Stevie Nicks wrote an essay for Taylor Swift, saying, "the female rock-n'-roll-country-pop songwriter is back, and her name is Taylor Swift."

"It made me feel so special and she's been my hero for so long," said Swift of Nicks essay. "To have your hero write things about you like that, it's just a wonderful day when I read that."

As for Taylor, she actually talked about the subject at hand -- being featured in Time's annual list of influential minds:

"It was amazing to read the article that was written about me. Stevie Nicks is absolutely my hero, so for her to have written such wonderful, glowing things, honestly I got kind of emotional reading it."

Flashback Friday: Dress like Stevie Nicks

Aldo Kaucher Cuff, $15
The Sak Studded Drawstring Purse, $26
Jeffrey Campbell The Braid Boot, $182
Deepa Gurnani Headband, $64
Lace Maxi Dress, $90
Juicy Couture Earrings, $68
Bailey 44 Blaze Shrug, $88
I know the boots are way over budget, but maybe you can use your little end of the month fund on them, they're just too fab and incredibly Stevie.

Stevie Nicks owns a very special place in my heart. Now she's no Siouxsie in my life, but she's definitely in my top ten of influential women. Stevie has an inspirational story--she's very human. She's gone through very many trials a lot of people do, but she's one of those "untouchable" rock stars.

First of all, let's start with the fact that Stevie has a singing voice not regularly accepted. Put her on the American Idols of today and she'd be kicked off right away. Her entrance into Fleetwood Mac was only due to Lindsey Buckingham telling members they were a package deal. They'd only wanted him because of his fantastic song-writing skills. From the beginning Stevie was a reject of sorts. Stevie reached fame with Fleetwood Mac, though many people know starting a band with a spouse is almost definitely a mistake. Both Stevie and Lindsey wrote songs about their breakup including Lindsey's Go Your Own Way, one of Fleetwood's most popular hits. He brought up both her cheating and drug abuse, though Stevie denied the cheating.

Stevie dealt with cocaine and tranquilizer addiction through a great deal of her fame, and from what I've read in articles she was high most of the time. She did eventually overcome her addictions somewhere around 1998.

I actually saw her on the Crystal Visions tour (2007) and it was spectacular! Stevie sang Landslide and Edge of Seventeen, among others. Stevie definitely puts on a great show, and I suggest any of you who get a chance to see her.

The girl who wrote this is right and she's wrong. Stevie would mos def be booted off American Idol if she were an unknown contestant & Lindsey was hired because of his guitar playing, not his songwriting skillz. That was a good guess on her part though.

Discover the Magical Power of Pulling Heartstrings …It’s Mindblowing!
May 8th, 2010 | Author: superhatian

I wish you never have to go through that kind of pain!

Last week, I was on the breath-taking island of Puerto Rico at a resort on the beach enjoying the crashing waves of the ocean and the cool breeze. If you don’t know by now, I am an observer. I love to observe people and their behavior.

Maybe I have been living under a rock. But I had no idea that so many people had tattoos on their bodies. Honestly, I am not a tattoo fan. The way I see it, I probably would go along with any trend, as long as it wasn’t something that was permanent.

I would want to be sure that I could get rid of it if my belief changed, and/or after I had realized what I had done was silly and stupid. But that’s just me.

Although I would never have a tattoo put on myself, I admit that many of the ones I saw were really beautiful and true works of art. And so, now my tattoo antenna was up. Suddenly I began to notice people with tattoos everywhere. It’s almost as if the trend just started.

This week, a woman at the post office took me back to Puerto Rico. She was standing in front of me in line. And guess what? Yes, she had a tattoo on the right side of the back of her shoulder.

It was a great picture of Stevie Nicks. Oh, and for those of you who don’t know who Stevie Nicks is, well, we have something in common. I had no idea who in the world she was until my waiting-in-line companion told me.

Without getting too into it, Stevie Nicks is a light rock singer who was hot in the 60’s and 70’s. Now the big question: Why in the world someone would go through so much pain to tattoo a total stranger on his or her back? Can you guess? Well, I can.

It all comes down to emotion. In this case, it’s pleasure. Emotion is a little word that rules our world. I bet you that the lady tattooed Stevie on her shoulder because of the way Stevie’s music makes her feel.

It’s obvious that it must be a deep-seeded emotion. It was so deep that the woman made a lifetime commitment to carry the photo of a stranger on her back! Now that is a true fan!

Would you like for others to carry you, perhaps in their hearts and minds for a lifetime? Well, go out and start making people feel great and you will have friends for life.

You see, you don’t have to be a doctor in order to operate on someone’s heart! Have you ever noticed how some people change their colors when you shower them with high praise? I am telling you, a chain of chemical reactions take place at the moment a “heart is touched.” Try it and observe.

Emotion is what makes the world go round. But keep in mind that I am talking about pleasurable emotion. And with repetition, it can undoubtedly cause others to want to tattoo you on their backs.

Right now, no matter where you are, you have the power to make someone feel good. And it doesn’t cost one red cent to make that happen. All you have to do is to give an elevating compliment or do an unexpected favor.

It’s unlikely that this one act of kindness would create that effect. But with repetition, you can definitely achieve the same warm result.

The opposite is also true. If we keep pinching others’ self confidence or verbally abuse them, they will tattoo us on their jerk list. What I really want to say is

their sh _ t list. You get my point.

Let me know when someone tattoos your face on his or her back.

I wish you incredible success!

From a Goldmine article on The Runaways

http://www.goldminemag.com/features/the-runaways-bad-reputation

In winter 1977, The Runaways entered Larrabee Studios in Hollywood to do Waitin’ For The Night. Vicki Tischer-Blue took over on bass, and Joan Jett became lead singer. One evening, Bingenheimer and I hand-clapped behind Joan on the track “Gotta Get Out Tonight.” Fleetwood Mac was in an adjoining studio. Stevie Nicks and Suzi Quatro visited a couple recording sessions, while Bryan Ferry and Jerry Hall also checked out Larrabee and Fowley in action.

STEVIE NICKS ADDS INITIAL SUMMER DATES
5/13/2010

Stevie Nicks has announced three East Coast summer dates for late August -- August 25th in Verona, New York at the Event Center At Turning Stone Resort Casino; August 27th in Atlantic City, New Jersey at the Mark G. Etess Arena; and August 28th in Mashantucket, Connecticut at MGM Grand At Foxwoods. Although no other dates have been posted, more shows are expected to be announced.

After six years of massive hits with Fleetwood Mac, 1981's Bella Donna solidified her position as a major mover in '80s rock. Nicks says that she hopes that her decades of singing, writing and performing have helped inspire future generations of women to do the same: "I hope that I'm a part of the reason why they make music, you know? I always wanted to be inspirational to other singers, and I wanted to be a success story for women where they could say, 'Well, she made it. I could make it, too.' It seems that somehow I've managed to do that. I never really tried to do that, but it seems that that has happened."

Nicks has been recording a joint project with the Eurythmics' Dave Stewart. Little is known about the joint set except for the fact that violinist Ann Marie Calhoun has contributed to some tracks. There's been no word as to when new album will be released.

Emily Gould has come a long way since her stand off with Jimmy Kimmel on CNN. The former Gawker editor, who delivered an unvarnished account of the Kimmel episode and her internet overshares in a 2007 cover story in The New York Times Magazine, has just published a new collection of essays, And The Heart Says Whatever, about life as a twenty-something woman in the digital age. Felicity Loughrey, a regular contributor to The Inside Source, eBay's new style magazine, recently caught up with the blogger turned author. The following is an excerpt of that interview.

"If one 23-year-old who has a Tumblr and lives in an outer-borough of New York likes my book, well, I'm satisfied," Emily Gould says of her new memoir, And The Heart Says Whatever. In it, she falls in and out of love with a boy in a band and skips between jobs in a bar, at a book publisher and at the Gawker Media empire.

The title is borrowed from the Stevie Nicks song "Think About It," and to say Gould is a fan is an understatement. She's currently searching eBay for old Fleetwood Mac memorabilia. "I would love a Rumours concert tee, really faded and worn out," she says, noting she shops the online marketplace for vintage clothes and shoes after she makes her way "through my usual list of websites and Cute Boys With Cats on Tumblr." Her favorite purchase: "I had a really excellent pair of Frye boots, a specific type that is hand-tooled with heels weighted for horseback riding. They just completely bit the dust, so I spent an obsessive few months on eBay and found a new pair. They were $60 and they usually resell for $200."

Gould, who hosts the culinary web show "Cooking the Books" on Vimeo, is also hunting "a stainless steel saucepan--kind of a boring item, but I recently scorched my old one by boiling water and then forgetting about it and falling asleep. I'm lucky I didn't burn my house down."

Friday: Night of 1,000 Stevies
Whose tambourine will reign supreme at the 20th annual Nicks-a-Thon?

By ELIZABETH BOUGEROL
Updated 11:45 AM EDT, Thu, May 13, 2010

It's one thing to buy someone's music and declare yourself a fan. It's quite another to worship a musician so wholly and completely, you organize a massive costumed tribute-fest to her and then keep it going for 20 straight years.
Welcome to Jackie Factory NYC’s Night of 1,000 Stevies, the biggest Stevie Nicks fan tribute event on the planet.

The name doesn't lie: If history serves, on Friday, the Highline Ballroom will be crawling with Stevies of every shape and form at NOTS 20: Sisters of the Moon, a night of waist-length blonde tresses, doves (white-winged, naturally), gauzy shawls, and easily the largest congregation of tambourines outside of captivity.

Fans will twirl and shiver to performances by the likes of burlesque mavens Amber Ray and Darlinda Just Darlinda, torch chanteur/performance artist Justin Bond, a klatch of all-Nicks/Fleetwood DJs and more. The night culminates in the always-epic Battle of 1,000 Stevies, when Stevies of every age, gender and stripe face off to determine who'll be crowned be the witchiest, twirliest and downright Stevie-est of all.

Details:

But the other major mention on my bucket list is to meet someone special. I never cared to meet a movie star or a famous politician. All I want is to meet, musical icon, Stevie Nicks. Her real name is Stephanie Lynn Nicks and she lives in Arizona. This incredible song writer and singer captured my soul with every song she’s ever sung and every lyric of hers I heard Her history of illness, addiction, recovery and renewal has also captivated me and I would like to tell her so.

Since I’ve been a journalist and writer of books for most of my adult life, I would know how to interview her, but that’s not what I want to do. I just want to talk with her, perhaps over cups of coffee or tea, learn from her and tell her how much she and her work matter to me, and so many others. Are either of these desires likely to occur? The money to go to the peaceful part of the Middle East is not available. The ability to contact Stevie Nicks to interest her in a conversation is even less likely. Why would she want to take time to speak with a stranger? Surely she’d worry if she was being stalked, since it happens so much to those who are public figures.

