Who's going to the CD/DVD signing? Do we want to meet up at the same time so we can hang out all day together....and maybe form a snack list so we don't die of hunger?

Awww, have fun guys. I wish I could be there. I also wish that since Miss Nicks lives in LA she'd do a signing here someday.

What time do you plan on arriving? Depending on the size of the Ledge contingent, perhaps we should consider taking shifts? I mean, I loves me some Mama, but I simply don't do rain for prolonged periods.

I would think the rain would work in our favor. I don't see other than really die-hard fans standing in the rain at 6am. I might go....scope it out...and if it is raining.....come back at 10.....
....depending on what everyone else is doing.

WOW.. great idea Curt! I'm not going but have a girlfriend who is.. and not sure when/ if she's gonna be there?? I think she mentioned around 6am on that Tuesday.. but wasn't sure.. That's a GREAT idea to bring extra snacks, and maybe safe someone's place in line while they go take a break! I hope it all goes good - and wishing you all LOTS of good luck! I hope the weather holds up for you too!

I'm going to scope out the crime scene the night before... but I suspect that there are going to be some nutjob chiffonheads already in line. I can guarantee it!

I was going to suggest the same thing... I am willing to take a "shift", the later the better.
My girlfirend and I are getting there at about 11:30ish, but already have plans for the earlier half of the day.
If we want to make a schedule, I am totally in!

Personally I believe flipping a coin is more accurate than these weather forecasts most of the time. The NOAA weather site claims that it's going to be sunny and 60°F on Tuesday. Who the eff knows?

I know, I was worrying about that, too. I drove up from Pittsburgh over the summer and was able to find a few garages with spaces and "fair" day rates, though, so I'm hoping that will be the situation again. I also have a good friend at NYU, and I'm wondering if they have any parking that I could get a guest pass for? Somehow I doubt it haha.

Yea, I am worried about finding parking.... I want to drive up because the train times for Baltimore coming back leave to early. Not sure how else I would get there besides driving  And I am sure traffic will be a complete mess.
If I can figure out my transportation issues I will be there.

They also said that it was Stevie's request that no photos be taken (which, again, I assume to be no posed pictures)

What annoys me about this is when I called the store and specifically asked about wristbands they said they weren't doing that. I think I will wait til Monday afternoon to call again and see what the finalized plan is.

So if we are doing shifts can we start assigning times soon? I could do an X hour shift from whenever til whenever (as early as possible, I guess)... and be back at 6...just putting it out there

Oh it's definitely possible, but the post I'm talking about speaks directly of I'mNotAfraid's comment about getting a band himself from knowing the manager. I'm not comfortable with fans making decisions about whether or not to go to this signing based on someone's sense of humor. It needs to be corrected for them that what was said was a "joke" and not insider information from a friend of the store.

You'll find your answer right beneath the post about 300 wristbands.
(sometimes my humour has some truth in it).
I did make sure to post the follow-up, didn't want anyone to freak out
and change plans. But I did want people to think about different ways
of making sure they get their autographs. Read between my lines people,
I can't tell everything I know. And who would want only the facts? It

I'm not sure if I'm going or not yet, but I just had a question about this scheduling shift idea. If someone who gets to the line at 5 pm takes a "shift" from someone who has been on line since say 11 am, what happens to the 5 pm person when the 11 am person gets back from their break? Do they go to the end of the line? Because if they don't, then it's really not a shift, it's holding places in line for people, and that's kind of not fair for the people who got to the line early. Imagine if 50 people decided to camp out the night before and you get in line behind them at 10 am when Barnes and Noble opens. You wait in line for 8 hours, then all of the sudden at 6pm all of their friends start showing up to "relieve" them, but when they get back from their shift you now have 200 people in line in front of you instead of the original 50, and you miss getting a signed DVD by one person?

Grow up. Being a Ledgie doesn't entitle you to any more than any other hard working person who has a mortgage, and getting screwed numerous times out of meeting Stevie doesn't make it OK to potentially screw someone else out of the same opportunity. You'd probably be the first person to raise hell if 20 people show up and get in line in front of you at 6pm.

however if you are going to presume to lecture all here not just me regarding maturity and morals on a messageboard, put your money where your mouth is, after all, you've been a member since 2002....
please stop listening to yourself sermonize and go back and re-read any of my posts for complete comprehension. I'm here to mock and rock!!!

