Things are looking bad for us right now - today was a holiday, but my boss just called me and said not to risk coming in tomorrow morning if it's icy, which it looks like it will be....the temp right now is 32, and it's gonna get lower overnight and thru Wed. Sleet and freezing rain on the way and possibly snow!!
I haven't gotten out of my jammies/sweats all weekend. I've got 3 fire logs left and I'm gonna save those in case I lose power...drinking lots of hot tea and just tryin' to keep warm.
What's going on in your neck of the woods? Stay safe, everyone!

There is an estimated 225,000 Oklahomans who have lost their electric, and still 122,000 without it at this time (7 people on the way from Arizona to North Carolina, died not far from here when their minivan skidded on ice, crossed the interstate median and was hit head-on by a semi-truck).
My hometown Muskogee was pounded by the ice, up to 4" (!!!) of it and the whole town lost power for a time over the weekend (Still 9,900 left in Muskogee without electricity). McAlester suffered the same fate, and is still without electricity.
The temp here is about 25 and will dip to 7 tonight, with windchills way below 0 (trust me, I was out in it today and it feels MUCH COLDER than the temperature makes it appear to be). Tomorrow night it will be even colder.
Sadly, the 6 PM news says another possible ice storm could be shaping up for this weekend (Which could be worse than the 1"-2" ice/sleet we received this weekend)...At least Deb is off this weekend so she wont have to stay the night over at the hospital as she did this weekend (We live 45 miles away from the hospital, and when the weather is bad I drive Deb to work & she stays over in patient rooms saved for employees during inclement weather.)
I can drive in the ice/snow/whatever, so I have no problems as others do...Hell, I was doing between 50-55 MPH today when most people in SUV's/pickups/hay bailers were driving about 30-40 MPH ( The only time you will see me driving faster than anyone is in winter weather...I am not intimidated by it.)
As long as I wont have to do anymore transmission work in the ice/sleet like yesterday I am happy (Thank God my Dad was an auto-mechanic of a higher caliber)

My workplace doesn't observe MLK, but we did close because of the ice. Looks like we may be closed tomorrow, too. I've basically just been playing Sims 2 all day...though tomorrow I'll probably be bored as hell.

It was 70 degrees here last week. I was running errands Friday nite without a jacket, and wearing sandals!
All the schools are closed tomorrow, including UT, which almost never happens. They're calling it a "conveyor belt of moisture," coming in over Mexico, until tomorrow evening. Since I'm gonna be cooped up another day, I wouldn't mind seeing some snow!

It's been the winter from hell here... we've had a major storm almost every week. In November we had the rainiest month ever recorded, in December we had a snow storm and then the worst wind/rain storm in 10 years... leaving over a million people in the seattle area without power. Last week we had another major snow storm... the temps have been in the 20s ever since... today is the first day above freezing in 4 or 5 days. I think this is the same storm that is causing problems in the rest of the country right now. Weird weather.

Well, so far, we have a dusting. It's still snowing, but they aren't predicting anything major. I had to bundle Sara up for the first time this winter. It's about 25 deg. with the wind chill around 15 deg.

Looks like tonight and tomorrow may be a little worse than last night and today. With our low temps, the roads (not just bridges and overpasses) are now getting ice accumulation, and the freezing rain/sleet isn't gonna stop until around noon tomorrow, so they say. We may get some snow overnight too. I'm getting cabin fever! I did go outside and walk around the neighborhood this morning, just after the really big snowflakes were falling, which was pretty, but it switched back to sleet after a few minutes.
No call from the boss today re: work tomorrow, but I'm assuming the same rules still apply, and I'll be staying home again.

there were some snow flurries this morning, and again it is cloudy outside (Thank God for that).
The sleet on the ground this weekend has turned into a "hard ice-rink" like setting. It very slippery just going out to retrieve the mail from the mailbox (I used the rake and cross-patterned a path to the mailbox & to the trashbin to avoid either Debbie or myself biting the wenie on the ice)
The weather forecast keeps changing because the latest (Before the upcoming Noon broadcasts) is that this coming weekend will be worse than last weekend...God I love winter!!!

Just heard that 6000 people here are without power due to more ice accumulation on trees over power lines. I flipped when I saw the tree in my front yard this morning - yesterday, the ice was just on the tops of the branches - now they are fully encased in ice. Icicles around my roof are longer today and there appears to be ice on my driveway, yesterday it was just wet. I'm gonna bundle up and check out the neighborhood again, and then take a nice, hot bath!
Our temp is supposed to get above freezing today...we'll see....

just showed a stat that there is still 90,000 people in Oklahoma today without power, Most in the rural districts will be without power for the coming weeks (Some could possibly be without power for months, as was the case during the 2002 ice storm).
I feel for those folks, 'cause this approaching storm front (Which is over Los Angeles at this moment) this weekend will dump between 5"-10" of snow onto the already frozen ground.
It will be awhile before anything thaws out in these here parts...Just think, in a couple of months it will be tornado season.

