This was David's idea & there's already one of these in the Stevie Forum, but I wanted to start one here too. It doesn't have to be Mac related, it could be a question about anything. I don't think people want to get too personal ("where exactly do you live, what's your phone number") due to possible internet kooks, but you can always choose not to answer. Also, please keep questions like "how long is your penis?" or "wanna make out?" confined to PMs. Strand.

You can just answer, but it would be cool if you could ask another Ledgie another question to keep the thread going.

Chili: I think you've mentioned that you've attended all Mac tours. Do you know how many shows total? Do you remember the cities/venues/dates or anything like that?

Amber: How far do you think you walk in a week? You walk & bike most places, I'm just curious if you have any idea about distances? You are the long distance winner, IMO.

Seeker: Working in Vegas, have you met a lot of famous people? Were they nice, or jerky?

Chili: I think you've mentioned that you've attended all Mac tours. Do you know how many shows total? Do you remember the cities/venues/dates or anything like that?

Not "all" tours...but every tour since 1974.
52 shows in all..that's ONLY Fleetwood Mac as a whole. All shows were in Southern California.
Venues I've seen them:
Long Beach Center Theatre
Long Beach Arena
Santa Monica Civic Auditorium
Anaheim Stadium
Loyola Marymount University Gymnasium
GW Forum (MOST shows were here)
Universal Amphitheatre
San Diego Sports Arena
Arrowhead Pond
Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre
University Of California, Santa Barbara football field (the "Rosebud" show)

Solo shows:

Lindsey Buckingham: 1 (Wiltern Theatre)
Stevie Nicks: 4 (2 on the RAL tour, 1 Street Angel, 1 Enchanted)
Peter Green: 3 (with the PGSG, 1998 at the Long Beach Blues Festival, 1999 at the Ventura Theatre, 2001 at the Disneyland House Of Blues)
Rick Vito: 5 (plus once when he was with Jackson Browne's band)
Bob Welch: 10 (includes 2 with Paris, 1 with Avenue M)

Plus:

Walter Egan: 4 (only ONE of the four shows did NOT have Stevie Nicks and/or Lindsey Buckingham show up on stage with him, one show at the Roxy also had Mick & John in the audience)

John Stewart: 1 (during his Bombs Away Dream Babies tour...he played a Turner Model 1 throughout the show).

And, of course, the infamous 1976 Eric Clapton show where I sat in close proximity to 4 of the 5 then current FMac members.

EDIT: And, well, gee...thanks for asking.

Seeker: Working in Vegas, have you met a lot of famous people? Were they nice, or jerky?

A question for lil'ol' me?

well.....

I have met a number of famous folks through the years. Most are very nice, but some are very "JERKY".

Jerky List:

1. Barbara Streisand - saw from afar. She is number one Jerk, as she doesn't want "those" people to look at her. She made the "help" walk back wards so they wouldn't make eye contact.

2. Sting. - Gods gift to himself. Total Twit

3. Lionel Ritchie - Band was nice, he was very "sting-like". (Stuck up git)

4. Some rap idiot. - Not into rap music, but patrons were astonished when I didn't care who he was and threw him out for inappropriate behavior. "Don't you know who that was?" and I said "someone who thinks fame and money buys respect and manners. I wouldn't let you do that crap, so I am not letting him either. " (Dennis Rondman was thrown out of the Bellagio recently for acting like a fool. So, there is a limit).

Most of the famous folks appreciate being treated like a normal person and are low key. Only a few need the attention all the time or think they are above everyone else. If they do something stupid the entire strip knows within minutes (Very tight, small community - casino workers).

Barbara...not surprised in the least. "Those" people? Like, who...the "little people"? LOL Nah, those people don't buy your albums or see your movies. Pfftt.

Was the rap idiot...Kanye West or someone less well known?

You know, I have no idea. I don't listen to rap. Must have been "somebody" the way folks were acting. I didn't care, there are certain levels of public manners and he didn't have any, thought normal rules didn't apply to him. So..."CYA"

 Stevie's been wearing corsets forever as you know and the girls get captured on film quite nicely at times. Especially during the Edge walk. Somehow that morphed into "Sisters of the Boob".

Amber: How far do you think you walk in a week? You walk & bike most places, I'm just curious if you have any idea about distances? You are the long distance winner, IMO.

Without extra excercising, I bike about 400 blocks a week. That is if I go to Earthjustice 3 days that week. (sometimes I go more, sometimes less). That also includes my regular errands like trips to the store for groceries.

I don't walk much anymore unless I am excercising, as it can hurt my knee. But before I got the bike I would walk to work and back most days (or rollerblade) and same thing to do my errands, so I probably did about 275 blocks a week with that. Over 300 with sundries.
Now I mainly walk to BART & back, and school, which is about 50 blocks a week.
When I do that bike up the hill then hike up the steep hill excercise thing...I do it for usually between an hour and two hours each time, the hike part is between 45 min and 1 1/2 hours. I didn't do it for the past 8 weeks or however long it was raining constantly, but typically I did and will do that between 2-4 times a week. It's pretty hard, you've seen the hill. It's actually why my legs are so very pained right now, but hopefully I can resolve that soon - I'll probably only do once or twice a week for the next couple weeks, especially since I'll have the extra Earthjustice biking and also finals...
Oh, and I do weights, too - arms and calves and sit ups and bun-ups - but only about 4 times a week, I could do a lot more. Sometimes I only do one set. But my body is just killing me right now in the thigh and hip area, it's sapping my strength.

