I just got home from the Perth concert and I wanted to post some bits and pieces. It was a pretty weird concert.
It was a double bill with Farnham again. She went on first though.
I think she might have been sick (or getting sick). I'm sure she was on something. Vocally, she was in fine form. But she seemed tired.
During the band intros she giggled all the way through it, and was struggling to get her sentences out. Now when I say I think she was on something, I'm thinking like cold & flu medication or something...I'm not trying to imply she was on something illegal at all.
I think this was the worst of the 4 concerts I saw, but having said that it was still amazing. She nailed every song. Stand Back was the best I've seen here. Again, If Anyone Falls was a highlight. It just keeps getting better and better.
Rock & Roll and Beauty And The Beast were two other highlights.
There was no Edge Walk! This was the worst set up concert I went to. The stage was too high. There was no way for Stevie to bend down far enough to reach the people standing at the stage. The stage was higher than the average person's height!
It was an outdoor concert and it was quite windy. The screens were blowing and rippling around almost constantly.
The security people were total nazis! They wouldn't let people up to the stage. I was sitting on the side though, and people in the front blocks were allowed up but yeesh it was tough. Then some people got up to dance on the grass and the security people made them move so far over I'm surprised they could see Stevie.
Even Vanessa Carlton was off. She messed up on three songs! The first time I thought "Oh she's just doing her usual shtick", but then it happened two more times!
I know I'm making it sound like this concert sucked but it truly didn't. Like I said, Stevie's voice was spot on. I went with my sister and mother and they were totally blown away. She sang so much better than when she was here with FM in 04.
The wind did kinda make Stevies outfits look cool. They were all flowing and billowing in the wind. It did a number on her hair though. They wasn't really a fringe like she had at the other shows because it was always being blown off her face.
So anyway, I loved every single song and really enjoyed every minute of it.
I can't think of anything else right now, but if I do I'll be sure to add it here.

This would really piss me off.
Maybe you wouldn't have thought it was awful if you hadn't all the other shows to compare it to. But no edge walk! :(

I hope she is ok! I'm not happy to hear she may be sick and/or tired. I really want her to take a break after the NZ shows. Take care of yourself Stevie! Remember guys, she is 57 years old. A lot of 20-30 year olds wouldn't have the energy to do what she does. It's very difficult physically and emotionally.

Take care of yourself Stevie!
Absolutely. As much as I'm hoping she tours here or Europe this year, if she needs a long break then she should take it. Although didn't she have 5-6 months off after the end of the U.S. Gold Dust tour?

What, stand in one place and sing for an hour and a half, maybe spin around a few times? If there are 20-30 year olds who don't have the energy to do that, I hope they're receiving some sort of treatment.
Bob Dylan's several years older than Stevie, and he plays five shows a week when he's on tour. Springsteen's about her age, and he puts on concerts that are much longer than hers. And that includes a lot of running around and guitar slinging if he's with the band. And ****, have you seen the Stones lately?
If Stevie's at all ill, I hope that she has a chance to rest up a bit and that she feels better soon. But Christ, let's not pretend that she's performing some kind of back-breaking, soul-sucking labour standing up there. That's some damn nice work, if you can get it.

I'll add a few ladies to the list for comparison: Tina Turner (born 1939), Carole King (1942), Bette Midler (born 1945), even Cher (1946) . These ladies can all put a lot of energy into a show. I think when it comes to energy, Tina and Bette are at the top of the heap, and have always been there. Stevie was born in 1948. She's still the new kid on the block. None of them have to work hard at this point in their careers, but if you still put yourself out there, fans expect a great show. I haven't exactly heard anyone complaining about Stevie's performances on the Aussie tour. Maybe she has a bug or was out late. (She gets on a midnight plane, she's done it a thousand times?) ;)

This reminds me of her public tribulations with the IRS when her 1991 income tax filing was questioned. Her attorney responded that her clothing expenses were as great as they were due to the intense and demanding performances that she was putting on at the time. Let's see, I remember she lifted her arm and waved her hand once during the Behind the Mask shows I saw.

