I found out a couple of weeks ago that Steve would be with Tom at the Dallas Venue...

Are you absolutely, positively sure?!? 'Cuz I don't wanna cough up a billion dollars on my credit card for scalper tickets only to get there and Stevie not be performing. I was gonna go see Tom anyway, but now "great-seat-ticket-urgency" comes into play. Please confirm that there is 100% no doubt that Stevie will be there ASAP!!! (Sorry, I'm freaking out now:sorry: )

Yeah, The Strokes are the opening band. Maybe the ad didn't mention Stevie because she doesn't have her own set.

Or maybe the press lied to everyone in the article I posted??

Or, like the NicksFix says, they are still trying to figure out which shows she will be able to attend, and then make an official announcement. Believe me, I understand everyone's impatience (mine as well), but at this point, what choice do we have?

At the St. Louis show, I talked to MANY people who had no clue Stevie was going to be there until it was announced on the radio THAT day. Despite the numerous articles in the press, and the NicksFix, confirming that she woud definitely be at the first 8 shows.

The radio ads in Atlanta are no announcing her at all, which seemingly is not a very good marketing gesture

Maybe she isnt going to be in Atlanta? Her dates haven't been confirmed yet, according to the Nicksfix. The classic Rock station here in Philly hasn't mentioned her either. :distress:

I really wouldn't take lack of advertising Stevie's appearance to mean that she isn't going to be there. First, she is probably still finalizing her schedule and doesn't want anything mentioned until she's a definite.

More importantly, I don't think they are going to do any heavy advertising of Stevie because so many people will get the wrong impression. If you didn't have the same info we have, and heard "special guest Stevie Nicks", you may very well think she is the opening act or at least doing more than a couple of duets. Which could lead to confusion and disappointment among some ticket buyers.

It's Tom's tour and, no offense to Stevie, he doesn't need her to sell tickets. I'll bet they start mentioning her on the radio once she confirms, but I'd be surprised to see any print ads announcing her.

who gets to attend a Tom Petty show (Be it with or without Stevie) should consider themselves lucky since he is YET AGAIN skipping the Oklahoma market (Tulsa & OKC).

Hell, I don't know. It was less than 200 for a pair. Like 175 or something ?

Funny, I was onstage there this weekend and the house looks tiny from the stage. Parking, however, is hellish. Fun to bring a picnic though.

Concert Previews
Some old stuff, some new and maybe surprises

By Patrick MacDonald
Seattle Times music critic

If you have tickets to see Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers on Sunday night at White River, you may get more than you bargained for, and you may get less.

On the first eight shows of the tour, which began June 9, Stevie Nicks was a surprise guest, joining in on a few songs, including her 1981 hit with Petty, "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around."

The band has announced that Nicks will be showing up for some dates on the second leg of the tour, which starts Saturday in Portland, followed by White River.

But even more intriguing is the possibility that another singer who joined the band for a few songs earlier on the tour could possibly do so again on Sunday. Because he lives here. And he's not doing anything right now.

Eddie Vedder sang "The Waiting" and "American Girl" with his longtime pal Petty when Pearl Jam opened four Petty & the Heartbreakers shows in late June and early July. Pearl Jam's U.S. tour ended last weekend with two shows at the Gorge, and the European/Australian leg doesn't start until Aug. 23 in Dublin, so Vedder has the time. Whether he has the inclination is another question. He may be there. And he may not.

You may not make it to the show either if you got your tickets from a scalper or from a Petty fan-club member who purchased pre-sale tickets through the club. More than 1,400 ticketholders have been turned away from various shows on the tour, according to Billboard, because they got their tickets in those unauthorized ways.

Peter Bogdanovich and crew may also be at White River, because the famous director is making a documentary about the band.

The show here will be the first since the release Tuesday of Petty's third solo album, "Highway Companion," so expect to hear songs from it, including the first single, "Saving Grace." Petty, at 55, tackles Big Questions on the new CD, such as aging, mortality and his legacy.

Petty says that this will be the band's last big tour, so they'll have to bring out the big guns, hits like "Breakdown," "Don't Do Me Like That," "Refugee," "Runnin' Down A Dream" and "The Waiting."

