Tom Keifer. :D Don't F with Cinderella David. They're one of the few "hair" bands that actually had some talent. Their more recent stuff is more blues oriented, and pretty good actually. They're great live.

Kip, though, go ahead & tear him up all you want. He's ick.I wanted to ask you something else about what that guy saud Paula. I dont follow idol that closely, has Ruben's career really gone nowhere since his first release?

A quick hair band story for all of you. About 5 years ago or so, my friend and I were eating at a downtown Minneapolis resturant and there was this guy sitting at the table next to us. I knew I recognized him, but I couldnt put a finger on it. Finally I figured it out, it was Steven Pearcy of Ratt. My one frined is a HUGE Ratt fan so after he was finished with his meal I politely asked him if I could have his autograph for my friend. He was very nice and did just that. My friend now has it hanging on his wall at home.

ITA!!! Kip = ewww. Tom = dude, you rock! I saw them back in the day and they were so good.

Oh that's very true. However, I think also that there are certain people they want to see go all the way, and more or less foster their rise (with perhaps a FEW criticisms along the way but nothing major) so that they receive more votes than the others. It's so contrived!

Because... they're thin and pretty!

Round and round, what comes around goes around, I'll tell you why why... The band is still together apparently but he is not in it and I heard he is a d*ck. Though apparently was nice on this occasion.

I saw them last YEAR and they were good! Remember how Mark made me go to the "Rock Never Stops" tour?

David - they seem to have marketed Ruben as strictly R&B. I think he does OK, but you almost never hear him on Top 40 radio like you do Kelly or Clay. Fantasia - I hear a tune once in a while, but she's mainly R&B too. And they've obviously thrown Carrie straight into country.

These producers aren't dumb, they know what will sell & to what market.

I hung out with the band Cinderella- ha! I know it's one of those things that anyone could just SAY, but really- why would I brag about something like that? I had a friend who auditioned to be their drummer, so we got to hang with them- many years ago. They did get very blue-sy and I thought they were really talented.

You know who else is really great live? Slaughter. Seriously. I saw them a couple of years ago and they were great. The drummer is my one true love. He's still hot, btw.

Q+PR/AMERICAN IDOL PRESS RELEASE

HOT FROM FOX…

IT’S A BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY WHEN THE TOP 8 FINALISTS PERFORM THEIR FAVORITE QUEEN SONGS ON “AMERICAN IDOL” TUESDAY, APRIL 11, ON FOX

We will rock you when the AMERICAN IDOL Top 8 finalists perform their favorite songs by world-famous British rock band QUEEN on next week’s performance show, Tuesday, April 11 (8:00-9:00 PM ET live/PT tape delayed) on FOX. Earlier this week, the finalists had a chance to perform their songs with the legendary band at the latest stop on QUEEN's current tour, which features Free/Bad Company vocalist Paul Rodgers. Next Wednesday, after the finalists perform one of QUEEN’s hits, America's vote will be revealed and another one bites the dust on a special one-hour AMERICAN IDOL results show Wednesday, April 12 (8:30-9:32 PM ET Live/PT tape-delayed).

QUEEN came to popularity in the mid-1970s, topping the U.S. charts with singles such as "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" and "Another One Bites the Dust." They were rediscovered by a whole new generation of fans when "Bohemian Rhapsody," Freddie Mercury’s classic rock opus, was featured in the 1992 movie "Wayne's World," taking the song to the Top 10 for a second time. Their rock anthems "We Are the Champions" and "We Will Rock You" continue to be among the most-played tracks in America, both on the radio and at sports stadiums across the U.S., where they are heard over the loudspeaker at practically every major sporting event. In the UK, the band recently overtook the Beatles as the most successful band ever on the UK albums chart.

QUEEN has also influenced the world of musical theater, producing and writing with Ben Elton the hit rock musical “We Will Rock You.” The show is now approaching its fifth year in London’s West End and has spawned productions in Australia, Germany, Japan, Spain, Russia and Las Vegas, with an audience of over 5 million to-date.

QUEEN was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH, in 2001, the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002, and the inaugural UK Music Hall of Fame in 2004, where they were given credit for “jumpstarting the video era.”

QUEEN, with Paul Rodgers taking over for the late, legendary Mercury, are currently in the midst of their first major U.S. tour together, the band's first tour of this country since 1982.

For photos of QUEEN with the IDOL finalists, please go to www.FOXFLASH.com . Go to AmericanIdol.com for all of your AMERICAN IDOL news. Check out the special, behind-the-scenes photos and information on AMERICAN IDOL.

----------------------------

I have now lost respect for Mr.May & Taylor with their appearance on this crapfest of non-musical talent & instant stardom without the hard work.

Hey guys, Do not call yourself Queen anymore ok? Queen was/is/will always forever be Freddie Mercury (w/John Deacon on bass).

I have been to hair band shows in the recent past too. :o I went to that Poison/Whomever else one. I think Ratt and someone else. Good times.

I would rather listen to it than ANY American Idiotical Idol winners release...And I do!