My gemini twin
"I have to do something else besides just rock and roll. Rock and roll is wonderful and I love it, but it's not everything. And it's important for me to do other things. It always has been, though. I can't live on just one. I'm a gemini." - Stevie on why she practiced ballet.

Well there you go. Turns out Stevie's birthday is 5 days before mine, on May 26th. (Mine's the 31st. Aaron's is the 27th and Mark's is the 22nd... guess we'll add Stevie to the list of honorees for our Gemini Potluck Party.)

And by the way, with that quote? I am Sold. Officially obsessed with Stevie Nicks. Scratch my entire birthday entry down there and just get me her biography, discography, whatever you can find. I'm diving in. There's something about her that I understand. Yes.

'Gypsy,' Fleetwood Mac
This 1982 song originally began as a Stevie Nicks solo effort about her early days with bandmate and former bed mate Lindsey Buckingham. But as her friend Robin Anderson became ill with leukemia, the line Nicks had included for her -- "I still see your bright eyes" -- became much more powerful, and Nicks saved the tune for Fleetwood Mac. Anderson died two days after giving birth to a baby boy.

While Stevie Nicks had the most recognizable voice in Fleetwood Mac, there was no guarantee she could craft the same kind of pop-rock magic without the help of the Mac’s guiding musical force, Lindsey Buckingham. As such, Bella Donna found her emerging surprisingly strongly as a solo talent. Part of the credit goes to Tom Petty, who gave her an excellent song in “Stop Dragging My Heart Around” (and duets with her on it). But other high points are Nicks’s own creations, including the urgently rocking “Edge of Seventeen” and the country-tinged ballad “Leather and Lace” (a duet with Don Henley). A few tunes here are forgettable, but overall Nicks started her solo career on a high note. –Peter Blackstock

"There’s a passage in Bill Drummond’s The 17 where he recalls traveling to Los Angeles in the mid 1980s, ostensibly to oversee the work of a hair metal band in his capacity as an A&R man for WEA. While trying to find the group in a labyrinthian studio complex, Drummond stumbled across a bloated Stevie Nicks, who was dancing eyes-closed to one of her own songs, lost to herself and the world. There are many styles covered on this, the first album by Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti since signing to 4AD, but that glassy Fleetwood Mac production, which flourished on Rumours, gloriously saturated their sound on Tusk, and continued to be an obsession for Lindsey Buckingham on later hits such as ‘Big Love’, is glazed all over Before Today."

Boca Raton, FL (Vocus/PRWEB ) June 9, 2010 -- The Common Thread Project founder Jerry Gladstone is honored to announce that a new group of people have been added to the project, including some very high profile celebrities.

With the help of a close associate, Gladstone has been able to include interviews with the following people in The Common Thread book: Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, “King of Motown” Smokey Robinson, Fleetwood Mac singer-songwriter Stevie Nicks, Eagles guitarist and singer Joe Walsh, 5-time Grammy Award nominee rapper Kid Rock, rock musician Chris Isaak and Academy Award-winning actor Quentin Tarantino.

I want to help people reach their fullest potential. The lives these people have led and how they have overcome their obstacles can be a tremendous asset in helping others reach their goals. “I created the project to provide people with the power to empower themselves and to give back to the community,” said Gladstone. “I want to help people reach their fullest potential. The lives these people have led and how they have overcome their obstacles can be a tremendous asset in helping others reach their goals.”

According to Gladstone, The Common Thread Project is two-fold. First, a book, titled, “The Common Thread.” The book will gather insight and inspiration, and will capture the emotion and mindset of more than 200 successful, well-known motivated individuals who have shared with Gladstone, either through business or personal relationships or one-on-one interviews, what it takes to overcome everyday adversities and obstacles. Because of their status and level of success, most people are unaware that these people have had to overcome the very same issues and hardships that they face as well. The information captured by Gladstone cannot be found when you “Google” these celebrities. He has tapped into the inner workings and psyche of each person he interviewed.

CD Review: White Widow Shows Us Her "Black Heart"

Musical artist, White Widow, whose name comes from the Stevie Nicks' song "Gold Dust Woman," is making a impact in music. Her latest release "Black Heart" is her most vulnerable album to date and is available now.

The album's title track "Black Heart" shows White Widow's soft side until the chorus comes crashing in with a pounding drumbeat and pleading vocals. "Quitter" shows off the White Widow's rock attitude, but her voice seems to take a backseat to the music in the overall sound mix. At times, the music takes away from her powerful voice. White Widow performs a passionate cover of her idol, Steve Nicks' song "Lady From The Mountain." The song "Warriors" carries a nice groove, but lacks the punch needed to make this song stand-out. At times, her voice draws comparisons to Tori Amos with her soft, but powerful singing style as evident in the songs "Strong Again" and "In Your Life."

Her music has been licensed to MTV and featured in numerous movies and television shows. She has toured for the past few years, opening for the likes of Sandra Bernhard and guitarist Steve Mazur of Our Lady Peace. She's performed at the legendary CBGB and SXSW Festival and is currently on tour on the east coast. She will be performing at the City Ale House in Danbury, CT on June 18. This obscurity issue runs much deeper. I’ll bet there are graphic Warhol paintings that neither of us has seen — in the ’60s, The Factory was too busy hosting Quaalude parties to worry about proper archival procedures. Imagine what might lurk out there: napkin drawings of Marilyn eating out her one-night lover Joan Crawford, or even lipstick monsterpieces of Mick Jagger rimming Stevie Nicks!

3) Toilet paper: Over or under?

Over. Absolutely over. I'm very, very firm about this

4) If you could wish any one celebrity completely and utterly out of existence--POOF!-- who would it be?

I was going to say Heidi Montag, but she's not really a celebrity and her 15 minutes are up soon.

So I'm going with Tom Cruise. I'm sure I don't have to explain why.

8) It's 1979 and you are a heterosexual man. (Or a homosexual woman, actually. Either one. You choose.) You can have a steamy one-night stand with Linda Ronstadt, Stevie Nicks, Tina Turner, or Olivia Newton John. Which one?

Ooooh, tough call between Stevie and Tina. I think Tina would scare me so bad (but in a real nice way) that I'd have trouble stepping *up* to the challenge, so to speak.

Steve is probably a little freaky. Ok, I'll go Stevie

Your really into Batman and I think Superman even more and Fleetwood Mac your like border line creepy about the Mac tell us about this and is there anything you like more than Superman and Stevie Nicks?

It's all because of Fast Times At Ridgemont High, my favorite movie of all time! There's this scene where Stacy is waiting for Damone to pick her up to go get an abortion and they're playing this obscure Stevie Nicks song in the background. I watched it so many times I started to love that song and eventually found myself in a very intense love affair with Stevie and the Mac. It hasn't ended yet... One of the best presents I ever got from my wife was the 45 of "Go Your Own Way" with the original version of "Silver Springs" on the b side! As for comics, I love Batman waaaaay more than Supes. His mythology is way more intriguing and multi-leveled. I'm hard pressed to think of anything I love more than the Mac or Bats.

“Black Heart” is White Widow’s third album. Several tracks from her first, “No Wood To Knock On,” were featured on the horror movie “Ice Queen.” The White Widow name was inspired by the song “Gold Dust Woman” by Stevie Nicks in which Nicks refers to a black widow. “I am heavily influenced by performers like Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, P.J. Harvey, Sandra Bernhard and Courtney Love. These artists are raw and don’t hold anything back.”

On “Black Heart,” White Widow’s vocals do have a lovelorn rawness to them, and the rock can be searing. Very skillfully so, in that the guitar playing (by White Widow, of course) is extremely good. As a producer she’s not self-indulgent. Once the songs — including a cover of a Stevie Nicks demo, “Lady from the Mountain,” that was never released — have said what they have to say, White Widow doesn’t waste any time lingering, moving on to the next track at full speed ahead.

She’s one of those performers who you suspect could have a big following, and you’re somewhat surprised that she doesn’t quite yet.

Stevie and Hamburger Helper

Here's one of those crazy coincidences: I was watching this interview with Stevie Nicks, and she mentioned using Hamburger Helper back before the money came in. And I'm pretty sure I've never heard of this product in my life before (though it's clear I would have, had I been American). Then I stop the interview to get my own chow, I turn on an episode of Family Guy I've never seen before, and within three minutes there's a substantial segment with Hamburger Helper! Weeeeeird. I was freaked out! Well, not really, but mildly amusing.

In 2007, Lightspeed Champion's Devonte Hynes put up a Green Day covers album featuring Florence + the Machine's Florence Welch on vocals. Welch's contributions pulled the catchy melodies of Green Day's Nimrod to the forefront. Since they're home recordings there are no videos, but it's cool to hear Florence as a Green Day fan. Another fan of flowy, woodlands wear is the gold dust woman, Stevie Nicks, who dated Don Henley during the Rumours era (while she was also dating the Fleetwood Mac's tour promote)r. For the two years that Nicks and Henley were together, they made coke mountains out of molehills, but also managed to record the 1981 classic "Leather and Lace."

The next week Stevie’s concert tour landed in Melbourne and it coincided with a Melbourne show for Cyndi Lauper who was one of the biggest stars in the world at that time.

Rock n' Roll Myths: Stevie Nicks' Unorthodox Drug Technique

While rock stars have long been known to engage in reckless and excessive behavior, every once in a while a story arises that is so out there and unbelievable that fans are left to wonder whether it is truth or simply shameless self-promotion.

Such is the case with our latest Rock n' Roll myth. As the story goes, songstress Stevie Nicks became so addicted to cocaine during the '70s and '80s that she developed a tolerance to it, creating a hole in her nasal passage in the process. As a result, the desperate singer was said to have given a roadie a straw, and instructions to blow the drug where the sun don't shine.

Sure, it sounds farfetched and pretty reprehensible, but could this tale of depravity have really taken place? Fleetwood Mac earned a reputation during those decades as heavy drug users, but would Nicks really have gone to such trouble? The sheer shock value of the story could just as easily be a rumor started by bitter fans or a jealous lover.

In an interview with British magazine Q, Nicks addressed the legend, categorically denying all the rumors. "You know, I heard that [myth] too... But of course that never, ever happened," the singer said. "That is an absurd statement. It's not true. Maybe that nasty rumor came from the fact that people knew I had such a big hole in my nose, which of course didn’t stop me from doing cocaine one little bit. The hole in my nose is this big (Nicks sizes up a large hole on her right nostril, slightly smaller than her eye). “I have very delicate tissue, so it ate away my nose. It’s so painful. I curse the day I ever did cocaine. Nothing really works right in my head now.”

