Another season, another wonderful opportunity to. . .

Vote
For
The
Worst
!!!

That's right, the maddening craze that swept the nation is back for another year! During the initial auditions phase, the producers want you to be entertained by all the terrible performers. But then, in the finals, all the sudden we are expected to stop finding this terrible talent entertaining, and vote for who the judges and 19E entertainment have pre-selected as the winner. The Vote For the Worst philosophy says that American Idol is a joke, but the joke can be on them if we choose. We say "Screw the Man!"

I haven't watched a season in it's entirety since the first. Since then I've only watched the auditions. After that it's trash. This year however, depending on how bad it really is I may watch the whole season. It just starts to bore me once I get beyond the humor of the auditions.

I'm sure a lot of people know this but I know someone who auditioned and gave me the scoop (I had a feeling about this but wasn't sure). Thousands of people audition before they ever get in front of Paula, Simon, and Randy. These people they audition in front of pick people who are particularly bad to go in front of the official judges strictly for entertainment purposes knowing they will never make it through. The majority of people, good or bad, never make it in front of the official judges.

Agreed. I watched it for about 1/2 hour while my laundry was drying and thought well, same 'ol ****. Everyone that can't sing get basically the same reactions from the judges, and everyone that CAN sing just sound like good imitators of already established pop stars. Also, hearing "My Girl" for the ZILLIONTH time on that friggin' show made me want to shoot my tele.

I don't think it's a joke. People slip through the cracks all the time....Britney Spears....Ashlee Simpson. It's real life. Some people who have great talent send in demos to record producers and get thrown away. Others, like Simpson, just have to say "My daddy is a producer and my sister is a star" and get a record deal. It sucks, but that's life.

Ugh. I think that's so unfair. Not only should they not be allowed to audition together, they shouldn't be allowed to sing together either.

That crackhead getting through almost makes me not want to watch this show anymore. So what? They axe all those other horrible people and pick this guy? Why? I guess they think he'll bring in ratings. Whatever .

I also thought it was mean that they brought in poor-man's Paris Hilton's mother to the audition room to humiliate her. Poor form folks. Poor form.

How true.....especially in this day and time, it's more about looks/sexuality than actual talent. Which, there is nothing wrong with having looks or showing off your sexuality...but please have some talent to back it up with.

Well of course she is too dense to understand that they were trying to humiliate her (or maybe she wasn't, I don't know). Simon should have left it alone, and while we're on the subject of these two, enough already about the girl's tan. Can we eat up more time talking about her stupid tan? Yes, it's stupid, it looks horrible, but do we need to spend 10 minutes talking about how bad it looks? Not only was it dumb on Simon's part, but it was mindnumbing as well. I didn't know I had this much rant in me today!

The highlights of the show were first off Crystal (the tan girl). Her singing is the funniest thing I've ever heard but her stupidity is what really got me. Is she for real or just playing a character? At the end when she was singing Lady Marmalade I was simply dying! I was laughing so hard my stomach hurt.

The girl from the Ukraine was my next favorite. I'm so glad they let her go for as long as they did. Those movements, OMG absolutely f*ucking hilarious! And Paula got all into it and took her jacket off and said she was sexy. I love how she messed up the lyrics too and those words with that accent were classic!

As far as the crazy guy getting through, it was obviously for entertainment purposes. I highly doubt they truly believe he has talent. It's TV and crazy people = ratings.

It's his own damn fault he made an ass of himself on national television. They cut him cuz he sucked and he went on a ramapage about equal rights and the way he looks. Seems to me he is not as comfortable in his skin like he thinks he is.

I love how they played the theme song from The Crying Game when he walked out. Classic !

Bottom line is he was blaming the judges for being narrow minded and "prejudice" for not picking him when it had nothing to do with his gender confusion - he just couldn't sing.

This story is on those twins who were dressed all in white.