Tom Petty, MLB teaming up
07/28/2006 10:30 AM ET
By Doug Miller / MLB.com

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are on the road this summer, marking their 30-year anniversary by selling out halls all over the country and attracting big-name special guests and opening acts.
But that doesn't mean Petty doesn't have time to continue creating timeless American rock n' roll music.

He's done it once again with his third solo album, Highway Companion, and early reviews indicate it's among the best of his career.

As part of the celebration, Petty and Major League Baseball are teaming up to make Highway Companion available at MLB.com.

Petty and the Heartbreakers also performed the first single, "Saving Grace," for broadcast on rehearsals.com, the state-of-the-art behind-the-scenes Web site powered by the famed Southern California rehearsal space CenterStaging and MLB Advanced Media.

And all of this is being observed by famed film director Peter Bogdanovich, who is working on a full-length documentary about Tom and the Heartbreakers' classic tale of rock success.

"It's a great story that's very American, as I say, and the material, the music, continues to be terrific," Bogdanovich said in a recent interview with rehearsals.com. "Over 30 years, and I don't know how many hits they've had, but many."

There figure to be quite a few more from Highway Companion, which was produced with Jeff Lynne and features Petty playing many of the instruments, including drums.

"Saving Grace" has become more and more of a show-stopper on the summer tour.

At a recent tour stop in St. Paul, Minn., Petty introduced the number by saying "I really like this one," and he wasn't the only one.

From the John Lee Hooker-esque lead guitar riff that takes you back to Petty's Gainesville, Fla., rock roots to the cryptic lyrics, including the pivotal line, "You're confident but not really sure," it's a song that creeps into your subconscious the more you hear it.

The same goes for many of the other tracks on Highway Companion, including the plaintive ballad "Square One" and "Down South," a moving number that has some of Petty's most introspective lyrics in years.

"Create myself down south/Impress all the women/Pretend I'm Samuel Clemens/Wear seersucker and white linens," Petty sings.

"Chase a ghost down south/Spirits cross the dead fields/Mosquitoes hit the windshield/All documents remain sealed."

"I just think it's a classic," Bogdanovich says of "Down South."

"It's moody, reflective, it's got a beautiful tune and it's a very personal song, I think. He started in the South, his roots are there, and it's a beautiful ballad. I think it's very personal to him. I think it means a lot to him."

What also means a lot to Petty is the reception he's been getting on the road for his Highway Companion Tour.

He's been pulling out a good portion of his ever-growing hit catalog, with almost-nightly performances of classics "Listen To Her Heart," "You Don't Know How It Feels," "I Won't Back Down," "Free Fallin'," "Mary Jane's Last Dance," "Learning To Fly," "Don't Come Around Here No More," "Refugee," "Runnin' Down A Dream" and "American Girl."

Stevie Nicks has been and will be a special guest for much of the tour, contributing her legendary vocals to rare live songs "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around," "Insider" and "I Need To Know."

And the opening acts have been eclectic and brilliant, with former Phish frontman Trey Anastasio and Pearl Jam already having supported Petty, and the Allman Brothers Band, the Strokes, John Mayer, the Derek Trucks Band and Frank Black to come.

In other words, three decades after he started, it's still an exciting time to be a Tom Petty fan.

"Tom has been successful for 30 years because he's got an enormous amount of talent and an extraordinary determination, and a great sense of morality and ethics," Bogdanovich said.

"His music stands the test of time because it ... appealed to a lot of people from a lot of different places, a lot of different walks of life."

Dear Stevie Powers that Be,

Please don't let my husband find out I paid almost $350.00 for two tickets to a show you aren't confirmed for, because I only go 1st 10 rows for you and you alone. Well OK, Fleetwood Mac too, but is there a difference?

Also, please don't let him know that I still have two lawn tickets that I bought to see Tom that don't have an owner at this point and I might be eating another $100.00.

Please let what a little Stevie angel whispered in my ear two weeks ago be true, that the chances were 99 to 1 THAT YOU WOULD BE AT THE DALLAS SHOW!!!

Please let newspapers from all these freakin' northern states get their reviews out in a timely manner, like within hours of a show ending so I can tell that you were there.

Thank you for the Petty fans who are tossing out a few crumbs with photos and reviews no matter how hard they are to find and how many times you need to read them to make sure they know what they are talking about. (Some have Mike Campbell confused with Stevie because of his dreadlocks.)