What I need to do is more yoga, I usually only get about 2 hours a week in...:( It hurts to do it more now cause of my legs, and also it is more difficult for me to do quiet, slow exercises - I can't calm down and it's too dull, I like me the fast, hard movement. I make myself, though. :woohoo:

Thanks for asking, you know how I do love to go on and on about this boring crap! :xoxo:
And if anyone is wondering why I'm not thinner, go f**k yourselves!!! (I just lost 2 more pounds, though. It must have been the beer ;) ).

:wavey:

My question is for...Paula -
are you really happily married? Why don't you guys get bored? How have you stayed together for so long? Do you laugh a lot together? Do you give each other lots of space? What's the deal?

Oh, apparently 12 blocks equals a mile, just found that out. So, that's only about 30 miles/week...

gldstwmn...is GDW your favorite?
and if so, why? (i know, why not!)

I came up with the idea to put "gldstwmn" on my license plate. I relate to the song in a lot of ways but after a while I decided that wasn't something I really wanted to hold on to so... I bought a new car and decided I wasn't that in love with vanity plates. Lo and behold, one day I'm over on the Nicks Fix and someone has "gldstwmn" on a license plate. So maybe I inspired them to put it on a license plate, who knows?
As for my favorite performances of the song, I like the alternate version that is on 25 Years The Chain box set. For live performances, I prefer the era where she yells "Pick it up!" If I remember correctly it would be Street Angel era. I also love when she ad libs "You don't want to see it." I specifically remember her doing this at the AHI benefit in 2000. I also find myself saying "Pick up the pieces and move on" when things don't go the way I or others expect them to in life. So thank you Stevie for that little bit of wisdom.
Now I have a question for you. You are so good with graphics, is that what you do for a living? If not, then you should. Cha ching!

Congrats on the 2 lbs! You know, we tend to minimize "small" losses like that but it really isn't small. You had to burn 7,000 calories to lose that. Thing about a 2 lb hunk of meat, it's not that small! ;) Good for you.

I also recently lost 2 lbs. So I'm down 4 since beginning my dedicated gym routine at the end of Jan. That's just over a pound a month. But I've kicked it up this month and am going about 2x as often and am much stronger and have much higher endurance. So I'm burning more calories each time I go. Plus it is making me feel really good so I'm becoming addicted. I can't wait to go today. Isn't that weird? ;)

Amber, don't be afraid to take some ibuprofen or something for your legs. Sometimes we forget that we can do that. Stretch more often if you can too. I know what you mean about it being boring. I have to force myself sometimes too. But it feels so good when you're done!

Good job, Suze! I'm not afraid, I take it all the time, that's what I'm afraid of - and have been for months now. I've also had a vicoden prescrip for the past couple months.
Do I really strike you as the kind of person who would take pain rather than take medicine???

Besides numerous other benefits (antimicrobial, antiviral, antiaging, anticancer, anti heart disease), it helps you lose weight. If you type Coconut Oil into Google, many articles come up, you could peruse those as well. It is very interesting indeed. And especially how other food oil companies ran smear campaigns against coconut oil - which is very clearly the most beneficial oil you can use for cooking/baking/eating/skin.
Here is one.

I just know sometimes people just think its for headaches and don't take it for muscle or other kinds of aches. I should've known that wasn't the case with you. It really sucks you're having that kind of pain!

I don't do more than 2 hours of stretching a week, no. But I stretch after I workout. My current gym does not offer yoga right now but I hope they add it.

Wow, that is odd. I've never heard of a gym without yoga.
But I just do tapes at home, myself. You know, when I do them? I went to classes first, though, it is kind of important to have someone teach you the proper way to hold poses and breathe - it is easy to do poses improperly, and it cuts many of the benefits when you do.
For instance, one hard thing in yoga is to think of the pose not as a goal, but a journey. The important thing is to breathe into your body, not strain your body to reach an end result that you think the pose should be. Keep aligned and breathe.
That's kind of a hard lesson, for me and others - because of course it's just nature to want to "get the pose right". But really you have to "keep your body breathing and balanced".
oops, guess I went on and on again. I should do some yoga right now, especially as I'm listening to the Tango record, and You and I Part Barf just came on.
Blergh. C'mon, Lindsey!

No, that's great. I don't eat nearly that much. I finished a coconut a few days ago, and want to get another today. I used a little oil to cook some chicken.
It's fine.
Great, now I'll totally remember that, because I like stupid trivia, too! *shakes fist*.

I just want to take this opportunity to say that Nightbird on vinyl almost creeps me out. Or...something...not really scary creepy, but I guess it's just darker tinged. The dichotomy between the vocal, which sounds more major to me, and the music that sounds a bit more minor - and the swirling, dipping harmonies - I almost felt like it would be played in some movie when the girl is really happy but is just stepping into the forest of sadness, and is becoming aware of the change in the tone of her surroundings...like she went down the wrong trail...there is also something a little overwhelming about it. It's sooo lush.
But that same quality in the vinyl makes Stand Back spectacular. Stand Back is more consistent within itself, it's all dark tinged. But in a more mechanical way.

I guess you can't. I looked online to see what the meat should look/smell like when you open it up. Also, I pour all the liquid in the coconut down the drain.
Maybe check online again, there might be something. I've eaten about 4, and so far so good.

Paula, what the hell is Sister of the Boob? Did that have to do with someone pinching Stevie's boob in a poster???

