Taking a page out of rock n' roll's history book of music icons, DBH will be partnering with bands that span the spectrum from the great classics of all time to the hottest emerging musical artists today. Packed with tons of cool prizes and a chance for worldwide recognition, the DBH Music Series brings a whole new level to the world of t-shirt design contests. Hold on to your Wacom Tablets, cuz this is gonna be good!

To kick things off, DesignByHumans has teamed up with legendary supergroup Fleetwood Mac, one of rock's most enduring and influential bands, to create some fresh new tees for the band's upcoming "Unleashed" tour.

Submissions due by Nov. (I assume they meant Sunday) February 22, 2009 (Midnight PST) at Midnight! Good Luck!

First Prize
$1500 cash, $200 DBH store credit, and 2 backstage passes to a Fleetwood Mac concert with an opportunity to meet the band

I don't think we can use these photos either. From the rules it would seem you can't use any pics of the band that you don't own. Taking a looka t the other kinds of shirts, they are all original designs, no outside pictures, logos, or anything.

Well, we could always do drawings and scan them in - if you draw something based off a photoshoot and edit it a bit, that doesn't count as theft of intellectual property, does it? -, but for the design idea I have I would need photos of the band members "in action", taken by fans, so I won't get into any legal trouble.

Hey, I hope peeps don't get the wrong impression that FM is going to be selling their t-shirts as part of concert marketing or anything else. I hope peeps realize this is just a t-shirt company, that offers prizes to graphic designers for designing t-shirts, with a little buy-in by a band to use their name for light marketing of a contest.

Nevertheless, yep peeps could win 1) a place on the page for the company to showoff the winner's design, 2) knowledge that those running the contest make the $$$ by selling the winner's design on the company's t-shirts bought through the website, 3) top-prize money, 4) and a couple of tickets backstage (woohoo! I Love All Access! :blob2:)

The wifey and I are full steam ahead on the move. We've sold about 50% of our belongings and are ready to go! Immigration has assigned us a case officer, and everything is hunky dory in that department. Getting job offers will only speed up the process, so it's just time to go.

hey, you can use any T shirt format image you can find on the web....just use Paint and "paste it"...when you upload the files, its tricky because they have to be a specific pixel width and height...other than that you're just fine!

Hey, I really like your design. I'm all for bringing back the Penguin icon! I won't be submitting designs...but I wish someone would design a shirt with an image of many penguins walking out of a cage or something like the march of the penguins.

And instead of just having an image centered on the front and back....how about a penguin/image on the sleeve?

That is GREAT! But I think what would make it KILLER is if you switched up the font to something a little BIGGER and more Eye Catching! But yours is the best so far! I have some great pics I want to use, but even if I DL's photshop I would not know how to use it!

I deeply appreciate your complimentary feedback on my design and I'm inclined to agree with your suggestion to switch to a larger and more stylish text; in my haste to submit my first design, I never thought to use any of the various signature Fleetwood Mac text until it was too late... what's more, I cannot take the current design down... unless I re-post it with the updates, but having a virtual duplicate of the same design might not go over well with the other participants in the contest. Argh.... Anyway, thanks again.

That's right. Those photos don't belong to me. But then half of the other designs that got accepted have photos in them too. They could've rejected them ... All my other designs are logos and vectors only though.

Honestly, these are may favorite shirts. I love these. I could see the band selecting these, minus the "NZ" portion... For a general tour tee. It is everything the mac is today: Class, Rock, Iconic. They would be mad not to consider these, GREAT JOB!

I got the pictures from the Live In Boston DVD, as I simply paused the video on a select scene, copied the image, and took it over to Photoshop to work on it. That's my secret. Let us keep this between ourselves. Heh.