I saw Ratt & Poison back in 1987...Too bad Joan Jett & the Blackhearts blew 'em both off the stage at that show.

Speaking of Ratt I found their 1983 self-titled EP on CD for $5.00...I could sell it easily on eBay for upwards of $70. For all the crap that was given to the Hollywood bands (I hate that hair-metal term) their music still brings top dollar over any of the other types of RECENT music in re-sale value.

As for Slaughter, Met 'em and thought Mark Slaughter & Dana Strum were the 2 biggest assholes (The other 2 members of Slaughter, the late Tim Kelly & Blas Elias, were however cool) I have ever met from the music world.

if those ****-on-a-stick "contestants" can even think of one single Queen track lyrically without it being the usual songs such as "We Will Rock You" or "We Are the Champions"...Let's see these hacks try to sing "Innuendo", "Breakthru" or "Dragon Attack" (I can tell ya it will be awfully bad...Bad as in Robert Plant's butchering of "Innuendo" at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Show!!! That was a SEVERE travesty!)

I saw Poison and those old school rock bands on tour in 2000 and 2001 3 times. To my suprise, besdies Poison, the BEST live band out of those was Quiet Riot. Not only did they play great live, the lead asshoole singer's vocals were amazing. I was shocked. Warrant was blaaaa, Slaughter so so, Cinderalla's vocals blaaa, but Quiet Riot rocked!

They do rock, I saw them at Monster's of Rock in the 80s and they were a real stand out. You're right about those vocals, he's an excellent live singer. Damn, I'm having flashbacks of when I got my new stereo and played my tapes in my room! Them were the days. ;)

Dude, seriously? QR was atrocious when I saw them last year, really really bad. Kevin Dubrow's (I think) vocals were OK, but I couldn't concentrate because I was distracted by his leopard print pant suit and the wig he was wearing.

Cinderella, on the other hand, kicked ass. Maybe I just saw an off night for QR, or maybe they started sucking 4 years after you saw them. Ratt was on the same bill (without Pearcy) and they may have been the worst band I've ever seen live, btw.

Paula Abdul Tells Police She Was Assaulted
Apr 06 8:00 PM US/Eastern

http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/04/06/D8GQQN906.html

Police are investigating a report by "American Idol" judge Paula Abdul that a man assaulted her at a private party over the weekend.

On Tuesday, Abdul filed a report at the Hollywood station claiming she had been a victim of battery about 1 a.m. Sunday, police Lt. Paul Vernon said Thursday.

"According to Abdul, the man at the party argued with her, grabbed her by the arm and threw her against a wall," Vernon said. "She said she had sustained a concussion and spinal injuries."

Abdul provided police with the name of the man, but Vernon withheld it pending further investigation. The man had not been charged, Vernon said.

Abdul's publicist Michelle Bega declined to comment. The incident was first reported by Us Weekly.

Abdul, who shares judging duties on Fox's hit talent show with Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson, appeared as scheduled on this week's "American Idol."

Last week, she signed a deal to remain on the show for another three years.

Advocate: Would you be comfortable performing or singing at a gay event?
Mandisa: I would not, no.

Would it conflict with your religious beliefs?
Based on what I believe, I'm not an advocate for [being gay], so it's nothing I would take part in.

Do you think that feeling contributed--along with your Web site profile--to some people not voting for you?
It's possible. Honestly, I'm not sure. I've heard a lot of different theories about what could have happened, and all of 'em sound pretty decent to me. So I just know I did my best and I tried to live my life in public the way I do in my personal life. You know, it was just my time and it could have contributed.

Do you think gay people can turn straight?
I don't really know. I honestly don't know much about it. I wouldn't be very knowledgeable to speak on that subject.

Good riddance, Mandisa!

Chris should do "Tie Your Mother Down" for Queen week! I adore that song...

Who will get the abbreviated version of "Bohemian Rhapsody?" Probably Ace, he can hit the falsetto. I wonder if Constantine will be jealous...

Taylor or Paris will probably do "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." Gag.

Our local rock station does a theme prom every spring at the Hyatt, and you have to dress up for the theme. Three years ago, it was 70's, two years ago, it was 80's, they hired Eddie Money to play for that. Last year, it was Pimps and Hos. One of Bob Schneider's many bands, The Scabs (funky!) played for that. This year it's the Hair Ball. They've hired Quiet Riot. Kinda the same as the 80's theme, but they want people to dress up more like rock stars from the 80's, with Aquanet being a major accessory. I've already got a room booked. :wavey:

:wavey:

Livia that party sounds totally fun! I just got my hair cut too so teasing it up would not be a problem. I love dressing up anyway, Halloween is the best. You are going to have such a blast.

If Ace does Bohemian Rhapsody I am going to vomit. But you may be right about that. I totally forgot about Tie Your Mother Down! My ex was in a band that did that song, it freaking rocks I agree. It is a complete sacrilege though that Idol is doing Queen songs. It is wrong on so many levels. And my pic and quote below have nothing to do with it, the quote has been rattling in my head for over a week and I had to get rid of Courtney. It is going to be interesting anyway.