I can't remember exactly how it started, but during the SYW tour, there were so many people posting pics they had taken & Stevie's ta-ta's were very visible in most of them. :p It was brought up in a thread (by me? Suze? Amber? not sure) and as soon as one person mentioned it, everyone started replying that they noticed her boobs too.

Yes, we were/are aware that she had put on a few pounds, and yes we were/are aware that the girls are squashed up with much help from bras & corset & such. BUT - they looked great! I wasn't sure why I was so enthralled with her chest, but I was & so were other straight gals here. So, I wrote a parody to Sister of the Moon & made up a club for us gals. Then, of course some of the gays wanted in  (the gays love me, you know), so I made them brothers of the boob. It's not really a club, there's no special jacket or anything (although, that would be way cool...) but it kind of stuck & here we are.

I just looked for my song, but I think it's gone, swept away when they cleaned out The Ledge of old posts.

My question is for...Paula -

1 - No, not really

3 - No clue
4 - Yes, but we're laughing at eachother, not with
5 - I like space, planets are cool.

OK, OK. Yes! I am truly very happily married. When we got together, we weren't expecting it - neither of us was looking for a long term relationship, since I had just ditched my boyfriend of 3 years & Mark had just gotten out of the Navy (both things happened a few months before we got together.) We had actually met a few years earlier, my ex & he had mutual friends, so it wasn't like he picked me up in a bar or anything - I've known him since I was 16.

I actually planned on hooking him up with my friend & she didn't show :p . We started hanging out more & more & it just happened. Been together almost 12 years now. And of course you get bored sometimes, but in general we have really similar interests so we have a great time. But we do have enough differences that we can do our own thing too & not be smothered. Damned if he wants to watch old Mac videos with me, and damned if I want to watch him play a video game, so that works out pretty well. We laugh a lot (with AND at eachother) and I feel really lucky to be so happy with my life.

I hope that covered it. I know you probably still don't get it, but I tried.

Yeah, I remember the back story from Vegas. That was pretty interesting. I guess you answered it - it doesn't sound as complex for you guys as I thought it might be. I guess if you laugh a lot, that goes a long way, because then you aren't bored. Also, you're easy to get along with - husband probably is, too. Oh, I forgot to ask - what sign is your husband?

Start sleeping and popping vitamin C like there is no tomorrow. Don't eat sugar, it suppresses the immune system (roughly the amount in a can of soda suppresses it for about 5 hours). Do not get stressed out. Practice yoga, it has amazing healing properties. Eat some walnuts, and some broccoli. Whispering is worse for your voice than talking softly.

I've attended "Concerts In The Park" by local bands here in my town, and last year I attended a small performance by the Pittsburgh Symphony at a church also here in my town (it was a performance to announce the PSO's involvement with the Performing Arts Center being built here), but the Mac show was the biggest concert I've ever attended.

I've had anxiety problems since I was around 12 or 13, and really didn't like to go many places, but it didn't become extremely serious until I was around 18, when the agoraphobic tendencies really kicked in. I've had ups and downs since then.

Joshua's very understanding about it, and of course I'm hoping that, in time and with his support, it will be a thing of the past. At least to any major degree.

Yes, I have changed my name to Paula-the-nurse.

At this point, in the band I'm in...none. :o (except on those rare occasions when we play Bad Company's "Can't Get Enough"...I manage to squeeze in a verse and couple choruses of "Don't Stop" toward the end, since the chord changes are almost identical) Although, while setting up & tuning up, I'll rip into "Oh Well" to test my distortion & volume levels...then following that, I set my effects levels by playing "Albatross".

But, with my recently disbanded blues band, we did "Stop Messin' Round" & "I Loved Another Woman" (both of which I play when I get on stage at blues jams)

In an acoustic situation I'm working on, we're doing a couple of Danny Kirwan tunes..."Station Man" & "Without You".

When I'm by myself, I've come up with a solo acoustic version of "World Turning" which segues into one of my own tunes called "Curry & Tandoori".

http://www.ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=19902&highlight=boob

Here it is! I guess it was just last year, not during the SYW Tour. ooops. Time flies when you're thinking of boobs...

Intense, cleavage
La Nicks walks in the room
Her black dress, shows off
A set of heaving boobs

Oh, sure lots of women
Have bigger tits than she
But the breasts that she is showing off
Are more pleasing to me

Heavy, black fabric
It must be hard to breathe
They are lifted up high by her corset
You can't help...but SSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

And so my eyes follow
As they often do
I simply can't stop staring
Oh my, what a view

And the fanclub
They love her
And they love her boobs
She asked me, be my sister
Sister...of the BBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBBBBB!

So we make our choices
When there is no choice
We stare at La Nick's ta-tas
While we listen to her voice

And the people gather around her
They want to see them too
They say can I be your sister...
Brother....
Sister....
Brother.....of the BBBBBBBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBBBBBB!

And you say whoa babay! Whoa babay! di%$#@^))*(**&@@!+"?}[;].-';
Perform panty-revealing spin now, if you'd like.

Not really, just a tiny bit. I can count from 1-10, I can say good morning, good evening, I love you, good night, etc. Also, thanks to my dad, I can say "put this in the garbage" and "give me the paper."

When I was there in 1998 (my first and only visit there so far) I could understand much of what people were saying, but I couldn't participate in the convo without someone translating for me. That's one of my dad's biggest regrets - not teaching us Bulgarian. My mom is American, so I didn't hear Bulgarian spoken daily at home. Another difficulty is that not only is the language different as far as grammar & sentence structure, but it's the Russian alphabet, with different sounds than the English alphabet.