While Nicks rejected the notion that she ever ingested cocaine in such a fashion, many fans and critics still believe the story is open for debate. After all, Fleetwood Mac's greatest success came with an album entitled Rumours, written while the band was undergoing a period of extreme tension and interpersonal upheaval. Secrets were made, and romantic entanglements ripped through the band. While the Stevie Nicks myth may just be a far-exaggerated twist on an actual event, we're curious to know what other dark secrets are lying in the Fleetwood Mac vault.

I love to observe people and their behavior.<p>Maybe I have been living under a rock. But I had no idea that so many people had tattoos on their bodies. Honestly’ I am not a tattoo fan. The way I see it’ I probably would go along with any trend’ as long as it wasn’t something that was permanent.<p>I would want to be sure that I could get rid of it if my belief changed’ and/or after I had realized what I had done was silly and stupid. But that’s just me.<p>Although I would never have a tattoo put on myself’ I admit that many of the ones I saw were really beautiful and true works of art. And so’ now my tattoo antenna was up. Suddenly I began to notice people with tattoos everywhere. It’s almost as if the trend just started.<p>This week’ a woman at the post office took me back to Puerto Rico. She was standing in front of me in line. And guess what? Yes’ she had a tattoo on the right side of the back of her shoulder.<p>It was a great picture of Stevie Nicks. Oh’ and for those of you who don’t know who Stevie Nicks is’ well’ we have something in common. I had no idea who in the world she was until my waiting-in-line companion told me.<p>Without getting too into it’ Stevie Nicks is a light rock singer who was hot in the 60’s and 70’s. Now the big question: Why in the world someone would go through so much pain to tattoo a total stranger on his or her back? Can you guess? Well’ I can.<p>It all comes down to emotion. In this case’ it’s pleasure. Emotion is a little word that rules our world. I bet you that the lady tattooed Stevie on her shoulder because of the way Stevie’s music makes her feel.<p>It’s obvious that it must be a deep-seeded emotion. It was so deep that the woman made a lifetime commitment to carry the photo of a stranger on her back! Now that is a true fan!<p>Would you like for others to carry you’ perhaps in their hearts and minds for a lifetime? Well’ go out and start making people feel great and you will have friends for life.<p>You see’ you don’t have to be a doctor in order to operate on someone’s heart! Have you ever noticed how some people change their colors when you shower them with high praise? I am telling you’ a chain of chemical reactions take place at the moment a “heart is touched.” Try it and observe.<p>Emotion is what makes the world go round. But keep in mind that I am talking about pleasurable emotion. And with repetition’ it can undoubtedly cause others to want to tattoo you on their backs.<p>Right now’ no matter where you are’ you have the power to make someone feel good. And it doesn’t cost one red cent to make that happen.

"Do you know how to pick up the pieces,
and go home?"

Rumors was one of those albums that I remember hearing in my house as a child. I think it was one of my Mom's favorites for a while, and it became one of mine, as well. It is still one of my favorite albums of all-time, one that I can listen to from start to finish, side one to side two, and completely enjoy.

This song, though, always stood out to me.

It is one of those powerful songs that I like to throw on when I'm feeling weak, or heartbroken, turn up as loud as my speakers (and ears) can stand, and sing-a-long. The lyrics, and the feel of the song, feels like strength, survival and freedom to me - and I think that is why it is one of my "turn to when I need strength" songs.

Especially the line I quoted above.

Stevie Nicks is one of my musical heroes, which perhaps I'll one day craft a list about - her voice, her style, her lyrics, the way she has survived, and evolved.

I also love Hole's cover of this song.

Stevie Nicks - Edge of Seventeen (1981): It’s funny, I am four songs into this and three are from 1981, what a total CHEESE year! I think if you were to poll many men my age, they would admit to having huge crushes on Stevie Nicks. This is from her first solo album, Bella Donna. A year later, HBO featured Nicks in concert. She danced around in floor length, chiffon skirts that held her breasts tightly–all of these combined to create 13 year old madness! Needless to say, I watched it whenever it was on TV. Did I mention that I think this song kicks ass?

Dave Stewart told ethrill.net today that he is not only working in the studio together with Mike Campbell (Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers) on the next Stevie Nicks album, but also with the help of Mick Fleetwood!

As reported here in the past months Stewart and Nicks have written and recorded numerous songs together already including at least one duet (see previous news posts about the collaboration and listen to a first snippet here).

Stevie Nicks and Mick Fleetwood are musical partners in “Fleetwood Mac” (“Rumours”, “Tusk”) since 1974 when Nicks joined the legendary band. Although she had as successful solo career as well, they re-joined over the past decades again and again.

The writing and recording sessions for Dave Stewart’s upcoming solo album are going to start soon in Nashville but at the moment he is still in the studio with Stevie, Mike and Mick.

Though Fleetwood Mac chanteuse Stevie Nicks enjoyed name supremacy on this track, the fact that the song is a Tom Petty-Mike Campbell composition is about as surprising as a twenty-something celebrity meltdown these days. Petty and the Heartbreakers always put a distinctive stamp on their performances, but this track screams Campbell and Benmont Tench before the first bar is complete. It’s a shame that this tune is not widely seen as a classic from the band’s repertoire, as Nicks’ presence may enhance the production but certainly never exceeds what the Heartbreakers can do on their own. At around 1981, Petty was at the peak of his melodic sorcery, and this song continues to enchant as freshly as ever.

I must protest the clue for STEVIE Nicks as she, (yes I had to Google to find out who this was), probably has never seen a record. CDs yes, records no.

People don't think of him as an R&B drummer.

I have this collection of stuff that people give me, these outtakes. It frustrates Jimny [laughs]. And one is just the drums of "Whole Lotta Love" for a few bars. And it's funky. It's not rock. It's a funk feel, and nobody ever got that. All of his favorite music was in more of a folk and funk thing. I remember he loved the Hall and Oates album, Abandoned Luncheonette, with "She's Gone" on it. He loved that kind of vibe. I got the chance to tell Stevie Nicks at the Ahmet Ertegun memorial [in New York] that my father loved Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. Now when I listen back to it, it makes me smile, because it reminds me of sitting with Dad, going to motorcross races, with my bike on the back of a Range Rover

Excerpt from a All Shade Zone blog post on Beyonce

http://www.allshadezone.com/about

A certain flop blog thought that mentioning Rob Fusari would help them score some points. When in actuality Rob Fusari only shows that Bey does give props where props are due. Rob wanted to RE-play the infamous Stevie Nicks guitar riff sampled on “Bootylicious” so he can get credit for it. Instead, Bey and Mathew opted to use the actual sample and give credit where it was due, to the originator Stevie Nicks.

Never was there any question about her writing the lyrics it was simply Rob being mad they wouldn’t let him take credit for Stevie’s instrumental sample which meant less money for Rob [ain't that the reason that he's really mad??]

In the '90s, you interviewed your friend and fellow musician Stevie Nicks for Interview magazine. I'm going to turn some of those questions you asked her around onto you.

Oh, God [laughs].

Did you ever know that you'd be famous?

No. And she and I laughed about that because she always she knew that she would be famous. I was the kid that saw myself as a member of the Rolling Stones. I wanted to be Keith [Richards]. I wanted to be the guy who was, like, the great musician that all the other musicians looked up to. I wanted to be that person. But as I got older, I got a sense that I needed to express myself and it dictated that I wanted to be in the front.

Does it feel full circle for you then to be in the studio and sharing the stage with Keith Richards, among countless other revered musicians?

It's so absolutely crazy to me that I even know him or that he even knows my name, so yes. It's completely surreal. And to be able to call him and ask him to play on a song of mine ... I don't know how Heaven can top that.

What's the best advice that your mother ever gave you?

The best advice my mom gave me is to remember who you are at all times. It's a real challenge for all of us to remember who we are and the essence of who we are and what it is that we believe in, and kind of always be true to that.

Last one: What's your greatest fear?

Oh, wow. I have a fear that the planet that we're leaving to our kids is going to be so damaged by the time our kids grow up, they won't be able to go out and experience a beautiful summer day or be able to get into the ocean and play. They won't understand what it's like to be connected to nature because they can't.

Congratulations on your recent second adoption, speaking of kids. What do you consider to be your biggest strength as a mother?

I guess I want to say, because of what I've gone through in my life, it's my ability to not sweat that little stuff and, hopefully, my ability to be present for them: no calling, no BlackBerry, no e-mailing. When I'm with them, I'm with them.

Has Wyatt developed his own little musical taste?

He loves Lady Gaga. He loves her! When she's on the radio, he's like, "More Gaga! More Gaga!" And I have to say, "No, it doesn't work like that." "Gaga!" And then I say, "What about Sheryl Crow?" [laughs] He listens to all kinds of music all the time.

Buxton once met former Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks, who encouraged her to pursue music.

“One of my friends told her that I was a singer,” Buxton said. “She asked me if I was good. She told me that if I believe in myself, well then it’s that belief that will take me to the top. She said that’s how she had felt when she was my age. Her words just validated my dream and made it more tangible.”

This is an excerpt from Sam Simmons' blog, The Skinny, August 7, 2010:

http://www.theskinny.co.uk/blog/6-fests-comedy-banter/470-why-are-we-doing-this

Full of deep fried food I head to the Assembly Rooms for my first show with David Quirk called The Incident. It’s a really dark, bizarre comic play about a man in a shop inappropriately touching a customer. Hilarious.

The audience is pretty full, with a heap of old people looking for a mid-afternoon laugh. They don’t laugh. Two grown men choreographing masturbation to a Stevie Nicks song is not really a Nanna’s cup of tea.

Stevie Nicks had a truly unique look along with her musical success. With a huge solo career and more famously known for working with Fleetwood Mac, her symbolic lyrics showed she was a strong female, which was few and far between in the 70′s. Her beautiful, flowing hair makes her flawless in black and white photos. Along with that, her style gave off a witchy and mystical vibe with loose and drapey dresses which had embellished lace and ruffles. And oh yeah, those clogs above are to die for. More pics after the jump!

Stevie Nicks Working On First New Album In 10 Years
Posted in: Music News
There’s no Fleetwood Mac record coming, but Stevie Nicks is working on her first album in over a decade.

She’s co-writing the album with former Eurythmics member Dave Stewart. She says it’s probably the best material she has worked on since her Bella Donna album. Nicks says it’s diverse, with ballads, rock songs, and what you would expect from her. No release date yet.

