``Two Voices'' tourmate Stevie Nicks would perform at their co-headlining show at the Tweeter Center in Mansfield tonight, Henley laughs.

``I'm going to go first every night,'' he says, ``because there are certain things that she has to have.''

Those include, but are not limited to, special lighting, time for costume changes and the proper performing temperature.

``I'm just a guy,'' Henley says. ``Guys don't mind sweating. I'm just going to go first and that will make my life a lot simpler.''

The charming Eagles frontman and Fleetwood Mac's witchy woman, both 57, have long been friends - and more in the mid-'70s. They even scored a hit duet in 1981 with ``Leather and Lace.''

What songs will they sing together on tour?

Speaking by phone from Dallas, Henley chuckles.

``We've already exchanged lists. Now we're in the process of arguing about it.''

Following his stint with Nicks, Henley hopes to begin work on an album of new American standards by the likes of Leonard Cohen and Randy Newman.

Then he'll hit the road again with the Eagles in August. If you're waiting for that long-promised new Eagles album, Henley has some advice: Don't hold your breath.

``I don't know if that's ever going to come to fruition,'' he says.``It used to be frustrating, but I had to adopt a more Zenlike position or tear my hair out.''

Well it still baffles me that Don is an attraction as a solo act. Never have I heard of one person going to his solo show or any promotion to back a 10,000 seater. The only songs I know of his that he did by himself are Boys of Summer and End of Innocence.

When was the last time Stevie sold anywhere near 10,000 tickets to a single concert? Pretty sure it was 2001.

Before the Eagles reunion, Don would sporadically headline sheds/arenas. He's a theater/boutique shed act these days, no doubt.. Stevie being firmly entrenched in boutique shed territory.

Well, if they do end up doing this tour, I will definitely make every effort possible to get to a show - for as long as I've been a fan, I've only managed to see the Mac itself once live, this last time on the Unleashed tour, so I'd love to see them again.

I'm just antsy about how spendy the tickets will end up being, even for crap nosebleeds, since I know the Eagles are famous for their ridiculous ticket prices, and the Unleashed ticket prices weren't what I'd really call reasonable.

Since I've only seen my favorite band once live and I probably won't have many more chances to do so in the grand scheme of things (they are old, after all), I hate the idea of missing a chance to do so, but if the tix are too spendy (relatively speaking, I don't expect $45 tickets or something), I will flail around like Kermit and be sad.

michelej1
01-03-2010, 03:19 PM
Would there be any 'good', ethical way to trade with an Eagles fan my one ticket for his/her one ticket, if they too need to be down front to enjoy 'their' band. I don't care where I sit for The Eagles, and they don't care where they sit for Fleetwood Mac. Nothing against either band, it's understood. Just what we individually want. So, say, I get my Front 5 Rows ticket. Hard to predict, but let's say it's $400. And there's an Eagles fan who honestly doesn't care about being down front for Mac. THEY buy a nosebleed seat, say that's $150. Total $550, divided by me and the Eagles fan, would equal $275 each instead of $400 each, for a down front seat for me to use for Fleetwood Mac, he or she for The Eagles.

You know, I think some kind of switch off arrangement is an excellent idea. If FM is going first, I really have no desire to stay for the Eagles and I would gladly give my seat up to an Eagles fan during the intermission between sets.

Of course, if they all do join the stage for a finale at the end, that's a different story. I'd have to stay put. I guess even if Stevie hangs around to do Hotel California, I guess I'd want to see that.

But if there is no mingling between the bands, I think the idea you propose is a good one. Of course, even the "nosebleed" seats for this concert are going to be pricey.

Oh, there's no question Eagles are the bigger draw- but if Fleetwood Mac is presented/promoted as the opening act (as this seems to suggest), and not just simply the act that goes on first (an important distinction)... that's a big blow to the ego. I for one am loath to draw conclusions about the negative effects of their presentation and promotion strategies without having any idea what they will be. Let's not jump the gun and make declarative judgments which very well may turn out to inaccurate, eh?

Fleetwood Mac knows its best interests better than any of us do. If this is happening, it's worth their while. They are managed by someone who knows the value of image and who has no desire for them to come off as "desperate," decreasing their market value and damaging future revenue potential not only for the band but for himself.

Therefore, I'd wait to see how this is handled before I'd start pouring water on blankets and chance being the one that looks all wet in the end.