I'm just calling it like it is. I think a few people misunderstood the idea behind shifts, and as Curtis later suggested it's really intended for people who arrive at the same time and not the same thing as holding spots in line for people. If that's what you are doing, call it what it is. If you think I'm lecturing by saying I'd be annoyed by waiting in line for 10 hours only to have groups of people who don't show up till much later get ahead of me, you are free to take it that way. What does that have to do with how long I've been a member here?

That might be true, but I don't see anything wrong with someone holding your place on line, if they then leave the line when you get there.

the point is if you re-read my posts is that if you set yourself up as the Ledge's resident preacher, at least back it up as a supporting member. Frankly, I don't need to be lectured in three separate posts about the moral ethics of line jumping so I will take it that way...and that's why I'm calling you out, not the actual message you lectured but the implied reprimand to all the Stevie fans who just want to meet their idol...
please note the extra hires collect the extra signed autographs and for the profiteers to sell on ebay and at rock collection shows, they don't leave the line...and most don't become Stevie Nicks fans...
and it's the true fans who then pay for this stuff!!! wouldn't it be great if the true fans could figure out a way to circumvent these profiteers??? hmmm, I wonder how??? if only there was a way for true fans to communicate and support one another for these kind of events??? here's a wild thought, an internet messageboard might do the trick!!

I was a BN today. As everyone knows I can't go to the signing because of health reasons. I can't risk an incoming riot or standing or sitting more then 10 mins. It's a hassle.
But Like I said I went to BN today to pick up some book and I burst in tears when I saw this:

what made it worst is my 9 year old niece saw me crying and thought I was losing it lol :D
A rep from BN saw me tearing up and told me she knows hell will break lose on tuesday, that she going to eat extra Quaker Oats to maintain more energy. And a few Advils. lol
Such a nice lady. She consoled me and all.:o Anyway, I had to take a picture of the sign from the BN store. Just to share a little something here.

Look, my initial post is my opinion, and was not even in response to one of your posts. I do not need to be a supporting member to have an opinion, and furthermore, being a supporting member does not make anyone's opinion more valid than any other member, whether you perceive that opinion as preaching or not. How exactly are you "calling me out"? I did not mince words at all, I freely said how I would feel about anyone jumping in line? The only thing you are doing is calling yourself out as someone who thinks they are entitled to do so because they are a "true" fan, by their own definition.

your original posts (three to be exact, I'm disregarding the threatening t-shirt post as that was meant to be humourous) are more like admonishments rather than an opinion...I have several times explained my position in several posts which you really should re-read but you fail to understand my main point which is basically "don't lecture strangers on moral ethics on such a minor thing"...that's the distilled version...
your original post was only three away from mine but you did jump into my conversation...please look back at the position of your original post...
and yes, I am a longtime fan, even during the Street Angel days so I don't feel I am on the same level as the casual fan and certainly not on the same level as an employee hired for a days work to stand in line for autographs who will never become Stevie Nicks fans...and that's not a fact, that's my opinion...

Besides my first post that was to clarify what people meant by "shifts", all of my others have been to respond to you. You aren't judging others who share your opinion, but you are judging me because mine differs from yours. I'm not telling you you can't line jump, that's your business, but if you or anyone else line jump in front of me, I will have a problem. I recognize there are many fans who will not get this opportunity; some have to work, some live too far away, but that's life. I have a job and a mortgage also. I took a vacation day so I could get on line earlier. That's the choice I made. If I didn't have the time I may have chosen to call out sick, and I don't feel you (or anyone) deserve to be in line in front of me or anyone else because you have to work and you have a delusion of entitlement because you have been a fan for x amount of years. You sound like Miley Cyrus at the Grammys because Radiohead didn't want to meet her. I can't help that you perceive my opinion as a lecture, but I don't feel I need to check with anyone to make sure they agree with me before I say what I think. Sorry if that upsets you.
I truly hope you do get to meet her, and that everyone who endures the journey and the wait in line does as well.