August 10, 2010 in

Currently putting together a poster for “Have your Cake and Eat it” brief and after swinging around ideas of what lovely Lady to bring to the platform (Virginia Woolf, Silvia Plath, Debby Harry, Elizabeth I, Amelia Earhart, The Bronte Sisters, Frida Khalo and many more ) I have settled on the enravelling summary of a song by Stevie Nicks, Gypsy, a favourite of mine and my mum’s. After almost a decade out of the limelight we got the opportunity to see Fleetwood Mac live at Wembly last year, and Stevie was in her element. After knowing the story and turbulent journey of the band, and her extensive solo career, to hear her explain and reminisce about the meaning behind each song before singing made the experience all the more intimate. She captivates the audience with her etherial wandering soul even now, always young (she’s 65). For me the song means a return to where you first started out, where you were first stimulated by the nature of simply creating something in your room, and sometimes you can lose that, it can be blurred. She became incredibly famous, but always felt like that material-less gypsy, content with the little things:

Here’s how she explains it:

In my Doheny house – in my English house. I just went through an experience that wasn’t particularly pleasant and I moved out of my big English bedroom into the little back bedroom that was all…the lady that owned this house had put all this French wallpaper up that was flowers and it was beautifully, beautifully done. It’s just a little tiny room and put my bed back on the floor, moved my JBLs [speakers] in there, all my plants… all my junk, everything I had into this tiny little room about as big as this sofa, you know and I just lived in there for about 3 months. And I, it was really like living back in my apartment before I joined Fleetwood Mac…it was …I’m very comfortable living in one little room with my bed on the floor and kind of lace tacked up at the windows.

That's interesting. So 'paper flowers' in Gypsy refers to flowered wallpaper. Hmm, somehow that completely went over my head since 1982. I thought Gypsy's paper flowers were just that: flowers artfully made from colored tisue paper and arranged in vases or as wall decorations. In the video, I always strained to look in the bedroom scene (where she's on the floor, that she loves) to find paper flowers somewhere. It never occurred to me to look at the wallpaper.

Duh.!

[Barry] Scott cites a song that entered the Hot 100's top 40 32 years ago this week as a contrast to today's more complex music industry.

"When 'Whenever I Call You 'Friend' ' by Kenny Loggins was released on Columbia in July 1978, Warner Bros. didn't bat an eye that one of their biggest stars was a very noticeable uncredited special guest: Stevie Nicks. (Although the part was originally going to go to Loggins' co-writer, Melissa Manchester, the authors agreed that Nicks would be better suited for the song).

"Once (such appearances) became common practice," says Scott, "it was too late to go back for a variety of monetary and legal reasons."

Do you want to know how totally badass I was when I was in high school? Do you? Do you?

Here’s a list of the posters I had on my wall when I was a teen:

Stevie Nicks – I have a thing for short women. Seriously. Big thing. Dated one that was 4’11″. Pure buckets of awesome, that. And no, I will not tell you about it.

Stevie Nicks? 5’1″. Bonus to her for that weird gypsy/witch thing that she does, all scarves and twirling and singing about druids or sea goddesses or whatever, which basically means that she was really, really high on cocaine a lot.

But man, she was a hottie, am I right? Of course I am. I’d like to Fleetwood Mac her Gold Dust Woman, am I right? Huh? Am I?

I don’t know what I mean by that either.

Blamma!Blamma! and Stevie Nicks

A little nostalgia here for Kunk as our very first foreign guest act way back in early 2008 was indeed the boys of Blamma!Blamma!. Very cool pair, super nice, and great live set. Since that time the Blammas suffered the unthinkable: one of their members passed away. In the loving memory of Martin, a little while back, Nick released some of the tracks they had been working on. One of which we’re sharing below.

As you can quickly make out, it’s has the unmistakable refrain from Stevie Nicks epic early 80s opus, Edge of Seventeen. This re-work launches it into contemporary times — undergirding it with some sweet backbeat and electronica dancefloor flavor.

Kunkers have basically a perpetual hard-on for anything fleetwood mac, stevie nicks, or otherwise, so we’re more than pleased to see this track as one of the ones emerging from the vault. All hail the Blammas and let the beat go on.

“Goth Star” by Pictureplane

This song comes on like the end of the world. Falling stars and explosions in slow motion. The chopped-up ghosts of Stevie Nicks slice into a shimmering melody that crackles and oozes under a field of distortion, overlaid onto a stomping push-pull beat, until the final minute when the voices coalesce into, maybe, “I tell everybody, Is this the end? That’s what I meant.” Put it on repeat.

Trouble in Shangri-La(the song) / Stevie Nicks

Stevie shimmered back in 2001 with her most classic-Stevie-Nicks-sounding song since who knows when. Obtuse lyrics + great melody = Stevie at her best. It almost makes me wonder if this song wasn't from the vaults - with Stevie, anything is possible. But it is latter day Stevie that didn't just not disappoint, it made you think that maybe she still had some spark and fire left in her after all. Props to Matt for putting this song back on my radar for reasons well known to him.

Westboro Baptist Church Cult - Topeka, KS

When I arrived at my internship one day, I discovered a common roadside attraction in Kansas had actually come to me. I have been spending my summer interning for a government agency that helps protect elderly residents of the state. But apparently, the people at Westboro Baptist Church Cult are offended by this. Across the street I saw a group of about eight people holding signs with messages such as “God Hates Jews,” “God Hates America,” and of course their most infamous sign, “God Hates Fags.”

For those unfamiliar with the Westboro Baptist Church Cult, they are a hate group of religious extremists based in Topeka, Kansas. You may have seen them on the news from some of their protests around the country. They are mostly known for picketing soldiers funerals because they believe American soldiers deserve to die because the American government protects and harbors homosexuals. That’s right: they hate the American military because it is too nice to the gays. I don’t know how they rationalize Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, but I’m sure it’s similar to how they rationalized protesting Stevie Nicks. (For those who don’t know, Westboro Baptist Church Cult protested a Stevie Nicks concert in Kansas City because her music will cause you to commit adultery and eat babies. I kid you not.)

Madonna is reportedly in talks with promoters to sign up to a five year residency in Las Vegas, which could earn her $1 billion.

It's not clear which venue in the US city she is talking to, though it is likely to be the Caesars Palace hotel and casino. Cher is currently due to finish a three year residency at the venue next year, while Elton John completed at five year stint in 2009 and Stevie Nicks a three year run in 2007. Celine Dion's five year residency at Caesars Palace, also completed in 2007, reportedly drew almost three million people to see 717 performances. So successful was it, the Dion will return for another three year run in 2011. However, it's thought the Madonna could surpass Dion's success.

If Madonna agrees the deal, it would also make her the third highest paid female entertainer in the world, after Oprah Winfrey and Martha Stewart.

SL: When I saw you in Vegas, you surprised me with a great Stevie Nicks impersonation. Out of all of the characters or personas you use when you perform, do you have a favorite, or do you value each of them equally?

Shannel: I think they're all valuable - I mean you like doing certain characters more than others. I love to do Lucille Ball and I love to do Joan Crawford and Judy Garland, but there's other characters, like Boy George that I do only because I look like him, not because I really enjoy the character. With Stevie Nicks, I don't do that as a look-a-like, it's just because it's fun, and there's other characters like the Evil Queen from Snow White that I love to do where I'm not changing my makeup for her, I just look like her and you take on the persona. So, there's conceptualized characters like that - I do a lot of the Disney villains.

Aging Rockers and the Internet
August 26, 2010

John Mellencamp, RIAA, Stevie Nicks

by T. D. Ruth

The Internet has played a significant role in the distribution of music for over a decade. Whether its contributions are positive or negative is a question that has been debated for years, yet the last week has seen an uptick in commentary from some old school rock stars. The message that these rockers deliver is unique and, if the die-hards on both sides of the digital music debate would stop to listen long enough, they might just learn something.

The Debate

The digital distribution of music, movies and books is a polarizing topic. On one side are the industry trade groups who try to protect their members’ intellectual property through every conceivable means, including suing tens of thousands of end users who download these works for free. On the other side are groups of people who, for philosophical or pecuniary reasons, believe that the concept of “owning” intellectual property should go away.

While the RIAA may still pursue draconian instruments for enforcing copyright laws, its member-labels have come a long way towards embracing digital technologies. If they had not, there would be no ringtones (a good thing?), no Pandora, no last.fm, no iLike, and so on. There are plenty of creative uses of music online that did not exist 10 years ago, which have since become seamlessly integrated into our lives.

On the other side, there are those who still champion the role of the “pirate” and make tens of thousands of copyrighted works available to millions of people, yet organizations like Creative Commons now have a loud and legitimate voice in music policy. Creative Commons, which has been around almost as long as digital distribution, has proven that copyright is not a black-and-white issue. By creating a uniform and easy-to-understand series of alternative licenses, creators may distribute their works with all, little or no traditional copyright restrictions.

Insight From The Rockers

While both sides have taken notable steps towards reaching a middle ground, their underlying philosophical differences are nevertheless combining to substantively change the music industry. Unfortunately, it appears that the sum total of those changes may not necessarily be for the better.

ABC News ran a story last week on John Mellencamp, which quotes the rocker as saying, “I think the Internet is the most dangerous thing invented since the atomic bomb. It’s destroyed the music business. It’s going to destroy the movie business.” He continued, “Rock n’ roll – as important as we think it is, and as big as it was, and as much money as people made on it, and as proud as I am to say that I was a part of it,” will be gone after a few generations.

Then on Sunday, Stevie Nicks shared a similar sentiment, telling the NY Daily News that “the Internet has destroyed rock . . . I’m financially stable. I’m okay. But what about the kids trying to make it in this business? If you’re not an established band, if you don’t have a hit single, they’re gonna drop you. There are a lot of people out there as talented as we were, but they can’t sustain being in a rock ‘n’ roll band for long without success. We were able to, but we’re going to die out.”

Predictably, those who champion the Internet music model, in whatever form that innovation delivers, believe rock stars such as Mellencamp and Nicks are simply trying to cling on to an outdated business model. They paint these artists with the same brush as the RIAA simply because they dare to suggest that not everything is better online. However, oversimplifying the artists’ statements so they fit into the pro-industry narrative comes at the expense of an insightful message.

Mellencamp and Nicks are not a couple of corporate stiffs suggesting that the Internet be closed for business, or that we undertake drastic measures to undergird the industry in order to subsidize rockers’ lavish lifestyles. Rather, they are artists who are making a simple, educated observation. In short, blindly believing that technology can do nothing but progress our musical culture is naïve.

A Real World Example

Consider Nicks’ statement,“if you don’t have a hit single, they’re gonna drop you.” I work with a wonderfully talented pop rock band that’s truly better than your average commercial pop. They were signed to a major label and their first record did well, all things considered. In addition to respectable record sales and equally respectable radio play, their songs were frequently used in several of the year’s most watched television shows.

The label has been in trouble for the last couple of years, partly due to poor management but mostly due to the overall decline of the industry. When the time came to exercise the option for the band’s second album, the label hesitated. There were no number 1 hits on the first record and the label was not willing to risk paying the recording fund the band was promised in their deal.

The label offered to pick up the option but only if the band was willing to accept significantly less money to record the album, deliver the album on a tight schedule, and give up a higher percentage on non-record revenue streams. Not only was the proposal fundamentally unfair, the band would not have enough time or financial resources to write any decent songs.