All I was doing was extrapolating on HenleyFan's "opening" comment, which I felt was somewhat revealing. Its usually only the most preliminary, basic details that leak out before any kind of official announcement; if its been preliminarily established in kind that FM will be, in fact, opening for Eagles, I don't think its unreasonable to speculate FM's intentions/motivations, as (for all we know) this could have been the first hurdle that needed to be cleared for Eagles to consider it.

After all, we know that all we'll get in the official press release will be a quote attributed to Lindsey or somebody saying something like "It'll be great to team up with these guys and give everyone a rockin' show!" We won't get an actual explanation behind their reasoning.

Now, what will you eat if only Stevie hangs around to join in the set?

We should take odds on this, because I agree with you that "all" of them won't be doing anything. Lindsey and John are out of there. But Stevie and Mick are long shots. If they wanted Mick for anything (but, hmmm, I seem to remember they have some kind of drummer of their own already), he would return for a cameo quite readily.

And Stevie would do it, if prevailed upon. I understand that one or two of them have powers of persuasion.

Holy sh** we actually agree on something! ;)

I could see it being a "double headliner" situation if they swapped who closes the show (ala the Elton John/Eric Clapton tour in the 90s), but I don't see the Eagles relenting to going on first at any point. (unless they play Birmingham, Alabama and Stevie asks Don really nicely). So, it seems to me that Fleetwood Mac is "opening act"...not just "first on stage".

It'd be tough to find two bigger bands in 1970s, and neither Fleetwood Mac or the Eagles has seen any real drop-off in popularity in the ensuing years. Next summer the two behemoths will join for forces for a massive stadium tour, including multi-night stands in some major markets. The Eagles last tour, 2008's Long Road Out of Eden Tour, grossed over $57 million in just over 50 nights of touring, and last year's Fleetwood Mac tour took in over $63 million in just over 60 dates. The mind reels at what these acts will pull down in tandem but it's safe to bet that fans will need to start saving now if they want a seat anywhere near the stage. Dates as yet unannounced but the Eagles are scheduled to headline three nights at the Hollywood Bowl in April

If I were in your shoes, I'd want to see this show too.

As far as ticket prices go, I can totally see them saying "well, you are seeing 2 HUGE bands" and charge $75 for cheap seats trying to make you think it's a bargain.

If they all play together on stage at the end, I will eat dog food. :)

Yeah. I just figure I only have so many chances left to see them, so I gotta do what I can. I like the Eagles fine, too, so that'll be all right.

I just hope the tickets won't be too outrageous. (That's me engaging in magical thinking right there, heh.)

Looking forward to something more official on it.

The other tour, which is only in the rumor mill at this point, is The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac. Both are quartets that were more famous as quintets. Fleetwood Mac's loss of keyboardist singer Christine McVie (to retirement) is a bigger deal to them than The Eagles' loss of guitarist Don Felder (who was fired). I imagine that this will be a greatest hits deal for both bands, and I doubt there will be any collaboration. There's too much jealousy and ego between the members of the individual bands, and probably between both bands.

A guy named "Shadowland07" posted this on my Eagles board - it's from Rolling Stone:

Eagles, Fleetwood Mac Prep Tour:

Two giants of Seventies rock - the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac - are planning a joint tour for next summer. The outing will hit stadiums and arenas, and will include multinight stands in some markets. "Any time you have two stars on a package, it becomes a bigger evening," says Billy Joel's booking agent Dennis Arfa of Artist Group International. "The problem is that when you go into stadiums, it's harder to sell to the baby-boomer audience." Both groups have toured extensively in recent years; Fleetwood Mac hit the road in 2009, without a new album to support, and grossed $63 million over 59 shows. Touring behind 2007's Long Road Out Of Eden, the Eagles grossed $57 million over 50 nights in 2008.

Hmmm, this seems to belie the "Eagles are incredibly more successful than Fleetwood Mac at selling tickets" argument. The Eagles take in approximately $1.14 million per show, Fleetwood Mac approximately $1.06 million per show. Both of those round to $1.1 million.

Its easier to believe when you take a further look at the facts.

Eagles played two large festivals in 2008- the Stagecoach Festival in Indio, CA, and a huge festival in Moncton, NB- both of which they headlined and were attended by 50,000+. Neither of these gigs are factored into the oft-referenced Eagles '08 gross. They commanded in excess of $3M to headline each of these festivals, and its inarguable that their presence sold the bulk of these tickets.