Have you ever heard of jet lag? Changing hotels night after night? Flying from city to city? Putting on a big production? Just being Stevie Nicks? And she isn't just standing in one place for an hour and a half. Singing is like exercise and performing can take a lot out of a person physically and emotionally, I don't care if you're standing there or jumping up and down. Touring is tiring for anyone, let alone a 57 year old who is half way around the world. And how about all the interviews, talk shows, fan meetings, fittings, etc. I'm sure she has a packed and hectic schedule over there unlike you and I who are sitting on our asses behind a computer chatting on a forum.
As far as Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, etc. I'm sure they get tired as well and don't forget she has had a lot of health problems over the years. So what, you can think of a handful of artists who are in their 50's and 60's touring the world. For every 1 you can think of I can think of 20 who are retired. In fact a lot of people her age are retired and living in Florida. Not many 57 year olds are touring the world honey.
I was basically showing my concern and saying she could possibly use some rest. Give me a break.
On edit: The review said she seemed tired but still in top shape vocally and I think that's totally understandable.

Even Springsteen has the ocasional off night. He rocks, yes, but Everyone has off days. I had one at work yesterday, but THOUSANDS of people don't know about it! I love how the whole Auzzie tour so far has been nothing but excitement and good news, and now one not so great review and WHAM!!! I hear acouple of angry villagers coming with their torches. but then again, THEY probabally never have off days.

I saw them in Jacksonville in May 2004 and, although still a fun show, it was my least favorite performance out of every Stevie/FM show I've been to. I wonder what was wrong with her?

I was going to her birthday show in Virginia, and that got cancelled. I was out east for like a week and a half, and saw one show, Holmdel, which never shouldve happened. Then I went o a friends family renunion in Missouri and came back east fro Scranton, Hershey, and Cleveland. It sucked at the time, but I can look back and laugh now. The wosrt was driving from Philadelphia on June 1 to Scranton and finding out halfway that that show was postponed. AHHHHH:laugh:

I don't know about you, but I find it exhausting traveling, sleeping in strange beds, flying, etc. It is not just her 90 minute performance. It's everything that goes into that. She is essentially on a business trip.

It was at the WACA. The fact that Perth doesn't have a proper indoor entertainment centre anymore really annoys the hell out of me. The shows in the other cities were indoors and I think that made them just a bit better. I wondered in the middle of the show why they didn't do it at Burswood.
It has been horribly hot here the past few day. Around 35 degrees and up (Celsius), which is I think in the 90s Fahrenheit, so that may have had something to do with the tiredness.

I don't think it has to do with being tired. She just looks like she doesn't want to be up there. Even with just watching the melbourne clips she doesn't move much at all...It makes me sad..i hope she is ok.

I just remembered some other (pointless) things.
Just a couple of lyric changes. In Landslide I thought she always sang "And if you see my reflection in snooooow covered hills.....well maybe the landslide will bring it down.."
She dropped the maybe.
Fall From Grace: She sang "And now all in my dream as it all begins again"
There was another one I think during If Anyone Falls but I don't remember what it was right now.
And one more thing, maybe someone can clear this up for me. During Outside The Rain (which totally rocked last night), when she gets to what I consider the peak of the song "baby is there anyone in this whole wide world that can ever replace me!?", what does she say after that. I have never been able to figure that out from listening to bootlegs OR from hearing it live.
It sounds like "I don't think...so down...take it away". The take it away is easy to get but the first bit totally confuses me. I came away from 3 concerts thinking it was three different things! So down/Slow Down/Soda!
Slow down seems right, but I dont really hear the "L". Oh well, garbled lyrics are what I love about Stevie

I think the clips (and even the video screens) can be deceiving though. In Melbourne she was on fire. OK she didnt move around much, but the looks on her face and the way she'd smile seemed to indicate that she truly loves performing and wanted to be there.
And (again!) with the pointless info. The video screens were harsh! I had spent an hour telling my mother and sister how beautiful Sharon was, and then to see her on the video screen, it was like looking at a totally different woman. Every flaw came out.
Even with Stevie it happened. If there were no screens my whole 'tiredness' theory probably wouldn't have occured. I still would've been a bit intrigued by the giggly-ness, but I wouldn't have seen that her eyes seemed tired and stuff. I'm beginning to think she hasnt had a nose job either judging by the screen. If she paid for a nose like that, she deserves a refund!
But that's what was strange. I stood so close to Sharon. In person she's flawless. I was really close when I touched Stevie. She looked flawless then too. Maybe having huge screens is just like being put under a microscope.
During the band intros, when she got to Jana, Stevie said she was the child she never had, and dissolved into giggles. Double over too! Then she said to the audience "Ok, I know that's not that funny!" That cracked up the audience. I know I seemed concerned about the constant giggles but that one thing was a highlight in itself because I felt that at that point she totally connected with the audience, which didn't happen a lot during the concert....with her talking I mean. The songs definitely hit the bull's eye.
Before Beautiful Child she announced that she wrote this song in "nineteen........seventy-six or seventy-seven. I bet you didnt know that". I'm sure she said the "I bet.." part either in the intro to BC or Landslide, but I think it was BC, and that may not be a direct quote but that was the gist of it.
No dedication to HAEWAFY, but Landslide was dedicated to "all of you".
Yikes, what was supposed to be a single point turned into heaps of useless stuff! :o

