Yup. She's nothing but a traveling greatest hits jukebox at the moment and will continue to be nothing but until she retires. Though I'm sure the Mac will have a final tour to milk as much cash as they possibly can. No new solo album, no new Mac album; that's it.

Yeah, that's what I'm afraid of. And if that's the case, then I'm kind of over the whole bunch of them. I mean...I still like her music, but if she's not going to do anything new, then who the f*ck cares?

Sadly, I think this is right on.

I think the artists and the record companies know that the money is in the touring. If Stevie made another album, it might sell, what? 800,000 copies? If that? She is an artist from another era; there is no way she will get today's kids, and both she and the record companies know it. We know it. The most we can hope is that she has a glut of music that she wants to release for fans; if she does, she'll have to release it independently. I pray that she will, but I'm not holding out hope. I think she will continue to tour, playing a setlist in her comfort zone, and then she'll retire. People like me will continue to go see her, and hold out hope that we will get to meet her some day. :o

Well like Mick said" She'll be doing this for donkeys years-lol". I think she will always perform. The performances may get very very few and far between as the years go on, but IMO, she will do it till the day shes physically unable to, even if its once a year for one song somewhere in the world.

Thing is, 800.000 is a lot of records. Having a gold record is a big success no matter who you are. If she took herself seriously as still being a songwriter and recording artist, she would figure out how to cut down on her recording costs, and just go into the studi oand record and release whatever she wants. She's got a fairly large built in fanbase who will buy anything she puts out, and there always seem to be at least a few teenage kids at any given time who get turned onto her for whatever reason.

No, she's not going to sell millions of albums anymore, but at this point in her career, there's no reaso nshe needs to, either. She's got nothing to prove to anyone, except to prove to her fans that she still gives a ****.

Well said! That is exactly how i feel. Yes, Stevie knows that she will no longer be turning out platinum records left and right, but if she let that stop her, she would not have done TISL or Say You Will with the Mac. It's not like she's lost any recognition within the last 2-4 years. With this Gold Dust Tour she's actually gaining recognition. As we all remember, it took 8 years for TOSOTM to go platinum, and that was released in 1989, when Stevie had just come of off doing Tango in the Night with the Mac. My feeling is maybe when TISL and/or Say You Will hit platinum status, which both will be doing very soon, maybe Stevie will realize that people are still buying her music, and she should release another album. Another good example, last October, Bella Donna hit 5X platinum, and yes, it took 14 years from when it hit 4X platinum, but it did, and that was obviously her very first solo album. So yes, I am optimistic that either Stevie and/or Fleetwood Mac will be releasing a new album within the next few years.

I totally agree. Problem is, the record companies don't. It's why the music business is so pathetic these days. Why we have Britneys, and Christinas, and Idols.

Yes, yes, yes! In fact, she could probably finance her own recording (although based on her recycling of old clothes for the recent Australia gigs, who knows?). But I think Stevie would have a hard time recording something on a smalltime scale, releasing it with no big record company PR machine behind her, and no 5-star publicity tour to back it up. I love her to death, but let's face it. She believes herself to be at a certain level of stardom and success. She's not going to step down and put out a small album "just for the fans." It's too bad - we'd eat it up.

i think Stevie will tour for as long as she still looks and sounds good, and sells a lot of tickets. It's in her blood. I could easily see her touring for another 10 years. I really think she likes the idea of the Vegas show tho, so we may only see her on the "road" for a couple of more turns. Maybe she's not writing any new songs, b/c she's finally writing her book, or something else. I think she'll be in her 70's before it's released tho. She'll do some more studio albums, tho, because she HAS to...it's like breathing for her. I can see another FM album/tour too. Sometimes (as Cher knows all too well), it can take years to actually retire. Stevie doesn't have anything to prove in record sales or ticket sales, but I doubt she'll want to "go out" being a washed-up has-been, either. She's been back at the top of her game lately, and I believe she can stay there for quite some time.

I totally agree. Problem is, the record companies don't.

No, her current record company doesn't. Others do. It's incredibly unfair to generalize that "the record companies" don't care about their artists and demand that they sell millions of albums. This may be true of the few major labels. (How many are there these days? Four? I've lost count of the mergers.) But today's music industry boasts **** tons of smaller and independent labels, a number of which I'm sure would be glad to have Stevie and would be perfectly happy if she sold 500.000 copies of an album (assuming she didn't spend $10 million recording it, of course). Or she could start her label! Why not! She did it before!

But I think Stevie would have a hard time recording something on a smalltime scale, releasing it with no big record company PR machine behind her, and no 5-star publicity tour to back it up. Well yes, that's exactly right. The problem isn't the record companies or anybody else - it's Stevie herself and her out-of-proportion ego. As much as she sometimes likes to claim that it's all about the music, it's very clearly not.

