Probably 7 or 8 hours. It takes like, 6 to 7 to get to pittsburgh from here, and a good part of that route is the same way you'd have to come. I-79, 77, 81, 26, 240. And various highways in between.

it pours and becomes a flood...

Was on our way for Deb's bi-annual checkup at her oncologist's office in Edmond (A large suburb 12 miles North of OKC) when at 65 MPH (In the slow lane of the turnpike - the speed limit is 75MPH) a semi-truck started to speed up on us.

I decided to speed up since I'm guessing 65MPH in the slow lane is too slow for Billy-John/Bob-Bubba, who apparently suffers from led-foot. Then I felt the car jerk hard, then a high pitched whining sound resonated from underneath our car - Threw a few gears out of the transmission!

I immediately had a panic attack...

Great - Here we are about 65 miles from home on the interstate with no turnaround exit for another 15 miles. I decided to say "F**k it", took the next exit after the toll both (Thank God/Allah/Shatner for 'pikepass') drove another 10 miles away just to be able to circle around and pray we made it home without injurying ourselves or someone else.

Drove the living **** outta the car, Everytime I stopped at a stop sign/stop light I had to slowly edge the car forward so it would catch the transmission & drive.

Made it all-the-way home. Parked the car, which now has no reverse gear, and now tryingn to figure out what the hell else is going to go wrong to us.

We have been through enough hell since 2005, but for some reason we still keep knockin' instead of taking the easy way out (Trust me, I think about suicide alot, BUT I wont do it - I won't put my family through that ****, especially Lesa whose adopted Father shot himself in Nov.2004 - Just 2 months before she found Mom.)

But then I thought it would also be explained why certain threads around here have been going missing recently.A request was made for Carrie to remove her signature pic. A request, not a demand.
Carrie didn't like it, and decided to send a "message" to Chris with her horse's ass pic. Her friends followed suit.

Whether or not any of you like us, or agree with us, we're not here... on our own time and without pay... to be mocked or disrespected. On other message boards, that kind of behaviour is immediately greeted with a permanent ban. We've never done that here on the Ledge, yet all we get for our troubles is more grief.

The crew who joined in on the "horse's ass brigade" were TEMPORARILY banned for just a few short days, until this matter can be discussed by the mods and sorted through. Since a dozen people were involved, this was done to prevent the situation from escalating... as it has so many times in the past. No one has been given a strike and no one has been permanently banned. This was done as a preventative measure. It is a right of the moderators, and has been exercised in the past when necessary.

^ Thanks for the explanation, Stew. This just keeps getting better & better. Mocked & disrespected? Come off it. It was a joke, for cripes sake. Nobody was attacking anyone, nobody posted any pics that were against the rules. Sending a message? A message saying what, that we're goofy & immature & silly people sometimes? Wow, that IS a real problem.

I'd be way more concerned about what kind of message it sends when a MODERATOR sends a PM to a member asking them to remove a pic for no other reason that because they think it's gross & don't want to look at it.

One of the things that I love about this site is the way that people push the envelope in terms of what is in good taste. 95% of the time I fall about laughing at the antics of the 'regulars'. For that I don't care about the 5% when for some they go over the top. It is a wonderful place to be! It wouldn't be the same without those not currently involved in the forum, and I hope they'll be back soon.

Just because you are a mod you can go around making requests like that? Had it been me I would have told any person to go F themselves and just not look at the picture if they didn't like it. Like we've been told many, many times before by the mods here, there's always the ignore feature. Had it been any other person than a moderator that was involved in this, surely those dozen people wouldn't have gotten banned.

But ok. First off, it was unfair for Chris to ask Carrie to remove her sig pic simply because SHE was offended by it - just turn off the sig viewing thing - no one else seemed to have a problem with it  And from what I've heard she did not ask in the nicest of manners.

And frankly, I think this is not about the moderators, but more about Chris.

What everyone did with the horses ass picture (myself included) was make light of a ridiculous situation. Well basically I'm agreeing with what Paula said a few posts up.

This seems to me to be blown so ridiculously out of proportion.

My intent is not to add to the grief you're getting..I appreciate you and the other mods, but I've also noticed that one mod in particular (you know who I'm talking about) has seemingly caused more trouble lately than kept people out of it...

I'm not trying to cause more trouble, this is just the observation I've made.

I agree completely. It seems an extreme measure for something that is little more than a joke. And really from what I've heard the original request about the sig pic was made as a mod, not a friendly "do you mind removing it..."

I saw the message and yes it was VERY respectful and in no way deserved the snarky backlash. I think people's perceptions are being colored by things in the past.