'Idol' Twins Charged With Forgery, Theft

AP
MEMPHIS, Tenn. - They sang like angels for their audition on Tuesday's 'American Idol' premiere, but a pair of Memphis twins may sound more like jailbirds by the time the show goes live from Hollywood.

Terrell Brittenum, 28, has been in jail since Jan. 10 on an outstanding warrant for charges related to the illegal purchase of a car in Rockdale County, Ga., east of Atlanta.

He and his brother, Derrell, are accused of using another man's identity to buy a 2005 Dodge Magnum in June.

Derrell was expected to turn himself in on the same charges of forgery, theft by deception and financial identity fraud, The Commercial Appeal newspaper reported.

The brothers auditioned together in September for the hit TV show 'American Idol' and impressed the show's prickly judges to continue to the next round. Segments of the show have already been recorded and will air during the next few weeks.

Fox Broadcasting Co. refused to discuss the Brittenums or their status on the show.

The return of the show Tuesday drew its best-ever season premiere ratings with 35.5 million viewers. It was a 6 percent increase over last year's debut, according to preliminary Nielsen Media Research figures.

But then it occured to me that maybe they're (the show) trying to show what the whole auditioning process is really like? That no talent people really do come to auditions, thinking they can sing.

Btw- I loved that little cowboy, too. I was SO happy he made it through. I think he really can sing- he was just so nervous, bless his heart. At first, my husband and I were talking sh*t about the whole "cowboy" thing, until we realized that these people really are actual cowboys! So, they can wear the boots and the hats. :)

I was channel flipping and caught him. A-D-O-R-A-B-L-E. He can't sing, but he's a sweetie.

He, like spaz attack, should not have gone through. What is UP with the judges this season? My theory is that they're trying to get some underdogs in the competition for the country to root for. Sad thing is, they're not going to make it past the second round.

I can't believe the chick who did the Bjork song made it. She seemed more like a cartoon character to me than a future idol.

Again, it's the underdog theory. Whatevs. The carbon copy people will win like they always do. Letting these "different" less talented people through is only a ploy. It'll all even out as the competition continues.

That's some of it, but a lot is ratings. Notice they let some of the most God-awful people through - to get a laugh, make it fun, keep things interesting, give Simon someone to snark at. Then there are the people who are well aware that they can't sing, but they want to get on TV.

Well, yeah, I didn't hear exactly WHY she was homeless--my attention must have wandered if they said what happened. Did they give a reason? I guess I figure it can happen for all kinds of reasons and gave her the benefit of the doubt. Regardless, I liked the tone of her voice and thought she performed well. I also liked the guy with the bald head and adopted kids. His wife was ridiculous with all her crying though.
At this early stage I like to try to pick out who I think will make it to the top 12. I don't think the homeless girl will, but that guy might. I HOPE the little cowboy doesn't, just because I don't know that he'd be able to perform well. I remember how embarrassed I was for John Stevens--(the redheaded oldies guy from season 3). Poor thing was just awful and people kept voting for him for some reason. By the end he looked like he was pleading for people to put him out of his misery.

Pffft, he was boring & lame. Typical of the schlubs who think that singing a song as generically as possible and without a hint of originality is going to get them props. I wanted his ass to be sent back home. At least the Bjork girl was entertaining and could sing a little.

I guess the competition up to that point was just so horrendous that that guy stood out as someone who could at least sing, even if it was generic. I think if he lost some of the vocal posturing he could be even better. Now every rocker wannabe is going to try to be the next Bo.

Speaking of Bjork girl, "It's Oh So Quiet" is one of my husband's favorite songs so he was all into it of course and I'm sitting there going, "she ain't no Bjork that's for sure." But you're right, at least she had the balls to try something different.

