I don't know about that. I think for the most part we are very welcoming of newbies. We all seem to help them get their right foot forward in the world that is Fleetwood Mac fandom!

HAYLEY!!!!
and by the way - - - don't 100% believe it when people tell you that the only reason Seven Wonders was created was "because The Ledge was down"
Dude, you couldn't be more wrong. I was probably among the first 10 to sign up to 7W, it was completely created because The Ledge went down for a few weeks in October 2005. I remember all the emails going back and forth about it. If you went over to 7W in 2005, just a couple of months after you joined here, it would have been when the board was just created and you should remember all the first threads were about what had happened to The Ledge, people discussing when it would come back and continuations of threads started here. Plus all the first members were Ledgies: check out my "Who's Missing?" thread, one of the very first over there, basically a roll call of Ledgies. The reason it stayed around though is because it filled a niche, one that probably the Buckingham Nicks board and Burnish filled before.

I know a lot of people who told me through p.m., "Thank GOD another Fleetwood Mac board has been created; because things were starting to get SO nasty on The Ledge!" Like I said though, that was back then - years ago. But yes, in the opinion of some, it really had gotten THAT mean. Not like Seven Wonders hasn't had some bumps, also.

One other thing I'd like to mention, if I may - - - In my opinion, there used to be a feeling among many "Ledgies" that The Ledge was the ENTIRE Fleetwood Mac fan community, when nothing could be farther from the truth. (And yes, I think that was very much true at times on Seven Wonders too.) I think that feeling has gone away, and I think that that's a very good thing. There's currently 4100 members; they've sold literally hundreds of millions of records, all told. Maybe it's sort of "representative of" the Fleetwood Mac fan community, but it's a wonderful PART of it, not all of it.
Just a thought that's meant in a "constructive" way. :)

That may be so, but you are completely confusing why the board was created with why it stuck around. It doesn't make an ounce of sense to imply it was created because this board was too mean when the most vocal Ledgies were the first members there. It basically WAS The Ledge to begin with, just under a different name. The reason it stuck around after The Ledge came back online is something different altogether.

That's also not true. There's always been other lots of boards dedicated to Fleetwood Mac with big communities. Off the top of my head there's been FM Legacy, the Buckingham Nicks board, Fleetwood Mac UK forum, Fireflies, Burnish.net, The Chain and Seven Wonders to name but a few (not to mention The Black Ledge and FM Drama). The Ledge has never been the sole community, there's always been alternatives. 7W imo is a combination of the younger posters that Burnish used to attract and the shippers that BN.net used to attract.

Yes, but very honestly, there were several times - and again, this is YEARS back that we're talking about here - - - when some people on the Ledge would make posts that essentially boiled down to, "Most ledgies think 'A' therefore all Fleetwood Mac fans think 'A.'" Or, "Stevie most likely hates 'B', because most Ledgies think she does and we know her better than anyone." I don't mean in a way that was just fun speculation, I mean in a way that tried to put down, in a mean, rude way, anyone that felt anything else might be true. I realize it's probably just a minority of posters that acted that way, but trust me, I saw it happen quite a few times. Again, not in recent years though.
It was something that USED to happen - more than seldomly, and it wigged me out a little bit, that's all. Peace! :D

I've always basically been a lurker so I'm very forgettable as far as Ledgie's go, but it did use to be pretty fun reading the posts around here. The perv thread?
I remember you. Long curly hair if I recall? Nice to see you. And that thread was classic.

Hi Hayley!
Well, I hope this won't come out the wrong way, but when I first signed up to The Ledge - in the summer of 2005 - I ended up feeling pretty quickly that this place was nasty - that there were a lot of mean people who lived for no other purpose than to make snide comments, etc. - a lot of trolls. And that things were very "clique-like." I went on over to Seven Wonders at that point - and by the way - - - don't 100% believe it when people tell you that the only reason Seven Wonders was created was "because The Ledge was down" - - - I wasn't the only one who felt this way - not by a long shot. But I understood that the board was just going through "a phase" and that the trolls would lose interest after awhile; and in my opinion that's what's happened - and I really do feel that in general things have gotten MUCH nicer here in the past few years! :D
What trolls? The only trolls I can think of are Black Widow, that crazy Rose chick (Rosegarden? Rosebriar? Can't remember) and 1/2 Insane. None of them were around all that long, so "lost interest?" I think they were all banned, so it's not like they had much of a choice.
Yeah, but that's NOT why it was created.

I have to disagree. If everyone thought the same thing, there would have been be no argument or debate here. And we never had any shortage of differing opinions, that's for sure.