The band faced an impossible choice between three options. First, they could take the deal, knowing they were getting screwed, they were going to deliver a sub-par record, and the relationship likely wouldn’t last for another album. Second, they could try to shop themselves to another label, knowing that things are just as hard everywhere else. Third, they could try to release their next record themselves.

Those who loathe the music industry establishment would suggest that the band go out on their own. The Internet provides uninterrupted access to the entire world market, distribution costs are nominal, and promotional channels are wide open. For a hypothetical band, especially one with an existing fan base and the talent to make a top-notch record, the go-it-alone approach is the essence of the utopian Internet/music business model, where record labels are rendered useless, the consumers are free from musical gatekeepers, and the artists earn an honest living from their craft.

Unfortunately, the members of this band live in the real world. They are a group of mid-20s guys, a couple of which are married. They have real bills to pay every month, just like everyone else. The money that is coming in from the first album, touring and merchandise is enough to cover their expenses and little else. There are no savings to draw from. So how are they supposed to support themselves while writing music for their next record? How are they supposed to finance tours and create merchandise? Who is going to undertake all the marketing and promotion?

In theory, the guys would take crappy jobs to cover the bills while they write music. Even if this hypothetical income was sufficient to survive, part-time writing produces part-time songs. Even if the part-time songs were good enough, a crap job certainly will not finance a quality recording. Even if they could record, they still face the extraordinary expenses to tour. And even if they were able to overcome all of these obstacles, if they are busy working at a crappy job while writing songs and recording, who is going to invest the time necessary to distribute the record, promote the record, book gigs, and manage all the other laborious tasks inherent in getting a record to the public?

Nicks is right. Here is one band that must make a crucial decision that they would not have faced 15 years ago. The industry shakeup has caused record sales to shrink dramatically, which in turn has reduced labels’ profitability, causing them to invest less in developing artists while taking an even greater share of the artists’ income. Artists with huge promise but little profitability are being dropped. The vast majority of those artists will never record again.

The bitter reality is that my clients may never have the opportunity to release another album and our musical culture will be that much poorer as a result.

A Simple Change in Perspective

Far too many well-intentioned people, both within and outside the music industry, seemingly believe that consumers are always right and what they demand necessarily must be given to them. However, as we have learned on so many other occasions, moderation is not instinctual in American society and music would not be the first thing we destroyed through over-consumption.

Give us buffalo and we’ll slaughter them into extension. Give us a forest and we’ll clear cut it until no trees remain standing. Give us unlimited access to free music and we’ll download it until artists can no longer earn a living recording it.

It is foolish to dismiss Mellencamp’s and Nicks’ observations. While their comments are full of hyperbole, the underlying concern is legitimate and we all would be wise to stop to consider what’s at stake. As both industry participants and consumers of music, it is imperative that we not take music for granted and acknowledge that, just like the buffalo and the forest, we are capable of doing irreparable harm to the art of recorded music.

It does not require an active imagination to envision a world where our rock music landscape includes an endless churn of “indie” artists who can’t survive in the business longer than a record or two, while the only artists with sustainable careers are a select few of the most contrived, formulaic pop monsters imaginable.

Accepting this reality is no less critical of a first step towards saving our musical heritage as accepting global warming is towards the survival of our planet.

The Everyhead album features the lead guitar work of famed Steppenwolf band guitarist Michael Monarch, and was originally mastered by Kent Duncan, who mastered albums for such notable recording artists as the Jefferson Starship, Joe Cocker, Reo Speedwagon, Neil Diamond, Van Morrison, the Doobie Brothers, the Isley Brothers, among others.

It is reported that Stevie Nicks was interested in singing the part of the girl next door while she was still in Buckingham Nicks, but her new commitment to Fleetwood Mac interfered and she was forced to withdraw from the recording sessions.

Older Songs at the Moment

BC: I started listening to E.L.O. a lot on the European tour, and “Can’t Get It Out of My Head” is one of my favorite songs ever. And another is James & Bobby Purify: “I’m Your Puppet”, which is a song that Bobb and I listen to a lot when we’re touring and driving.

BB: Fleetwood Mac: “Sara” from Tusk. I listen to that song probably every day, at least once. Some days more than once [laughs ]. And “You Make Loving Fun” from Rumours. I’ve been really obsessed with those.

But here's what I really wanted to write about. Jeff and Caryle came up yesterday afternoon for Heidi's belated birthday celebration. During the morning, he had helped his sister with her garage sale and apparently, there was a crapload of vinyl for sale. He called me mid-morning and ran a few titles by me. A couple I already had, a few I wasn't interested in, but there were two that really got my attention. Here's the first:

It is, obviously, Stevie Nicks' 4th solo album The Other Side of the Mirror which I pretty much trashed here. Still, it was the only one of Stevie's solo albums that were actually issued on vinyl that I didn't have. This album was completely unopened - plastic seal still intact so whoever purchased it NEVER EVEN LISTENED TO IT. Well, because I know Stevie, I knew that the stuff on the inside would not be boring, so I ripped open the plastic, undisturbed since 1989 and sure enough, I was right!

That picture on the inner sleeve is one of my favorite Stevie photos of all time. I always figured it was from an earlier Stevie era, but I guess the poster of it I had in college was a promo for Mirror so it makes sense. Was it included in the Mirror CD artwork? I can't remember and I am too lazy to go look. And I love how Modern had all the vinyl labels for her solo albums be something that tied into the album cover. In this case, it's the black-and-white checkerboard floor.

I'm pretty sure that my Stevie vinyl collecting days are over because I would be shocked to find out that either Street Angel or Trouble in Shangri-La had been released on vinyl.

Rock -N-Roll is dead but not entirely because of the internet. That genre of music generally sucks nowadays. However if you listen to Hip Hop like I do there are zillions of great songs that have been released this century.

True, it's a shame that rock is dead cause i don't know about hip-hop,:sorry: i'm not a real fan, i love the more upbeat dance type RnB but i need the melody of singing and often hip-hop doesn't have that, i might not be listening to the right kind though.

Ren Riz is a young producer out of down under (specifically Melbourne) who’s making a fun mash of sounds — you’ll encounter flavors of house, space disco, funk, electro, french touch and a bunch of other genres called upon for his edits. All together, it’s a cornucopia that has the Kunkers feet on tap mode.

Part of his appeal is obviously related to his production abilities, however we’re also believers in good song selection. The fact that he did a vamped-up version of Stevie Nicks’ Stand Back got immediate bonus points. We’re sharing that track below, as well as an original called Days Fly By, which is a still-in-progress track but one that is already a dancefloor mover. Looking forward for more from Mr. Riz.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kenny Edwards, an original member of the Stone Poneys country-rock band and longtime collaborator with singer-songwriters Linda Ronstadt and Karla Bonoff, has died Aug. 18, 2010, in California at age 64.
The Los Angeles Times reports Edwards was hospitalized earlier in August in Denver after collapsing while on tour with Bonoff. He was airlifted to a hospital near his home in Santa Barbara where he died.

Edwards was born Feb. 10, 1946, in Santa Barbara, Calif., according to his biography at allmusic.com. After the Stone Poneys disbanded after their 1967 breakthrough hit “Different Drum,” Edwards formed the folk-rock band Bryndle with singer-songwriter Wendy Waldman, Bonoff and Andrew Gold.

Edwards also was a supporting guitarist and singer for Stevie Nicks, Don Henley, Brian Wilson, Art Garfunkel, Vince Gill and others. In addition to playing bass and guitar, Edwards also worked as a record producer, studio musician and vocalist, and he earned credits for writing and scoring films and teleplays, including “Miami Vice,” according to allmusic.com

The Music of Janis Joplin & Stevie Nicks Comes Alive

The music of legendary singers Janis Joplin and Stevie Nicks come together in "One Diva, One Legend, One Woman." A show presented by Jody Joseph, who is actually the first cousin of rock superstar Jon Bon Jovi. Jody presents the influences of these two female icons in the world of rock music as well as some of her own original songs.

Jody Joseph portrays the likes and sounds of Janis Joplin's 60's blues rock and the 70's fashion and musical hits of Steve Nicks. Joseph puts her heart and soul into these performances as they represent two of her biggest influences in life. This one-time performance will take place on September 25 at the Brookdale Community College Theater in Lincroft, NJ. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to Mary's Place By The Sea foundation.

For more information, please check out Jody's website www.jodyjoseph.net. Tickets are very limited. Check out a preview of Jody performing Janis Joplin's Ball and Chain.

A tambourine is played while dancing, it has been used in worship for many centuries, it has been played in Europe and its colonies for centuries, and it’s bright, loud and fun. Did I mention the fact that it can have colourful streamers attached? Combined with the fact that a tambourine also just happens to be one of the easiest instruments to play and that my favourite genre of music is good old Rock n’ Roll, a genre that often features the tambourine. I grew up listening to Stevie Nicks!

It turns out that the tambourine, and other drums like it, has a very long and interesting history. It has a deeper spiritual significance than you might think while singing along to a Stevie Nicks album too. This will be the first post following my research into the story of the tambourine and learning to play the damned thing without making an ass of myself.

Turning slightly, I look down at my 2 ½ year old and swat her bottom playfully.

“Scoot up on the couch, my little Jasmine-Flower, and I’ll read our chapter now.”
Betsy scurries to the couch and clambers up, ready for the nightly installment of Little House on the Prairie. The tea kettle is whistling, and I pour the boiling water over my green tea and her chamomile. I take mine naked, nothing added. For Betsy, I add a bit of sugar and some milk. This tasty concoction is a favorite part of the bedtime ritual. Teacups in hand, I walk back into the living room, where I find Betsy looking lovingly at the poster of Stevie Nicks in her red dress.

“When I grow up, Mommy, I want to have a dress like that.” I laugh and say, “Honey, when I grow up, I want to look like that!”

We giggle together, two girls understanding one another completely. Sipping our tea, we settle into the story.

Setting aside the book, I walk to the stereo and change the CD to ocean sounds. Taking my baby up into my arms, I carry her to bed. I tuck her in, praying silently that tonight she won’t have one of those night-terrors she’s been having lately. They are so terrifying – I can’t help but wonder if she really sees something behind me that I cannot see, when she stands before me open eyed, screaming, staring beyond my shoulder. Hopefully not tonight, I think, and kiss her on the
forehead.

“Goodnight, my little babushka,” I say, “sweet dreams!” and she smiles, whispering, “Sweet dreams when you go to bed, Mommy.”