I did buy a "teach yourself Bulgarian" book & tape before I went there, which helped, but I was just finishing school at the time & wasn't able to devote a lot of time to it. I may go back next spring, so if I do I will have to really make an effort to learn the language.

I have two questions for Homer:

Homer, have you ever liked Stevie?
Oh YES!!! I used to LOVE Stevie. Like most of the world, I fell in love with Rumours, and probably loved all three songwriters equally. Through Tusk, Live, and Mirage, I was the biggest FM fan in the world. Bella Donna came along(which, btw, I think is a MASTERPIECE), and my love for Stevie really blossomed. I saw the Wild Heart tour, and RAL tour. Wild Heart was a damned good album, although still not a BD. RAL, well, just didn't quite do it for me. The songs were kinda bland, as was now her singing range, BUT, I forgave her an album that was "so-so". Well, the OSOTM comes along........sh*tty songs, and her singing range is reduced to this vocally lethargic molasses. A performer who I once considered GREAT, well, I was now kind of ashamed of. She dropped the ball. It's no coincidence that each solo album sold about half of what the previous effort had. The quality was obviously diminishing(except for the hearing impaired):wavey:. I was done with her now, as (honestly), I found her quite boring now....
How did you get so into Chris and why?
Well, in the late 80s and early 90s, I drifted away from FM. I'd still buy BTM, and whatever came out(not anything by Stevie, OSOTM created a moratorium on my Stevie wallet-BTW- I'd like a refund from Stevie for OSOTM- seriously!). Well, during these years, when I'd listen to FM, I now had a much greater appreciation for Christine and Lindsey. His production, and her voice. Her more rocking songs(Think About Me, Hold Me, YMLF, Don't Stop, Little Lies, ALAYF) are the absolute ESSENCE of Fleetwood Mac. They are the songs which best represent the GROUP as a whole.:woohoo:
Lindsey's songs sound like solo songs, as do Stevie's. Christine's songs sound like a group effort.
For me, Christine IS Fleetwood Mac.

Wow. I never would have guessed that you were ever a Stevie fan, although now that I think about it, it makes sense. No wonder you're such a big Stevie detractor, you're a "burned" fan . It's different I guess for those of us who were too young to have gone through all the F.M. stages and incarnations over a long, drawn out period of time. When I became a fan, I had all of the albums at my fingertips so my experience was a mass, uninterupted kind of experience with no lull or time between albums to really notice that huge of a difference. I didn't get to live their history in real time so I wasn't able to have that kind of perspective, I sometimes wish I had.

I'm starting to kind of re-discover Chris. I bought some of her pre-F.M. stuff at a record convention years ago but never seriously listened to it. I'm going to give it another listen as soon as I fix my record player.

Nah, Iron Maiden was/is/always will have a place in my heart/mind on a musical level. First album I ever bought on my own (At age 14) was Iron Maiden's "Powerslave". Would you believe I still own that original cassette copy after 22 years...And it still plays flawlessly (I am very, very, very, very, very, very, very anal about my music collection)

Of course I have the limited/expanded edition of "Powerslave" on cassette as well as the slipcover sleeve CD edition (What a bargain for $7.99)

Oh, I asked my above question to humor myself, since I feel nauseated and ill yet again (It's bad when ya walk and stumble around like a drunkard...But ya dont drink  )

Nah, Iron Maiden was/is/always will have a place in my heart/mind on a musical level. First album I ever bought on my own (At age 14) was Iron Maiden's "Powerslave". Would you believe I still own that original cassette copy after 22 years...And it still plays flawlessly

I love Maiden too. Of course Number of the Beast and Piece of Mind will always be my favorite albums. I even have a soft spot for 7th Son, and many people hate that album like it's the plague  But I say, sucks to all the naysayers!

Yes, I have. I'm about 146, which is about 14 lbs less than I was for the people who saw me in Vegas, and about 10 lbs less than what my usual weight was before I lost some, and about 13 lbs heavier than my normal weight of 133.

Tower: Didn't you use to be a singer? What did you sing? When/why did you stop?
I still am (for all intents and purposes) as much of a singer/songwriter as I used to be, except for now I am on hiatus/bandless. What does that mean??? Hmmmm......

I have been a singer and instrumentalist all my life. I was a music major in college- I had a double major: voice and bassoon. After college I went to work to pay bills and started dabbling in songwriting. My best friend and I formed a duo and started writing intently. Later we expanded to a trio- two female voices and myself, with all three of us playing guitar, piano and other various instruments. We recorded an acoustic album as an attempt to get management/label interest. We played all over Southern California for years. The whole acoustic thing was not satisfying me, so we branched out and added a rhythm section. That incarnation also recorded an album (and opened for Waddy Wachtel on one occasion). After the album, we had problems with the drummer (jail) and the bassist (flake/psycho). Those problems combined with directional differences and my, ahem, nervous breakdown resulted in the band falling apart.

Two thirds of the trio (me being one of the thirds) has attempted to get the whole thing going again on a couple of occasions, without success. Things change, people change- blah, blah, blah....

What did we sing? A lot of people compared our style us to Crosby, Stills, & Nash (and Young ;) ). We'd get some Fleetwood Mac-y comps every once in a while. I have a piano and a guitar at home. My primary rock instrument is the piano/keys. I play and sing at the piano pretty much every day. I haven't been writing much lately- I'm kind of like Stevie in that I don't have much to write about these days. For me, it's harder to compose when I'm happy. And a lot of my issues have been said and done, and I prefer not to revisit the same old topic- unlike Miss Nicks.