The Stagecoach show was also the only Eagles show anywhere near the west coast for all of 2008 & 2009, and was marketed as such- intending to pull people from the surrounding states. Not that California is a big market for Eagles or anything.

The Mother of All Classic Rock Concert Tours
The Eagles will begin their Long Road out of Eden Tour at the Hollywood Bowl in, in a three-night run, April 16, 17 and 20.

It has been rumored that they would be touring with Fleetwood Mac. If the two bands did tour together it would be one heck of a concert.

According to Associated Content, rock and roll concerts have changed. There are really only a handful of acts, mostly older, at this point that can sell out large stadiums on their own. U2, Bruce Springsteen and maybe the Rolling Stones are the only bands that can still draw huge crowds.

During their heyday, both the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac could sell out stadiums on their own. Even today, both acts are among the most popular rock bands on the concert circuit. As they combine forces, however, they will be easily the most most in demand ticket of the summer.

Of course, the 300 pound gorilla in the room is the age of these bands and their fan bases. While both have fans across the age spectrum, the average age of each is well into the baby boomer range. It will be interesting, to say the least, to see sixty to seventy thousand greying (or greyed) baby boomers packing football stadiums rocking along one last time to the bands of their youth.

The Eagles and Fleetwood Mac Both Tour; Could This Be the Swan Song for ...
Associated Content
Both the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac are hitting the road this summer for moderately sized concert tours. Fleetwood Mac will begin a thirty date tour on March ...
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2721019/the_eagles_and_fleetwood_mac_both_tour.html?cat=33

Rival Royal Families from 1970's Socal Rock to Head Out on the Road. Again
2 Both the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac are hitting the road this summer for moderately sized concert tours. Fleetwood Mac will soon announce a spring and summer tour and the Eagles will begin what is as of now a fourteen date mini-tour on April 16th at the Hollywood Bowl.
Earlier, it was widely rumored that they would actually tour together, but it now seems that that will not happen.

Given the bands' advanced ages and their relative lack of new music output, the upcoming tours would seem to possibly be final hurrah for two of the pillars of so-called dinosaur rock.

Right?

Well, nothing really ever is that predictable with these "frenemy" bands. As the band members have all now moved into their sixties, it would seem to be logical that they would soon be wrapping it up. Of course, the Eagles 'wrapped it up' back in the early 1980's and Fleetwood Mac did the same in the mid 1980's.

At various times, both bands, in one way or another swore that they would never tour again.

Don Henley famously once said that the Eagles would reform and tour when "hell freezes over." His bandmate and co-founder Glenn Frey chimed in, "There will be no greed and lost youth tour."

So, of course, the Eagles regrouped 1994 for a tour and live album both titled "Hell Freezes Over", to the delight of millions of mostly boomer era fans. Though the appeal of the Eagles has always crossed generations, their core fan base was still young enough, and now affluent enough, in the mid 1990's to make the tour the most lucrative of all time. So one more jaunt around the globe seemed to make sense as the boys still had their fastballs and a return to the smooth harmonies and musicianship was suddenly back in demand after punk, metal hair bands and grunge had run their respective courses. Not to mention, of course, that while Don Henley's solo career had taken off, the other band members found relatively little success.

While through the 1980's and into the 1990's it seemed exceedingly unlikely that the Eagles would ever get back together, what seems even more implausible is the fact that 16 years after hell froze over, they'd still be doing it. Even in 1994, there was a large segment of music snobs and critics who dismissed them as 'dinosaur rock' and old men cashing in on past glories. And yet the past 16 years has seen a smash hit album. While uneven and meeting with mixed reviews, Long Road Out of Eden, released in 2007, was one of the biggest selling albums of the year.

For their part, Fleetwood Mac has actually toured fairly consistently, though often with dramatically different lineups (at one point not even including their two signature members, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham). After failed intra band romances and all sorts of chemical dependency, they too reformed for real, following the Eagles' template, in 1997 and have mostly been together ever since...releasing an album of new material called The Dance, in 2003.

To both bands 'credit, neither has fooled their fans into thinking that the next tour would be their last. The Eagles even playfully named one of their tours "Farewell I"; the implication being that nobody knew, least of all the Eagles, as to how many 'final tours' they would eventually have.

