hi...i dont know if you missed this
or chose/choose not to respond
but i didnt think it would be
'right' not mentioning/bumping

:xoxo:

I missed it! So thanks for the bump.

Hmmmm....lemme think. I work in a college health office, so I don't get too many really urgent or scary things, but here's some gross stuff.

*One girl complained of eye pain. We put dye in her eye (the dye will be darker on injuries/scratches) & looked at it under the special lamp - there was a straight line going right down the center of her eye. Turns out she had an eyelash bothering her so she tried to remove it. WITH A STRAIGHT PIN. A-Hole.

*Kid came in with a pulse of about 160 & abnormal EKG. Didn't want us to send him to the ER cuz he had been doing coke all night & thought we would call the cops. Idiot.

*Warning against wearing flip-flops - girl came in with blood gushing from her toe. She had flip flops on, and when she opened a door, the bottom of the door caught on her big toenail & tore it partway off. So it was ripped off the nailbed, but still attached enough that it wouldn't come right off, sticking straight up in the air. The provider had to numb the area by injecting lidocaine under the nail *shudder* and go under the nail & cut it off the bed with scissors. They always taught us in school not to let a patient know that something's grossing you out or upsetting you. I had a really hard time with that one.

*We get lots of kids that cut off the tips of their fingers, or accidentally stab themselves with knives. It's usually while cutting food, but the architecture students work with utility knives a lot when building models so it's pretty common for them. It's a running joke that an arch. student won't have any fingertips left by the time they're done with school.

*Oooh! Nice recent one - some kid got drunk & passed out one night. So his friends decided to heat up a fork with a lighter & brand his arm with it. Gross. 2nd & 3rd degree burns, it's not healing at all, the kid thinks it's funny. Yeah, you'll be laughing your ass off when you go through skin grafts, jerk.

*Girl got elbowed in the face playing field hockey & bit her tongue. It bifurcated (sp) & looked like a snake tongue. Yeah, we sent her to the ER.

My first CD was Sheryl Crow's Tuesday Night Music Club...must've been 1994.

The most embarrassing CD I've ever owned, though I don't currently own it, would probably be Mariah Carey's Music Box. Ugh. How my taste has changed...

I would think a monkey, due to its athleticism and dexterity. Giraffes seem nice creatures but monkeys are evil. Especially the little ones. Then again it depends on the type of monkey doesn't it. Not all primates upset me.

Take chimps... Great creatures, apart from the one in the White House.

I have to agree. I mean a giraffe has size in its favour but that big ole neck is just gonna get in its way. But the only way we're ever gonna know is if we see that fight. Do you think Seven Wonders might try and organise that event for us? I'd definitely pay $350 to see a monkey fight a giraffe! It would be almost as good as seeing Stevie fight off obsessed fans.

Yeah the neck is just too long and slow to move.. And the monkey could climb it no problem then start poking it in the eyes...

 Nope, never seen Sandra Bullock. I'm sure she stays hidden away somewhere and never goes out, or is always out of town working. She used to date Bob Schneider, a local musician here in Austin, but they broke up years ago. I have never seen anyone famous in Austin I don't think, oh wait, except Mary Steenburgen, I saw her in this clothing shop called By George but that was years ago.

Anyway, yeah, Austin is like where it's at man, unless by "cool" you mean temperature-wise and then I'd have to say that it's not cool at all, it's more like a blazing inferno of hotness! If you ever come to visit, don't come in the summer .

Thank you, this is the best post I've seen in ages. I will never get the flip-flop craze, especially in a city, and some people's feet are just not supposed to be seen. There's nothing worse than walking behind a big gaggle of flip-floppers listening to that slap slap slap.

The "craze" is that I don't want my feet to be hot, sweaty, and confined in shoes. Besides, they make dress thongs now. I would wear them always if I could. I also don't wear them unless I've done my toes.

Amen sister. I love open toed sandals and mules! I get what you're talking about though Strand, and I like to refer to those kinds of flip-flops as shower shoes, you know the kind you buy in the drugstore that are cheap, flimsy and made mostly of foam and plastic? Yeah, those should not be worn "out" but people like to pass them off as if they're real shoes. I don't know about anyone else, but I would be afraid of stepping on something that might make it's way through the flimsy foam sole!

