Just looking for information on this lady, of www.designsbybear.com or formerly www.brandisdream.com.
I'm not looking to rock the boat or do damage to anyone's reputation, I'm just curious to know has anyone ordered items from this website, as I've ordered things and have been having some trouble chasing them down.
Reputable? Reliable?
Thanks. :wavey:

I've heard that it isn't the easiest transaction when ordering from Bear (is that her real name?), but that the product is good. I guess it depends on how much in a rush you are to have the product and if you're a patient person. I do know that everything seems to be handmade and I can understand that taking a while sometimes...and I'm sure she gets overloaded at times.
I will say, and this is just my opinion, that after looking over her website I decided not to order anything from her. I got a very weird vibe from reading her FAQ's and got the sense that it would end up being more trouble than it's worth. The idea is to convince people to order from you, not scare them off. ;)

I ordered some of the "rumours outtake photos" from her on e-bay. The auction ended in december, I got them about a week ago. the end of FEB:eek: In the item description, they were described as "not exacally crystal clear" THAT WAS MORE THAN AN UNDERSTATEMENT TO SAY THE LEAST.:distress: I was pretty frustrated, cause I really was excited to see thiese. There was one "not so crystal clear" one of stevie that looked like it would be really beautiful.

Hey guys - long time no talk! I ordered a Rhiannon chiffon skirt and a velvet and lace top for the Vegas shows last year. I ordered way too close to the date my plane left, but she got the outfit here on time and it is perfectly fine with the exception of the elastic in the waistband being twisted. It looks great and she did a wonderful rush job.
Sorry to hear others have had troubles.

I had to rewrite this whole post because of memory failures, damn. For the Enchanted tour I got a great burn out lace skirt and shawl. The shawl is a bit too narrow so it doesn't exactly fall right but it is really pretty. She did a good job on both. Then for SYW I ordered a black chiffon Rhiannon dress which I got quickly. I did note that I am petite on top so the waistline should probably be higher than average but I got a regular size which is fine. I just would have liked it to be more fitted. I've been lucky though it seems. I wouldn't order again.

if it were me, I'd email her every day and be stern - no more mr. nice guy
or track down a phone number. pester her any way you can til you get some response as to when to expect either your items or your money back. if that doesn't work, I'd contact Sec. of State or Better Business Bureau and see what they suggest.
also, see if she's posted anything on eBay and warn all the buyers and email her and tell her you're warning them.

Bear does beautiful work. After it was featured on VH1 FanClub, however, I think she was flooded with orders and just couldn't keep up with the incredible demand. At the time, I believe it was just her making everything from scratch. Not sure how she's doing now, as I've lost touch. But she could have made a great living had she been more organized and hired a small staff to handle some of the administrative duties, such as processing orders and fielding customer questions.

Let us know how you get on. It's not nice to hear of fans ripping other fans off. If she is unable to fulfil people's orders within a reasonable amount of time she should return the money, simple as that.

Hi again...
Got my package as promised on Monday. Hurray! :woohoo: As for its contents...
"The Dance" blouse in black velvet and chiffon sleeves -- lovely, no problems.
I also ordered a shawl cusom-made in imitation of the Gold Dust Woman shawl from The Dance and beyond -- what I received was a much smaller shawl than what I ordered, and the colour represented on the site was sort of misleading. [What I received was much paler, more akin to the "Say Goodbye" shawl, you know the one, or US Festival '83 than the GDW.] It's still a lovely piece though -- but not exactly what I paid for, you know?
I'll post photos if and when I can.

Did any of you guys ... or girls (or maybe guys after all) ... ever buy a pair of boots from Pasquale Di Fabrizio, the little Italian man who made Stevie's boots for a long time?
I see a lot of Stevie acts out there & they look good except for their boots. The boots always look like go-go boots these ladies might find at a sex shop on Hollywood Boulevard. They aren't Stevie's custom platforms with the suede. Stevie's boots look very sharp & sort of low-key, compared with the platform boots people buy for themselves, which always look kinky & sort of S&M.