Here are some things to remember/tips from the voice of decades of experience with FM, La Nicks solo, and other artists:
1. You need to get there VERY EARLY - like no later than noon. Those buying plane or bus tickets and/or making expensive plans should take this advice or you could be disappointed. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure
2. La Nicks has a history of doing her duty for a few hours and then leaving. Then everyone who did not get there shiitte signed gets all pissed off because she signed "only" 500 or so items over a two or so hour period. These people left hanging after hours in line seem to lose sight of the fact that there was no guarantee she would be there for five hours. Again, she might stay for five hours, but why risk it - get there early.
3. These things are historically disorganized. The same old BS usually gets said afterward - like "we had no idea it would be this crowded" or "the demand far exceeded our expectations" -- If they are smart, they likely will hand out numbers to the people in line and stop after a certain point, like 300. Again, get there early.
4. If you are lucky, you will get 30 seconds with her. So, make the most of it
5. If some fool tries to cut in front of me with some lame a$$ place holding BS excuse, I can assure you I will have no problem having them thrown out. Hopefully, the number system will prevent this kind of BS.
Food for thought :wavey:

Of course, I'd forget to turn then off and then The Ledge would see me parading through every bar in Manhattan afterward and, likely, get an up close view of the gutter sometime after midnight  of course, many on The Ledge have been there with me before . . . .

No, you def. should go there as soon as you get in the city and see what happens - the noon thing was just a suggestion, albeit a good one.
I am just saying the earlier you get there, the better off your chances are
Who knows, you may be able to stroll on in at 7:00 and get to get it signed. Seeing as how she is still very popular, she was just here in concert with FM, and they repeatedly advertised this in the Post, the NY Times, in other media, and in the store - I tend to think there will be throngs of people, many of which will be turned away.
Again, an ounce of prevention . . . .

LOL - I KNOW!
I just remember the meet and greet in Phoenix with Henley and Mick in 1998 for the Enchanted tour. She sat at this table for a total of maybe two hours and met a bunch of people many of which lingered too long. Then, she had to get some award and go. The whole thing was beyond disorganized and many were frustrated, esp. after spending a bunch of money. It worked out great for me, but I can see where the others were coming from, though she did meet many people that night, including one scary lesbian who kept shrieking and crying at the table next to her. Note - this chick got to interview La Nicks for VH-1 shortly thereafter - so WTF do I know
Interestingly, FM had a cattle call meet and greet after a show in, I think Phoenix, for the SYW tour. Essentially, groups of four or five were brought in, hurriedly arranged for a photo, and then ushered out.
I can see the band/artists' point in that you just finished a three hour concert and then you have to be Mary Fukcing Sunshine for 500 people who are oogling you. None of us would want that BS after we got off of work.
In the end, I think some (meant in general - not directed at you  ) get their hopes up in an unrealistic way and then they are let down. Personally, I think even if you could not get your DVD signed, it would be cool just to be in BN with her if you could watch from afar.

I'd love to actually meet her and will take this opportunity but at this point in my life, the part I'm really looking forward to is hanging out with my sister and cousin on the line (just not for 7 hours, we have to eat and pee!!)...it'll give us a good opportunity to talk without kids or husbands...

I'm sorry and I don't mean to be rude in any way, shape or form or to start a war but..
If I am going to be standing in line with a friend and I need to use the restroom or to get a bottle of water NO ONE is going to tell me that I have to get to the back of the line. All long time Stevie fans should know to be respectful of others. If someone needs to step out of line then any real fan would hold their place. I am sorry but your about comment really bothers me. What if I was an insulin dependent diabetic and I needed to give myself a shot and need to get out of line? Are you telling me that you would have me thrown out? I think your words needs to be re-thought. If I am taking this the wrong way I apologize. I think as fans we all need to bond together and have a good time...but no one is going to tell me that I can't step out of line and have someone hold my place.
Food for thought.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Let me clarify, I was responding to the prior conversations about about people cutting in line. For example, one person stands in line for three hours, then at 7:00, ten never before seen people suddenly show up and join them. That is unfair to the people that were waiting for hours. It is cheating the other long waiting fans because these new people likely were too lazy to get their a$$e$ there and wait like everyone else. Even if they were not lazy and could not get there because of work, etc., tough shiitte IMO because everyone else there likely took off work or adjusted their schedules to be there. Finally, cutting line via a place holder is wildly different than a ten minute bathroom or insulin break for someone there originally. If you thought I was talking about that, you misunderstood what I was saying. Hopefully, BN will hand out numbers as people arrive, which will avoid cutters (as opposed to bathroom and insulin breaks).