I can't say I necessarily wanted to be a mod, but I did try to help keep the peace on the original Ledge, just out of gratitude towards Marty & Lis. So when Marty was getting ready to open up the revamped boards and asked me if I'd be a mod, I gave it some thought and then accepted.

As for the last question... well, I can also be a spiteful bastard if I want to be. :D But I try to do the right thing, and I try to be respectful towards everyone (though it can be tough to be respectful towards people who don't offer respect in return), so hopefully that counts for something.

I have a question for you, Jyqm. Who is your favorite poet, or, what is your favorite poem if you had to choose?

Oh my. Hmm. I'm not sure I could pick just one poet. There are so many who are good in such different ways for such different reasons. Byron is definitely up there, not just for the content of his poetry but for his incredible mastery of form. Look at something like Don Juan, where he manages to write this incredibly long epic poem, hundreds and hundreds of pages, and all of it is in these Italian iambic pentameter octaves, abababcc, which ought to sound so sing-songy and stupid in English, abababcc, but he makes it work so brilliantly and tells this amazing story. To have that kind of mastery over the English language is just incredible to me. How does he do that?

My favorite poem of the past few months, though:

"Berryman"
W.S. Merwin

I will tell you what he told me
in the years just after the war
as we then called
the second world war

don't lose your arrogance yet he said
you can do that when you're older
lose it too soon and you may
merely replace it with vanity

just one time he suggested
changing the usual order
of the same words in a line of verse
why point out a thing twice

he suggested I pray to the Muse
get down on my knees and pray
right there in the corner and he
said he meant it literally

it was in the days before the beard
and the drink but he was deep
in tides of his own through which he sailed
chin sideways and head tilted like a tacking sloop

he was far older than the dates allowed for
much older than I was he was in his thirties
he snapped down his nose with an accent
I think he had affected in England

as for publishing he advised me
to paper my wall with rejection slips
his lips and the bones of his long fingers trembled
with the vehemence of his views about poetry

he said the great presence
that permitted everything and transmuted it
in poetry was passion
passion was genius and he praised movement and invention

I had hardly begun to read
I asked how can you ever be sure
that what you write is really
any good at all and he said you can't

you can't you can never be sure
you die without knowing
whether anything you wrote was any good
if you have to be sure don't write

Rusk: I 'm not sure it is actually called like that in english  . It's like a slice of bread, but it is very hard. Like a very big crouton perhaps..Hope it makes sense.

I had forgotten to mention Marianne Faithfull on my list.I was completely fascinated by her when I was a bit younger. But I haven't heard her collaborations with PJ Harvey..:( I should, though. I like Songs From the City/Sea a lot (or is it "stories"? My favorite was her duet with Thom Yorke of Radiohead). Have you seen her live?? Samsung Pleomax CDR's, Available from musiciansfriend.com (25 pack spindle for about $7.99)

Brian Have you seen "Some Kind Of Monster?"

"Some Kind of Sorryass drama to just make a terrible half-attempt at a metal Album?", Yeah saw it and laughed at how pathetic it portrayed ME-Tallica (aka "Lars...Lars...Lars" in a "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia" kinda way)

Cant forget Dave "Boohoo" Mustaine's part...Damn dude, Get over it already, Megadeth still has a somewhat "street cred" that ME-Tallica has long since lost.

Thankfully from the recent reports of the album in progress is that Rick Rubin's has lit a fire under their arses and the new music is in a ol' "Ride the Lightning/Master of Puppets" style of metal...Maybe they can still show that they have some "nu-ticals" left in the tank for metal.

Oh wow, you like Slint too? I don't know ANYONE who likes them (besides my husband). Don't you just love Spiderland? Good Morning, Captain is one of my favorite songs of all time.

So my question for you is: Do you know whatever happened to them?

:wavey:

Spiderland is one of my favourite albums of all time!

They split up in 1994 but got back together last year and I saw them when they played London. They looked a lot older but sounded incredible. I really never thought I'd ever get to see them live. The closest I ever got before that was seeing The For Carnation (singer/guitarist Brian McMahan's band) a few years back.
Guitarist David Pajo's work as Papa M is pretty good too btw.

my other question is for trackaghost:

Did you see fleetwood mac on the rumours tour in england/europe? if you did, what was the reception like?

I think I would have been about two years old during the Rumours tour, so no I didn't get to see them then. But I did get to see Star Wars that year, although at just two years old I don't think I really appreciated it.

Maria- have you started dating yet, and if so do you enjoy it or hate it?
Thanks for asking! Yes, I have. And it really sucks. One of my best friends talked me into going on match, which is more like a meat market, but I have talked to some interesting people on there. I finally went and met one who seemed pretty normal. Actually, he was a really nice guy, but, I am pretty paranoid about certin things, and he didn't yet need to know my home phone number or my address. (he had my cell) Anyhow, he works for our local cable company, and he went and looked up my exact address, and went on to tell me that "oh! I know exactly where you live..." Well, that freaked me out, and after I kindly told him I didn't appreciate it, I havent' spoke to him since. I've been out a few times with others, some just once, and then, there was one I talked to for a little while. No one has really "done it" for me yet, though. And I'm really in no big hurry, either. I've gotten quite comfortable where I'm at. ;)

Dammit! You weren't supposed to ask. OK, habitually, no. When I'm drinking, yes. It's not often, but when I do have a drink, I'm dying for a cigarette. I'll have 2 or 3, and then wake up the next morning regretting it because I stink and my lungs hurt. It will be 8 months on the 8th not doing it all the time, though.