I stop a moment, my hand on the doorknob. Looking back at my grown daughter, I tell her good night one more time before closing the door. I think that it’s only a short while now before she’s no longer in this room. After all, she just graduated from college and is preparing for graduate school. I look around the room, at Betsy’s collection of pirate regalia, mystical candles and incense, the drawing of David Bowie in Labyrinth that she drew on the wall this past year. On the bottom shelf of her
bookcase, I see the entire collection of Little House books, next to the Anne Rice and J.R.R. Tolkien. Lying on the floor is the art pad she ordered so she could illustrate her own poetry. On a hangar on the
side of her bookcase is a gossamer “hippie” skirt. I smile, and glance back at this beautiful young woman who has clothing like Stevies’ and writes poetry so much better than mine. Getting ready to crawl into
bed for the night, Betsy is setting up her sleeping music. As I close the door, I hear Stevie Nicks’ voice….”….you are the poet in my heart…”

“Sweet dreams, Betsy,” I say. She is in bed now. “Sweet dreams when you go to bed, Mommy.”

Kim Gordon is shaping up to be fashion week’s unofficial hostess with the mostest: The alt-rock legend has been receiving friends and fans at fêtes throughout the week (when, that is, she’s not catching the shows). There’s been her new Sportmax collaboration, with its attendant gathering, and then there was the fifth anniversary of No. 6, Morgan Yakus and Karin Bereson’s ultra-cool downtown boutique. The week is wearing on, but Rogan Gregory, Anna Sheffield, and Beastie Boy Mike D appeared to be handling the week’s umpteenth event in stride. Ever the gracious host, Gordon signed copies of the latest No. 6 portfolio, in which her newest series, The Noise Paintings, are featured. She took for her source material a lyric from Fleetwood Mac’s “Rhiannon” (”She is like a cat in the dark, and then she is the darkness”) and divided it into 14 single-word paintings on canvas paper. (No. 6 has also printed them onto silk T-shirts, sold at the shop.) Strange bedfellows, the art rocker and the moon child? “I always go back to Stevie Nicks,” Gordon said. And not just her. “I used a Richard Hell lyric for another series, and another one from Kurt Vile, who I can’t stop listening to.” At this party, she didn’t have to: Vile was on hand for an acoustic set.

MIDDLETOWN — Stevie Winchester thought she would be competing in a sport other than field hockey as a high school student-athlete.

“I was going to play soccer,” Winchester said. “My brother (Mac) played (ice) hockey, so I decided to try field hockey.”

She has played the sport well in her two years as a varsity player at Delaware County Christian School and her two years at Penncrest.

“Stevie’s had a tremendous impact on our team,” Lions head coach Sue Boyer said. “She’s a talented player and a team leader, on and off the field. We’ve had ups and downs, but she’s always pushing herself and her teammates.

“She plays for Typhoon Field Hockey Club, which I help coach, so I’ve watched her grow as a player.”

As for the name Stevie …

“My real name is Stephanie Nicole,” she said, “as in Stevie Nicks. My parents were big Fleetwood Mac fans.”

It's coming! It's coming! It's coming…next year.

Whomp, whomp! But it's still very exciting news.

The legendary Stevie Nicks has announced to sources that she is hard at work on a new solo CD! It's been quite a while since we've heard anything from her that wasn't Fleetwood Mac related, but she assures everyone that the disc will drop sometime next year.

Though it is a solo album, Stevie decided to branch out and collaborate for the very first time. We're told she is writing with The Eurythmic's Dave Stewart. She explains:

"This is a great opportunity to do something new. You feed so much off each other…. [the CD is a] full-blown rock-n-roll album with some beautiful ballads".

Amazing! Amazing! Amazing!

We can't wait to hear what she's got for us! It's sure to be epic!

“I grew up with Michael and Janet Jackson, but my older sister was listening to Guns N’ Roses and Nirvana, so I was right in the middle of it,” says Dobson, a native of Scarborough, Ontario, a suburb of Toronto, where she was brought up by a single mom, a mix of native Canadian and English, with a Jamaican father she just recently reconnected with. “I like that combination, especially when I heard Janet’s ‘Black Cat,’ with its rock guitar riff. That’s what this album reflects. I tried to isolate myself from the radio and TV while I was making it. I listened to a lot of old records, like Stevie Nicks, the Doors and Led Zeppelin, real dramatic, emotional music.”

This summer I heard on the radio this great song by John Mayer…Half of my heart. I think the reason why I first listened to the entire song was because it sounded like something Stevie Nicks would write and it reminded me of my sister Rhonda and myself. We grew up on Fleetwood Mac and when we visit her and her husband Mark in Florida they like to play all their Stevie Nicks records.

By the late 1970s Jimmy Iovine began to pursue an interest in production. His major breakthrough came as producer of Patti Smith's Easter album in 1978. It included the hit single "Because the Night." In 1979 he produced Damn the Torpedoes, the first of three successful albums with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. In 1981 Jimmy Iovine produced Stevie Nicks' solo debut album Bella Donna which went to #1. Their relationship was both personal and professional continuing through Stevie Nicks' next album The Wild Heart. By the mid 1980s, Jimmy Iovine was one of the most respected pop producers in the music business.

I probably have said this every time I've posted about going to see a Rush show.. but the band had a huge impact on me when I was young. For John, his band was Fleetwood Mac, mostly because of Stevie Nicks. We went and saw them a few years back, and we had very good seats then... maybe 5 or 6 rows back. Stevie does a song where it's traditional for fans to push up against the stage and Stevie kneels down and touchs them. When the point in the song got near, there was a rush to the stage. John is a big guy. He mowed people down - it didn't matter who they were. I think I saw some old ladies being put on stretchers afterward. Stevie Nicks touched him, and it was a big moment.

I'm not sure if it's because I'm older now.. but it doesn't seem like young people today have their own Beatles.. or Rolling Stones.. or Rush. Is it Lady Gaga and Justine Beiber? That's a real shame.

Women In Rock: Stevie Nicks
Posted on September 27, 2010 by jeffreychrist

Interviewed in Los Angeles, on May 11 1985, a few months before the release of her 3rd solo LP ROCK A LITTLE, Stevie Nicks, the Rolling Stone-anointed “Queen Of Rock & Roll” takes on a myriad of subjects.

In part 1, Stevie discusses the hopefully-imminent release of ROCK A LITTLE and what that means, working with her band and the recording of a few of the tracks in a Dallas church, with Jimmy Iovine, music videos (at this point, the first single wasn’t even chosen – eventually it was “Talk To Me”, which hit #4 on Billboard’s Hot 100) and touring, the surge of women in Rock N Roll that year and how Fleetwood Mac helped her become the rock star she is and how they protected her as “the little sister”.

In part 2, Stevie discusses her influence on other artists and how she hopes that, through her energy – if not her singing – those artists could learn something; her fashion influences (Madonna gets out of such comparative influences easily, Prince does not!), the admiration she has for up-and-coming newbie Cyndi Lauper’s strength and Tina Turner’s tenacity and fortitude. She also happily discusses her back-up singers Lori Perry and Sharon Celani (and “Minnie” – you have to watch) and how having them as friends and support make her life so much easier, and the relations and alleged competition between women in general, in music and in life.

She also discusses where her passion for her love of painting comes from, how it sedates her and grounds her and how it’s never been an innate ability or desire until only a few years prior. She opens up about how this passion started due to the sickness of her friend Robin (whom she doesn’t mention by name) and how she started drawing so, when Stevie could not be with her, the image of her drawings kept them connected. She “summons” Sister Honey for the interviewer (which can be seen in the next part of the video), a painting that has become a favorite over the years for Nicks’ fans.

The video is damaged around the 7 minute mark in part 2, but it’s only briefly – and you can still hear the audio.

In the final part, her painting Sister Honey is brought into the room and Nicks explains her origins and again states that this is all (painting, that is) still very new to her. Stevie is then asked about her “book that is coming out”, called “The Wild Heart” and its contents:

“A lot of poetry, it’s some journalistic stuff; it’s a lot of the actual nights of recording of THE WILD HEART and the experiences that happened during that 2-3 year period. There are some things from my Fleetwood Mac stash of 10 years of writing….the real essence of that isn’t in this book because that’s a book in itself…it’s my life, and it’s very honest.”

The book has a lot of “advice” and “philosophy” and a way to “give a little bit more of me”. She’s “very excited about them (her fans) receiving it” more than actually putting it out (We fans have been wishing for years for any book from Stevie – but sadly, “The Wild Heart” was never published.)

She talks about what she does in her down time – which is a foreign concept to her. She’s been working non-stop for over a year and a half, and hopes to take a vacation when it’s over. She talks a little about love, and the possible resurrection of Fleetwood Mac and the bond they share…and how she liked Christine McVie’s solo album and loved the video for McVie’s “Got A Hold On Me” video.

Before the interview is over, Stevie wants to add an an addendum to her earlier philosophy of love, and how she doesn’t want anyone to misinterpret that it’s an impossible ideal – she does believe one can fine it…one just has to look hard.

These are new photos of Taylor Swift in Milan today for the Roberto Cavalli runway show. I didn’t know Swifty was into Cavalli - he seems too rock n’ roll for her girly tastes. I would figure Taylor for Oscar de la Renta and The Gap. But here she is - and I’m assuming this outfit is Cavalli. I don’t really hate it - it’s very Stevie Nicks, correct? Gypsy. Faux gypsy, really. Commercial gypsy. I hate the tights. They’re overkill on an already dowdy outfit - although I think Taylor might make everything look kind of dowdy. She really needs to do something different with her hair, I think.

OT, but what's a Josh Whedon? I know a Joss Whedon - is it a typo (I mean, Joss makes TV shows and movies, but it does say "any medium" so I figure it fits)?

Always interesting to see the different places Stevie's name pops up. It's all over the board in terms of sources.

THE JIMMY CRESPO PROJECT, the new band led by Jimmy Crespo — best known as the guitarist who replaced Joe Perry in AEROSMITH from 1979 to 1984 — will make its live debut on October 8 in Club Madrid (inside Sunset Station) in Las Vegas, Nevada alongside SIN CITY SINNERS. The show starts at 9 p.m. and is free.

THE JIMMY CRESPO PROJECT is:

Jimmy Crespo (AEROSMITH) - Guitar
Chris Van Dahl (L.A. GUNS) - Vocals
Phil Varone (SKID ROW, SAIGON KICK) - Drums
Kyle Kyle (BANG TANGO) - Bass
Michael Ellis (SIN CITY SINNERS) - Guitar

Crespo appeared on AEROSMITH's "Night In The Ruts" album and co-wrote the majority of songs on 1982's "Rock In A Hard Place", performing almost all the guitar duties on the LP.

After years of performing with such artists as Rod Stewart, Stevie Nicks, Billy Squier, Dee Snider and Lita Ford, Jimmy is ready to return to center stage with THE JIMMY CRESPO PROJECT.