Also, there is fun and funny and then there is having fun by deliberately trying to piss people off. That's not fun for everyone is it?

I'm a bit confused cos Carrie changed one of her Sig Pics yesterday because I said I was sad about the fact that it seemed like she didn't want this particular cat. In fact it was early in the morning here and I think I'd misunderstood what she said but she changed it straight away - that very second!

She just isn't unreasonable in my experience - not at all!

People were banned for a sig pic? Really??? Shouldn't they have been at least warned if their behaviour was deemed mocking and disrespectful? This is crazy.Well, I suppose we could have asked them to remove their sig pics... but since this all started because someone was asked to change their sig pic, would that request be honored or would we have just had to deal with a new set of snarky sig pics?

No one's an innocent victim here. Everyone who had that pic in their signature knew why it was there and for whom it was meant. Sure, they were having "fun," but it wasn't innocent fun.

This will probably be the grumpiest thing I've ever said here, but I have a lot of **** going on in my life right now... my mother's health problems, my grandmother is now in the hospital, stress at work... and right now all I want to do is have a fun few days with my boyfriend while he's here from California. But, no, I have to waste my time playing mediator because ADULTS can't refrain from acting like little babies.

I don't wish ill on anyone, but may all your problems be as small and petty as not being able to post on a message board for a couple of days.

Sorry but why did she change her sig pic a few hours earlier for me but wouldn't for the Mod? Was it they way in which the request was made? Legitimate question Moderator.

I saw the message and yes it was VERY respectful and in no way deserved the snarky backlash. I think people's perceptions are being colored by things in the past.

Also, there is fun and funny and then there is having fun by deliberately trying to piss people off. That's not fun for everyone is it?

Actually, I saw it too and it wasn't exactly pleasant, Suze. You can say please and thank you and still take a tone. I like the people involved, but it seems silly more than anything else. Silly. What is offensive and disgusting about horse teeth? It wasn't genitals or a necropsy photo. Sure its goofy to make the statement, via sig pic, "What is worse, looking at the horse's ass or his dirty teeth?" Nonetheless, I perceive it is silliness, not snarkiness, not "disrespect" and not hostile. The whole thing is funny. The initial situation is ridiculous. The secondary situation was funny and even more ridiculous.

The energy has really taken a turn here. Obviously, people do behave like kids on a playground at times - in their actions and reactions. There have been little tempests in this teapot since I joined. But very little in the way of outright hostility or significant aggression. There are spats, but not conspiracies and full scale wars. Its all burr in the saddle kind of stuff, with very rare exceptions.

Regardless, it seems to me like there is a high level of disgust and contempt towards some posters from some mods. I am glad people volunteer to moderate. I am certain it is thankless. I could never make the distinction between my personal feelings and the rules. Such a skill is obviously required to do it well. Maybe people are just getting burned out on it.

Nevertheless, if someone starts wanting to kill the 6 year olds, time to quit the teaching job.

That's quite an assumption of intent. I didn't read it that way at all, and I am a snarky SOB. I thought it was just a "Okay, is the butt less disgusting than the crusty teeth?"

But as far as the FAQs go, I guess the large scale agreement about the silliness and susbsequent sig pic adding could be interpreted as a personal attack. More of a joke that an attack, but all in the eye of the beholder I suppose.

Let's face it - you're a reasonable and intelligent man and the 'super moderator'. Wouldn't the Board be better with Carrie, Michelle and Michael ( even though he's from New Zealand:D ) back and you sort this out privately with those people. Also, there is fun and funny and then there is having fun by deliberately trying to piss people off. That's not fun for everyone is it?

So, you know for sure that it was done specifically to disrespect Chris' moderator status & make her mad? Not just because it was funny & Carrie questioned what else might be deemed offensive? Would people have been banned if they had posted a horse's eye? That could have been perceived as "I have my eye on you, Chris!" A cow udder? "I'm udderly pissed at you, Chris!" Human teeth, to gross her out? Seriously, draw me a line so I know not to cross it.

I don't wish ill on anyone, but may all your problems be as small and petty as not being able to post on a message board for a couple of days.

Hey, hey, hey! Nobody's claiming that everyone involved is innocent. But to ban someone temporarily (without any warning or explanation, btw) for being snarky? I've never been one to scream "censorship" or bitch about free speech, because I'm aware that this is a private board, but this is going just a bit too far, IMO. Everyone has the ability to disable sigs, right? So DISABLE them if you don't want to look at it. It would be different if the pic were controversial, or containing nudity or something like that. But it didn't. Personal preference & all that.