:o I could have made something more complex - but didn't feel that would be best. Fleetwood Mac's shirts never have been very complex design wise. The penguins are classic and I feel the text is catchy and unquie. Most important I made a design that I thought could actual be sold on a shirt. For example -the 'Gypsy' design artisticly is fantastic. However I don't think that it was really the Gypsy that Fleetwood Mac sings about...you could tell it was a non fan who just read a song title and went from it. I think us fans can do the best because we know what kinds of things other fans like. :nod:

While I personally consider myself to be undeserving of official "Ledgie" status in my infancy on this excellent and amply informative site, I do appreciate the level of camaraderie here and my preference is for a Ledgie to win this contest as well. As ardently as I want to win, I know that I have a sliver of a chance at best, and if anything, I'm targetting 5th prize, but mostly what I'm deriving from this experience is knowledge of how to use Photoshop. The designs contributed by you veteran Ledgies appear distinctly contention-worthy. I wish you guys the best of luck and know that you can count on my votes.

MyLittleDemon's penguin shirt (without the kiwi, though the kiwi is adorable and I hope they make it to NZ for y'all) is flippin' brilliant, and I love Matt's first design like mad. I would wear both (though not at the same time...or WOULD I? Bwah ha ha).

What if we got some shirts made ourselves anyway? Everyone has come up with such great designs, we could pick a couple of them, put "OFFICIAL LEDGIE" or something on the back, and then we'd be able to see each other in the crowd and get a sweet shirt at the same time.

I really like these shirt designs...simple and clean. Well done. The Penguin icon hasn't been utilized in a long time. Time for a Penguin come back! In my opinion, any t-shirt design that features a big image of the band is quite cheesy -- nothing I would ever wear. I buy them only as collecter items. A tasteful tee with a cool icon (penguin) that doesn't scream band shirt merchandise is one I would likely wear.

To be fair, only two don't seem to have a proper Mac connection (the others have lyrics, the official logo, a picture of the band, a crystal ball, a cartoon of Mick), but to tell the truth I thought the object of the competition was just to design a great looking tour t-shirt. I went to more than 50 gigs last year and always check out the merchandise stand and oftentimes I've found the t-shirts have nothing to do with album art or photos of the band, they are just cool, well designed pics that just look cool on a tee with the band name. And I thought those t-shirts looked cool too, but maybe that's just me :shrug: I enjoyed the creativity and uniqueness of those t-shirts. I'd actually love to buy the first one with the Crystal lyrics.

One of my favourite tees I own is like that. It has a drawing of a fox on the front and says Midlake on the back. I have to say indie bands make the best t-shirts by far.

Since they redesigned their site you don't get email confirmations that they received your design anymore. They will send you an email as soon as the design is up. Hope that helps. :)

that site redesign right in the middle of the contest threw me for a loop. I was using their older "shirt illustrations" for my mock ups and now they have actual pictures to use (and a whole heck of a lot less colors to choose from too!)

Well I think the prize, really, is having your design marketed on the tour.

An answer from designbyhumans regarding the changing of the first prize.

"Although we have every intention on having the winner meet the band, The Management from Fleetwood Mac could not “guarantee” a meet and greet. So, for legal purposes, we had to remove that piece of the prize. The wording “an opportunity to meet the band” was just too loose. We apologize and hope that the $150 in itunes downloads helps ease the pain."

I think their management at least must know about it because otherwise they wouldn't be able to sell the winning t-shirt on the site because of copyright issues concerning using the name of the band etc. It's probably something dreamed up between the record or PR company and that website though, in order to promote the tour. I doubt the band actually know about it.

First I would like to say, there are some freaking nice looking t-shirt designs!! Now I have looked everywere for the Fleetwood Mac logos and Fonts in the highest quality, and I have not found them at all. I know the new Fleetwood Mac font is Arial modifed a little, but does anyone know were I can download the actual font or would not mind sharing some HQs of thier logos please? :)

I think you need to convince the people of DBH to vote for your stuff, not just the Ledgies here. Sure, we'll vote for your stuff because we're friends & part of the community...but the people are DBH can be brutal. The bulk of the votes seems to be coming from them.

More than half of the comments on my pages designs are from people I do not recognize. Many of my friends, I emailed them and asked them to sign up to vote. But I still notice that the majority of them seem to be coming from the people who've been on there designing for quite some time.