Please let YOUR WEBSITE RELEASE DATES! Even with a disclaimer in great big bold letters saying THIS COULD CHANGE - DON'T BE PISSED OFF IF SOMETHING MUST CHANGE, BUT THIS IS WHAT WE ARE PLANNING ON. We might fuss a little, but really, it would help us so much.

Please be in Dallas in five days. Please be in Dallas in five days. Please be in Dallas in five days.

That is all. Thank you.

Except I don't have 2 extra tickets to eat. Have you tried selling them to a ticket broker? I've seen lawn seats for sale on all of their websites. I don't know how much they pay, but something is better than nothing. Just a thought.

Dear God: I've waited 25 years for this. Please let it happen. Please.

Last night I did find a site where a guy posted a ton of videos from Tom and Stevie shows. I don't know how I found the page and somebody cleared my history today but I remembered the site where I watched it. Somewhere on here you can see American Girl, Insider and others, but I can't find it now. I did find SDMHA and this goes back to the beginning of the tour in June, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

You do need to create an account at this site, but my daughter already had done that, so it did just play for me. If you want to see it and think it might be worth your time - here it is...

Petty delivers superstar set at White River Amphitheatre

Ernest A. Jasmin; The News Tribune
Last updated: July 31st, 2006 09:24 AM (PDT)

“Oh my my, oh hell yes” sounds about right.
A nearly full house of Tom Petty fans expected to see just one superstar when the rock legend and his backing band, the Heartbreakers, stopped by Auburn’s White River Amphitheatre Sunday night. But instead they got three big shots for their money when Fleetwood Mac’s Stevie Nicks and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder dropped in to lend a helping hand.

Nicks wasn’t a total surprise to anyone who had kept up with recent shows via the Internet. “Stevie’s been out on tour with us and we won’t let her go home,” Petty said after Nicks made her debut, 10 songs into the nearly two hour set, with “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” a song from her 1981 album “Bella Donna,” on which Petty appears. She stuck around for one more, characteristically twirling her skirt as she delivered her spunky rendition of “I Need to Know.” In true diva style, she would make a couple of outfit changes and be back for “Insider,” “Learning to Fly,” “Don’t Come Around Here No More” and the spectacular finale. But no sooner had Nicks sauntered offstage than Petty tossed another curveball. “I hear a lot of people sing our songs,” he said. “My favorite version of this is when Eddie Vedder sings it.”

Then out walked Vedder, freshly shaven since his band’s Pearl Jam headlining dates the previous weekend at the Gorge Amphitheatre. His well-received contribution was “The Waiting.” And he, too, would return. It was actually a reunion of sorts, since Petty and Pearl Jam had recently shared the stage when their tours intersected in Denver and St. Paul, Minn.

But it’s not as if Petty needed to bring out that sort of heavy firepower to get fans all riled up. He had the crowd all warmed up and in the mood by his lonesome, from the opening notes of “Listen to Her Heart.” And they only got more enthusiastic – dancing and belting out some of the most familiar lyrics in rock at their seats – as Petty & The Heartbreakers strolled through a set of feel-good classics that included “I Won’t Break Down,” “Free Fallin’,” “Learning Fly” and “Runnin’ Down a Dream.”

Petty even took a few minutes to pay homage to a few influences, playing the bluesy rocker “I’m a Man” (credited to the Yardbirds, but actually an amped up version of the Bo Diddley classic.) The band followed with a couple more covers, Fleetwood Mac’s “Oh Well” and The Traveling Wilbury’s “Handle with Care,” with guitarist and harmonica player Scott Thurston filling in nicely for the late Roy Orbison on the latter.

Petty played only two numbers from his excellent new album: ‘Highway Companion.’ The disc’s bluesy leadoff track “Saving Grace” appeared early on, after “Free Fallin,’” and stood up well next to the classics.

“Square One” was the other new song, which appeared during the semi-acoustic, ballad portion of the program. “This is one of my favorite songs I’ve written in a while,” Petty said, by way of introduction.

The encore -- which began with “You Wreck Me” and Van Morrison’s “Mystic Eyes” -- came to one of the most spectacular finale’s this critic has seen.