No, but I read a story online (that I can't find now) about Bucky and his twin brother (Rocky?) filing a false police report and then attempting insurance fraud over a car accident a few years back. Rocky was apparently driving with a suspended license, got in a wreck, got Bucky to say he was driving, then bullied the other car's driver into going along with the story

According to USA Today, they'll be singing: (highlight for spoilers)

•Ace Young, We Will Rock You: ''I urbanized the verses a little, just by riding on (the notes). I put a little R&B soul on it. When we were done, they said, 'That sounds like a record.''

•Bucky Covington, Fat Bottomed Girls: ''Yes, we all love the fat-bottomed girls.''

•Chris Daughtry, Innuendo: ''It's a relatively unknown song. It just had a mixture of a dark feel and a positive message. And I just found out they've never performed this live.''

•Elliott Yamin, Somebody to Love: ''I was drawn to the passionate emotion of the song. I heard a lot of soul in it.''

•Katharine McPhee, Who Wants to Live Forever: ''How could (this) not be fun? We're working with so many different legends.''

•Kellie Pickler, Bohemian Rhapsody: ''We only have 1 minute and 30 seconds, and the song is really long. Having to cut so many pieces is really hard to memorize, because I'm not singing the song as it's originally played.''

•Paris Bennett, The Show Must Go On: ''Being with the band was a big experience to me, never being with a rock band before. I was able to pick a song that fits me, that's still rocky.''

•Taylor Hicks, Crazy Little Thing Called Love: ''You listen to a Queen song, it's really melodic and very powerful, and the dynamics (are) really cool.''

Elliot was the best tonight, IMO.. "Somebody To Love" is my all time favorite Queen song.. and although I was hoping Katharine would sing it.. I'm glad Elliot did and not anyone else.. he ROCKED IT! That white boy has some soul!

Although Katharine was a little pitchy in her song (it should have been taken down a 1/2 step).. I would say she was my second favorite..

Paris was my third favorite.. I LOVE "The Show Must Go On".. (Although I think of Moulin Rouge everytime I hear it now.. )

Kellie.. I was VERY shocked that she did that song well.. good for her..

Taylor.. I'm glad he switched songs and got back into his "dance" vibe.. wasn't my fav. but was still O.K.

Ace.. Boring and fake.

Bucky.. I thought he might go this week. but after seeing him perform tonight.. I'm not too sure.. He chose the right song and it worked well..

Chris.. picked THE WRONG SONG.. and he was doing some crazy "Stevie Nicks - goat-ish" thing with his voice.. and it didn't work well, IMO.. Wasn't the worst of the night.. but nowhere near the best.

"goatish" :laugh:

I agree with this, I thought it was, as Simon said, self-indulgent and I think it's gonna hurt him in the voting that he chose such an unrecognizable song. That said, he'll probably still be safe. And what was with his eyeliner last night? Dude can't pull off make-up so he shouldn't even go there.

I thought Bucky's song worked too, my husband HATED it, but that's mainly because he hates that song and he hates Bucky's voice so , but I thought it worked.

Taylor was ridiculous! Come on dude, stop acting like a clown already. I like it when he just sits there and sings and doesn't try to dance, because THAT? is horrific and sad

I liked Paris too, Katherine was boring, and Pickler chose a song WAAAAAAAY out of her range. She and Ace chose songs that were too big for them---Ace can't sing and Kellie's vocal range can't handle B.R. that's all there is to it.

Kellie Pickler is bold enough to sing a truncated 'Bohemian Rhapsody'

COMMENTARY
By By Craig Berman
MSNBC

Seriously, enough is enough. Whoever decides the theme for "American Idol" needs to go on the Internet and download music from bands that have been popular within the last two decades.

Already this season, the show has featured Barry Manilow and Kenny Rogers. This week, the signature act was Queen, a band that not only offered the late, great Freddie Mercury as the lead singer, but also a catalog of songs with enough chord changes and vocal stretches to make for a night of challenging performances.

Watching and listening to the remaining members of Queen interact with the "Idol" finalists didn't do anything to ease those fears. The band looked as if they were wondering how they had arrived at a stage in their career where they were sharing the stage with a bunch of people whose first exposure to their music was in "Wayne's World." And now those same Queen newbies were trying to switch around the band's arrangements to make them easier to sing. Could the potential new fan exposure really be worth the risk that Kellie Pickler would butcher "Bohemian Rhapsody," or Taylor Hicks would have a seizure in the middle of "Crazy Little Thing called Love"?

Those factors made this week look like a potential trainwreck, but it was a surprisingly entertaining effort. The contestants and the judges each deserve credit for that. The eight remaining finalists did a nice job with their song selections (even if Hicks and Katharine McPhee were unsure enough that they changed their mind late in the week), and kept their composure - despite the stylists' decision to make everyone look like Queen by giving them eye shadow and glam rock outfits. Thankfully, the judges seemed to grade on a curve.

Everyone had pitch problems, because every song had a ton of chord changes that made it hard to keep up, but Randy and Paula mentioned the flaws briefly and then moved on. It was a rare act of kindness, since Mercury was one of the premier rock vocalists in history and none of the eight "Idol" finalists are close to meeting that standard.

