This IS a bitchy thread. And all in all - I think that as long as a person is comfortable, feels good and feels as though they look good then they should wear what they want.
I have capris that are cute as hell on me! I LOVE flip flops and wear them often - it IS ok - they are no longer just a "beach sandal" and gaucho pants are way cute.
Guys in capris? Why not? If they look good then go for it!
But the line does have to be drawn somewhere - you are right in the fact that panty hose (esp. w/ the reinforced toe) should never, under any circumstances, be worn with open toed or heeled shoes. Never.

Honey, you know I love you and it's really a shame we don't talk more often. I totally forgot the Absolute Nazzzztyness that is the Abomination that is mother****ing piece-of-****-****ing Ugg Boots. The absolute ZENITH of tacky, disgusting, bad-taste, idiotic, piece-of-****-stupidity I have ever seen in my entire life.
I swear to gawd, I want to kill every stoopid, vapid bitch that wears these pieces of ****.
---End Rant----
Aww. I feel the love <3
****ing word, though. What pisses me off the most is when people wear gauchos with Uggs, and especially, with knee boots. It looks seriously retarded. And if they're not the right size, gauchos really widen from the hip down.
I also hate capris. Maybe it's just me, but they're not very flattering. I don't mind flip flops, but I only wear them to school and like, grocery shopping or something. I'd never wear them anywhere else, though. I much prefer stilletoes, combat/knee boots, or Converses.
I don't get these either. Gaudy as all get out. Tack, tack, tack. :distress:
They're so status-y and old ladyish. I can't stand the things. I heard some girl crying about how she doesn't own a ****ing Vera Bradley bag. I wanted to hit her upside the head with my silkscreened Iggy Pop bag.

The latest fashion fad of cuffing jeans to capri length. That. Is. The. Worst.
This is the latest fad? News to me. I haven't seen throngs of people doing this yet .
More Tacky Things:
trucker hats
greasy, unwashed, unkempt hair
wearing pajamas (bottoms, tops, house shoes, whatever) out in public
wearing a bathing suit that is ill-fitting or too small
tanning bed tans
bleached, white-blonde hair (and especially with tanning bed tan)

I think we're getting away from what's exactly "tacky"
I wear flip flops, Uggs and capris - not all the time, but I do wear them. I usually wear my Uggs just around the house and outside, especially in the winter, but I wear flip flops a lot...not $2 flip flops...$40 flip flops. I don't care what anyone says, they are cute...especially with my capris. so there.

I agree, and so can capris!
Flip-flops can be cute too if worn in the right context. And also, look, if you live in a climate (like I do) that is 100 degrees with 80% humidity from about June-October you'll be wearing yourself some flip-flops once in a while. It's HOT out there people, I refuse to wear socks!
I really wear leather sandals more than anything in the summer, but I'm not opposed to flip-flops if they're cute and resemble real shoes more than shower shoes. And that's the thing, it's all about degrees of flip-flopness, some are really cheap and fugly whereas others can be really cute and stylish .

Here's tacky - or just plain gross:
I was in line at an ice cream place - there was a family in front of us - the kid (maybe 7 or 8) stuck his tongue on the glass ice cream window thing - and walked the length of it WITH HIS TONGUE ON IT!!!!! His parents said nothing - I left. SO gross.

I also don't get why overweight people can't go swimming/wear swimsuits. What are they supposed to wear, jeans? Also, shouldn't we be happy they are exercising? *saying "they" as if I don't have 15 extra lbs on my own swimsuit wearing fat ass* Also, does someone else's fat in any way reflect on you? I would think not.
Deanna, you can hang out with me. Unless you have one of those flowery bag things. I've never seen one before, but they sure are ugly, I wouldn't be able to look at one all afternoon. Otherwise, I'm going to put on my cute gauchos, my swimsuit top - hold on, I need to pull my underwear out of my ass - my thongs, you'll don your lovely Tevas, and we're going to hit the stores!!!! To tell the truth the shoe thing was fairly harmless, but I personally enjoy that people have different senses of style. Block heels, high heels, flats, wedges - it's all good!
I didn't get why overweight people wearing bathing suits to swim is tacky either. If they are on the beach or at the pool I'd say it's appropiate wear.