I apologize for not doing this as well as Viv and Michele, who keep this thread current- and also for posting it in another thread then realizing here would be better- maybe V or M can improve upon it with links I'm too lazy to go back and get- but last night, I came across 2 Stevie Nicks mentions- today, October 4, is the 40 year 'anniversary' of the death of Janis Joplin, and SN's name came up twice. If it helps, I'm pretty sure the first article that mentions Stevie came from the New York Times. I forget where, for the other one. Edit: Link for the 2 page NYT article, it's interesting.
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/10/03/arts/music/03joplin.html
*
Today, October 4, is the date when 40 years ago that Janis Joplin died. I googled Janis, under "news"- and in new articles, Stevie Nicks' name came up twice. Once was in an article quoting a Big Brother musician, who said he's 70 and doesn't have all the time in the world left, so "get me Pink, get me Stevie Nicks"-- to record a song he co-wrote with Janis, from the vault, that he released small-time, with only 500 copies pressed, and he'd like to see it recorded by Stevie or by Pink. The Joplin estate balked, then relented, realizing that 500 copies wasn't worth getting all legally-inclined over.
The Joplin estate has finally hired a professional to help 'revive the diminished presence or legacy' of Joplin- in the past decade, especially, Janis is not selling at all, so they hired the same man who runs the still very profitable merchandising of Jim Morrison and--- I forget the other dead star- (James Dean, maybe? Marilyn?)
There are several plans in the works to bring Janis Joplin's name back into public consciousness- Laura Joplin admits that she knew nothing about keeping the legacy strong- one plan is for a jewelry line, "Made For Pearl" -- based on Janis' style, not sure if that will work out or not. Sounds like a lot of bracelets and feathers!
I don't have links handy, and they were only brief SN mentions- one of the 2 articles said something like "Stevie Nicks, especially, has replaced Joplin as a symbol of enduring female rock stardom."
Well, SN's career is in its 35th year of stardom now, Joplin had 3 years for her entire ('famous') career before she died. I'd say that Stevie deserves the title, if there has to be one!

Vallejoan recalls memorable moments with Tony Curtis

It was 1990 and Scott Foster was waiting for an elevator at the Mayfair Hotel in London. He was hanging out with pop star Stevie Nicks while "learning the world tour business" from her tour manager.
"Stevie and I were standing there and I said, 'That guy looks like an old Tony Curtis,'" recalled Foster. "Stevie turned to me and said, 'That is Tony Curtis, you idiot.'"
Curtis overheard the exchange and laughed.
"I apologized to him," said Foster, a lifetime Vallejoan.
The three waitied so long for the elevator, they decided to kill time at the bar.
"When the waitress came, she recognized Stevie right away," Foster said. "When she got to Tony, she said he looked familiar. He replied that he gets that all the time."

Crystal Visions – The Very Best of Stevie Nicks

How beloved is Stevie Nicks? All six of her original solo albums, spanning 1981.2001, plus two best of collections, have been certified at least gold. With rock’s superstar chanteuse about to go back on the road after guesting on Tom Petty’s Highway Companion tour, Crystal Visions… covers her entire solo career for the first time in a CD+DVD package. Featured are several previously unreleased live tracks on the CD, as well as Stevie’s voice-over commentary for each video and her artwork on the DVD. Crystal Visions…The Best Of Stevie Nicks is exactly that.

With a career that’s seen her soar from struggling journeywoman to superstar via a fateful invitation to join Fleetwoood Mac, the singer who now bills herself as the most successful female artist in rock history looks back on the various facets of her iconography via this 16-track career retrospective. The mystic-folkie ethos that has long been her caricature are well-showcased via the cult fave Rumours outtake/B-side “Silver Spring,” the muscular Sheryl Crow collaboration “Sorcerer,” and a live version of the moody “Rhiannon” that casts it in even longer shadows.

Yet Stevie Nicks has always displayed a willingness to push herself beyond her hippie muse, as witnessed by the dense aura of Deep Dish’s remix of Mac’s “Dreams” and such disparate, pop-savvy solo highlights as “I Can’t Wait,” “Stand Back,” and shrewd, successful duets with Tom Petty (“Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around”) and Don Henley (“Leather and Lace”). Indeed, bookended by the original version of the hit “Edge of Seventeen” and a live revamping with the Melbourne Symphony that amps its every melodramatic nuance, reinvention often seems the anthology’s subtext. The album is also available in a deluxe edition featuring a DVD packed with videos, commentary, and more. –Jerry McCulley

I must confess, I’d like a comp with all the Fleetwood Mac Stevie,

along with the solo stuff. I’m not a fan of live performances,

unless they surpass the studio versions, but the live tracks have something to offer for sure.

That being said, I like this comp, and I can even get by the 80′s period drum machine, and production, because it’s Stevie, and that voice, those words, and the witchy vibe, are what draws us to her.

Pick it up for The Tom Petty colaboration “Stop Draggin my Heart Around” and the Great version of Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll” but hey it’s Stevie Nicks. It’s all good.

Stevie Nicks always seemed like the type of girl who could hang with the guys, keep up with a tour bus full of Lindsay Buckingham and all his testosterone, rip to shreds the heart of every man who dared cross her path. Christine McVie was a better singer, but Stephanie Lynn had the star power, no contest. These days I listen to Tusk and wonder how to get that star power. Maybe she kept it under the top hat with her gold dust and the white rabbit.I’ve said it before… Stevie Nicks is my other husband.

There’s more: “Baby Boy” was based on a hit by reggae star Ini Kamoze called “Here Comes the Hot Stepper.” “Naughty Girl” is merely a hefty sample of Donna Summer and Giorgio Moroder’s “Love to Love You Baby.” “Bills Bills Bills” was written by singer/songwriter Kandi Burruss and producer Kevin Briggs. “Nasty Girl” and “Survivor” were the work of composer/producer Anthony Dent, who had to share credit with not only Beyonce but also her father, Matthew Knowles. “Bootylicious” is simply Stevie Nicks’s “Edge of Seventeen.”

Nicks, following Sting’s lead from years ago with Diddy’s sample of “Every Breath You Take,” did not allow Destiny’s Child or Beyonce to get any royalties at all. Rock on, Stevie!

In fact, not one of the songs listed under Beyonce’s name on the BMI Web site is written solely by her. They are usually credited to a list of songwriters. The list comprises the actual writers, and then a few people who’ve “tweaked” the song with a rap or by adding samples.

But this is the way it’s done in hip-hop and rap. “Writing” a song has new meaning. It means “licensing” the song from another writer. The word “composer” is not in the hip-hop dictionary.

It was kind of her though to appear in the video. She should have shown a little more booty though IMO like the girls. No wait, she should have been in the group dance shots shakin' it with the girls! Now that would have been hawt.

Do we know this to be so? That Stevie kept all of the "Bootylicious" publishing? I doubt it to be so. Normally, with sampling, there is a substantial fee paid to the original writer and producer, and they are credited in liner notes. In the case of 'Bootylicious'- the lyric that Beyonce wrote had a right to be copyrighted as her lyrics, but not the music. I doubt SN would have been wanted in the video had she insisted on keeping all of the "royalties"- A clue the blogger is uninformed- the issue would be the publishing, I believe. It may have been part of the arrangement made- being in that video exposed Stevie to a new generation who didn't know her, and I'm sure she got her share of sampling royalties, or even co-authorship, SN wrote the music, but Destinys Child certainly got 'royalties' off the sales.
I dont think Stevie would be able to keep all publishing on Bootylicious- and considering Waddy has said SN lifted 'EOS' from a Police riff, it may be even less likely.
I wonder if Sting forgets that the entire melody and arrangement of 'Every Breath You Take' was directly stolen from Melanie Safka's cover of 'Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow' written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin, but The Police completely stole the plucky arrangement from the Melanie version. I believe at the time the band paid Safka's husband a fee, and the Melanie song barely charted years before, but if you are able to track down Melanie's 'Will You Still Love Me'-- the music is identical to 'Every Breath You Take', even tho the song wasn't written by her. So, maybe only the arrangement was stolen- but stolen it was. They are too identical sounding for it to be a coincidence.

This was hard to pull off because it is a woman, Stevie Nicks (who has an amazing voice btw), singing. At first I tried to go for a feminine approach, but that is just really hard to pull off. From 1:00 to 1:30 in I start transitioning into a more masculine sound since that was a lot easier. I think few people can compare to Stevie Nicks in the vocal arena, so I was definitely not trying to compete with her, just having fun with a song I really like and emulating it. If you don’t like it, please forgive me. Please rate, comment, subscribe, etc

Music licenser suing City View over fees
Bernie Hornick
[email protected] The Tribune-Democrat Sun Oct 17, 2010, 11:15 PM EDT

— Stevie Nicks wants a piece of a prominent Johnstown businessman.

And so do the Gibb brothers, of “Saturday Night Fever” fame.

Indirectly, through recording industry licenser BMI, they’re suing Andy Lasky and his City View Bar & Grill in federal court – saying he played their songs for karaoke May 7 without paying royalties.

BMI said the club played about 20 of 44 songs without permission that day, including “Landslide” by Nicks, “How Deep is Your Love” by the Bee Gees and “Paradise by the Dashboard Light,” written by Jim Steinman.

City View owner Andy Lasky did not return a call for comment.

BMI said it catches up with misguided merriment by comparing computerized lists of liquor license holders kept by states with its own list of clubs that pay yearly licensing fees for its music.

The nonprofit licenses just over half of the music in America with 6.5 million songs in its catalog.

Then, it checks out the unlicensed clubs one at a time.

Researchers often record the music inside the club – which a BMI spokesman said is legal in all 50 states.

“Songwriters make a living a penny at a time, or a fraction of a penny at a time,” BMI spokesman Jerry Bailey said from Nashville, Tenn.

“We don’t consider ourselves the police of anything,” he said. “We ask the federal courts to enforce copyright law.”

Club owners are asked to pay a yearly fee of $320 to $9,000, with the average restaurant paying $600.

The fee is based on the fire code capacity and on what Bailey calls the music’s “intensity.” The more intense the scene, the higher the fee.

For a little ambient music, the fee is low. The fee is higher with live music, if a cover is charged and if dancing is encouraged.

BMI files 100 to 200 copyright-infringement lawsuits a year.

“We’re not trying to put these businesses under. If we didn’t do this, some business owners wouldn’t take us seriously,” Bailey said. Most of these civil lawsuits are settled out of court.

Composers not registered with BMI can license their music through another agency, such as ASCAP.