Bucky Covington, 28, Rockingham, N.C. : Covington dealt with the "Queen" issue by taking "Fat Bottomed Girls" and countrifying it. It worked out as well as could be expected. He was still drowned out by the music, as he is every week, but he looked comfortable out there. He received praise from the two judges who would not have to help produce his album if he wins.
Grade: B-
The judges: "You stayed true to who you are, and you made 'Fat Bottomed Girls' a country song." - Paula Abdul.
Stay or go: Who the heck knows? Covington's defied the odds thus far, and he sang pretty well. Maybe he can keep the magic going another week. But it doesn't help his chances that he was the first singer of the night and that most of the finalists sang well.

Ace Young, 25, Denver, Colo.: Since the Queen catalog isn't full of songs suitable for Young to cover, he decided to go with "We Will Rock You" and throw himself on the mercy of the sports fans who chant the lyrics at hockey games. The effort was there, but his vocals were a hodgepodge of styles that made the whole thing sound like a mess. He began with a bit of a British accent, changed the arrangement in the middle, and appeared to stumble on some of the words. Though he closed with a flourish, it was far from his best effort.

Grade: C-
The judges: "It was 'We Will Rock You' gently. I really really really really hated that. I'm sorry." - Simon Cowell.
Stay or go: Based on this week alone, Young is probably gone. But he clearly has a dedicated fan base, since he wasn't even among the bottom three last week. He'll need another dedicated effort from those supporters to stick around.

Kellie Pickler, 19, Albemarle, N.C.: Pickler decided to go with her 90-second version of the legendary "Bohemian Rhapsody." Anyone out there rolling their eyes and cringing at the thought of her attempting that song would be at one with the judges, the studio audience and everyone who loves music. But she did a credible job, and surprisingly was better doing the rock finale than the opening ballad. It was the first time she's looked comfortable singing anything besides country. Oh, and add the expression "it looked bad on paper" to the list of modern sayings Pickler has supposedly never heard before.
Grade: B+
The judges: "When I first heard today you were gonna do that song, I was worried. But I think you worked it out. I was entertained." - Randy Jackson.
Stay or go: Pickler hasn't been in the bottom three yet, and probably won't be this week either.

CONTINUED: Chris feels right at home with arena rock

Chris Daughtry, 26, McLeansville, N.C.: Anyone who likes Daughtry's signature style of shouting into the microphone like he's at a dive bar with a burned-out microphone had to be happy with his performance. Daughtry sang "Innuendo," a song that the band reportedly never performed live. It doesn't take a genius to realize that perhaps the reason for that is that the song isn't very good, but Daughtry did a nice job with it anyway. Considering he's the only one in the competition with anything resembling the persona needed to play arena rock, that's no surprise.
Grade: A
The judges: "I just think it's a shame that you didn't decide to entertain the audience at home with one of the great Queen songs, because you could have had a moment tonight." - Simon Cowell.
Stay or go: Daughtry should be safe.

Katharine McPhee, 21, Los Angeles: McPhee decided to change from "Don't Stop Me Now" to "Who Wants to Live Forever," a haunting ballad best known for being in "Highlander." The arrangement was strange at times, possibly due to some residual annoyance at having to tear up their work and start over so late in the week, but it was a great decision to go with the slower song. It allowed her to show off the power in her voice, which she did well enough to impress all three judges.
Grade: A-
The judges: "I love when I see an artist make a change to . change their mind. And you made the right decision." - Paula Abdul
Stay or go: Much like in "Highlander," at the end of this "Idol" season there can be only one. McPhee is doing her best to be that winner. She sang well enough to survive, although the fact that she's been in the bottom two already is cause for concern.

Elliott Yamin, 27, Richmond, Va.: Here are some of the jobs Elliott Yamin has had: Fast-food worker, corporate employee and a DJ on the air between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Does that make him a more sympathetic figure to vote for? After finishing with the second-fewest votes last week, he certainly hopes so. Yamin sang Queen's "Somebody to Love" well enough to earn increased support. He's the rare contestant who would benefit more from Paula's advice. His vocals are fine, but he still moves around onstage like a teenager afraid to look ridiculous - he won't move his feet unless the rotation of the earth forces him to.
Grade: B
The judges: "All in all, I loved you man. I thought it was really really good."- Randy Jackson.
Stay or go: Yamin is the hardest finalist to predict, because he sailed through the competition until he finished with the second-fewest number of votes last week. He should survive, but will probably be back in the bottom three again.

Talyor Hicks, 29, Birmingham, Ala.: Hicks joined McPhee in the ranks of contestants who annoyed all the musicians and background vocalists by changing his mind at the last minute. In his case, he went from "We Are the Champions" to "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." After two weeks of standing around like a statue onstage, he felt like he needed to be entertaining. Simon asked him if he was drunk, but the switch was a smart one; he's not going to win this by being conventional, but by being the best entertainer. And his performance was definitely the most entertaining of the night.
Grade: A-
The judges: "I don't know whether we should give you a record deal or a straitjacket." - Paula Abdul
Stay or go: Hicks is safe. Crazy, but safe.