Both the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac are both down a member: the Eagles Don Felder was fired in 2001 and Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie no longer tours with the band, preferring retirement in England. But the remaining members seem healthy and still sound great...even if some of Fleetwood Mac's performances in recent years have seemed to be just a bit less than their best ten or twelve years ago. But similar to an athlete aging gracefully, neither band is embarrassing itself on stage, and both remain huge concert draws, even if off just a bit from their peaks.

So while some may actually hope that these are the final tours for 'dinosaur rock bands', and while others may hope they keep defying father time, most all should probably agree at this point that predicting when these bands will finally hang it up for good is a fool's game.

I'll be one to completely get excited about this possibility.

Assuming this actually happens,

1. Let's hope Fleetwood Mac goes second.

2. There's a ton of drama

3. We can actually have the opportunity to watch Fleetwood Mac outside with 70,000 other people. What an experience that would be.

4. And I'll say it, it's a great chance for Fleetwood Mac to come out "on top" at the end of the concert. After the last year of touring, I don't think there's anyone in either band melting faces like Buckingham.

With all that being said, I should probably go take out a second mortgage to buy a ticket.

Well just from the double header shows I've seen, the second band gets the slot when the sun's down, which on a basic level works better for FM. The stage effects are more prominent that way too. Plus, and I've never seen the Eagles so it's speculation, but I think the Mac's end set is better for closing out the whole show.

No, the Eagles ARE awesome. I just think a combined show would suck in every way. Shortened sets (aka all the fun songs of the Unleashed Tour are cut), Fleetwood Mac as an opening act (gahhh), ticket prices through the roof, and not being able to lean right against the stage!! I really hope it doesn't happen. I had to see Don Henley once...that was enough.

The shortened sets are the worst bit, and the bands tend to play 'greatest hits' material, to please both audiences. This happened with Pat Benatar and Blondie last summer.

Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles May Not Tour After All According to Timothy B. Schmit

If Timothy B. Schmit knows what's going on, perhaps the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac will not be touring together after all. In recent interview, the Eagles bassist was asked about the rumored plan for the
Fleetwood Mac and the Eagles May Not Tour After All According to Timothy B. Schmit two 1970's mega groups to jointly tour football and baseball stadiums throughout the summer of 2010.

Schmit said he wasn't sure how much he really should say, but offered that he "didn't think that's happening".

While a joint tour featuring the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac might make sense from a marketing perspective, and could help spread overhead costs across the two groups, there would seemingly be a potential for a large number of logistical and personality challenges. Not the least of which is the relationship between the two most recognizable members of both bands, Don Henley and Stevie Nicks. Former lovers, they have had a turbulent relationship through the years. While most recently it seems they have gotten along well, there have been rumors of problems between the two on their joint tour in 2005.

Schmit mentioned that the Eagles might tour jointly with another band, though he did agree with interviewer David White that they wouldn't necessarily need to for the purposes of ticket sales.

Schmit is hardly the voice of the band; he was only with them for one album, The Long Run, in the group's first incarnation and, along with Joe Walsh, are really hired hands as co-founders Don Henley and Glenn Frey share actual ownership in the band. A third Eagle with full ownership, Don Felder, was fired from the band in early 2001. A lawsuit and semi-tell all book followed, both of which portrayed Henley and Frey as making all of he decisions. Schmit also contributed to the Eagles 2007 album, Long Road out of Eden, which was met with mixed reviews.

I don't hate the Eagles. I really like their music. But Ive seen live footage and a Don Henley solo set and was just like

I don't want to pay $400 to get tenth row at some football stadium to hear the Unleashed Tour set (minus the good songs) and look at DH. Sorry.

Because everything on/about Twitter is undertaken with the utmost of seriousness & sincerity, right?

Snark aside, why would the real Lindsey Buckingham register as "Lndsybuckingham"? Unless, of course, its an impostor who couldn't register for "lindseybuckingham" because its already been registered by Lindsey's management to protect its potential future use. Nah, that couldn't be it.

The guy can sing. But he is a terrible drummer. His timing is okay, but his skills are so rudimentary, that it's laughable, when their "backup drummer" takes over. Don Felder said this, too, in his book.

A few months ago, Don made Rolling Stone's "Top 100 singers" list. I'm a huge fan of his singing.