Can you imagine if people started PMing other members every time they didn't like someone's sig for no real reason? "Hey, I hate the Golden Girls, please change your sig." "Hey, Stevie looks fat in your sig pic, I don't want to look at it." "Hey, it appears to me that your sig pic is snarky. Please cease & desist from using it." WTF.

And sorry about your personal life - I'm sure (well, I hope) most of us have something more important than all of this going on in our lives right now. I'm quite sure that no Ledgie wishes YOU any ill will. But you're not forced to be a mod, you decided to take on that responsibility & all that comes with it. So you can cut the martyr crap, it doesn't become you.

I'm also amused that you think we're pissed because our little friends can't post right now. That's not it at all. Something was done that we believe was strange & unfair, and we decided to let other Ledgies know about it - if only so people can be careful what they post. I would have honestly never thought that the photo in question would get anyone banned. If I had been here this past weekend, I would have put it in my sig too, never thinking twice. Didn't break any rules that I'm aware of, so I would never have dreamed that would do it. These offenders should have received warnings first, a certain amount of time to remove the photos from their sigs. But that wasn't done & I still don't get why.

I suppose you'd have to ask Carrie that.
Of course, it should be said that she did change her pic... but she changed it to one that illustrated what she thinks of the moderator in question.

Really? Is this according to Carrie? She told you that she put a pic in her sig of a horse's behind because she thinks Chris is an ass? Interesting THEORY, Stew. Not fact. I'm offended by you, a moderator, posting your own assumption and implying that it's a fact, that you know that's what she did & why she did it. And I'm not being sarcastic or snarky at all. I mean it, that is bull****!

But you've got to see things in the round and at the end of the day the woman is bloody funny and makes it worthwhile coming onto this site. I can only go on my own experience and when I politely suggested that I wasn't keen on something she moved it! I think a polite request to consider the suitability of somehting is better than asking someone to remove something 'disgusting'.

This is a private board. We (used to) moderate it. If we don't like something then buh bye. That's just the way that it is here. Maybe you'll want to take that whole issue up with the next crop of moderators.

And why did Ethan never receive a strike or temporary banning for breaking the FAQ three different times by starting threads that contained the contents of outside emails (twice) or the copied contents of an entire thread at 7W (once)?

Moderator tone issues aside (which is subjective at best), the underlying issue is and always has been selective FAQ enforcement.

I think it is really obvious that the picture of a horse's ass was not a way of saying that Chris is a horse's ass. It was a protest against the ridiculous hoopla about a picture of horse's teeth. It's basic use of humor to protest.

My god, people are allowed to talk about felching, I can say the word f*k all the time as long as I use an *, a troll is allowed to come in the Stevie forum and post for the specific purpose of riling up Stevie fans, and someone is allowed to start endless threads about the same thing (himself) and nothing is done. But someone uses a little humor to point out the absurdity of asking them to delete a picture of horse's teeth and all hell breaks out.

I'm a firm believer of no moderating. People have the capacity to moderate for themselves. But if there is to be moderating, then at least be consistent, fair, and have a shred of humor. Yes, moderators are volunteers, but they did sign up for the job.

I'm sure I will be banned for this...temporarily or permanently. But this whole thing is nonsense.

There has been no consistency from day one from a select group of moderators. It is ridiculous to arbitrarily hand out strikes and bannings. This whole thing is wack and once again, someone who a mod did not like, was given a temporary banning. That? Is bull****.

I personally don't want to see Chris and Suze leave either. I think it's ****ty the snarkiness and petty bull**** that goes on around here anymore. That's why I basically keep quite anymore, and I've been on here a long time. It's almost not fun anymore.

Thank you. :xoxo: It's that people don't see this that makes me feel crazy. I don't have the time to deal with it anymore.

It is in the guidelines not to take up issues with mods on the boards. It should always be done privately. Carrie could easily have just left the pic in her sig if she really had an issue with that. Because it was a REQUEST. Instead she took it to the boards with her fake I'm sorry thread for attention and to gather up the pack.

We could have issued many strikes and bans on taking issue with the mods to the boards alone in the recent past. But we don't. The culture here has always been to let a lot of things go until we see an escalation, or someone complains. I guess that's just not a good fit for me because I like a bit more structure. I'll speak for Chris as well and say the same is true for her. We just found that very frustrating and perhaps others will be more effective than we can be.

Your comment has been privately echoed to me by far more people than you know. They feel that it's pretty much anarchy over here and I'm just at a loss as what to do about it. And when you do try to do something about it, this is the end result...because it's effin' anarchy.