That's a disaster. This morning they reported milk with be on the $$ rise as well due to the lack of natural feed from farm fields. Cows will be feed purchased hay which is apparently on the $ rise too. :distress: Of course, this is cali so I would imagine there are even worse issues elsewhere.

is the most sought after item for ranchers in this part of the US.
What's worse is that the drought had already made hay scarce, but the winter blast has made it even more rare. Ranchers are selling off their herds since it is less expensive than trying to obtain hay/feed for the herds.
Today is the first day since last Thursday/Friday that the temp has been above freezing, Too bad that will be short lived.

We're starting to thaw - the ice and icicles coming off the roof of our office sounds cool - and it looks like it's raining, w/ everything dripping. However, anything turning liquid now could re-freeze tonight.
But, damn, why don't people thaw their vehicles before driving them? I saw giant sheets of ice flying off rooftops and hoods of vehicles going over 35 mph. I was smart enough to keep my distance, and lucky I didn't get hit w/ anything!

:wavey: *brrrrrrr! I actually have to wear something other than a tank top in my house in the winter! *
It's not that bad, we're not dying. For me it's like the winters in the place i grew up, and I hardly think 35 degrees or so will kill me.
But since we grow so much produce compared to other states, that part does suck really hard. That is gonna cost us.
It has been really sunny and clear, though, so that is pleasant.

35 degrees is virtually a heatwave for me!! I love reading these boards but a combination of the time difference and the logistics of getting a decent internet connection between here and the UK (where my internet provider is)make it pretty impossible for me to post. However I'm just about to leave for work and it is just around minus 25 degrees now (out of the wind). It will get a bit colder in a few hours time. You just don't know what cold is!

Seriously. Yesterday in Chicago we had a high of 1. Windchill -32. Right now it's 1, feels like -14. Our office building is freezing- I'm wearing two sweaters, a scarf, thick handknit socks, and a pair of fingerless gloves I made this weekend and I am still freezing my ass off.

It's about 20-something outside, but the wind is blowing between 20-40 MPH out of the North bringint the Artic air with it, so the windchill is much colder.
This morning it was gusting between 40-60MPH and it rained through the night, surprised it didnt snow (But it will on Valentine's Day).
I dont complain about the cold weather, cause I know summer is around the corner and then it will be in 100-110's daily - And I will complain! (Dont think I can take another summer of 40+day of temps over 100.)

60's and partly cloudy here. You guys in the snow and rain will get your revenge when it hits the 120's here this summer.

We got hit overnight, still going strong. I'd say we got around 8-10 inches total so far. That's not really unusual here - but it's really cold & windy, worse than usual. I think today it's about 15 degrees with a wind chill below 0.
I just can't keep warm, even inside. Last night while I was up watching TV I had on flanel PJ's, a big fleece robe/pouch-thingy and a wool blanket. Of course,my husband has on pajama pants & a Tshirt.

My property's perimeter is lined with pine trees. I've got broken limbs everywhere. My driveway is blocked with iced limbs(still attached to the trees). We pulled the limbs out of the way, and got my truck to the end of the 300' driveway, so I'll be parking by the road, and walking in, until it melts enuf for the limbs to lift themselves.
I FUKCING HATE WINTER.

I was wondering how you were doing down there. I see you have power, though, so that's positive! Stay safe!

We have about 3-4 inches of snow with rain coming down on top of that. This will likely ice over later, plus get snow on top of that ice, making for some insane road conditions.

^ OMG, you live on my street?
After all was said & done, we got between 8 & 16 inches, depending on the town. I'd say there's at least 10 inches at my house. At 8am it was -2, with a wind chill of -15.

We have you beat (Canadians win, naturally) - I think the windchill in Toronto & surrounding areas was abour -30. I don't know how much snow we actually got, but apparently we're getting more on the weekend.

We have about 10 inches of snow on the ground here. Up north, there is 17 inches. I'll see that tomorrow when I pick my stepdaughter up. I've seriously never seen that much snow.

Yeah, it's about 17 inches up here in Muncie. Where they are the slowest plowers EVER. Classes were canceled for two days, though, so I can't complain too much, I guess.

Everything in Connecticut is candy-coated by about six inches of frozen rain. You can literally walk on top of the snow without sinking in. Had a bitch of time getting the trash can out tonight. The think literally screeched across the snow, and every time it got stuck I had to manhandle it out of the snow. I bet the whole neighborhood heard me yelling "damn you!" at my garbage can!

Ya, my stepdaughter is in Tipton. Wish me luck tomorrow! And good luck to you! Be safe! The warm up is on the way!!!

Yeah, they're always jerks though. Which instance are you referring to? Their evil kids who don't listen? The fact that they leave their garbage bags out on the front porch for days at a time? Their tacky-ass rope-lighted flagpole in the backyard that people mistakenly think is mine? You gotta narrow it down a little bit. :D
EDIT: You mean the **** they pulled during the October storm, I believe. We've avoided them pretty successfully since then.

Right now it is snowing like crazy. The forecast is for blizzard like conditions until tomorrow and we could see up to 15" of snow.