Yeah, it's moral superiority that makes me think it's tacky to take a thread complaining about people wearing anklets over pantyhose and turn it into talking about the best kinds of lesbian porn, making fun of fat people, and making people feel bad because they enjoy wearing or doing something that you personally don't like. All of the criticism is depressing, and don't flip me **** just because I'm calling it.

One night, late, the T.V. was on. I think I had had a few cocktails. Anyway, I hear this deoderant commercial in the background, and it says "something something ADVANCED ODOR BLOCKING TECHNOLOGY".
And I'm like "What the exact hell is odor blocking technology? Does the deoderant have tiny computer chips in it? Can we use this technology for stem cell research as well?" etc. - Making up funny **** in my head.
So, the ledge was on in my house as well, and I remembered my sig pic had Stevie raising her arm, so I thought I would put it there, and it would be funny (to me, at least).
I actually wanted to start a thread about it, and laugh, but then I thought that was hella stupid - which is fine with me, but other more uptight and less silly souls don't always appreciate that sort of pointless, non musical goofery.
I've noticed when I have cocktails it's best to think and rethink something I want to post. If you know what I mean.

Is anyone here saying overweight people are terrible human beings who suck? No. Are people saying that short people are inferior to tall people? No. Are people saying that if you don't wear a certain label, or brand of clothing, or type of shoe, that you aren't a decent person and you should kill yourself? No.
It's just a silly thread, full of members' opinions on what is tacky, tasteless, unclassy (is that a word?) I don't believe any rules were broken (I'll go check though, wouldn't want anyone to think this thread was being treated differently than any others here...) and it's not meant to be taken so seriously.

I also love those men's razor commercials that show you the 3-D image of a guy's face being shaved and how the blade goes under the skin to shave one's face as closely as is humanly (or divinely) possible. I don't really criticize fashion or stuff like that (yet?).
There is one occasion I can think of which merited the term "tacky." My mom and I were in line at Jeffrey's Hamburger Court and a young couple (a man and a woman) were in front of us. The man leaned over and asked, "what underwear are you wearing?" Then he pulled the back of her pants out and down, pulled her underwear up and looked at it. Perhaps that was just disrespectful. My mom and I were incredulous that public underwear and pants handling took place.
You're so bad.
BTW - your gross underwear story reminded me of something. I was in line for the bumper cars at Darien Lake a few years ago & saw a guy grab his girl's titty. For no apparent reason - they were just standing there, he grabbed & squeezed it, then let go. Her expression didn't even change, it was like nothing had happened.
PDA's are all a bit tacky IMO, but this was ridiculous. There were kids in that line! And apparently, since I remember most of the details, I was scarred for life.

First of all, I'm sorry if I offended anyone. I said OBESE, not chubby. I mean 150 lbs over weight, not 15. I just don't understand where people get the balls to wear bathing suits in public when they are morbidly obese. They know everyone is looking at them and they know what everyone are thinking (and don't pretend that you don't). I'm about 10 lbs over weight and I wouldn't be caught dead in a bathing suit in public, but that's just me (and I probably need to get over that, I know). Well, it isn't really about that kind of thing. I having nothing against slobby/comfy stuff where it's appropriate. The concept that flip-flops have moved into the realm of acceptable footwear in restaurants or acceptable as an accompaniment to any kind of "going out" outfits and/or more formal dress is ludicrous.