Never bought anything from DiFabrizio, unfortunately. He must have quit by the time I came along. I bought two pair from Maya in Hollywood at around $300 pr. Take a look at the picture in the Enchanted box set where she's wearing the red skirt and beige boots... that's what Maya makes. I wanted Bella Donna era boots but Maya won't make them because they say most people don't want to walk around on something that tall. (HUH?... I guess unless you're talking fetish boots which is different.)
I agree, the fetish boots do cheapen a look-alike outfit. I would opt for the Maya boots, even though they seem to go too far the other direction. They're almost so low of platform that you miss the whole idea of the Stevie look. Hhmm... maybe if I offered them enough $$$$....

I ordered from Bear a year ago this coming Friday....she didn't send me the order by the date I needed it...kept delaying and delaying when I asked her about it...the last time I heard from her (or rather her roommate, who claimed that Bear was sick and in the hospital) was December. She's been ignoring my emails ever since. I know she's back to work - she updated her website in late March and again in April.
I've had to take the rather drastic step of reporting her to an online fraud agency here in Canada and to the Better Business Bureau in the States. I'm in the process of trying locate her myself...no real luck yet.
If she is, as it's been suggested here, swamped with orders, she shouldn't be taking on new ones until she's finished the old ones. I know for a fact that she has been taking on new orders in the last couple of months.
I really wish I'd seen this site before I ordered. I could have saved myself and my family a lot of aggravation.

I think this is such bull****- I would never order anything from these characters. What I'm hearing on this thread is either:
1. never got the stuff
2. got the stuff, but only after painful dealings and waiting and emails
3. got the stuff but it wasn't the right size, or was smaller than promised
4. got the stuff but it was shabbily made
5. the occasional 'bluebird of happiness' who says they've never had a problem with ordering from her (forgetting to mention they are personal friends of her too..)
Friends, you can do better. Why take the risk? Find yourself an experienced dressmaker, and pay the extra money for having him create something that will be exactly the way you want. This thread just pisses me off, honestly.
Because I've been there, honey. I ordered the 'Book Of Miracles' from some fellow 'fan' in 1989- and the bitch never sent it. Only after 'flaming' her on the old AOL board did she finally send the book- 10 years later. I waited 10 years for a xeroxed piece of **** full of OSOTM era grainy pics.

I didn't know Barb before I ordered from her and I thought she did a wonderful job. My husband ordered a crescent moon for me for Christmas (after I had bookmarked her site for him several months before). I guess that's possible. sorry you didn't have a good experience. I know how frustrating it can be. I have been there before with other "fans" - :(
the sad thing is, there are so many people who want good quality stuff and so few people that are willing and able to do provide those items. if I had more free time and were a better seamstress, I'd love to do it.

You called her? Do you still have her number? I phoned PayPal and they had a "Customer Service Number" for her (they refused to give me her address)...turned out to be an unlisted cell phone based out of Atlanta. I called the number and got a recording..."We're sorry, this phone does not accept incoming calls." I phoned PayPal back and told them that the number didn't work...they said they'd take care of it but failed to elaborate. I haven't heard anything from them since.
I also tried the Secretary of State Consumer Division, but because she's not an incorporated company they couldn't help me.
Does anyone know the name of Bear's roommate? There's no information on Bear out there but there might be something for her roommate...

Really? Maybe it's because she knows you. She promised me "special goodies" to make up for sending out my order late and it turned out to be a bunch of pixelated photos that others had posted on the Seven Wonders site that she printed off. I wasn't particularly impressed but maybe others have had better dealings with her.
Thank you so much, Jannie!
I enjoy making each package very special, for
wonderful people like you :)
Barbara
I didn't know Barb before I ordered from her and I thought she did a wonderful job. My husband ordered a crescent moon for me for Christmas (after I had bookmarked her site for him several months before). She sent me my order which came in a really cool little pouch and some pictures (which I didn't really think look pixelated)- all of which were unexpected.