“Are you ready, people? Are you ready people?” Petty sang, like a preacher leading a revival. “I just wanna hear the loudest noise you can make, people.” Fans complied, screaming their lungs raw as the band shifted into “American Girl,” with Vedder and Nicks back onstage. Petty let Vedder sing a few early lines before Pearl Jam’s singer backed away, with a grin and a humble “we’re not worthy” wave of his hand, before the man of the hour took over.

Fans weren’t so shy, as they shouted back one of the most familiar and infectious choruses in rock history: “Oh yeah, all right/ Take it easy baby/ Make it last all night/ She was an American girl.” And with the final notes, Vedder punched clear through the tambourine he’d been banging, a huge smile on his face as one of the most satisfying shows of the season eased to a close.

Trey Anastasio opened the whole affair, heading a four-piece band that was also occasionally joined by a pair of backup singers. Songs like “Sweet Dreams Melinda” and “Dragonfly” grew from simple pop numbers into funky jams that kept clusters of their faithful up and dancing.

Tell me about it! I was there! I've been so out of the loop that I didn't even know that Stevie was still touring with him. I about ****e my pants when she came out. I had no idea. I'm sure this has already been discussed but I couldn't believe how much energy she had. That's the most energy I've ever seen her have at a show and that's including her own and FM shows. She was bouncing around and rocking out. It was totally awesome. I've been to about 5 TP shows and that one was by the far the best I've seen. I'm so glad I went.

So glad to hear that! I'm sure hoping to see some great things from her on the fm tour in 2007!

I am so THRILLED to see all of this fantastic information! That concert last night sounded, well, orgasmic is the only word that comes to mind. Sorry to anyone who might be offended. Wait - these are Ledgies - IT SOUNDED FREAKIN' ORGASMIC PEOPLE.

Good to see the Nicks Fix has the dates posted. You won't need to look for Nightbirdjel, Black Widow and I in shallow graves on Saturday!

And Stephanie - Sweetie, I haven't been to New Mexico since 1991. I was in Vegas last year though - maybe we met there? I had a friend with me who couldn't stop crying after Beauty and the Beast and I had to sit on the steps outside of the Ceasers auditorium for like an hour trying to get her to stop crying but I wanted to go outside and get some autographs but NO -I HAD TO BE A GOOD FRIEND. She so owes me.

Yes, and because of that I didn't get to see her. I'm not depending on her official site anymore. I'm really pissed off about this. Peg & I discussed if we were gonna go but since it wasn't confirmed yet and we didn't want to spent money on Tom Petty alone we decided not to go. If we had known we would've scraped all our money together and would have gone to the show. This sucks big time. I missed the Gold Dust Tour and now this.... unbelieveable!!!

What's not to like about Tom Petty?

By SHAWN TELFORD
SPECIAL TO THE P-I

This essay does not intend to answer the following question but begs the discussion: What is the cultural significance of Tom Petty?

TOM PETTY AND THE HEARTBREAKERS
WHEN: Sunday
WHERE: White River Amphitheatre

Sixteen Grammy nominations, four Grammy Awards, 15 albums on Billboard's Top 100, 15 singles on Billboard's Hot 100, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, member of the Traveling Wilburys with rock legends Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, George Harrison and Jeff Lynne, accolades and awards too numerous to mention, he stayed cool through the '80s without becoming a novelty and, most important, everyone just loves Petty.

OK, maybe not "love" love. Perhaps it's better to say that no one hates Petty. In fact, his appreciation goes from "Yeah, he's OK" to "I love him," but never "I hate him."

Why is that? This is an artist known for writing three-chord songs, and his nasally vocals don't have much range, he's never too high or too low, neither too flowery nor technically ornate. Could Petty's success lie in his simplicity? Never one to show off, his meek demeanor and straightforward approach have made him an Everyman whose broad message is so perfectly plain that listeners can find a piece of themselves in it.

The thousands who descended upon White River Amphitheatre Sunday night certainly found something. Most of the diverse crowd stood through the entire show singing so loud to the defiant "I Won't Back Down" that Petty admitted it almost knocked him down. "Free Fallin' " was no quieter as it seemed everyone must have known a girl who loves her momma, "loves Jesus and America, too." And again during "You Don't Know How It Feels," the audience pined along with Petty because who hasn't felt alienated and trapped "too alone to be proud"? Yeah, you don't know how it feels to be me, do you?