Not horrible but he's no Mick or John Bonham....I know he wished he was....I think I've got an interview during Beast where he admits to not being the best drummer in the world.....sorry I can't post it....I know during the recording of an Eagles LP he stated he really wanted to let loose (when Glyn Johns was producing than) he said he wanted to play like John Bonham and Johns said ..." but you don't play drums like him..." I do love his singing & songwriting.....of course I'll always love him playing drums during Hotel California....one of the best songs ever!!!! IMO anyway.......If I stated what I said above wrong I'm sorry for I am going only by memory.....I read DF book too and what he said was very very interesting.....I have to admit....

Looks like the Eagles are doing the stadium tour with Keith Urban and the Dixie Chicks instead of Fleetwood Mac. Poor substitutes, if you ask me, but a far clearer hierarchy of acts. It's been posted on Joe Walsh's official site (http://www.joewalsh.com) so it's for real this time.

Not sure if this is necessarily a stadium-sized billing. But at least ticket prices are comparable to a regular Eagles show- $50-$225 for the June 10 show at Meadowlands Stadium. So this might not be such a bad billing... BUT... this is a Thursday show. Exactly how long is this hootenanny gonna last on a weekday/weeknight?

For $50-$225, I think an FM/Eagles double bill would have been a sure sellout. Not sure about this one though...

I've never seen Keith Urban, but the Dixie Chicks put on a mighty fine show and are musicians, which is something I think gets lost in the shuffle. I don't care for them personality wise, because they would employ the same tactics against those who disagree with them that they themselves were victims of -- that hypocrisy really gets to me. But I think they are great performers and I would have loved to see Lindsey on a Crossroads type show with them.

I'm not sure who was most against it, I'm gonna guess both Stevie and Lindsey. Of all the ways they could spend their 2010, touring with the Eagles wouldve been such a waste of time especially as they're getting on in years. Reverb reported nearly two months ago that the Eagles/Fleetwood Mac stadium tour had been scrapped before a single date had been set (unfortunately, we can’t reveal the reason, but don’t put your mind in the gutter -- it is far from tragic, scandalous or life-and-death. It was a concept that just didn’t work out). The Eagles have a slew of arena dates starting in April in LA, but they’ve got replacement stadiums set up dates with the Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban.

Billy Joel recently announced that he’s leaving the Billy Joel/Elton John tour, that he needs some time off. Take that at face value I think it is true.. I interviewed Billy several days ago for a separate project, and he’s happy, sober, sharp and in good humor. Taking a year off would have helped many artists back in the day. Good for Billy for looking out for himself. And may I say it? Billy Joel kicks ass.

Michael Jackson could have used $250 million a year ago. It’s gross to say it, but now that he’s gone and can’t spend it, he’s got it. His estate is going to make Elvis’ marketing look like an ice cream stand.Get ready for a decade of Jacko.

250 Million minus the 400+ million he was in debt ( Billboard Magazine), let's
see, still in the hole over 150 million (pardon the pun). Sony gets to release
10 albums over the next seven years with the "new" deal. So with album
sales the way they are, and are trending, Sony needs to make 25 million +
per album to break even. Yeah, that seems like a great deal. I'd like to know just how
much real money his children are going to see. As if those numbers are true,
because you know record companies and artist (especially the Jackson's) like
to inflate numbers.

The dates may have been held, but "secured" (as in contracted)? As in, they *needed* to happen with or without Fleetwood Mac? Doubtful. They never needed Fleetwood Mac for anything.

My original point was- it might be nice to assume/believe that Fleetwood Mac turned down the tour (the "original plan"- as if the one article that was planted on an Azoff-controlled website could give us divine understanding into how these Eagles dates were planned) based on principle, as has been suggested.. but, in all likelihood, Eagles/Azoff simply realized could make more money with the announced dates/pairing.

I agree that the Eagles don't *need* Fleetwood Mac, but there is no doubt that tickets would have been more expensive, attendance would have been greater and more money would have been made all around with FM on the bill. I really don't understand the Dixie Chicks-Keith Urban angle at all. Yes, the Eagles have dabbled in the country world in the past (but then again, so has Bon Jovi!), but their fanbase is far from being the Confederate-flag waving, CMT-watching Wal Mart shoppers that listen to country radio. I suspect that a majority of Eagles fans are kind of icked-out at the prospect of having to sit through Keith Urban AND the Dixie Chicks. Sure, I suppose there are some Dixie Chicks fans who are curious about seeing them after such a long hiatus, but I suspect the Dixie Chicks are not yet at the point in their career where people would be willing to pay $225 to see them. And Keith Urban is just wasted space. They may as well have put Miley Cyrus on the bill instead; at least she would be able to draw out the tweens and make it a family affair for, uh, really rich families.