Please let me know what you ordered that was not
to your liking, I do not have ANY record of orders from you
in my store?
Please let me know.
I know that you don't like me, personally, and to my knowledge
you have NEVER ordered anything from my store, so I would appreciate
you to not say things that are not true about my business.
Thank you. Barbara
i never dealt w/ your store, because of my dealings w/ you on ebay under the different names you have used, which were mytimelesstreasures & stevienickstreasures~ & i speak the truth about those dealings along w/ the stevie nicks "picture/photoclub" you used to have online~
& for the record i NEVER said anything about liking you or not, i just don't like being ripped off is all~
I changed my user ID on eBay from StevieNicksTreasures, to MyTimelessTreasures, as I was not only selling "Stevie Nicks" items, and now it is Enchanted Mirror, as that is my online (non eBay) store. I never signed up another account, it was always me, under the same account, and changing your USER ID on eBay is always allowed, and people can always find you, if they look up your previous name, and then they are shown your new one.
I am never hard to reach, either by eMail or phone, all that info is available in my stores, and I return calls or eMails the same day!
So, what is it exactly that you say you ordered from me on Ebay and never received? Or from the photo club, that you never received?
I am more than happy to send you something that is owed, according to my records, I do not have anything owed to you, Jill, on eBay or otherwise.
I realize you do not care for me, and that is fine, but I do not wish false statements posted about my business dealings. I have over 4,000 POSITIVE feedbacks on eBay, and that speaks for itself.
I am more than happy to send you something that I may have overlooked that is owed to you, but, as I said, according to my business records for the past 10 years, I do not have you on file as not receiving anything paid for, so please correct me if that is wrong, and I will fix that ASAP for you.

Really?? If I remember correctly my Dad paid through a credit card through Paypal...we called them...filed a claim through them...we also filed with an internet fraud website (can't rembmer what it was, my dad still has the papers)...Before I even ordered from her I emailed her asking questions about the outfits...but as soon as she got the money I never heard anything back....this is pissing me off just typing right now ARGH!!!
Hi Jill,
No, I am sorry, I honestly don't know what "3-d photo repro" you mean, I have dealt with hundreds of people over the past ten years, and I cannot remember each transaction individually. I don't even know who YOU are? Just by "Jill"? I looked up records of payments by anyone named Jill, and do not have anything that has not been completed, so I am sorry, I am lost.
Everyone from the Photo Club received 12 months of photos, and if you were signed up by someone else, and not happy with your photos, I am so sorry about that.
I do not own an Epson printer.
I never received ANY complaints from ANY member of the years ago photo club.
In any case, I do not wish to argue with you, and I will take this time to apologize to you, if you were unhappy with any transaction with me, that was never my intent. I wish you all the best.
Bright blessings, Barbara

I tried going to PayPal earlier this year. They said they had a 60-day limit on filing claims (or some other b.s. to that effect). I tried the credit card company too - their limit was 30 days and the woman I spoke to wondered aloud why I even bothered calling them at that point (while she may have had a point, I still think that that was just a tad rude). The impression they both left me with was that because I'd taken so long to start complaining, I was on my own. Same goes for when I talked to the local police.
My family filed a report with an online fraud company called RECOL back in...January, I think it was. Don't know what good that'll do - they're supposed to be a joint venture of the national and regional police forces. I called the local police information line to update the file a few weeks later and they said they had nothing to do with RECOL. I couldn't even get back into the original online complaint to amend it and there wasn't a help number in sight.
Ah well. I'll sort this out somehow.

48 hours have come and gone with no reply from her. I'd be willing to bet money that she's just blocking my emails. So it's back to spinning my wheels....I gotta talk to someone in the legal field, see what it would cost me to sue her and what my chances of success would be - assuming that she even bothered to answer the summons. Mind you I think if she doesn't respond within 30 days I get a default judgement or something like that. I forget what the law is in Georgia. I do know if that if I want to sue her I have to do it in her home county...