Just to go on record, I didn't like her because of her sob story, but because of her voice. You all have some very good points. Obviously with so much family support she won't be sleeping on the streets anytime soon. I guess she thought it would be a good gimmick? Just curious--what percentage of the people you work with would you say have some sort of serious mental illness? That's the population I work with, and I know many of my clients have been homeless in the past. Of course most of them had substance abuse issues too, so, what you said makes sense. It's hard to tell because when someone is messed up on drugs, you really can't get an accurate diagnosis. I believe you're on target though- I've always felt that the majority of homeless people suffer with some level of mental illness.

What bugs me about that girl on American Idol is that she's probably using the homeless schtick to get votes (if she gets that far, of course), not just to be noticed. It's such a serious issue and well, it just bugs me. She does have a great voice- she should have just stuck with that.

I think she was her grandmother(?).

Last night's show was filmed where I live (Greensboro)- kind of embarrassing, but the blonde girl from Abermarle (sp?) kind of made up for everyone else.

I had an American Idol revelation, though. At the end, when they showed everyone singing Fame, I noticed that it included several people who had auditioned with other songs. So, do they have whoever makes it to Randy, Paula, and Simon do several songs, then use what they think is best for the show? You all probably noticed this in maybe, season one, but I'm slow. It took the performance of Rhonetta ("You think I'm gonna drink off you, motherf*cker?) to light the bulb in my head.

Okay, Rhonetta is an idiot. Those 3 are powerful music industry people, if she thinks she's getting anywhere now she is sadly mistaken. Plus she can't sing. She makes Mariah look classy though! ;)

I don't know about this season, but the seasons I auditioned that's exactly how they did it. Producers play a HUGE part in the AI process. They really want people with f*cked up stories or controversial stories and they take these people who can't sing worth a damn and "make" them sing these songs

I think a lot of the people who say they think they can sing don't really believe it. They are simply there for their 10 seconds of fame and national TV exposure. Sadly though there are some terrible ones who really think they are great. How is that possible? Don't they hear themselves?

I felt sorry for them though - it seemed like their dad was going to be more upset with them for not getting through and that's why they were crying.

Their harmony was right on and that isn't easy to do. I was surprised that they weren't given any credit for it. They were rather wooden though and that is not right for the competition. I think they deserved props for the harmony though. I also thought the gondoleir was good. He had an image issue though, he looked like he grabbed some clothes off of the floor and just showed up! Also, I think Paula may have forgotten to take her meds, she seemed uncharactaristically cruel last night.

On Edit: I liked turrets guy, he's like Joe Cocker. I had to look away from him to fully enjoy his voice at times. It really is a great sound, soulful.

I think a lot of the people who say they think they can sing don't really believe it. They are simply there for their 10 seconds of fame and national TV exposure. Sadly though there are some terrible ones who really think they are great. How is that possible? Don't they hear themselves?

Well, that big guy did not sing a single note in tune and insisted he did. It was really bizarre! Then the woman who was like, "I'm conceited and I am excellent." I knew she was going to stink. She actually apologized to Simon for disappointing him! Maybe she did know, deep down, that she really stinks.

Hee-hee. Actually, about 30 people from the Austin auditions made it to Hollywood. Of course, it's more entertaining to show the ones who sucked. I, however, was kinda relieved that no one embarrassed our city too much. No "Wives of the Incredible Hulk" here. Those zombies were funny.

I kept laughing over the continuity editing - As you know, Simon, Paula and Randy don't appear at the cattle call audition. The Erwin Center is that big, drum-shaped building they showed at the beginning. Simon, et al, were at the Convention Center, or the new Hilton.

Early faves - Taylor, that 16 year old kid with glasses, the bald rock guy, Paris, Lisa & Kelly Pickler. I am NOT a fan of that annoying broad who was fighting with the other girl - the one who Simon said could be difficult. Annoying, she is.

02-22-2006, 07:41 AM
Madisa, is that spelled right?? Well she out sang Ann Wilson on Never. Like it or not, she sang the song better than Ann ever has, or overdid it even more ever.