In addition to his innate ability to reduce the trials and tribulations of everyday life into something simply poetic, Petty has pretty cool friends, too, like honorary Heartbreaker Stevie Nicks, who made a surprise appearance to sing "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around" and then stuck around to duet with Petty on "I Need To Know" and "Insider."

Pretty cool, right? Well, it gets better because who recently toured with Petty? Pearl Jam. So who else made a surprise appearance to sing "The Waiting"? You guessed it: Eddie Vedder.

Now, let's ponder this: The dead-sexy Stevie Nicks playing tambourine in your band is pretty cool, but Stevie and Eddie both on tambourine and backing vocals is unbelievable. Even Vedder found the experience overwhelming when, during the "American Girl" encore, he messed up the lyrics and turned mischievously to Petty, who quickly stepped in to show the younger rock star how it's done. It gave Vedder time to remember the words so that verse two went perfectly. The real crowning moment was Vedder, Nicks and Petty singing, "Oh yeah, all right/ Take it easy, baby/ Make it last all night/ She was an American girl!"

So, in conclusion, if anyone were ever to ask if Tom Petty really matters, the right answer would be, "Are you kidding?"

Another Portland review:

Review: Amphitheater fans cheer Petty, band

Tuesday, August 1, 2006
By Christopher Luna For The Columbian Advertisement

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers celebrated 30 years as one of America's most reliably entertaining rock bands with an enthusiastic crowd at The Amphitheater at Clark County on Saturday evening.

Fans sang along to nearly every song during a two-hour concert that included such favorites as "Free Fallin," "You Don't Know How It Feels," "Refugee," and "Runnin' Down a Dream." Clearly pleased with how loudly the audience was singing, Petty encouraged the crowd to make the "loudest noise ever" heard in history of the outdoor venue.

Dressed in a black velvet jacket with sequins, Petty danced, raised his arms triumphantly, and conducted the band throughout the show. Impressed with the crowd's energy, he thanked the audience after nearly ever song. The audience also gave a warm reception to new songs such as the lovely ballad "Square One," which appears on "Highway Companion," the Heartbreakers' first recording in four years, released July 25. One woman even briefly removed her top for the band during their sultry take on the old blues tune, "I'm a Man" (also known as "Mannish Boy").

Bandleader Petty was supported by Mike Campbell on lead guitar, Steve Ferrone on drums, Ron Blair on bass, and Ben Tench on piano. But it was Scott Thurston, born in Medford, Ore., whose solid harmonica, rhythm guitar, and backing vocals made each song come alive. Thurston's imitation of Roy Orbison's falsetto vocal from the Traveling Wilburys' "Handle Me With Care" was one of the highlights of the evening.

Tom Petty introduced special guest Stevie Nicks as someone who has been an "honorary member" of the band since 1978. Nicks was visibly moved by the audience's affectionate reaction to her entrance. She lived up to the reception, especially on her hit duet with Petty, "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around." Unfortunately, after a few songs, it became hard to hear her vocals, even after a second microphone was provided. Nicks also joined the band during the final song of its encore, "American Girl," playing tambourine and wearing a top hat similar to the one Petty used to sport in the 1980s.

Former Phish frontman Trey Anastasio warmed up the crowd with a tight band well-suited to his anthemic jams. Anastasio is known as much for his personal connection with his fans as for his virtuosic guitar playing.

That connection didn't translate in the performance at the amphitheater, but Anastasio forged ahead, making eye contact with the scattered pockets of fans who danced to his music. One dancer proudly displayed that he had shaved Anastasio's first name into his mullet haircut.

I don't care that much about Eddie Vedder either, but I ws intrigued by the review that described their 3 voices together. We're all hoping. He hasn't given us a def. answer yet, so there's still hope.

She is just coming to LA, but she has witnessed me and a group get a round of applause for LEAVING a restaurant. Granted, there were ten of us, and Clayre and I were leading a conversation about oral sex, but still.

Well, that's the thing - I'd been indecisive about it all week - "Will Stevie come to Austin? I already went to St. Louis, I should just be happy with that, and hope and pray she comes to Austin for ACL, and spend my $$ on a facial instead."