I'm sorry that you can't deal with us anymore Suze. You know that I like you a lot as a person & consider you a friend. I think you've been a very fair moderator in general.

BTW, Carrie did attempt to contact Chris privately - after the teeth & before the butt - but never received a response.

That being said, I'm done with this situation. It's silly & stupid & I'm embarrassed that it bothers me so much & that I've spent so much time posting about it. If mods feel they can't do their job anymore, then I guess they'll have to quit. I don't blame them really, I sure as hell wouldn't want to do it. Hopefully the next group (any volunteers? ) can all remain impartial & fair, and enforce the Ledge rules the same way for every single member here.

Very well said, Paula!

Suze, Ryan, JonnyStew - you all have been very fair and impartial on the boards - and Chris has been very helpful to me in matters I took to her in private - but not as impartial on the boards - I don't mean that as a slam - it's just an observation and I can also say that I KNOW I couldn't do it....so I know it must be a hard row to hoe!

So with that...I'm sorry that this has come to the point it has - in the light of a new day it does seem rather ridiculous, and I am also done with it...though I am sorry to hear that several Ledgies are thinking of leaving for good...:distress:

Yeah, what's up with that? Not that I want Jazzy banned, but it doesn't seem fair, now does it? Selective enforcement anyone? That's not correct... Jason was temporarily banned right alongside the others. Not sure why you both think he wasn't.

I had it in my sig too and I wasn't banned either :shrug:I didn't see it in your sig, Sharon, or, unfortunately, you would have been temporarily banned, too.

I want the record to show that pretty much everyone who was banned yesterday, are people I consider to be friends. In some cases, very good friends.
It wasn't something I enjoyed doing or that I took lightly, but I will admit publicly, here and now, that I do think I over-reacted. Certainly something needed to be done, and quickly, but perhaps that wasn't the best decision on my part. And, for that, I apologize.

Hopefully the moderators and I can make it right and we can all move forward.

You guys should check out some of the boards on the net if that's the case, this place is positively mild in comparison.

No joke. I guess I understand wanting a family-friendly environment but it's like.. if kids are gonna be on forums, they should be on kid forums anyway. Most of the time, it's just like having to zip your lips in front of your parents for no other reason than old people don't like dirty words unless they're using them their-own-damn-selves. I'm not trying to be offensive.. that's just how I see it.

I have a very hard time censoring myself in real life... and a triple hard time doing it online.

It was brought to my attention that, for some reason, Jason (Jazmen Flowers) still apparently had posting privileges for a time on Monday.

I have no idea why this would be so, since he was banned at the exact same time as everyone else, and the bans were effective as of 2pm EST yesterday.

As I said above, Sharon wasn't banned because I didn't see that she had the pic in her signature. If I had, she would have been banned, too. The same holds true for anyone else I may have missed.

I just wanted to make it clear that I wasn't playing favorites in any way... and, certainly, I'm good friends with the majority of the people who were temporarily banned yesterday. Or, at least, was -- who knows what any of them think of me now.

At any rate, the bans have been lifted and apologies have been sent out.

Hopefully despite this snafu, we can all move on. And I promise that I'll be extra careful in the future to not make any further rash decisions.

Just don't assume that means you'll be able to walk all over me. ;) ;)

Well, someone must FINALLY be watching out for Debbie Ann & myself.

After yesterday's 'death' of my beloved 1996 Nissan Sentra GXE (Nicknamed "The Wildlife Eradicator" for Deb's penchant of splatting large wildlife in it) it seemed we were going to be majorly FUBAR'd since we only owned that one car and had no money ($$$) saved up in the bank (Medical bills killed our life-savings).

I felt it was to the point where I would have to selloff my entire music collection to be able to pay a down payment on a used car. Usually in these situations I have MAJOR panic attacks - to the point where suicide thoughts would enter my warped mind, but I tried to stay positive and figured that after surviving March 2005, March 2007 cannot be that bad.

Well, with a little luck and some type of 'divine intervention' (Who knows  ) we were able to buy a very good used car (2000 Ford Escort SE - A red, err, Maroon car - Sorry, but just like the guy in the Kurt Russell movie "Used Cars" I cannot drive a red car) for no money down, so at least we are mobile for now.

And how I didnt lose hope this time is a mystery I cannot figure out.

my Mom said that too, That's why I tried to not panic too much.