Accepting orders, accepting payment, not delivering the orders, is not the way to run a business. I suggest to all of you who want Stevie style clothing to do what pete9000 says, visit a local dress maker. You may pay more but the transaction would probably be less frustrating. I understand all of the frustration some of you have/had felt over being given the run around.
Another option would be to just look in commercial stores. Whether it be Lord & Taylor, Macy's or Target. I have noticed plenty of clothing items in some stores that are very Stevie like. Also browse thrift shops, garage sales and Indian dress shops. I have purchased a couple of things very Stevie'ish for friends over the years through these types of establishments. Legwork and or car travel may be necessary but you will find what you are looking for with a lot less frustration.
I hope Bears roomie did not go postal on Bear for spinning around the house in all honesty here, pretty bad looking knock offs.

Send her a demand letter via certified mail, return receipt requested. Give her a specific deadline to refund your $, mention the Deceptive Trade & Practices Act.

You could file a claim in small claims court for about $50, and ask for her to pay your court costs as well.

I definately also recommend you do what Livia suggested. Just type up a very stern, well constructed letter, citing the DT&PA. Send it certified. It might concern her if she thinks you are serious about filing a suit against her. Some people do not care about having judgements against them but Bear might.
I would also report her to ebay if you see her selling her clothes on there again. I don't know if they will do anything but if you cause enough problems for Bear, you might end up getting a response from her. Ebay doesn't like deadbeat sellers, so if she has new auctions listed, let them know that she ripped you off. You could also contact anyone bidding on her items and let them know she ripped you off. (if you can see her bidders, ebay may have changed that recently) Just do not let it go...be a thorn in her side and make things as difficult for her as you can.

I'm working on that letter. I'm trying to get my point across without using profanity (which is a bit difficult but her having documents laced with swear words will certainly not help my case if I do end up taking her to court). I did mention the DTPA - thank you for that, I believe it will be very helpful.
I have every intention of being a rather large thorn in her side...in my family stubbornness is a dominant trait. If there's something wrong we do something about it and we don't stop 'til it's done, no matter how long it takes.
The Better Business Bureau says they've sent her a copy of my complaint and she has until June 22 to respond to it. I wonder what happens if she doesn't bother...

I doubt the BBB will do anything if she doesn't reply, but at least they will have another complaint against Bear.
I would avoid profanity in the letter...you want to sound professional and well versed in the law. (even if you are not really, lol) You may even be able to file a complaint by yourself, without having to pay a lawyer. You would have to pay the filing fee but it would probably be worth it. I doubt she will even respond to the Complaint, so you will probably end up with a Judgment for what you are owed. Collecting on that Judgement is another story though. :distress:

I cut out the profanity altogether....still working on the professionalism. I never realized how much profanity and slang are a pair of verbal crutches until I started this letter. My English teacher would smack me with a copy of "The Transitive Vampire" if he knew how degraded my English skills have become.
I checked the BBB website, looking to see if anyone else had complained about Bear. From what I've read I'm the first, which isn't surprising...they won't process a complaint without a company address (they prefer to serve complaints through the mail).
Collecting on that judgement...there's always a collection agency (even though they take a percentage) or standing outside her house with a megaphone until she has the cops haul me away....just kidding. I think there are legal alternatives - garnishing her wages, having a lien placed on her accounts, things like that. I don't know if they'd do that in magistrate (small claims) court or not...

As far as I know (and I do have some personal experience with this :( ), there is no way to really collect on a judgment. However, once a person has a judgment in their history it wrecks their credit. So, at least you have the knowledge that until she pays it, her credit is totally shot.
Also, I'm no expert writer, but I am in graduate school so I have spent a lot of time writing professionally lately. If you want me to look over your letter I'd be happy to. Just send me a PM.

According to the BBB website if Bear doesn't respond in the two weeks allotted they'll try to contact her again. If she hasn't responded two weeks from that time they'll close the complaint and take no further action. :distress: It would still remain on file, though - anyone who wanted to check her out would know that I've had problems with her and that she failed to respond to the complaint.
To me this makes it sound like all I've done in digging up information and relaying it to the proper authorities amounts to my running down a blind alley and hollering "fish". What more have I got to lose if I take her to small claims court? A couple of weeks away from work (probably more like a month), airfare or gasoline, accommodations and meals, transportation within Decatur, filing fees....expenses, expenses. :distress:
The only thing keeping this going right now is that I absolutely refuse to file this aggravating and seemingly interminable chapter in the "Sometimes Life Sucks" folder and forget it.