Stevie Nicks - A Class Act

"I don't know all the specific details of this story but here's the gist.
Stevie Nicks, songwriter and singer extraordinaire from the mega rock band Fleetwood Mac, became acquainted with Sara and became Sara's dear friend and supporter. Stevie and Sara both shared a love of Welsh mythology, particularly the tale of the horse goddess Rhiannon...yes that Rhiannon of the famous song. Over the years, whenever Sara was well enough, her father took her to see Stevie perform, all over the country. Stevie, who lost one of her dearest friends to cancer years ago, formed a deep bond with Sara and visited her in po-dunkville Pennsylvania, far from the glitterati of Los Angeles and New York. "

Song Of The Day - "You Do Or You Don't" by Lindsey Buckingham from the album "Out Of The Cradle"

OK...I'm going to infuriate lots of people with this one...Fleetwood Mac was (or IS depending on their moods) Lindsey Buckingham. Without him...there is no band. You can keep Stevie Nicks...especially today's version of ol' croakin' Stevie. With the exception of a few classics ("Rhiannon," "Landslide") she really doesn't offer much to the band in my opinion. I'm sure there are lots of witchy woman lovers out there that are preparing for my lynching now. Lindsey's "Out Of The Cradle" album from 1992 is chock full of great songs that probably could have been big Fleetwood Mac hits, especially this one. I saw him touring behind this album at Town Hall in New York City with the band shown in this video. He was amazing...and he is still amazing today...

You can read this one of two ways, either Rob Zombie thinks he knows something about homicidal maniacs or two he’s read enough psychiatry books to understand the blood hungry mind. What comes across on screen is a half-baked Oedipal fantasy wrapped in some of the most hackneyed symbolism. A white horse? A white robed woman? Really? This is what drives the mind of a madman? No, this is the crap of a Stevie Nicks video.

Now, even if Stevie Nicks makes you want to see red, perhaps even hack up a few horny teenagers you are probably going to do one of two things. Either you kill indiscriminately, leaving a trail of corpses in your wake or you have your thing, that something special, M.O., that trademark, where by you leave behind the victims like calling cards. In Halloween 2, Michael Meyers does both.

While Portland parents are conferencing about whether to hand out organic, fair-trade chocolate bars or something more mentally enriching—like miniature Origami Kits—to trick-or-treaters this year, I am stressed about how to make a clear distinction between a Stevie Nicks costume and that of your prototypical witch.

Despite my strict childhood diet of spaghetti-os and Rumours on repeat, Stevie Nicks scared the **** out of me. I envisioned Fleetwood Mac as an ill-willed society of devil worshippers with Nicks as its sinewy leader; a growling woman clad in layers of black organza who sang songs about gypsies and witches and chains and never, ever smiled.

I had recurring nightmares in which Nicks was found strangling the hell out of The Little Mermaid (my musical idol at the time) after she sang "Rhiannon" off-key. Which almost totally happened in real life!

Anyways, now that I've finally overcome my fear of the Gold Dust Woman (after a mere 15 years and an hour-long episode of Behind The Music: Fleetwood Mac), I would like to be her for Halloween. But what if people think I'm just a boring witch who parked her broom out back? That's annoying. How does one make it obvious? Do I need a Lindsey Buckingham to beat on? A molehill of cocaine meant to be ingested rectally? Help!

A few problems … but you can’t deny Stevie …
I first got into Fleetwood Mac back in 1997 when they were on the Dance Tour. My mother was totally excited because they would be performing at the Pepsi Arena, here in Albany, NY, on Thanksgiving Eve … so of course we went. I was HOOKED from that day forward. For Christmas that year my mother got me Stevie’s greatest hits album, Timespace, and then I went from being hooked to being OBSSESSED!

In 1999 I got the Red Rocks concert and I loved it. Actually, at this point in my life, I was in the middle of losing 60 pounds, so every night for months on the stationary bike I would watch the show.

Perhaps the only problem I might have NOW with the show is that not EVERY song performed that night in 1986 are included on the disc, like “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” “Sara,” and “I Can’t Wait.” These probably weren’t included for obvious Stevie reasons, being, for one, that “Sara” is a very personal song to her and she’s always reluctant to perform it in front of people, not to mention that it, like “I Can’t Wait,” turned out MUCH better on recording and didn’t transfer to stage all that well. But seeing that this Rock a Little Tour was the only in which she performed “I Can’t Wait,” it would have made the disc more of a collector’s item … and thus a better concert.

A difficult time in her life……
I am a tried and true fan of Stevie Nicks. But, I must be honest, I was embarassed for her when I watched this concert video. She was nearing the end of a very dangerous drug and alcohol addiction. In fact, I have read that after this concert, she checked herself into a rehab. The setting was absolutely magical. The dove landing on her hand and not wanting to leave was symbolic and beautiful. As far as her performance, her voice never fails her, but she was screaming and sometimes singing in gibberish. I must say her first taped concert during the Bella Donna tour was superb in comparison! Apologies to other true fans like me, but I cannot lie about my opinion even though I love Stevie Nicks.

Good Video
Not the best Stevie Nicks Video I have ever seen, but far from the worst. Stevie’s etherial beauty and rich vocals come out wonderfully. In my opinion, there is too much pan and scan of things I’m not interested in, ie: anything but Stevie and the Band. Waddy on guitar, and Lori, Sharon, and Elisecia on backup vocals were marvelous. I’m sure you will hear some people whine about “she doesn’t follow the lyrics from the album” DUH! this IS live music, and besides, these are HER songs, so she can change the words to suit her. Anyway, she could sing random words from the dictionary, and I would probably enjoy hearing it.

Giving You Reasons - Saturday Morning

Yes - "Love Will Find A Way"

(Listening to a lot of Trevor Rabin era Yes over the last few days, hence the Yes repeat. This track is easily one of the best of that lineup. Rabin originally wrote "Love Will Find A Way" for Stevie Nicks, but decided to keep it, even though Nicks evidently had new lyrics prepared and ready to roll.)

the donnas on STEVIE NICKS
We choose Stevie Nicks for Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Nicks’ voice is beyond unique and her melodies are amazing. What really impresses us is the emotion that she puts into her songs and performances. Never coming across as sappy or clichéd, Nicks expresses anger, fear, joy, and sorrow in some of the most honest records we have ever heard. She has influenced many diverse female (and male) musicians, which shows the power and longevity of her music. Nicks has a mystical quality and she creates a fantasy for the listener, which is so important in rock ‘n’ roll. It gives the listener the ability to simultaneously experience their deepest, most secret emotions and desires, while also giving them the chance to escape their lives—even if just for the three minutes it takes to play a song.

The Donnas are an all-female rock band from Palo Alto, California

When Stephen Davis wrote the Led Zeppelin biography Hammer Of The Gods in 1984 he created the mythical image of the band as a four-man army raping and pillaging their way across the world. His new book LZ-'75—an in-depth chronicle of the band's 1975 tour—was written to counteract that image. "I realized there was a different kind of story to be told about Led Zeppelin that was worlds away from the fan boy obsessive stuff," he tells Rolling Stone. "I wanted to write about all the night's that Richard Cole didn't ride the Harley down the hall of the Riot Hours and all the nights that Bonzo didn't destroy all of the 11th floor."

The project began a couple of years ago when Davis stumbled across a cardboard box containing the notebooks he kept as a young journalist freelancing for The Atlantic Monthly on Zeppelin's 1975 tour. "I'd been looking for them for 30 years," he says. "There was so much material in there about Jimmy Page having this badly sprained right hand and an obvious drug problem, Robert Plant having this terrible case of the flu and John Paul Jones furious he didn't have any time in the spotlight." If that wasn't enough, drummer John Bonham was battling terrible diarrhea during the entire run. "I saw his drum roadies loading huge stacks of diapers into his camper one night," Davis says. "They said it was in case he pisses himself."

Zeppelin's 1975 tour launched less than six years after the band formed, but Davis says it was already the beginning of their decline. "Plant had a secret vocal chord operation after the 1973 tour and afterwards he wasn't quite the same," he says. "The 1977 tour was a disaster with a lot of violence and drugs. After that John Paul Jones took over and the 1979 and 1980 tours were like a senior citizen's Led Zeppelin."

The band re-formed for a one gig in December of 2007, but despite rumors that a tour is imminent, Davis feels that any future activity is very unlikely. "I was just in England earlier this week and I heard from a really, really good source that Jimmy is basically sitting by the telephone waiting for it to ring. I don't think it's going to. Robert doesn't need the money and he doesn't want to stumble around football stadiums with Led Zeppelin anymore. He's rather keep making Led Zeppelin III over and over again."

How late Led Zep drummer John Bonham's son is paying tribute to his dad

With LD-'75 on shelves, Davis is returning his attention to his Carly Simon biography. "Carly's helping me with it," he says. "But it's still unauthorized." Simon was on Howard Stern two years ago, where she bitterly tore into ex-husband James Taylor for refusing to speak with her. "He won't even let their kids give her his phone number," Stevens says. "The grandchildren have to have separate birthday parties. That's J.T. for you."

When that's done he hopes to write a Stevie Nicks biography. "No one has ever done a proper job of it," he says. "It's another one of these holy quest sagas. She went to audition for Fleetwood Mac in her Bob's Big Boy uniform singing 'Rhiannon.' That's Hollywood!"

No, it didn't. That blurb was about a house on Nicks Road, not a Stevie Nicks house. Check out the house on the bottom right.

It's the same with Venice, you can hear our harmonies throughout all these different eras. When we were playing at all of the clubs around town, we always had a big following. And then we would write some more, try and get a record deal and then we wouldn't get a record deal and we'd be frustrated. We were always encouraged by having support from fans. So although it may seem like we were in a black hole for the first 10 or 15 years of our band, we were still doing a lot of fun gigs, writing a lot and meeting people. Eventually, in '88 we met a guy who was the manager of Stevie Nicks, a guy named Glen Parrish. He actually saw me sitting in with somebody else, it's so weird of how the domino effect of what you do in your life [plays out]. I just happened to have nothing to do on a Tuesday night and a friend of mine was singing over in the marina. Do you remember a singer named Kenny James that was on Star Search?

Yeah, absolutely.

Great singer. He and I had become friends and he said "why don't you come down" and I was like "yeah sure." So I went down and sat in with him and did a couple of songs. Stevie [Nicks] and Glen Parrish happened to be there, it was just one of those stupid things. From that, he said "let me come see your band" and then he came and saw the band and he brought Stevie. And then everything just took off - he managed us and that's when we got our first deal. But even then, we never really hit the big time. We got our first deal, but it was a subsidiary label of Atlantic, it wasn't actually Atlantic.

[And it's at this point that my recorder ran out of juice (arrrgh!), something that I noticed a minute later, quickly switching to an alternate recorder. During the missing part of the conversation, Kipp segued from talking about their lack of initial success to the surprise success they would find several years later in Holland.]

It’s the year of Taylor Swift. Entertainment Weekly has dubbed her as “Entertainer of the Year,” much to some EW commenter’s dismay. (Out of curiosity I took a peek at what their readers had to say. Most range from canceling their subscriptions to pointing out the mag should have seen her duet with Stevie Nicks before handing out the honor. Over 201 comments and counting and very few praise the choice. )