Where were you at, AliP? I was so close to sending you a PM before the show, but I thought maybe you wouldn't be there since Stevie wasn't guaranteed and you are "out of the loop".

Oh, and I love how they confirmed Portland and Seattle after the fact.

Tell me about it!!! (Note my location.) I was originally upset that no confirmation was made because I would have gone to the Portland show too....but it sounds like the Seattle show was FATHOMS better (as is the venue), so I can't feel too bad.

Once gldstwmn noted that she was at the Portland show, I knew I was safe for Seattle, but there's still always that slight bit of doubt (especially since it's been my #1 rock 'n' roll dream to see SN & TP together). My fears were eased, however, as I sat waiting for the show to start and I could see Stevie's unmistakable decked out microphone waiting in the wings!

That mikemono guy has been very vocal about it...but I can understand - I mean, they DID get some rarities in the set list in lieu of SDMAH, INTK and Insider. So for the people who go to multiple shows - I totally get why perhaps seeing Stevie once for them is enough.

I was hoping for Gloria instead of Mystic Eyes for an encore in Houston, but he's done Mystic Eyes at every show on this leg.

Dammit!

On the Ticketmaster page for the Darien Lake show it still says, "Stevie Nicks will join Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers during their set for a handful of songs, including the Petty/Nicks Number One hit, Stop Draggin' My Heart Around".

I wonder if I could get a refund?
[EDIT] I in fact did get a refund of the face value, just not the service charge. It was surprisingly easy (Not that I don't like Tom and everything but I'm seeing him in Toronto next month anyway.)

no kidding. i emailed john to ask him about it - "no official information" on it yet. if i held my breath waiting for the "official" word from the nicksfix, i'd be dead long before the september 8th show. this place is faaaaar more reliable for info.

Has there ever been an instance of his reporting information to a single questioner before he posted it on the site? Isn't his reply to individuals always "no official information yet"? Doesn't it stand to reason that if he had any information--or was willing to spill it--it would be posted on his site, thus obviating all individual e-mail requests for that information?

you know, that would indeed be logical. but i don't assume any logic on his part. and no, it would not surprise me at all if he knew stuff like whether stevie would be in toronto and decide not to post it right away. maybe he'd wait til he knew about 3 or 4 dates before he'd post it. who knows? but as i said, i wouldn't assume anything. and what did i have to lose by emailing him and at least letting him know that we are out here and we'd appreciate his trying to get that information for us?

Stevie with Tom Petty
Stevie has joined Tom Petty as a special guest on some of his shows on the Highway Companion tour. If you catch a show with Stevie, you will hear her sing a small selections of songs with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, including duets with Tom. Stevie joined the tour for the first eight shows starting June 9th and then also joined again from July 29th through August 9th. Stevie is expected to join the tour for more shows, but she won't be at every show, so check here or at tompetty.com for dates as they are confirmed.

Good one! I'll be the girl in front with tears streaming down my face frantically screaming "Stevie, OMG I love you!!!" like the girls used to do for Jim...

You know as we are making these suggestions to Stevie (because you know she is reading this and taking everything we are saying into consideration) I'm actually imagining her voice and what it would sound like if she were singing each of these songs. Try it, pretty cool. Now, try the breakdown of Stairway to Heaven:
"And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our souls
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show"

And she totally busts out a la possessed Rhiannon :blob2: Maybe she'll even take the mic off the stand!

I'm sure he is, but I can't spend that kind of money (and justify it ;)) if my girl ain't gonna be there. Besides, I don't have anyone that will go with me. Stevie concerts I'll go alone but not for anyone else's.

You should hear something from Nicksfix on Saturday.

Can you buy tickets retroactively?

 I don't know, 4th row in the first section is coming up. It's showing though general admission is about 1000 seats and then section 200, row four. I don't know if that would be a good seat or not?

$81 CDN for the good seats and $27 for lawn. I would only do lawn if it were just for Tom and if I was with someone but I would never do lawn if Stevie was going to be there.

It looks pretty good to me. Hopefully they will confirm Stevie's appearance soon. I think the article was vague about whether or not she is doing the entire 3rd leg.

Stevie Nicks is expected to join Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers on stage Oct. 21 in Indian Wells, but promoters still won't say who their Highway Companions will be when the tour comes runnin' down Highway 111 to the Tennis Garden.