Paris Bennett, 17, Fayetteville, Ga.: Bennett sang "The Show Must Go On," one of Queen's signature songs as Freddie Mercury's health deteriorated. She did fine, although there's no getting around the fact that she's a teenager singing a style of music that's way outside her comfort zone. She'll be happier when the show goes back to featuring actual pop music themes instead of '70s rock.
Grade: B+
The judges: "I found it all a little weird." - Simon Cowell.
Stay or go: Bennett was in the bottom three last week, and may wind up there again. But she's unlikely to be the one voted off.

------------------------------------------------------

In my opinion, if Freddie's remains werent cremated and spread at Lake Geneva, Switzerland, I am sure you could clearly hear his body turning over in a grave!

Bye, bye, Bucky, bye, bye....

I guess it had to happen, now it's Ace's turn. Please people, get rid of Ace!

Some of those bios last night had me tearing up!

I was glad to see Bucky go, but I'll kind of miss Ace when it's his time. I thought I was over his pretty boy looks, but I really enjoyed looking at his arms last night. I do think he has overstayed his welcome though. And Paris can leave just anytime as well. I'm nauseated every time she says "thank you" in that baby girl voice.

Oh and how classless was Pickler going on and on about the "snot rag"? Oy!

I was sad to see Bucky go actually. I think he's a genuinely nice guy and has talent, not quite his time to go I didn't think, but like he said, someone's got to go. I'm like you, I like looking at Ace, but he's just not up to par. with respect to Paris, I don't like her speaking voice (not that she can really help that), but I find it endearing that she takes the judges' criticisms and just says thank you. I also think she's mucho talented.

and something I noticed about Pickler...that's how she's staying in...by drawing so much attention to her personality (fake or not). she's so good at that, she'd give Samantha Jones a run for her PR money.

I'm thinking now that I dont want Paris to win because doesnt her grrandmother have great music business connections? And with Paris getting as far as she has, I have no doubt that she'll be able to get some sort of recording contract. There are others that I'm sure need to win more.

Eh. I would have rather seen ACE go after that sickening verion of "We Will Rock You," but it's not like Bucky had a real chance to win, IMO.

I'm thinking Kellie & Chris will definitely be in the top 3 or 4, not sure about the others. Katharine is great, but not consistent. Elliot has a gorgeous voice, but I've heard many people don't like it. Taylor & Paris are always possibilities too. Ace doesn't have a chance in hell.

If it does come down to kellie & Chris, I think Chris would win. They already have Carrie Underwood for their country blondie. I mean, I hate to think that it's fixed, but you have to wonder. Winners were (excuse my generalizations) white pop/rock girl, then black R&B guy, then black R&B chick, then white country gal. We still don't have white rocker dude. :p Idol is all about marketing, and the more markets they cover, the better.

My thoughts..

Chris - I usually am not a big fan of his.. and probably will never be.. he just isn't my cup of tea! However.. tonight I have to say he did a fantastic job..

Paris - AMAZING! I wanted to light up a cig., pour some wine, put on a tux and head out for a night of fun at the Coconut Grove in 1958.. just great.

Taylor - Started out a tad boring but he really nailed it at the end.. this guy has soul!

Elliot - I have to say I wasn't that impressed with his performance.. he did OK.. the vocals were there but it just came off as a tad boring.

Kellie - I LOVE LOVE LOVE "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered" but boy oh boy did she screw this one up.. But I do have to give her credit for trying AND for KNOWING that she messed it up.

Ace - He sang one of my favorite songs.. EVER! "That's All" was perfected by my fav. singer Judy Garland in 1963.. so IMO anyone else's version will not even come close.. and his really just didn't "go there" for me.. That said, he did do much better than he has in a long while.. He is still fake and plastic to me.

Katharine - Glad they saved my girl for the end.. PERFECTION! She did this song justice.. and just was leaps and bounds better than everyone else tonight! And might I add.. this girl has a flawless complexion.. and I have High Definition TV.. so I see it all! ;)

..overall this was the best night so far.. and this type of music is one of my favs. so I could be a bit biased! :)

I thought she really was that bad. She went completely out of key and basically wrecked the song. But I thought that <i>before</i> she acknowledged her badness. I do give her credit for admitting how horrible she was. Anyway, she's in no danger of being voted off, in spite of the fact that hers was the worst performance of the night.

I agree with your bottom three prediction, but I don't think Kellie will go though she most definitely deserves it. Maybe she is now courting the votefortheworst.com vote to ensure that she stays around to stink up the joint for as long as possible!

Ace looked great in his suit (from the neck down, that is), but his hair looked so slimey. Ew.

I tried to vote for Katharine, Paris and Taylor (though his performance was totally dull until it got really good at the end). I could only get through once for Katharine before I gave up. I couldn't get through for Paris or Taylor at all.

I'm with Tracye. I think next week's theme has the potential to be as good as the "standards" theme was this week, or it could be an utter nightmare.