Ofourse no one agreed with me on the Heart board. Its against the Bible over there to post anything that’s negative and non ass kissing about Heart. People think deep down inside posting such honest thoughts might jeopardize their slim chances of meeting Ann & Nancy at a summer Meet & Greet. I love The Ledge! You do not get bashed for being honest. I love the Heart board to and all, but everyone is more honest and jovial over here.

Now im not just saying Never was awesome to be nice. I always thought Carrie Underwoods Alone was good, but nothing to get too excited about. She could never outdo Ann. I love Kelly Pickler to death, she’s my 2nd favorite. However she’s milking the "please feel sorry for me, my family life has always sucked card". But you know what, it will probably work. My family life has SUCKED for years. However I keep that to myself. I do not like people feeling sorry for me about personal matters. To each their own, go Kelly!

I can not stand that one stupid ass African American girl that was posing. She thinks that she is so funny for being a Diva, I CANT WAIT to see her go!!!!!! I have a feeling it wont be long either, maybe Thursday night if were lucky! Her performance of that Stevie Wonder song SUCKED!! Anyone could of duplicated what she did tonight.

I wish they would put the best 2 through each week, instead of sending the bottom 2 home. Im scared some people, as its been done in the past, may not vote for their favorites bc they think everyone else already has. Hopefully none of the good people will fall through the cracks.

OK-- my thoughts..

Mandisa kicked *ss. what a powerful voice.

Lisa the 16 yr old is amazing.

Paris is such a pip squeak, her speaking voice compared to her singing voice is a hoot. She's a good performer but her voice isn't as good as the two above.

Catherine also did really well; my daughter loves her.

I didn't like that dusky voiced chick, the one the judges seemed to rave about....what the heck was her name. Melissa? i thought she hit a lot of bad notes.

Kinnik reminded me of a drag queen....

Kelly Pickler was okay but not stunning. and everyone else sort of was so so IMO. Stevie was sort of pathetic. and Brenna sucked big time LOL, pose all you want sister, that doesn't make you sing any better.

Once again, a bunch of the girls blend together for me at the start of the season. Ayla, Heather, Stevie were all blah, I can tell them apart.

Becky - sounded like she was pretending to sing. Did that just make sense to anyone? It was like me, belting something out in my car even though I have no clue how to actually sing. Ya know? But she's hot, so she'll probably make it through this week.

Brenna - she can just go away now. Are you kidding me? "You Are the Sunshine of My Life?" Seriously? First of all, you want to WOW people, especially your first week & she did NOT. Secondly, that song kind of blows. Thirdly, her voice kind of blows. Fourthly, I just don't like the bitch.

Kinnik - Strange - I thought she was good at first, then I thought she wasn't, then I thought she was good again. She's OK, she can stay for a while.

My favorites:

Mandisa - kicked the **** out of "Never." I was so excited when she said that's what she'd be singing. Fantastic.

Pickler - brave for trying Martina, and I think she was great except those high notes: "How faaaaaar, do I have to go to make you understand..." That little lift in "understand" was funky every time.

Lisa - it appears this chick will be able to sing anything. Love her.

Melissa - She sang Faith, which is risky, but I thought she did really well. I was actually moved by her performance. I hope she doesn't get lost in the sea of "which girl with the long brown hair? There's like 4 of them."

Paris - what a little spitfire, what a performer, what a VOICE! "Midnight Train to Georgia" is one of my favorite songs ever, and she nailed it.

Katherine - Might be my favorite of the night along with Paris, I liked her a lot. Again, hope she doesn't get lost.

I voted for my 6 faves, the only ones I couldn't get through for by 10:40pm were Paris & Pickler.

Something un-16 year old-ish that reminds me of one of those child performers who has always been told she is so talented and acts like a little adult. I dunno. Maybe I've been smoking some of Paula's chrionic. Oh, and I voted for Mandisa too.