Do you remember the Bush fiasco? The Chicks were completely shunned by country radio and CMT. There were even death threats against Natalie(have you seen "Shut Up and Sing"?) So if you're picturing flag wavers as Chick's fans, you're far from correct.

They are hot live. I'd love to see Lindsey with them, though I'm sure he wouldn't be open to the suggestion -- which is irritating, considering he played guitar for Carrie Underwood. Grrr.

What I don't like about them is after what they went through, they still support the boycotting of other artists. They should be the last people to say don't buy Reba or Toby's music if you don't like their politics. Instead, they're the first people to say that. They actually seem as much in favor of censorship as their detractors are. They annoy me, especially Natalie.

But the album was great and so was the doc Shut Up and Sing.

I almost wanted to print "Take your cat and leave my sweater," on mugs. It was sooo good.

Oh, seeing people live can kill you. I was a big Sarah McLachlan fan, but watching her live drained all the life out of her songs. And it wasn't the sound. She still sounded good. It was looking at her, standing there all dull.

So, I wonder if the Dixie Chicks are going to come out at the end of the show and do encores with the Eagles. The Eagles have some great songs, but don't do them justice in concert. The Chicks could change that.

I'm not going to this show, but it really sounds 10x better than an FM/Eagles pairing would have been.

So, The Eagles got both The Dixie Chicks and Keith Urban for less money than they would have had to pay Fleetwood Mac. And it's so much safer for The Eagles.
The Eagles don't have that decades-long competition thing with the Chicks and KU, like with Fleetwood Mac. There's no chance of The Eagles being upstaged, simply because The Dixie Chicks and KU don't have their 'status' of being a mega band for 35 years, so even if the Chicks and KU put on better sets, The Eagles are still the star headliners.
I think LB and Miss Nicks would have naturally out-performed Henley and Frey, and with LB's competitive edge along with SN's crowd-pleasing stage presence, The Eagles would've looked dull in comparison, because they just play note-for-note what the albums sounded like, they were never performers, in my opinion. So, Natalie seems to be 'a performer', maybe KU seems to be, too. But still, they aren't on the level of The Eagles, as Fleetwood Mac is. I think Henley et all can stand being outperformed by lesser stars, but they would've hated for Stevie and Lindsey to wind up stealing their same thunder. It's ok for the 'new kids' like KU and The Chicks.
So glad Fleetwood Mac is not doing the tour. Notice how The Eagles didn't have the balls to maybe do a co-headlining tour with Aerosmith, newly regrouped and actually their own peers?
It's lame. The Eagles headlining a yee-haw country music tour. Pus*ies :)

For one tour, Cher used to close her shows with Heartache Tonight and she was so much better at it than the Eagles. Yeah, Natalie could bring down the house doing that one to close the show with the Eagles. I can get chills imagining it.

eagles teamed up w dixie chicks and keith urban... i bought some tix for the show at the meadowlands june 10 - in fact a few too many tix and have been having a hard time getting rid of them- even below face value, as it seems the venue now even dropping prices to try and sell tix, so i went to one of the eagle fan sites ( no where as polished as THE LEDGE) and see that concerts planned in both philadelphia and hershey for mid june were cxld because of poor ticket sales - not good

that said , i think a concert w both Fleetwood Mac and eagles would have probably sold better than just eagles and whoever

Well the Eagles seem to always be touring. Their album came out almost 3 years ago and they're still going on it. So maybe that has something to do with the lack of interest.

Since I'm probably one of the few ledgies on here that loves country music along with Stevie Nicks and FM.
I like The Dixie Chicks and KU,I went to see KU last year ,His show was ok,but it sounded like a rock concert.I think he played louder then Stevie and FM.
I think if the Fleetwood Mac country version of Rumours if it happens would of pulled off on this combo tour would of been a sell out.I can see Lindsey teaming up with KU on "Go your own way" Stevie teaming up with again with the Dixie Chicks with Landslide. Stevie and Don could sneak in some solo tunes like "Leather and Lace"

"I" would be the OTHER country music loving Ledgie. Love me some Dixie Chicks(honestly, other than FM, Dixie Chicks are the only female artists I listen to), but meh on Keith Urban. I got his Live dvd, and was incredibly bored by it(on the other hand, I've got all the DC's dvds, they freakin' rock!).