Most of my thongs are platform dressy thongs. I have one pair that is black, except for around the whole wedge, it is brilliant red satin chinese print. They are gorgeous. Another pair is platform and beige, but has lots of pretty beading on the part of the thong that goes over the top of your arch. Another pair are black high heel strappy dress thongs. I have another pair that are pretty high platform, wood footpad with black leather straps with black and brown beads on the part that goes between your toes. I also have some brown heel thongs with a kind of native design on the wide cross strap. I also have some gold heel thongs.
I have one pair of kicking around thongs, but they still aren't the super cheap thin soled, plastic strap kind. They are about an inch and a half high, made of brown smooth rubber stuff, and the straps are wide brown cloth.
Hmmm, I hardly have a pair for poolside...

Clearly, my love of thongs goes beyond...but part of the reason for that is that my toes form a shape that doesn't look good in sandals.

Other people on here say flip flops. I've always preferred "thongs", but I've always thought of "flip flops" as the cheap thin ones you use for casual things, and "thongs" as the dressy version of sandals that have a strap between the toes.
You are welcome to apply the descriptions of my thongs to any underwear you imagine I might have, though. :wavey:

flip flops always make me think of those crap cheap things you buy for the beach that just wear the skin from between the toes.

The ones the (mainly) American and German tourists wear over the standard white socks are reffered to generally over here as sandals and in NZ as jandals I think.

I have a pair of Nike neoprene ones that are great for beach and sea wear but I'm not sure flip flops, thongs or sandals are the right words for them.

Okay, I can't wear mine much (and they sound like the exact same ones) because every time my foot goes down, they go "whhooosh" or "pfffffft", take your pick. Where'd you get yours? I think I got mine at this shoe store that used to be across the street from my apartment-- it was like a discount shoe store or something. Yeah, those shoes are awesome, i just wish the "thong" part was softer and more comfortable. Ah, the pain we must endure as women!.

I think I got mine in Macy's. Actually, I got them for my mom for a present, and she wore them a couple times, but gave them back to me a couple years later because she didn't really have places to wear them. I think they're Steve Madden, though.

I LOVE Monopoly. No one will play with me though. My family plays me about ONE pity game a year, just to get me to quit bitching about it.
Oh, it's on. Hmmm, there might be bloodshed....

Taboo and Cranium! Drunken (or stoned ) Taboo is the best!

Taboo is my favorite too!
And Pictionary.
I don't know what Cranium is though

for anyone who feels like answering:

What is your favorite game (Non-sport) to play? I love Sudoku (I'm an addict, I confess!)

I can't do Sudoku. I've renamed it Suckoku. Apparently, I really am dumb.

I LOVE Cranium (which, for whoever asked, is kind of a combination of charades, name that tune, word puzzles, pictionary & trivia. SO much fun.) Played Scene It a few weeks ago, that's pretty good. VH1's I Love the 80's is a riot, and Mark & I like to play the card game Phase 10.

But, like Homer, nobody ever wants to play with me either. :( Won't someone come play with me?

OH, Amber - 10,000 - is that when you roll several dice, and 3 of a kind = 100 times that number? Like, 3 6's is 600, and so on? We play something similar, especially when we're drunk camping (which is coming soon, btw. Can't wait.)

Yep. And only ones and fives are worth anything by themselves. Isn't it fun? You just roll and don't have to think. And then you could lose it all!
I thought your drunk camping trips were in august? Or is that the cabin thing? I guess I can't keep all the haps of your fabulous life straight....

YES! The 5's & the 1's! Love that game. Drunk camping is in July, but as soon as the temperature is above freezing here, I start looking forward to it & tell everyone how I'm going camping soon.

A group of us finally got together to have a "game night" a few weeks ago & I had so much fun. We didn't invite those who never wants to play or bitch about it the whole time. Hopefully we can do it again soon.

I haven't played Monopoly in a looooong time.