Okay, let me clarify my earlier offer. I live in the city and can get to B&N early, early if need be, but I can't be there from about 2-5PM. If I got there at nine and waited until two and then came back at five, I would sure appreciate someone being willing to save my spot in line and I would certainly save their spot while they went to get dinner. Is there another Ledgie who's planning to get there at about 9 (or earlier) who would be willing to make that deal?

Interestingly, you will see many a person in line with a small cooler in which is their food and drink.
Again, hopefully, they will give out numbers or something like that so that people do not have to stand in the line all day long. In other words, you show up and they hand you a wristband or some other device for indicating where you are in the line. Then, you can leave and come back at like 5:00 (make the cut off time mandatory) and form the line in the order of the device. That is how I would do it. Sadly, these things tend to be WAAAAYY disorganized.
On a lighter note, I hope there are a ton of "Stevie's in drag" there. It would be a hoot and a half to see her signing their items while discussing make up tips.

Still trying to figure out what to do about food/drinks/chairs....any advice?

I don't see how it will be possible for them to allow people to stand outside the store. There are too many other places of business that won't appreciate that. Wristbands would be the best thing. I hope they have a plan even if its a last minute one!

Here is my theory...they tell people that there won't be wrist bands so that people wont strat lining up yesterday to get one! I think by saying they wont give them out they will have a smaller line-up crowd (albeit they still know it will be HUGE, just not a riot)and then they will give out wristbands... I am still pretty sure that there will be a swarm come noon and police will make them do something if they already arent planning on the wristbands!

B/N are nuts, yea - didn't like them when I met Mick. Very nasty and bossy.
Here's my new dilemma (I haven't read back thru this thread so forgive me)...
I want the BluRay of this show and not the DVD. I just called the store and asked if they have it. They said no. I asked if they WILL have it tomorrow. They said no.
I then asked if I could buy it somewhere and bring it with me because I don't want to buy the thing twice. They said NO.
WTF - that sucks. I need to buy this twice? Plus they probably won't let us take a photo with her, etc....

you can go upstairs and sit. There are restrooms, and you can buy food there.
Once you leave your seat, you lost it. Now considering us fans we love each other.
If someone next to me got up and said can you hold my seat I would. I didn't
get the dvd/cd in time so she told me to go and buy that first cause that is what she
will be signing. I have soundstage I will bring that just in case I don't get the
ones in the store. My husband smokes so I know he will be in and out so
I hope no one gets mad at us. We are getting there at 7 am. But the only time
people will be standing outside is if upstairs is full.....Lets help each other out

Nah - I work in the city and don't have to park there. I just think it's lame, that's all. I mean, I'm a fan but I'm as broke as anyone else and I guess I'll just have to have the regular DVD and forget Bluray for now. Heh.
But really, what's the harm, ya know? If they don't have it available they shouldn't force people to buy something else.
What I really would like a photo with her, that's all. I've always thought she was the coolest since I was a kid - my first Rock N Roll crush, you know? It would just be cool to have a pic with her.

Then you should get chummy with the person behind you and quickly turn around at the count of three as they snap a pic while you are at the table with Stevie.
I played the regular DVD after I got the CD/DVD thing on Saturday, and it looks dreadful on a HDTV. Regular DVD's need to be put out to pasture ASAP- I can't believe that in this day and age we are still forced to put up with this antiquated technology.

I don't understand why people are complaining about "no photos" and the fact that she'll only sign 1 thing - there's only so much time in the day, people. of course they have to set some limits, it's a signing not a meet & greet.