During Outside the Rain, this past summer, Stevie sang "if so then, take it away, take away that heart ache..take it away". I think what you were hearing was the "If so then" part. It is a pretty cool adlib but I prefer, "no one in this wholewideworldcouldeverreplace me!" She sometimes would sing that part with such conviction and venom..it made me crack up. I sort of miss it. Well I've only seen these Gold Dust shows and the Fleetwood Mac 04 tour, so I'm only able to compare these shows with the FM shows. Now THOSE were a couple of sluggish not-move-very-much shows....apart from the Lasso dance  and the kickarse Stand Backs!
I think Jana is the one that looks horrible as she's singing. She's cute, but when she's going for those big notes her mouth opens so wide it reminds me of a boa constrictor unhinging its jaws so it can devour something whole!

I saw them in Jacksonville in May 2004 and, although still a fun show, it was my least favorite performance out of every Stevie/FM show I've been to. I wonder what was wrong with her?
Probably one problem is the weight issue she was complaining about in that interview when she was talking the Adkins diet. As good as Stevie's performances were in 1994, she seemed labored to get out the notes she wanted, and her voice sounded deeper (not that it WAS deeper, it just had more of a bass quality to it). With the weight, she probably wasn't feeling her best, and then if she was sick on top of that, her performances were likely to be hurting.

.
It's not like that at all. It's a 15 hour day, or more, of travelling, interviews, phone calls, dealing with agents and executives, contracts, and just the whole entire mess, in a giant whirlwind. Plus trying to find the time to write.
Trust me, it's a full-time job, and then some. And most people would quit after the first week, or literally collapse from exhaustion.

gday all i also went last night and was a little disapointed compared to the melb show,, that was just fkin incredible.
the crowd was a joke they were all there to c john and the fact she went on first shat me right off, he was supporting her not the other way around.
the couple of stevie fans really got into it..
the vocal was stunning again.. but the wind was a joke and she should have played 2 shows at the burswood theatre it would have been perfect.
the only downer or not so much downer but amusing thing was the woman next to me who was clearly a stoner from back in the day thought vanessa carlton was the Daughter???
i left after stevie and did not watch john i had work at 5 the next morning

It is a pretty cool adlib but I prefer, "no one in this wholewideworldcouldeverreplace me!" She sometimes would sing that part with such conviction and venom..it made me crack up. I sort of miss it. I guess she doesnt feel that way anymore, so she her adlibs have changed.
My favorite part of OTR is "WellMickSaysStevieThisIsJustOneMoreLinkInTheChain"!!!! I absolutely love the way she belts that out...

gday all i also went last night and was a little disapointed compared to the melb show,, that was just fkin incredible.
the crowd was a joke they were all there to c john and the fact she went on first shat me right off, he was supporting her not the other way around.
the couple of stevie fans really got into it..
the vocal was stunning again.. but the wind was a joke and she should have played 2 shows at the burswood theatre it would have been perfect.
the only downer or not so much downer but amusing thing was the woman next to me who was clearly a stoner from back in the day thought vanessa carlton was the Daughter???
i left after stevie and did not watch john i had work at 5 the next morning
Maybe that is why she wasn't in a good mood. If the audience isn't into it, that can make all the difference.
And if I were her, I'd be pissed that I was the opening act! Stevie is not "opening act" material! Then again, I think Vanessa Carlton is one of the best performers today and she's an opening act. She deserves more popularity...

I figured she wanted to go on first because she was sick and/or tired. I found it really weird because John was first in Brisbane, and I don't think they agreed to take turnsies.
We'll see after the Adelaide show I guess. That's a double bill isnt it?