The thing that is interesting about this season is the lack of a frontrunner. Last season, it was fairly obvious from week two onward that Carrie was going to win. Just like it was obvious that Clay and Rueben were going to be the final two from their season.

I do think they are really pushing Katharine. I just don't like her. :sorry: I find her attempts at humility quite unconvincing.

Interesting post Krista. And I agree with the frontrunner thing. I can see many potential frontrunners: Chris, Kellie, Katharine, and Paris mainly. I'm starting to think though, that Taylor actually has a shot too! He's never been in the bottom three, or at least not lately and everyone seems to LOOOOVE him. I do think Elliott's days are numbered, but not because he can't sing--he totally can! I just think that his looks and lack of stage presence are going to hurt him in the end.

I used to like Katherine a lot more than I do now. I think she has a technically proficient voice, it's beautiful, but she has no personality and she tends to sing REALLY boring songs. She can't rock and that bothers me. I ultimately go for the rock-tinged voices and look for interesting and/or unique qualities in the contestants and Katharine ain't it. I think Chris is interesting and a great rock singer, so I'm kind of leaning in his direction. He just needs to stop channeling Creed and Live and get his own kind of vibe going. I think he's trying to do that though, his "standards" performance was a step in a new direction.

The two who are most vulnerable to me are Paris and Elliott. It just doesn't appear as though they are connecting with the audience. Taylor has a pretty good following it seems, so he might be a dark horse. Ultimately, I think it will be between Chris, Katharine, and Kellie.

I agree that Paris is very vulnerable at this point. She has consistently been in the bottom three, even when she does well. But who the hell knows? The bottom three was not at all what I would have expected. Maybe it IS fixed. Or maybe people are voting to save people they liked who were in the bottom three the previous week, and it keeps changing up because people then don't vote for the ones they think are safe (like Chris).

That's exactly what I was thinking. I personally think Chris will win, so I tried to vote for Elliott and Taylor. Not because I want them to win but because I want them to stay on the show longer. Gah, I guess at this point you REALLY need to vote for who you want to win and not the underdogs!

My problem is that I don't KNOW who I really want to win. This year I have no clear favorite. I like Katharine, Paris, Chris and Taylor all for different reasons. Even Elliot isn't so bad. But there are reasons to DISlike each of them too. Because I don't have a favorite, I've been voting based on how I liked their performance that week, and on who I think is the underdog and I want to stay around longer. Katharine - Fantastic. (the judges are smoking crack! well.. at least Paula.. And I might add that Katharine was VERY Mariah tonight.. from the hair to the clothes.. to even the boobs..)

Elliot - Amazing.

Kellie - The worst. (She is NOT Leann Rimes, so she needs to get off it)

Paris - Oversang. (No one can sing this song like Barbra.. anyone else who tries.. it just comes off as boring)

Taylor - Boring.

Chris - Good. (I suppose I'm just not a huge fan of male vocalists)

My thougts...
I agree with what you say with 2 exceptions:

1 - Katharine was a little too flat for my taste
2 - Paris did oversing it a bit (and I see her trying to copy Gladys Knight's live version a little too) but girl worked it out (and of course I agree with your Barbra comment)

Kelli was awful.

Paris did oversing quite a bit, and watta farty song.

Elliot sounded ok but i can't get past the looks.

Taylor started off bad but i thought by the end he loosened up and got better; plus he looked really hot.

Kat sounded okay, she's no whitney houston though.

I liked Chris the best; he did a beautiful job.

Who is left now?

Chris (bald rocker guy), Taylor (gray haired guy), Elliot (short guy with bad teeth), Kellie (blond ditz), Katharine (tall gorgeous brunette), Paris (short girl with squeaky speaking voice but mature singing voice.)

I thought Chris & Elliot were best, Kellie was worst.

I called for everyone 30 minutes after the show ended on the East coast. I immediately was able to get through on BOTH of Kellie's lines, as well as one of Kat's. I actually voted at about 10pm, and was able to get votes in for Chris and Elliot, but it was busy much of the time & I had to keep trying back.

Yup

Paris DID oversing, Katherine WAS flat, and the beginning of Taylor's song sounded like he was talking into the mic. He did good at the end, but the beginning was painful.

Chris was fabulous! I hope he wins the whole thing.

My Amrerican Idol Two Cents:

BORING!

Katherine- I thought the judges were really harsh on her. I think she sounded and looked great. Just because she's not as good as Wetney doesn't mean she shouldn't sing one of her songs. And my husband was so happy that she finally showed a little boobage.

Elliott- Fabulous. I do love him. He has SUCH a great voice.

Kellie- Suck. Seriously, the girl cannot sing. And my God, her hair! She simply does not deserve to be in the competition anymore- she is not holding up here when it's getting serious.

Paris- I don't love her to begin with, but I thought she totally sucked with her oversinging (agreed with the judges on this one). And to top it off, she f*cked up the lyrics. Just a little, but she f*cked up my favorite line of the song. She sang, "What's <b>so</b> painful to remember..." instead of "What's <b>too</b> painful...". Bad, very bad. I don't like the way she pronounces certain words when she sings, either. I almost dislike her enough to wish she'd go home before Kellie.