Also, sometimes peoples priorities change in life and Stevie has said clearly two or three times now she has no new album planned and she has not written a song in two years. Obviously she is doing other things. (no, not writing a book)

Exactly what I am saying, performing is in her blood, even if its once a year in BFEgypt, we will see her there for one song...she gave up everything to perform, marriage and kids, she almost died trying to do Solo and FM at the same time for goodness sake  .... and in her fifties, I doubt she is ready to just retire and hang it up and write a book. She could be the Liz Taylor of our generation, coming out somewhere in the world for a good cause, since that cause would benefit from her name being attached to it~just my opinion.Rock on Stevie, I will never lose my faith in you! As we all know Stevie is known for multi-tasking her life. Good example, after her Street Angel tour ended, in 1995 (as it says in her TISL art book) Stevie began working on her next project, "Trouble in Paradise ~or~ Shangri-La" with Christopher and Karen Johnston, after her inspirational talk over dinner with Tom Petty on April 24th 1995. She began writing that very night as she says. Then, two years later, in 1997, the Mac had their big reunion tour, The Dance, and it was a huge success. After completing the tour, instead of going back to work on her next album, Stevie decided to put that on hold AGAIN, and release Enchanted, and then doing yet another promotional tour. After that was over, Stevie was finally able to complete her next album, TISL, and release it in 2001. This whole process took a total of 7 years. So as we all have come to know about Stevie, she is a person who starts something, and then puts it off to finish later. IMO, it is very likely that after this Australian tour ends in late March of 2006, Stevie will take some deserved time off, and possibly in Sept. of 2006, (give or take a few months) she will begin working on a new album, either with FM or solo. It's not that Stevie doesn't want to write new songs, and release a new album, it's just that with this Gold Dust Tour, there is no time for her to sit down, and pour her heart out on paper. Eventually we will see a new album, but it will be on Stevie's terms. Again, Stevie never said that she will not be writing any new songs, or releasing albums anymore, she just said that she just does not have the time right now to write any new songs.

That's just ridiculous. She has plenty of time. A tour does not consume 24 hours of one's day, especially when you're not a member of the crew. What does Stevie have to do besides perform a short soundcheck, sing for two hours, and then hop on a plane?

And many many artists write most of their songs while on tour so that they can begin working on a new album and start recording soon after they're off the road.

Hi again everyone: I'm not sure what Stevie will do....I do hope she does record at least one more solo record but since I read that interview that she hasn't written anything in like 18 months (til she wrote about new orleans) thats a long time to me...its sad but its like she not interested in writing anymore really...I really hope thats not true but I do wonder....I wish she would 'open the valuets' to her music...because we true fans would buy it in a heart beat...like whatever happend to the 're-issues' of her solo lps? She could do what fmac did with fmac white lp and rumours and tusk....although I would love the orginial cd to have more 'rare' versions on it than the same old songs (versions) but that probably won't happen....like on the orginial cd they could put finished versions that were cut that are extendeds or alternate versions than the orginial and the 2 cd could be the more 'rare' outtakes or cut songs from the lps...and of course give of more rare pics and outtakes stevies had so many outtake pics I really, really wish we could see some of them...maybe an alternate lp cover pic? As a fan we sometimes are more creative than the people behind it all that are suppose to know what there doing.....It would be nice to have a 'live' cd released or various rare live songs package over the yrs and of course she could do dvds of all her videos that would be nice to have a real released version of these videos....but I just don't know 'if' we're ever gonna see any of that at all...which is very, very sad really because as a fan I want to see that stuff.....she did say in one of the Aust interviews that Fmac would tour in 07 so that could be her farewell tour so to speak and she could do some shows in Vegas as well since its close to her homes in AZ and Cal....I guess only time will tell won't it....but I'm gonna true and thin positive about all of this because I just don't want to think its all over with right now....

I also think Stevie had all the time she wanted to write songs. Songwriters (or writers in general) always write, they have to. If they don't it's usually because they can't. I have the impression she got a real block, and the fact that a traumatic event forced it sounds a good sign to me.

Well, this is also true. Yes, Stevie could easily write a song on the plane going to her next location while on a tour, or in her hotel room that night, or in the limo going to the venue, or wherever she is, but maybe she just doesn't have the inspiration at the moment on what the theme should be. Every album she has ever done has had a theme, but maybe for now, she just doesn't have an idea to go by. So, i guess you are all right in saying she has the time, but just is suffering from a case of writer's block at the moment. :o

Love? Angels? Stars? Stairs?

Stevie always starts out with an idea either before or after she writes songs for a new album, and she very rarely dives into a project not having anything to go by. Her songs on all her albums are all very broadly ranged, and vary greatly, but she always goes by something and works from there.