Tomorrow night, Becky needs to go or I will throw my TV through the window. I couldn't believe they let her through to begin with. Yeah, she's beautiful, but please. In order to be in the final 24, you ought to be able to sing at least a LITTLE bit. Heather, Ayla, Stevie, Kinnik, Kellie, Brenna--any one of those can go too. For the guys, David and Bobby were the most annoying. Patrick could go too. Nothing special about him.

Can't wait for tomorrow night! I'm such a freak. I'd better go vote some more.

Nice eye f*cking the camera by Ace.

I thought he looked confused when he attempted it at the end of the song. Like a deer caught in the headlights. He got it right when Ryan asked him to do it again though. Somehow I find Ace's eye f*cking much sexier than Constantine's last year.

Chris Daughtry was the one that did Wanted Dead or Alive. It was probably my favorite performance of the night.

Mine too .

I laughed so hard I busted a gut over that Frank Sinatra guy's rendition of "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." What WAS that? I seriously laughed so hard I cried.

Oh, and Copa Cabana dude will be saying "adios" I'm afraid. That was total fug.

You know what? I think America will vote that little guy through, remember Anthony Federov and John Stevens? There is some kind of goody-goody contingent out there voting these people through. Maybe Simon is right, it's the 80-90 year olds who are hard of hearing!

Who SHOULD go home after last night....David Radford and Bobby Bennett because David sucked so bad, I had to turn the TV down and I love crooners. It was painful. Bobby seems like a great guy, but singing is not something he needs to be doing.

My fave voice right now is Chris. Taylor is cool and different. I like Kevin, the lil pocket hobbit and I would like to hear Patrick do something better than Melissa Etheridge. Everyone hates Gedeon's smile, but I think it's gorgeous. I wish my teeth were that white and bright. He was fun last night and I loved that shirt he was wearing...gorgeous color!

Ace. I don't get the whoo-ha over this guy. Okay, he *might* be the best looking of this particular bunch, but he is not drool-worthy for me. He ain't ugly, but meh...average. Also, his voice is so damn thin. Too thin and breathy for me.

Constantine was always trying too hard. Ace doesn't have to try.

Ace: "I'll be your daddy..."
Me: "OK!"

Chris kicked ass last night, I loved it. Ace, Taylor & Elliot were close behind, and I didn't mind Gedeon OR Sway. I don't normally like it when guys sing a whole song falsetto, but he was actually good at it & in tune the whole time. So I say he stays.

Bobby was like a bad singer on a cruise ship. Bucky was trying to be all growly/gravelly, but it didn't work. David & Will are interchangeable, so who cares. Patrick killed me by ruining that Melissa tune. Kevin - eh, cute kid, decent voice, the song put me to sleep.

I voted after Project Runway last night, so 11pm EST. The only one I didn't get through for was Bucky. I think Bobby & patrick will be out.

By FAR the best performance of the night was Chris Daughtry. What a voice! Ace is the best looking and is most definitely a star but doesn't have nearly the voice Chris has. Either could be the winner.

I also really liked the first guy but he didn't seem to be to popular.

Brenna will probably stay because of her retarded attitude (the CLAWWWWS are coming out- the way she says that offends me, and I'm originally from NY). I don't think she's that great of a singer.

I agreed with those who were sent home. Although, I wonder if maybe Patrick shouldn't have been able to stay over Kevin?

My favorites: Taylor, Elliott, Chris, and Katharine. .

I'm finally caught up on AI - I'd been DVR-ing and was a day behind until today - so I avoided this thread, until now...

Paula/Cornelius - BWAH!

Homo-cabana - Double BWAH!

Nerdy boy has a lisp! He's got a decent voice, but that LISP! It's like listening to Cindy Brady...

Chris has a great voice - but I'm surprised Simon didn't call his performance "Bon Jovi karaoke."

Ace - droooool!

I love Paris! And I love the San Fran girl whose mom is a vocal coach.