Taylor- I was concerned at first, but I swear I think he pulled it together at the middle/end. I LOVE his voice. I don't think he's totally perfected it, but it's very raw and real to me, and I love it.

Chris- So-so. Not a Bryan Adams fan though, and didn't like the song. Maybe he was better than I thought.

I thought the producer guy was great with the singers. He was harsh, but damn- isn't the music industry a harsh place? He was the first guest who didn't GUSH all over the contestants and I actually liked that.

Or how about when she stood up and started half rapping to, I can't remember who it was, (Chris?) something about we love you/I love you/ well all love you/we.love.you, or something like that? Damn! I can't remember exactly what she said, but she was standing up and gesticulating wildly like Anthony Kiedis from The Red Hot Chili Peppers . if you've ever heard Gladys Knight sing this song you know why she changed the words...as per my previous post, I think she went a little overboard trying to mimic GK. I like Paris...I love her phrasing and I thought she did a good job, but I'm never impressed with that kind of thing and she did oversing. What was up with the last note. I thought she was hacking up a hairball.

other items of note:

am I the only one who noticed Katharine's lowcut panties were a tad too tight...you could see where they cut into her hips.

am I the only one who heard Chris straining during the "tenderness" and "treat her right" parts? he was the best by far last night to me, but he wasn't exactly flawless.

Seacrest: I'm not speaking to Abdul
But 'Idol' judge Paula says there's 'nothing but love'

Wednesday, April 26, 2006; Posted: 8:44 a.m. EDT (12:44 GMT)

NEW YORK (AP) -- "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest says he and judge Paula Abdul aren't speaking to one another, but Abdul calls reports of a feud "ridiculous."

Seacrest told People magazine last week that his relationship with Abdul was "awkward."

"I don't know what the deal is. It's very awkward," he was quoted as saying.

The 31-year-old Seacrest, who openly spars with "Idol" judge Simon Cowell, told the magazine: "Simon and I go back and forth with each other, but it's in a different way."

Asked if he was speaking to Abdul, Seacrest answered, "No."

Seacrest also said he hadn't talked to Abdul about the apparent rift.

"You know, I walked past her dressing room the other day and there was a group of people gathered in front of the door, so I can't even talk to her," he said.

Abdul dismissed reports of off-camera animosity in a statement Tuesday to The Associated Press.

"Reports of a feud are ridiculous," the 43-year-old former pop star said. "We are one funny dysfunctional family. There's nothing but love."

Any tension between the "Idol" host and judge might have come after their separate appearances on "The Tonight Show."

In Seacrest's March 30 guest spot, host Jay Leno joked about Abdul's "loopy" behavior in an "Idol" episode, to which Seacrest replied: "Well, have you listened to her album?"

And when Leno playfully asked whether Abdul had been drinking alcohol, Seacrest said, "Hey look, I don't look in their cups to see what's sitting before them on that table. But at times I feel like we have reeled her in."

During her April 10 appearance, Abdul shot down rumors that Seacrest was dating "Desperate Housewives" star Teri Hatcher.

"He only kisses the mirror," Abdul said. "And honestly, do you think Teri Hatcher is that desperate of a housewife?"

Dude, that was off the hook! I was like, "Oh, there's something really wrong with her". Elliott was good but please Paula [Abdul]. One word to him, veneers. Otherwise I think he is cute. They fixed his hair so his ears no longer appear elfin.

Katharine and the boobage  I would kill for a rack like that. She's flawless. Oh yeah, the song wasn't bad, I missed her whole performance though. I thought it was classy too that Simon apologized to her. Hmm, "Simon", "classy", and "apologize" in the same sentence? I do believe the world is about to end!

Chris did a good job but that song is so lame I am surprised they didn't call him out on that. Its just not a challenging song for someone in the top 6.

Taylor was off but I still enjoyed him and am psyched he's still in it. He'd better get signed and I'll be buying his album.

Next week they'll each sing 2 songs - one tune on the charts right now, and one from the year they were born. Should be a good show - the years range from about 1977 (Taylor) to 1989 (Paris).

interesting side note.. Mariah re-recorded her vocals for that song and made it into a duet with UK boy band Westlife (which would become a #1 in the UK).. Katherine butchered Against All Odds, I was seriously cringing it was so bad. Her second song was okay, but all in all I thought her two performances were pretty bland and boring.

Elliott was the best, by far. This was actually the first week when I truly, truly enjoyed him. I didn't enjoy either of Katharine's songs. I just don't particularly care for this girl. Her stage presence leaves a lot to be desired, as she is pretty robotic up there, IMO. Even on her "All Shook Up/Hound Dog" medley, her dancing seemed forced.

I hate to say it, but I think Chris is in trouble. I thought both of his songs were good, but were missing the "wow" factor.

