Oh, hon', please... leave your standards behind in Atlanta! Manhattan- the only place in America where wealthy people live in sub-poverty conditions. And that is no exaggeration! If your place is full of roaches and mice, you pretty much have to deal with it because a) it's very hard and very expensive to find another place; b) the landlord has no incentive to fix it since there are 1000 other people willing to take your place; and c) if they do remedy the situation, they will jack up your rent 50% and brand you a "problem tenant." $3,500 for a 1 bedroom apartment is just your standard 600 square-foot shoebox in Murray Hill with a lobby attendant and formica countertops; it's not the Plaza Hotel. And if you have a car, that's another $450/month to park it. I swear it sometimes makes me crazy to see the quality of life you find in other cities; it really makes me wonder...

That Linda R. record is one of my fav. records. I love her voice and I love the Neville brothers. Plus, I lived in NOLA when it was recorded and was sort of around that scene. They made beautiful music together!!!

Up until becoming engaged I never really thought of settling anywhere. The thought of moving was always new and exciting. Its a pain in the arse to some degree, but it always allowed me a change of scenery (jobs, new people to meet, places to go). The hardest part I suppose is always leaving behind good friends. Surprisingly i've been able to mantain relationships with many friends...and those that I lost touch with, somehow or another, found a way to fall back into my life when I least expected.

It really is comforting. Everytime I go to my parents home, I sit there and get so sleepy. I think it's because I'm so comfortable. Unfortunately, the area they're in is turning quite rough, but they'll have it paid for in about 2 years, and my dad refuses to move until he retires. I don't understand his logic. They've turned my room into Sara's room. They repainted, got a new bed and dresser, and that's about it. I swear, that room is so tiny... I'm guessing no bigger than 10X10.

Most of the violence over the years has been gang-related, where innocent ppl often get caught in the crossfire. It's probably best that they canceled the party. It just outgrew the neighborhood as you can see here...

It's written in an Indian language called 'Tamil', spoken by millions in the south of India as well as in Sri Lanka. It is a Hindu mantra, pronounced simply as:

"Aum, Nama Shivaya"

It's a devotion, to the name of God. In this case, it is God in the form of Shiva, one of the three deities that forms the Hindu trinity (Brahma is the creator, Vishnu the sustainer, and Shiva the destroyer- but destruction in a good and natural sense, as only with destruction can new Creation occur).

Absolutely. Regardless if they are a Hindu who you think is really cool because he's from another country and speaks a cool little-known language and has a nice car and yeah he's a few years older but so what he's good looking and hey there's nothing else out there and who cares that was like his 4th drink in one hour.

Oh, sorry. That all just sort of slipped out..

At any rate, my tat is still there and I'm quite alone. But, it is an interesting conversation piece and no one knows what it is unless they can read Tamil. So, I could say it's Swahili and means "Mama say mama sah ma-ma koo sah".

I had that same exact paneling in the first apartment I ever had with whatshisname. What I did was get some brown colored shellac (its a one-step thing for quickie furniture makeovers) and used a wide stiff bristled paintbrush. Using up and down strokes on the semi-dry brush, I made the most amazing faux-wood paneling effect. It looked sooooo cool. That was my one and only Stevie-inspired room. Dark woods, Persian rugs, shawls, candles. Sigh..

I was inspired at the same time by Marie, Queen of Roumania. Her castles were legendary in their hodge-podge, eclectic style of rugs and candles, statues and potted lilies (go ahead Lily...), chunky dark wood furniture and Art-Nouveau carved panels and lamps.

Oddly, no green drinks. Started with "Irish Coffee Scorpion Bowl". Basically coffee, Bailey's, and Jameson in a bowl with ice. Effing delicious at 11:30am. Haha. Then on to the Guinness and then light beer. I ate everything in sight to stave off any stomach issues and it worked! Tuck made these awesome chicken and avocado quesadillas, they were heavenly.

How about someone breaking up with you by 'text message'. Sh*tty, right? Happened to me. I was at work when it happened, and I was speechless with shock for about 10 minutes or so, and thereafter it just occurred to me how ridiculous it all was and I laughed about it for the rest of the day with my officemates.

Last Sunday we did a charity dog walk called Mutt Strut to benefit the Indianapolis Humane Society. This was held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and we walked our dogs around the track. So much fun.

Indianapolis motor Speedway!!. I've been to the museum and tour but not the race. The Indy 500 is coming up in a few weeks. Are you going? I've always wanted to go. It's a real spectacle with a crowd of around 300,000

I've been a few times. I'm quite the local. I was raised just about 1/4 mile east of the track. (oh the crazy stories I could tell about the night before the race!) The neighborhood street behind the street I was brought up on had a big 6 foot fence... an attempt to keep us off the IMS grounds. But there was a hole in the fence just big enough for me and friends go slip through, and viola! We were on the Brickyard Championship Golf Course, and just a little further was the 2nd turn. Oh yes, I've been a few times. So, I'm one of those who get mad when a tourist is in front of me doing 20 mph in front of the track to "take it all in".... I've taken it in all my life! Drive the damn speed limit! haha :lol: It really is a neat place to be during May with all the activities going on. I won't be going this year, but maybe again one of these days.

If you ever come to Indy to see the race, let me know. I have lots of places you can camp and park.... and party, if you do that sort of thing.

I was just at the vet with Bailey (newly groomed and looking debonair) & a woman came up to me & asked me where I got my "Havanese dog." I thought, "What the fous is she talking about?" But I said, "What? I believe Bailey is a mixed breed." This lady insisted that he is NOT a mixed breed but a breed called a Havanese or Havana silk dog. She has one herself & told me that they are very hard to come by & quite expensive. She was very insistent that Bailey was one of these Havana whatevers. I couldn't really argue with her since I have no idea where Bailey came from. He could have been someone's pedigree that ended up in a shelter. I mean, you never know.

I went onto some Havanese Web sites & sure enough there were some dogs who looked just like Bailey! They come in all colors but their features are similar. Help! Is my mutt a Havanese? :eek: You guys seem to be canine experts.

Funny, I would sit on the front porch when I was a kid (this was the 80's) and listen to it on the radio, but I heard the real cars in the background! haha! They don't televise it here until later on in the evening. Even if I wasn't at the track, that day always felt special as a child. Everything around us was calm... no one was out and about while the race was running. Mom and dad knew to get their milk-pop-bread prior to race weekend because we were never able to get out of our neighborhood because of massive traffic... but while the race is running, if you've got to go somewhere, that's the time to get out! Even though I'm not living in that neighborhood anymore, race day always feels like a special day to me.