But there's a good news/bad news ending to our story:

Good news: We have a car that runs and we can somewhat afford the payments - so we are not FUBAR'd (My music collection, for now, remains safe)

Bad news: Any chance of seeing Stevie Nicks/Chris 'Eye Sack" is out the window (Cant afford tickets now with a new car payment to pay)

Oh well, it's just a concert - 2-3 hours to help one escape the stress of everyday life - Not as important in the main scheme of things.

I have never seen a bigger bunch of crybabies in my life.

Where are we, Romper Room and Billy Joe is complaining to the big bee that Little Bobby drank his juice

Here is my take:

1. The horse's ass was posted as a direct insult to Chris. Anyone who now is equivocal on intent is full of shiitte. If you had the sand to post it, don't be a pu$$$y when called on it. You laid the fukcing card, now play it.

2. The selective posting of private PM’s is bullshiite and taking things out of context as this pissing war has been going on for months if not years in some cases.

3. The temporary banning was way over the top, as Stew said. But, what is done is done. Hopefully people can get over it.

4. Chris resigned and apologized. What the fukc else do people want? Maybe we should hog tie her and beat the living shiitte out of her. Would that suffice

In the end, you get what you give in life and all I see here is persecution, which is beneath all of us.

On a personal note, I have been stabbed in the back by more than one person on this board and on other boards. I have had people put words in my mouth and swear I said it. Moreover, I have had people accuse me of doing things I would never do in an effort to meet FM. Fortunately, at all of these times I was with more than one person who could vouch for me that the lies were just that. I have had people try to get money out of me by concocting BS stories. I suggest these actions are far worse than a moderator treating you in what you think is an unfair fashion. Yet, I shook off that BS and am friends with many of the same people who fukced me over. I think many around here could learn from that little parable because I have seen nothing here that comes close to approaching a life altering, unforgivable event

On a final note, if you want to go, then go. I think you an idiot for doing so because, and again, the naysayers protagonist is nullified. Here’s a suggestion. Instead of leaving, why not put your name in the hat to be a moderator. Let’s see how fair and impartial you are – or if you are willing to let the past go.

Tone = straight forward and pulling no punches.

no one who posted it has had a chance to equivocate and be a pussy about it, atticus. the ban was just lifted a few hours ago. nice try, though. paula and sparky were only trying to offer another perspective because it was unfair of johnny stew, a moderator, to present his opinion as fact.

I think people have accurately pointed out that there has been some hypocrisy and unfair application of guidelines/rules/punishment. Perhaps, and even likely, not intentional on the moderators' part. However, I've often laughed at how this is supposedly a moderated board but conversations about bare beavers and felching go on for days. So there is some absurdity in the idea of a moderator wanting a picture of horse's teeth removed given all the other stuff that is allowed.

You see a direct insult to Chris, I see the use of humor to point out total absurdity. We can disgree on this. I don't think you are full of shiite, I just disagree.

I would be willing to serve as a moderator since I've spoken up about this.

But, I get that it was humorous as well. In the end, the people who put that pic in their posts did so in an attempt to bait Chris. It worked. Such is life. My point is, if you do something like that, do not be surprised when the party intended to be offended is

Well, I've sat and read a lot of stuff on here recently and I wasn't going to post but I changed my mind about an hour ago..

I've read most of what has gone on with a sense of distain and yet part of me thinks its pretty funny that this behaviour goes on unchecked..

This forum has a minority of anti conformists that take every opportunity to disrupt a thread or to throw some bait out to try and tempt a reaction from another member. Some of it is gang mentality and some is just down to plain old fashioned psychologcal issues (I'm waiting for the denials to come along)..

As I recently blogged, I used to love reading the various threads about the band in question. I'm an old member now, dating back to 2001, which in cyber terms is ancient, in fact I would say the average posting life on here is about 5 years. There really was (and still is) some good information and the members had such great knowledge. Sure there were arguements but most were settled in an appropriate manner. Most members enjoyed a laugh and the general feeling was a positive one. It was a good place to hang out in the virtual world and it was a pleasure to log on.

Now its rather like stepping into a war zone. It's more like Beirut or Baghdad. Its principally due to the band really... First they have a mammoth world tour which results in many new fans and members on the boards. Then they do nothing which creates unrest. From a position of distance, which is what I have today, I feel compelled to give my objective view. Its a shame its come to this. As I recently noted, its like finding one of the loves of your life is now an abusive crack whore in denial.

Unfortunately the band and its music has taken a back seat and are playing second fiddle. The boards have become both overtly crude due to too much sexual innuendo and smut from people that really should know how to behave better and if its not that its all abuse and gang culture. There can be no criticism anymore without a torrent of abuse and bile directed at the person that isn't afraid to question a thread it seems. Sadly this has become a game where various individuals with too much time on their hands for their own good scour the threads looking for their next victim like a pride of lions. Its rather pathetic and smacks of childishness and petulance.