I love the sound of his voice, even though I really don't enjoy watching him dance like some people do. I love Elliott personally, but I just don't know that he has what it takes to stay. I think Chris is so talented, but there is something about him (cannot put my finger on it) that I just don't like. Which is odd because he is from where I live (about 30 minutes away) so I should totally be rooting for him. Is he a tad arrogant? Contrived? Someone help me if you know what I'm talking about. I too am a little worried for Chris tonight. His songs weren't anything special last night. I do hope Kat goes home. She's pretty and she can sing but I don't like her style of singing. She seems to do too much a lot of the time when I think she could keep things more simple.

Elliot was the best. Fantastic vocals. Those songs aren't easy to sing either.

Chris was dull on Suspicious Minds (which upset me, it's probably my favorite Elvis tune) but I thought he rocked on A Little Less Conversation.

Taylor - I thought he'd do better, to be honest. Jailhouse Rock was OK, but a bit too over the top for me. He sang the hell out of In The Ghetto, but the musical arrangement blew so badly I was distracted. Hated it. Uou don't mess with a classic like In The Ghetto unless you're Eric Cartman, M'kay?

Kat - anyone else think that one of her dance movesduring All Shook Up/Hound Dog seemed to mimic her scratching her crotch? No lie, a bunch of people I've talked to noticed it too. Gross. The first two lines of Can't Help Falling In Love were spot on, then it went straight to hell after that. Jesus, girl, stop with the vocal gymnastics, you fall on your face every time. Screeeeeeeeeeech!

I think Kat should go, but I am worried about Chris. Kat may automatically get some of Paris's votes since she's the only chick left. I couldn't get any votes in last night so I gave up.

Where was the horn section on Suspicious Minds? The backing vocals didn't sound right either.

Elvis night:

Elliott was the best, by far. This was actually the first week when I truly, truly enjoyed him. I didn't enjoy either of Katharine's songs. I just don't particularly care for this girl. Her stage presence leaves a lot to be desired, as she is pretty robotic up there, IMO. Even on her "All Shook Up/Hound Dog" medley, her dancing seemed forced.

I hate to say it, but I think Chris is in trouble. I thought both of his songs were good, but were missing the "wow" factor.

Taylor was ok.
precisely, my dear.

I totally agree about the arrangement on In The Ghetto. I think they should have stuck more closely with the original and it would have been an even better song. The vocals were great, but the arrangement? Not so much.

Oh, Brandon. Poor, dear, sweet Brandon. :distress:

I'm teasing you of course, but did you honestly not notice how pitchy she gets when she tries to do runs with her voice? Like she can't find her way back to the right note? Plus last week, she lost her spot in the timing of the song, and this week she forgot the lyrics. Blech.

I am soooo excited to see Lisa Marie, she's one cool ass bitch. Now Priscilla - I know you love her, sweetie, but she's resembling a corpse more & more each day. :sorry: A stunningly beautiful woman who altered her face with surgery to the point that she's unrecognizable. So sad.

No you're not the only one. Assclown indeed. "Soul PaDroll" I too like his voice at times, when it's not being covered up by pointless "yeah!"s and "hey!"s or distorted when he does that stupid scoleosis dance.

And Kat's dancing is manic because she really wants to do stripper moves a la Slutney and Xtina, so she goes as far as she can on a G-rated show then gets self-conscious and backs off. But I'd still rather watch her than listen to her. She's not even pitchy anymore, just screechy.

So for me that leaves Elliott, whose voice (& Stevie vibrato) gives me chill bumps every single time he sings, but who has little stage presence & doesn't really put on a show. Or Chris, who's all show in my book. It should be an interesting few weeks.

Did you notice how he shouted "Soul Patrol" 3 times in a row at one point? It was like he was a wind-up toy who didn't know what to do with himself. Yikes. I think he's probably a really great guy and on a personal level I like him, but he just goes overboard sometimes with the schtick. If he'd just tone it down some it wouldn't be so bad. That said, I don't think he's got the best voice in this competition so I don't think he should be in the final much less win the whole thing. I like his voice, I like the quality of it, but it's just not elastic enough, he can't really go beyond a certain register without straining or looking uncomfortable.

Speaking of Taylor's floor fall... Did anyone else notice that his shirt was open a bit at the bottom and his gut was poking out? It was on camera for half a second, and they quickly panned up and zoomed in on his & Ryan's faces.

And is the microphone kick/miss on YouTube or anywhere? Posterity...

I see what everyone is saying about Elliott, but he is NOT ugly. Just normal looking. And compared to some other contestants from years past, he's Brad Pitt. (Scott Savol anyone? Ruben Studdard?) He has the best voice, and it's a *singing* competition, Paula! (Abdul, not sckin... ) Besides, just remember his average joe looks won't bother you when you're grooving to his CD ... or better yet getting some while it plays in the background.

I don't know.. I mean a lot of people pick up the phone to vote when they think one of their favs. is in trouble and might not get enough votes for the week. Everything seemed to be against Kat last night.. so I decided to vote as much as I could.. and I did. And as you can see.. a lot of her other fans who maybe don't vote every week decided to do the same last night.

The thing with Chris is.. most people know he was such a front runner to win this thing.. so maybe many didn't even bother voting for him because they thought he would make it through anyway.