I went and picked up my neurological exam (MRI) today and found out what is causing my problems, Seems I have a arachnoid cyst in the anterior portion of the right middle cranial fossa which is 2.2cm x 3.5 cm (Roughly 1" x 1.5") extra-axial space.

My results suggest I should have another MRI performed in 6 months to make sure the arachnoid cyst has remain stable (In other words, to make sure it is not increasing in size.)

So I guess on Monday I will be making yet another appointment with my Doctor to see where we go from here.

John would know nothing about it.

all the bands performing were filmed (or probably videotaped) by the US organization or bill graham (whose org produced the festivals), only for promotional or marketing purposes, never for complete broadcast. that's why bits & pieces of it showed up in news segments on the band, kinda like the filming the band arranged for several tours of the Landover cap centre shows.

I think mtv showed a number or two from the performers, which is how we got tusk & songbird.

Folks forget that besides the music festival amphitheater and its requisite support facilities of beer garden, campgrounds, public toilets, first aid station, food service stands, field hospital, security office, etc., there were five large tents housing the US Festival Technology Exposition! And it was, quite literally, the tech behind the music. The tents of the Tech Exposition were in an area behind the music stage. It was Woodstock meets Comdex (the long-running computer industry trade show held annually in Las Vegas). It was all just a big "park" with some lawn but mostly dirt. They just stuck the stage up out there. The amphitheatre wasn't built until many years after--it's called Blockbuster Pavilion & they sometimes do Ozzfest out there. It's a ****ty area, it's out there off I-15 on the way to Victorville. That tech expo at US fest was .... well, let's just say you went in to see it just to get out of the heat & to get some a/c in your face. The first year was really awful because it was about 97 in the sun. The second year was still in the springtime & wasn't nearly as bad (but of course the second year fleetwood mac didn't play).

My hunch is that it was probably the last time that that configuration of fleetwood mac ever did an outdoor woodstock-style festival. Although I'm trying to find out whether they did an outdoor festival at boulder stadium in colorado on the mirage tour. I don't think they did but I saw something fishy once. And from 97 to the present, they haven't done a festival.

Why would it, when it's not their best work? I recommend "Paradise" - incredible accoustic guitar, passionate vocal. Great tune.

I think they kind of got stuck in the middle - they had a lot of critical acclaim, and a pretty hardcore fan base (still do.) But they weren't a "hair band" and that's what was hot at that point.

That's tough. I would want to say Fleetwood Mac 1970 and 1973, as well, but their relative lack of stature was more due to tragic changes within the band rather than public or critical indifference.

I'm always surprised when I remember that Wilco isn't as popular as I usually imagine them to be. Josh Rouse really ought to be more popular, too. But they're still young, they've got plenty of time move up in the world.

If David's saying The Replacements got lost in REM's commercial wake, I'll say the same for Pavement being overshadowed by the likes of Nirvana.

Anyone remember the video of "Mr. Roboto"? The "kid" in that video was a former bandmate of mine Blake Bachman. (we toured British Columbia together in 1982 in a band called "Painter") Hmmm..either they did a second video or they cut Blake out of it...I just watched it again over on VH-1's site. Brian J - How's your head? Did they rule out a stroke since this new cyst diagnosis came up?

Here is the MRI report results:

History: Headaches, dizziness, confusion, unusual calcification in the right temporal lobe reported on prior CT scan.

Findings: There is a 2.2 cm X 3.5 cm extraaxial space in the anterior portion of the right middle cranial fossa. (Roughly 1" x 1.5")

Elsewhere, there is no mass, mass effect, midline shift, hydrocephalus, abnormal extraaxial fluid collection or hemorrage. The gray/white junction is maintained. The region of the sella is unremarkable. The cerebellum is unremarkable; there is no tonsillar ectopia.

Impression:
Suspected arachnoid cyst versus focal atrophy in the anterior portion of the right middle cranial fossa. Although calcification has been reported in this region, MRI is suboptimal compared to CT scan, for evaluating for calcification. Otherwise, MRI of the brain is unremarkable. Followup MRI would be reasonable in six months, to confirm stability.

--------------------------

Have to setup an appt. with my Dr. to decide how to treat this arachnoid cyst...And yes, the doctors & radiologist do believe I had a stroke in the recent past (Considering where that cyst is located, and it's size that may have caused the stroke).

At least now it explains some of the nuerological problems I have suffered as of late, And the weakness I have on my rightside of my body.

Thin Lizzy was never given credit until after their breakup in 1983 and Phil Lynott's death in 1986.

The Thin Lizzy two guitar attack w/melodies from great players Brian Robertson, Scott Gorham, Gary Moore, John Sykes & Snowy White was something to behold (In the late 70's Thin Lizzy opened for Queen during one of their US tours, The bands took turns blowing each other off the stage nightly, What I wouldnt give to have seen one of those shows)...And even the original guitarist Eric Bell was damn jammin'.

but once when I saw the doctor as a child the doc pulled a dead WASP out of one of my ears!! How it got there still is a mystery, Freaked my Mom out but I thought it was cool

Below is some online info to give ya some understanding of what a arachnoid cyst is:

http://arachnoidcyst.org/functions.html

"Your brain swims in three membranes. The first outer layer of the brain is the Dura Mater. The next layer is the arachnoid membrane, called the arachnoid because of it's spider web appearance where cereal spinal fluid flows (the blood of the brain that is basically protein) so neurons can flow from your brain to your spinal cord which also gets blood into the brain through the sub arachnoid space as well as paths to cranial nerves. The Pia Mater is the root of your nervous system (think of the root of a plant) which supplies the brain with blood and connects via the arachnoid trabecula.