You are right, they won't attach her wages for a Judgement like this. They only do that for child support or in some cases, a tax lien. Judgements, in cases like this, are pretty much useless unless the person cares about their credit, which I don't know if Bear does. It is still worth doing though as she may pay you in order to avoid hassle of Court. My prediction is she will ignore the Complaint and the Judge will rule in your favor, ordering a Judgement for what she owes you, plus court costs. From there, I think Bear will just ignore the Order. Sad, but I bet that is the way she handles it. She just doesn't seem to care about working something out.
If you attempt to file a Complaint on your own, I would be more than glad to help you out if I can. I am NOT a lawyer, but I have worked for one for pretty much my entire adult life. :o I am not sure how much the filing fee will be but it is something to consider..if it is too much, it just might not be worth it. :sorry:

I am not sure how much the filing fee will be but it is something to consider..if it is too much, it just might not be worth it. :sorry:
I don't think the filing fee is more than $50-60 US. If the loonie remains as high as it is right now, that won't be a problem. It's the rest (time away from work, transportation, accommodation, etc.) that's going to kill me.
The alternative is simply to give up and let her get away with it, but I can't do that...I honestly believe she'll put others through this. Not like I can stop her doing it, but at least if I take her to court and win there'll be enough legal documentation to prove a history of fraud if someone else tries to get their due from her through the legal system.
To date my complaint has not been posted on the BBB website as I thought it would have been...I went to the website to check it out and there was nothing there under the name Designs By Bear. I suppose they're waiting for her to respond or they plan to close the file before they post it.

Hi Caitlin!
Thank you very much :)
I do love making beautiful things for people, and I hope everyone
that ordered from Bear does get their purchases.
I popped over here for a hello, since the 7W is no more for me :)
Too strange how all that happened...

if she doesn't have time to for fill the orders, or just DO the orders,

I did something similar when she wouldn't answer my emails -- sent a query from a different email address, to see if she would answer it, which she did within hours. I thought it was really lousy -- let us know how you get on with that!

I actually tried that at first from a separate address but she never bothered to reply. I had to get a friend who uses a separate email provider to write her before I had any response. The email asking her about her tattered reputation was sent a few minutes ago. I'll check back before I go to work, see if she bothered to reply.

2 months later and I finally got a refund from my own nightmare with a deadbeat Ebayer - you wouldn't believe the runaround talk and bs this beeyotch put me through. Some of our emails are pretty amusing, actually. I quoted Judge Judy.
I still don't know if Visa was responsible for getting my refund, or if the Ebay beeyotch finally caved under my relentless pressure - and just didn't bother to give me the satisfaction of telling me that she was reversing the credit card charge. All I know is I logged into my credit card account last night, just to check when my next payment is due, and I saw the charge reversal, dated 7/1/07. I still think I'll report her to the BBB.

I got a reply to that email my friend sent her. Bear admitted to having "problems" with her business for an undisclosed period of time but claims she's now up and running and all is business as usual. Certainly can't be bothered to catch up with the backlog, can she?
Listen to this (direct from her reply):
"I've been in business for 11 years and have had probably a few thousand
satisfied customers/orders. It's so easy for a few people to complain, and
rightfully so, when things did go wrong for me, and then what you don't
hear are all the people that are thrilled with my work, or that posted a
complaint and then their order was completed and sent and they ended up
satisfied, but never posted the conclusion. After I was featured on VH-1 I
had people post stories online about meeting me at concerts etc., that were completely false, when I had never even met them. I stopped going to forums because it was just upsetting to me and I don't need that kind of
thing in my life."

In fairness there probably is a little bit of truth in that but it's not the time to make excuses when "things are going wrong". In this discussion we _have_ had plenty of stories from people who were delighted with their orders, and if you are a solid seller you'll earn a solid reputation from your clients, whatever about random people posting stories about you.

Do it. I'd be willing to bet money she's done this to others and will continue to do it in the future. It's amazing how easy it is to get away with something like that...just stall and talk circles around the client until they give up.
Congratulations on your hard-won victory!

