So, (yes I know starting with so may not be the best, but for some reason, it helps me get my thoughts together ), I am sure some of you were aware of that girl that I was kind of interested in (the one from the Waffle House picture. Well, I was trying to take some time and get to know her. We have had several math study sessions together, which she initiated by the way, and I thought things had been going well. I make her laugh a lot (she's even told me as much). But after the one before last, her Facebook messages became shorter, and the last study session was not quite as intimate as the others. I was trying to read things like body language and things, but the big thing was that she wasn't talking very much. She is a very quiet and demure girl, but this was less than usual.

Then this evening, I went down to the lobby for something, and I see her with a guy friend of hers, and she was sitting much closer, body turned toward his, and seemed to be more animated than she was with me. At that moment I knew for a fact that I'd be forced to move on from her. It does kind of hurt me that once again, I lose the one I would like to spend some time with as more than just a friend, but I guess it is just something that you get used to. That being said, I'm a very passionate person, and it is just hard for me and sometimes I don't know what to do. I just want for someone to be interested in me, and for me to not have to worry about these things.

On the positive side however, one of the desk clerks who is not to terribly unattractive if you know what I mean (however she does have a boyfriend), commented on how much she liked my sweater, in the elevator. She then acknowledged that she always seems to be complimenting my attire, and that I am a very snazzy dresser. This being said in front of her boyfriend, I do believe. So anyway, it's not that I am interested in this girl at all, but just the fact that she acknowledged me in that way, really made me feel good about myself.

Anyway, just wanted to vent a little bit and make of this what you will.

Take Care,
Ethan

Sorry to hear this happened. Women are attracted to confidence and assertiveness. Maybe you waited too long to make a move. That being said, you never know what could happen in the future.

Do you ever tell these girls you're interested in them? Women/girls aren't mind readers you know

 They aren't????? I was giving her plenty of signals, so I am pretty sure she had an idea. I'd tell her how pretty she was, various things she'd do that were cute, and stuff like that. So I'm pretty sure if she were at all interested, she would have kind of returned these favors. Like I said, I often get complimented on my attire, but never once did I hear it from her. Get my point?

Oh Ethan....
You need to FB message me....

Honey, you do need to tell these girls before stuff goes on...

And with WaffleHouseGirl [not using names...]...was it the same night she was with the other kid? If not it may just be she was having a bad day or something. Trust me, girls have bad days.

like I said hon,
FB me.

How many of these threads have you started? Have you ever taken any advice that anyone has given you? It seems like you are always interested in girls out of your league or girls that already have boyfriends. I don't know why I'm wasting my time responding though, because you will probably never come back to this thread. Do you really think a message board of strangers is going to be able to cure your relationship woes? If you act in real life how you act on message boards, it will probably be a really long time before you have a relationship.

Except for those of us that often mistake being a jerk for confidence and assertiveness...;)

I would be fascinated to know if you feel any better about yourself now? I found it interesting that the basis of your "post" was about someone posting too much, yet you read the post, responded to it and even acknowledged that it was a waste of your time. Yet somehow the original poster should be viewed as the odd one?

I hope it accomplished something, but putting others down in an attempt to lift your self up rarely works and tends to make you like rather nasty in the process.

I don't know- I thought the message was crafted rather tactfully, and posed legitimate criticisms and observations.

Interestingly, this happens in a lot of Ethan's threads. He posts about something, people start arguing over the validity of his post, and then either Ethan will not come back to the thread, or if he does, he is shocked that people are being crappy to one another over it. I really do find the Ethan Phenomenon quite fascinating in an almost clinical way.

Hey Ashton. I feel fine about myself. Both before my post and after. I have a successful career and I'm in a great relationship. I have a lot of close friends. When I have problems, as we all inevitably do, I talk to my friends. I listen to their advice and take it to heart. Likewise, when they have problems, I listen and provide my suggestions to improve things. I don't post about my personal problems continuously on a public message board. It's certainly fine to do so, if one is comfortable with that. But when people take the time to respond and provide advice, the one requesting it should take it into consideration once in a while.