Its certainly not an uncommon thing. It happens in daily life too. Not everybody can articulate their points without resulting to cheap shots or abuse. While its easy to remember that abusers have generally been abused themselves in some form, be it verbally, physically or sexually and rebel as a natural defense mechanism there can be no justification for it to continue without warning or moderation.

What happens judging from what I read is the crap starts in the Chit Chat section and then spills over into the main forums where you find an interesting thread is quickly hijacked into a smut laden and aggressive posting point for the usual suspects. Some of them I remember as bad apples from before but I'm surprised that others that should know better seem to have joined in. Perhaps its the gang theory, I'm not sure. If you join in you won't get victimised yourself I would suspect. Who knows? I'm not particularly impressed either way. I'm also not impressed by the way nobody seems to give a crap about the fact guests, many of which are children read this stuff. Not that anybody these days seems to consider that when they post bad language and smut on a site that was not set up for primariliy adult content. IMO Chit Chat needs to be restructured or deleted. There is too much focus on non Fleetwood Mac topics for a Fleetwood Mac board. Of late that particular forum has been shown to be the root of the problems. Take it away and you take away most of the problems.

I find it highly insulting to Marty and to Lis that these antics seem to carry on. They worked damn hard to set this place up and to be informative. Not only that, they continue to fund this place for the love of the band. What the hell do guests, media and even the band think of this crap when they come and browse?

As for the whole moderator issue. Well yes, some things were out of order but everybody is human. Mistakes get made. Thats life. Those poking sticks would do well to remember that the moderators give their own time and assistance for free to keep this place from anarchy. The Ledge has recently lost one of its most balanced and caring moderators (and before I get attacked I'm not even talking about Chris here) and I'll be surprised if others don't follow. Look at the state of this place. If I was a moderator I would seriously question if it was worth continuing. They don't get praised enough for the work they do so that you guys can all continue to interact.

Even this past week a member took their own time and money and help from a moderator to set up a quiz. They didn't have to do that. They really didn't. Yet even something with such goodwill and positive sentiment was questioned and comments were made.

I'm sorry if some individuals are having a tough life, or they have personal issues, or they never fulfilled their dreams. Life is not easy. But try and focus that energy in a positive way instead of spitting bile at others.

I'm really disheartened by the fact that good people have been driven away by the lunatic fringe. So many regulars have left. Christy and Pattie have gone now too. I don't want to read about sexual innuendos and hatred on a website intended for a rock band and unfortunately I'm not honorable enough to keep my mouth shut and move on as I was intending to do..

If the worst case scenario happened and the owners decided the forum is defunct in the nature it was intended for and was closed what will happen? All those interesting threads would be lost. The good natured people and the decent qualities of this forum would be lost. The parasitic individuals that seem to be pre-programmed for self destruction will take this place with them. It will close and they will go and infect another board. It reminds me of Ghostbusters II when a river of slime overtook NYC. Everybody became assholes becuase of the ill feeling. I see a parallel.

So what will happen now is the protagonists will go into denial or as is the case in most psychological scenarios act innocent and deny they are the accusers. Or of course play the "blame somebody else" card.

Feel free to launch your attacks.

It would depend if that person complained. If they did in a PM to the person posting it and that person told them to piss off, then likely the moderators would get involved.

But, I think it is important to see the whole picture, which is this goes way beyond the single event of posting the pic of the horse's a$$. This has been going on for awhile and on more than this board.

No attack, but I do feel you're wrong on that point. Even when this place was just one huge, long forum, it was riddled with this stuff. If not more of this stuff. And fan-fic.. blech. You can't imagine the drama until you've seen the fan-fic ledgie controversies.

But seriously. Even after the board was divided by topics, OT threads made their way to the individual member boards. IMO, having a chitchat board was the best solution, because the people who are here for JUST band related stuff can cruise the topic forums with relatively little drama.

Maybe chit chat should just be renamed to The Underground, or War Zone. Enter at your own risk. It clearly states that it is for discussions not related to FM. Any time you have a forum with people becoming friends and groups of friends, you're going to have these problems. You can have them in the band boards or you can have them here. But you're going to have them somewhere. Regardless of the individual user names. This world is not a peaceful place. I don't know why we all want to get on here and act like it is.. that a group of almost 4,000 people can get along as smooth as chocolate pudding pie just based on the fandom of one band. Completely unrealistic, given that we've chosen a band as dramatic as FM in the first place. ;)

There has been talk of the suggestion of deleting Chit Chat. While I'm not pleased with that suggestion, it's ultimately up to Marty and Lisa. My fear is that the off topic stuff will just spill into all of the other forums to the point where you'd be hard-pressed to find actual information and conversation on whatever forum you're in.