Wasn't there a comment by Brisharry from when he spoke with Waddy about Stevie going on first cause Farnham's band used Stevie's band equipment and it f**ked up the sound for them when they came on after him?? Maybe that's the reason she went first.
She seems to thrive at the indoor enviro's.. maybe it's an asma (sp) thing?

I think she may have just been having an off night. There are lots of factors that could have gone into that. She does that...it's not a sign of anything, IMO...yet.

Stevie isn't Cher, Tina Turner, Bette Midler, Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, or Bruce Springsteen. She can't be expected to have the same energy level as these others just because she's close to the same age. I'm 25 years younger than most of those people and I have less energy than they do.
As others have said, sounds like she had an off night but still put on a nice vocal performance. It's really up to the audience to decide if they got their money's worth. If Stevie starts putting in lethargic performances on a regular basis, then she will find smaller audiences over time. I personally don't care if she spins around anymore or does high kicks. As long as she sounds good and looks like she enjoys being on stage, I'll continue to see her.

Even in Stevie's twirling and high kicking days she never strutted and pranced around like Mick Jagger. And I'm glad she didn't. That's just not her style. After seing the Stones play at the Super Bowl I think it's time they seriously consider retirement...for good.

(She gets on a midnight plane, she's done it a thousand times?) ;)
okay i HAVE to comment

Oh, I totally agree. You can't compare the Stones and Stevie Nicks. Two completely different performances. IMO, the Stones are out to shock with their antics. Stevie just sings her music as she always has. Anyway, I don't want to upset Stones fans. I liked their music a lot in 1968-1975

.. I'm not a big Stones fan myself..but I have to admit the show they put on here where I live was awesome this summer..There was so so much work into the whole show..It was sorta mind boggling the work that was done for just 1 day...It took us almost a month to build the custom made stage..and I have to admit watching Mick strut his stuff at his age was great. There were 4 other way younger bands that played before the Stones..and while they were really good...they didn;t hold a candle to Mick and the boys .as far as entertaining value..(moves ,dancing and getting the crowd involved..)
Have you ever heard of jet lag? Changing hotels night after night? Flying from city to city? Putting on a big production? Just being Stevie Nicks?
Give me a break. Stop making these pathetic excuses for the woman. I've never heard Stevie Nicks complaining that being a rock star is hard work. It's not. It's a hell of a lot of fun, and it's a pretty f*cking pampered existence.
"Just being Stevie Nicks?" Are you delusional?
By the way, if you're wondering why it took me so long to reply to this post: I spent three hours Tuesday night on trains and buses, after which trip I attempted to sleep on the hard floor of an airport for four hours. Once I arose, I had ahead of me a 19 hour day on two different flights, seated next to a one-year-old baby and a really fat guy, respectively. I was in the first economy row on each flight, and let me tell you, those poor shlubs in first class looked like they were really having a rough go of it, what with all the leg room and booze and warm towels. Just imagining them being forced to spend the next night in a different luxury suite than the one they'd woken up in that morning was so emotionally distressing for me that I nearly forgot about how sore my neck had been all day since I'd gotten up off the cold airport floor. My heart just bleeds for their thankless existences. They are truly the unsung heroes of this world.
I'm sure she has a packed and hectic schedule over there unlike you and I who are sitting on our asses behind a computer chatting on a forum.
Oh yes, by all accounts, her schedule is just grueling. I mean, all those hours doing her hair must really take it out of her.
On edit: The review said she seemed tired but still in top shape vocally and I think that's totally understandable.
I agree, it's totally reasonable for her to feel tired as a result of touring and traveling. What's not reasonable is this ridiculous attitude of "Poor Stevie, being a rock star is sooooo hard, it's so physically draining, can you even imagine!" I imagine Stevie herself would be the first one to admit that she doesn't need such bizarre sympathy. She knows how good she's got it.

Ah ok. I noticed there weren't many people up at the stage but I put that down to the crowd being mostly older. I think Stevie should've just had Vanessa with her and that's all. I didnt see the point in adding Farnham unless it was designed to increase sales.

From the Enchanted booklet about Twisted: "I realized that this really was MY story. It was about people who had extreme jobs..like chaising tornadoes,or being in a rock band."
Whether she has an easy life or a hard one, one thing i do know is that you can never judge somebody else's life unless you know them personally and even then...
And by the way, have you ever tried walking on high heeled platforms every night ? I bought a pair this winter (just couldn't resist them) and the longest i've worn them was 1 hour!