Guys, look around on Nicksfix a little -
I just learned that Stevie and Don were involved
in lobbying against the record companies, in a lawsuit in
California - they want the companies to shorten the length of
time required to sign your life away to them.
Because, among other things -
It turns out that (try not to faint from astonishment) -
The record companies have been under-reporting the amount of
money the records are making - and then keeping more money for
themselves, instead of paying the artists what they are owned.
Not sure if they were ripping Stevie off personally, but do the math.

there's a little more to this than meets the eye.
After reading the article I sort of received a "general impression"
that it's more like a general, unspoken resistance - kind of an
informal, unspoken "screw you" without really flat-out saying it.
Sort of a general, "I'll get around to another album as soon as I
feel motivated to, and right at this particular moment?
I don't feel particularly 'motivated.' So SUE me, sue Stevie NICKS!"
I'm not clear on whether Stevie was affected by this directly -
but how would you feel if you suddenly found out that your boss
had been ripping you and your friends off for decades,
and then came to you with a job for you to do?
Would you feel particulary motivated to work at that point?
Or would you maybe feel like taking a bit of a vacation,
and leaving your boss to swing in the wind for a while???

I understand what you mean. With you putting it that way, it now makes much more sense to me what is possibly going on with Stevie, and what is happening with her in the music business right now. Thanks for clearing the air Ghost Tracker! :)

But truly, it's us evil music downloaders who are stealing from the artists.

"Writers Block???" Thanks for the laugh!

I don't why it's so hard for you to believe. The woman said herself that she's written one song in the past eighteen months. She's either got writer's block, or she just doesn't give a **** about writing new material. I tend to think it's the latter, myself.

Sad to say but yet so true...Wonder how long before she starts to play the Six Flag theme parks?
I've said this before and it bears repeating .I truly hope she retires before it comes to that. The idea of hers that she has to be played on Top 40 radio alongside Ludicris and Ashlee Simpson before she can release another album of new material is a major disappointment and a bit delusional as well since it has been over 15 years since she actually did have a new song on Top 40 radio. It just leaves me to think she is not interested in doing anything creative musically anymore, and for someone that has been a fan since they were a kid and the Rumours era this is kind of depressing. Hopefully she will have the class to gracefully retire instead of interminable touring with the same old act to ever dwindling audiences and shabbier venues .I went to see her on this last tour but I don't think I want to witness that kind of decline in someone that has meant so much to me for so many years.

I must have missed the part where Stevie was seen living with Jimmy Iovine who now has become her personal butler to stay close to her and to watch her over.
The lady has a working brain, I'm sure she can manage her career (whatever it would be) with class.

Stevie and Lori have both said there are no plans for another solo album. Plus she had all last winter off before she decided to do Vegas in March.

She doesnt give a **** about writing new material anymore. People do not want to accept that anything can ever change for Stevie...she has always written, so she will continue to write but will she want to continue writing for albums forever? Stevie's priorities have changed, IMHO. (plus she has said flat out how she feels about a new album and that she has written no 'songs') The idea that she has writer's block again because she has not written a song is bizarre.....I can think of ten thousand other reasons why she has not written a song other than writer's block. Again, it all goes back to fans not believing that Stevie's priorities, wants, needs, desires, dreams, hopes for the future could ever change.

One of the words I agreed with in Trackers post from above was "sue".

Hmm, this is a somewhat depressing thread.

I think there will be one more big FM tour, maybe 07. Then there will be one last solo tour. I don't see Stevie letting the Gold Dust tour be her finale. There will be no more album, FM or solo.

Hopefully the final solo tour will be at smaller and classier venues. FM tour will of course be at basketball stadiums so they can get as much cash as possible.

Personally, i refuse to believe anything about new albums, tours, etc... until Stevie herself says it in a definate statement saying "I/FM will/will not be doing another new album, tour, or etc..."

Perhaps she's letting all of her ideas ferment so she can sit down with Lindsey next year and "write from the ground up."

Jeez, Stevie kicked ass in Dallas on the Gold Dust Tour and I think it was her best performance since 1983. Maybe since Bella Donna. For the most part, I don't really care if she records another album of new material. It would be nice but not necessary to prove she still has something to offer her fans. With the release of her new DVD from the Australia show, she could EASILY release a live album which she has yet to do. I would be very excited about that. She can go the route of recording a country album or do an album of covers or whatever. I DON'T CARE IF SHE WRITES ANOTHER SONG. I love watching her perform and to listen to her sing and therefore, if she tours until she's at least 60, I'll be very happy.

Seriously though, I'd love to see that happen (that is, the two of them working on songs together from the ground up... not the murder part. ;) ).

But, come what may, I'm just along for the ride. I thought Stevie and Fleetwood Mac were done for back in the early '90s, so everything since '97 has been gravy for me and I'm aware it can't go on forever. :)

Yes it would be fascinating to watch, I love backstages, to see how an artistic project takes form. Even if I think the Ledge would become like the Onu in a bad day.

Now is the time to bring out songs from the grave for solo tours...like think about it, angel, after the glitter fades, gold and braid, bella donna, blue lamp, talk to me, no spoken word, i can't wait, rooms on fire, alice, whole lotta trouble, two kinds of love, juliet, docklands, maybe love will change your mind, destiny, blue denim, garbo, rose garden, sleeping angel, twisted, everyday, planets of the universe, too far from texas, bombay sapphires, or an acoustic gypsy or running through the garden. Now look at this song selection. Even if she's got to keep the seats packed in, she can at least add 2 or 3.