Of course I guess that's where moderating comes in...

A lot of people have just stated that they're leaving...after a sh*t storm like this there is usually a bit of calm. I hope that if that's the case that Christy and Pattie (and YOU) and others will return as I miss their presence...

I would say it clearly needs to be looked at. If it was just a case of a member not browsing Chit Chat then thats fine, thats a choice. The problem comes from when personal battles and differences spill over and manifest themselves in Band topics. It happens with regularity. Maybe a solution would be to post an adult content notice for Chit Chat and any posts deviating too much from the set topics or openly hijacking threads in the other "Band" forums would be subject to deletion. It would be hard to enforce and always open to protests but the Moderators decision should be final. Like it or leave.

I'm more concerned about the casual viewer and the children browsing that don't get the "in" jokes or are offended by the language and innuendo. I'm sure there are many members here that would be horrified if their kids read some of the posts on the boards.

I'm an old member now, dating back to 2001, which in cyber terms is ancient, in fact I would say the average posting life on here is about 5 years

there's not many of us fossils left on here...Seems when some reach that 5 year mark *POOF* they simply disappear.

Christy (Who I see as a younger sister) & Pattie simply went *POOF* and that is sad to see. I miss reading their views here in Ledgie-land.

My reasoning? I want to. Is the periodic LINDSEYLINDSEYLINDSEY post troublesome for you?
I know this was directed towards chuck, but I'll answer also-no. Since it's been closed.

First off. I find it overly hypocritical for a message board where over half of it's members (including mods) take every opportunity to "stick it to the man" or buck the system when it comes to our president, but when it comes down to it here, it's all "oh...you must respect my authority". Granted, I don't like Mr. Bush just like you guys don't. Then there are certain mods I don't like  But you tell me (and everyone) you are the ones in power and we just have to deal with it. I'll make sure to use that arguement next time I hear a bush rant.

Second. I am deeply saddened by the fact suze has resigned as moderator. I have nothing but the utmost respect for you, suze and I wish you wouldn't leave as moderator, but I understand as well.

third. Most of the signature concept came out of im. carrie told me what happened. I said if they thought a picture of horse's teeth would be disgusting, I wonder what would be thought of a horse's ass. in addition to that, many people followed suit just by seeing the sig. I admit, I sent out a few pm's and here is the UNedited version of one, for you strand. I'm sorry, I only have one since I went through and cleaned house on my pm box that night.

hey the reason I am pm'ing you is because of our signatures

carrie posted a pic this morning of the horse's mouth and was asked to remove it by chris. Ridiculous.

so then she started the "so sorry" thread, apologizing for offending anyone. according to chris, it was gross and everyone would be offended

so. the apology thread got deleted Imagine that.
so we are putting the below picture in our sig. you can add your own caption. that is, if you want
anyway. if not. hope you're doing well

actually, it IS edited, because when I copied/pasted it, it removed smilies. I also edited the word "offended" because I had a typo.

no where does it say..."hey..we are calling chris a horse's ass" . I can't vouch for all 12 people (was it 12?? I can't keep track) and their reasoning for putting it in their sig. Some people, I'm sure, were putting it in there for that. Others just thought the whole thing was ridiculous. Others probably thought.."hey!!! we all need a horse's ass in our sig!!! " whatever. I sent out 3 other PM's, but they all basically said the same thing.

With that said, I doubt I will leave the ledge. I knew what I was getting into when I posted that pic and I dealt with the consequences. So I'm not ready to leave yet, but if no one is left to talk to around here.... who knows.

thanks for posting that. But, certainly you all could not have known that it would be taken as equating Chris to a horse's a$$. To me, it is patently obvious.

But and in any event, you all did it as a screw you to Chris. She reacted. If you all are shocked by that, then I have to say I am at a loss to understand why. Many of you all have been at her for a very long time. Equating her to a horse's as$$ likely was the last straw. It would be for me in that situation.

In the end, she stepped down. Whoever wanted that has won.

So, I say let's put it in the past and move on.

Again and to the point of sounding like a broken record - I like all parties involved and hope people stay.

Its like most scenarios in life. Eventually you move on. But there is a difference from moving on and away and the feeling you are being forced out by unpleasantness and triviality.