Hi all, I also went to the stevie Nicks concert at the W.A.C.A.
I have been a loyal fan of stevie and the Mac for the last thirty years and I must say I have to agree with Blue lamp on his review, I have also read all of the replies he got to his review. I was sitting in the front row of the WACA directly infront of the stage, Stevie definatly wasnt herself the magic and oomph just wasnt there, she did look stunning and her vocals were very good but its as though she just wasnt there in heart. I understand that everyone will want to feel defensive for Stevie's sake and every excuse Im sure will be made for her ....But when fans are paying good hard earned money and also have to wait for years to be able to see their favorite artist Its dissapointing to see the show lack what we read everyone else sees. I guess if America is the place you live It must be awesome to be able to catch Stevie or Fleetwood mac concerts as they are quite readily available alot of the time, But living so far away from that luxury in Australia and there only being one designated concert in each city makes one think that maybe we would expectThe same brilliance of the shows in America. I was the person who went to the stage front at the end of edge of seventeen Stevie walked straight up to me looked me straight in the eyes and said I cant twice I was the only person up there at the time. A girlfriend won a meet and greet with Stevie through the local radio station and got to see Stevie for 2 minutes after the show, She asked Stevie to sign two solo albums which she did and handed her a beautiful pic of Stevie and Lindsey Buckingham For stevie to autograph She said Stevie was reluctant to sign the picture stating that lindsey was the person that she likes least in the world, I found this comment from Stevie quite unproffessional considering personal issues should remain exactly that. I also found that Stevie didnt interact with the crowd like she normaly does it was more of lets get this show done and overwith. Also people who had bought bunches of beautiful long stemmed roses for stevie were rejected only two people got to pass stevie the bouquets Via the security guards...... all in all very disapointing

WOAH
im sorry you feel that way
but aside for the ENORMOUS amount of people in the audience at a (particularly Mac) concert, I think Australian shows are WAY better than the U.S ones. I certainly haven't a huge wad of tours under my belt, only 5 SYW shows & 3 Gold Dust ones but I think Stevie.....and FMac feel a little more bolder and adventurous out here SO very far away on the other side of the world. Security is strict as **** in the U.S and that really affects your experience of a show as well. I have a fave show from the US and one from here but they are for totally different reasons. Regardless of what anyone says EVERY night is a DIFFERENT show. You have no idea whether it will rock or suck ass.
sounds like Perth really sucked :(
i read that article the other day with the Perth review
and was getting upset Adelaide would be the same (i was not impressed with the last Mac tour here, the venue sucked ass, the weather sucked ass & the crowd was seriously quiet)
But the show here ****ing ROCKED MAN! and i'm not just saying that coz I live here. I was very very impressed overall. Stevie was happy, she was funny, there was a substantial crowd, essentially no security and her voice was spot on.
that comment about Lindsey
i don't believe it
not that she said it
but that she meant it
She has mentioned him at practically every show here
and you could hardly call her bitter. She doesn't have to mention him at all. But she does.
she must have had a ****ty flight?

If I hadn't seen any of the concerts in other cities I would've been amazed by the Perth concert. My mother couldn't believe me when I said it was the worst of the 4 shows I saw.
The Edge walk (or lack thereof) is what really pissed me off about the Perth show. In a way I'm kinda glad I didn't have seats in the first few rows (ie: the rows that were allowed up to the stage), because I would've felt totally cheated. But that's not even Stevie's fault. Whoever built the stage was totally incompetent. It was easily six feet off the ground and there was no way in hell she'd be able to reach down that far.
Maybe she was just in a bad mood that night? I can't believe she actually made that Lindsey remark though! I mean, I believe she said it, just not that she would/could actually say something like that to a fan.

I understand what you mean in reference to Stevie's remark about Lindsey but at the end of the day It shouldnt have been said at all. Yeah I definatly felt cheated not being able to shake her hand and yes what a stuffed up stage!!!!! It was a perfect night weather wise apart from the sea breeze though,What I was amazed about was the fact that in the front seats and at stage front you cant hear the crowds applause!I found that amazing!I noticed after each song stevie was taking the ear plugs from her ears to hear the reaction of the crowd. Lets hope Perth creates a new entertainment centre or maybe the next tour could be at burswood at least the stage wouldnt be so high! How rediculous was that! anyway catch you next time