Good God! How do you guys make any money!?! I am a constant over-tipper just because so many of my friends have been waitresses/waiters. BUT I will not leave a good tip if the person is rude - I draw the line there.
I was a restaurant recently and I'd been there once before and had gotten bread before the meal (I and the person I was with ordered the EXACT same thing as the time before) but this time, no bread. So I ask about the bread and receive a very curt, "we don't just GIVE free bread away..." she walks away, it all went downhill from there - she got a measly tip from me...I'm no ballsy enough to not tip at all :o

Of course there are those restaurants where people pay (or they used to) for waiters with attitude. When I worked at the SF Hamburger Mary's, we were sort of a show for the patrons, and we pushed them around quite a bit. The decor of Mary's, cluttered kitsch, now that was gloriously, unapologetically tacky!

That's become really popular out here. People bring their dogs to class, to stores, to restaurants (that's the worst, I think), basically anywhere and everywhere they go. I get that little dogs are convenient to carry and it's fun to take your pet with you places, but I hate when people dress them up in stupid little hats and shoes (I can deal with a shirt or something but come on) or stick them in their purses all day. They're animals, not fashion accesories.
I don't get all the flip-flop hate :p. Man, you guys are tough. I think they look silly with formal clothes, or to worn to work, but I wear them with jeans almost every day. They're simple and comfortable, it's the hippie in me, etc. However I do agree it's tacky if 1) the platform is like 5 inches high and they have playboy bunny decals anywhere on them 2) you drag your feet or make that annoying slapping sound with them or 3) they're white, unless you only plan on wearing them once. Because I don't care how careful you try to be, or how clean you think your feet are, they will get all dirty and marked up and have those yucky black foot stains.

All you fashion snobs would have a fit if you knew what I wore today at work, and then what I wore this evening when we went out to a casual dinner! I'm short. Like 5' 3", and I wore black capris with a white v neck t-shirt, with a pair of black leather sandles. When I came home, I changed the capris to a pair of blue jean shorts, and work my pink breast cancer flip flops. THEN I went out to eat! I don't dress to the hilt, ever, and I don't really care! I don't look like a slob, and I dress as I'm comfortable. I don't run around with dirty clothes, or feet, and as long as I'm clean, I don't clash, and eveything fits, I don't care! All you gay boys would die if you lived in Indiana. OMG. I hate the flip flops. Hate them. Especially when worn by a lazy walker who does the "drag and slap" walk. I have a certain friend who is literally the Imelda Marcos of flip flops, and it's okay when she wears them. I think she has thrown own away more flip flops than I will have pairs of shoes in my lifetime.

That was really rude what they said to your mom, and this thread is great.
I'll add one that isn't nearly as important as yours, but amusing or frightening none the less.
Say you go visit your favorite professor, you're talking, you're telling him about a current issue you are having wherein a member of your family wants you to stop acting like a slut, and it's very troubling and heartfelt or whatever. Then the professor says "Close the door, please" and proceeds to tell you how hot you are, and ask if you would have a threesome with him and his (much younger) wife. Now imagine his daughter is only four years younger than you.
No, it didn't happen to me. I spent the same day (today) collating a project at work. In other words, I spent the day walking around a table, picking up papers in order. That's not tacky, I'm just pissed that my day was like that, while someone else was being told they were hot and being invited to threesomes, tacky though it may be. Like, I was already thinking "is this really my life?!?!?" while endlessly collating, then I got to hear that little story. Now I've pretty much convinced myself that my real life is existing in some other dimension, waiting for me to timespace on over. Not only that, but I went to work early to do this, getting only four hours of sleep. Oh, and I'm supposed to do it again tomorrow.
I'm just puspy cause I haven't been asked to a good threesome in months. I never go, but it's nice to be asked.
I think I'd rather be a hunter/gatherer, I really do. It seems so much more fun and worthwhile. I think I'll go hunt and gather my toothbrush, then hunt and gather some candy, then gather the book I hunted and skinned and smoked yesterday. My teepee should be warmed up by now, I can see a good billow coming out the smokehole. hehehehe, "smokehole". I better clean up the bones from the corndogs I hunted last night from my animalhide side table first.