As for my comments about the behaviour and language. I'm not prudish and I can swear with the best of them (right Paula? Remember your English lessons? ). Its interesting that some other forums I post on that remain happy and carefree environments for posting have rules to avoid particular subjects such as politics or income etc. An example is :

As you all know, ***** prides itself in being the friendliest board on the internet. With more and more members joining everyday, I feel its time we have to do this dirty deed of setting some ground rules. I know this goes without saying in most cases, but I want to make sure that everyone that visits us will feel as welcome as our veteran members.

For you guys that know me, you know that I really really hate being the bad guy. However, I (and the other mods) WILL BAN members that don't follow these simple rules.

1. NO PERSONAL ATTACKS OR INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE (and I MEAN IT). We love to joke around here but, the joking stops as soon as someone stops laughing.

2. RESPECT THE OPINION AND CHOICES OF OTHERS. Example: If someone puts their *** ***** ****, that's their business. Clicking the back button on your browser is very simple, besides its not like you have to *** it......

3. THIS IS **** AND NOT <INSERT OTHER FORUM NAME HERE>. Don't bother bringing in disputes that start elsewhere into ****. Mods will just delete those threads. Please keep thread topics in correct forum they will be moved if not.

4.FORUM IS NOT TO BE USED FOR ANY OWN OR COMMERCIAL ENTERPRISE WHATSOEVER UNLESS WITH FULL ADMIN PERMISSION.

5. MODERATORS, ADMINISTRATOR,DECISIONS ARE FINAL.
Relating to all **** members, and posting topics, and all
issues and complaints.

Second. I am deeply saddened by the fact suze has resigned as moderator. I have nothing but the utmost respect for you, suze and I wish you wouldn't leave as moderator, but I understand as well.

I think its saddening and a huge loss to the members of this site that one of the most balanced and thoughtful Mods this place has ever had has stepped down. But I fully back her and respect the decision 100%. She has given a lot to this place and deserves a rest. Again, there is only so much juice a moderator has too.

make the chit-chat forum an adult forum

I left here a couple of times (Ill-fated of course) and like a bad penny I turned up again. Enjoyed way too manies (Is 'manies' even a word???) company to have left/stayed away in the first place. I never felt any pressure to leave, I just up and left did other things (Geez, How many hardcore Fleetwood Mac fans listen and enjoy Death/Black metal, betcha there's only a few in the world...) and came back rejuvenated enough to hang around some more.

I'm hoping Christy & Pattie are just recharging their batteries (I know I have PM'd Christy a few times in regards to Keith Urban concert tickets) and come back soon, place seems odd without their presence.

Apparently, and unbeknownst to me until recently, Chris/gldstwmn has a reputation for being a heavy-handed moderator (or something). I saw the PM that Chris initially sent to Carrie and honestly thought it could've been worded differently, but in and of itself I don't see that it was such a big deal. The subsequent "so sorry" thread was obviously a middle finger to Chris, and Carrie and others I am sure knew that it would be deleted, and that some sort of action would be taken, re: the horse's behind pictures.

Not that I'm trying to tell the moderators how to moderate, but...if you had let the thread alone (yes, I realize it was against the rules) it probably would've played out and things would not have escalated. But especially with the banning thing, I think you guys played right into the hands of the people who think you're heavy-handed and not impartial.

Honestly, I've never had a problem with Chris, however I think that if her moderating philosophy is one of "if I don't like something, then buh bye" rather than enforcing the rules regardless of what she likes or dislikes, then she does indeed need to step down.

This whole thing is really stupid, and I hope that everyone will please try to put it in perspective. This is far from something to leave the Ledge over, and it's certainly no reason to close the Chit-Chat forum.

I don't think this Moderator issue is a reason to close Chit Chat. Its just another pile of baggage on an already loaded luggage truck.

Childishness and bickering are fundamental parts of the forums over the years. They rear their ugly heads every now and again. I remember the old attacks on Kristen due to her marrying Lindsey and ruining the 'shippers dreams. Her only problem was the misfortune for her she was not Stevie Nicks but as I recall the name calling about her got particularly nasty and way below the belt (and most of that was in the Nicks Forum).

Its just lately its taken a rather more sinister turn. A turn into gang culture mentality and scheming. It needs to be taken care of in a careful way and a considered way. It cannot continue if this site is to be taken seriously as a Fleetwood Mac resource.

I think that's overstating the case a little. There are certain people who like to challenge authority, and when they're given a reason to, they'll "kick it up a notch." It's childish, it makes this a less than pleasant place to be, and it needs to stop, but the way the moderators have been handling it (deleting threads, banning) only makes things worse.