If this were a trial, her thousands of satisfied customers could be given as a reason for mitigation at the sentencing hearing - but they would not change the fact that a crime had taken place. The facts of the case are these: she accepted money from me in exchange for goods. She never sent me the goods. She won't send the money back - won't even talk to me anymore.
It takes a lifetime to build a solid reputation. And you're right, a few random stories aren't usually enough to destroy it. But what about the stories that are true? Do a large number of good reviews automatically negate a smaller number of bad ones?
As I see it, she brought this on herself. If she wasn't willing or able to do the work she shouldn't have accepted the order in the first place. If she found herself unwilling or unable to do the work after accepting the money she should have refunded it. She chose to stiff me, give me the runaround and then ignore me altogether. These are not the actions of a good businesswoman. Maybe she was an excellent service provider in the past. That doesn't change what she's doing now.

Yeah...I paid the price for ordering from her while she must have been having her "problems" several years back -- to the tune of $200! I agree.
I find that certain things people order from me do end up, sometimes, taking longer than I had thought, BUT, I answer each and every eMail right away,
and I also explain what is going on, and a time frame for whatever it is.
Everyone gets busy, and can get behind, but to take so many people's money and never send out anything is not an option.
No one could ever claim I don't reply to their questions, I offer a email and phone # to contact.
Any reputable business should do that,
and the only reason they wouldn't, is to scam people.

I often think I'd love to go into this sort of business. I make my own shawls, legwarmers, skirts and blouses and other bits and pieces like that, for myself and my friends, it's a fun hobby for me and the result is usually pretty eye-catching if not completely professional! Looking at your site, Barbara, and Bear's, I used to kind of go, "Pfft, those shawls coudln't possibly cost that much" but since I've started doing my own I've discovered they're not as outrageously priced as I first thought; even with half-decent fabric my own shawls have cost me upwards of €50 and €60, mostly on fringe. I hate buying fringe!! :o There are few decent places in Ireland to get a good variety of colours so I've had to reallly scour online for it, and I begrudge paying so much for it.
So yes, maybe one day I'll join the competition :p You must really love your work, it sounds like a dream job to me. :)

Yes, it is the fringe that drives most of the shawl and cape prices up, that stuff is outrageous, LOL!
If you wouldn't mind, I would love to see some of your creations!
Do you have any photos I could see?
That's cool that you do the legwarmers, too, that was one of the first things I made (simply because you could not find the gathered up velvet ones ANYWHERE on the planet!) and I did them the best I could, but worked on the method and finally figured out how to get them done the right way.
I love putting the zippers in, makes them really easy to get on and off.
Well, let me rephrase, I don't love PUTTING them in, I love when they ARE in, LOL.
I agree, that most people probably think some prices are high, but for good material, nice fringe, and the equipment (sewing machines, sergers, etc) to put it all together, + time and concept (I draw all my own patterns) it really isn't that bad. I know I used to pay a lot for anything that resembled a Stevie piece, as it was so rare, and cool pieces were coveted.
Now, I rarely buy any clothes anymore, other than sweat pants, tshirts, etc. as for skirts, capes, tops, etc. for my shows, I just make a fresh batch, LOL.
You are right, I really DO love what I do. Sometimes it is stressful, (deadlines to complete orders for concert goers, gifts, etc) but I have to sit back and remember how lucky I am for the opportunity to be ABLE to create these beautiful things for everyone....and I have worked for other people since I was 14. Now, I am able to work for myself, at home, and make beautiful things for Stevie fans, and you are right, it IS a "dream job".
I wish you luck if you decide to start selling, and I am happy to answer any questions you may have about clothing design, too.
And I would love pics of your finery, if you have them available?

Legwarmers took me ages to get my head around, my method is awkward as all hell and it's all done by hand, which is long winded and leaves my fingers aching, but it's well worth it in the end.

Where do the zippers go? Sorry, I know that sounds like a stupid question  but I've never even thought of putting zippers in mine! Just elastic at the knee, usually.