When you have a cyst blocking the messages from the brain to the spinal cord and the electric signal doesn't get through properly you may start to notice cognitive, emotional or physical problems. Examples such as getting lost down your street, inexplicable and explosive temper tantrums or dropping a glass. This is age relative and the data for children's reactions is inconclusive. The arachnoid and Pia membranes are the lepomeneges. There are considered a part of connective tissue (the leg bone's connected to the thigh bone the thigh bones connected hip bone the hip bone's connected to your nervous system... you get it, right?) which is why I feel this is, indeed, a connective tissue disorder which is why several of the adults are diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.

An Arachnoid Cyst is nestled between the Dura and Pia Maters. If you can find a good surgeon you should have laser surgery to completely remove the cyst from your brain however when the cyst is sub-arachnoid they can't go in and cut it out because of the chances of hemmorage and paralyzation. Most conditions involving the Pia mater eventually cause the patient to be paralyzed which is why stem cell research is necessary so hopefully one day they can heal these afflictions.

Where your cyst is depends on which kinds of symptoms you have. Some people remain "asymptomatic" but once you become "symptomatic" your life becomes a living hell. Some people do not suffer from pain at all. I am under the conclusion that Arachnoid Cysts are extremely dangerous to your mental health and general well being because you are always fighting the pain you are in it makes it difficult to control other aspects of your life, such as communicating. These things can cause more ailments such as Multiple Sclerosis, Syringomyelia, auto immune disease and if congenital there could be signs of spinal problems. "

Have you heard their first album? There's nothing remotely "college jam band" about it, although I agree that description could apply to some of their later stuff.
Am I crazy for being a bigger fan of Stephen Malkmus's solo stuff than Pavement?

I'd like this too, unfortunately the last music purchase I made was for a friend's birthday present and it set me back a bit. The next purchases I plan on making are the new Neil Young album and this Thin Lizzy collection.

I've read where Gary Dourdan (Warrick Brown on CSI) is playing Phil Lynott in a bio-movie.

Golddustwoman77 - what do you teach? (subject and age range)

:sorry: to be so late with this. I just now saw it. :D Thanks so much for the question. I'm honored. :xoxo:

Well, I taught fourth grade, all subjects (math, reading, language arts, science, social studies, health, etc.) for nine years. This year, my school started a science lab for second through eighth grade, and they asked me to teach that. Therefore, I am, and the students and I are loving it! It is so fun to do interesting, science experiments all day. I'm very lucky.

golddustwoman77-How's Alison doin'?

Once again, :sorry:, I just now saw this one as well. I hope you will forgive me. :xoxo: I'm honored that you asked me a question.

Alison is great!:D She is like me wishing the school year would end. The students and us need a break for awhile. She is still Beatles crazy as ever!!!!!!! I'm surprise you guys aren't trading something right now. She has some new things, because she just did some big, overseas trade. You might want to email her. ;)

On that note, I wanted to thank you for the CD that you sent me when you guys did your last trade! That was extremely, extremely sweet of you to do. The downside is, when she got it, it was cracked. :( Hey, you get one million, gold stars from me anyway. It is the thought that counts.

never had that happen before with a trade, First time I ever heard a disc being destroyed/damaged thanks in part to the US Postal Service...Oh well, Next time I trade with Alison I will send another copy.

I have cut back on trading due to illness (See some of my earlier posts in this thread) at this time.

Only thing I am doing as of late is building onto my official cd collection-Just added the following discs today:

"Double Live"-Yngwie J. Malmsteen

"One Night Only"-Thin Lizzy

Which band do you think should have been bigger than what they eventually achieved in stature?

Although they're huge in the UK, T-Rex is basically only known for Bang a Gong over here in North America. Ahh, they are soooo much more than that. Marc Bolan was so young and yet such a gigantic, prolific talent. I wish you guys could all hear Electric Warrior back to front right now.

I did and thought it blew chunks...Why does EmptyVee Networks continually ridicule metal and have half-wits appear on their countdown shows to give their takes, when most wouldnt know metal if I unloaded my aluminum bat (Which has a huge metal donut weight on the barrel) across the bridge of their pompous noses.

Of course EmptyVee Networks/VH 1 Classic once again played it safe.

Any Ledgie - what was your first album?
Mine was Styx - Mr. Roboto (dad bought it for my bro & me.) Wham! Make It Big was the first album just for me. Then my brother scratched it. Bastard.
My first album was Elton John's Greatest Hits, Xmas 4th grade. I remember my first five albums really well, as I used to lay them out and gaze at them, and cream of the collection growing, until I could no longer easily count. These were all purchased in 5th grade:
2. Kiss "Destroyer" (wanted that power ballad, "Beth")
3. ELO "New World Record"
4. Fleetwood Mac "Rumours"
5. Steve Miller Band "Book of Dreams"

I always started my show with a television theme song. I think the one I played on my first show was The Mary Tyler Moore Show, although I don't really remember. But I definitely remember that the first song after that was William Shatner, "Common People."

Yeah, I know, my show was pretty awesome.

My question is for David & Jyqm: what was the first concert you ever went to and can you remember much about it?