Yea I can't take a day off work. I'll be too bored on line anyhow. I'll go there after. Probably get there at 5.
And hey, we're not complaining per se about buying the item. It's just that I'd rather have the blu-ray than the regular one since I have the blu-ray player. If they don't have it, they should let us bring one. I'd gladly buy it if they had it.
Yea I'll ask the person behind me to snap a shot maybe. :)
See how it goes.
I met Don Felder once and it was a great experience. He was very cool about it all and friendly. Stood up for the pics with everyone. Yea there's little time but if you get it down to a science everyone can get one pic with her really fast just leaning over the table like Mick did.
Whatever - it's all good. Stevie's tops.

HejiraNYC, this suggestion might help your regular DVD's look better on a
HDTV.
If you have your DVD player hooked up to your HDTV through it's component outputs, change your DVD players video settings to output to progressive scan . And then set your player to output to 16:9 (instead of 4:3). That should help your old DVD's look pretty good on your HDTV.

ETA: My boss let me leave early. She actually brought it up to me as soon as I walked in the office today. So if my boss knows there's a Stevie signing at B&N, that means everybody knows, which means IT'S GONNA BE CRAZY! So I know I won't get an autograph, but I will stop by.

And it so beautiful today in NY....
Anyway, after the 300 chairs are full that's when they stop allowing folks up? It sounds like that to me.
I hope you gypsies there today have a rocking time. Please take pictures and if able, take video if your cell phone lets you to lol ;)
I wanna feel like I am there with you guys

I am two subway stops from BN. That is what is *******ing killing me here. But with my health and not being able to stand, I just couldn't go and risk it. I didn't know BN was going to have 300 chairs set up. That lady who consoled me on Sat when I took that picture of the sign at the store, didn't tell me that :distress:
Had I knew that, I could have went really early, sat there a few hours knowing that there would be chairs. I'm so upset right now cuz I could have gone, but oh well. What can I do? Too late now. :distress:

Yes, we were wondering about crowd control. Maybe that's how they are going to make sure there is no spill over into the street, by just cutting off the line. That's frustrating, but at least Stevie will probably sign for everyone who DOES get in. You don't/shouldn't have to worry about being left out even if you are at the end of the rows of chairs.

I'm on line right now, I am seat # 152. They have long rows of chairs set up and down the aisles, our aisle is 'Biography' and we are all facing each other. It reminds me of waiting in the principals office, but we're all chatting and the air isn't too warm (I'm warm only because of my coat).
I bought both products, and have my receipt so I guess they hand them when you get close. More later....

Just got back...
-She wore her black solo Stand Back outfit with the pants and frilly jacket.
-Tons of press, saw a video camera, lots of flashing bulbs, etc.
-Stevie addressed the crowd briefly, saying that this is the first time she's done something like this and that she wished she was a best-selling author.
-She posed with the three Stevie-look-alike contest winners- two girls, one guy (who really looked like Riff Raff from "Rocky Horror").
-She is flawless. We should all go bathe in a tub full of Creme de la Mer... for the next twenty years.
-She touched my hand and asked me how I was before that effing daf;oiu0'poiahjof;h Liz Rosenberg totally interrupted my moment and interjected herself while I had my face time.
-The crowd went absolutely apesh** when Stevie arrived and proceeded to stand on their chairs.
-The crowd outside went around the block; in fact, I was not able to see the end of it.
All in all... a resounding success!

I'm still trying to make sense of this... it was all so fast and so surreal! I guess I was most shocked by how her voice sounded off-mike- it was incredibly velvety and welcoming- like a big warm blanket. It's no wonder that she is so good at nurturing the soldiers. She seemed really nervous (especially since the first guy was certifiably insane), but she was very genuine, looked you in the eye and her hands are so soft and warm... It's hard to be in the moment when the moment is such a clusterf*** of stimuli.

Upstairs on the fourth floor, I would say easily 500 people and at least that many outside, if not more. Seriously... those people outside need to go home- she could be there until tomorrow and still not finish the line.

10PM. But if there are 500 people already inside, she would have to sign 166 CDs per hour or just under 3 per minute. How much can her little hand take? I suspect the last hundred signatures are going to look like total chicken scratch.