On the rock concert volume issue, yes, most of the new country, is barely even country at all, musically, lyrically, or production wise. I do sound for a lot of these guys. Jason Aldean did two AC/DC covers!!! I mean COME THE FU*K ON!!!!! AC/DC???? Fu*k you, Jason Aldean! If you think you're country, you're full of sh*t!

BTW, if you like country country, omg, get the David Nail CD!!! A friend gave it to me, two weeks ago, and I've listened to it NON STOP since. I did monitors for him Friday night, and it was an incredible show! He's my new favorite artist.

In my opinion, country music- since the 90's-- has approximated the feel of rock and pop music, there aren't many new rock stars, but there seems to be tons of new country stars, and they are now promoted, marketed, the same way the rock acts of the 70s were- tons of media saturation, lots of radio airplay, and the acts play the big stadiums.
I don't dislike or like country music, to me, a good voice or a good song can transcend genre, but I don't really appreciate how country has become the force that rock once was and the country touring bands, in the worst case scenario, sometimes border on 'This Is Spinal Tap' special effects on stage.
Someone wrote that this Eagles tour is tanking in some markets? I think they've kind of worn out their welcome in the big dollar arenas, haven't they been doing this since 'Hell Freezes Over' circa 1994? Sixteen YEARS is a long time to milk 'we're baaack!!' Though, to the credit of The Eagles, they did release a well-received cd of new music 'Long Road...Eden' whatever- I have the ltd. edition red copy with some bonus tracks, or maybe it's just deluxe packaging- but I've never made it past five songs on the cd, it just didn't hold my interest, but that's probably ADD, I'll spin it again!

I like country!! :D Little known fact (outside of a few friends) about me there for you all  But yeah, I actually got pretty excited about the whole "Stevie doing a country version of Rumours" thing and I for one hope she does.

That and the fact that people are tired of paying $200 for a ticket these days!

Perhaps it was not such a good idea to have this kind of concert on a Thursday night, especially when the show starts at 4:30! I can see why Fleetwood Mac bailed- Mama doesn't get out of bed until after Oprah is finished.

In addition to the 2-for-1 deal, I saw front row seats in the top level of the stadium for $20. Wow. For a triple bill of arena-sized acts, that's pretty incredible- haven't seen ticket prices like that since the 80's. I mean, parking probably costs more than that. I would maybe consider checking this out if I only had some reassurance that Keith Urban was going on first and that I would have time to take public transit out to the stadium after work in time to catch some of the DC (supposedly there is a direct rail link from NY Penn??). It's a brand new stadium too, so that alone is worth checking out as well. Or would I rather stay home and watch the Real Housewives of New York City reunion? Decisions, decisions...

I'm not a big Eagles fan....though it's possible I'm a bigger fan than I think I am. I've heard all their big hits, but I haven't heard any of their albums. I've maybe heard Hotel California once or twice. But I have heard Long Road Out of Eden a good 5 or 6 times and I really enjoy it. Sure it's got its filler as most double albums do, but there's a lot to like on it.

Oh...I WANTED to hate Long Road Out Of Eden...I really did...but, damn it, I loved it (I don't think there's a "filler tune" on the entire thing)....just like I love ALL the Eagles' studio albums (not nearly as much as Fleetwood Mac, but I occasionally go on these Eagles binges and I end up playing every album all the way through a couple of times each)....I just think they SUCK THE BIG BANANA live. I saw 'em back when Hotel California was being released (of course, why they decided to book Los Angeles for four nights two months BEFORE the album's release, and not come back afterwards, has still got me scratchin' my head) Sure, they sound "just like the record" in concert, but what's the fun in that? (for the artists themselves, much less the audience!!) BOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRINGGGGGGGGG!! Talk about your big ol' yawner concert. :(

And to toss in my 2 cents on this topic: I don't mind country music...I "drank from the Kool-Aid" back in the '90s and played in a couple of country cover bands. :o Have to say, I made more money playing country for those 5 years (and played more & BETTER gigs) than I have playing rock or blues in the other 40 years of my musical career combined. (and that INCLUDES touring with a rock band around Western Canada for two years in the '80s opening for the likes of The Guess Who's Burton Cummings on occasion) Problem is, the "country scene" in Southern California dried up quicker than a spilled beer in the Sahara during August. :distress: Oh, well...got me back into playing music closer to my soul...The Blues.