Oh goodie, I will love to see the pics!
Zippers go on the inside seam, like Stevie's (of course I cannot find a pic showing this when I want it) you don't need zippers, they just make it look neat, and go over boots with a bit of ease, and I like to add little moon or penguin charms to the zipper pulls for cuteness, LOL.
Make it up as you go, nothing wrong with that, as long as it turns out as you dreamed it up!
Just let me know if you want any tips or stuff, I think it would be cool for you to sell your stuff, as a lot of people would probably like to order locally than have to pay higher shipping from the US to order from me :)
There is always room for more beautiful finery...
All the best, from "Caesar" (that was funny!)

That friend of mine is going to send Bear one last email in a couple of days, tearing her a new one for all the aggravation she's given me. We'll see what happens (given her history, probably nothing - or some self-serving b.s. "Oh pity me, I'm all alone and can't cope" defence).

My friend sent that email to Bear early this morning. We have a friendly little wager going - if I win (Bear doesn't respond) she owes me 50 plus a new copy of Bella Donna (she's still denying that she scratched mine). The money is losing its place as the main issue here. Between my jobs I've made enough to recoup the loss. Don't get me wrong - I still want it back. I'd also like the money spent on long-distance calls trying to track her down and report her to the various companies and law-enforcement officials. And I wouldn't say no to a little extra for the aggravation.
What I'd like to do in the interim is tie a tin can to the tail of the kite - to put bells on the scarlet woman so that all will hear her coming and know who and what she is. But how to go about this...I've already had her BBB file updated, for all the good *that* did...
Any ideas?

After weeks and weeks of nothing even resembling progress....tiny, delicate glimmering threads (I dare not call them hope lest they shatter and crumble like their predecessors) appear to emerge from the darkness.
Ah....I'm starting to wax poetic. A definite sign that I've been up too long.
To sleep, perchance to dream...
"If we shadows have offended,/Think but this, and all is mended,/That you have but slumber'd here,/While these visions did appear,/And this weak and idle theme,/No more yielding than a dream..."
Maybe I'll be lucky and the last year and a half will have been naught but a dream....and maybe one day we'll have an honest government, and cats will fly of their own accord, and I'll be able to carry a harp on the back of a Harley...sorry. Fatigue and bitterness are not a good mix.

They won't do that. Ebay basically said (but in a polite, sympathetic way) "Sucks to be you. We created a forum but according to our own policies we can't monitor it." I can ask for her to be banned but because she didn't rip me off through their site they won't do it. It's my word against hers and they're just not interested.
As for PayPal.....God, just to get through to them is a hassle. I talked to them a number of times earlier this year, trying to get information. All they would give me is a "customer service number" for Bear which turned out to be a cell phone that didn't receive incoming calls. I called them back and told them that - they said they'd look into it (suuuuuure they will). I haven't heard a peep out of them from that day to this.

I'm sorry you've had a negative experience with her, too. I just emailed her via eBay and requested she remove me from her website as a link. I've had several emails, from her customers, thinking that I ran toe to toe with here, whereas, I don't know her very well and we never communicate and haven't for years! I don't want to be associated with this kind of business practice. It's a shame!

Bad karma for sure. But she sure has bilked a lot of innocent people out of their hard-earned cash. Have some of you thought about contacting the police or sheriff's department in the area she lives in? It's time to pursue legal measures against her or anyone who rips off fans this way.

I've already tried talking to them (the Georgia state police) - I asked if there was a statute of limitations on filing fraud charges. The first officer I spoke to didn't think so, but she wasn't sure so I got passed from department to department and was finally told to call a law library. I've been looking into filing charges in small-claims court for months now. I only wish I could do it from here - so far as I know Canada doesn't have the jurisdiction to go after her (bloody typical) or something to that effect. I was left with the understanding that if I want to sue her I have to actually do it in Decatur.
Are there enough of us out there to band together for a class-action lawsuit? How many do you need for something like that? Or can that only be done against corporations? I checked months ago - she's an unincorporated business.