It won't be the Dandy Warhols, who were just announced for a new date Oct. 27 in Berkeley.

But an AEG Live spokeswoman said Warhol fans won't be disappointed.

Possible candidates include Beck, who was just added as an opener for Petty on Sept. 27 at Coors Amphitheatre in San Diego, and Frank Black of the Pixies, who opened for Petty's first two Berkeley concerts.

Beck is a favorite at the Coachella Music and Arts Festival, promoted by AEG Live subsidiary Goldenvoice.

The Pixies solidified their comeback at Coachella with an electrifying set.

Other opening acts on the Heartbreakers' 30th anniversary tour have included the Strokes, the Allman Brothers and Pearl Jam, who performed Goldenvoice's first concert at the Empire Polo Club in 1993.

Pearl Jam will be on a break in October between tours of Europe and Australia.

A Stevie Nicks Web site says the former Fleetwood Mac star will sing several songs with Petty on 12 dates of his Highway Companion Tour, including Indian Wells.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Sept. 15 through Ticketmaster and at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden box office.

imagine that. :(

I emailed JK about the Berkeley shows and he said that he has no information at this time, but as soon as it's passed on to him, he'll post. it makes no sense. I don't understand why they wouldn't want (or maybe just don't make the effort) the fans to know prior to the event. it's not like it's a "surprise" anymore.

Assuming this info is true, what would the 12 be?

Chicago-Indian Wells? That's 12 consecutive dates. I don't see her doing anything after 10/21, since she'll probably be in NYC rehearsing for Hulaween.

and i'm sure teresa and i aren't the only ones who didn't buy tickets for the toronto show tonight because we just didn't know for sure and didn't want to take the financial chance (for me it was also that i would have needed to get the night off work). if i had known for sure stevie was going to be there, i would have bought. but... i guess i'll just have to wait and see now if i missed her. :(

So far, the following upcoming Tom Petty shows are scheduled to include Stevie as a guest singer:

2006-09-22 Atlanta, GA
2006-09-26 Los Angeles, CA
2006-09-27 San Diego, CA

You know, I wouldn't take that Indian Wells article too seriously. It just says Stevie Nicks is "expected" to be there. I think the writer just got on the web and read all the articles about how Stevie is doing the 3rd leg with Petty and made an assumption. And the "12 shows" thing is probably yet another rumor on a fan website.

It is very unfortunate that we can't just get some confirmed dates in a timely manner (like we did with the first leg). Stevie's management should know that her fans are really into this and willing to fly to other cities if they know she will be there.

Stevie Nicks with Tom Petty is a dream come true for many of us. I feel very lucky that it worked out for me to see this in NY, but I would be pissed off if I learned this once in a lifetime event had happened in my hometown without even a heads up from the official website (like happened in Seattle or Portland).

I'm trying hard not to be negative on this board these days, but stuff like this really gets to me. Is she or is she not in Toronto tonight. If not, why not post on Nickfix saying the shows she won't be playing so that people can move on.

EDIT: P.S. Where the hell is Indian Wells????

Just got home from the Petty show.

Alas, no, Miss Nicks was nowhere to be seen. Tom and the boys were amazing though, I would have totally forgotten that Stevie was the main reason I bought pit tickets, that is, if there wasn't a Stevie look-alike right in front of me. A little distracting, good though.

I feel sorry for the lawn folks -- it poured for the last part of the show. I'm totally beat now, right before the Tom Petty show I saw The Weakerthans and Metric perform at U of T, went straight to the amphitheatre after that, got there just in time. Now I'm off to bed!

Now that we have some confirmed future dates, has anyone had any luck pulling up any great seats? I've been trying ticketmaster off and on for the past month or so, and never got anything in the orchestra for my show (Chula Vista, 9-27). I plan to keep trying more often now and if I can't get anything good to come up on TM I guess I'll have to go to a $%&*#@* broker.

Yeah the show was awesome... It was part of U of T's orientation program, so the show wasn't promoted at all, just meant to be for their students. I actually go to York -- close enough I think ;)--- I managed to blend it the crowd on the back lawn.. hehe...

The Weakerthans opened with Benediction, but they had some guy -- I'm guessing from one of the earlier bands --- sing Harmer's part. I hadn't even though about Emily doing it -- that would have been great!