I've been around here, and other message boards, dealing with Ethan and his ways for quite a while. He has a definite pattern of starting new threads about his various issues, both technical and personal, and then abandoning his threads. So, if he treats people in real life the way he does online, it's no wonder he has problems.

Sorry if you had a problem with my post. I didn't think it was nasty or out of line. However, it always seems that whenever anyone criticizes Ethan, there is someone waiting to jump to his rescue. Note that he rarely defends himself, he just lets the discussion ensue in his absence.

Thanks for your concern about my well-being.

Its worth remembering though that Ethan is 18 if I am right? Most of the people posting here have been there. Its somewhere between a teenager and an adult. Its easy to forget what it was like.

Oh and Ethan, everyone mentions that you are such a snazzy dresser. Thats kind of like saying "so you're gay right?". I hate to say it but most straight men don't dress to impress.

I'm a music major, so when giving performances and whatnot, I have to be dressed nicely.

As for the original post and my posting patterns or whatever. Sometimes I post just to get the thoughts out of my head. It's kind of like a stream of thought kind of thing. I have talked to friends about related issues, and maintain many close friendships. Sometimes I do think that in the message board world, I am a bit more verbose and hyper than I am in real life, and I do apologize for this. I have made an effort over the past year or so to turn it down a bit. It's still a work in progress.

But the thing with the girl is just kind of frustrating. I am so ready for someone to care about me in that way and want to chase me..... After 18 years of chasing, I am kind of tired.:)

I'm not in the same boat, but it's similar.

My boyfriend works with a guy and they're very close. Anyway, after weeks of such high praise I was actually excited to meet this guy. I was really looking forward to meeting him. At first he was very 'agreeable'. He liked all the same music as me, read all the same stuff as me (and considering some of it is a bit specialist, it was a surprise - groupie books!). No less than two days later he wants to see us again, and this time it was a bit more personal (he was told his father was dying). I was very uncomfortable going, but for the sake of my boyfriend and out of kindess, I went. Again he was pleasant.

Then suddenly, as if a switch had been flipped, he ignores me. Only me. If he sees me, instead of saying, 'Hey, I saw you the other day', he'll facebook my boyfriend and say, 'Oh, I saw .... the other day'. He won't talk to me like before, trying to converse with him is like trying to draw blood from a stone. And he'll be very happy and flirty with every other girl, but not me. I'm not interested in him romantically, obviously, but I was expecting him to treat me the same as every other girl. And it's not like I'm someone else's girlfriend is a good enough excuse. Plenty of his other close friends are in the same situation, yet he's fine with them. He didn't even wish me happy birthday, which I think is rude, considering that my boyfriend will know about it.

What bothers me more than anything is that he doesn't want to even try and act polite to me, if only for the sake of my boyfriend. He works with him 6 days a week! I mean, it's almost like he couldn't act any more disinterested around me if he tried. So, why is it me he's seemed to single me out and ignore me? It actually makes me not want to be his friend, which is a shame, because my boyfriend gets along with him so well.

Edit: Just want to point out that neither my boyfriend nor his work mate are gay.

I'm serious.

You'd better get your Nancy Drew on, pronto.

This is what you'll need: A digital camera, plastic evidence bags, measuring tape, scissors, a flashlight, cast and mold kit, finger-print kit, field drug test kit, a reasonable disguise, and of course, a fake badge.

Don't listen to what anyone else says - "It's all fair in love & war" trumps all "good" advice, such as "ask him directly if there's a been a problem." That's for pussies, and only gives him (who should only be referred to as "the enemy") a chance to lie, distract or confuse.

Really? Have you seen pictures of the Sex Pistols (etc) recently?

Just don't dress too nicely when you aren't giving performances. I don't mean look like a homeless guy, just don't look too snazzy. Funny but you'd be surprised how many times girls just assume men are gay when they aren't.

As for not wanting to chase after 18 years, you are in for a surprise... thats not going to change. I'm 34, have been with my wife for 10 years and still chasing (her of course!).

This is true about the attire, and I definitely see what your saying.

As for the chasing, what I meant was that I was just ready for someone to share the feelings that I have for them, so that way it's kind of a reciprocal thing. I wouldn't mind chasing if I knew the other person was into me too. That would be fun, but is something that I have never known.