Okay, I'm no legal expert but this is what I know about local law enforcement agencies. Typically, the local officers investigate a crime initially. That would be either the County Sheriff's Office or Police Department in the City where she lives. If she lives outside the city limits, then the city police wouldn't do you any good but the Sheriff's Office covers the entire county that she lives in and they could pursue this. Tell them you want to speak to someone in Investigations. Tell them it involves mail/wire fraud (specifically, internet fraud). Typically, the State Police agencies within each state investigate crimes that have been turned over to them by the local agencies so they aren't the first-responders in an area which may explain why you got bounced around the Georgia State Police when you called, they are usually called in by local police to assist in investigations, etc. not do the initial investigations.

I'll have a bash at it but would they even bother looking into it at this stage? In my case I'm ten days shy of it being a full sixteen months since she first ripped me off. For at least one of the others here it's been years.

One full week and no word yet from the Decatur Police. They were supposed to call me for my statement. I'm not calling them back. They'll just bounce me around the departments again. I found a few email addresses on their website I can try.
At this point I can't see this coming to anything more than a Pyrrhic victory, even if the police do take action against Bear. I should have just broken out the primitive lighting equipment and old-fashioned farm implements and stormed her little suburban fortress.

I've recently been informed that I *do* have grounds to sue Bear in my home province, though the lady I spoke to didn't think it'd be worth the effort as there's no real way of making Bear pay. She thinks the Decatur Police might be the better way to go.
I'm going to contact a lawyer to discuss the next move...

Yeah well, when this Bear girl was on that show, she told everyone on camera that it takes her about a day or two to get a whole outfit done. If that's true, then her mind is long gone....I think it's terrible that she keeps people waiting on their outfits, and to top it off she's charging a hell of a lotta money! I think the wise thing to do is to take her to small claims court and get your money back. What Bear needs to do is act like a buisness woman and to answer one email at a time to tell people when it will be done, then she should take a picture of what it looks like when it's done, then people should send her the money for it, and then she should send everyone their package. That's what I would do. One order at a time and to always keep in touch. But what she's doing is booking a whole bunch of orders at the same time and charging people at the same time and making one item of clothing at the same time. That's problably why it's taking so long. But I would consider suing her for the money that you've sent her and keep your bank and credit card statements to prove that you've been charged, and you've never recieved it. Also keep your emails she's sent you. I watch enough Judge Judy to know what to do. LOL! Judge Judy Rocks!;)

Five Years! You could have gotten a doctorate in Psychology faster! This is really pitiful. How much money did you send her? And the fact that she was on that show a few years back hawking her merchandise makes it even worse. I say all you guys get together and go look for her! Unfortunately, just because someone professes to be a Stevie/FM fan doesn't mean they are an ethical business person. I had an unfortunate business transaction with a well-known Stevie fan on ebay who sold me an overpriced item which contained gross errors in its description. At least I know to never buy from them ever again. I would say the same holds for "Bear" from everything I've heard/read about her here.

Do they try out-of-state cases on shows like that? I thought Judge Judy held court in New York. Bear conducts her transactions (legitimate and otherwise) from Decatur, Georgia. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't try an international case like mine...and unfortunately there is no Canadian equivalent of the formidable Judge Judy.

I have to admit, I'm glad she has responded to some of you. I hope more will follow soon. I feel that she may have gone through something very personal and troubling but I do understand the frustration and anger many of you would feel for the behavior behind it. If she can pay everyone back, while she won't garner much loyal business, at least she can come relatively "square again", by coming through with refunds vs. nothing at all.

Hi, everyone,
I watch the ledge sometimes and I also had trouble getting in for a while. Something about my browser. I just want to say that it's really sad that people are having problems with their orders. I don't know if anyone is aware (???) but Bear has health issues and I really believe she should be honest with everyone and not be taking people's money if she cannot complete the work. I have a whole Rhiannon outfit
from maybe 5 or 6 years ago. It's great but it did take me a good while to get it.. not as long as some of you though. It IS true she is dealing with alot of personal issues, and I understand the health problems she is going through because I have them as well (and Stevie actually has similar problems). However, it's no excuse for taking money and not doing anything about it ....she needs to go on hiatus. People with these sort of health problems sometimes do odd things. I know I can react oddly at times. I hope everything will be worked out soon.