I never went to any concerts when I was really young, so I think my first concert was actually Stevie in south Florida on the Enchanted tour. (I missed out on the Dance tour, unfortunately.) She played what at the time was known as the Coral Sky Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach. Isn't that a pretty name for an outdoor concert venue in south Florida? Of course, since then, it's had any number of idiotic corporate names slapped on it. I think now it's the Sound Advice Amphitheatre. Blecch.

Anyway, I think I went with both of my parents, and we had pretty good seats in the pavilion, within the first twenty rows. I didn't own any of Stevie's individual albums yet, having just gotten into Fleetwood Mac the previous year, but I knew all of the songs since I had bought Enchanted the week it came out. (I remember I watched her appearances on Letterman and Leno that week, and then on Saturday afternoon my mom and I biked down to the mall to buy it. It was the weekend of the Ft. Lauderdale Air & Sea Show, so we biked along the beach and gaped at the monstrous crowds and cool planes going by.)

The show was fantastic, pretty much everything I imagined it would be, and Stevie was in great voice. Of course I loved hearing all the warhorses (especially "Outside the Rain"/"Dreams," "Stand Back" and "Edge Of Seventeen") since it was my first time, but even then, my absolute favorite part of the show was the acoustic set ("After The Glitter Fades" - "Garbo" - "Rose Garden" - "Sleeping Angel"), because it felt so intimate, and Stevie told her little stories before each song (and unlike Lindsey, even when Stevie gives the same spiel at every show, she makes it sound like she's talking just to you and telling you this for the very first time), and she seemed so excited to be playing these long-lost gems, and the crowd just fed off that excitement and was so appreciative to be hearing these songs, and of course I nearly fell over when she launched into "Sleeping Angel," which was one of my favorites, since she had said that the acoustic set would just be three songs. Beyond that, my other favorites of the night were "Gold & Braid" and "Twisted" (which was really awesome, as I'd only heard the demo at that point).

So that's my problem with Stevie now, I suppose. I got good and spoiled at my first show, with that amazing acoustic set where Stevie seemed to be so happy and excited to be singing these obscure songs and telling her little stories, and they all sounded so beautiful and intimate with the stripped-down acoustic arrangements. And now all those songs are gone, while the warhorses have remained and are more tired than ever, and everything is all chugging guitars or syrupy-synthy keyboards and lord how I wish she would do something like this again.

My question is for David & Jyqm: what was the first concert you ever went to and can you remember much about it?It was probably a symphony or a piano recital & I was probably a well-behaved 7 or 8. Aside from concerts at the schools & that kind of thing, the first true concert hall I ever attended was probably a place out here in Pasadena called Ambassador Auditorium. I basically grew up at the Ambassador Auditorium, seeing the world's great pianists, violinists, vocalists & orchestras.

my first rock concert was in St. Louis out at some big park--Three Dog Night or something. I was a pre-teen. It was probably some sort of "free concert in the park" sort of thing where you picnic.

The most recent rock concert I saw was Fleetwood Mac at the sports arena in Anaheim back ... in ... uhhh .... '03?

Oh, and Rick Springfield's Greatest Hits.

No way. You totally own things that are way more embarrassing than Rick Springfield.

I own Working Class Dog and am damn proud of it. When an album features "Love Is Alright Tonite" AND "Jessie's Girl" AND there is a dog in a business suit on the cover, you know you got yourself a classic right there, boy.

As for me... are we talking about albums that we currently own? Because, really, I don't feel embarrassed about anything I've got on my iPod right now. (This fact really ought to surprise no one.)

If we're talking about any album we've ever owned, I used to have the soundtracks to a bunch of different animated Disney movies on tape when I was younger. I loved that ****. Used to own the Titanic soundtrack, too. And Cats! What the hell was wrong with me? I think my grandparents took me to go see it one time, and my grandmother loved "Memory" and asked me to learn how to play it on the piano for her.

Actually, sticking with soundtracks, I think I'm fairly embarrassed to still own the Practical Magic soundtrack. Obviously I only bought it for one reason, but lord, do I feel shamed to own any CD that includes that goddamn "Coconut" song. Rot in hell, Nilsson.

The one I AM embarrassed about...the double LP, Bee Gees In Concert.

And, to a lesser extent of the embarrassment scale, I do own a couple of hundred LPs that would fall into the "70s Progressive Rock" category...Yes, ELP, The Nice, King Crimson, Kraftwerk, Nektar, Gentle Giant, Peter Gabriel-era Genesis, PFM, Triumvirat, Curved Air, Daryl Way's Wolf, Babe Ruth, Starcastle...and those are the ones that are fairly "known"...have many more that are even MORE obscure.

It's in a plain jewel case with no artwork. We just started a random conversation at the Continental Club. He wasn't even doing a showcase there, he was there to see Kris Kristofferson and Shooter Jennings, I had no idea who he was until he told me. Very cool, and down to earth guy!

Ha! I just found him on myspace: http://www.myspace.com/rolanbolan
Cool! New stuff I haven't heard yet!!

What a great experience you had Livia!
I'll have to give his stuff a listen.

listening to progressive rock, Dream Theater is my current choice...Wished newer bands in the US would be more open minded and more musically inclined (In other words, Try learning to solo on the guitar asstards)

Hell, Dream Theater toured with Yes in 2004 as Yes' special guests and many old-timers were suprised by DT musical prowess.

Gimme progressive rock & progressive metal and I am a happy guy!!!

Prog metal rules! I've gotta listen to some Dream Theater, I've heard great things lately from many people.
